Their special rolls have become a favorite "go to" lunch. Their Fantastic, Out of Control, Caribbean, Tropical, Spicy Girl, and Tiger Rolls are our favorite. You can call ahead and have your lunch ready for you if you're in a hurry. The staff is friendly and efficient. I'm not a regular hibachi diner, so I can't speak to that half of the restaurant. I will agree with the other reviewers that the floors and doors could use some be cleaning and interior signage could be presented in a more professional manner, but the sushi is creative and delicious.

We've been here multiple times, I've lost count! We even have an amazing hibachi chef we ALWAYS request. "Bing" is phenomenal and he actually remembers my shellfish allergy, our names and preferences. I get the chicken and filet, my husband gets the teriyaki salmon. All are to die for! Another staple is upgrading our fried rice for chicken fried rice. Do yourself a huge favor and order and extra side to take for left overs. The food reheats amazingly. The manager is always there and aims to please. And the restaurants ambiance is wonderful, though I do wish their bathrooms were nicer. You can't beat their pricing and the amount of food you get! I highly recommend their "yum-yum" sauce, my Husband dumps it over his chicken fried rice and he said it accentuates the flavor.

My family and I went here tonight to celebrate my son's birthday. We had a great time! Our Chef Tim was really great and teased my son squirted him with water, was throwing food at him and my son sucessfully caught a mushroom.. Bravo!! Tim was giving shots of sake. We sat with a family a mom and daughter and future mom in law the wedding being this weekend so our whole table was festive and happy! I had chicken and shrimp hibachi with rice and veggies yum yum sauce so yummy! I Also enjoyed a tasty yummy Blue hawaiian cocktail which was spectacular! The food great service excellent and our Chef Tim delightful plus to boot had a groupon! Had a fantabulous time!

Weird hibachi ambiance. I feel like the place has a layer of grease thus the easily sliding chairs. Unashamed tacky restaurant down to the paper taped to the front door stating them being opened on holidays to the open sign staying their hours of operation. Always on groupon, I'd prefer a take out.

Our efforts to eat here led to a very disappointing outing for my wife and I on date night. I have driven past this place more times than I can count and when a Groupon came up for them, jumped at the chance to get a meal at a Japanese steak house. Some time went by and finally my wife and I got a sitter to watch the kid and off we went to Ichiban. Our impression upon pulling into the parking lot was strange. The parking lot, nor the building were illuminated in any way, making us question if the place was even open or not. The lot appeared pretty full however. Thankfully there was a dimly lit store-bought open sign that let us know that we at least had a chance at a meal that night. Upon walking in we were greeted by a hostess and were informed that we would have a 30 minute wait before being seated and were directed into the lounge area to wait. We were anxious to have a good meal at a place like this so we had no problems waiting. Our second bad sign came when we saw the lounge had no less than thirty people waiting. We managed to find a seat at the bar next to a number of children and looked for a bartender to get a drink. To our dismay no bartender could be found. You would think with a large number of people waiting in a bar-type room you would be actively serving drinks to capitalize on the wait times but they did not. There were a number of people looking to get a beer or other beverage but none were to be had. Since we had ample time to spare waiting, I scanned our surroundings. The bar was very disheveled. Dirty glasses (which we witnessed being used to serve customers) were stacked behind the bar and Cartoon Network played on the only TV in the room. As the children slowly tricked out of the space, I nabbed the remote (which sat in front of me on the bar top) and changed it over to Family Feud. Time rolled by... After about an hour we came to the conclusion that Steve Harvey has really gone downhill and even worse that we had been waiting in the lounge for about an hour. Since the hostess told us it would be 30 minutes, we were a bit annoyed. We went back over and asked her why we had yet to be seated. She replied that there were large parties waiting and they had to be sat first. Basically I guess its their policy to seat large parties before smaller ones like my wife and I. At least that explained why they were seating people before us that came in after. I managed to catch the ear of a waiter as he was walking by and he said something to the effect of they could not 'train staff fast enough because they keep leaving'. Another not great sign. You could tell that they were seriously under-staffed that night. The comment from the waiter confirmed it and by this point we were convinced this place was not being managed very well. Finally we went back to the hostess (it had been about 1.5 hours at this point, one hour longer than she had originally told us) and told her we were leaving. Magically she found a seat for us. We were sat with a large party of people. The seats were uncomfortable and in bad shape. My wife's seat sat far shorter than mine so I went around to empty tables and found one that would match mine so we could sit at the same level. We looked over the menu and made our meal choice and a waiter, the same one that made the comment about staffing, came after about 15 mins to take a drink order. He then went and was helping clear tables. You would think that getting the drinks for a table of people would be important but I guess it was not. After about another 15 minutes of waiting for drinks and knowing it would be another 20-30 before we got to eat something and my wife in near tears from hunger, we got up and walked out. The food sure smelled nice, wish I could have tried some. We went to Red Robin, got a table, and had some burgers. Not the experience I had hoped for that night but at least we got to eat something. We are going to get a refund for the Groupon, there is no way I would give this place our money after that experience.

I'd leave 1/2 a star if I could! Went in with my GF because this is where we went on our first date. The hostess was nice, sat us. The waitress seemed ok at first. We got drinks, everything was ok. Got food.... It was awful. The chicken was rubber and the veggies were still cold. We had two bites, told the waitress, she got the manager. He was nice and told us to go ahead and re-order. 15 min later and 10 passes of the waitress and no attention. When we told them never mind just take it off the bill they hassled us. Assistant manager took our meal without saying a word. HIGHLY RECOMMEND EATING ELSEWHERE!

This was our first visit to a sushi restaurant, but we really enjoyed our meal. We checked out some reviews and looked at the menu before we went and figured we would just order various rolls as were not really into the steak/hibachi deal. While the waiter kinda of mumbled and was a bit hard to understand the service was great, waters refilled when getting close to empty, Getting another beer or placing an order for another roll was easy to do as he was on top of things. We had Crab Rangoon along with the following rolls; California, Avocado, Volcano and Empire. Took plenty home for the kids to snack on too. We really enjoyed the last two and could've easily made a nice lite meal for the wife and I out of those.

Initial Thoughts: * A sharing charge ($6.95)? Seriously? * Had to wait ten minutes to even see a host/hostess. * Beautiful interior, though some might call it trying too hard. * Lots of veggies on the floor from missed "here, catch this squash in your mouth" attempts. * A mini disco ball? Really? Ichiban has been around Canton for a little bit now, taking over the old Damon's and some other not-worth-remembering establishment. I never really looked at it and thought, "Wow, I should check this place out!" Nothing about the place would draw one in, and frankly, if I wanted hibachi style food, I'd more likely go to the BD's across the street (say what you will, at least you control what you're getting there). The place was actually pretty busy for a Sunday evening. Wait staff was ok, but since a few of the waiters have a bit of difficulty speaking English, make sure you speak clearly when ordering, especially if you have a special request. The hibachi chefs are pretty talented, but didn't do anything unique. They were interactive and served up a plentiful amount of sake from the squeeze bottle, which should make anyone happy. I will say one thing, though, and that's that the kids love it (not due in any part to the sake). Salad was soaked in dressing. Soup was fairly bland. The scallops and chicken were nicely done (butter helps tremendously). The "yum-yum" sauce and ginger sauce weren't bad, but I've had better yum-yum. Would I go back? No, most likely not. There are plenty better options in the area, which is a shame, because for the (seemingly high) amount of money the proprietors sunk into the place, you'd expect a better experience. Oh, and sorry, but hibachi grills do not beget elegance.

pretty good & prices way better than benihana. I hate sushi so i can't rate that! The hibachi chicken, steak, rice etc.Is excellent! The Waitstaff also top notch! The inside is absolutely beautiful & clean as can be. Great atmosphere...not quite sure why people are rating this place 2 or 3 stars! it's a very nice place! good for kids too if you dare...

Better than we had anticipated! Had Sumo Hibachi, assorted Nigiri, gyoza and rainbow roll. ALL was top notch! My BF is a sashimi connoisseur (according to me!) and he was impressed. I'm usually the one eating anything cooked and he was all in on this combo! The filet was true medium and chicken/shrimp not overcooked, veggies fresh. Oh, and I ordered a Fuji Volcano (gin, vodka, rum, OJ & pineapple juice) that came in a HUGE sipping bowl with a flame in the middle. The 2 if us couldn't even finish it so order 1 to share. Service was good, quick. Hardly anyone there though, so I'd be curious if they are this awesome with a full house. Can't wait to go back any time we're in the area.

I come here often. The cooks are all pretty talented and food has been good if not better every time except once. The only real complaint is the drink service... for some reason they have a really hard time bringing drinks most of the time which confuses me. Its great for kids- i take them all the time! Turns out 4 year olds like the show but wont likely want to eat the food- be prepared to stop for a second dinner

This place clearly spent their money on the interior design of the restaurant rather than the quality of the food and the service. The sushi was the worst I've ever had, and the service was lacking (i.e. missing in action) despite being at only one of about three occupied tables in the entire place. I will not be back.

    (1)
  • Pamela H.

THe worst sushi I have ever had! All the fish rolls were all minced up meat and something that was not able to detect. That surely is one way to cheap out on the meal. We were both full of rice but were very very disapointed that fish was not there. As Justin has written on his review I thought that the adult sharing charge of $6.95 and the childrens sharing charge was outrageous. If you cant eat that much of a mean you are forced to take it home and eat it when it is not at its best? Not what I would recommend. Uden is $10 and up? Its a noodle soup folks! We ate at the sushi bar, the sushimi of yellowtail was tender but not flavorful.

My husband and I have been waiting for this restaurant to open for the longest time and last night seemed to be a good night to give it a try. I have heard good things about the Ann Arbor location (which I now found out is not affiliated with this location), so I thought it would be a decent place for sushi as my craving for sushi never ends. When we got there we decided to sit in the non-hibachi area as we were planning on sushi. We changed our mind and got 1 roll as an appetizer and ordered separate hibachi plates. The California roll (a typically safe choice) tasted "meh", although the avocado was at perfect ripe-ness. Soup and salad was brought out. The onion soup (which I've had at Benihana before) was very disappointing. It tasted Lipton-cup-a-soup-esque accompanied by lonely floating mushrooms on top. The salad was ok, although the ginger carrot salad dressing seemed to have a food dye added which was kind of weird. I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi dinner, my husband ordered the salmon hibachi dinner. Pretty darn disappointing. I can say that my shrimp and steak were cooked fairly well, although they were room temperature by the time they were served to me. The fried rice was mediocre, but the vegetables were ick as they were limp covered by syrupy-sweet sauce. I have never ordered stir-fry at a Ram's Horn, but this is what I imagine it to taste like.... My husband's salmon was covered in the same goo substance which globbed off of it every time he picked a piece up with his fork. Although it tasted like a store bought can of sweet-and-sour sauce, it literally looked like brown phlegm. Not particularly appetizing. The 22 oz Sapporo was enough to soften the blow, but unfortunately wasn't enough to erase the memory. For a busy Friday night the waitstaff was pretty attentive, so they have one thing going for them. Probably not the fault of the restaurant, but the parking lot smelled like a gas station when we left.

The food was so-so. There was a snow storm the night we went there, so they had no excuse for the house salad full of chunks from the bottom of the head of iceberg...my fiance' had the shrimp tempura. It was greasy and the oil tasted old. I had the chicken and steak Teriyaki, since it really was a steakhouse. Both were dry and very thinly cut. I just wasn't impressed. We are sushi lovers and I wouldn't order it here. The restaurant was dirty and starting to look run-down..didn't it open in 2010? I just wouldn't chance it here. We aren't Habachi types, but I am sure that is fun with the right group. We won't go back unless we absolutely had to.

I just went to Ichiban for a birthday dinner tonight and I couldn't be happier with the experience. There is a lot going on with the decor and it creates a really cool vibe. From the tile bar and cool blue lighting to the bamboo accents and Japanese art, there was plenty to look at, including an extensive and easy to read menu. We dined on the hibachi side and our chef was pretty cool. His utensil flipping did not interfere with our meal in any way and he had a good sense of humor. The sauces were awesome, the food cooked to perfection, and while they didn't have their liquor license yet, we left with a new favorite beverage in the Thai iced tea. We had a range of picky steak orders from rare to beyond well done and the chef totally nailed em all. The first time you experience a birthday at this place, it will definitely catch you off guard. If you're not generally grumpy, its actually pretty amusing and makes for great people watching. Flashing disco lights come down from the ceiling and they play a Japanese techno version of Happy Birthday while the staff brings out a dessert with a wild blooming flower birthday candle on a plate decorated with fruit flavored icing art. A picture is taken while the candles are burning and is given to the guest of honor in a frame. Very cool. I am looking forward to my next trip to Ichiban, both for the delicious food and for the look on people's faces when the birthday lights and music come on.

I went with a large group for a birthday and although they were kind throughout the meal, the wait staff (not the Hibachi chef) was not very good. They messed up all kinds of orders and drinks and took a LOOOOOONG time seating us and bringing our food and drinks. Then the 'kind and attentive' staff turned very rude and defensive towards us for questioning the MANY mistakes and problems on our bills. Don't think you'll be getting a free birthday dessert either. They'll bring it out all smiles and laughs and then quietly charge it to your bill. Then when you question it they'll treat you like an unreasonable cheapskate. They definetly don't have a 'customer is always right' policy around this place and the female manager we interacted with had NO SENSE of deal with issues concerning customer satisfaction. Very rude.

I went here despite some rather low ratings on here. My date and I decided to forgo worrying about the lower ratings and try it out ourselves. We were very glad to have done this! They have a sushi bar, traditional seating, and seating around the grill. We opted to sit at the grill. We couldn't decide what to get so we split an order of Hibachi calamari and an awesome sushi roll, with some sushi appetizers as well. We were not at all disappointed. The cook gave a good show, as to be expected at one of these places! The children all were laughing and enjoying the show by the cook as their food was being prepared. The staff were all friendly and prompt. The sushi and the Hibachi meal were both very good! They charged us an extra $6.95 to split the Hibachi meal, which provided an extra salad & soup as well as a little bit bigger portions than a regular sized meal. We left there stuffed and were not able to finish the food. Overall: generous portions, well prepared food, friendly staff, clean and comfortable environment, good environment for groups, dates & families. We will be going back!

We went to the restaurant on a Saturday night about 6pm. It was not very busy, and I thought for sure we were going to have a great experience. It was just okay. The service was slow, friendly, but slow. The food was decent, just not special. We did not sit at one of the grills, but we could tell people did enjoy it. We will eat here again, but I wouldn't bring friends here to impress them.

Having sushi just two days before coming here, I wasn't in the mood to eat sushi again. I did have a piece of the california roll and lobster roll. Both were alright. Our food took a long time to come out and I'm not sure why. I'd ordered the pad thai. Don't order the pad thai. I've never had pad thai with onion. The taste is just off, meaning it doesn't taste like regular pad thai. Hot sauce...it's more like sweet tangy sauce rather than hot sauce. So very Americanized/I don't know what. Just don't order it. Place is pricey for what they offered. Maybe the Habachi would be a little bit better since the price is about the same. Atmosphere - It's okay, not bad. I just thought it was a bit funny. When I walked in, I felt like I was in a chinese 90s karaoke bar with the dark lighting and swirling disco lights plus the chinese oldies music playing the background, which I don't get because this is Japanese restaurant.

We had a Groupon for Ichiban, so we thought we'd check it out. First, it took 15 minutes for our server to come. Then when we gave her the Groupon she said it couldn't be used on sushi rolls. WHAT?!?! It said that it was for sushi. We ended up leaving and getting our money back on the Groupon. We won't go back.

I don't know about the bad reviews, but we had a great hibachi dinner. I am a big fan of Benihana, and this was very comparable to the service, price point, and quality. The sushi was fresh, delicious, and presented in a heart shape.

  • Holly P.

This place does not have the flavor/presentation like Benihana, but for Canton I think it's nice to have a place like this. I just wish when they open places like this they would get an authentic chef that is experienced in this type of cooking to teach all the cooks. Not dying to go back by any means but will once in a great while to mix things up and give them another chance.

I've been to Ichiban several times. Here's my thing though and not many understand this aspect. I value quality over quantity. If you're looking for quantity then Ichiban is the place for you, in my opinion. I have dined in both the restaurant and hibachi areas. The restaurant part (the left side of Ichiban) is a waste of money. I ordered teriyaki beef and it was disgusting. It didn't even taste like beef, plus it was soggy. Ewwwwww. This part of Ichiban, I do not recommend. The hibachi side of Ichiban is what you need to come for (clearly) haha! The prices for regular hibachi are anywhere from $18 - $35 per person for adults. (I'm not familiar with what they offer for kids). Your meal will come with soup, salad, 2 shrimp (unless you order shrimp or veggie dinner), fried rice, and veggies. Not only do you get dinner but you also get a show from the chef (depending on who you get, haha!) Some chefs are more entertaining than others, just like some servers are more efficient than others. Anyway, my main point being that their soup is delicious and the variety in their veggies is great but that their quality of meat isn't up to my standards. Ergo, overall Ichiban is an A-OK in my book. I've been here many times and will return regardless because who doesn't love some hibachi that's decently priced? Me! Plus, I've never had an experience that was just awful. The only thing that seems to be lacking lately is the service for beverages and refills but to me that has nothing to do with the quality of food. Again, A-OK seems reasonable to me.

So my first time here I thought it was a pretty nice Japanese steakhouse. Empty on a Tuesday night but not complaining because we had prompt service. Of course I only ordered sushi because I'm not really big on the "fried rice" and show aspect when dining out. Which is in part why I gave them three stars because I haven't tried the place entirely. The sushi was good. Different but good. Seeing as though I went to a place I had never been before I opted to try things I don't usually find at my regular sushi spots. I had the Out of Control roll, Tiger roll, Tuna Tartare, and clear soup. No complaints EXCEPT they murder the tartare with this overly sweet sauce they fill the plate with. I loved the black tobiko and masago they topped it with though. I could definitely see myself coming back. It's a ton of appetizers I would love to try on the sushi menu.

We've been here a couple of times. The first time it was pretty good. It is really dark inside. The second time, we got carry out. Tempura cali roll was undercooked. Should have been crispy and lightly browned, instead was doughy and well....blah. The rest of the rolls were decent I guess.

Our friend had a groupon for this place and when we pulled up at 5:30 on a Friday night the parking lot was empty. We should have realized why; poor food at really high prices. We did not do the Hibichi but sat in the booths. The service was OK; I ordered the Soba Noodles with tempura and my wife had the Pad Thai. Soba noodles were in the miso broth - boring, no other veggies and the noodles were over cooked. the tempura was greasy. I have had this dish many other places (including Japan) and just didn't add up. Never seen Pad Thai with green peppers,, no egg, no green onion, and no bean sprouts; it was mushy noodles with fish sauce. And we paid about $15 per person - wow will not be back.

I WILL NEVER EAT IF WE HAD THE CHINESE GIRL SERVER. Zero stars for this time! I did not like my chinese server who screwed up with my mom's ice cream order and instead of saying sorry and just let my mom eat the already eaten piece and give her another bowl of the correct flavor... took the bowl while my mom had a spoon in her mouth and asked: why didnt you tell me its not right. this is already eaten, we cant take it back. You ruined something. My mom of course still had ice cream in her mouth so I asked if she can check her notes. Only after the second time I asked then she hesitantly pulled out and said oh, well fine, i can go and get your ice cream,. But once again instead of leaving the half eaten bowl, she took it away and when she brought back the correct flavor, she smacked it down and walked away where is the i am so sorry i cant read vanilla from green tea? How about sorry about the mixup, here is a free bowl The other servers I had were super nice and would understand but she was so rude. I wasnt finished with my food and she didnt care and took it away. Of course I didnt like my soup but I am not done eating. She also rushed us and asked if we can pay soon. I looked around and thought? Wow only 3 tables in the regular dinning area and you want us to pay soon while we are still eating???? p.s. they do not know what sukiyaki is. What I got was regular udon but lacks even that flavor. I cannot order the sukiyaki thats for sure. I liked the tempura ice cream though. Might go back if we have a different waitress. She can use lots of training thats for sure.

This is our family's favorite place to go for parties. The food is always amazing. The portions and pretty good sized. We always have left overs. The staff is friendly and great for all ages. Pretty good about refills. It is a bit pricey but it's definitely worth it. Great quality food. And everything always looks very clean. There is a certain cook we always ask for named ping he always hooks us up with extras. (Probably because we tip him) and there are coupons online we use every time. I don't have a bad thing to say about the hibachi. However the rest of the menu like sushi, don't bother asking the wait staff questions because they either can't understand you or don't know the menu.

Ok, so I came here and the parking lot was empty, I had a Groupon to go here for dinner. I went on Halloween and I walk in and there is a sign displayed reading "no groupon's today, it is a holiday". This really surprised me cause last time I checked Halloween was not a REAL holiday and it was the last day for me to use the Groupon at their restaurant. I spoke with the manager telling him my Groupon expired on 10/31 and I was not aware they considered that day a holiday. They told me they could not accept it and to come back another day after it is expired and I can use it for what I paid for it 15.00 VS 30.00 worth of food. I was very upset by this news and can't understand why the restaurant made the groupon expired on 10/31 and NOT 10/30. I was not able to get a refund (from Groupon) and I am not going to even entertain the idea of going back to this place. So are they also not taking the Groupons on grandparents day, Sisters day, ground hogs day? WTF?? They should specify what they consider a holiday or make it easier for EVERYONE and had the groupon expire on a non "holiday". Groupon told me they were going to have the restaurant contact me back, I have yet to hear from them. If you go here with a groupon, please make sure it is not a day they consider a holiday...

So first the good... Good location & nice decor. The selection of food items is good - including sushi & Thai, in addition to the normal Japanese steakhouse menu. The service was ok at best. The chef did a nice job of entertaining & I especially enjoy the long distance shot of saki they give you (from a squeeze bottle). The food was not worth the price. Steak & chicken was over-cooked & everything gets glazed in the house sauce (teriyaki-ish). The floor and table were not clean - there was old cooked rice on the floor. Shrimp was good, lobster was ok. When the server asked how the meal was, my wife said, "not so good." The guy, not knowing how to handle such a comment, look at us, raised two thumbs up and said enjoy...then walked away. He did not ask what was wrong or send a manager over. He was untrained, unprofessional and not very good at his job. The chef was very nice and very entertaining - although his cooking left much to be desired. I would not go back and do not recommend this to anyone. Save your money for a better experience somewhere else. Benihana is by far superior. Actually, my local asian restaurant (Pekin Tokyo) served better quality hibachi style food for half the price. I don't usually write such reviews, but since I love food (good food), I was moved to speak of my experience.

Okay, the service is slow but the food is great! I loved the Hibachi grill salmon! My rice was very delicious although a little crunchy. The sushi was also good and the drinks were to die for! The Just Peachy martini and the Volcano drink were oh-so amazing! If you get the volcano be sure to share because it comes ìn a large round dish. The chefs were amazing and did sake shots around the table! Good times! I'll definitely make this a regular spot. Even my picky fiancé loved his teriyaki chicken. Oh, and the grilled shrimp was cooked to perfection! This place is a major win in my book! Just try it, especially if you are a Benihana fan. This place is all the flavor for half the price of its overrated competitor.

The lobby needs new couches, they are VERY worn and look horrible but that is my only complaint. The chef was great and very entertaining and the food was tasty, plentiful and cheaper than Benihana. We will definitely be be back with our $10 gift card that was given to all the Mom's today for Mothers Day!!!! It was a nice surprise!

Waitress had trouble wiping down the tables (left rice on the table), and had to have another waitress come an fill up glasses with tea. You order your food and then they bring you soup and salad. Soup was good and so was the salad. Waiting for our food was ridiculous. You had a 30 minute wait between you salad and soup before your food got here. Chef was very good!! Food was excellent!! Also taking the bill took 10 minutes. After coming here I wouldn't recommend coming if you think it's going to be a quick dinner. For us we were here for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

I went there on the premise that the food & service would be an experience i'd never forget. Boy was that true, except in the worst way possible. When we walked in, there was no hostess to seat us. After waiting 5 minutes, she looked annoyed but came and seated us. My husband & I really wanted to watch and enjoy the hibachi style dining (I absolutely love japanese cuisine). We were sitting with 2 couples, one had an 8 year old daughter. Some of the plates on the table were still dirty so we had to ask for new ones. We all ordered and got our drinks right away. Also the soup (delicious) and salad (wish they put the carrot-ginger dressing on the side; wasnt fond of it) came out together quickly. Now for the hibachi, what we were very excited for. The chef seemed nice until he did the 'throwing food in peoples mouth' thing. The older gentleman at the table couldn't catch the broccoli in his mouth, so the chef shifted his attention to his girlfriend with a very revealing shirt showing cleavage. He then proceeded to ask her to 'open her mouth wide because she can' and was launching veggies down her shirt. I was absolutely appauled; isn't this place family dining?? He also gave out shots of sake by squirting it into the diners mouth, which was totally cool until he purposely got the lady with the low shirt drenched in sake. Not classy at all, especially since there was a child at the table. I had ordered a cucumber & volcano roll. My husband got the chicken hibachi. They brought my rolls shortly after the soup & salad, but i got cucumber & avocado roll instead. By the time i got ahold of her, she realized her mistake since it said volcano on the reciept, and disappeared to fix it. I got the rolls after everyone at the table had finished their hibachi dinner, so almost an hour. I was so hungry, & the volcano rolls were nasty. I had a traste of the chicken, it was so bland and dry, even the side sauces didnt help much. My husband usually cleans his plate. This was the first time i've ever heard him say 'Wow, that was nasty.' We paid & left but wont return. Very upset.

The food is great but there's just to much MSG in it. Every time I go there I have stomach problems an hour after I get home. I regret going every time but yet I still go back because the food is so good.

I really like Ichiban! I have been here several times and the food is always amazing!! Every time I have been here we have ordered Hibachi dinners and enjoyed the fun side of the restaurant. The Hibachi meals come with soup, salad, a large portion of delicious rice, a hefty amount of grilled veggies, 2 pcs of shrimp, and the meat of your choice. My personal favorite is the shrimp, it is incredible, especially when you dip it in their yum yum sauce!! The sauce lives up to the name it is very very yummy!!! PROS: Fun environment!! Excellent food! The Hibachi chefs will offer you free saki while they are preparing your food, makes for quite a fun evening!!! CONS: A little on the pricey side! The last time I was here we were with a party of 8 at 6pm on a Saturday night, now normally the hibachi grill tables seat about 8 people, but because they were busy they stuffed 11 of us at one table. We were packed in very tight and it made me a little uncomfortable. TIPS: There are usually coupons for Ichiban that come in the mail in the "Clipper Magazine" which help out a lot seeing as though the meals are expensive. Also, I would recommend not going at prime time, I went with a group of 4 on a Sunday afternoon and we were some of the only people in the restaurant, we had the whole table to ourselves which was great!!

We did have to wait even though we had reservations. Friendly staff. You could have your food prepared in front of you or eat already prepared plates. My husband and son ordered their food already prepared and commented on cold food. The soup should have been more than just broth. The food prepared on the grill was wonderful and tasty. Or chef was fun and excellent. He engaged our full table. I would go again. Pricing not outrageous.

Jesus Christ. Ate here when it opened. Me and my wife didn't even get to leave the restaurant before needing to hit the toilet. Its bad when you know what you just ate made you that ill because it came out looking the same as it went in. Thats not good folks. I had high hopes because the inside was nice. Pay for my dinner and ill give it another shot. Otherwise im not wasting the money just to leave my meal in the toilet of the same establishment. Fail.

The appetizers were delicious. The soup was yummy. Sushi was good. Dinner was horrible. My steak was way over done. I asked for medium rare came out well done. My rice was so salty I could barely swallow my spoonful. When I told the waitress about my rice, she told me she wasn't sure if she wouldn't be able to take it off my bill. I spoke to a manager and he removed it. I probably will not come back. For almost the same price, I could go to other restaurants and enjoy all my food.

Wow, very pleased. More food than you receive at Benihana's, and it was quality food too - what good is quantity if the quality isn't there? I ordered the filet and lobster tail (because I'm a snoot), and Ken got the strip steak and scallops. Ken's steak was very nicely prepared and had great flavor, but the filet won the turf war as it was so tender and succulent. Surf war was a tie. My lobster tail was huge, perfectly cooked, and came with a side of garlic butter made on the flat top. The scallops were sea not bay, and super sweet. Each meal came with soup (broth with a couple mushroom and scallion slices) and salad (with that strangely addictive dressing), fried rice (which you pay extra for at Benihana's), a couple medium sized shrimp, and a pile of fresh veggies. We both brought home leftovers, and that never happens at this type of place. We had a sushi roll, which was good but not great. Our chef had a squirt bottle of sake that he'd stream in your mouth until you told him to stop (I could have emptied the bottle, but I decided to look lady like and cut him off after about 15 too-short seconds). The chef was funny and cheesy, just what you want. We had a Living Social deal, which got us in the door. We'll go back and pay full price without a problem.

Decent food, bad experience. Bought a Groupon for $15 off $30 and I didn't read the fine print that you must order a hibachi meal. (My fault, I know.) However, before I bought the Groupon, I called the restaurant and asked if we could use the Groupon for Sushi, and they said yes. So.. we bought it on that assumption. After we ate our $60 Sushi meal for two people, they wouldn't except it. Normally I would shut up because I didn't read the fine print; however, I had called and specifically asked and was only told "yes" not "yes but with one hibachi meal." Manager wouldn't budge. I mean, if business was booming they probably wouldn't be on Groupon... and crappy service like this is going to keep them there. *Hibachi is good. Sushi is OK.

I've never seen a restaurant run so poorly, and so many upset customers punished for being upset. We had a 7 PM reservation, and arrived 5-10 minutes before hand. We checked in, and were informed they were overbooked and it would be a while. After standing there for 30 minutes, we checked with the staff to see when we might be seated. They had our party name on a post it note grouped with others, and we were told we'd be next. Soon after they seated a large party that came in after us, because they stood at the counter yelling at them. I walked up to the counter and asked if I should do the same, and was told "I don't know how to handle this." After talking to the manager, he appeared to start working on it. Instead, they bumped us to the bottom of the 7 PM reservations to be sat. Finally at 8:20 PM we got to our grill, only to have all our drinks brought out wrong, one party's sushi never delivered, and another party's beer brought after the check was delivered. The attitude of the management was ridiculous. One table's entire dinner was botched, so they gave them 10% off. All while the manager complained the entire time they were getting a discount. At our table, the waitress argued with the person who didn't want the beer after dinner was over, saying he had to pay for it. The Chef himself was good, and food was pretty good. But because of the attitude of the staff and management, I'd recommend going to Benihana or any other hibachi.

It's a Saturday, we slept in late, and come 2 o'clock we are on the road trying to come up with a lunch option, when inspiration suddenly hits. Hibachi is fun and Ichiban is on the list of places that the 8 year old likes and approves. There were probably 20 or so other people there, so the wait was a little long for getting a chef, but I think they had more people show up than normal on a snowy middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. No big deal, as the soup and salad helped pass the time. Speaking of, the soup was very good, but the salad had a dressing overload. Don't get me wrong, I normally love the ginger dressing, but this was a lettuce soup. I ordered the shrimp and chicken dinner, while my beautiful wife ordered the filet mignon dinner. The show was good, with plenty of utensil twirling, egg tossing, flames, onion volcano, and jokes mixed in. The fried rice was quite good, the shrimp and chicken were cooked perfectly, and vegetables were nicely done as well. My wife's filet was was a nice large cut, later cubed and cooked perfectly medium rare. The portions were great, more than I expected. The meats were really good when dropped in and left to soak in the ginger sauce. I didn't touch the nasty yum yum sauce, wishing it were instead the wonderful mustard sauce provided by a competing chain. The service was very good; They were competent and attentive, with no complaints.

FOOD POISONING! Stay AWAY! 2 people I know got food poisoning from the sushi at this place in late 2013. One of them was even hospitalized. NEVER eat here. Not enough turnover for the sushi to be fresh.

Pretty good value in comparison to Benihana, however something was missing. The fun-showmanship was a little dull but I think you get what u pay for. My family of three went there for lunch for less than $35. I would go again since I live in the area however may try just eating in the dining room instead of hibachi grill. Give them a try.

We go here all the time. The service is always great and the chefs are very entertaining. Great food, they go heavy with the garlic in the fried rice and I dig that. We actually went the other day with a big party and after we paid the bill the manager stopped us to let us know that gratuity had already been added. So we had accidently over tipped pretty extremely. We corrected it and thanked the manager for his honesty. You don't see that often. I was very inpressed.

Food was decent, customer service was terrible. We had a reservation for 7pm, our whole party was there (they won't seat you unless everyone is there), even with a reservation we waited an additional hour to be seated on the hibachi side. The hostess just sat at the desk slumped over like she had to better things to do, and our waitress had a hard time keeping our ordera straight, and apparently finding soy sauce - in a Japanese restaurant! The food was okay, bit over had better. The best thing about our dinner was the hibachi chef. He was great, and totally entertained us and the kids in our party. I definitely would not go back.

On par with most hibachi places. Came here for my wife's birthday after a successful visit before. Would it still rock out? AMBIANCE- this place is HUGE. I swear this used to be an old Mountain Jack's or something, but there is room for days. We went on a Thursday and they only had one room open. Standard "Hibachi" decor was in effect. As you walk in, the bar had a laser light show deal going on. And to the left is for people who do not come for hibachi. SERVICE- servers were generally on top of things. Had to ask for chop sticks, but besides that, no real issue. The actual chef was engaging, and was getting the table going by offering free "squirts" of sake to patrons (they literally squirt sake from a ketchup looking bottle into your mouth). It was nice to see my brother in law take a 15 second "hit" of sake. MENU- Besides the obvious hibachi, they had a pretty nice selection going on. From standard Japanese fare, to panang curry, they definitely had the "pan asian" vibe going on. Pretty decent selection of sushi too, from standard to house rolls. Unless someone does not like Asian food, they'll find something to eat here. BTW- Sushi is 20% off Mon-Thurs. all day. More on that. FOOD- We decided to get some sushi in addition to hibachi. The sushi was not great by any means. Granted we got some relatively "boring' rolls" (smoked salmon roll, tempura shrimp roll), they were just done alright- comparable to buffet quality sushi (oh yes, I did). Had we gotten a better role, I would have hoped for better. The family got a full range of the hibachi- scallops, steak, shrimp and chicken. Everything was done well, and how could it not be as it was soaked in butter (mmmm butter). The steak seemed a little salty, but besides that, everything hit the mark. OVERALL- decent price (certainly cheaper than benihana). If you're craving hibachi, this place should suffice. Celebrity Rating- Juwan Howard

OH Well, this is thee place for "elegance" yet you may still show up in your blue jeans! Oh my my !! Where do I start? There is wonderful candlighting on one side and the other is very beautiful also. When you go on your birthday you get a beautiful lotus flower that is on fire sparkling and some music plays and then it fizzles out and there you have a nice little dessert to eat! It's great for fun Birthday treats! Also, the food is wonderful and we've had nothing like this in Canton Michigan, before. We have many of the big "chain" restaurants, but this place is sort of in between a chain restaurant and a "mom and pop" place. Mostly, because as you are seated swiftly, the host or hostess is very pleasant and everyone and anyone working there will smile at you and make you feel at home! I'm not very daring on the food issues at times, with the Chinese or Japanese foods, but I have to say that this place gave the best food, value, friendliness and all of that for the best money can buy! We have an annual celebration of our family birthdays and we get to each choose which restaurant we want to visit for our special day. Here is a picture Of my daughter and her boyfriend at this Canton, MI Ichiban. Of course they are finished with their dinner and getting the darling "burning lotus flower" for my daughter's 22nd birthday!! I'm jus sayin...it's theee place to go ...especially when you have a Birthday or a celebration!

I have been waiting a long time for this place to open. It used to be the Texas Roadhouse in front of Lowes. This is a Hibachi Steakhouse and Sushi Bar. We did not dine in the Steakhouse area, we opted for the other dining section adjacent the sushi bar. However, the prices for the Hibachi and selection looked nice. We ordered the Seaweed Salad (wonderful, had finely sliced cucumbers underneath which were a delicious little surprise). We then ordered the Empire Roll. This is basically a spider roll with a minced spicy tuna on top-Yummm. We also had the Crunchy Roll, which is crab (artificial) and tempura batter crumbles, this is only $4.95 and very good size and delicious. We also had to try the California Roll. I wouldn't get that again, they don't cream the crab (it's just the stick). The interior is an interesting mix of elegance, contemporary, but then some cheesy looking stuff, like cheap silk bamboo between two panes of glass like a narrow fish tank in the walls. The red beads over some of the booths are nice for privacy, but look a bit like a Bordello. I would have preferred some classic rice paper dividers or something. Overall, the service was very good, they were very glad to see us and attentive. I hope this continues and I will definitely be going back.

I really wanted to like this place. I thought it would be similar to Benihana, which happens to be one of my favorites. But unfortunately, the food was bad as well as the service. Let's start from the beginning. As soon as I walked in, there was no host. After waiting, I had to go search one out. We decided to sit in the dining room instead of the hibachi area. The dinning room was so dark and the booths were set so far away from the table it made it very uncomfortable. Next up - the food. What can I say? Oily, bland. We ordered a splendid roll which was a shrimp tempura roll. This was probably the best thing I ate and that's not saying much. It was just a deep fried roll with some sauce that cost about $16. The soup had no flavor, the salad was doused in dressing. The main entree wasn't much better. Rice and veggies, absolutely no flavor but oil. The service was slow. We had to ask for everything twice, sometimes three times. I don't plan on going back. There are much better choices out there.

Excellent food! Service is so so. Everything is great about this place but the one thing is everytime I go, it is never packed and I am annoyed with all the people who work there. They usually have about 20 people on staff at a time, and when they aren't busy, they just kind of hang around the seating area and watch you eat- kind of uncomfortable. However, I would recommend.

it was bad, very very bad. First off, the food. our friends and i ordered mainly sushi which, i have to be honest was not good. the rice wasn't flavored enough, and you could barely taste the salmon in my spicy salmon roll.i also ordered sukiyaki which was good, but i don't think it was real sukiyaki. i never got the raw egg to eat with my food. Second, the service was decent, for us. i did notice that for everyone else who was there for hibachi, it seemed to be quite the cluster. Not only had people been waiting long times, but the hostess kept coming by asking those sitting around the bar if there was anyone there who was waiting for hibachi! the first time it happened, i thought it was strange, but then hearing it two more times, i was shocked! what's the point of leaving your name with the hostess if someone is going to ask a room of folks waiting for hibachi?i get the sense the long waits and unorganized seating process is somewhat the norm. there was a kid who got so impatient that she walked over to the room, saw the prior group leaving the table and declared, the table was free, i'm going to sit now. her parents were shocked and rightfully embarrassed. but from what i could tell, they had been waiting a long long time. in addition, while eating my dinner, i heard two different people making complaints. The first lady to complain was telling the manager ( i think she was the manager) how she and her table had to wait over an hour for the chef to get there. you know she was pissed when she complained despite the chef being there. The second guy, i think was part of the same group/table, complaining about his bill. i think his beef was that the restaurant didn't do anything for him on the bill so he complained. although i think the restaurant should have done something for him, i find it incredibly tacky of the customer. but that's somewhat indicative of the clientele. overall, i will not be returning.

I love hibachi - and Japanese food in general. I've never had a problem here (maybe slow service once and a while, but nothing a little patience can't handle). New Years Eve: what a cluster. I walked in with 2 in my party, no reservations. Normally this is cake-they seat you right away but after a quick conversation with the overwhelmed hostesses they let slip that their GM CONSTANTLY overbooks on holidays. So, we're patient people and were going to wait regardless (thinking they would slip us in if there were 2 seats open hibachi-side). Meanwhile, we overheard MANY a walk-in told there was a 2.5 hour wait for hibachi. Unfortunately too many of those who had called for reservations were also told they would have to wait. (Though really, who tries to put in a reservation for 19 at a hibachi place??) The staff and kitchen handled as well as they could but I bet at LEAST 50 people walked out of the restaurant. I can't imagine that is a good recipe for a successful restaurant with a repeat customer base. The GM needs some training in managing a restaurant and the hostesses need to find a better system for serious overflow (that isn't post-it notes). It might also be helpful to staff your restaurant properly such that there is more than one waiter in your dining area and the bus-boy doesn't have to serve on holidays. Sad. Food: 4 stars Service: 3 stars (A- for effort) Atmosphere: 1.5 stars (frantic staff, craaanky customers) Overall experience: 2.5 stars

We've been here a couple of times. The first time it was pretty good. It is really dark inside. The second time, we got carry out. Tempura cali roll was undercooked. Should have been crispy and lightly browned, instead was doughy and well....blah. The rest of the rolls were decent I guess.

Basic tabletop. Good performance and flavors. No issues with reservations. We brought our young grandson here and it worked out perfectly. He was entertained and we had a great meal.

The food was alright, but the service was not good. The drinks our group ordered were not mixed well. Don't order the Pink Lady unless you like a ton of rum. I do recommend the Las Vegas roll.

Fail.

Give them a try.

pretty good & prices way better than benihana. I hate sushi so i can't rate that! The hibachi chicken, steak, rice etc.Is excellent! The Waitstaff also top notch!

There are much better choices out there.

it was bad, very very bad.

Had dinner here with the family and had a great time. The food was good, cook did a nice job entertaining and we were seated immediately without a reservation. I don't understand the bad ratings and will gladly return.

We ordered off the sushi menu. Excellent quality, very tasty, and reasonably priced. We will be back!

This place clearly spent their money on the interior design of the restaurant rather than the quality of the food and the service. The sushi was the worst I've ever had, and the service was lacking (i.e. missing in action) despite being at only one of about three occupied tables in the entire place. I will not be back.

Very rude.

Been to this place two times. Each time the service & food was great! The inside interior feels cozy & comfortable too.
