The best Shawarma sandwich in this area with no doubt. I ate shwarma in many restaurants in the middle east countries, in Windsor and in Dearborn. But no one came close to Tuhamas! The restaurant is not good looking or fancy, but if you are looking for a quality shawarma sandwich, then look no further. On the other hand the Humus is not the great and the falafel should be avoided.

Stopped in for a Chicken Schwerma after work, for 3.75 it is HUGE. Can't say it was the best I've ever had (I'm a bit picky) but it was really good. Great value quality ingredients. It's always good to explore a new spot on Warren...

This place has the best food, best prices and does not get the recognition it deserves. Eveyone who tries this place comes back and they have their own signature sandwiches (my favorite is the chicken burger). Highly recommend.

This place is a gem. We tried their lamb tongue, falafel, and chicken shawarma sandwiches and they were all exceptional! I am not sure about other items on the menu but, I've never had better tasting middle eastern sandwiches.

For weeks my friend Ali has been raving on this place, trying to get me to go for lunch and today I finally got the chance to go with him. He's been really talking it up, setting my expectations very high and I must say I was not disappointed. Based on Ali' recommendation, I ordered a Meat Shawarma sandwich and on my own I also ordered a Tawouk sandwich and a basket of fries. I sat down with this Meat Shawarma and bit into it and I was amazed. Ali told me to expect the best Meat Shawarma I'd ever eaten, but this sandwich went beyond this. It was the single best item of Middle Eastern food I've ever eaten, bar none. It didn't take too long to finish this sandwich, and I moved on to the Tawouk, wondering if it could live up to its predecessor. There's a certain something, a rare combination of pickle and chicken that some restaurants are trying to capture, and I've experienced many attempts that come close, but Tuhama's has found that perfect balance. All the flavors of the chicken, sauce, pickles and bread complement each other so well. Even the fries were excellent. I experienced a sort of foodie nirvana eating at this place and when I'm hankering for some good Middle Eastern food, I know where I'm going to go.

So just a heads up, DO NOT under estimate the small lady, with the scarf. SHE WILL lay the smackdown on you. Not complaining about her, she's actually pretty entertaining. She don't take anything from anyone and SHE WILL call you out on your BS! I've been coming here for years and I've learned a few things about Tuhamas. If you go there for lunch, 5 stars! Go there in the afternoon for dinner, 0 stars! The guy who wears the white paper cap during the lunch hours must be the owner or have links to the owner because when she's there, this place pumps out the best sandwiches around. The clowns that work in the afternoon have no clue what's going on. It's like day and night. Go there for lunch. Anything after 4pm you will not get the full Tuhamas experience. Get your sandwich on French bread. It will change your world.

Love the sandwiches here! Better than any other restaurant or Arab Bakery that serves pita wrapped sandwiches. I love that they give you more meat than the other places. I would recommend calling in your order first and it will be ready when you arrive, or be willing to wait about 15 to 20 mins for your order. My favorite recommendation is the Chicken Sharma! Reasonable prices. Oh, and I forgot...I just live across the street from here, so it's super easy for me to get to. :)

So it's a sandwich shop that has fast food prices yet quality food. It does not have seating for more than 10 people. That being said a lot of people called and were ordering cause the traffic of people coming and going wer about 15 in an hour..which is crazy for such a small place. The sandwich were about 5 to 7 dollars. All made fresh to order. Good flavor, great portions, and awesome prices.

Tried and true sandwich place. Certain times of day they are very busy and the wait can be a little long. Usually it's fast and fresh. The prices are very competitive for the area. Try the fries, they are good.

Delicious food that makes you feel like you traveled to Lebanon and got a little taste of food there. Coming from a lebanese background i must say the cooks at this place know what they are doing. The only problem with this place is the mess they always have. The place is too small and it seems like its always a mess every time i go. You cant sit down without hearing people yelling and shouting and hearing conversations in the back of your ear. The food tops up the place but the owner should expand the restaurant.

I tried this place because of Yelp. I found some good, not as good, and "I wish": The good - the people are super nice. I liked that it is basically just a lunch counter with different sandwiches. Sometimes I don't want a waitress, so this would be a good place to stop. The hummus was very good, better than Hamido. They give you a large container of pickled raddish, tomato and peppers. They gave me a side of garlic without protest. Not as good - I thought the falafel sandwich was not quite as good as I've had elsewhere. Not bad, but just not AS good. My husband said the same about the chicken shwarma. I wish the menu was a little larger selection wise. The only sandwich I could order was falafel because I don't eat meat. They don't have rice. "I wish" - they would give more pita. The great hummus was quite large, but we only got two pieces of pita. It wasn't enough. Also, with an open kitchen they need to make sure that they aren't storing stuff on the floor (like onions)...it looks icky. Also, I wish there was lentil soup. Overall it was good. If I was in the area and wanted a walkup counter, I would for sure return.

Basterma sandwiches are the best! Chicken sandwiches are PACKED to the max whenever I order them. Slightly dry, but still SO good! The lady at the front is sooooo sweet mashaAllah!

Best shawarma I've ever tasted. The perfect shawarma should have good pita and the right combination of chicken, garlic sauce and pickle in every bite. I found that here. The shawarma was large enough to save half for a second meal. Staff was polite even when busy. The only down side is it's not visually appealing. But if your foods that good, your not paying attention to the atmosphere.

Boy do I miss Michigan chicken shawarmas. The garlic sauce is very strong.. Almost too much, but if you're a big garlic sauce fan you'll dig it. Chicken was good but a tiny bit on the dry side. Overall it hit the spot and was very tasty, but there's room for improvement. +1 for awesome price!

I went to Dearborn to visit family and friends; and was craving a shawarma. I went to Tuhama's at the recommendation of one of my friends. I ordered a shawarma with chicken and was blown away by how delicious it was. Awesome food and great customer service there. It was my first time there, though the staff made me feel really comfortable and I loved how everyone there seemed to know each other, and even though I didn't know anyone, both the staff and customers treated me like family. I'll definitely be going back to this place either with said friend or if I'm just hungry. Thank you

Best beef shawarma in the nation. Chicken burger and sojook are always made fresh and on point. Do yourself a favor and try it, you will be hooked.

Thank you Yelpers! This is a great lunch place on Warren Avenue, easy to miss, but well worth the effort. We had the chicken shwarma and meat kafta sandwiches. Both were excellent. What really stood out interestingly enough was the pickle. It was clearly homemade and made the dish. I think my husband could have taken a bath in the garlic there it was so good. We don't get out to Dearborn as much as we would like, but it's worth the trip.

The Chicken Schwarma Sandwich here is the bomb! Too bad the decore here looks like it was the victim of an IED. But now Rodger and Big Al are gonna attack me for remarking on ambiance. But in their world, ambiance is just the thing (with the flashy lights) that takes you to hospital after a classic downriver bar night. So I'll just shut up and eat... And what might fine schwarma they have to eat at Tuhamas!

Oh Tuhamas, why did I doubt you in the first place. Came here with my friends for our monthly get together and our quest to find the best Middle Eastern in Dearborn. We had actually come here before, but elected to go elsewhere because we wanted wait service. Went to Al Ajami instead, and having been here, am upset that we made that choice. AMBIANCE- definite hole in the wall- you order your food and you grab a seat. Not too much seating (probably 15 people max), which explains why we saw so many people getting take out. They have a tv there that was playing a soccer match of some sort. Sorry, I don't get up for soccer. SERVICE- guy at the register took our order and seemed friendly enough. Since we were eating there, he said we could wait to pay until all of our food came out. Word. MENU- not as deep a menu as other Middle Eastern joints in Dearborn. They seem to focus more on sandwiches (which is what they are known for). They had a few combos, and appetizers, but not your typical 8 page menu. FOOD- I kept hearing that the chicken shwarma hear was THE BEST, so of course I had to check that out, along with a kafta sandwich. My friend rocked a falafel, and my two other friends got a chicken shwarma and a beef shwarma sandwich. I must say, their chicken shwarma was ON POINT. And I dare say it is the best I have had in Dearborn thus far. The kafta sandwich was ok, but not the best I've had. My friend enjoyed his falafel, but also preferred other places he had been. OVERALL- cheap, fast, and tasty- great combo for me. If you're looking to take someone out for a first date, don't come here (unless you're low on cash). Probably best for take out, but not a bad place if you want to grab a quick bite as well. CELEBRITY RATING- Sascha Baron Cohen

This place is known for its sandwiches and I went there after a Lebanese friend recommended it to me. Unfortunately, I'm gluten intolerant so I can't have pitas or bread. Instead, I ordered the shish kabob which was fantastic. It came with hummus, pickled turnip, and tomatoes. It would have come with pita as well but I asked them not to include one because it would just go to waste. The Arabic friend I went with ordered a hamburger which came with fries. We both enjoyed our food immensely. He said the meat in his hamburger was not like other hamburgers he had; it was more Arabic style. He said it was a good kind of different though. It was dingy but I thought made it very cozy and homey. All the customers seemed to know the owners and we were surrounded by Arabic conversation which is always a good thing when in an Arabic restaurant. I wish the menu was bigger and that they had rice and garlic sauce but considering how tiny the place is, I don't think it's very feasible. They were also lacking cups for water and I wasn't going to pay $2 for a bottle of water so that fact irritated me a bit.

I brought my mom with me so we could try a bunch of different things. We got the Meat Schawarma sandwich, which was absolutely fantastic. A huge portion and just the right amount of spice. The Sojouk was excellent, spicy hot, and a big portion. The Hummus was very smooth and quite garlicky, which I liked a lot. It was a bit much for my mom. And finally, the Kafta was something you'd want to have for a quick snack. Not heavy but filling anyway. Best of all, it was enough food for two meals for two people, and it only cost $17. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is, the tables and floor weren't what I'd call clean.

I have serious reservations about writing a review of this place. Recently we added a new member to our team at work, and he is a Lebanese Canadian. A few weeks back he went with us to our beloved Hamido and he confirmed that yes, we had found some of the best Lebanese food this side of the Middle East. When Moe came up to me last week to tell me that he found Chicken Shawarma that was even better than Hamido, my eyes opened up very wide. Today the lunch posse paid Tuhamas a visit. Inside a gritty storefront on Warren Ave on the easternmost edge of the Arabic district is a tiny restaurant that possibly seats 15 people. It reminds me of the Indian spots on Devon Street in Chicago that cater to an exclusively ethnic customer base, like my beloved Ghareeb Nawaz (Urdu: Food for the Poor). However, this place served up the best Chicken Shawarma sandwich I have ever tasted. Seriously. At $3.50, the sandwich was about 50% larger than the Hamido version. The meat was moist, tender and perfectly seasoned. Tuhamas cuts the meat thicker than Hamido, and combines it with Lebanese pickles and perhaps the only garlic sauce that beats Hamido in taste and freshness. The sauce was a bit heartier than the Hamido version, but what set it apart was a stronger lemony bite that made it extra savory. I also ordered a Falafel sandwich that ended up being eaten by my Daughter at dinner tonight. We also shared a hummus that was HUGE and tasty. My reservation in sharing this place with Yelpers is that it is totally undiscovered by the foodie scene. It is a Lebanese restaurant for Lebanese tastes. It even has a French Fry sandwich listed on the menu, which I have learned is a truly weird and authentically Lebanese dish. Think of this place as a Lebanese stationary taco truck and you might get the picture. Update: The Kafta sandwich is probably even better than the Chicken Shawarma, if that is possible. They grill the kabob to order with the freshest seasoned meat, and do not overcook it. These boys are Lebanese sandwich wizards. The are the best on Warren Avenue and that is really saying something, given the towering presence of Hamido.

PROS: This tiny shop makes the best subs in a 50 mile radius. And they are 100% halal! CONS: They are almost always busy and take a long time to prepare your order. It is also better to go in to order even if you are ordering to go because the lady who usually answers the phone hardly speaks English.

5 stars for the food and value. Like what several other posters have said, the chicken shawarma sandwich was damn good, but the kafta was better! So, why did I ding Tuhama a few stars when the food was so good? The lady taking the money and one of the dudes working made me uncomfortable by staring at me during my presence. Perhaps, they were admiring my good looks, but I doubt this was the case. They looked at me as if I were some shady character getting ready to hold the place up! As much as I'd like to go back for their unbelievable food, I'll probably just stick with Hamido. At least I always feel welcome whenever I stop by!

Best middle eastern sandwich shop in michigan. I highly recommend the chicken burger with spicy fries. The chicken shawarma with extra garlic and pickles are excellent. The meat shawarma with extra tahini and turnips are great.

Tip #1 : Always listen to Rodger I have been wanting to get over here but had no one to come with. I mentioned it to my dad yesterday and guess who shows up on my doorstep with it? My dad cracks me up. He says I made him have to try it, serves him right after making me truck out to Manchester yesterday. I talked of a few other places I wanted to try so maybe I will hit a jackpot and get more carry outs or lunch invites :). He got chicken schwarma and kafta sandwiches with a side of hummus to split between us. The portions were huge. A total bargain. I have to say I love that he is retired and has too much spare time on his hands these days. I will agree that the kafta was my fave, no surprise there though as I am a kafta fan. This was perfectly seasoned and meaty-licious (sorry but I cannot describe it otherwise). The schwarma was also extremely tasty though and I liked having some of each. Everything was perfectly cooked and so full of flavor, garlicky heaven. The hummus was very good in my opinion but I will be honest, I have yet to meet hummus I did not like. We will both be back, although he did joke that with my mom it would have to be carry out. She is a little atmosphere sensitive sometimes. I don't have that issue myself thank goodness.

After reading review after review of this 5-star shwarma oasis, i decided to finally venture out and try their legendary sandwiches. On my Tuhama quest i passed the place not once but twice...at which point i made a gigantic U-turn on Warren Ave (this is where my ghetto driving training kicks in) to park in the last available spot in front of the restaurant. Walking in, a small crowd of Tuhama patrons were eagerly waiting on their carry-out orders....pacing back in forth, watching the people behind the counter rolling, wrapping, and packaging the shwarmas, anxiously waiting to see if it was indeed THEIR order that was wrapped and ready to go. So far, a good sign! All this eagerness plus some consistent 5-star Yelp ratings, i was expecting to have a mind-blowing shwarmapalooza filled dinner! I placed my shwarma & kafta order at the counter, and after twenty five minutes of watching Al-Jazeera broadcasting a soccer game and the nightly news on the nearby TV, my order was FINALLY called....hallelujah! After another 25 minutes, i'm sitting at my kitchen table savoring each morsel of the very garlicky chicken shwarma. The garlic sauce danced a fine line between over the top/just enough. As for the lamb kafta, also great!!! Delicious, aromatic, and LOVED the fresh crunchy turnips and pickles. I usually take these out of my kafta sandwiches but these were fantastic, it added just enough tangy-ness and crunch to the sandwich! All in all, Tuhama's was "pretttttty pretttttty good!" -did you catch the Larry David reference? : P Just a couple side notes: 1.) You can dine at Tuhama's, but seating is limited. There are only 3 whole tables, which is why it's mostly a carry-out place. 2.) Using Starbuck's sizing chart, Tuhama's sandwich size would be classified as a 'Venti'. 3.) Waiting on the food can take a while, so i HIGHLY RECOMMEND calling in your order at least 20 minutes before you get there!

  • Christy F.

You place your order at the counter. You can carry out or dine in, but there is not much seating. I have only had the chicken schwarma, but I highly recommend it. The portions are huge. Nice fresh bread, marinated chicken, garlickly toum, good pickles. The prices cannot be beat! You might want to call your order in, as Tuhama's usually have quite a few people waiting on their carry out.

Love the chicken Shawrama, know the owner, great people, but it's a tad bit too far for me now. I hear they have won the best shawrma sauce or shawrma contest, which I have no doubt. They are amazingly delicious. and great in portion size. it fills you up. 2 thumbs up!!!

After reading all the great reviews for this place, I expected to be amazed by the food here. Yes, I was amazed...... that it did not live up to the hype. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma sandwich and a Fattoush salad. The sandwich was only ok. The only redeeming quality was the fact that it was packed with chicken...but tastewise, Golden Bakery has far better tasting chicken. The fattoush salad was abysmal. They used vinegar!!!!! Who uses white vinegar for Fattoush dressing?!? Fattoush is supposed to have a bright flavor which can only be achieved with fresh lemon juice and sumac. Vinegar is a cheap and mediocre substitute. A little background, I grew up in Dearborn, I've been eating Lebanese food for decades and Tuhama's does not live up to the hype here on Yelp.

Tongue and Brains are all good at Tuhamas, as in Lamb tongue sandwich and lamb brains sandwich. (Don't worry squeamish white-meat chicken eaters, read the other reviews...they apparently have great chicken shawarma) To deconstruct the very tasty lamb tongue sandwich: The bread - a cross between a baguette and a panini, hot pressed or grilled to crispy perfection Inside - tender, not very lamby, melt-in-your-mouth chunks of tongue meat swimming in garlic heaven, juicy turnip pickles along side the meat balance out the richness and creaminess of other ingredients with an added dimension. Also tasted lemon juice and black pepper. Just go and try it, your taste buds will thank you. Other stuff tried are also good (hummus is creamy smooth but not runny, falafel is one of the best!) Like Rodger, I am almost hesitant to write about this place for fear that Yelpers will descend upon in droves and crack the quality lid. (recent visits to Hamido has not been as good). P.S. a tiny little place, from the street side as you drive by it is a bit inconspicuous and not at all impressionable. Keep your eyes open.

Thanks, Yelp! Would not have noticed Tuhama's otherwise. The servings - plentiful. The chicken shawarma - so tender and flavorful. The pickles - were dripping with vinegar, like pickles should! This made me realize that my recent encounters with pickled turnips at some of the more touted restaurants down the road have been disappointingly dry. The hummus - creamy, garlicky, smooth (check, check, check) and pleasantly smoky (now that's a little different). The garlic sauce - best EVER! Full-flavored yet not overpowering. I tend to inhale this stuff, which can lead to intense stomachaches and other regrets. But just like the hummus, it's so smooth and palatable. I'd go so far as to call it medicinal! They gave us at least 8oz. I like mixing leftover garlic sauce with butter and spreading it over grilled fish. Even given my addiction to this stuff, I have plenty left for experimentation.

The decor in this place will have you feeling like youre eating in Guantanamo Bay! This is one of those hole in wall places that has great food! The lamb Shawarma on the French bread is great!

I ate a fantastic chicken schwarma sandwich and hummus side today ($9 total). There was a very tired and strung-out looking man named Corey who held things down in the bathroom for long periods of time, only occasionally responding to the owner-cook's loud cries of, "Corey! Corey!" by opening the door and peaking out, then running an errand and coming back, back to the baño. When Corey returned, having completed the task, the owner made him a sandwich. Corey accepted it gladly, sat a few seats down the counter from me, put salt on the meat (for reasons I can't begin to understand), and when he was finished, walked behind the serving counter, removed a piece of cardboard from the back of the building, produced a piece of chalk from his worn jeans, began writing on the corrugated paper what I've decided to imagine was: "Anything helps. God Bless."

  • Al A.

OK, count me in as one of the Tuhamas fans! Working in Dearborn every day, you learn to appreciate the finer aspects of middle eastern cuisine, and Tuhamas definitely delivers. I would like to eventually work my way through the entire menu, but I have a real hard time giving up my chicken shwarma - it's become a "gotta have it at least once a week" addiction. Others in my dining party have adventurously gotten the tongue, and said it was very tasty. Everything made fresh in the tiny kitchen, and very small for dining in but perfect for takeout! I'm still a Hamido's fan, but for quick and easy Tuhama's is it!
