Castle In the Country Bed & Breakfast Inn

We stayed in the Sir Lancelot room. It had such a beautiful view and the room was perfect, just like the pictures! It was really enjoyable to walk through the woods and take the paddle boat on the lake. Breakfast was delicious both day that we stayed. It is a quiet and romantic atmosphere. We loved it!
Very Disappointed...Very Overpriced. Staff not honest about travel times to Holland, Saugatuck, Holland and such. Plan on 45 - 50 minutes to get anywhere! Not the 20 - 30 minutes they will tell you. The SPA packages are way overpriced...go to the Four Season if you want a real SPA. The room was clean but needs updating...the rooms should be priced about $125-$149 not anywhere close to where they are marked. Buyer beware...
This is the perfect place to isolate yourself from the hustle and bustle of the city and life's stresses. Castle in the Country is a wonderful bed and breakfast! The rooms are so modern, yet cozy. The Bo & I stayed in the Camelot Suite and it was such a relaxing stay. The jacuzzi in this suite was amazing! Not to mention the rustic scenery and walking trails! Ruth, the innkeeper, made us a wonderful breakfast! The meal topped off what was a beautiful romantic stay in Allegan, MI. There is not much sightseeing to do in this area, but if you want some quality alone time and the atmosphere to do so, then this is your go-to place for sure. We heard that there is a very good restaurant called Salt of the Earth nearby, but we couldn't try it since it was closed. We decided to pack some easy to assemble Italian eats for our dinner. I made some pickled peppers and onions, and bought pate, cured Italian meats, sesame & rice crackers, cheeses, and red & white wines from Whole Food's and the People's Food Co-op in Ann Arbor. I got some great smoked peppercorn gouda, cambozola, brie, & mozzarella. The B&B also has a microwave that we used to heat up our ravioli. There was also a small fridge where we could keep our wine & left over food as well! The Bo and I cannot wait until our next visit!

U.P. North Sandwich & Pasty

Reviews:
You call this a pasty? Any Pasty in the LP I'm suspicious. My gandma is a yooper and a Finn, and she knows her pastys, and has a strong opinion about them. "the Finns improved on the Cornish Pasty," she will always say. A real Pasty needs rutabaga. I took her here to see what she thought, and she was not impressed. I wasn't either. I have had a salad on occasion, or a greasy ruben. Take it from the Finn, if you want a great pasty you're going to have to head north.
Kept driving by wondering what this place was, and knowing I still had to try a Pasty (can't live in MI not trying one!), we finally dropped in. We were also pleasantly surprised as other reviews here have noted- the food has a real home made feel to it - nothing chain store 'ish' and not to greasy or sugary etc. It felt like eating good food at a friends. The pasty was real hearty and filling, nothing overpowering, gravy was subtle and tasty (not just some salty mess). I don't like gravy much, but this one was nice. Also had one of the house special sausage sandwiches which was great too. Prices were great, service was friendly - a great little place to grab simple tasty food. They have some fun little MI treats you can buy up front too. Skip out on subway, check these guys out!
My grandfather came over from Finland when he was 18 years old and settled in the U.P. This is the closest anyone has made a pasty like I used to have them with the family. I don't put gravy on it and typically just get one to go for lunch. For ~$5, I'm filled for lunch and into dinner time. Very good food! I've been going everyday during my work on-sites for lunch.

Reviews:
We have had lunch at Minnie's twice since new management took over, and have had a pleasant experience both times. The food is fairly basic, but it is well-prepared and presented, and they offer homemade pies and soups daily. We especially liked the attentive wait staff, who go out of their way to be of service, and add a homey feel to the place. Four of us ate there the last time in town, and each had a different dish, with good reactions from all.
I easy here many times a month for breakfast and sometimes lunch. The waitstaff is excellent. The food is good and the pies are awesome.
I came for lunch. The food was so so, and the kitchen also mesed up my order. I won't come back for lunch, but I might give their breakfast a chance.

Good sandwich. They put extra cheese on when you ask. I'm glad they don't have drive through, not sure how that would work. I guess you would order bred drive forward 6 inches then order the meat then drive 6 inches forward then order vegetables and so on.... They always take care of the lines of people in a fast orderly manner.

A nice small town restaurant with really good burgers. There is really nothing special about this place as far as the decor goes. It is a simple looking place that does look a bit tired. It has the usual drop down ceiling, hanging lights and fans. A small salad bar sits in the front corner but it is a one stop only salad bar. I didn't get it but my wife did and she was very happy with the selection and taste. She also got the Philly Cheese-steak sandwich which she raved about. I didn't have a taste as I was busy with a VERY good bacon cheese burger. They offer various sizes on the burgers and I went in the middle. I can only imagine how filling the big one is. So to be short and sweet I give the decor a 2 star and the food a 4 star (out of 5) rating in the small restaurant category. If I'm in the area again I will definitely stop in again.
I had breakfast here this AM and will agree with others about the decor. It is a little shabby. Has a small salad bar for dinner. My breakfast was greasy. I had eggs, American fries and toast. My eggs were passable but the American fries were greasy and I asked for medium. My toast was half burnt and soggy with lots of margarine. The best thing about this place is the waitress's. They are wonderful and friendly. Coffee keeps coming from them constantly.
What a charming little diner! Traveling through town and stopped for lunch. Best Bacon Cheeseburger EVER. We Found out the owners grind their own beef . Very tasty. The waitstaff was friendly, and knowlegeble about the surrounding attractions. Be sure to have a piece of dark chocolate frosted home made cake.

I tend to frequent this Subway for lunch. Overall the food seems to always meet the standard subway quality standards. The restaurant is consistently clean and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Several of the lunchtime staff have worked in this particular restaurant for a long time and they do a great job of delivering quick, friendly service even during their daily lunch rush.
