So I don't know if I should edit with a PS, or a prologue. I'm choosing the latter. Went there tonight, and it was busy as usual. Sat in one of the very very tight carhop drive in things. Ordered my stuff, and then waited for the rollerskating carhop to give me my stuffs. Was given my food, and experienced awkwardness as the carhop waited and explained that she accepts tips... which really means she 'expects' tips. I had NO idea that this was the case, and felt very dumb for only having three quarters, and paying with my credit card. She also told us that she'd check up on us, and get our trash. Eat the fries first, because... that's the best. Then I open my sandwich package. I asked for a "number 9 with no cheese". I got a "number 4" (or something). It had cheese, mayo and NO bacon. I love bacon. I press the button, a different carhop comes and takes my sandwich. I tell her my order again, "number 9 with no cheese". She comes back with the sandwich, and then our main carhop comes and asks us how everything is, as I unwrap my sandwich. (Mind you my eating partner had long finished his meal by then... which left me rather unhappy, and envious). I see that there is gross american cheese on my sandwich, again! I inform the carhop, but tell her I'm too hungry to wait for them to fix my order. It was kind of ridiculous. I'd give it one star based on this past visit, but the wheat bun was really good. This place has been open for the past week or so, but it's been PACKED. i didn't care to deal with the absurdly long line to get fast food. Which is what it is... fast food. It's nothing too spectacular. I went this morning around 7am and it wasn't busy. My cousin ordered lunch, and my mom and I got breakfast. That's the reason this place gets an extra star past "It's A-OK". I'm a big fan of places that let me eat breakfast and/or lunch anytime I want. I ordered a number 13, I think. Which was like egg, on toast with bacon. It was enormous. I think they used up half a package of bacon for my sandwich. I thought I was going to die of a heart attack. I'm not a huge fan of the ice that they use in beverages, but it didn't seem to melt as quickly into my pop like other fast food places. I'm hoping that this place's popularity will die down soon, so I can go try other things on the menu without the wait of a deep dish pizza from Chicago traveling by pigeon.

Damn, I was hoping to be first to review, y'all beat me to it!! Waited about 45 minutes for the drive thru here tonight! The place is still packed solid with people but it is organized as the cars file in. They stage you for the drive thru and for parking in the bays so it's not too crazy. Just be prepared to wait if you are going in the afternoon or evenings any time soon. The food: it' s OK. The burgers with everything on them is pretty tasty (mayo, ketchup, mustard). They're not very easy to eat while driving b/c they are actually loaded with stuff unlike a McD's burger. The fries looked greasy but I was told by my 16-year old nephew they were good. The tater tots were pretty good. My wife tried the "ched 'r' bites". I thought these tasted OK but were smaller than I expected and kind of a ripoff price wise at $2.89. Wife also tried the Butterfinger Sonic Blast which is vanilla ice cream blended w/ some Butterfinger shavings, topped with whip cream and some more shavings. This was pretty good! Sonic is good and a nice change from some of the other fast food joints. I won't be waiting in line that long again for it but it is worth a visit again every now and then.

This place is packed most of the time, but it kind of gives off that old time drive-in diner feel, which is nice. For how many people there was, our order came pretty quick. The food is the worst part. After all these years of waiting, the food is sub-par at best. Hamburger is dry. Fries are decent. I'll have to go again to try breakfast sometime.

  • Pasha A.

I drive by this place everyday to and from work and have noticed a retarded line every time I pass so I wanted to check it out. I am a bit of a burger aficionado and rate in-n-out, red coat and the Counter as my favorite. The burger was mediocre at best. The patty was very dry and tasteless. The fries were embarrassing, they tasted like frozen potatoes. The prices were very comparable to MacDonalds. Maybe worth a taste when the line dies down, but I would never recommend Sonic.

Granted, this was lunch on a Friday- but a group of coworkers and I stopped by on our lunch hour and got out of the car to eat on the patio. After my coworker ordered and sat down I waited for three minutes to place my order while the red light flashed. Finally, I was able to ask for a Chipotle breakfast burrito with tots and a diet coke with chocolate flavoring. "A number 11?" the voice asked. "Sure," I replied. Silence. A little bit later the voice comes back on: "ok, that was a number four with fries and a cherry coke?" "No... A burrito with tots and a chococate coke." "So you want a number 11?" "Yes," I respond. "What kind of burrito do you want?" "a chipotle one. The new one." "Uh... Let me see..." After another minute of silence the voice comes on again... "Can you press the button again?" I did. My coworker gets her food a second later and asks the bellhop if she can help us. By now there are seven people behind me after two had left in disgust. She presses the button and the flashing begins. Finally, a voice comes on and asks for my name and order. I changed my name to make it easier. And changed my order to the easiest it could be. A number 9- grilled chicken with tots and a coke. How was the food? Ok. I've had better chicken sandwiches from everywhere I've been. And it wasn't what I wanted- I had to change my order to fit THEIR needs, not mine. I've been to Sonics before so I'll go to the company again. But not this location. If I could give this experience 0 stars- I would.

The food is average at best. I do not see the fsination with having to tip here as it is just as easy to go through the drive through. I did not like the food at all. Very greasy.

  • Rebecca D.

Can people truly get your order wrong four times and still expect a tip? Answer helll no. Service crap. Food meteocre. Order taking epic fail.

  • Kristopher S.

Went here the other day and had a chicken sandwich that was average at best...I think the White Lake Sonic has MUCH better food. My biggest issue with the sandwich really was with the Bun, which was rather stale. Service was fast and friendly, and the Ice Cream is the best Soft Serve you will get - ANYWHERE. No soft serve is as creamy and delicious...I dare you to prove me wrong!!

Great to see Sonic starting to pop up here in SE Michigan. I grew up with Sonic in Oklahoma City (their headquarters), where the Sonics outnumber the McDonalds and Burger Kings two to one. This Sonic, in Commerce Township, is very nice. It's a bit on the small side (can you tell - I'm a Sonic expert!) compared with other Sonic Drive-ins. Just a drive-thru and maybe 25 car stalls for car service. I've only been to one Sonic (downtown Oklahoma City) that has indoor seating. This location has not been open more than a month or two (as of today, 9-3-09) and it seems to be very popular given that access to the Sonic is "staged" in a big parking lot behind the Drive-in. No easy pull-in and order yet; however, I've never waited in line more than 5 minutes....so, don't let the potential delay keep you away. The food is typical Sonic. Good, basic, affordable food....love the burgers! Coney dogs are good too. Giant menu! Make sure and hit Happy Hour between 2 and 4 in the afternoon for half price drinks. Even though the place is new, the staff at this location seems to be very attentive and well trained. Great place to go on a beautiful Michigan summer day.

I will admit the idea is somewhat cool but as far as the food itself it leaves a lot to be desired. I realise it is fast food but except for a few things they are sub par even for fast food. When they first opened they were extremely busy but since then has died down since people got over the hype and realised it wasn't that good.

  • Alan S.

I was really excited when I saw this Sonic was being built because there really is nothing around there except a McDonalds about a mile south. I think their food is terrible. Their burgers are always dry. They use diced onions that always fall out of the burger. And they always put the lettuce and onion on the bottom of the burger and it always falls out. The fries are always soggy. I'd rather drive the extra mile to McDonalds.

  • Mark D.

I tried this place not to long ago hoping for a great burger and cool atmosphere of the drive in. I was very disappointed in the food qualtiy, to me the burger was sub par at best.

Let me start off with, Sonic has really good food. Now that, that is out of the way let me start off with how bad this experience was. So I went here when they had these coney dogs for only $1. $1? What a great deal, I know.. So when I went through the drive thru and told the person that I wanted the $1 coney dogs, she told me that they are not this. I told her about the deal and she said that her flyer said that they were not $1. So I told her to charge me for it and I would talk with a manager at the window. After waiting 20 minutes, I finally got the manager to fix the price. Note to self, Just get the foot long coney dogs, not the small ones.

  • Darryl J.

This is the worse fast food restaurant I've ever visited. One would think that ordering a few burgers and fries would be uneventful yet this Sonic location eliminates the mundane. The staff is generally poorly trained (problems operating the register is constant) and appear to never know when a promotion is going on. I've had to show my phone numerous times on order to prove that the promotion I mentioned during my ordering was legitimate. Then the staff doesn't seem to know how to charge the correct price for the promotion. Then it takes forever to get your order no matter how many cars are in line. How this location stays in business is beyond me and the franchise owner appears to not care as long as he/she is making money.

  • Greg C.

I haven't been here in over a year because the quality was poor when it first opened and they were always screwing the orders up. It got to the point where I sent in a complaint to their corporate offices and spoke to a customer service agent. Against my better judgement, I stopped in here again today to give them another chance. I can report that nothing has changed - they were out of onion rings when I ordered at the drive thru and then came out while I was waiting for the order, that they were out of lettuce for the burger and would that be ok? Well, no...I can see that nothing has changed here so that's not ok. I cancelled the order and drove away. My suggestion to you - avoid this place like the plague...

  • Saagar U.

Just got a large oreo chocolate shake from the drive thru and it was a pain to consume. Was not given any tissues, which was a problem since the cup was leaking. Also was not given a spoon and the only thing I had to consume the extremely thick shake was a straw with a 6mm diameter. This was specially a problem since there were a lot of cookie pieces that were a lot wider and we're impossible to get to, and others that would get in and block the extremely narrow straw making consuming the shake more pain than it was worth. The little bit that I managed to drink didn't taste great either.

Bit into a burger which had a chunk of tinfoil and hair in it. Very disgusting. I doubt I'll go back to any Sonic, and definitely not this one.

Sonic is one of my guilty pleasures. My husband will not go anymore because of how much the chain has gone downhill in terms of service. I can overlook a broken speaker once and a while to get my fix, but today was the last straw. I pulled in at NOON and there were only a couple cars in the drive thru. That should have been clue number 1. The stalls I normally pull into all had signs that I assumed said the speaker was broken. I pulled into a stall on the other side that looked open. There were empty beer cans all over the parking spot next to me. When I hit the red button, the girl told me the stalls were closed but I could go through the drive thru. Pull up to the speaker to order and there is a big sign saying they could not serve anything containing ice cream. Well, okay. And the computer screen that shows your order still has not been fixed. I'm sorry, Sonic, but I can't do this anymore. It's turned into a major dump and I really need to give my money to a company who takes pride in their product. Seeing all the other 1 star reviews, I see that I am not in the minority.

This Sonic has to be one of the slowest drive thru restaurants I have ever been to. It took over 30 minutes cars where back out to the street. This place is always understaffed

Did takeout here today, I went here in order to try out their new boneless wings for a blog post. Wings were good, I preferred the Asian wings to the barbecue style. I also got the pickle rings and the onion rings - the fried pickles were not to my liking but the onion rings were fantastic. Drive-through took me about 7-10 minutes because they said they were making the wings fresh, was a little long but oh well. Overall I'd go back to this location.

F this place. I went to go get my office Sonic Blasts and ice cream sundaes but they said there blast machine is broken which is not cool but whatever I got over it. What baffles me is the idiot employees said they can make milkshakes but can't sell me sundaes????? How can you make a milkshake but not pour ice cream into a dish. Am I missing something. Screw this place and their poor service.

The only thing they have worth eating is that DAM ultimate Burrito and the one dam time I thought to myself I'm going to drive all the way to sonic for that very DAM burrito "hey WTFN it's 8am and the web says they open at 6am". When I get there they were closed or so I thought, all the the lights were off including the open sign so I had to settle for the Tim Hortons next store and as I left that shit hole I see a car full of fucks getting their food at the window. Thous little fuckers were in there with the lights off trying to make it look like they were closed so they didn't have to do anything WTF!! I guess you get what you pay for when you pay a bunch of high school kids $8 an hour and now that I think about it I may have done the same thing. I WANT MY DAM BURRITO!!!!

I like sonic burger. I actually eat their hotdogs more than anything. I normally get through the drive thru quick enough and the workers always seem friendly. I try not to eat fast food too much but when I do indulge, I'll come here.

Forget the food and stick to the drinks. I have been known to drive an extra 10 miles if in the area of a Sonic, just for a Cherry Limeaide. There aren't enough Sonic's in the Detroit area and NONE in Washtenaw county. Please someone franchise out this way.

Read the rest of the reviews and that will sum up my experience.. This had to be the most disgusting sonic I have ever visited.. Took forever for our food and when we got it, it was so nasty, we took one bit of our food and spit it out, then asked for a refund.

What idiots! I ordered 5 chicken fingers, and they gave me 3. Then they forgot my shake. Then they didn't give me dipping sauce. They don't have enough workers. I won't come back to this location again!!!!!!

This Sonic took an extremely long time to order. I was with a party of 5 on the patio and after I ordered, it took over 5 minutes until she was ready for another order. I would have left if I hadn't already paid. She confused my friend's order 3 or 4 times, plus couldn't get her name correct and didn't bother changing after reminded of the actual name several times. The only redeeming quality of this location is that the food is as good as any other Sonic

I usually avoid fast food places, and haven't had the slightest inclination to try out Sonic. BUT, I was with my 15 year old sister the other day, and she hearts Sonic and told me that I simply MUST try the Lemon-Berry Slush. Being the open-minded person that I am, I said, "sure, why the hell not." Or something to that effect. We get there, and it wasn't crowded at all! Had there been a line, I would have been like, "fuck it, we're not going here." I guess the stars were aligned, though, and lucky me, because that Lemon-Berry Slush was so so good that I find myself daydreaming about it! When I took my first sip, I thought, "meh, nothing special. I can just get this at 711." However, when I took my NEXT sip, I got a taste of the lemon part of the slush (they put an actual lemon cut up into quarters in the cup!), along with actual pieces of strawberry! I dunno if it was because it was kind of warm out, or that I ran 11 miles that morning and needed some sugar, but that slush was so good, that I wanted to marry it: "Lemon Berry Slush...you...you complete me...will you be my partner in crime, my boo, my HUSBAND? " HA! As for the rest of the menu, I can't say anything about it--I didn't have anything else besides the slush. Also, I thought it was kind of neat that the employees brought your food out to you on roller skates.

This location leaves a lot to be desired. Being a regular traveler to the great American south, I frequent what I consider to be the REAL Sonics. The southgate location was the first one i tried up here in MI and it wasn't as good as down south...but nothing is. The Commerce location is the worst Sonic I've ever been to. The line is ridiculous most of the time and they've got some real interesting characters hanging around out there. For instance, the two guys monitoring the line and letting people through had this girl with them wearing seriously next to nothing. Her mouth was so foul and loud that I rolled up the window and gave them a dirty look. She was probably the trashiest person I've ever seen in the Novi area and she spoke in that "urban" broken english. So already I'm not liking the atmosphere at this one. I finally get to the menu to order and the girl taking my order was really friendly, as I've come to expect in dealing with sonic of the south. I wanted a toaster burger combo with a route 44 cherry limeaid. Toaster is broken and they're out of route 44 cups.. UGH!! I order a regular burger instead and a large cherry limeaid, the combo. The fries were seriously bad and the burger, while alright, was not what you get in Tennessee. Limeaid was awesome, you really can't mess that up though. So overall, I think the people around here who have never had sonic but have watched the commercials for 5 years are probably like, "WTF is all the fuss about? This place isn't even that great." Agreed, but don't write of Sonic completely until you've tried it south of the mason-dixon. All this being said, I'm still a sucker for cherry limeaid and will continue going for them alone.
