Got some Red Curry chicken from here the other night. The place was busy even though it was almost 9PM, but I still got my order in a reasonable amount of time. I really wasn't sure about pineapple in my red curry as that was a new one for me. In reality though, it added a sweetness that brought the curry to a new level. It was one of the best I've had, and I've had a bunch from many places during my travels. The fried spring rolls were also very tasty! My only minor gripe (very minor) was that it was a little low on the heat level in comparison to many others I've had despite me asking for a 'C' level versus standard 'B'. If you want it spicy I would ask for 'D' or higher.

Outstanding! The curries are fantastic, and the appetizers are all amazing. You must try the crab rangoon, mekhong crispy wings, and pad thai. Exceptional. Service is also attentive and pleasant. The best restaurant in Wells by far.

Probably the best fried rice I've had so far in New England. I don't know what they put in it but it's magical. I thought M's tofu and veggies were only OK but he enjoyed them. They included 2 free salads in our take-out order and stayed open an extra 15 minutes to wait for us (their site says open til 10, but they scolded him and said they closed at 9... whose fault is that?) so all together they definitely deserve a return trip.

Nava Thai's closing in Saco left a big void in my soul. Outside of downtown Portland, nothing else had come close in regards to taste, quality and selection. Recently I had dropped my daughter off in Biddeford for cheer practice and had an hour to round up dinner for the family. With Thai on the mind, a quick search of Yelp pulled up this place in Wells. The race to get there and back began immediately. I was immediately taken with the menu, and wound up with two basic appetizers (dumplings and chicken satay, the latter of which was excellent); Thai Chicken Noodle Soup for my daughter, and two entrees to share: Stir-fried basil leaves and roasted peanuts, and Green Curry with Salmon. The Thai Noodle Soup was delivered like a takeout Pho, separating the broth, noodles, and chicken with seasonings, peanuts and veggies (scallions, baby boo toy). Mixed together, it was stellar. A can myself enjoying a bowl of this on a crisp late autumn day very soon. The Green Curry with Salmon was the rock star. The delicate salmon pulled apart beautifully, with the succulent, thick green curry coating the fish and the veggies to achieve deep flavor. The spice was ballsy but tolerable, dancing on my tongue and encouraging quicker work of my beer. The stir-fried dish had roasted peanuts and hot basil leaves as the leading players, with chicken and colorful vegetables all brought together in a light, tasty brown sauce. Nothing too out of the ordinary here - just a solid rendition of a fairly basic Thai staple. For Thai south of Portland, right now Mekhong Thai is the leading player.

Went there due to reviews on Monday Aug 3 at dinner time. Made mistake of eating outside. Servers were polite but abysmally slow, refills of ice tea took 16 minutes by the clock. Chicken with basil was dry and bland, advertised as spicey. Other dishes were ok, only superior dish were the pan fried ravioli. We were so abandoned we had to.go inside just to pay the bill. Perhaps an off night, perhaps not.

Amazing service and food! So clean and everything we had was fantastic. Loved the fact that they incorporated lobster into lots of dishes. Reasonable prices with terrific service!

this was insanely delicious. We had great service and the waitress made helpful recommendations. They have a scale of spicy-ness to help customize your order. We had fresh spring rolls with lobster, drunken noodles with shrimp, and the BEST dish was the udon noodle soup with duck. The key is to get it with duck because the broth is different for each meat. It was fantastic! We are going back and we're on vacation!

I love this place!!! Nice and clean, extremely friendly wait staff ( family owned). The food is fantastic, what more could you want? We started out with scallion pancakes which were fantastic. Our main course was the tofu drunken noodles and the red curry chicken....phenomenal. The mai tai's are great. Everything is reasonably priced. My five year old loved the chicken fingers and the scallion pancakes. The coconut ice cream is delicious!! I wish Manchester nh had a Thai restaurant this good!!

I can't say I was expecting much. This place is north of the foolishness in Ogunquit center, in that little dead area by the Time Warner criminals (I mean office) in Wells. It looks like a bit of a shack, maybe a small ranch house converted into a restaurant. I was a little weirded out by having to go through the bar to use the bathroom, but c'est la vie (maybe you can grab a drink on the way out or have them keep your beer cold on the way in?). I'm not sure if you find gourmet Thai on the Maine coastline. But as long as it isn't the equivalent of "mall Chinese", these places have a fighting shot. There were still quite a few people there when I sat down to eat at 10 of 9. Menu is fairly extensive, and runs the gamut of typical Thai. I started with the steamed meat dumplings. I was impressed with the portion, but the meat to dough ratio was completely off. I would have been happy with the same amount of meat and simply less dough. It felt like I was eating an oversized, soggy stromboli rather than a petite appetizer dumpling. The meat had some flavor to it, but I think the size of the dough allowed too much water in, and really diluted the flavor. Got the drunken noodles with the combination meats (beef, chicken, and pork). Was a little worried due to the slicing and distribution of the meat. There were big chunks and the cuts were, uneven, to say the least. But the flavor was on point, with a nice spice that built throughout the dish without overwhelming the palette. I didn't think the dish would be much, but I ended up enjoying it. The Thai iced coffee (which is like, wicked Thai), was decent but over priced. But in summary, the place is much better than to be expected in southern Maine. I will try it again and follow up.

Service is always outstanding! Mango Fried rice with Chicken is always done perfect. Appetizers are great Dumplings, Crab ration and the non fried spring rolls are the best around. Parking is ample, lot is clean, restaurant is always spotless. Drink are reasonable at $8-$9.Fog Cutter was excellent.

Best Thai food I have had...and in Maine? From the Tom Yum soup to the Pad Thai to the Red Curry seafood, all exceptional!!!

Food was good; service was awful. It took over an hour to get our food. People who came in after us were getting served before us. Finally the wait staff started noticing. Our waitress must have messed on our order- misplaced ticket or turned it in late. Anyway, all the other waitstaff waited on us instead of our waitress; we think she didn't want to face us since she messed up on our order.

We all went here for the first time not knowing what to expect but all left very satisfied. Apps and all dishes were delicious. I asked them to make Gai Kapow (not on the menu) as it's my favorite Thai dish and it was fantastic. The special Drunken Noodle with Duck was among the best I've ever had, certainly the least oily one. My only issue was that at dinner all the orders were per-person like luncheon specials, not the family style entrees much preferred for sharing. Staff were all very nice. And to my amazement, they had beer on tap (a first for me) and Shipyard Prelude at that. Would definitely go back and look forward to trying the one in Kennebunk.

We discovered Mekhong a couple of years ago. We try to hit it at least once for every visit to Ogunquit/Wells area. All prior visits have been 5 STARS, nothing but greatness. We finally tried dinner. It was an AWESOME experience. Everything from parking to service. We've never had a bad dining experience here at this location. TOM YUM SOUP (Family size) $7 (4.5/5) This is my favorite Thai soup. Secondly Tom Kha Gai (coconut based broth soup). We both loved the soup. It was fresh, delicious, and plenty is size for 2 people; BUT lacked enough ordered meat in the soup. Other than that, it was delicious. GREEN CURRY W/ CHICKEN $11 (5/5) Out of all the curries, this is my fave. I keep coming back to it everywhere I go. And I like it medium spicy. Have the tissues ready for sweat brow. FRESH, TASTY and ABUNDANT portion for the order. (Made up for the soup). I had leftovers. PANAENG CURRY W/ CHICKEN $11 (5/5) This is my partner's fave curry dish. His second fave dish is Pad Thai. He was need of help from the medium heat dish. He LOVED it. Same as mine fresh and tasty as well. He also had leftovers. Mekhong Thai is one of our favorite restaurants in Ogunquit/Wells area. Give it a try. Service is great. Restaurant and bathrooms are clean. And parking is easily accessible. You can't go wrong to eat here. Prices are reasonable compared to other establishments in the area.

Very good food in a very small setting. The atmosphere is different from an average Asian style restaurant. They have authentic decor and a small one floor dining room and a bar. The food is very good and I highly recommend the pad Thai and the mehkong fried rice as well as the crab rangoons. The service is quick but they were a bit TOO attentive; asking how everything was every few minutes. Other than that it was a great experience at an affordable price

Food is pretty good and the prices are decent. We had food delivered and they were prompt. They forgot to include plates and cutlery so I called them back and they quickly re-sent the delivery person with the plates and all. Pretty good experience!

First time having Thai, and if I loved in the area, I would probably come once a week. My Fiance had the orange chicken, and loved every bite, I had the duck, and wish I didn't live over 600 miles away to have it again!

Not too bad Thai food in the middle of Maine. We decided to take a break from our fill of lobsters and clams and go for something spicy. We ordered the Tom Kah Gai - love this coconut soup, the curry puffs - not too bad, the green curry - spicy, the red curry - a little on the sweet side for me, pad thai - a little on the sweet side for me, rad nar - rice noodles with vege - it was OK, rice noodle soup - huge bowl but it was just ok. If it wasn't for Clay Aiken playing at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, I would never have visited Mekhong Thai Restaurant!

  • Sarah W.

Pretty good Thai food for the area! The owners have restaurants in Kennebunk and Portland too... Go here instead of east restaurant! Plenty of parking, try the pad thai here...not the best i've had, but its very good.

My family has been coming to Ogunquit for the past fifteen years, and Mekhong Thai is a wonderful alternative to the typical seafood or Italian food that we usually eat when vacationing in Maine. I ordered a Mai Tai and the drunken noodles, both of which were fantastic. The portions are big, the prices are reasonable, the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly and attentive. We had a great time, and we'll definitely be coming back again in the future!

We vacationed in Ogunquit in May, what a shock to find such an amazing Thai place in quiet Maine. We're both fans of strong flavors, and we loved Mekhong Thai. Food is crisp, full of flavor and delicious. Very friendly staff, our 1 year old had a great time. We actually liked this restaurant better than any place we go where we live north of Boston.

I don't know about anyone else, but as much as I love them, I can only handle chowder and fish so many days in a row. We've been eating at Mekhong Thai II for years (including their old location) and have never been disappointed. The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are carefully prepared. On this last visit we had a green curry with shrimp, and a yum salad with fresh tofu. The staff is great, and we're very happy to support this fresh alternative to "the usual" menus found in this area.

We skipped going out in afternoon to eat most of the leftovers from the other days but we came out in evening to eat at Mekhong Thai and I am so glad we did. We ordered The Three King Seafood dish and the Red Curry chicken and the Thai Dumplings. Everything was really good!! Service was good too!! I love the fried garlic that was on top of the dumplings - it blended well together with the flavored soy sauce. What I loved the most was how generous they were with the seafood dish- wow- humongous scallops with lots of squid, shrimp, veggies in a sweet tasty sauce. The red curry chicken was great too! The chicken was tender!!! My friend is Thai and she approves of the food too. The kiddo loved her food too =)

I was here on vacation with a friend in June 2010 and I ordered Chicken Pad Thai, Chicken Satay and my friend ordered Vegetarian Delight. We were both impressed with the service and quality of the food, however we did not care for the complimentary salads included in our meal. The atmosphere was peaceful and quiet. We were fortunate to find such an excellent Thai restaurant in the middle of nowhere.

There is no question that Mekhong serves absolutely superb dishes with an extremely friendly staff. As a 30 plus Year summer resident of Wells, few of Wells or Ogunquit restaurants deserve five or for that matter three or four stars, but Mekhong is right up there with Joshua's. the food is light, fresh and intensely flavorful.

The food is really good here. It's just as good, if not better, than most Thai restaurants I've been to in New York City. The staff is really friendly too and it's inexpensive. I didn't give the place five stars 'cos the decor is bloody awful, but I'm guessing if you are good at one thing you can't be good at all. Even if the curtains make me shudder, I'll eat here anytime I'm in the area. I'm just happy that it's not interior decorators preparing the food.

I had the Thai Salad - very nice and delicate peanut sauce, and Pad Thai/Scallops. Both were very fresh and very good. They have a spice scale from "A" thru "E", "E" being melt-your-face-off "Thai-Hot" spicy... I've had spicy food so hot that I couldn't taste anything. The "D" spicy that I had on the Pad Thai was spicy, but not so hot that I couldn't taste the flavor... I would guess that the "E" spicy would probably not be quite so hot as to kill the flavor, but that test will be for the next dinner there :-) . Good size portions... Very friendly and efficient staff. Enjoy!

This meal rates one of my rare 5 stars!!! Wish we given up on seafood earlier and gone here first. I had Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. Excellent with enough to take home. My hubby had the pork fried rice and ate every bite. The star of the meal was the seafood soup for two. It was perfect and the tea was wonderful and kept arriving as soon as the cup was empty. The service was speedy and friendly and the bill was only 42.00 including tip. By far my best meal in Maine and the best value.

Very good food. Limited menu, but the quality and portions of the food are very good. Would be nice to see them add some more Thai specialties to the menu though. I would definitely go back. Good value too.

Wells / Ogunquit are lucky enough to have two quality Thai places. The Blue Elephant has the charm, but I think Mekhong has better food. The women in my family never get tired of pad thai with various toppings; I"ve done well with various curries at various levels of spiciness. Red curry with beef and "B" is probably my go-to at this point. We all go for the fresh spring rolls. The servers - including the folks who help you with takeout - can be a little awkward but are very, very nice. Service can be slow when the dining room is full, but such crowds don't come too often. They offer some unusual (in America, at least) beers and other drinks but I can't speak for them. One thing of note is that I swear you get more food when you order takeout than in the restaurant. And, curries come in these sweet hard plastic containers that are very reusable. The decor is mostly just plain to me rather than chintzy or, god forbid, ugly. It's just there. As another reviewer wrote, focus on the food.

Food here is good, it really is. It's not amazing like other yelpers have claimed, but solid. The man and I shared lobster spring rolls and pan fried dumplings (both appetizer specials) and a beef pad Thai and green curry chicken entrees. Portions were good sized, especially the pad Thai. Drinks were strong and fruity, typical of Asian restaurants. We enjoyed thoroughly. My first complaint with this place is with the layout of the dining room. There's just something missing that I can't quite figure out. It's fine...with spaced out tables and lots of light. But the setting is just less than intimate. There's nothing pretty or special there that differentiates the inside of this place from a sparsely decorated basement bar. Lastly, and most importantly, this complaint has taken place now for the second year in a row. Last year, when we dined here, a child serenaded the waitress (and the restaurant) with 3 solos, performed in her teeny tiny shrill soprano voice. This year, we were seated near a table of 5 kids. Really killed our peaceful night. If you're a happily childless twosome, I'd go for dinner as late as possible. Probably will skip this joint next year when we come back to Maine.

Unbelievably delicious Thai! Better than any place I've found in the Northeast. We had the fresh spring rolls with shrimp, beef satay, drunken noodles with shrimp, red curry with chicken and hot basil leaves with beef. Everything is SO GOOD!! The service is fast and all of the waitresses are very sweet and accommodating. I'll be back.

I ordered the Basil Seafood. It was prepared perfectly- spicy and lots of flavor. Very friendly staff. The waitress took 10% off our bill because she thought we had to wait too long for our meals to come out! Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I tried the crab rangoon and Mekhong chicken wings that someone recommended. I thought the chicken wings were great and that the crab rangoon was really great. I also had the pad Thai. It was delicious, one of the best I've ever had.

The food is great. We had chicken fried rice and the curry chicken soo good the mixed drink called a zombie was refreshing. Tonight is pad see eew which is good as well. Definitely worth going to

Hands down, the BEST Thai food we've ever had!!! We have a few select Chinese & Thai places in New York, but we were blown away by the friendliness of staff, speed of service, but most importantly the artistry and taste of the dishes!! Tom Kar chicken soup is the BEST we've had!

Every time I am in the area for vacation, I always make a stop here for dinner. It is clean, quiet and vegetarian-friendly. I usually get the Basil Tofu with brown rice. The vegetarian spring rolls are fresh, and meat-eating family members of mine love the crab rangoons. I will be back!

The ambience was pretty vanilla. The waitstaff was somewhat slow but accommodating. My husband ordered the fried rice and said that the taste was decent but the fried rice had some unusual vegetables and fruits. Snap peas to pineapple, just about had everything in it so be aware. My father ordered the most expensive thing on the menu, twice fried Peking duck. It is one of his favorite meals of all time. He was terribly disappointed once the plate arrived. It was soaked and red curry sauce and had no crisp at all. It was a very heavy dish as well. My mother ordered orange chicken. That plate was extremely small and had more broccoli then chicken. From the taste I had, I would say it was quite dry. I ordered the chicken and shrimp pad which was the hit of the table. They have spice scale between the letter a and F, I should have ordered f because it was not hot enough for me.. Lastly, the wonton soup... The wonton soup had cilantro, green onions and big chunks of broccoli in it. I have never seen wonton soup serve this way and it was not pleasant. It should be a crime to eat Thai food on a Maine vacation. We wanted a change in venue which we all slightly regret.

I wish I read everyone's review before ordering the Fried Pad Thai (recommended by our waiter). Didn't like it at all. But my husband loved his Curry Dish. His curry dish was dynamite. I wish I ordered that instead but would have felt guilty trading in my dish for his. Staff was friendly and might have remade my order. I just couldn't ask. Service was great and the place was clean. Would definitely come back for the curry.

Clean and organized restaurant. Nice and attentive staff. Food comes quickly. Highly recommend the combo appetizer. Great variety and very tasty. The Chicken Pad Thai was very good and not spicy at all. I loved it!! Doesn't look very pretty, but it tastes great! The drunken noodles with chicken is very good and spicy. The whole meal was not expensive, either!! They surprised us. We were impressed and will be back!

I was very pleasantly surprised at Mekhong Thai. First off, the decor's not as bad as the reviews suggested. It looks like any other casual restaurant. The service was very friendly and fast, although to be fair we were the first ones there (it was way early). I love the fact that they offer a spiciness spectrum, although on this occasion I did not test it out. Yummy spring rolls and Thai iced tea. I tried out their pad thai with tofu and it was quite good. I loved the way they did the tofu - generous wedges that are crispy fried on the outside and meltingly soft on the inside. Very few restaurants get their tofu right, so i'm a fan. The pad thai was sweet with a generous portion of sprouts and rushed peanuts. I think this is now my favorite Thai place.

I'm giving this 5 stars because I wouldn't have expected very tasty Thai food in a small Maine town. We have gotten take out the last 2 nights and it has been delicious. I'm tempted to order again from them tonight!

Absolutely delicious ! Last night we shared veggie Pad Thai for dinner and had the spring rolls for an appetizer, just enough food for two! Friendly wait staff and fast service!

I'd rather go here than east for thai food, but its a little more expensive than my usual choice at east. They give you a ton of veggies and it always feels way more healthy than east (granted i get chinese there not thai). I usually get some stir fried chicken in a sweet and sour sauce. Comes with a good amount of chicken, veggies and some rice on the side. Great meal.

Quality pad Thai. Spring rolls, crab Rangoon all very solid. Would not expect this great ethnic option in Maine.

We took a party of 8 to Mekhong, and while it took a while for us to get seated, the food was exceptional. The flavor profile of each dish was different and all were made to a perfect spiciness (maybe I could use a little hotter...). Often, many different dishes pick up a similar flavor, but not so at Mekhong -- each dish, from the Pad Thai to the Panang Curry, were all very different (I even noted a small herb garden out back -- the proprietor told me he uses them all in his food!). The Tom Yum soup was hot and spicy and a great way to start things off with. We were looking for something different after several nights of seafood, and Mekhong served the bill perfectly. Very gracious owner and staff as well. Go -- you won't be disappointed.

Awesome Thai food. Whenever I need a great Thai food fix I always hit this place up. I am a big fan of their drunken noodles dish. They are also not afraid to bring the heat. So if you like spicy food then definitely hit this place up! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and easy/quick take out. You can never go wrong with this place.
