Yum. Our first visit to Chelsea Alehouse. Took off one star only because the place had too many kids. I had a Reuben substituted with turkey so I could enjoy the sauerkraut for A2. Spot on for a Reuben. The taste of the turkey combined with sauerkraut and thousand island was perfectly matched on the marbled bread. Hubby had pulled pork on pretzel roll. He said the sandwich was really good. He wished the sandwich had just a little more cole slaw for an added crunch but said the BBQ sauce and pork was excellent and he would order again. Side of chips were really good and I are both of our pickles as hubby doesn't like any pickle. Pickles tasted like the old Zingerman's pickle. We sampled the rye Porter and the brown. We went with the Brown which was a great choice for a session beer. Our service was good and the wait time acceptable. We visited early Saturday evening and the place had many children running around with some I attentive parents. Not the fault of the Alehouse but a note for future patrons.

I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of this place and it has not disappointed! At my last visit, I got a sampler and was extremely pleased with all of the beer but especially the bitter & coffee stout. The bitter was about as perfectly to style as I've had (it is one of my favorite styles) and I always love me a good coffee stout. The food choices have dramatically improved as well. I had the hot & spicy sandwich which was indeed spicy & very good. My favorite snack were the Dexter Bakery pretzels and cheese--YUM. Meant to only have one; had three. The atmosphere is also lovely. I feel at home whenever I am there and always get good service. I can't wait to sit outside once the weather warms up (which may not be for months yet, knowing Michigan) :)

Beer nothing exceptional. Prices high. Better beers on tap better prices and better atmosphere at the Jets in front lot. Really.

Suprised to see this kind of bar open up in little old Chelsea, having seen the slow and limited evolution of the restaurant/bar options while growing up here. Met up with a friend for drinks on my last pilgrimage to Michigan and was pleasantly surprised by the Haywagon Red since they have been open only a year. Nice view of the brew operations from the bar. Pretzels from the Dexter bakery were good as expected. Glad to see a rather large crowd in there.

Fun place to sample special brews and eat pretzels and appe-teasers. Not a good place for a business meeting or some such. Has a corner with toys for kids. Seating is in a big open hall area. Very hard to talk or be heard in here. The baristas and barmen are friendly and fun. Love to chat and share their passion for great beer. BONUS: offer crafty beer mugs made of glazed pottery for sale. There's a whole wall of them to choose from! Make sure to visit soon!

Great beers, atmosphere, service, and food! Growing up in Chelsea this is such a great addition to our little town. It's always our first stop when we come home to visit family (usually to fill our growler). The owner is so nice and knowledgable. We even had a keg of their beer at our wedding! Definitely recommend this spot.

Wanted to love this place but it came up short. Full disclosure that I'm not a beer drinker so take it with a grain of salt. They only had one type of wine which was way too sweet. The service was fine but not great. My friend's turkey bacon pesto sandwich though was incredible. My soup was "enh."

I was really looking forward to having lunch at the Alehouse today, I've had a couple good experiences and was looking forward to a good beer and sandwich. Instead, I had terrible service and a truly sad sandwich. I ordered the turkey avocado sandwich but was brought a wrap. The waitress, Isabella, noticed the mistake at the table and just paused until I said I suppose it's fine so she set it down. Well, I decided I really wanted the sandwich I ordered on marble rye (how it was supposed to come). What I got back was clearly simply unrolled from the first wrap, which was one piece of crumbled turkey. a slice of cheese, and a handful of lettuce. The avocado so had been completely wiped off and the cooks didn't bother to replace it. When the waitress came back again it was obvious I was not pleased. I had taken one bite and just ate the chips. The person I was with told her the sandwich sucked. Instead of fixing the problem she picked up the plate said "ok" and walked away! To add insult to injury, I stood up to use the restroom and could here the kitchen staff talking about my sandwich and how I shouldn't have been disappointed because it came from the wrap! They gave us 10% off just my sandwich (89 cents off of a sandwich I took one bite of!) the sandwich would have been good if it was prepared properly or with any sort of care but I was extremely disappointed with how the Alehouse employees handled this. Terrible experience that makes me never want to come back.

Fun place, large outdoor area. Beer was good but not great reason for 4 not 5 stars. Staff was friendly worth checking out if your in the area

Love the cheese and meat plate. Great selection of sandwiches. Large open space for gatherings. Darts, pool table and a couple arcade games. Not a place for kids but I have seen ppl bring their kids in. I am a fan for sure. Scotch ale with meat and cheese. Join the mug club for $100, lifetime membership. You'll get special pricing and special runs. Hot soups available too.

Very nice place and kid friendly. Good beer and solid food. Had the pulled pork and it was great. Rest of family enjoyed their food as we'll. Definitely would come back.

Hopefully my review is a reflection of the newness of Chelsea Alehouse and I'll eventually be able to upgrade. Chelsea has been missing something. Beer. Enter Chelsea Alehouse. Tucked between plazas in a fairly large space with huge windows, polished concrete floors and high ceilings, it definitely looks the part. Unfortunately, it doesn't measure up. The beer needs some work: the brown is bland, almost diluted, and the hop profile of the IPA is off - the gooseberry flavor needs to be toned down. The sour isn't drinkable. A beer place should have solid recipes prior to opening. This reminded me of a new homebrewer's beer: commendable for trying but not very good. The food is limited, which I like in a brewpub. Some sandwiches. Some snacks. We're there for the beer after all. Except, as mentioned, the beer isn't that good. The food also needs work. Sloppy, overly sauced sandwiches? No, thanks. Service is okay but as mentioned by other reviewers, they've got to figure out a better system because it's gotta be a train wreck when busy. Also, having an owner/brewer just standing behind the bar watching when some extra hands are needed is a bad move. Get your hands dirty. A little chilly indoors, bring layers because if it's cold out and not crowded you may be uncomfortable. There are boardgames and darts and some fairy cool prints on some walls. The potential is there they're just not living up to it. Yet.

We ended up here after seeing a play at the Purple Rose Theater. Though I was not encouraged at seeing limited vegetarian choices, I enjoyed my veggie wrap (the sun-dried tomato aioli helps make it). The accompanying kettle chips deserve special mention. Normally, I am a french fry guy but these chips were the best I've had since...maybe ever. They tasted like a blend of corn and potato with very light salt. My wife's ale was smooth and tasty. She was also happy to be able to get a 10-ounce glass. Non-drinkers are remembered here, too, with draft root beer, fresh-squeezed lemonade and more. This is a casual place; you order at the bar and they hand you a number to put at your table. However, you can see (and taste) that they're into providing better than expected food. This makes for a relaxed, convivial time.

I'm gonna be the one to spoil the party, and i'm so sad! I HATE the beer at this local joint... i'm so sad to say it... it's so bitter, I can't even swallow one little tiny bit. The root beer is amazing, food is low-quality, and after two years, I still haven't figured out how to get service. We've been three times, same result. We basically just don't go here.... so sad!

I'm fairly torn with this place. I attempted to contact them on a Saturday but all I kept getting was a voicemail. I was supposed to meet friends on Sunday but had a few questions. I didn't receive a call back until Monday afternoon around 2pm. That in alone if itself is horrible business practice to get back with someone that much later. How do you not have someone managing the phone at a restaurant. I did end up going regardless of the no call back. Big IPA fan but unfortunately they were all out of theirs. I did get to try a ginger ale, not all that impressed. However the other ale I tried and my friend tried, we both agreed it was very good. Got a Reuben, nothing to rave about but that's because it's a Reuben. Another friend got the tempeh and liked it. I was impressed with the pretzel app. Good work ale house. Pretzels were delicious along with the sauce. That's coming from someone who doesn't like pretzels. Our server was also on par with what needed to be done. Would I come back. Yes but not going to be over excited about going.

First time here, great service, and the beer and food were top notch. I tried the Citra Moon IPA, a delicious summer kind of IPA. I ordered a salad with my black bean burger. Tried the vinegarette dressing and a side of hot sauce. So good all around, no complaints.

The beer here is terrible. Perhaps it is the Chelsea water? The service is equally as terrible. You feel as if you are inconveniencing the staff which deters us from ordering! The only reason for the second star is Trivia night!

Came here last weekend with a friend. Really cool place! I'm not a huge beer drinker, but I have fallen in love with the Silo White beer. Very drinkable, not too heavy. My friend had a darker beer and said it was very good! In regards to food, I wish I had ordered a sandwich, they looked/smelled great. They had a nice variety (veg/meat/cold/hot, etc). They also had a salad which you could add ham/turkey or bacon to. They have a nice appetizer selection as well. My friend had the chips and home made salsa and said it was great. I had the hummus appetizer and it was also very good. I'm not sure if the hummus was home made, but it was served with carrot sticks, pita bread and little pieces of garlic toast. I hope they offer soups in the winter months. You order at the bar, and then take a seat where ever you like. The whole brewery is nice and open. They offer book clubs and trivia nights. I will be back for a trivia night! Can't wait to visit again!!

We stopped in for a fast lunch recently -- had a very enjoyable flight of beers (special props to the Winter Wind Oatmeal Stout) , some nice, hearty sausage-potato soup and soft pretzels with cheese. My only suggestion regarding our lunch would have been a more interesting housemade spreadable cheese instead of the generic stuff that came with ours. (The menu is not large -- basic bar fare plus daily specials. The soups seem to be a "thing"; we did enjoy ours.) The atmosphere is definitely casual -- a large industrial/warehouse style interior brightened here and there with local artwork, and laid-back, coupla-guys-makin'-beer staff. We would stop here again.

The Chelsea Alehouse became a weekly stop for us last summer, on our way back from the farm West of Chelsea where we collect a CSA share. We enjoyed all the beers we tried, and got into the habit of taking a "growler" home to accompany the first meal made with our weekly farm share. The range of beers is very good -- from very heavy porters to fairly light, summer beers (we're not hard-core beer drinkers; I'll leave the detailed discussions to the experts). We haven't gone there since the summer, in part because it's not on a regular winter route, but in part because of what I find to be the Alehouse's main drawback -- its very limited menu. It just isn't a place for a serious meal -- for a light lunch, or a snack before dinner, or a beer and bite after dinner it's fine. We have generally been there in the late afternoon and early evening, when the big indoor space is usually fairly empty and the tables outdoors are (in the summer) quite popular. At that time of the day it's fine to go with children -- our seven-year-old even got to try his hand at darts. The beer isn't cheap, although it is, as I recall, cheaper than the Ann Arbor brew pubs, but we've certainly enjoyed everything we tried there, and we loved bringing a local brew home every week in the summer.

Just found out they're pouring, so a few of us ventured into the wilds of Chelsea to taste it out. It's pretty easy to find and they seem to have plenty of (free) parking. Staff was nice and attentive, but if you don't sit at the bar, you'll need to go to it to get your drinks. At times there was a line more than a few people deep, but that happens under that system. There plenty of table and booth seating, as well. I got a 5 glass sampler which included a Session Ale, Rye, Oatmeal Stout, IPA and Black IPA. All were good, though none were outstanding. The place is young and they will most likely need a while to adjust their recipes for larger than home brew production. It shows promise. The food comes off of a small menu and was middle of the road. I had a turkey sandwich with a pesto sauce. Not much zesto to the pesto. Add to that the blandness of a pretzel bun and there ya go! However, at least they do offer more than popcorn. Pricing for everything was middle of the pack, AKA, quite reasonable. We'll probably go back again, but not too often due to distance. For those in the Chelsea Metroplex, it's a fine place.

Chelsea Alehouse opened to the public today, and I had the pleasure of grabbing a couple beers in their first few business hours. Options are limited because, again, they just opened. Three beers (IPA, porter and white ale), a few appetizers, some sandwiches, and some non-alcoholic drinks. We got the white ale and the porter. Both were good, and tasted very, very fresh. Prices were low-to-moderate for the genre. Hours are also limited right now, to Thursday - Saturday, 3pm to 11pm (10 on Thursday). They're located a little bit back from the street between the main Clock Tower complex and the strip with Jet's Pizza in it, and they have a ton of parking available. The space is high-ceilinged commercial, of the exposed brick and polished cement floor school. I like it. It feels very open and warm. There's exterior seating that I imagine will be awesome whenever winter loosens its grip on Michigan (August, maybe?). Like most good brewhouses, it was pretty family friendly, with high chairs, toys and boardgames. There's also a dart board and pinball table. Can't wait until I live in Chelsea again, and can make Chelsea Alehouse my regular hangout.

If you want a casual, relaxed, laid-back, family-friendly environment with simple food and great beer, Chelsea Alehouse is a great place to go. I haven't tried a beer there that I haven't enjoyed, and I am pretty picky about beer! Their menu is small and simple - sandwiches, salads, snacks - but it's constantly growing, and they recently added a bunch of new vegetarian options. The pub-style environment is much more casual than Jolly Pumpkin or Grizzly Peak, so I would not go here for a big dinner out, but it's good if you're looking for a casual and light meal that goes along with heavy beers (note that not all their beers are heavy, I just gravitate towards IPAs and such), you will love this place. I really wish I lived closer (I am 25-30 miles away) so I could go more often because I follow them on Facebook and they're always adding new beers to their menu. They are also really dedicated to building up Chelsea and the surrounding community and often bring in local entertainment, which is very cool. If you haven't been to the Alehouse yet, you should definitely give it a try. Side note, they have a kid's menu and even some kids' games/toys so I feel comfortable bringing my 4-year-old here which isn't the case for most breweries.

I had the Ham and Swiss Sandwich with the Silo White Ale to drink. Sandwich was served with kettle style chips. The sandwich came wiht a hony mustard sauce that was good. I found the beer to be crisp but left a bit of a bitter after taste. All and all I would recomend this place.

Not a house. They sell more than Ale. Totally false advertisement, man. I'll let it slide though. The beers were pretty solid and it was a cool atmosphere even though we were the only people int he entire bar at 6 p.m. on a Friday. Kind of ruined the whole bar vibe. I think I made matters worse by fielding a call from my grandmother while sitting at the bar. She wanted to talk about the 2016 Presidential race. Also, it was quite cold in the bar and I felt like I needed a sweater. None of these things have anything to do with the other, but this review reads like I was at a Bill Knapp's and not a bar.
