There's just really very little to criticize about this place. Good service, brightly lit and fun interior, with interesting and well made food. It's always somewhere that gets us smiling if we're on our way there. The basic concept is this: they source high quality sausages from both local (Corridor) and nationwide vendors, then add their own interesting takes. The type of buns used are matched appropriately to the different 'dogs, and the toppings are always freshly made (you'll see them making them in front of you, sometimes to order). Here's what we've had over the course of a couple trips: - Chicago dog. It sticks to the basics, which, in this case, is the right/only decision. They've got the celery salt, the bright green relish, the sport peppers, etc., so they seem to be doing it right. - Szechuan duck sasuage (weekly special). It wasn't particularly spicy, which wasn't what I'd assume given the name. But the flavors from the blood orange, yogurt and green onion worked very well with the mild asian and ducky tones. One note: the 'dog was served with whole slices of blood orange, which you were expected to squeeze over the rest. They weren't pickled/edible slices, or anything like that. Just an FYI that some of their garnishes are not meant to be eaten! - Vietnamese chicken sausage. If anyone's had Corridor's pleasantly-spicy and aromatic vietnamese sausage down at Eastern Market, this is the same stuff. Atomic's version is paired with some cooling pickled vegetables and sweet sauce, and it all goes down really nicely. - BBQ hog dog. A split, nicely-charred 'dog, freshly made cole slaw, pulled pork, sweet BBQ sauce. Really filling, and really awesome. - Flynn/buffalo dog (weekly special). I don't think that was the exact name, but the basic idea was a spicy, buffalo-saucy tasting 'dog, with blue cheese sauce, apple, celery, carrot, and melted cheese. Pretty messy, but it all pretty much worked. Probably the weakest thing we've had there. - Russian dog. basic hot dog, with fresh cole slaw, russian dressing and a couple other accoutrements. My dining partner was obsessed with it. For drinks, I don't believe they serve booze (it's basically a lunch place, anyway), but they've got a fantastic selection of bottled, cane-sugar sodas and other soft drinks, and they'll do milkshakes and malts as well. This is an old-fashioned, made-to-order diner experience, with some really interesting twists. Definitely give it a shot.

What a Cool Local Jewel! I visited for the first time today and the service was amazing and fast. I truly appreciate the fact that all of my food was freshly prepaid upon ordering and I love that all the items they use are locally sourced. Some are complaining about the price I honestly felt the prices were in line with the service and quality of food I received. I have spent way more on way worse! I had the Chicago Dawg and the Swanky Franky- a hotdog wrapped in BACON!!! What more can I say! the Chicago Slips were so good they remind me of the Rainbow chips that Better Made makes, I got a side of cheese to go with the Chicago Slips soo good! Cant wait to go back and try other selections. This is a great place for a lunch date, I love the relaxed decor too. It it worth the trip!

This place rocks! Oh man some of the best dogs and sausages I've ever had. Deliciousness! A must have Hula Dawg!!!

Bacon wrapped dog, chilli cheese, and chicago dogs were all amazing. The jalapeno lava cheddar sauce too. And to top it off they got that good ice with the little tiny pieces.

I have visited twice. Chicago dawg was good. Good snap. Good poppy seed bun. Their 'D' chili dawg doesn't work for me. The chili sauce is more of a ground beef sauce. The Italian sausage was fine. It is of the sweet, not spicy, variety. For some reason, I was expecting spicy. My fault. Chocolate milkshake was made using hard-frozen ice cream. It was blended to death. Not chocolate-y enough. Super, super creamy. No texture whatsoever. I prefer my milkshakes with a bit of texture. Service can be quite frenzy'd. I was the 11th customer ... from the time I walked thru the door and up to the register (no one ahead of me) ordered & received 2 dogs to-go ... 29 minutes elapsed. They didn't include any napkins. I didn't think to check for, or request napkins. Overall; I prefer Hippo's dawgs, (speedy) service and prices.

Mmm'Boy! That was doggone good eatin... seems the quality at Atomic Dawg is finally in the upper stratosphere. The right amount of burn on it too. Belisimo Chef Gary, Delicio'so. 3 final words; mm, mmm, Good!

Had a quick lunch here and was not overly impressed. The 'atomic dog' i got (which is a split and grilled hot dog with one topping of your choice- I got chili) was very good. The chili was tasty and well proportioned, with a little mustard added on top... mmmmm. The chicago dog was very very disappointing. Not only did the dog fall through the bottom of the bun when I picked it up for the first bite, but every aspect of it reminded me of the Franksantra hot dog stand at home depot. For a 'boutique' hot dog place, I expect better than that disgusting green, overly dyed relish. I'm hopeful for the other menu items as they appear original and quite tasty. With the proximity I'll definitely be back, but not for that 'chicago dog'.

Waaayyy over priced, and trying to hard to be different. Served on old, dry bun that falls apart making it impossible to eat your $7 dog. Not sure why they prefer serving dry potato chips over fries, but it only takes a few minutes here to realize that if you want to try this place, you should do it quickly. It won't be around long with food quality like this.

Went here today for a UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) with some other Yelp Elite peeps. It *would* have been 5 out of 5 stars for me except it took about 40 minutes for our food to be delivered. The place wasn't really crowded either. Other than that, though, the food was DELICIOUS. I got the Chicago Dawg with the sports peppers on the side (and thank goodness I did, I tried one and they are HOT! The lady at the counter said mild hotness, maybe I just have no tolerance though ...) and the Slips (potato chips - delivered hot from the oven, yum!). I also got a cream soda. The place is a little pricey - 1 hot dogs + the chips + a drink was about $9 - but the food is very, very good. It's located in downtown Berkley (I didn't even know Berkley HAD a downtown) and has a tiny parking lot in back plus there is (free!) street parking. I'd come here again, I want to try their "dawg" that has the pulled pork topping - similar to Imperial in Ferndale, it seems. The chicago dawg was great, another tiny gripe is that the bun was falling apart as I was eating it (aka, don't come here on a date, lol, as things got messy) but food quality is good. I LOVE potato chips that are chewy, too, and that's what you get here. A few in our group got the fried pickles on a stick, which also looked good (and $1.39 too, so it's not a bad deal). I want to try one of those next time too.

Vegetarian options available! I was craving a veggie dog but the guys at the grill recommended the veggie burgers because they are house made (the dogs are smart dog brand). The onions and buttered buns gave them that awesome slider taste, felt less guilty as it was loaded with lettuce, tomato and pickle (gotta get those veggies in). The burger, chickpea/bulgar based was kind of crispy like a hashbrown- yum! The staff was so friendly, everyone individually came to ask me if I liked my veg burgers! Answer- very much so!

Solid dogs here. - Chicago Dog: Sports peppers on the Chicago Dog were a little hotter, they had clearly matured more than the usual sport pepper given their fairly large size. Bun fell apart a bit, but that aside a super solid Chicago dog. - The D: Classic coney, not much to describe here. All I can say is it was on point. Would return here before any local coney to get my fix. - Benicio del Toro: Chorizo house made sausage was fell of spice and flavor. The bun unfortunately was severely oversized, which made for mostly bread in your bite. The romaine lettuce, pico, queso fresco, and salsa verde weren't really noticeable at all. Fried and Regular McClures pickle on a stick. So good, no notes required. Excited to return one day for some of their creative dogs. Lots of beverage options, was nice to see such a big Dr. Browns line up.

Another UYE at someplace new! Stopped at Atomic Dawg for lunch with a group of Yelp Peeps. Parking was a little small, I'm lucky I found a stall. At the entrance on the ground floor you order your food. Servers find you & your number and deliver your meal. Tables on the 2d & 3d floor to dine. Ordered the swanky franky (bacon, jalapeno cheddar) sans cheese- it became just a bacon wrapped hot dog. Also got the Chicago slips (home made potato chips) with a side of chili & diet Vernors. Total cost - $10.70. Not bad for a specialty hot dog with sides. And catching up with Yelp Peeps is always fun! One of these days I'll do a review before Liz P does! Will repeat and recommend!

I love this colorful little joint! Everyone that works here is so friendly, I felt like I was in SLC, surrounded by the Latter Day Saints folk (who, I maintain to this day, are the friendliest people on the planet.) (Disclaimer: no idea what anyone's religious affiliation is, nor does it matter. I just tangent a lot.) The chitchat w/ the cashier, the smiles, the chef who prepared my dawg who has the most excellently wild hair. So much win. These fine folk here can make ANYTHING ON THE MENU VEGETARIAN! Sounds simple, but do you know how many places don't or refuse to offer this simple service? So it's really easy to mess up a Smart Dog brand soy dog (let's be honest...it's not the easiest, tastiest canvas to work with.) NOPE, not a problem here at all. I have never had a better veggie dog when I ordered the Mambo King minus the bacon and jalapeno sausage. The best part?! What usually costs $7.20, in all its meaty glory, only cost $4 and some change in its veggie reincarnation! That's what I call a smart and fair business...again, not something all businesses do. (I've paid full price for "minus the meat" entrees elsewhere that were definitely not worth it.) The VEGGIE Mambo King was so good, I plan on coming back and eating my way through every single item on the menu...something I don't often get to do! Thanks, Atomic Dawg crew! You are wonderful!

I called with a seriously 10 second question and was put on hold for 15 minutes. I had to eventually hang up since I really don't have the time to stay on hold for that long. If they would have taken the time to at least ask what I was calling about before they forgot about my call, it would have seriously taken 30 seconds. I'm fuming right now. Edit. I ended up going anyway because my boyfriend really wanted a hot dog. I thought maybe they were busy and that's why I was on hold for forever, NOPE. Only ones there. Than 14$ for 2 average hot dogs and 2 pops. So NOT worth it.

After two visits I'm ready for my third and many more. The second wasn't as good, but I think it was a fluke and willing to experiment more menu items. I had to try their Chicago Dawg with mustard, onions, tomatoes, sport peppers, pickle spears, and green relish on a poppy seed bun. It's a Chicago dawg alright. It had all the right toppings, trimmings, flavor and attitude. It's also served picture perfect. The sweetness, spiciness, and tanginess is the perfect Bermuda triangle for you to get lost in the dog. I swear to you, you'll be ordering more before you can leave. Although it didn't top the Chicago, the BBQ Hog Dawg is a grilled dawg topped with pulled pork, Canadian slaw, and homemade BBQ sauce. Just saying the ingredients make me salivate. The pork is super tender. The chef said that it's cooked and pulled all in-house, taking 12 hours to make. It is so soft and juicy, you'll love it. The BBQ sauce is made in-house as well. Its tangy and sweet, probably not enough on the dawg. It's good so it would be nice to dig into more of it. They probably would have given me more if I asked being as nice as they are in there. I made a point to go back since the first visit was a success. The Russian Dawg was decent, but not as special as the first two. It lacks the more explosive flavor compared to the others. It has a more muted flavor profile. The big disappointment was the turkey and red mole sausage from Corridor Sausage. These are my absolute favorite sausages in flavor and that they are made locally. The problem was that it was severely over cooked. It was unfortunately dried up and shrunken. The cooked clearly over cooked it. No worries, the isolated incident has not deterred me at all. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Oh where is Komyasha whem you need him. This is the best Hot Dog place in the entire state. The coney dog is a picture of perfect ,.the chilli you can get on the side is wow. The reason Why I did not give this a 5 because they do not put celery salt on their Chicago Dog , the price, and the odd hours. PS get the Benico Del Toro dog.

Delicious great price and interesting options. Atomic dawgs delivers interesting and creative dining options of the traditional hot dog dining experience. One can get a simple hot dog and add some interesting toppings like fried egg, peppers, etc. I had the atomic dog which just offers one free toping for 3.33. Dogs are grilled, split and perfectly crunchy and had these nice grill marks. The only slight issue was the egg no longer was runny it was over medium. This fast casual joint has interesting seating options as it seemed like it used to be a house. I would recommend sitting in the area up the stairs if you don't want the smell of hot dog to linger in your clothes as they don't have a vent. They are limited in drink options. They only offer bottled drinks in their cooler and ice tea. So no fountain drinks.

Solid four stars. Hot dogs are inventive and delicious. I usually get the Hula Dawg, with pineapple and cherry mayo, and it's absolutely wonderful. My husband gets an Italian sausage and loves it. Also, fried pickles! And Mexican cokes in glass bottles! The staff is super-friendly, but not annoying--will serve you with a smile, then leave you be. The only gripe I have with these folks is their silly hours. From not being open on Sunday to closing at 7 pm the rest of the week (which essentially eliminates them for dinner, not that I should be eating hot dogs for dinner, but still), to random closings around holidays (July 5, really?), to "we randomly close an hour early today to throw a party for our employees." Enough to take away a star, I think.

Don't buy the hype. This place is way overrated. We tried a variety of hot dogs there, but they all disappointed. They couldn't even get a coney right. I would rather go to costco and get a hot dog there, since it's both tastier and cheaper. This place could not challenge the downtown Lafayette or American Coney Islands or even a Kirby's for that matter. I've had Hot Doug's in Chicago before it closed and this place does not even come close even though it looks like a complete copycat. I will never be back.

I guess Good Friday allowed me to order quickly w no line. My order came up quickly. I only ordered one Chicago Dawg carryout just to get a taste. Will try more esp. the sausage and lamb one sounded tasty. They hve a weekly special added menu item. Pro: good tasty beef natural casing dog, all the correct toppings, toppings were fresh, poppy bun very solid. Con: dawg a bit small but normal size so not out of the ordinary (I dislike 1/4 lb. huge dogs anyway), hot dog was warm but not hot, didnt taste grilled taste as much as I hoped. Sausage items a bit pricey but sometimes u hve to pay for quality. Verdict: I will be back. I enjoyed the dog immensely. Will stick to Chicago mostly but will try others. And want to try the sausages esp. the lamb one. Update: Went back a second time. Chicago dawg. Tasty again. I did get it split and grilled this time. I noticed celery salt which I dont remember if it was put on the first time. Good traditional addition. Also, my one fear happened this time, some of the bun got soggy. Not sure if from the veggies...Dawg was still good.

We were pleasantly suprised by this little hole in the wall. For a hot dog joint, service is painfully slow, but the end product is good. The Chicago dog was well balanced and had just the right amount of toppings (I usually end up throwing out half the bun with hot dogs, but I ate this one. The fried McClure pickles were delish, as were the slips.

I was in the area for a dinner and has a bit of time to kill so I decided to pop into Atomic Dog to see what it was all about. Once I stopped in I was lured by the delicious smells, the awesome sounding menu, and my inability to ever say no to a hot dog. Despite having a dinner coming up in just a few hours I decided to get a dog. I am so weak. Good thing, though! Because I found a really stellar hot dog joint. The menu varies from plain hot dogs to more regional specialties like the Chicago Dawg (mustard, onions, tomatoes, peppers, pickles and green relish), the Milwaukee Dawg (canadian slaw and mustard) and the local The D (a traditional coney dog). Plus some funkier styles like the Kingston (pineapple mango sauce and jalapeno sauce). They also carry inventive sausages like a lamb and fig sausage and a chicken and turkey mole sausage with guacamole and chipotle cream. And a sausage of the week that features other fun and unique combinations. Not a hot dog fan? That's okay. They've also got burgers (veggie option available), chili and a 6 cheese grilled cheese sandwich. Sides feature housemade chips, a pickle on a stick, and coleslaw. For bevvys there's Dr. Brown's and Stewarts sodas and other more mainstream carbonated options in cans and bottles (Coke, Fanta, etc). Being a bit of an onion nut these days I went for the Manhattan Dawg--sautéed onions and mustard. It was fantastic. The hot dog had a great snap, the onions were perfectly caramelized and the yellow mustard leant a bit of tang to the whole thing. I could have eaten two but I did manage to exhibit SOME self control. ;) There's plenty of seating inside, with a half level above the kitchen area with lots of tables and chairs. I came at weird time of the day (around 4pm) so it was too late for lunch, too early for dinner and it was pretty quiet. The staff was REALLY friendly and attentive. Like, constantly checking on me to the point where they apologized for it! I said "trust me, I would rather have a nice staff who makes sure I'm doing ok than one that ignores me." And that's the truth! Great customer service. Looking forward to my next visit already. The next time I'll come with no place to be and room for one of their awesome looking shakes or floats for dessert.

What a cool place - lots of character, great food, quality ingredients. I brought my daughters here today and we had such a fun lunch. Everyone finished their meals - loved the ample seating, high chairs, and it felt very clean and fresh - bathrooms too. Love the little tiny kitchen up front. We will be back; thanks for the great meal.

Luck of the draw that I found this place. Once inside, it has a feel like you are in a major city like Chicago or New York. The small menu makes it easy to order and I love seeing Town Club and Faygo being served. I ordered the pulled pork dawg, well actually I let the chef and counter person order for me. Along with the dawg I had homemade chips with chili and cheese. I really enjoyed coming here. Great atmosphere and food.

The D is probably the best coney dog I've had from anywhere and their fresh cut chips were top notch also.

So, let me start by saying that I really enjoy a hotdog every once in a while. I prefer if said hotdog is top notch. Well I found a joint in Berkley that serves up just that. I am writing my review after my second time eating here. Even though the first time was good it took two trips to get the full experience. My first time all my food was hot and fresh but not exactly something I would normally order but it sounded good at the time so I gave it a shot. Everything was so fresh and well prepared that I felt I needed to try this place one moe time before writing this review. Let me tell you how good these dogs are. They have the perfect taste texture and the all important snap when you take a bite. Covered with super fresh toppings, this is a recipe for success. They have plenty of dogs to choose from as well as a few sandwiches and sides. Drinks consist of pop in cans or bottles or if you like shakes and floats. Super tasty, super fresh, super awesome. Give Atomic Dog a try soon.

Walked down to Atomic Dog to satiate an insane craving for a beef frank with chili and cheese. Definitely did not disappoint! Cool crew. Cool options. Super fresh. How the heck did I miss the fried pickles though?!?! Next time...

Love this place great y unique variety of of the hot dog I can't pic a favorite me and my hubby stopped in and was greeted with very friendly and helpful customer service, since it was are first visit they were extremely patient in helping us to make a decision and what was really popular on the menu. Well we tried the Hula Dawg, Russian Dawg (one w/ slaw other saurcrout) , BBQ Dawg, Manhattan Dawg, homemade chips and o e of the specialty sodas and all was so good love the cute dining area they are a bit pricey for a hot dog but your definately not just getting an ordinary dog, creative gourmet for sure! with the best hot dogs and toppings we spent about $35 that's because we like to try everything.

Best hot dog / sausage place around. They got way more than your standard hot dogs. It's worth the trip. Like the Chicago Slips as well, homemade potato chips.

  • Erin K.

YUM! I have been here two times so far and I love it! They have a decent sized fun menu and even though the parking is limited and the place looks small, there is plenty of seating inside. So far I had a Sausage of the Week (unfortunately I can't remember what it was, but trust me, it was fantastic!) and the Swanky Franky (grilled Atomic wrapped with bourbon smoked bacon and topped with jalapeno lava cheddar). I cannot wait to go back to try the Hula Dawg (teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple, grilled onions, lettuce and Japanese cherry mayo). Also, be sure to order the McClure's deep fried pickles, they were great!

Reinventing hot dogs seems to be the trendy thing in a lot of cities these days, and Atomic Dawg fills the void in the area. Walking in, I was worried because the seating is tiny, and the place was packed during lunch time, especially with what looked like high school kids from across the seat. I was pleasantly surprised to see the upstairs, which has two bigger rooms for more seating. I kind of feel like it used to be an old house or something. Three people working during the rush created a bit of a hectic atmosphere, but one of the girls profusely apologized for the wait every chance she could, which was nice (although not necessary). Finally, we settled on three dogs, and I'd rate them in this order: the Kingston (for pineapple mango sauce/jalapeno concoction, although I would've preferred the sweet pineapple chunks to have been grilled because it was cold against the rest of the warm dog), the D (traditional coney dog) and the New York (we just weren't a fan of the Italian sausage). The D is the only one to come on a traditional hot dog bun, while the other came on more of a sub-type roll. There are a lot more interesting hot dogs on the menu (Szechuan duck, anyone?) that'll keep me coming back for more.

I actually feel badly that I haven't been here more. It is really close and I really love it. The proprietor is so into this place and the idea of it. He is on the grill all the time. He is a really great dude too, sharing his love of the hot dog to all of the nice people. You can totally feel that love, man. Most importantly, it shows in the food. It also shows in building itself. Super clean and just a cool space. I need to get here more, you should too.

Great place to get a dog! The Manhattan Dog is the epitome of a hot dog for me. Grilled onions, mustard, steamed bun, and an amazing snap on that dog! They do not have fries but have slips, thick handmade chips. I was hesitant about these at first, but then I couldn't stop eating them! Great place overall!

I was bicycling by the rather unprepossessing place when I spotted their daily special: Mister Peanut Goes to Thailand. Who could resist that? Turned out to be a Thai free curry sausage on a bun topped with cucumber salad and peanut sauce, and it was delicious. The ambiance is friendly, the hostess is charming, and the prices are right. There's plenty of variety, including a "Sausage of the Week" from the Corridor Sausage Company. Even the regular sausages are way out of the ordinary. How about a Laikon, which consists of the lamb and fig sausage with tomatoes, red onion and cucumber salad, and tzatziki? It's Greektown in a bun! They've got 11 different "dawgs" here, all using all-beef hot dogs, as well as sausages, mini-burgers, shakes, coolers, sides (try the potato chips made fresh to order!) and more. I plan on returning soon to try the Kingston Dawg, which features pineapple mango sauce and jalapeño sauce, and their Canadian Slaw.

Hell a Yeah! Just get here! Had a "Swanky Franky" (bacon + cheese) and a "Russian Dawg" (slaw and melted Swiss). So good It's a cool place - the staff is friendly!

The grilled cheese is probably the best I've ever had. It's made with 6 different kinds of cheese on Texas Toast with roma tomatoes and thin pickle slices on the side. They also have homemade potato slips (chips) which were really good dipped in their chili. For dessert we split the Southern Fried Apple Pie and it was delicious. It was hot and gooey on the inside and crispy with almost a donut taste to the crust. It wasn't overly sweet, it was a perfect dessert without being overwhelming. They also have a large variety of hotdogs that are amazing. And don't let the outside fool you, this is no tiny diner, they have a huge eating area upstairs. It's roomy and well lit with a cool retro vibe and 50s rock n roll playing in the background.

Atomic Dawg has a great location and a really cool building with equally interesting seating that includes a small upstairs dining area and a lone table near the front door. When I ordered, I planned on walking those dogs home so I didn't explore past the main area but I liked this joints layout. When they were making my order I noticed it was under controlled chaos with 4 employees including the chef trying to work out a cohesion. My order took about ten minutes. I ordered a Chicago, the D (straight up Detroit style Coney) and a Hula dog along with a Boston Cooler (Vernor's and vanilla ice cream float) to go. The Chicago was pretty good with that neon green relish that was sweeter than I've had before - the tomatoes could've been riper though. The "D" was fantastic. The homemade chili was really really good and the dog was filled to it's limit almost maxing out the styrofoam doghouse they packed it in. The Hula dog on the other hand was unfortunately, cooked to death too charred for even me and while I like the concept I wasn't into the Terriyaki that sogged out the bun or the sad lettuce the dog laid on. I did love the red onion and the grilled pineapple though. The Boston Cooler had some freezer burned ice cream that tasted past it's prime so I didn't finish it but all in all an A-OK spot for specialty dogs.

A very good overall experience. Very friendly people who helped me navigate the menu since it was my first time there. I ordered the standard Atomic Dawg with the house chili and Lava Cheese sauce and a side of Chicago Slips and a 7-Up in a glass bottle. Food came out quickly and was nice & hot. Will return to explore more of the menu.
