The food ranges from fine to good, but not as good as the huge crowds would suggest. The restaurant is pretty noisy, and it's almost impossible to get in there without a wait, sometimes quite long, even during the week in winter. There really aren't a lot of good restaurants right around here, but I find it hard to wait that long for food that's just meh. Things I like: The gluten-free menu (just ask your waitperson), and the service, which has almost always been good.

As usual, the staff was pleasant and accommodating beyond our expectations. Although the kitchen was a little behind on timing it was well worth the wait.

I grew up in Clarkston. It was my mom's choice of places to go for her birthday dinner. she and my dad had been wanting to try it since it opened but the wait was always too long.I made reservations 2-3 days in advance and was happy they took them. We only waited maybe 10 minutes when we got there for a table. We enjoyed the calamari appetizer (the lemon one). My mom really enjoyed her fish tacos and said she would definitely get them again. my dad raved about his perch dish, my fiance enjoyed his fish and chips but wished he had ordered the perch after listening to my dad go on and on about it. LOL.. I enjoyed my stuffed flounder but most of all LOVED the sweet potato mash that I substituted for the potatoes that were supposed to come with my dish. Amazing! The service was really good as well. I would definitely go back!

Kruse's Deer Lake Inn does not disappoint. Currently enjoying Seafood of the Angels which is a special menu item - today being Mother's Day. Bread is a must along with Martha's Vineyard Salad. Service staff is helpful and quick, anticipate our needs. Love this restaurant.

Dined at Deer Lake Inn in the past with great success. Unfortunately, tonight was not up to par. Excellent server, delicious cocktails, tender calamari, tasty crab cakes, everything wonderful until the entree. Medium rare filet arrived well done. The very apologetic server took them back. After my three companions had finished their meals, my redone filets arrived ultra rare with ice cold center. What a disappointment. Won't be returning soon.

I visited Kruse's Deer Lake Inn two times during my trip back home to Michigan. There was a wait both times, but they do take reservations and the hostesses even offered us a free appetizer for having to wait so long the second time. Score! There is not much space in the waiting area, which was difficult for my handicapped grandfather. Lucky for us, someone offered him the only chair, and on our second visit there was room on the patio for us to wait. I think they need to work on this though. We were seated in the front room both times. I found the front room to be loud, small and crowded. During the first visit, I was seated directly under the AC and was freeeeezing! The ambiance could definitely use some work. We had great service both times. The servers were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They bring a loaf of bread to the table, which is so delicious that it's tough not to eat the whole thing on your own. No worries though, they will bring plenty more. We tried both calamari appetizers and were pleased with them. I had a seasonal salmon special, which was really good. I loved the cucumber bean salad that was served with it as well. On my second visit I ordered the ranch twin filets (also seasonal special) and it was a little overcooked. Right after the food runner set it down, the server came right over to see if it was cooked properly. Before I could even say anything she was offering to have them cook another. I insisted it wasn't necessary and enjoyed it anyway. Everyone at the table was impressed with the food and service, which is why we went back a second time in one week. I will definitely be eating there again when I'm in town next time.

My wife and I love this place. The Charley's Chowder is my favorite soup. The bread is amazing as we all know. It's close to home for me. Love the seasonal Michigan menu. Join the frequent diner club there's a small fee but you get 10 percent off every check as well as a free entree on your birthday and anniversary. Pays for itself and good at all sister restaurants .

The outing to Kruse's Deer Lake Inn was an abnormal splurge for the BF and I. It was closeby and we wanted to try someplace new. You can walk-in to eat, but they also take reservations. We walked in and waited about 30 minutes, the most I will bear to wait anywhere. One annoying thing about busy restaurants here in cold country is trying not be in everyone's way while standing in uncomfortable, crowded, drafty spots by the hostess/door waiting for a table to open up because it's too cold to stand outside. You will run into that here. DLI looks like it's a lot bigger from the outside than it actually is. When it's full it's LOUD, but less loud than the Clarkston Union. I would describe the interior design as going for an upscale industrial hunting lodge look. There are metal elements of piping, tile and wood paired with real and metal deer heads. Nothing too basic or fancy. We finally got seated by a high top near the bar. They have a mix of those with booth and tables. I saw a # of child seats but no kids that Thursday night in December. There was no riff-raff in sight either. We order ordered a mix of drinks: draft beer, red and white wine, and a couple of different cocktails. Everything was decent, but the mixed drinks are pretty heavy on the ice. Should've ordered my Scotch neat with the Coke on the side. Anyway, out comes a piping hot large bread loaf in a paper bag with packets of butter during our first round. The bread was pretty good, but wished they paired it with flavored olive dipping oil. Appetizers: BF got the flash-fried calamari and I got the Chop House crab cakes with lemon mustard aioli. Both were good. My crabcakes had nice chunks of crab in them. Mains: I got the Maryland Chicken (baked and stuffed with shrimp and crab topped with lobster cream sauce and served with rice pilaf). I would get this again. The chicken was moist and flavorful. I added a small 306 salad for about $3 (blackened chicken, garden greens, bacon, egg and creamy garlic dressing). I liked it very much, although the cherry tomatoes in it were a bit bitter. BF got the large grilled 22 oz. bone-in ribeye with fresh vegetables and cheddar hash potatoes. The ribeye was cooked right/rare as he ordered it. It had a nice char to it and I did see him take the salt shaker to it a few times. He did not eat his veggies (a mix of grilled, kinda mushy looking zucchini and such). I tasted them and they were bland. He prefers baked or mashed potatoes and didn't touch the ones that came with the meal. I ate them as leftovers and liked them. He said he enjoyed his steak well enough. All the food came out in timely succession. Dessert: Nyet. We were too full. Service: Was nice enough and efficient. About 4 different people checked in with us at different times to make sure all was good. We were there over an hour and a half. Weird note: The bathroom has a large Listerine pump dispenser with small paper cups. Always very nice to have that available, but the big plastic jug looks straight out of Costco. I've been to places where they put it into a ceramic or glass-type dispenser. Looks a bit nicer. Bill: Just under $112 before tip which means the soonest I will return will probably be during a more low-cost lunch.

This is our favorite date night spot and our favorite takeout pizza. Excellent food!!! The service is adequate and the prices are reasonable. What more can you ask for.

So disappointed tonight. Waited 15 minutes before even being acknowledged. The waitress was good but I got the feeling she was thrown in at the last minute. The apps were cold and the shrimp and lobster linguini special was missing the shrimp and lobster. I will add that the manager was sympathetic to the situation however this should not happen with this caliber a restaurant.

Enjoyed the decor, the bar area feels like a neighborhood dive, but like... better. Pretty chill and inviting. Food was mediocre but service was good.

Had dinner here on a Sat night, my husband and I were seated right away even though we didn't have a reservation. We had Charley's chowder, blackened white fish, shrimp and lobster fettucini and cream puff dessert. Food was great, I think portions could use a tiny boost though. And the service is amazing, our server was very attentive and we were not of need of anything throughtout the dinner. And yes their bread is amazing and they were sure to check if we needed more bread a couple of times during the meal, so we did end up with a yummy loaf to go. Will definitely return again!

Went for lunch today and the service was amazing, not crowded at all, and the lobster pot pie was so yummy! First time customer and plan to be a regular.

When we first heard that they were opening a "Kruse & Meur" in Clarkston, we were so excited! We have been going to Kruse and Muer at the Village of Rochester Hills since before it was the "village of Rochester Hills" mall! If it wasn't called "Kruse's Deer Lake Inn, I would never have thought it was affiliated with the same company. The food is not up to their old standards, although I don't know if any of their restaurants are up to their "old" standards. They all seen to be going downhill, even though their prices keep going UP! The first time I was there, I ordered the Salmon and asked for steamed broccoli instead of the rice. The salmon was a bit dry and the broccoli tasted like it was frozen. The second time I went, I ordered a pasta dish and it was ok, but very oily. The only thing that is worth ordering is their pizza. If I go there again, it will be because someone else wants to go and I'm not paying the bill. Otherwise, for the price, I'd rather go to the Clarkston Union where the quality of their food is excellent and very consistent!

Yum! If you like the other Kruse and Muer restaurants, you will love it here too. The food is excellent.

Not to impressed, food was good, service was so-so- salad, 2 crab cakes and a bowl of french onion does not justify $38!!

Service Was great . Other reviews were right about the acoustics and the size. We got there early (4ish) and got right in with a party of 6. But by the time we left there was a wait already. The service was great and the food was really good. Mostly seafood dishes on the menu with a steak, pizza and burger thrown in. No one in our party had a negative thing to say. I had the seafood tortellini and it was very good ,the only thing I could pick it apart for would be that the sauce could have been thicker. the stuffed mushrooms were awesome . the saffron cream sauce that is on those as well as a few other dish is scrumdiddlyumptious. two at our table were using their bread to get every last bit off their plates.

This place is so great and I'm so happy they opened yet another wonderful restaurant in Clarkston. They have a wide variety of delicious food on their main menu plus additional rotating specials every week. Went their last week and they start you off with some really good complimentary bread. Definitely a Kruse signature! Pics ordered the Michigan Berry salad and had grilled chicken added to it. Serve size was just right - not to big not too small - and the salad was very very tasty. The cheese complimented it just perfectly as well (not sure what they did to it but very unique and good). My friend ordered the chicken tortellini which I tried and was to die for. I have ordered carryout from there as they have a whole side section just for carryout orders (very convenient) but never actually went inside until his passed week. Awesome interior and outdoor seating is beautiful too. They have a very friendly and attentive wait staff who constantly came to check on us. Also, their fish tacos are the best and they have amazing pizza as well. We love to get carryout pizza and do their $15 dinner deal that gets you a large pizza with 2 or 3 toppings (can't remember exactly which), bread and a salad. Definitely a deal and perfect for the family!

Wife and I went for dinner on a Thursday evening, got there at 5:15 and was seated immediately. Limited menu (I like it because I know everything will be fresh) with excellent choices for salad, beef, chicken and fish. We started with the soup, mushroom soup was excellent, onion soup was very salty. Chicken sandwich was very tasty as was my large salad. Wife had a drink called the "Painkiller" which was just ok and I ordered a large Two Hearted Ale, the only craft beer on the menu (but the highest rated American IPA!). However, the glass came to me half full because they just ran out of it and didn't have another keg. On the bright side, the half glass of beer was on the house. Server was great - very knowledgeable and we never wanted for anything. The bussers and management stopped by often to remove unwanted dishes and ensure we were happy. Wish they had a bigger Craft Beer selection. We will be returning soon.
