We had breakfast. The food was good. The service was good!!! I was unsure this was the right choice for breakfast since it is a bar that had a banner out front showing they had recently started serving breakfast.... The decor was clean & seemed well kept. Coffee was good! Plenty of parking!

Had the breakfast buffet on the weekend recently - awesome egg and omelet station. The Alden Bar also has good pizza, burgers, and the fish and chips basket is another great choice.

Awesome service, my waitress recommended great public beach space in the area that was secluded and relaxing and the fried fish basket was generous and very good. Local beer selection was a little lacking but I enjoyed my experience on the outdoor deck for lunch

My boyfriend and I came here after about an hour of searching the area on a cold winter Monday night for some drinks and good food. We got here at around 8:30 pm, and it was pretty dead. They don't have a cocktail menu, so I had them make me something fruity, and it was actually good. Our waitress was really nice, so that helped. The menu was pathetic. They barely had anything on it, about 5 or 6 appetizers, 3 salads, 4 kinds of burgers, 4 or 5 different kinds of wraps, 3 hot subs, or pizza. I had extreme difficulty finding something that I wanted. We started off with the jalapeño poppers, they were sub par. The flavor of the breading tasted like it came frozen from a grocery store, and the jalapeños inside were almost un-chewable. The marinara sauce wasn't very good. We then ordered a couple of burgers, 11 dollars for a 1/3 pound burger with bacon and cheese after ordering fries... talk about pricey! It would have been worth the price if the burger's bun wasn't similar to wonder bread and was immediately so soggy that my entire burger fell apart and I basically had to eat it with a spoon. The fries were shoestring like mcdonalds, but good. Don't drink the water, it tastes like it came straight out of the toilet. We then got some beer, which was alright, bellaire brown on tap, can't go wrong with that. We played a game of pool which was fine. The only upside to this adventure was that our waitress was very nice, but other than that, I will definitely not be returning to this place. Maybe it's different in the summer, but that doesn't explain the bad tasting water, the burger's bun, the sub-par poppers, and how over-priced the food was.

My family and I started coming up to this part of Michigan over 50 years ago; I only make it up every few years now, but in many ways, the region is even better than I remember it back in the 60's. Had never been in Alden much, but when we stopped here back in (maybe) 2001 or so, we came in here for a cold beer and a light snack. Service was friendly, but what I remember most was the ambience of this place...the dark, knotty pine walls, the old-fashioned feel...it seemed like something you'd see on that old TV show Northern Exposure. They had an old wooden shuffleboard table. There was even a 1959 Ford Galaxie parked in the lot out front -- it was like going back in a time machine! But back to 2015. Alden is a little picture-book town, and I was determined to stop in here for a beer. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this place has been remodeled, so let me start with that. Like a lot of things, you could say something was lost, and something was gained. The current place is brighter, much more spacious, and I'm sure more capable of handling larger crowds. At the same time, it lost a lot of the character that made it special for me. There's still knotty-pine on the walls, but it's all bright and new-looking...I'm sure it will look just fine when it darkens in about 30 years or so. Overall, though--the place now has more of a "restaurant" feel than a "bar" feel; and this guy just preferred the latter. Okay [said the old guy] now you can get off my lawn! In any case, I did enjoy a tasty Bell's Two-Hearted ale, which was served ice cold and with a smile by our friendly bartender. She also made my wife a chocolate martini--though she wasn't absolutely positive about the ingredients, she listened patiently while my wife explained what should go in the shaker. According to my wife, it tasted just fine. We didn't get a chance to eat here, but the menu looks great and the food I saw that other people had ordered looked pretty good. The place still has the old shuffleboard table (the bar top kinda looks like it was made from one) and there is popcorn (not sure if it's free; none was offered). All in all, still a nice place that deserves a visit.

Saw this place last year while walking around Alden. Stopped in to eat this time and we were pleasantly surprised. Wide open interior. Shuffleboard table. Couple of video games. Small soup and salad bar. Not very busy when we entered but filled up by the time we left. Very friendly staff. I got the soup and salad bar. New England clam chowder and chili were the soup choices. Chowder was very good with more ingredients in it than I have seen at 4 star joints. Salad bar was pretty decent for a small place. All the ingredients were fresh with no spoilage. My wife ordered a burger that she enjoyed. Nicely priced. Would go back.

It's a clean dive bar and that's all it's supposed to be, I guess. A group of us went on a Friday night and I was surprised to see the place pretty much empty. There was a few people coming and going and one other group there. Friday nights are karaoke night which made the drinks 25¢ more than they usually are. The guy running the "entertainment" drank the whole time and kept saying "cha cha cha chia" into the mic. It was easy to see that he was there every Friday night, as was everyone else in the place. We ordered nachos and they were pretty delicious! The waitress was nice and attentive until our table was cleared and we were just having drinks, then she hung out with her friends.

Pretty typical bar food . . sweet potato fries, actually crispy, other food good, not special. The night we visited, we had an exceptionally friendly server, who kept the popcorn coming, and kept us informed as to when the food would arrive. Fun place to have a beer and hang out with friends.

Hard to beat!!! Excellent burger (my favorite is the bacon & bleu), fries or sweet potato fries are great, and beer is cold! Bloody Mary's are great, margaritas, too! Sit on the outside deck or inside....they do allow smoking outside, off of the deck, so be prepared if you're sitting outside and folks move off the deck onto the grass to smoke! Otherwise, a great neighborhood place, and worth the drive!

If you are looking for the local local, this is it. They're currently undergoing renovations, but the casual, friendly atmosphere remains. Generous cocktails, good beers in cold glasses, and indifferent bar food in the classic American style. Plus SHUFFLEBOARD! C'MON, SHUFFLEBOARD!!! The staff makes n00bs feel like locals. There are events every night of the week, ranging from Euchre to Karaoke, with live music on the weekends. The blues band playing tonight is seriously quite good by any standard.

Big Cold Beers, Huge cheese Burgers, great Pizza, friendly staff and a lot of fun. Renovations are done and this place is a fun local bar. If you are looking for a night club or a concert, keep looking. But for a place to grab a burger and a beer and BS for a couple hours, this is it.
