This is by far the BEST sandwich place I've been to in West Michigan. The bread is freshly baked and amazing. I'm the type of person who could eat bread all day long given the perfect conditions - fresh, soft, and flavorful. The rye bread here definitely met all requirements. I got the Reuben sandwich on rye and could not put the sandwich down. The portions are huge as you really shouldn't finish off an entire sandwich in one sitting but I most definitely did. The corned beef was tasty, but not too salty, and sauerkraut was just the perfect amount of sour. They didn't overdo it on the Thousand Island sauce which most places do. I've been to this establishment twice and it hasn't failed me yet. It feels like a nice homey sandwich shop but I'm told they serve dinner as well. If you're looking for a delicious sandwich place, I would highly recommend!!

We love this place. Don't be fooled by the description as a deli and coffee bar. You can have a good deli lunch here- it's true. It is our fave local for dinner or for happy hour. They serve consistently good American food with a choice of casual or more upmarket fare. Jeff's meatloaf is delicious but we have had a great risotto with scallops and bacon and other specials that change regularly. They do a nice Black and Blue burger and great choice of salads which you can have with salmon, grilled chicken or shrimp if wanted. We love the calamari which is sautéed with garlic, chilli and fresh avocado. There is always a buzz to the atmosphere and Mark does a great job behind the bar. I have one thing I'd like changed which is the French fries- wish they changed from skinny ones to fat ones. But don't let that stop you trying it.

Despite getting past the hostess our dinner was awesome. Great bartender's, Server was delightful, manager attentive. The food was amazing, nice variety in entrees, sauces were unbelievable. We will be back

I've been coming here since I was a kid.. my dad owned the jewelry store up the road and I would come here every weekend. I moved out of state and visit this restaurant each time I come back.

Food was decent, but not as good as it used to be. The sandwich I got was pretty dry. Service was terrible. The cashier serving us stopped in the middle of my order to speak with a coworker - when she returned to my order, she didn't even apologize. Found it very rude. When we were served our food, the server just placed everything at one end of the table without telling which sandwich was which. Workers were not courteous, often busy chatting amongst themselves. Probably will choose a better place in downtown Ada next time.

Schnitz has an awesome selection of deli sandwiches. The "half" sandwich is actually what most would consider a whole (2 whole pieces of bread) and the "whole" sandwich just has more meat on it. However, I ate dinner on the sit down restaurant side last week and was really disappointed. I ordered the chicken marsala. The portion was small and the piece of chicken I got was not of the highest quality. Also the potatoes tasted like dirt. Maybe they didn't get washed?? If you go stick to the sandwich staples.

This is a warm, friendly eatery that we know as the "Ada Grill." The Deli is located above a very cool bike shop (another review) and offers great lunches and excellent dinners. It's one of our favorite spots to eat. The environment is pleasant with tables near a fireplace, booths that share space with local artwork, beautiful hardwood floors, large windows and strategically placed decorative lights. In the warm season, we eat on the deck which overlooks part of the quaint downtown of the village of Ada. The servers are first rate. They know their food. They make good recommendations. They take care of their customers and are pleasant. The food is very tasty. We enjoy their delicious sandwiches (particularly their Reubens), the Fish and Chips, and specials, such as the four (or was it five) cheese Macaroni and Cheese. We enjoy this restaurant and recommend it heartily.

Went again recently on a busy Saturday night. Much better experience. Service was good. They had a great special of shot-ribs and a carrot-parsnip puree (I adore parsnips.) I forget what everyone else had but all were happy. Portions were huge. Prices fair.

Great sandwiches for lunch. Dinner is always good as well. Love their happy hour too.

There aren't enough actual sandwich shops like this anymore. The food is really great. Sandwiches are made with quality ingredients and the people working behind the counter are really pleasant. The vibe is a little yuppie, but it's Ada after all so I don't think that's a shock. It is worth a trip if you are looking for a good sandwich shop in a beautiful place.

I was having trouble finding a restaurant near the airport that wasn't part of a tired franchise. This place exactly fit the bill; it is located in a quaint village, has a varied and enticing menu, and an excellent local beer/wine selection. The sandwiches looked very enticing but I ended up selecting a chicken pasta dish that was very fulfilling. The staff was prompt, friendly, and helpful.

When the kitchen serves up dishes heavily laden with garlic and salt, it is incumbent on the waitstaff to proffer two things: first, have the kitchen FIX the problem, or second, substitute the aforementioned with a totally different menu item. Neither of which occurred . This was our first visit. Unfortunately, we are too underwhelmed to return .

Consistently good food and service. A great place for lunch or dinner. Gorgonzola dip is the best! Love their sangria. Very cozy atmosphere. Not a huge fan of their soups..wish they had better selection of that. Highly recommend!

Great food but consistently horrible service. I'm a local and anytime someone suggests Schnitz - I give them the eye roll. While the food is always good, the service - from the time you walk in the door until you get your check is consistently bad. Hostess staff is incompetent and rude (this is causal dining!), and the waitstaff is invisible - as is no where to be seen. Took 15 min to get WATER tonight. No matter how much 'feedback' giving to management it never changes. BTW - I've asked around and all the locals agree on this.

Great Dinner menu, wine and beer selection. Dinner portions are generous and filling. Can be busy especially Thurs-Sat. Unfortunately, their website does not include any info regarding dinner service, menu, hours, etc. Kind of frustrating.

The Schnitz Deli is a great place to grab lunch with a friend although a little pricey. The location is nice and they have a second story patio overlooking the quaint village of Ada (the patio furniture could be better though). Bottom line, I would recommend this sandwich shop to others.

Although I have been here numerous times, this was my least favorite experience. I ordered the fish and chips; it came out very hot, but was over cooked and chewy, as were the chips, although the fries (chips) were salted so nicely I was able to overlook the fact they were over cooked. My Martini-X was wonderful! Service was ok; the server could've been a little more attentive. She did offer to have the kitchen make me more fish, but I just knew someone would spit in my food,

Cute, quaint locale in downtown Ada. One side is a deli, the other, a full service dinner restaurant. It's a little confusing when you walk in, because there is a sign that reads, "do not enter kitchen area" but the area is the counter, cash register area with salads in a glass case...so you want to walk up there and order like a regular deli. I was stopped and handed a menu, so oh ok I get a server. That's fine. I ordered chicken salad. I asked for bread. She said then order the sandwich. I said I don't want bacon. She said I couldn't have bread because the dinner bread wasn't cut yet. Ok fine. But I can clearly see a mountain of bread loaves near your deli sandwich makers... Ok whatever. So the chicken salad was mediocre and the server/confused hostess ruined my moment. Great concept... Just need helpful staff that support a solid customer centric mission. If you like chicken salad, go next door to the Nonna cafe before 2:30. It's fabulous!

I loved this place! Visited while on business at the advice of a native and we were not disappointed. Good local selection of beer, great service, fun atmosphere, and the food was outstanding. The standouts were the gorgonzola dip appetizer - oh my gosh, I could've eaten an entire plate of the stuff! And my entree was blackberry spinach with fruit and nut couscous with sauteed spinach - it was absolutely amazing. Seriously one of the best meals I've had in a long time!

I frequent this place often for lunch and have always been satisfied with the sandwiches. California Reuben is my go-to. It's also a hidden gem for happy hour after work. Enjoying a local seasonal beer on the outdoor balcony in early Spring is my personal favorite.

Best mussels in town! Fresh, great spice with lots of broth. A bottle of white , some extra bread, sit outside on a warm Michigan evening... My favorite!

My friend took me for my first visit and even though I live in Chicago I look forward to coming back. Service was fantastic and that was not even the best part. The food was amazing. Great little city and this place fits the area perfectly. A must place to visit and enjoy.

Great little place... very classy! Ada Grill is the right place for any kind of taste buds. Can get very pricey depending on the time of day and the kind of food you like. Salads are great, burgers are HUGE and apparently they have a great selection of alcohol. It's a great atmosphere with the out door balcony overlooking downtown Ada. Great place to go out for a night on the town without the big town draw of Grand Rapids. Overall great place if your not looking for a cheep date.

Yah Schnitz! Schnitz on Fulton, Schnitz on Ada, Schnitz on the South side, Schnitz Bakery, and Common Ground coffee house. One group, five awesome. My favorite sandwich at the Deli is the Hair of the (Mrs.) Dog... smoked ham, dill havarti, lettuce, tomato, & Mrs. Dog's mustard on grilled sourdough... oh man! Sweet, tangy, little sour, some spice. I get mine with extra tomato and sometimes with onion too. And on the side the always obligatory cole slaw, and for dessert one of their amazing and famous brownies... and these are how I like my brownies... not too cakey, not too sticky, and the taste of REAL chocolate. In fact, now that I'm writing about it, I'm going to stop by and get one before I leave Grand Rapids for San Diego on Monday... a MUST! I'm so proud of these folks for growing and developing the way they have. It's always nice to see the locals do something that chains and hospitality groups driven by investors and hunger for growth over quality just can't compete on. As I said, yah! Tip: order the halves, as a full sandwich will not just render you into a food coma, it will kill you! Postscript: this review is on lunches in the deli only, I haven't done dinner here yet!

Went there last night for girls night out. Started out with lobster and shrimp crust inis with water cress. attentive service. The owner actually recommended the pork tenderloin for me (which was excellent). Fun atmosphere, great service, and great selection of drinks and wines. There is a wide selection of items on the menu. I had a potato au gratin which was the best I have ever had, plus you can get the sides al carte. Will be back for sure!

A little loud sometimes, but great outdoor dining. I love sitting on the balcony. The menu is original and fresh. Great decor and fantastic service.

Another Gilmore restaurant that has wonderful food, casual dining and seems to work well for groups. The Schnitz side serves sandwiches and the Grill side offers finer choices for dinner and lunch. Typical Gilmore faire which is a compliment. I've visited several times for lunch and dinner; always good.
