I've been here a few times when visiting the family in Midland and have always been impressed. They have been very accommodating of my kid (1.5 years old) and the service has been friendly and attentive. This is not a fast restaurant, so don't expect to get out quickly, especially if you go for apps/meal/dessert/wine. The desserts are so so good and they have an extensive wine list. They do not have a dedicated kid's menu, so my son usually eats an appetizer as his meal.

This was our fourth time dining at Shari's. The previous three would all rate 5 stars for dining and service. Atmosphere is what it is, the old Willard Hilton. This time the service was terrible. Extremely slow. My peanut crusted steak came as over cooked medallions with a few chopped peanuts on top with a dab of Wasabi sauce. Menu description was very misleading A nearby diner had a seafood trio. He questioned the waiter about the seabass not being quite right. The waiter informed him that they had run out of sea bass and made a substitution. Probably should have let him know beforehand. Maybe just a bad night but it will be a while before we go back. I also agree with others that the prices are too high for what you get.

We had high expectations and found ourselves very disappointed. My fish was over cooked and when our food came so did the flies. There was nothing special about anything we ate and we will never go back.

My ultimate favorite place in the tri cities. This is our go-to place for any important celebration; not very kid friendly, but I always bring my kids who behave super well and they get to eat good food (not the crappy food from a typical 'children's menu'). The food is fantastic, always delicious, and the atmosphere is romantic. Very classy.

I have always enjoyed Shari's. Their wine tasting and special dinners are always an event worth making. Other reviews have mentioned the great food and changing menu but the wine list is very good too. I was surprised to see a Cabernet Franc on the wine list (my new favorite). Nice job, keep up the good work.

My wife and I visited here on a Thursday evening for dinner before a concert at the Midland Center for the Arts. When we arrived the restaurant was basically empty however the host said he needed to see what there was available. I can certainly understand this if there are a lot of pending reservations for that evening but as the night progressed is clear that there were not. This is probably our fifth or sixth visit to this restaurant in the past 5 years that every time we arrive, whether we have reservations or not they seem to be in a bit of a disarray as if they are surprised that there are actual customers. I know this restaurant is very highly retarded by many people in the tri-cities area and it certainly does offer a number of dishes and ingredients that you would typically find in a fine dining restaurant and available therefore in only a small number of other restaurants in the area. However good ingredients are only the beginning of a good restaurant. The decor of the restaurant both outside and in is truly very poor. The dining room that we were in featured lighting from fluorescent wall fixtures which is perhaps more energy efficient but certainly not setting the tone that this restaurant seeks to achieve. Our server stumbled through the presentation of the available specials and he was unclear in several cases what the accompaniments were to some of the entrees. Although at that time we were one of two parties in the restaurant it was more than half an hour from order to the first appearance of our appetizers neither of which involves any sort of long cooking time. The menu itself while it contains a number of higher end ingredients such as rack of lamb, scallops, certain species of fish and so forth, I would say that more than 75% of the preparations involve some sort of a fruit or otherwise sweet component. This is fine to a limited degree but when so many dishes on the menu are presented that way it can make it difficult to choose if you are looking for something that is hitting on more of the savory notes. I ordered what was described on the menu as rack of lamb and while it certainly did appear to be a fairly high quality protein the rack itself had been sliced either by the restaurant or the supplier into individual chops before they were roasted. I was not asked by the server what temperature I would like it served at and it ended up medium plus. My wife ordered a salmon dish and the salmon itself was overcooked. However the strangest part of it is that while it was described in the menu is having an egg on top (which is something that we both enjoy when it is a poached egg and you break the yoke and it becomes part of the sauce) what ended up arriving on the table was a salmon dish on top of pasta with a fried egg on top where the yolk was barely even running at that point. Of course all of this may seem like nitpicking to some readers. However when you are playing or attempting to play in this fine dining space these are the types of things that separate a mediocre or disappointing restaurant from one that is truly a dining experience. The problem here is that the prices are so high that it's very difficult to forgive some of these inconsistentcies. At the end of the day it's simply a little bit disappointing that a restaurant with such aspirations, with such a good reputation in the area, and which starts off with such high quality ingredients can end up presenting a dining experience like this. We're certainly willing to try again maybe in 6 months or so and to see how things work out but for now this ended up being or rather disappointing dinner.

I was very excited to try Shari's but left disappointed. The food was just OK. The monkfish was cooked well but covered in a lot of butter and the sides were plated so closely together that they mixed resulting in the flavor profiles, which didn't complement one another, blending. The broccoli was covered in chopped red peppers which completely took away any broccoli flavor. My husband's steak came out covered in sauce that was not included in the dish description on the menu and he asked to get another one without sauce. The second one was dry, flavorless and tough (maybe that's why there was so much sauce on it to begin with?). The best thing of the night as the roasted garlic infused oil that was served with the bread. For $80-$100 for two people, I expected food that didn't require tons of sauce and butter in order to have flavor. The service, however, was worse than the food. Our waitress was very unhelpful in explaining anything about the menu or telling us what came with the main dishes. The menu did not have any details, so I had hoped that the waitress would provide an explanation. She seemed annoyed when I asked what side dishes were available to order and said that there are "three sides that come with all the main dishes." She then did not tell us what the three sides were. When the amuse bouche came out, I asked if it had meat in it because I don't eat meat, only seafood, and she said "I'm not sure, I don't think so." She walked away and didn't come back for 15 minutes, and when she did she hadn't asked what the amuse bouche was made out of so neither of us ate it. She also seemed annoyed when my husband asked for another steak not covered in sauce because "all steaks have a demi glace," like it was our fault for not knowing this even though it wasn't included in the description on the menu. She did come back to check on the table a few times and each time stated "I would ask how everything is going but I'm sure its fine" and left without actually asking if we needed anything or how we thought the meal was. The only person who was helpful was a very friendly man who I would describe as "front of the house," who came over to fill our waters and asked if we needed anything else a couple times. By that point in the dinner, the waitress had made us feel so uncomfortable that I just wanted to pay the bill and get out of there.

I've only had the pleasure of dining at Shari's once but it couldn't have been better. Everything was excellent. The meal is pricey, as fine dining usually is, but worth the cost. The atmosphere is romantic, many small dining rooms...intimate. I have to save my pennies to dine there again. I mos def WILL. Ask for a vegeatarian menu if you're a plant eater.

Four star local. Three star national. Shari is one of the fine dining restaurants in midland. You can compare it to Mollys and the Table. These three restaurants serve similar food but they are unique in their own way. Molly's has live music (and Molly does enjoy her singing). Shari has local arts on display. And the Table was simply classy in the decor and service. I like Shari the best of these three restaurants. The menu is more creative than that of sharia and the Table. It is also quiet and it's great for conversation. There at also local arts to enjoy. Between the appertizer and the entree there is a small serving of sorbet to refresh your taste buds that I always enjoy. The restaurant is too small for a big wedding but if you have a small party (less than 70) it's a reasonable place to do it. They also do catering. the selection looks great but I have not had their catering service that myself.

Shari is the best restaurant we've found in the Bay City/Auburn Area. They're going for the fine dining scene and they are almost spot on. The food fits the bill, but the atmosphere is a bit dated. Give them the benefit of the doubt on decor and focus on the food, its excellent. The menu is diverse and mixes modern and classical techniques. Wine list is pretty expansive and reasonable. We had an '04 French Syrah for only $38. Great deal that paired well with everything we had. Don't miss out on the desserts either, amazing!! Five star for the area.

I'm sorry but this restaurant is way over priced for the quality of food you get. Listen, I'm all about dining, but I am not about paying thirty dollars for a fifteen dollar entree. The food is "okay" at best. Just don't expect to be blown away by anything but the bill.

The mood is eclectic silly and the food eclectic super. The escargot was wonderful in a sweet garlic cream sauce. I'd have it every time. One if the specials was beef bourginon was very flavorful with the wine forward and a rich finish.
