this place is incredible -- the ice cream is so creamy and fresh!! the tamari caramel flavor, salted chocolate, strawberry balsamic flavors are all great! the nice lady gave us huge portions of everything! we have an ice cream coma right afterwards. the ginger greentea and blueberry mint flavor is just okay. furious George is unlike anything I've tasted, but I can't imagine eating an entire cone of it. overall, try what you like, then pick a cone!

Hands-down the best ice cream spot I have been too. I will follow that up by saying gelato fiasco has been my favorite spot for a long time and they are now losing a lot of business. The two are like comparing apples and oranges.. But like the best apple and orange I've ever had. Everything is handmade and prepared with love in this shop. The flavors are amazing, well thought out and all well-balanced. Don't be scared, get out of Portland and tried this spot.

My favorite place for ice cream!! The owners are fun and friendly and encourage you to try every flavor. Speaking of flavors, the have some peculiar sounding ones but don't knock it till you try it. My favorite is the blueberry sweet corn although the tamarin caramel and strawberry balsalmic are up there too. The regular size sundaes can feed two people or keep one full for several hours. It's a little hard to find but worth the extra couple of minutes you backtrack after passing it up on accident. A word to the wise though, this gem of a place is cash only.

Order: Salty chocolate Vanilla bean Okay so I don't think I got the flavor names correctly but it's pretty close to it. I should have wrote it down. Anyway, service is BOMB.COM and their hand made ice cream is creamy, smooth and delicious. The flavor combinations are either original and creative or epic classics. Definitely the place to go when you visit Portland. The owner is pretty sweet too :)

I absolutely LOVE this place!! A small cute little store which is a family run business. The people are super nice!! I love ice cream and am very picky about the places I get it from. I tried all 5 flavors that were available that day and I honestly can't say which one was the best - they were all INCREDIBLE! The flavors I tried were: Furious George Salted Chocolate Strawberry Balsamic (had to get this coz strawberry is my all time fav ice cream flavor) Brown Sugar Vanilla Tamari Caramel Also - very generous portions and the cone was delicious! If you are in the neighborhood and in the mood for ice cream, this is the place to go to! You won't regret it :)

I feel like a broken record by exclaiming how fab this place is, but Im'ma gonna do it anyways. But first I need to get a gripe out of the way. Being from the Topsham area I am accustom to normal intersections and driving situations. Dear Lordy lord, I needed that sweet cream after driving to this location. Stressful! So if you are use to pretty little streets all in a row, have a friend drive. So ice cream, ice cream , we all scream for ice cream! Woot. In Maine, when summer hits, we want to savor that sweet coldness that melts over our tongue. If you are like me, that coldness better have the most intriguing unique taste or Im'ma gonna eat it anyways, but it won't be a memorable memory. Anyways, this place gives me that flavah flav that I like. The Curious George heated up the back of my throat in the most curious way, loved it. The salted chocolate was oh so delightful, and the caramel was unique enough that I kept wanting to taste it to really understand the flavor. So as everyone else said, go try it, try all of it, roll in it for that matter. Just go, go now, I mean it! (One sad thing is that they no longer serve coffee and I think that needs to change back. )

As my tip suggests: come here and eat all of the ice cream. I guarantee an excellent time. For my first visit, I spent a good portion of the time driving up and down Main St. in Westbrook trying to find their new location. There is no sign hanging outside and the only way I knew was to get out of the car and walk towards where I thought it would be. They have a folding sign announcing their presence but you won't see it from a car unless you know what to look for. Once I got inside, I was seriously impressed with the owner. He was multitasking like a boss. Taking orders, scooping ice cream, making cookies, and starting an ice cream base while also being really pleasant? Impressive, sir. I tip my hat to you. There was a bit of a line and he stayed calm and cool the whole time. On to the ice cream. They had only 5 flavors and each of them was totally unique. I don't think any other ice cream place in the Portland area is serving a strawberry balsamic or tamari flavored ice cream. I appreciate the fact that they are doing their own thing and making artisan ice cream that is loaded with flavor. I went with the tamari caramel ice cream and topped it with cinnamon roasted peanuts for some crunch. I probably should have gone with a kiddie cone because I had no idea how much I would get with a regular and I got a ton. It was probably 3 big scoops in the most amazing waffle cone I've ever had. I'm not sure what to say about the cone. It appears that they are made by the Catbird team from scratch and you can taste it. They are crunchy and super delicate to use. I did see a cone death while he was scooping my boyfriend's ice cream. I will definitely be back for more ice cream. Especially one of the ice cream sandwiches because the cookies looked amazing and the chance to mix flavors! Things to keep in mind: It's good to get there early, the line can get long. Also, it's cash only so be prepared with that.

I don't often venture into Westbrook, but I can honestly say that since I discovered Catbird, I've been here more in the past couple of years than the rest of my life combined. I've made my husband drive out of our way (making us late for a dinner with friends) so that we could hit this place while it's open. I really can't think of a single negative thing to say about this shop. The owners are the nicest people you'll run into and really do ENCOURAGE you to try as many flavors as you'd like... and will suggest others based on the flavors you prefer. As far as the flavors go, they're all amazing (not just great, but seriously amazing). I've never been a chocolate ice cream fan (unless it's my grandmother's homemade version) and this is the first place that lives up to that homemade version... The salted chocolate is by far the best chocolate ice cream I've ever had - and it really does taste homemade. Their brown sugar vanilla is likely also the best vanilla I've ever had, and their Tamari Caramel is fantastic... Their sauces and toppings always look great, though I've only tried the butterscotch sauce (also incredible) and they offer either a waffle bowl or cookie to go with any of your sundae choices. We had a snickerdoodle cookie and even my husband said "now, that's a good snickerdoodle!" which is pretty much the highest mark you can get from him since he's not a sweets fan. He also really liked the Furious George flavor. All in all, one of the best ice cream shops I've ever been to. And don't be scared off if you see a line at the door - it's worth the wait!

What's not to love about this little ice cream shop? The owner/operator runs this place and he is the key to it's success. He is creative in coming up with unique flavors like Strawberry Balsamic, Tamari Caramel (what??), and Furious George (cold ice cream with a spicy hot kick!). He is personable - treating every customer as if they are the only one there. And, he's generous!! Without even asking, he offered up samples of every flavor (no joke) so my friend and I could make and informed decision. And seriously, the scoop sizes are no joke! I ordered a kiddie scoop and it was huge! On to the taste. I'm not an ice cream lover (five years scooping it will cure you of that), but I am a sucker for creative flavor. This place delivers. I mean really - Tamari in ice cream! Wow! He changes flavors frequently, so you never know what you will get and can't always count on a favorite being on the menu. Tonight's flavor selection was limited per the owner, but my friend and I were came away very satisfied. And, it's worth noting that my friend is a "traditionalist" when it comes to ice cream, but she was pleasantly surprised. She ended up getting two flavors that had he not offered us samples, she never would of tried. And, she loved both of them! This place was is a great addition to the Main Street of Westbrook!

Full disclosure: I just moved to Westbrook and Catbird Creamery is one of the businesses giving me hope that Westbrook downtown will be the hot new thing. That said. Damn. I used to live quite near Ample Hills Creamery in Brooklyn (see: yelp.com/biz/ample-hills… ) and I think Catbird Creamery is going to fill the Ample Hills sized hole in my heart. And I don't just mean that my ice cream habit is eventually going to cause my heart failure (I mean, a girl's gotta have at least one vice). First off, check out these flavors: The Furious George (hot pepper ice cream with banana), Rhubarb Pie (what it sounds like, and yes, it includes chunks of graham cracker crust), Coconut Coffee Caramel Sorbet. It goes on. Top it off with amazing hot fudge, butterscotch or a strawberry rhubarb sauce. Get it in a house-made cone. The dedication to fresh-local-homemade detail here is ridiculous. I mean even the whipped cream is small batch and home made. While I was here there was a decent-sized line, but the man working behind the counter (by himself, on the hottest weekend of the summer, I'm gonna go ahead and assume this was Andrew Warren the owner) kept everyone happy, made small talk, replaced a cone for an unfortunate child ice-cream-dropping-incident, whipped tiny tupperware containers in and out of the freezer and did the whole thing with an ear-to-ear smile on his face. I think they'll improve the layout and flow with time and maybe move to some larger tupperware bins, regardless they have a fan for life in this ice cream lover.

I'll just get it out of the way- amazing ice cream. You wont be disappointed and you'll want to come back. Regularly. But let's talk about the owner. When I was in, this guy was running the shop alone, making ice cream and entertaining guests at the same time. He was a champ- genuinely friendly, personable, and an honest, hard worker. He told us he often has his two year old in the shop strapped to his back. Random but if I saw it certainly adorable. They just moved to a new location, so the shop itself only has two tables and ice cream was pretty limited when I was in. Not a problem, I was still overwhelmingly happy with my salted chocolate ice cream. A part of Westbrook Main street- I love repping the 'brook and it's cute little restaurants, and Catfish gets five stars for its delectable presence.

Remember when the Celtics won the NBA championship in 2011 and Kevin Garnett was yelling that anything is possible? When the first spoonful of my ice cream sundae hit my tongue, it was like Kevin Garnett was in my mouth yelling the same thing again. The ice cream was so good, I don't even care how you take that I just wrote it was like Kevin Garnett being in my mouth. IT'S THAT GOOD. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!!

Westbrook is a mystery to me. One minute we were in a part of Portland that I didn't know existed, and the next we were in Westbrook. I had been wanting to try this place all summer, but it always seemed so far away. It's not, but even if it were, I would drive to get there. On a recent visit I tried the brown sugar vanilla. My husband had the balsamic strawberry and our son had the blueberry pie. All 3 were delicious. I think the balsamic strawberry was my favorite but you can't go wrong with any of the flavors. The smell of fresh waffle cones hits you when you walk in the door and will instantly make you a believer that this place is the real deal. Like any good ice cream shop, they encourage you to try before you buy. The portions are really big. A small is actually quite large, but it's so delicious that maybe you'll just skip dinner and eat ice cream instead? Writing this review is making me want to drive there and pick up a cone right now!

I used to think that all ice cream tasted the same. Store brand, Haagen Dazs, Ben & Jerry's, Gifford's, hand-made ice cream... all of it. BOY WAS I WRONG. All I had at Catbird was plain old chocolate ice cream with some whipped cream, gooey strawberry stuff, and sprinkles. I can't even describe how rich and creamy this ice cream tasted. I now understand the difference between crappy store brand ice cream with over 20 ingredients and ice cream from Catbird. I get it now. I TRULY GET IT NOW! With just one bite a surge of endorphins rushed over me and I instantaneously felt happy. I never had that feeling with any other chocolate ice cream before. NEVER. The service was beyond excellent. They pretty much let you try every flavor before you make your final decision. The lady in front of me had to try one flavor twice, because apparently she couldn't taste it right the first time?! I guess you could say I'm boring, but I went straight to the chocolate flavor first. I didn't even try any of the other ones, so if you're looking to discover other flavors, you should definitely take a look at the other reviews on here! Only problem I had with this place was actually finding it. Maybe I'm blind, but I was running around for a good 7 minutes trying to locate it. It was also around really dark outside and they were about to close. Perhaps a glow in the dark sign at night would be nice? Just kidding! :)

I think the secret is out now but this is definitely a hidden gem in Maine. Some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Been here twice and highly recommend. I have had the salted chocolate, rhubarb pie and the balsamic strawberrry and all were excellent. Everybody we have brought with us has really enjoyed this place and really liked the unique flavors such as furious george and tamari caramel.

By far the best ice cream you will get in Maine and elsewhere. Handmade with all natural ingredients, the flavors change day to day and are always delicious. Have you ever had a spicy ice cream? No, well at least try a free sample of the Furious George. Very hard working creator and owner. Free water provided and he always used to (getting too busy now I think) ask "Did that hit the ice cream spot for ya?" Multiple times I have gone back for seconds. You won't be disappointed!

All good things come to those who wait. The first time I went to Catbird Creamery: they were closed. It was a Monday. They're not open Monday. Okay, so this is my fault for not checking that. The second time I went to Catbird Creamery: they were closed, but were supposed to be open. Actually it was 40 minutes before they closed for the day. So why we're the lights off? This was definitely not my fault (and also not a good second first impression). But I'm relentless. And had heard SO. MANY. WONDERFUL. THINGS. about Catbird that I really needed to experience the creamery myself. And then finally... FINALLY... I got the chance to. And angels sang, unicorns galloped merrily down rainbows, and a short freckled girl's mind and belly were satisfied. We were greeted by - who I assume are husband and wife - the owners. The man was making ice cream and playing with his son (multi-tasking like a champ) while the woman let us try every flavor they were offering that day (they really will let you do this, they even encourage it!!!) with a genuine smile on her face the whole time. You can tell that these are people who love what they're doing. Their passion and joy are entirely palpable. Among the flavors we tried were: - Furious George: Hot pepper ice cream with dark chocolate chips and caramelized bananas. Sounds weird, but it totally works. It's one of those "just one more bite" types of foods. - Blueberry Corn: It tasted EXACTLY like blueberries AND corn on the cob. This is when I knew Catbird Creamery must know witchcraft or something to come up with a flavor profile SO PERFECTLY matched to it's real food and as duo. - Tamari Caramel: I really wanted to like this more than I did, but it just wasn't caramel-y or tamari-y enough for me. Wish those flavors were stronger. - Strawberry Balsamic: Hands down THE BEST strawberry ice cream I HAVE EVER HAD (and this coming from a girl who knows a thing or two about ice cream). In the end, we ordered: - A cookie sandwich (with one chocolate chip cookie and one sugar/butterscotch cookie) with half Furious George and half Strawberry Balsamic. DO NOT BE FOOLED. These ice cream sandwiches are ENORMOUS. Enormous, I tell you! Easily sharable. The cookies themselves are huge, then add two generous scoops of ice cream. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't finish the entire thing! - A sundae with salted chocolate ice cream, brown sugar vanilla ice cream, homemade chocolate sauce, homemade whipped cream (NOMMMMMMS), and a cherry. Absolutely divine, friends. I'm not usually a sundae gal, but... I can see myself craving one of Catbird's delicious concoctions. The sum of all these parts? The best ice cream shop may be lying right outside of Portland. Do yourself a f(l)avor and go. Sample everything. Order big. Be happy. The Catbird people are!

I visited Catbird Creamery last night for the first time. When I arrived, the line was out the door -- usually a good sign! They only had perhaps 10 flavors available the night of my visit, but there was enough variety that most anybody would be able to find something they liked. The energetic fellow behind the counter handed me a couple of free samples while I waited for the line to slowly move forward. First was the salted chocolate. Rich, creamy, bold chocolate flavor. I couldn't really detect the salt, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Second was the blueberry mojito. Holy cow, the fresh raw mint slapped me across the face! I love mint, and I really enjoyed this flavor, although I have to admit I couldn't taste the blueberry because the mint was so potent. I ended up choosing the coffee caramel coconut sorbet, which turned out to be an excellent choice. Bold coffee flavor -- like real coffee, not that awful instant coffee flavor -- very creamy, sweet enough to balance out the bite of the coffee, and just enough coconut to give it an exotic, almost Thai curry-like essence. The cone was wonderfully delicious too. Price was $4.75, which seemed pretty reasonable considering the very generous amount of ice cream, the made-from-scratch cone, and the exotic ingredients. They don't take plastic, so be sure to hit the ATM before you go. There are two banks within short walking distance. I wouldn't say this is the best ice cream in southern Maine, although it's certainly in my Top 5, and I'll definitely be going back! This place is a wonderful addition to downtown Westbrook. The nearby riverwalk is a great way to burn off a few calories while you enjoy your cone. :)

There's not enough words to describe how awesome this place truly is. The ice cream is incredible and the guy running the place when I went was phenomenal. He encouraged us to make "informed ice cream choices" by trying all the flavors our heart desired, which only made it harder to actually order something. I ended up getting a warm butterscotch cookie sundae with Caramel Ice Cream (infused with Japaneses soy sauce; don't knock it til you try it) and Blueberry Sweet Corn Ice Cream, topped with Blueberry Rhubarb Sauce, Honey Roasted Peanuts, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry. The combo of flavors and toppings is pretty much endless. And I only paid $5.95 after tax. What a deal! The biggest surprise of the night was the whipped cream. It's basically like an extra scoop of ice cream. It's thick, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Tip: the place is cash only. From my experience, cash only = awesome place. Definitely try this place out!

Catbird Creamery is phenomenal! I have never had a bad experience. When eating in Westbrook, Catbird Creamery is always our next destination. The owner is one of the nicest, patient, and most welcoming person I think I have ever met. He always offers free samples of any of the flavors and when my sister asked about sprinkles he said "we haven't figure out a way to make them, YET!" They also make everything in-house down to the cookies and waffle cones. My favorite flavors are salted chocolate, tea & cookies, and any other flavor that involves chocolate. I didn't get it, but someone I was once with got the Furious George and has claimed it as their favorite. They make ice cream sandwiches with any amount of flavors in between two cookies of your choice! I usually get chocolate chip. The portions are huge! I've gotten a kiddie cone and it's more than enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. The flavors may sound intimidating, but they're definitely worth a try! It is cash only.

I kind of can't get over this place. You know what I can't get over? The fact that the ice cream here is served out of tupperware. TUPPERWARE. If there's anything that assures something is fresh and homemade, it's tupperware. I felt like I was eating homemade ice cream at my grandmother's house. The only difference is that my grandmother doesn't make ice cream half this good (sorry, Grammy). The ice cream was soft and creamy- I got the strawberry balsamic and the brown sugar vanilla. There were only 5 flavors available to choose from, but what do you expect when it comes in tupperware? Also, when I went in, they had recently moved to a new location- so maybe they have more normally; not sure. Either way you'll find something you like. The owner was friendly and personable. He took his time with every customer, getting to know them and really sharing his passion. Bottom line: It's a cute and cozy little family-run business with delicious ice cream- exactly the type of place I'll gladly give my money to.

I am glad we stayed out near Westbrook so I could find this place. Great owner who was super helpful with picking flavors. Hus place reminder of Jenis Splendid Ice Cream in Columbus. We tested numerous flavors and ordered a triple for $4.50 to share. My wife loved the Furious George which had a great spice kick. I ordered the Banana Bread which tasted like it but without any chunks of bread. I loved this one. I even ordered Lemon & Thyme which shocked my wife. I usually do not like lemon flavors but this one won me over. He threw a little salted chocolate on top to make it a well balanced dessert. This place makes everything in house even though it is a small kitchen. I would frequent this place if I lived near just to chat with the owner.

The ratings on here still can't even prepare you for how amazingly delicious the ice cream is and how friendly the service is! There is parking next to the bank, a short walk. My toddler loved the table that wS set up with blocks. I have never in my life liked fruity things and I absolutely love the strawberry balsamic! I can't wait to go back for more;)

So impressed. What incredible and creative ice cream. These people really have a passion for what they are doing and are experts at ice cream making. Flavors are so different and they let you try it all. You can feel the sense of pride they have in their ice cream. While standing in line we were just handed a sample of mint tea with cookies ice cream and I could just tell the guy couldn't wait to see what we thought of it. It was amazing. "The taste of summer, herbs straight from the garden" he said... Asked if they make their own cherries and they sure did. Marinated in cinnamon. Ice cream with heart and soul!

So. So. SOOOOOOOOO GOOD! if you have never had catbird I feel so sad for your tastebuds. For me, This is the kind of ice cream that you take a bite out of and then say "what the heeeeccck- why is that sooo good!" The camarel is probably my favorite thus far but the furious George (chilli peanut butter chocolate I think?) and appleberry mint are right up there! Oh and the owners are a super sweet family that usually have their adorable baby around- I love it!

Those days where you feel like you deserve ice cream - when you feel like you have flipping earned it - either for an accomplishment or everything just hit the fan: you owe it to yourself to go to Catbird. This is the best ice cream in Maine. And Maine loves its frozen treats. (Can you go more than 10 miles without driving past an ice cream place here?) The flavors are inventive and wonderful. The sundae toppings are amazing - the blueberry lemon sauce was a favorite of mine. They change the flavors based on what is alive and the best in the season. The cookies for the cookie sandwiches can make me swoon a little. My trick with the cookie sandwiches if you can't decide what flavors to get - they will do it half and half! I love this place and appreciate where it is in Westbrook instead of nestling itself in downtown Portland where it is not easy to get to for some people. I almost appreciate it a little more for "daring" to be in Westbrook.

When you meet someone who has such a passion for what they create, you can tell before you even sample it, that it will be great. That is what the owner of Catbird Creamery delivers. The shop is small, but quaint, with a few seating areas, and the flavors are limited to a handful. But, the quality of every piece that goes into crafting each sundae can be tasted, from the richness of the ice cream to to the homemade sauces and whipped cream. Every part of it will make you glad you walked in. I sampled the Furious George, because I read about it beforehand and couldn't visit this place without trying it. The flavor was fantastic, with just a small amount of lingering heat that creeps up afterwards. I also tried the strawberry balsamic, and enjoyed that as well. I finally decided on a salted chocolate and tamari caramel sundae with hot fudge, nuts, whipped cream and a (NOT maraschino) cherry on top. I usually opt for no cherry, but the owner assured me I should try it. He was right. It was a life-altering ice cream experience. It was also very inexpensive, which greatly surprised me for the amount of ice cream I was given. I'll be back again, if not to try the waffle cones made in-house, but to try as many of the other flavors as I can. I cannot recommend this establishment more for anyone in the portland area.

Hand-crafted, small batch ice cream in palate surprising flavor combinations. We detoured on the way home after an Acadia trip to see if Catbird lived up to the reviews. It's all that and then some. It will spoil you for life if you don't normally eat home-crafted ice cream. The owner is a wonderfully friendly and accommodating guy. There are picnic tables in the back of this building (I had my puppy with me so of course inside eating was not an option). Well worth the trip and even life altering as another Yelper said!

Among the best ice cream anywhere. Go there with haste. Brown sugar vanilla, salted chocolate, strawberry with balsamic vinegar: yes.

Small icecream was HUGE, if you get the sundae.... also ENORMOUS... Prices aren't too outrageous and you can tell the guy who works here genuinely loves his job. Flavors were inventive and this guy actually whipped my whipped cream by hand... I've never seen this much care go into 1 sundae pretty much ever. Give Catbird a try! You won't be disappointed.

Really good ice cream - interesting flavours, like Furious George (which includes pepper). Friendly people running it too. Hard to find but well worth it. Sole criticism - too much sugar in the hot chocolate.

I went abroad for a year and my top fear was not that I would lose my passport or get deported; my top fear was that this treasure of Westbrook would shut down. Of course that fear was completely unfounded because Catbird Creamery has the most delicious and unique flavors. The quality of the ice cream is only surpassed by the welcoming atmosphere and great customer service.

Wow! Now that's how ice cream should taste! All of the items are made in house. I had the Maine blueberry and caramel on a fantastic cone that they make too. There across from the Bank of America. I'll be back soon to try more flavors!

Great place, great owner. The type of person you enjoy giving business to. The owner was extremely generous with his sampling, he was giving the kids heaping samples of ice cream. The kids loved the Tamari Caramel, Salted Chocolate, and I loved the Furious George, a spicy pepper, bananas, and dark chocolate chip combo. I suggest you go out of your way to visit if you find yourself around this way.

Catbird Creamery is what every ice cream shop should be. The flavors are creative but never pretentious, just 100% phenomenally fresh and delicious. It's run by the sweetest little family (mom, dad, and infant, often present all at the same time) and the dining room is cheerful perfection. So far I've tried the brown sugar vanilla, wild Maine blueberry, tamari caramel, and the cocomocha sorbet. They're all amazing but I believe the tamari caramel is my favorite ice cream of all time. And the waffle cones! They make the shop smell wonderful and they taste as good as they smell. On one visit I took a five-year-old friend who had her heart set on rainbow sprinkles, but once she tried her vanilla cone with real ground chocolate (OMG) she forgot all about the fake stuff. All this for very reasonable prices. Now that the weather is warm it's hard to choose between the colorful inside and the picnic table out back. Parking is available behind the shop, off of Church St. My only objection is that Catbird Creamery is so far from my house, but it's well worth the trip to Westbrook. If you're lucky enough to be in Westbrook regularly, then you have no reason ever to eat at another ice cream shop again.

First time shopper. Was amazed with the rich flavors. We will definitely go back for more when back in town. The sundae with 3 different scoops of ice cream is a great choice. Keep in mind this place accepts cash ONLY. There is a few banks in walking distance. Also it was a tad hard to find, fyi., it is right across the street from Bank of America.

I just had to echo the other stellar reviews of Catbird Creamery. I am SO happy to have stumbled upon this unassuming little ice cream parlor on Main Street in Westbrook. My family visited Catbird yesterday afternoon and were promptly greeted by a friendly young guy who turned out to be one of the owners. He was apologetic for the short list of flavors he could offer at the moment because they'd had a busy weekend (he was in the midst of mixing more batches at that moment and had six available to choose from) but come on - even half a dozen amazingly delicious flavors are still darn hard to choose from. I never choose vanilla - it's at the bottom of my flavor preference list any and every time - but I chose the brown sugar vanilla flavor once I sampled it. It was simply amazing....much more interesting and flavorful than vanilla usually is, with maybe the teeniest hint of a coffee flavor in there. I had the paper city sundae which, with extra hot fudge plus their amazing fresh thick mound of whipped cream, was right up my alley. I got a small for $5 and couldn't even come close to finishing it. Other flavors available that I plan to return to try include ginger, salted chocolate, and mocha walnut. I've heard amazing things about their pineapple sage, lemon thyme, and blueberry maple flavors. Unbelievable. Honestly if I wasn't concerned about my waistline I'd be returning today. Go. Go now.

Legitimately the best ice cream that I've ever had. Flavors are always rotating, but strawberry balsamic, salted chocolate, brown sugar vanilla, and tamari caramel are mainstays. Other flavors are great, too...furious george (banana hot pepper) is amazing, and the blueberry lemon sorbet is divine. The owner makes everything from scratch in-house (cones, ice cream, toppings, etc) including cookies for custom made ice cream sandwiches. My favorite combo is sugar cookies with strawberry balsamic ice cream. Its pretty darn classic, but truly phenomenal. My father is a bit anti-"foodie"-revolution, and went in expecting to hate it because of the creativity, but he decided that it was the best ice cream he'd ever had. None of the flavors are done just to sound cool, and they're all created for a reason. I could go on and on...but let's just say that I'm obsessed, and so is my wife...and everyone else we've introduced to this place. The best part? It's owned by a young couple with a newborn baby (born in June 2013), so it's the epitome of supporting the local economy. Go there. Now.

Wow. Seriously wow. Took the family here for the first time the other night, and we were just blown away. If you want some amazing homemade ice cream with intense, original flavors, this is the place to be. Our lovely server turned out to be one of the owners (the other is his wife) and he was incredibly friendly and let us sample almost all of the flavors they had available that day. It was a tough decision all around, but I finally landed on the Lemon and Thyme (seconds after being freshly churned), my husband got the Ginger, my daughter has the Browdn Sugar Vanilla, and my son got half Furious George and half Salted Chocolate - yes, that's right, two flavors in his small sized portion. Just a word about the sizes - at $3.50, the small is incredibly generous, and a real deal for the quality you get in return. My ice cream had tiny flecks of lemon zest, while my husband's ice cream was chock full of candied ginger pieces. The Furious George was a great flavor combo, with plenty of heat and banana goodness. Can't wait to go back and work my way through the flavors this summer.

Wow what a great place. How did I not know about this? We tasted them all! The flavors change with the seasons. Loved the salted chocolate usually don't get a sundae but who could pass up homemade hot fudge. Flavors unusual and delightful. Try the Tamari caramel or try them all it is great

This place has some of the best ice cream ever and some of the most exotic flavors (strawberry balsamic, blueberry and sweet corn, mojito, furious george...). The owner gives good sized samples, generous quantities in the small size and is very friendly. (plus he likes Jethro Tull and that just puts this place over the top). Easily the best ice cream I have ever had!

This place is a little slice of heaven in downtown Westbrook. Amazing ice cream made expertly by a very talented food artist, oh, and insanely yummy truffles too! Really cozy place to enjoy very high quality "frozen sunshine" as their sign out front says. Go. Now. And often! :)

I like this place even more now...two additional comments: a) very stuck on the following flavors - orange thyme, Lemon thyme and strawberry balsamic b) there is actually parking out the back - the public lot on Church St - and there's even a rear entrance

This place is out of the way just enough so you feel tucked away but SO easy to find! Best flavors, best service and best portion size!

Had a serendipitous experience at this new ice cream shop. Owner Andrew offered us samples of several favors and we had a half and half serving of salted chocolate and brown sugar vanilla. The shop was quiet midday, midweek. It feels like a secret waiting to be discovered! Located across street from Fajita Grill, one block from CVS pharmacy. Will definitely return to taste the lemon thyme and other unique flavors. Reasonably priced and you can turn any flavor into a chip which!

Awesome ice cream shop! Hard to see at night unless you know where you're going. This shop makes great ice cream in some off the wall flavors. Definite must see if you are near Westbrooke Maine.

This is going to sound over the top, but this place really is the best around. The service, which includes samples of as many flavors as you want to try, the huge portions - my wife could not even finish a small - and the originality and creativity demonstrated in the amazing batches of supreme ice cream combine to make this my new favorite place for a treat. I cannot recommend highly enough the Furious George. What a superb combination of flavors! Do yourself a favor and come in. Then go for a run! It's so worth it.

Great ice cream! The flavors are a little creative and they rotate but I ordered Salted Chocolate and Banana Bread. They tasted really good together! You also can't go wrong with a Brown Sugar Vanilla and Salted Chocolate combo. The sugar cones are homemade and great as well. The owner is one of the friendliest people and is more than happy to provide multiple samples. A great find though the sign is pretty easy to miss; we drove right by it the first time. Plenty of parking out back.

This place is flawless. Incredibly rich and flavorful ice cream, with flavors you won't see anywhere else. The owner was super nice, too, and gave us samples of almost all of the flavors. I ended up with the brown sugar vanilla and strawberry balsamic, which were perfect. Wish I lived nearby so I could come here all the time.

Stopped in on our way up the coast and I'm so glad we did. After sampling some options (Furious George was pretty fantastic, btw) I had brown sugar vanilla in a cone (Which is made in house and is delish), and my spouse had Strawberry balsamic and the last bit of the tea and cookies in a dish. The tea and cookies flavor was SO GOOD, but there wasn't enough left for a full serving- No worries though as the gentleman scooped out all he could and gave my spouse a big cookie on the side! (The cookie was amazing too) I really wish this was closer to my home, as it was some of the best ice cream I've ever had. And the service was A++. The owner is so friendly and nice, you can tell he puts a lot of love into what he does! You can be sure I will be back next time I'm remotely close to Catbird Creamery!

So glad I stumbled upon this place! I tell everyone I know to check it out. I wish the city would let them advertise more outside the shop so they can catch the eye of people driving by.

Wow. I came here yesterday with a few friends for ice cream and it was out of this world. We were greeted by the owner behind the counter and he was super friendly and helpful. He makes small batches of top quality ice cream with really fun and unique flavors. Some of the flavors that were on the menu that I didn't try included white chocolate lavender, salted chocolate, maple blueberry, and a flavor called furious George, which was hot pepper ice cream with caramelized bananas and dark chocolate chunks. My friends tried the lemon and thyme, which was so clean and delicious and the brown sugar, which was divine. I opted for the maple walnut. It was hands down the best maple walnut ice cream I have ever tasted, and that's saying a lot coming from a Vermonter. The owner explained to me that he gets his maple syrup locally. It was a really dark syrup that was incredibly rich in flavor which imparted plenty of maple flavor into the ice cream without being overly sweet. Besides the great flavors, the actual quality of the ice cream is outstanding. It is so smooth and creamy. His homemade waffle cones were also top notch. Besides ice cream, Catbird also offers homemade truffles which are equally delicious and unique. I tried the Earl Grey truffle, it was fantastic. Catbird Creamery hit a home run for me. Amazing flavors, local, high quality ingredients, and all at a very affordable price. You can be sure I will be making my way over to Westbrook for all of my ice cream needs this summer.

We were visiting family from out of town and we needed an ice cream fix, but something a bit different. We couldn't have chosen better. +1 to all the previous reviews -- friendly and engaging owner, original and slightly edgy flavors. Locals -- *please* keep this place in business!
