The Wooden Spoon Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I tried this place for the first time yesterday and I was very pleased with the entire experience. This restaurant is ultra cute, but it serves serious food. I went for lunch, and had the Wholly Cow (Shaved beef ribeye, grafton village cheddar, balsamic soaked onions & Horseradish spread on a baguette) with a side of Mushroom Brie soup. The bread was a nice crust, and the beef great. I could have used a bit more salt, but overall, it was simple and good. The soup was perfect. It was creamy, but left enough texture to still call it soup instead of sauce. If I ever have to drive by Brighton again, I will be eating here.

Service was excellent. Mac and cheese was amazing. Kyle Fisher was playing on the patio, and fantastic. Great evening!

What a fabulous find! I'm not a local and Wooden Spoon came up on Yelp and thought give it try. Charming, excellent, personable servers and the absolutely delicious.

We're here for the pig roast tonight - unbelievably wonderful all u can eat - from salad, potato salad, cole slaw, sweet corn on the cob, baked beans, jalapeño cheddar biscuits (to die for, especially hot out of the oven), and do much more. This is the local restaurant you always want to find when you're traveling. Hats off to the chef snd staff. Fabulous evening tonight.

Went here for lunch with an old friend. She eats Paleo and I was excited for her to show me how she eats on a daily basis and to help me select a paleo friendly option to theme our lunch with. I always love diving into new ideas and foods and this spot was awesome for that! Especially for the Brighton area! Creamed Asparagus Soup- Delicious and homemade. I really enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. It didn't take on too much of the bitter asparagus, which I like but, was unsure of a soup version of. Great, Great, Great!! Black and Bleu Salad- Very good. Kinda expensive and definitely a lot of intense salad for one person but, very good. I loved the Polenta Crutons they were cooked perfectly and the Balsamic delicious! Tandoori Chicken Caesar- Very good. I just sampled a bite. The chicken a bit dry but, the flavors all there. Really enjoyed the sample I had off my friends plate! This is a must stop spot for anyone appreciating great food concepts with very fresh ingredients. A sure surprise for an area like Brighton which seems full of Bar and Grill vibe next to Faux fancy which usually dissapoints....me at least.

I'm not a local. I was looking for a good meal, and wanted something other than the usual Brighton fare. This place showed up as well-reviewed on Yelp, and it seemed to be worth a try. It was. I haven't been this pleasantly surprised by a restaurant in a long time. About the meal: Mushroom Brie soup: excellent. Salad: dried cherries, goat cheese, chicken: also excellent (and a whomping generous portion). I had the "comparison of pheasant". Both preparations- confit and seared- excellent, and the herbed risotto was very good. We didn't have dessert because we were full, but I will be back to try the rest of the menu when I'm in the neighborhood.

Great spot to eat in Brighton. Fresh ingredients and well prepared. Every time I've been here it's been fantastic.

I have had the pleasure of celebrating a friend's birthday at this delicious and unique place. We were treated so nicely and our dessert was a perfect way to end a unique meal. We ended up sharing two dishes because we just couldn't decide from all their choices. We have also returned to use their take-out feature a few times to make our everyday work-week-night special. The food never disappointed.

Delicious fresh original menu that changes as often as the chef wants to change it! Will return again.

A great gem for the city of Brighton! Nicole our waitress was great and made some good suggestions. The menu is inventive and delicious! Highly recommend the Brie & Mushroom Soup, Soup du Jour last night was Red Pepper Bisque and was spit on. Dishes sampled last night - Roasted Chicken, Shrimp and Grits, Tres Major Steak. All outstanding! As a Chef I normally would be more critical, but these guys are on their flavor game. My only complaint is the drinks could be better, vodka martini slightly weak and no copper mug for a Moscow mule. Outside of that if your a foodie you owe it to yourself to try this restaurant if you find yourself in Brighton.

As others have said, the mushroom and brie soup is a must-have. It is cheesy, creamy deliciousness. I also recommend the crispy vegetable gnocchi, which id topped with a generous amount of fresh asparagus. That the pasta sauce comes on the side so the gnocchi does not get soggy. The entree portions are generous, you could easily split one with a friend or take home leftovers. They have a great selection of beer, wine and cocktails. Despite being so close to the road, the atmosphere feels cozy and secluded. I look forward to visiting this place again!

This is my new favorite restaurant in Brighton! Fresh ingredients, great service, and a nice outdoor patio make it all come together here! New and innovative dishes with fresh vegetables, seafood and steak, even a large unique selection of teas that are served hot, or iced! There's nothing frozen and fried in this restaurant. It is definitely the best of Brighton!

This place is exceptionally well managed- I have been coming here for years. Whenever I'm in Brighton I make sure to go. Favorite sandwich is the old #8.

This restaurant is downright adorable. Simply put, if I could just wrap my arms around it and give it a nice big hug, I would! Right when you sit down, there are quaint touches like mason jar table decorations and raffia napkin ties. Our service was great, never lacking for anything, but never overbearing either. The mushroom Brie soup, as many other reviews said, was excellent! For lunch, I had a delicious sandwich with apples, walnuts, cheese, and vinaigrette. It was amazing! The perfect blend of sweet, crunchy, and tart! They offer a good selection of beer and wine, but what I chose was herbal water, which was great, and perfect for lunch! I honestly cannot wait to return for dinner! Better yet, I can't wait to return in the summer, when they open their outdoor patio grill area, it seems like a lovely place for a date night!

One could call this a cozy atmosphere, or a small area of tables very close together. A small menu to choose from, which in my opinion can be nice. My food was good but nothing extraordinary. Service was friendly and accommodating. Overall for me just an 'eh' so-so feeling. On another note, my friend ordered a salad that came with chopped apple in it. The apple was chopped but still had a sticker on it like when you buy fruit/vegetables from the grocery store. Makes me think they don't wash their produce before serving...??? So it had chopped sticker in her salad too... Eww. My friend didn't seem to care and kept eating it. To each his own! Anyway nice place but not sure I will come back.

I've been here a few times for lunch and dinner and it is always 5 star. The patio menu has some delicious stuff on it like the duck wings, pork tacos, and Mediterranean plate. Some lunch stuff that's tasty is the grilled peanut butter and jelly which is a must try for everyone. I'm a big Reuben fan and there's was very good.

Things have not been great the last three times we've gone. They have run out of menu items (its a fairly limited menu to begin with) and the things we've gotten haven't been amazing. Hoping it's going to improve.

I could've swore I had a review of this place up. I don't see it. Anyway, I've been here twice so far. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. From what I remember of my breakfast, the dinner was the better option, but my memory could be fuzzy and I'm writing about my most recent dinner review. I stopped by here for a quick dinner on my own. The weather was gorgeous and I opted to sit on their patio in the afternoon/evening sun. Their food prices are a bit pricey, and I was looking for something smaller, so I stuck with their "small plates" menu. Kinda like tapas. Their tapas menu is pretty decent. I ordered the fish taco and the ahi tuna spring rolls. The food is made right on their patio grill/kitchen area, so it was kinda nice seeing your food being made. The ahi tuna rolls were kinda bland, but their dipping sauce made it better. I'd probably order something else, though. Their fish taco was delicious, though. Grilled tilapia, pico, coleslaw and lime juice. They do it well here and I was really sad I didn't order MORE tacos! My server was a little slow, but I was happy and the food was good. I'll be back.

I've been here for a couple lunches and a dinner before and they never disappoint! Its a cozy restaurant with outdoor seating options and a small grocery/deli section for those who want to shop a little. The atmosphere is calm and a bit rustic. For lunches, their sandwiches are delicious and you get a lot for their price. I always get their mushroom brie soup. I have tried the Gone Fishing, Reuben, Tuna Salad Sandwich, and Wholly Cow. All were great, but if I had to choose then I would never hesitate to order their Tuna Salad Sandwich or Wholly Cow. For dinner, their Roast Duck Breast is a must! Cooked to perfection, not too dry and still tender and juicy slices of duck breast. They cook their brussel sprouts nicely and the entire plate is put together nice with the toasted pecans and dried cranberries. Each component can be eaten separately or together for a mouthful of flavor in each bite. The sweet potato is probably the only part that I didnt care too much for, but it was still alright. My boyfriend also had their Roasted Butternut Squash Raviolis, which were also a delight. It was refreshing in its own way that was not too heavy. He did say they could lay off on the amount of olive oil though because he had quite a bit sitting on the bottom of his plate. There was also a right balance of flavors in this entree. Service is good and the waitresses are friendly. If you're a first time there, dont hesitate to talk to them to ask for a recommendation. I dont think I can look at duck breast the same way ever again after having it from the Wooden Spoon. I dont expect to find another place better in California either - at least not for a while.

We had an amazing lunch here today. Anyone complaining about the prices doesn't appreciate fresh food made from the best ingredients. My husband and I split a cherry festival salad. There was plenty for both of us (he also had a bowl of the mushroom brie soup-excellent). It had wonderful fresh artisan lettuce, dried cranberries and cherries, goat cheese, cashews, and finely julienned granny smith apples. Add to that the tender shredded chicken and the chef's own white vinaigrette dressing. Best salad I've ever had! Did I mention how fresh it all tasted? Perfection!

First off, I would change the price indicator from $$ to $$$. We went here last night and perhaps we were expecting to much. We were seated quickly. We got our drinks in a timely manner, then things really slowed up. Our server over explained the menu, and I felt like I was being talked out of things that we wanted to order. The menu looked wonderful. Several unique dishes we wanted to try. We ordered three appetizers for the table. Gorgonzola stuffed gnocchi ($11) was awesome! My husband enjoyed the Bruschetta ($9) and we also order the chess plate, no meat($5). Very nice selection of cheeses. These were a bit slow to come out, but not bad. Nothing I would be irritated about in isolation. However, we sat with them quite a while before we got our soups and salads. For our main course, two in my party ordered the Wagyu Steak and Potato dish ($25). The server was very accommodating when asked to substitute sides. We also ordered the asparagus mascarpone agnolotti ($21) and meatless mac and cheese ($15). It took forever for these to arrive. I was starting to get frustrated at this point. We also ordered an additional side of Roasted cauliflower ($5). The meat dishes were ordered medium and medium rare, and they both came out medium rare, so we had to send a dish back. The food was tasty and the presentation was beautiful, however, the dishes were served lukewarm. I think our server left the dishes at the window too long. The mac and cheese was definitely the best dish of the night. I also really enjoyed the cauliflower. Finally, we were celebrating a birthday, so we wanted a dessert. We kept trying to get other waitstaff to go find our server (they pretty much flew by us without making eye contact). We waited so long that we almost did not order, but we did because it all looked very nice. We got the hummingbird cake and the chocolate cake. I ordered coffee, which was really not even lukewarm, but cool. The hummingbird cake was definitely 5 stars. The chocolate cake was refrigerated and was very firm. None of us really cared for it. By this time my husband was frustrated, we had theatre tickets at 8PM (about 45 minutes away). We had arrived about 450PM and we were concerned we might not make our show. Overall impression: Anticipointment - great expectations but was disappointed A bit pricey but not bad Service slow, disappeared for long periods of time Presentation was lovely Taste was inconsistent, though would have been better I think if served in a timely manner

I had the BLT with egg and my boyfriend had the turkey with avocado, etc sandwich. Both were delicious sandwiches, but maybe nothing to really write home about. Friendly service. A little expensive for sandwiches and chips.

Like this place. Outside decent food, but one step off of great. The staff is awesome, location good. First dish of summer roll was perfect in it's idea but the raw tuna would do better diced and the carrots were too prominent. The Thai mussels were great and the bread was a good shot but better if the bread was buttered and grilled. And they had added a side to make it special. All in all a good meal

This restaurant is by far the best in Brighton. I visited on Saturday evening and then again this Thursday. Saturday was the busiest I have seen it, but the food and drinks both came out quickly. The food was amazing, I had the pizzetta and the mole. The pizzetta was so surprising - packed a punch with flavor. I enjoyed a top spice margarita while waiting. The bartender was friendly and the drink was fabulous. My experience today was as enjoyable if not more, the patio kitchen was open and the breeze was fabulous. I highly recommend the fish tacos and the wings. Service is top notch, drinks are delightful, and food is fabulous. If you have have read a bad review...don't think twice about it. This place is worth a visit!!!!!

Such delicious food! It's been about 9 months since we were here, but I think I ordered a salad and my mom ordered a sandwich and dessert. We were both more then impressed. :) Everything was very fresh and original. Service was slightly slow.

Love this cozy place... The food is amazing and the atmosphere is great! I have been here three or four times now and each time I have tried a different dish. They have all been fantastic. The mushroom soup is so delicious it's a must have! Service has been exceptional each time as well. Very attentive and friendly wait staff.

Great food, fresh and unique combinations. The mushRoom Brie soup is A+. Even my picky kids found something to enjoy. Very friendly people, but slow service, at lunch at least. Still, clearly a restaurant that takes pride in what it does, so I'm glad we came.

Artisan style foods. Menu changes slightly with new offerings. Pleasantly surprised with new tastes, the food is fresh with local ingredients when possible. love the market inside as well, You can take out a full dinner and warm it at home as well as cold drinks.

I love the food and uniqueness they have and always changing selection. The down side is decor and size. It has probably the best quality food in brighton. Plus it has a food truck.

I have been here only once, and I will definitely be returning! The wild mushroom risotto was cooked perfectly, creamy, and full of flavor. Whether you're in need of a little warmth from a chill in the air, or stress-eating away a crappy day at work or a bad break up, this risotto will fulfill all of your comfort-food needs. The duck lettuce wraps were excellent! Ground duck, veggies, and seasonings, served in a the freshest of lettuce leaves, and topped with a delicious spicy peanut sauce. I also snagged a bite of my husband's BLT. The ingredients were so fresh, and of such good quality, they really go the extra mile to put together a tasty sandwich. Needless to say, I only snagged one bite because he devoured the rest in record time. The only thing I wasn't fond of were the brussels. The server described them as roasted, so I was expecting wilted, crispy, browned, goodness. They came to the table bright green and taste-free. A total yawn, I'd recommend skipping on these. The service was friendly but slow, so bring a side of patience with your appetite.

Unique, local, eclectic... Everything we have been looking for since our move to Livingston county. Amazing foods, great atmosphere and a creative, evolving menu. We LOVE the Wooden Spoon! Their Macaroni & Cheese is to die for, their mushroom and Brie soup is simply the best cheese based soup I've tasted. Amazing every time!

I loved the Wooden Spoon. It really personifies everything that I would consider to be the perfect restaurant for Yelpers. The food is creative, tasty, and very good. All of the ingredients were bought from local farmers and the quality shows. The cooks also seem to have a very healthy appreciation of the usefulness of bacon as an ingredient. Nearly every entree and salad have bacon as a prominent and delicious part of an amazing dish. I had the BLT (complete with fresh bread and fried egg) and it was one of the best BLTs I have ever had. I highly recommend it. The decor is very european and I almost felt like I was in a Parisian cafe (despite the fact that it was December and freezing). Our waitress was very friendly and highly knowledgeable about the meals and the sources of the ingredients. Overall, an amazing restaurant and a must stop for any yelper.

We visited for lunch, and this is -the- right way to do Bistro food. It's simple and great. But everything on the menu, each item and each ingredient on each item has been considered carefully. After one visit it was just slap-you-in-the-face obvious that someone had poured over each detail and asked "Is this the best thing?" and "Is this the best way to do it?". Yes, and yes. Some specifics: She had the mushroom/brie soup and loved it. That was paired with her sandwich of pesto and fresh mozz with a marinara dip (the "Frankly My Dear"). Very simple, and tasted better than you could hope for with such a short list of ingredients. I had the Wholly Cow. It's shaved sirloin, cheddar, balsamic soaked onions and some horseradish spread. Anything weird, shockingly innovative, crazy? Nope. Better than I could have possible anticipated? Yep. Again, just brilliantly selected ingredients in exactly the right amounts in the right combination. Simple and fantastic. The service was friendly and patient. We can't wait to come back and work our way through the other items on the menu that sounded just as good. We'll also be coming back for dinner, confident that if they put this much thought into getting soup and sandwiches perfect, that the dinner offerings are going to be something special too.

Mushroom soup is outstanding. Their sandwiches are great (they use Zingerman's bread)! I enjoy their salads, the fish (always fresh), and the tandoori tenders are delicious as well. Just a really great place to eat. You should try it. =)

  • Alysha M.

The food here is so yummy! Packed with flavor and homemade goodness. Price is high ($11-15 per person), but so worth it! Plenty of vegetarian options too. We went for lunch with our friends and their new baby. The staff was accommodating and understanding. Lunch is mostly salads, soup and sandwiches, but the dinner menu looked great. We must go back and try it! This is a great place to support locally made food.

Seating is small but nice. Read reviews on here thinking it was going to be wonderful. Ordered the mushroom soup that was spoken highly of and it wasn't very good. Both my husband and I ordered sandwiches and neither were very good both sandwiches didn't have hardly and sauce on them. Tried this place once but won't be back too much money for not that good food!

The fish tacos are amazing!!! I'm always bummed it's a seasonal thing, ie., summertime only....really? So my other go to plate is the chicken and risotto. But sometimes on my family take outs I just show up for the pleasant surprises in the cold cooler and pick what looks good for myself while waiting. My experience has always been great and the service same. This place is a gem in Brighton and probably one of my top choices to eat all around.

Really enjoyed our lunch here, definitely a pleasure to find this little gem in Brighton. I had the skirt steak salad, steak was cooked just right and nicely seasoned (a little too fatty) generous portion of greens, loved the polenta croutons. Hubs had the grilled cheese sandwich of the day (Zingerman's bread is always a bonus). Nice blend of cheeses but it needed an additional component, a texture, a condiment, something to take it up a notch. Mushroom soup was creamy, rich, decadent goodness. A suggestion, I'd offer a tomato soup, daily, if you're going to have a daily grilled cheese sandwich special - goes hand in hand. Excellent service. Fun little gourmet shopping area. We'll be back!

  • Teri C.

Nice service, tasty soup.......I do wish they would have had some crackers, croutons, or crusty bread to with the soup, which I found kind of odd. Also I would love to see the menu include a side salad and a few vegan options. But all in all....it was pretty good.

the food is amazing. momofuku style pork buns, perfectly fresh and rare tuna and steak, unbelievable whitefish salad, etc., yum. the cocktails are a miss, the decor is weird, and the service is average, but you will love the food and it will keep you coming back.

We were in Brighton for some personal business on a early-spring Saturday afternoon and got a strong recommendation from the locals to try the "Spoon" for a mid-afternoon lunch. I have been down Grand River in the downtown area many times in the past and have never noticed this place - in fact I drove right past it even knowing roughly where it was located. It is completely non-descript with parking in the back. Once inside, we loved the combo of artisan market-deli/wine bar/bistro - it just felt like we were far, far away from this midwest bedroom community of the Motor City...perhaps in Sausalito or Santa Barbara. The atmosphere in the small dining area came together with a distinct Bohemian-California fresh-creative kind of flare with fresh, mixed media local-Michigan artwork on the yello stucco walls. They had some light jams playing on their sound system that added to the overall experience. This is the kind of haunt that some early, soulful Van Morrison would have worked perfectly. - the tunes were a nice touch for sure!. I could tell just by purusing through the menu that the foodwas about to be equally satisfying. I appreciated the fact that our server was very enthusiastic about the food here and made some great suggestions when she found out it was our first visit. We shared a cup of their daily special cheezeburger soup before devouring the Cherry Festival salad chuck full of cherries, cranberries, whole cashews, granny Smih apples slices, shreaded chicken and their homemade apple cider vinaigrette over fresh leaves. Don't miss it! We then shared the popular "Loafin-a-round" sandwich which caught my eye on the menu when I saw those words "bacon-ketchup" on the ground beef/pork combo on toasted brioche. Fresh red onion and tomato slices further complimented the sandwich. I usually don't spend this many words on a review but this place definitely gets it in the eyes of this foodie. Next time I want to hear Van the Man on the tunes.

Just in Brighton for the night and wanted to try something local rather than the same old chains. The food was excellent! Had the tandoori chicken and fish n' chips tapas, then the chicken breast entree. Service was great as well. Will definitely come back if we are ever in the area for the evening again.

So people we knew had been raving about this place - we figured we had better try it out. We opted to sit on the patio which was pleasant & ordered the green chile enchiladas with the mushroom brie soup. The soup was phenomenal - the enchiladas were super dry. Overall I was happy with the place but certainly not blown away.

I rely on yelpers a lot when I'm traveling, and a am never let down. I was traveling between Detroit and Lansing and got hungry for lunch. This unassuming place was fantastic. Located along a commercial strip of big box stores and chain eateries, The Wooden Spoon is just a few traffic lights from the highway and worth the minor diversion. I had the cherry festival salad, and it was among the most flavorful meals I have had. It fueled me for the busy afternoon ahead, but didn't slow me down. The cherries were perfectly ripe, with just enough sour to complement the shredded chicken. I was with a coworker who had the soup of the day, and he ordered a carryout bowl to bring along for dinner. If you are in the area, or just passing through (like me), I highly recommend finding this place and enjoying a great meal, great service, and great atmosphere.

Wait staff is almost always attentive and the sandwiches are great, although a little bit pricey for what you get. Their Cubano sandwich is fantastic. Their sides are lacking though; you can swap out your side of a literal bag of potato chips for a cup of fruit, and that's about it. The aura of the place is a little conflicted (is this a general store or a place to eat?) but overall that's not enough to deter me from going there.

Stopped by this cute little restaurant when I was in Michigan on a very rainy but warm day. Didn't think much of it at first since this was a random restaurant we happened to drop while we were driving around. The look and feel inside was pretty homey and they had some outdoor seating that had some tables that were situated away from the pouring rain. We decided we wanted to sit outside because it was a very warm day. We started out our meal with their signature mushroom and brie soup and wow! it was so tasty and really complimented the weather. For my main entree I got the tuna nicoise salad (seared rare ahi tuna with a sherry vinaigrette) and my boyfriend got a "gone fishing" sandwich which was smoked salmon, fontina cheese and avocado on an Italian bread. Everything was cooked just right and the service was great! I loved that he was always refilling our water and coffee and making sure that we were doing fine. I probably will go back here when I go to Michigan again, I want to try their other selections!

This is the freshest, most thoughtful food in Brighton. We come to town for skating events and always try to work in a meal here. We were the last party through the door last night and the service was still as wo derail as it as been when we were the first! Our foursome tried: Meatloaf and blt sandwiches, both stellar, high quality ingredients and just enough out-of- the-ordinary elements without losing their roots. I addicted to the cherry festival salad, so same thing for me everything. The standout of the night was the ravioli! Omg! Complete with lightly fried cheesecake in the middle. And this is a lighter dish than I can describe e in words here. Amazing. Btw, the Brie and mushroom soup came with that and was equally tasty. If you're in a rush, try the carry out. We have had amazing meals in the car thanks to wooden spoon!

Ate here with a friend last weekend. Sorry, but thought it was just ok. My friend asked for a diet soda with caffeine. They have coke, but not diet coke. The waitress suggested the diet orange because it had caffeine. My friend ordered it and read the bottle once it came to the table. The bottle clearly said "caffeine free'. She still wanted something with caffeine and the waitress recommended green tea. Green tea has very little, if any caffeine so my friend ordered a coffee. Not that this means the service was bad, and maybe it was the waitresses first day, but she didn't know much about the items available. We both ordered a salad, which were very filling. My friend said the apple cider dressing was good. The home made ranch was very bland. We both also ordered the grilled cheese with pesto. The sandwiches were very good! We at on a Saturday at 11:30. It was starting to get busy when we ordered our food. Service was very slow. A couple of people on yelp compared this to the French Laundry, but sorry, it's not nearly as good. There are several other places in Brighton to eat. I don't think I'd be back.

We are loyal patrons of Stillwater and this was our first time here. I can't believe we have waited this long. Most sophisticated and delicious menu of anywhere in the county by far. Amazing meal and service. Our new favorite place.

My new favorite little spot in town. Went for dinner. The Wodden spoon is a small intimate setting with maybe 15 tables. Wait staff were really nice. On the night we went there, there was a live guitar player. Music was nice, not too loud. There is also a small store with fresh counter take out. For the sit down, they have small plates that are meant to have multiple ordered and shared or entrees that come with salad. Ordered three small plates for two people and it was the perfect amount. You can tell thought goes into each option with fresh ingredients. Waitress said they change the menu options often. Prices on the higher end, but worth it. Drink menu has lots of original options. One of the drinks I ordered was the gingerale orange margarita. Best margarita I have had in a long time. Plan on returning in the summer to sit outside and have a few of those.

Not impressed...over priced, food lacked flavor and the bartender was the worst I have encountered in years. We arrived at 7:30pm...granted we did not have a reservation but was willing to wait the 20 minutes they said it would be. While waiting we were asked by a young lady if we would like any drinks, we said yes, a bloody mary and mojito. She then said OK, you willhave to wait for the bartender...my thought...why did you even ask. So, the bartender returned and asked us for our drink order we told him and he said we willhave to wait as he has 12 drinks to make ahead of us. After waiting for about 15 minutes another couple walked in behind us...he asked them for their drink order, I jumped in saying we are still waiting for ours. He then took ours and made ours drinks which ended up being less than par. We were then seated and returned our drinks and went with beer and wine.....fingured he could not mess those driks up. We ordered several small plates...one which was suppose to be naan bread which was just a pita and several other's that were less than desired. Chicken was dry and none flavorful. I will say the desserts were great; however, found out later than are not made onsite. I travel for a leaving and eat out all the time so, feel like I am a good judge and to be honest this is my least favorite eatery in Brighton. I will not recommend this establishment to anone.

Best food in Livingston County hands down. The menu changes constantly and I've never had a bad meal. Their Cubano sandwich is delicious.

This is a very cute little place in Brighton. The food is good; a slightly limited menu - at least for lunch. The vegan desserts leave a lot to be desired and a bad aftertaste! I don't recommend those at all. But there's a nice vibe in the place; I hope they'll make it.

Very rarely do I find a restaurant that I TRULY enjoy. This is one of them. With their ever changing menu with fresh ingredients to their laid back yet trendy atmosphere, you can't beat this place. (At least in Livingston County) Their Macaroni and cheese is wonderful, especially when you add in a bottle of their delicious wine!

The Wooden Spoon is just fantastic. Each meal is made to order so it's easy to customize if you have any food allergies. Everything I've had is delicious, the ambiance is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. Try the duck, and a unique cocktail! This place is truly a hidden jem.

Welcome addition of unique flavors and ingredients for the Brighton crowd. Short Rib Mole is a show stopper the green chile polenta is great. Would get this dish every time. Server Mary was attentive and knew menu. Spicy margarita was interesting. Had to wait for inside seating even with reservation.

The appetizers were really good. Our table had the pork belly and the gnocchi. Entrées were mediocre. Duck was bland. Very expensive. Terrible service.

Best restaurant in Brighton! It is so delicious. We have so many favorites, not to mention we have been in three times this past week. We love the pulled pork tacos, pork belly momo buns, mac and cheese, brie mushroom soup, all the sandwiches are tasty. They have a large variety of unique bottled drinks and a great bristot latte! We will back again next week. Kid friendly too.

I had lunch here the other day and it was wonderful. I think my sandwich was called the California...something California. It was basically a caprese salad sandwich, but a delicious one.

This is one of my favorite spots to eat in town. I was skeptical, not usually one for completely organic granola type restaurants, this one isn't what I thought at all! It has some of the most original, fresh menu ideas any time of day! If you don't want to dine in, they make box lunches that are made daily and something different pending on the day. Besides an amazing healthy menu, it has one of the best local beer menus in the state. For breakfast, try the Mexican standoff. Be sure to try the Mushroom Brie soup, any time of day. This will be one of my favorites for a long time to come.

FINALLY! A restaurant in Brighton with something to offer (save Sushi Zen; they also have it going on)... flavor bursting everywhere, fresh ingredients, something different than Chicken Parm and something-or-another in Alfredo sauce on the menu. This place pleases the palate from start to finish... I'm an oyster kinda-connoisseur and ordered on a whim only to be shocked that this tiny joint had the tasteful selection it did and to discover they were better than any Oakland county wannabe fish houses... And that was just to start. It got me thinking seriously about the rest of their menu and our party of three started eagerly ordering... Tuna roll, deviled egg with lobster, duck (yum), salmon salad, fresh fish (crispy walleye, locally raised) and scallops... All were amazing. And don't forget the drinks: Yes, they can do an old fashioned. And a very nice dirty martini ("we'd be happy to stuff those olives"). All together, a 5 for food hands down. The only reason I give it a 4? Slow. Very slow. And if we were in Italy, I'd say 5 because that would be European. But alas, we are not. If they just touch up the speed (but not the service itself... polite, but real), you have a 5 here. A gem.

I'm a regular here for lunch. I enjoy their Greek Salad as well as the Vegan Hummus Wrap and the Vegan Curry, when it's available. The wine selection is pretty nice as well, however sometimes the pours clearly aren't 5 ounces, and I think for the price, it's important to make sure that they are. The lack of Vegetarian / Vegan options that they offer is sometimes disappointing. It has gotten much better since they first opened, but I think that at least one of the daily soups should always be vegan. Sadly, their dinner menu is lacking greatly in vegan options so I haven't been able to enjoy it. I wish they would focus on expanding their menu for all dietary types because it is a fabulous restaurant and would only increase their business. Finally, the service isn't always the greatest, but I do LOVE Carrie as a server. She is the best and I always try to sit in her section. All in all, probably the best restaurant in Brighton.

Perhaps I need to try their entrees to get a better picture (I will update if I do), but I was quite disappointed with the lunch food here as I was extremely excited to try this place. It was really bustling and busy. Don't know if it was because of the holidays nearing, but I'm not so sure what the hype is after eating here. I ordered a petite cubano sandwich, cup of their famed mushroom Brie soup, and an iced tea. The sandwich was 3-4 inches long (does this justify $8?) though the meat in it was decently significant...perhaps a stack of 1-2" of meat and filling. Though there was a nice amount of shaved Dearborn ham, it didn't necessarily uplift the roasted pork, though salted well, still rather bland and not the robust Cuban flavorful pork I had a month ago (sorry, the Tampa talking in me again). The major disappointment for me was the mushroom Brie soup ($4.5 for small cup) everyone talks so highly of. Just too much cream, not enough mushroom flavor, and too much...sherry? I ate it cos it was edible, but have had better in so many other places...even at the crocks of takeout soup at Westborn Market which would be 1/2 the cost for a larger portion...The croutons laid on top were indelibly salty as well...was I supposed to slur this in with the soup and wait for the saltiness to dissolve in the soup? Another point was the iced tea was...there. I've been to places with a nice strong freshly brewed flavor. This was, well, I might as well have ordered water rather than $2.50 iced tea. The server was extremely pleasant and really on top of everything which is a nice point. I will attempt another time, but for dinner. My DH has been scarred by our dining experiences here in Brighton, so I might have to go at it alone again to experiment and find places for us, but then again, I might be scarred as much as he. Yes, we've been tough on restaurants here in Brighton, but we've had so much more flavorful food elsewhere for the fraction of the cost of this area that we can't really justify eating in our hometown. I guess we'll continue to make the 15 minute or more journey to get good food.

This is a cool little spot in downtown Brighton worth checking out. They've got a nice variety of odds and ends for cooking, but the real reason you come here is for their own food. The cole slaw is badass, probably my favorite thing there. The sandwiches you can order in are pretty good too, but I love the deli counter. They're trying to stock a good amount of craft beers, but nothing they carry is really hard to find. Wish they'd carry some more difficult to find stuff! They also carry Zingerman's bread, and quite a few of them too. Sure beats the drive down to Ann Arbor and fighting with the hellish parking down there.

We came based on other yelp recommendations, and we were not disappointed. This place has been open for about a year. I will it's a little tough to spot, it's on the west side of the road. So it has an outdoor patio and an inside market and the restaurant sort of raps itself around the market. There are daily specials and some unique options. So we had a couple of the grilled specials, almost a small plates or tappis option. I had the fish taco, which was a grouper with slaw and salsa. It was good, but not great - I wish the fish was crispier and it needed either a creme fresh or avocado to enhance its creamiest. I also went with the Korean BBQ ribs which were very good. For the main entry, I went with the caprizze salad, which they did their own spin on. This restaurant is trying to use local foods, so I assume the ingredients for the salad were from the area. The salad was OK, but it wasn't a traditional caprizze - there was no basil, it was replaced with cucumber and the tomatoes were not a beef steak, but rather a plum. The mozzarella was very good, light and salty. The wife halibut cheeks on lobster and Morell. Rossitto , which she thought was outstanding and sold her on coming back to try more of the menu.

Great food....seriously this is one of the best restaurants I've been to in the Ann Arbor area. It's a short drive North and so very worth it! They support Michigan grown/made food, beer and spirits, which I love. Highly recommend the any of the small plates on the patio, inside try the scallops or the mac n' cheese (it has yummy bacon)! Ask about the drink specials, you won't be disappointed. (The Blue Mule- blueberry vodka, blueberries, basil and ginger...wow)

Had lunch here this past week for three. Two of us had the soup of the day, tomato basil which was hot and tasty. We ordered a latte, a cappuccino, a crock madame, a reuben with corned beef and a frankly my dear. I was disappointed in my cappuccino as it was froth on a cup of coffee, no expresso to kick the drink up a notch. We sat in the room to the front of the building and it was a cold day. We arrived just as the restaurant was opening. The room was a bit cold and subsequent other diners asked for the heat to be increased as we did. Our server was pleasant and helpful. I was a bit disappointed in my reuben as it lacked "spunk"-how does one make a bland corned beef? I think it must be the baby swiss that does not add as much flavor as a traditional swiss. The others were happy with their selections. The portions for a "full" were enough that all of us took home half of our selections. In addition we were offered fruit vs. the bag of potato chips. The location is clean and well maintained. A pleasant interlude will follow if you visit this location. There is a large take out counter that offers items not on the menu. Probably a destination if you are too tired to make a meal for the evening. Consider stopping on your way home.

Fresh, local, great addition to the Brighton dining scene. Staff is engaged and focused on the experience. They have a raw bar on weekends that is a must for any fresh seafood loving people. The outdoor patio is a hit - live acoustic music, outdoor grill, relaxed atmosphere. Don't miss the deli/store to pick up great salads, sandwiches, and unique foodsuffs!

Very good food! Thanks, Yelpers, for recommending the Old #7--sounded so bizarre but it was ah maz ing. (Pickled blueberries?! Whaaaa?) My friend got the bahn mi and loved it too. The service was fine, just not very attentive--she never came back to check on us after our food came and was just not around for 15-20 min after serving the sandwiches. It wasn't very busy at 1 pm on a Saturday, so it wasn't busyness that was the problem!

I just left The Wooden Spoon and was SO disappointed! I have been there for lunch several times, had great experiences and have recommended the restaurant to many people. This was my first time in for dinner and it was terrible! For an appetizer we ordered the muscles which were less than impressive, bland and boring- we only ate about a quarter of the dish. For an entree I ordered the halibut special which was so bad I only had a few bites. The other people I was with ordered the lackered duck which was fine at best, but very undercooked. The third dish ordered was the short ribs which was good. The service was below par and there were only two tables inside, so I can't imagine how it would go with a full restaurant. Overall, I was so disappointed- they should stick to their cute sandwich & soda lunch and not risk loosing frequent customers to their less than stellar (and overpriced) dinners.

Upon arriving in Brighton, my family was dying to take me to The Wooden Spoon. I am VERY glad they did! The Wooden Spoon is a very unique restaurant that doubles as a fresh market as well, where you can buy breads, meats, sides, pasta, etc. We were seated quickly and our server was the best server I have had in a LONG time! She was very attentive and super nice! My parents ordered the Cuban and the Ultimate BLT which were both out of this world! The BLT had extremely thick cut bacon on it and the bread was obviously very fresh. I ordered the grilled cheese special of the day which was on great bread and had salami in it, and I got a cup of tomato soup to accompany the grilled cheese. The soup was amazing and a great fit for the grilled cheese. The beer selection was also very impressive for this type of restaurant. I was very glad to find such a great place so close to my family's house and I will DEFINITELY be returning next time I am in Brighton!

This rating is based primarily on the service and not the food. I came here once before with a girlfriend but didn't post a review. Our server that day was a bit meh, but the food was very good - I even posted pics - and I figured she may have been having an off day or something so when hubs and I had a day to ourselves I convinced him to drive out to Brighton to try the joint (a good 45 min drive for us). Bad idea. Low and behold we got the same server, but the service was worse than the first time. Let me preface this with the fact that my initial visit was in early Feb so about 6 months have passed - enough time to, assuming that you are a new employee, get it together. Here are my gripes: 1. Seems one of the specials for the day was to create your own grilled cheese in which you mark a paper menu dictating what you would like. Our greeting was "Hi, do you want pencils for the grilled cheese?" Ummm...do you have a name? 2. This restaurant has what they call a lunchbox of the day in which they put together a little package so to speak; a sandwich, salad, dessert, etc... She didn't bother to tell us about it. Not only that, but after we ordered our meal (disasterous ordering detailed below) we heard all of the servers telling their tables about the soup of the day, lunchbox deal, etc... We didn't get any of that. 3. The Wooden Spoon has a counter area that has meats, pastas, salads, etc.. that are sold by weight. You can purchase those as opposed to or in conjuntion with items on the menu. The ravioli with roasted veggies (located at the counter) looked good, but I have a mushroom allergy so when she returned to take our order I asked if it contained mushrooms. Her response was "I don't know." As I continued to stare at her she said she could go find out. Hmmm...making me feel like it's a chore for you. She returned and stated that she had looked at it and that it didn't look to have mushrooms and that nobody else thought it did either. Gotta say it concerned me a bit that there was so much iffyness in the answer. I asked if it was filled with cheese (was worried that there were mushrooms inside), and her answer was "I think so." Okay, whatever. I went back up to the counter to look for something else. She followed me (weird) and I stated to her in front of the counter staff that I was concerned about her not really knowing about the mushrooms. She turned to the young lady behind the counter and asked if it had mushrooms to which the young lady replied "ask the chef - he made it this morning" OMG - THIS WAS SO EASY - DID YOU EVER REALLY EVEN ASK IN THE FIRST PLACE??? 4. Husband wanted the kielbasa. In the display case it had potato salad shown with it. He asked if the potato salad came as a side to the kielbasa. She said, "I don't know....I don't think so." Sigh. Again? Either it does or it doesn't. He just wanted to know if he needed to order a separate side of some sort. She then looked at him and said, "do you want to go up and ask them?" I thought my husband was going to lose it - and he doesn't get upset about things like that. He said, "no, I don't want to go do it. I'm here for lunch. Why don't YOU go and do it?" She got all flustered and started rambling about how she would go ask how many pieces of kielbasa come in the meal. That wasn't even the question. Having to then tell her again that we just wanted to know if it came with a side or was a la cart just made the whole thing awkward. We so rarely get to go out together alone that this experience was soooo disappointing. If you are a restaurant that prides themselves in having different items on the menu whether it be daily, weekly, monthly then you need to make sure that your servers know what is on that menu, how it is prepared, and what accompanies it. I don't know if this part was the fault of the establishment or the server for not remembering. However, forgetting or not knowing I can easily forgive, but don't make me feel bad about you having to go get the information, or even worse, ask the customer to go get the information himself. For what it's worth, I did get the pasta (no mushrooms), but it was lukewarm. My husband's brussel sprouts were slightly undercooked but the kielbasa was quite yummy.

Great food, great service. We tried the Mushroom Brie soup and is was very good. The Signature Mac & Cheese was excellent and the service was outstanding. We tried the Duck Slider and it was better than the Kobe Beef Slider on onion roll with cooked onions. . A little like a market just serving some of their hot food selections. I can go 4 stars.

I've been here three times, and it's the best restaurant I know of within at least 20 miles. Cuban Sandwich: I'm a native Miamian and have been eating Cuban food my whole life, so I can say with authority that this sandwich is not quite authentic. The bread is not pale Cuban bread, it's more like a mahogany French and I think it's an improvement. The ham and the pork were subtly different than what you'd get in Little Havana (neither surprising nor a problem). The swiss cheese was better. So it's not exactly authentic, it's better than authentic (mostly because of the bread) and if they went on sale on Calle Ocho a lot of folks would not be having lunch at the Versailles. Oh yeah, it wasn't grilled in a press like a real Cuban, so that gets demerits... but still a very good sandwich. Asian Salmon Salad: Each element was very fresh and well prepped. The dressing had a good bite of fresh ginger and dark sesame oil. The salmon was a cooked medium-well, overcooked for my taste but not to the point of being dry, and certainly better than 99% of the places you might go to. Old #7 Sandwich: An odd-sounding combination that works very, very well. I love it. Ravioli Della Roma: This is excellent. The asparagus-mascarpone is delicately flavored, with hints of lemon zest, and pairs well with the toasted notes of the tomato coulis, the slight earthiness of the spinach and the sweet acidity of the onion jam. My wife thought the goat cheese croquette was a bit much and preferred to leave it aside, but I thought that it cranked the dish to eleven. The Mushroom soup is very good, rich and meaty. One of the desserts was a chocolate cake thing... Rio something-or-other. The flavor was very good, but I wasn't crazy about some of the textures. The mousse filing was a bit grainy with sugar, and the cake was a bit dry for my taste. The ganache was very good. And one thing worth honorable mention: nothing suffered from the horrid oversalting that is so common. I don't know what's with these places that ruin good dishes by making them 5% salt, but they all need to take a lesson from the Chef at the Wooden Spoon.

This place was great. Not so much the seating area which was quite plain, and small if you are going at a busy time of day. decent sized outdoor seating space. Got the chicken salad sandwich and it was fantastic. I don't normally like large/gigantic chunked chicken on a sandwich, but the flavor, tenderness, and the fantastic bakery bread made this a great sandwich. Just would have liked more than one small piece of lettuce. Didn't really like the bagged chips that came with it; always prefer fries. Did like the sample of house mushroom soup, so much so we ordered a cup to split. Have forgotten what hubby got but he loved it too, and he didn't mind the chips. Will return as often as possible. Service was outstanding, attentive and friendly. not a great deal of vegetarian selections. they do serve a sunday brunch which i don't think the website stated. was advised to get there before the church crowd.

the wife and I stopped in for lunch. All I can say is wow. The mushroom soup A+++++. I ordered the calamari sandwich. AMAZING. The wife had half a chicken salad sand (better) than most and a cup of the asparagus soup. Very good but nowhere near as good as the mushroom. A little pricy for lunch, but real high quality. Top notch.

My husband and I went here over the summer. We had never been there before but it always looked good so we decided to try it. We went in and stood there waiting to be seated. The waitstaff kept walking past us so finally we asked to be seated. Five minutes or so passed and someone finally came to the table to welcome us and get our drinks. We both got waters. We looked at the menu and were not too impressed by the prices and the selections but still decided to give it a try. We then waited for another 10-15 minutes. We still didn't have our waters. We got fed up and started walking out and on the way out we saw our waiter with his sunglasses on having fun with the people outside and with the rest of the waitstaff. He looks at us and says, "You are leaving"?? Like it came as a big shock. We said yes and that we were taking our business elsewhere.

I would give it a 2.5. Went for lunch and ordered the brie and mushroom soup because of the recommendations. It was a little bland, but the croutons were good. We ordered sandwiches and salads, and none of us were very impressed. It was not bad, but it was not as great as all the reviews are all about. It was cute inside, and waitress was friendly. I appreciate that it is healthy and probably one of the better restaurants in Brighton, but quite disappointing.

If you have not tried the Wooden Spoon yet, you need to go there quickly. You will be thrilled by their high quality ingredients and thoughtful service. I went here for lunch one day when it was still warm and sat outside to enjoy my meal. I had their grilled cheese of the day. That day it was a great cheddar, with (if memory serves me correctly) pine nuts, pesto, cranberries and on sourdough bread. It was great and you got a (glass) bottle of a detroit made flavored soda and a bag of yummy specialty chips. I also had a lovely piece of blueberry buckle....so good! I went there a week or 2 ago and got some takeout consisting of a huge piece (I had 2 meals from this) of chicken and spinach lasagna. They added some sauce (without me asking) and packed it up for me to enjoy at home. They also cut some fresh sourdough bread for me to enjoy with the lasagna. Good place and we need to support them! Go and check out their constantly changing selections in their case for takeout. I look forward to trying more of their lovely offerings. Oh and I believe they now serve beer and wine.

Holy cow I am excited about this place. Since Taorello's closed there has been no place to get specialty foods in Brighton. I have eaten or gotten take out from Wooden Spoon four times now and each time it has been fantastic - salads, sandwiches, and a seafood stew were all of the best ingredients and very fresh. Not too expensive for lunch, the dinner entrees are a little pricier, but for what you get, I still think it is a reasonable deal. No liquor license right now, but we got around that with take out the other day and wine at home :) Nice folks, too. Highly recommended

This is a cute place. They should take down the flat screen TVs; they don't fit. The rest of the atmosphere is relaxed and cute and comfortable. I like what they're trying to do with local foods and such. My sandwich was not remarkable (turkey, bacon, etc...) . However, my sister's sandwich (brie, pickled (yes pickled!) blueberries, etc...) was probably the best sandwich I've ever sampled. Typically she would not have eaten both halves but because it was so delicious, she devoured it in it;s entirety. Zingerman's bread is always great, they have a prepared food / deli area which is great, and looks like a good place to purchase a gift for your 'foodie' friend.

My husband and I came to Brighton today to visit with family and wanted to have lunch beforehand. I checked Yelp and The Wooden Spoon had great reviews so we decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly delighted with this wonderful restaurant. Everyone was very friendly, especially our server, who was impeccable. I ordered their signature soup, wild mushroom & brie and a half rueben sandwich. The soup was wonderful. The corned beef on my rueben was under-seasoned and gristly in some spots, therefore couldn't be finished. My husband ordered their half size cherry festival salad. I tried it too, and it was delicious, however a couple pieces of the chicken had some gristle and there were two lettuce head ends mixed in that were inedible. Otherwise it was a very delightful dining experience. They try and use local ingredients whenever possible, which we appreciate. We had coffee from Saugatuck and a very delicious Earl Grey tea. For dessert, I had a slice of carrot cake, which was very good. We will definitely be coming back. I'd love to try their dinner menu too!

This is a cute little place with a sign out by the road that completely fails to draw anybody in. I had no idea there was a restaurant here until I started yelping for a slightly-upscale place to take the wife on our first anniversary. You go in, there's a raw bar (I think?), then a small European-styled market, then a small section for eating. For the space they have, I thought they were doing too much with too little, but if it works for them, good for them I guess The food is priced a little higher-scale than most, but you actually get unique cuisine made from local seasonal ingredients. It's not terribly upscale in setting, however, as drinks come in glass jars and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's also not one of those places you pay through the nose and then get 2 bites of food. For the price, the portions were adequate, not too much and not too little - this is not a complaint. We both decided since we didn't want to overstuff ourselves, that we'd get a couple of mixed drinks, a couple of the sandwiches, and a duck roll appetizer (the appetizer pushed it slightly over the edge of too much food). The drinks were alright, but not worth the money (this is how I usually feel regardless of where I'm at), the appetizer wasn't what I expected, but it was delicious regardless. The sandwiches were also delicious and were pretty well-designed concepts. We plan on coming back here after we close on our house to celebrate again. For the unique ever-changing selection you get here, it's worth a visit if you're tired of the usual sameness you see everywhere else. The eating area is small for reasons I discussed above, so you might have to call in reservations on a weekend if you want a table. Otherwise, quite happy with the quality of food, menu selection, atmosphere, etc. We didn't tell them it was our anniversary and we had a blast regardless.

I don't know where to start listing all the things I liked about this restaurant. Ambience - awesome! Waitstaff - Attentive and nice! Menu - Completely different and fresh! Food - Absolutely amazing. From the fish taco and coney dog appetizers, to the Pan roasted chicken with risotto, everything was prepared perfectly. Some of the pairings I questioned, like the mascapone and asparagus ravioli - but it is pure culinary genius. Price - ehhh..it's expensive, but very worth it!

Every menu item we've tried at dinner is fantastic. Highly recommend the Duck and the Mac & Cheese. Try the deli case for take out, also a small grocery and catering. They have craft beers, wine and mixed drinks.

Nice place and the food was good. I would try it again but it would not be a high priority.

Very high quality, fresh, local fare. A little pricy but definitely worth it. I went on a beautiful day and sat on the patio, which was a pleasant bonus. I'll be going back the next time I'm in the Brighton area.

Great Atmosphere, Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Menu was creative. Wine list simple, yet nicely done with great values. Carry out looked appetizing. Rick in the Raw Bar was great. The best part was the food. Never had a better sweetbreads (better than my grandmother's). Something Brighton really needed.

My opinion of The Wooden Spoon has drastically decreased. I posted an average review a few months back (3 stars) with an explanation of my review. However, I see The Wooden Spoon has selected what reviews (the highest rated) they would like to appear on this page, while filtering any reviews that are not to their liking. Don't waste your time reviewing The Wooden Spoon unless it's a 4 or 5 star review. Before I would have given this restaurant another chance, but knowing they can't constructive criticism will ensure I never go back.
