Traveling up to north to Mt. Desert island , the usual route takes us through Wiscasset. I like Reds Eats but it was too hot to wait in line there. My friend likes Le Garage, which is located right across and down the street from Reds, but the last time we stopped at Le Garage, several years ago, I had a seafood tart that tasted of ammonia (going bad). So I more than hesitated to have lunch here again. It was a late lunch, after 3:00 so the place is fairly empty. We are greeted by a musty, stale odor as one walks into the foyer. This odor is such a turn-off. The place has dated, thick patterned carpeting that absorbed all the kitchen odors and tobacco odors over the years. They really need to get rid of that carpet. I settled on a "Blueberry Week" crab cake "lunch". It was just ok, the crab cake was a bit greasy and served with wilted mesclun greens that were not fresh accompanied by a few hard dry blueberries scattered on top. My friend had the lamb skewer with a few chunks of lamb and runny mashed potatoes. He seemed to enjoy the meal but at $19.00 it was a bit pricey for a barebones lunch plate. No rolls were offered, not even a few breadsticks. Our server was very pleasant though and kept the water glasses filled. The view is lovely .

Absolutely beautiful atmosphere, delish apps and cocktails (which is all we stopped in for) and some of the most hospitable managers and servers I have come across in my many years of working in restaurants and dining in them. Loved how fresh local ingredients were highlighted on the special's menu! Definitely stop in!

Was recommended this place by someone in Brunswick actually. Popped in for a drink and ended up staying for more drinks and food and good times! For food we had the strawberry flatbread (it was strawberry time there). It was amazing. Chef Nate deserves much props for his work. Everything tasted very fresh. Bartender Matt (and ALL the Brewer family employees) were awesome. Took great care of us and made us feel very welcome. Thank you!

Very disappointed. I have been going to this restaurant for 35 years and have always loved it. Not this trip. No lobster or steamers on the menu, mashed potatoes that were so "runny" they took over the whole plate, the steak tips weren't really "tips" but big chunks of beef with what tasted like canned gravy over the top. The menu was very limited and not at all like it used to be. I won't go back.

Menu reads much better than what appears on your plate. Won't return. Views are stunning.

We've eaten there several times and it is always fantastic. Perhaps the best crab cakes I've ever had. Low key and mostly local customers. Definately worth passing on Reds for an evening.

We were camping at Chewonki Campground in Wiscasset and wanted to dine out one evening. I looked up restaurants in the area and stumbled upon Le Garage. We decided to check it out. (my husband, myself and our teenage son). We lucked out and were able to get a table by the window overlooking the water. Beautiful view. We had appetizer, three entrees, and drinks. The appetizer was a special I believe- Lobster, cucumber, mozzarella with a dressing. For entrees we had the Le Garage Newburg with Mixed Seafood, Lamb and Sirloin Tips. Delish. Service was good, no long waits for anything. We felt the prices were fair for what you were getting. Overall we were very happy we stumbled upon this place. Great view if you get a window seat, cute building, good service and food is unique and tasty. Would definitely go back if in the area again.

This restaurant have an amazing scenery. However the food are over- priced and the taste of its own it is below average. I order a cup of shrimp stew and a crepe of ratatouille . First the shrimp stew is very watery with no favour, so if you like water-down cream looking like soup with few shrimps in it, you probably like it. The crepe is very slippy. It is really hard to eat. I can hardly finish the entire meal. This is a place seems to be for lots of loyal customers from the area. If you are visiting this place, ordering a coffee or some drinks will be a pleasing spot. But not really the food though.

YUM! We sat in the window area looking over the water and had some great drinks and lunch. Great menu with plenty of options. Had one of the best reuben sandwiches I'd had in awhile. Spinach and artichoke dip was creamy and good. Service was good, everything was clean, and food tasted great. Would definitely go back.

French onion soup and lobster stew were delicious on this cold and rainy day. Great view!!! Service was prompt and friendly. Watching traffic coming into town across the bridge only made the lunch better.

Very mediocre and over priced. Service was friendly, but most of our food came out lukewarm to cold temperature wise. Two of us had the NY Strip special with chimichurri (yes after two weeks in Maine we wanted a break from seafood). Another had the duck, which he said was good if "lukewarm". NY Strip was cooked as ordered (medium) but other than that was blah. Chimichurri sauce was terrible, and accompanying veggies were mediocre (and cold). Dessert - blueberry pie. Had nice blueberry flavor but crust was somewhat lacking in flavor and the pie also was served mostly cold. The restaurant was not super packed and had adequate wait staff, so not sure what the issue was here.

Fabulous Food!!! Nice views of the harbor, a wonderful ambience and very reasonable prices . .. A true hidden gem!

What a surprise. This place is a gem. Our waitress Barbara was so sweet and helpful. The food was great and you had a choice of small or regular size. I had the Wedge salad which was fresh and crisp. Then I followed with the. Crabby Mac and Cheese. Creamy, hot and chunks of crab meat. Nice hot fresh roll. It is Strawberry Rhubarb week so my husband had the strawberry, banana, rhubarb and pineapple chilled soup. He was very happy! Then he finished my salad and went right to dessert. Strawberry Rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream. Again a happy man. We were seated by the window with a view of the harbor and a pleasant breeze. A shame we're just visiting the area.

Pretty good food, awesome view and not all that expensive. It's off the Main road so it isn't all that busy. It's a great find right on the water. Very nice place. Looks casual on the outside but very well done on the inside.

Been going here for 25 years. It's had its ups and downs although in that period I think it has only had 1 or 2 ownership/head chef changes. Was getting tired of the old menu - new one seems more diverse, although I will say this place has always had a thing for heavy creamy sauces - fine for some but not me. The biggest recent improvement is that the prices have actually dropped compared to inflation. We used to reserve this place for occasions when we felt like spending more, but now it's more appealing anytime. Not haut cuisine, but we've never had a bad meal here. Desserts are all in-house or locally made, and are very reasonably priced - same with starters/salads - they usually get you on these things. Also to its credit, they don't have a fryolator (nor does Sarah's down the street). Wiscasset seems to be making a statement against frying everything, as in many Maine moderate and under restaurants. Good for them.

Underwhelming -- the food was fine at best. The french onion soup provided a promising start to the evening, but, sadly, it was downhill from there. Bisque was under-salted and salads were ho-hum. Perhaps intentionally bland to cater to undiscerning tourists paying from the view.

Very pleased with service, quality, and interesting preparations. Lamb kabobs, crispy salmon, Mac&cheese. Brought our 9 year olds. Food was not fast but was worth the wait. Kids played outside at the dock on the waterfront after dinner.

Beautiful views, great service and delicious food! This sums up our Le Garage experience. We were delighted by our mid July, Wednesday evening dinner overlooking the Sheepscott river as the sun setting light made the opposite shore turn gold. Our waitstaff was attentive without being unobtrusive and our vegetarian paella and fresh broiled haddock were both delicious. Loved having a selection of brews on tap and enjoyed the good vibes between staff and repeat diners. The high ceilings and large windows help maximize the location overlooking the river, and we discovered a more casual bar and dining area on the lower level as we exited. Surprised this lovely restaurant wasn't busier but happy not to fight the crowds and thoroughly enjoyed our relaxed dinner.

A new chef brings excitement to a tired restaurant, so I thought. I have given this two chances and Friday night at the bar was my last. Grumpy bar tender who couldn't make two drinks at once. On to the bar menue - horrible Reuben Sandwich, who can't make a good Reuben? Really?? Very little meat, a tablespoon of sauerkraut, skimpy, quality not good. A glass fell from the bar and the bartender never cleaned it up. The 40 minutes we were there you could hear him walking over the broken glass. MMMM I think that may have been a health code violation. So on to the decor, tired, faded silk flowers in the windows, dingy, dingy, dingy! This makes me so sad as it is convenient. By the way, I know Chef Andersson is a talented chef, I don't know where things are going wrong, truly, it is too bad !!

Le Garage is a longtime gem overlooking Wiscasset Harbor in Wiscasset, Maine. I have been going to Le Garage frequently for more than 25 years. Excellent "Downeast" fare including seafood and lobster dishes. The best creamed finan haddie that you will find anywhere. Great sides. Homemade desserts - including the unique "Bird's Nest" meringue sundae. Nice "pub" menu in the basement @ Le Bar. Beautiful views.

I wish I could write a great review of this place; I've been here about 3 times in 10 years, and the food just is not any good. Desserts are solid, and worth it for those alone; but the main meals are really a bit of a let-down. Just mediocrity across the board. Sigh! Go for the dessert, but spend your $ elsewhere for a full meal. Too much cost for not a worthwhile return.

I go here quite often and I have yet had a bad meal! We always go downstairs and Mike the bartender is great!!

Dropped in for lunch at this restaurant and was very pleasantly surpriised. Although it has been in business for many years, I had never heard of it. The varied menu seems to have something for everyone. I am an old time meat and potato eater and the pot roast was a perfect comfort food for me. I don't travel through Wiscasset very often but believe me: I will stop in again.

Hmm. What does it say about a restaurant what you can't remember what you had to eat there 3 days later? Oh yeah. that's right - I had the finnan haddie. That's basically smoked fish SOS. The first few bites were good, but after about three, I was completely over that dish. It was meant for a cocktail snack, not a main course. The dining room was an exceedingly weird mixture of upscale and not. Dim lighting, white tablecloths, and... paper placemats? The view over the water was beautiful, and it was a fantastic place to watch a storm roll in. The clientele was (at least the night we went) exclusively older and well-dressed (business casual). We felt a little weird even though we'd called to ask what dress they recommend and they said "Anything - we're not at all fancy." It might be a nice place to go in Wiscasset, but don't expect to find a true hidden gem that you'll tell all your friends about.

A pretty location, but average food that costs a lot. Pie was good. Pesto sauce was way too oily & not enough basil. Had better clam chowder in plenty of other places. Kind of a bummer. Just keep looking at the view while you're there & maybe you won't be disappointed.

Both the food and service were great! Also the portions were very generous and not expensive. We sat by the window and had a terrific view of the river. A place I would highly recommend.

Housed in a converted garage building overlooking the water, this restaurant is hard to categorize. It's not a casual place, and it's not fine dining. The menu is basically simple, old school dishes done decently. I had the French onion soup to start, while others had salads. All were tasty, but let's face it - these are items you would have found on a menu 20 or 30 years ago. For main courses, we had a decent scallops wrapped in bacon (loved it in 1982); a half duck cooked and served "whole" (not sliced off the bone, but literally like a small animal on your plate); and a surprisingly good lamb loin, basically a boneless lamb steak. The lamb loin itself was perfectly cooked, and is certainly a 4 star dish. The others were average, somewhat tasty, but a tad behind the times for my taste. The accompaniments were also strictly old school - steamed zucchini slices and mashed potatoes. The service was friendly, but more "deli" or "diner" than upscale. While you won't be blown away here, it's not a bad place to take grandma and grandpa for a night out. And the lamb steak is a darn good dish. It's just that they need more such dishes.
