So the Argonne family (I don't know their actual last name) opened this place around 1950 and have been serving shrimp, fried chicken, frog legs and Great Lakes whitefish ever since. Some other Yelpers don't like that some policies have changed over the last half century -- such as no longer offering all you can eat shrimp. But hasn't the whole world changed since then? Should the Argonne family be exempt from the rules of change over time? Their coleslaw served family style is really good. Their bread is so sweet and delicious that I recommend saving it for dessert since its almost like cake. Their shrimp are always large and at this visit my piece of broiled whitefish was so giant they had to tuck the ends under to get it to fit onto the plate. Come to the Argonne and enjoy well prepared food in Charlevoix the Beautiful and if you want things the way your grandparents remember them, please look at old family photo albums. These people are running a restaurant in a tiny resort town in the current day.

Ah the Argonne. My dear mother loved this place. My father would pile us all in the car and head north to the Argonne for shrimp and frog legs on a Saturday night in the summer. We would go on and off over the decades, We stopped going in the early 2000's, the service was poor and the shrimp just wasn't what it used to be. Flash forward to the summer of 2011. My wife and I thought we'd give this another try and I'm glad we did. The steamed and the hand battered fired are incredible. You have to try the mustard dipping sauce for either. Skip the salad and get the coleslaw. The salads are just ok but the homemade coleslaw is very good. I am giving the shrimp here 4 stars not anything else on the menu. Some of the other things we tried this last summer were not very good, so stay with the shrimp (if they have coconut shrimp as a special DO NOT GET IT, it's not their hand battered stuff it's not god at all) the perch was good but just get the shrimp. They close for the winter and open, i think, in May. so check before going. hey no longer do frog legs or all you can eat shrimp, but the portions are so big it's not an issue. My mom would be so happy.

Argonne used to be a staple if our annual week up north, but the service and quality have declined while the prices increased. They stopped the salads included in the dinners, portions are smaller and don't order the all-you-can eat shrimp unless everyone at the table does too.

The fried shrimp and mustard sauce along are worth the five stars, but the cole slaw and bread are also great. The atmosphere in the restaurant isn't great--kind of like an old folks home--so I like getting take out instead.
