Red’s Eats

I remember seeing Red's Eats featured on the Food Network a few years ago, and ever since then, I've never forgotten about it. My husband and I were in Boston this last May 2011 looking for an apartment for the next year, and we took a trip up to Acadia National Park. On the way down, I remembered to look up Red's, so that we can taste for ourselves how wonderful their lobster rolls really are. The anticipation was building during our whole road trip, and the whole way back from the national park, our minds were focused on one thing only: lobster rolls at Red's. Well, I can say with all honesty that we were NOT disappointed. Our lobster rolls far exceeded our expectations. We literally had chunks of lobster tail meat cut in half overflowing our sandwich baskets. I estimated about 1.5 to 2 lobsters where in there. I swear, I don't even remember eating bread with it!! We dipping the lobster meat in our sides of drawn butter. The meat was tender and sweet. Ahhh! Sweet satisfaction. I assure you a trip up to Red's is well worth the drive. The only disappointment was that we didn't order two sandwiches each to chow down upon. Hope you all have the chance to make a trip up to this outstanding roadside lobster shack! We'll be going back up again soon now that we're in Boston. Happy Eats!
I still occasionally dream about the lobster roll from Red's Eats. There was a killer thunder and lightening storm on the horizon the night we landed in Portland, ME. It was sort of spectacular and creepy like a good Stephen King novel. Just before the rain began to pour down, we drove into a little charmer of a town, the likes of which doesn't really exist on the west coast. That is where we discovered Red's Eats. We stood in line in front of the unassuming shack and figured out what to order. The host at our B&B warned us that if we started off experiencing lobster rolls from Red's before anywhere else during our Maine trip, we may not ever feel quite as satisfied. She was right. I read the review here from the local & experienced lobster man and I'll defer to what he says. All I can say is that there is absolutely NO comparison to this on the west coast. We are simply deprived in this context. What we get here is exorbitantly priced lobster with sub-par qualities. The roll at Red's converted my hubby, who was never been a big fan of shellfish and had me dreaming of returning to the east coast one day-- if only to stuff myself silly and to the point of sickness so that I could curtail any future cravings!! Yes, it's THAT bad-ass.
Holy Cow!! The best lobster roll we found on our five day trip across Maine and we ate something like lobster 9 times in five days. Absolutely the best tasting one around and well portioned. The price was around $14, but the quantity of meat was generous and the quality of the meat was outstanding. Very good mixture of meat; had a little claw meat with lots of pieces of tail meat and then topped off with a near full size tail cut in half and laid on the top of the roll. And for heaven's sake get the Onion Rings; very sweet and delicious as well!! Best lunch we had all week here in Maine!! The place is just a standard roadside stand located right at the corner of the town once you come across the bridge on Rt. 1. Parking is a little challenging, but they had 6-8 picnic tables out back to sit and eat. They had a ton of other items on the menu as well, so plenty for the entire family to choose from. Also, a nice ice cream shop was located right behind for desert. Don't miss this one!!!!

Not a well known or busy breakfast stop but definitely a good one! This place is well worth the drive from town. Good prices, large portions and their fries are amazing! The only one down fall to this restaurant is being understaffed, it took a while to just to order because there is only one waitress when I went there. This place deserves more attention, I'd have to say this is the best breakfast for your money in the town of wiscasset hands down.

We were on our way to Portland and saw all the great yelp reviews for Reds and wanted to stop there but when we saw the line we kept driving and stopped here instead - lobster stew and fried clams were delish! Sides of fresh rolls, coleslaw and fries also excellent. Prices seemed a little high. we don't mind paying more for good quality but it seemed like a lot for a basket a fried stuff. But maybe it's just market price? Anyway, it was yummy!
This restaurant was a quick-decision thanks to Yelp. We needed to stop and grab a quick bite traveling to Camden, and it was delightful. The prices are a bit on the steeper side, but you got a large serving of delicious seafood for the price. Being a Maine local - this is one of the better seafood places I've been to. The fried foods were just that - fried and crispy, not soggy or greasy like other places. Definitely recommended! Plus the facilities were very clean!
This place has changed in the last year. Portions have gotten smaller and prices are a bit high for what is on the plate. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Sarah’s Cafe

Just okay. The soup was good, but the pizza was bland and doughy. The waiter was very friendly, although a bit slow. He did have a lot of tables so that was probably the cause. The host was grumpy, at best.
Perennial favorite for home-made soups and lots of sandwich choices. As you tuck into wooden booths with upholstered seating in an air conditioned dining room, you can see the bridge and river, as well as a drive-in lobster roll shack. The real attraction however is anything on Sarah'sr menu, including "oven (potato) fries." Since I was still focused on consuming real Maine lobster during my real Maine visit, I thoroughly enjoyed Sarah's version of a lobster roll. I was happy to see mounds of lobster meat in a scant mayo dressing, specked green with finely chopped celery. The roll was toasted on the outside and soft inside. Perhaps because all sizes of salt and fresh water bodies are close by just about everywhere in Maine, the art of water color painting has every citizen displaying their masterpieces. A nice collection is on the walls at Sarah's. I was tempted to straighten them as they hung on the walls because they were all crooked/listing slightly. Nah. It wouldnt be nautical of me. This close to the Atlantic, every fisherman must think the paintings' angles looked just right.
Had a beer battered haddock sandwich here. It was the best I've ever had. Fresh, crusted beer batter, a biscuit like roll and a bit of cheese. Such a simple dish but a pleasure to see done well.

Le Garage Restaurant

Traveling up to north to Mt. Desert island , the usual route takes us through Wiscasset. I like Reds Eats but it was too hot to wait in line there. My friend likes Le Garage, which is located right across and down the street from Reds, but the last time we stopped at Le Garage, several years ago, I had a seafood tart that tasted of ammonia (going bad). So I more than hesitated to have lunch here again. It was a late lunch, after 3:00 so the place is fairly empty. We are greeted by a musty, stale odor as one walks into the foyer. This odor is such a turn-off. The place has dated, thick patterned carpeting that absorbed all the kitchen odors and tobacco odors over the years. They really need to get rid of that carpet. I settled on a "Blueberry Week" crab cake "lunch". It was just ok, the crab cake was a bit greasy and served with wilted mesclun greens that were not fresh accompanied by a few hard dry blueberries scattered on top. My friend had the lamb skewer with a few chunks of lamb and runny mashed potatoes. He seemed to enjoy the meal but at $19.00 it was a bit pricey for a barebones lunch plate. No rolls were offered, not even a few breadsticks. Our server was very pleasant though and kept the water glasses filled. The view is lovely .
Absolutely beautiful atmosphere, delish apps and cocktails (which is all we stopped in for) and some of the most hospitable managers and servers I have come across in my many years of working in restaurants and dining in them. Loved how fresh local ingredients were highlighted on the special's menu! Definitely stop in!
Was recommended this place by someone in Brunswick actually. Popped in for a drink and ended up staying for more drinks and food and good times! For food we had the strawberry flatbread (it was strawberry time there). It was amazing. Chef Nate deserves much props for his work. Everything tasted very fresh. Bartender Matt (and ALL the Brewer family employees) were awesome. Took great care of us and made us feel very welcome. Thank you!

After reading the reviews, we opted to give this place a shot. We didn't feel like going out and delivery options are limited to Edgecomb, ME. The lady that answered the phone was helpful and pleasant. When our questions about their Philipino food exceeded her knowledge, she put the chef on the phone! We told him we like our food spicy...he guided us to try the chicken adobo. The chicken was buttery soft, tender and full of flavor, the veggies crisp to our liking and spice level good. He also recommended the fried rice, lo mein and Shanghai rolls. The fried rice and lo mein was good, cooked well, not too salty and with the container of chili oil he included, we could spice up to our liking. The Shanghai rolls were light, crispy and perfect!! It is hard to get spring rolls delivered that don't arrive kinda steamed and soggy...these were soooo good and long! The value, food and service were all top notch.
Only found one thing that is somewhat edible. Not very good. Service is ok. But I will avoid going here. Food is very blah and in general I wouldn't even go here as a last resort... It was the first place I are at when I moved to Maine last year. Very upsetting.
Nothing special about this standard small-town Chinese buffet. If you're looking for cheap and greasy, you found it here. This is the kind of place you'd love in high school, but hate as a adult. I recommend: If anything, the chicken fingers with white rice (boring).
