This place is great, very quiet, good selection of films, and fair prices. The space is nice and we always have fun there.
Love this place. Would highly recommend l for movie lovers that don't want to watch whatever is in main stream media.
I have been going to this place since it opened in 1978; the cinema was housed in a converted meat packing plant and the seats were old auditorium wood-backed seats bolted into the concrete floor, but the films they showed were totally different from what was available anyplace else. What still surprises me to this day is how this place ended up in Waterville and actually survived. Waterville in 1978 was a mill town with a college, and maybe that was enough. I started coming here in high school, and to say this place developed my taste in films is an understatement. I still remember the films I saw there in the late 70s and early 80's before I left for college- Xica da Silva, The Gods Must Be Crazy, several Woody Allen films, Messer Im Der Lump. They were showing these movies in a mill town. In Central Maine. Wow. And the Railroad Square Cinema not only is still in operation, but is recognized as one of the best independent theaters in the United States. And every mid-July they host the Maine Independent Film Festival, which draws people from all over the world. Last year Jonathan Demme presided with his newest film, then after the presentation invited the audience to party with him at a local restaurant. Where else does this happen? So in a matter of 35 years, the Railroad Square Cinema turned a cruddy mill town into a film buff Mecca. Think I am indulging in hyperbole? Check this place out as soon as you can...I dare you to contradict me.

You would never think to stop here because it is hole in the wall. Totally authentic and amazing food. Well worth stopping. Take some home. It is a gem!!
Met a friend for lunch here last week. I've wanted to try the place, but I'm in Waterville so infrequently for lunch that I've always by-passed it. Basically, it's what I'd deem a hole-in-the-wall bakery/luncheonette. Food is inexpensive and getting ethnic food in a place over-run with chain eateries is always a plus in my book. Unfortunately, my beef shawarma was so-so, with the meet dry and the wrap tough (as in stale). The flavor of the spices on the meat were great, but the woman who owns it wasn't friendly at all (I'm guessing she probably never is), plus they were out of spinach pie, which others have raved about. Green beens and rice didn't do anything for me as another choice. When I left the tiny (and very dark) eatery, my clothes reeked and I had to air them out later. Not sure if I'll give it a second chance, or not. The similar Lebanese/Middle Eastern meal I had in Providence two weeks ago was so superior.
Nice people, good food, authentic and sincere. The meat pies are great and I like the Shawarma and Felafel. The baklava is sinful. The cookies are also tasty. A nice undiscovered country if you're looking for something unique and straightforward. Keep walking if you are super hungry and short on cash.

Really good food Who would have thought that I would find good Mexican food in Maine? Try the red cabbage salad. It is a nice light substitute for rice and beans
Lovely location and set up, cozy, but not too crowded. Excellent service. Fairly good margaritas, and solid Mexican food for this far north! I didn't appreciate the entomatada option, but other than that the tamale, chile relleno, and pulled pork taco were great. I especially appreciated the homemade flour tortillas.
Excellent food, excellent service - great people! I highly reccomend you take the time to visit. Try the salsa, it is home made and THE BEST!

Adequate Mexican food, as long as you've never left Maine, and a pleasant staff, but certainly not compelling enough for the 45-minute waits on Friday or Saturday nights -- and now they don't do take-out. Have I experienced better? Yeah -- in any hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant in Texas, New Mexico, or Southern California. So long, Buen Apetito.
Such an odd little place, Buen Apetito. Looking for some Mexican food on a random Saturday afternoon, we stumbled upon this place, walking first into the movie theater next door before realizing the entrance was around the corner. The first thing that struck me was the chips and salsa already laid out on all the tables. My first thought: "Oh great, stale chips..." but after sitting down, I realized I had jumped the gun. The salsa options (one tomato based; one avocado based) and the chips were nice and crunchy. Perfecto! I ordered black beans and seasoned rice while my compatriot chose the chiles rellenos. I found the beans and rice combo to be simple and delicious and the seasoning was great! One thing to note, which is definitely by no means a fault (in fact, this could be fantastic when sharing dishes), is that the serving size for the meals is gigantic. The plate of chiles rellenos was massive and could have easily served 2 people comfortably. All told, this was a great little place that I'd be happy to patronize again! Drooling just thinking about those beans... :)
Food was less than sub-par, I ordered the shredded beef tacos....bad choice. The meat was flavorless, the corn tortillas were wet and soggy, I couldn't even pick the taco up without everything falling out of the bottom. There was way too much lettuce on top and the tomatoes were old. I had two bites and refused to finish because it was so bad. Pushed my full plate of food to the end of the table and of the three different servers that came over no one asked what was wrong. My check was not comped even though I didn't want a box and left a full meal there to be thrown away. I understand this is Maine and not Central America but the food is a far cry from being " Mexican" cuisine. I will never visit this establishment again and I suggest you do the same.

This is a fun restaurant. The place has a 60's hippie dippie vibe. There was 60's music playing. The restaurant is casual and threadbare in a countercultural way. There's a big brick oven in the restaurant and that's where the action is. We had a couple of pizzas- one eggplant parmesan and one chicken pesto. The pizzas are interesting and artisanal. They are almost as if the cooks had starting making pizza after reading about it, but never having eaten any. The resulting pizzas are good, but very rustic and non-traditional. It's much more fun than any other pizzeria in the area.
Wow! This place hasn't been reviewed yet? It's doing everything right. My two teenage daughters and I stopped by here on a Thursday afternoon (8/11/11) for lunch. They offered a brick-fired pizza / all-you-can-eat bar at $7.95 per person, including salad, soup and bread. EVERYTHING was delicious, especially the home-made salad dressings and especially the brick-oven pizza - chicken pesto and several other varieties when we were there. Our server Elizabeth couldn't have been more attentive. This is a cool place!
The restaurant has a funky, cool vibe, and it's a nice place to go with friends. It's also unique as one of the few places in the area to cater to vegans. Half of their pizza menu is dedicated to veggie pizzas. They offer soy vegan cheese, although I wish it were Daiya instead. They also serve a number of local beers, which is nice.

The hours on yelp are wrong. I come most mornings at 7 am. A hour sign in the window would be helpful.
For those of us who are tired of driving to the Starbucks by the dreaded Walmart parking lot, Selah Tea Cafe is a great alternative. This place doesn't just sell tea, but coffee, hot chocolate, and lattes, too. There's even soy and almond milk available for you vegans and dairy-free people out there. Plus there's plenty of seating for reading, internet surfing (do they call it that anymore?), or just hanging out with friends. Selah is something that I'd expect to see more towards Portland, but Waterville is apparently building up its hipster (not just hippy) culture. Hey, there's even an Indian restaurant down the road from this place!
Great variety of teas. I think the green teas are good. Great homeade soups and sandwiches. Very comforting on a day off to lounge on the couch and plug in my laptop and drink tea.

The atmosphere was very nice. My Wife and I were seated in the bar as we didn't want to wait for the other section. The reason for the dinner was it was my wife's birthday and I wanted to take her somewhere we haven't been before and I know she likes Italian so it was a win-win. Overall the food was slightly okay at best and the wait was pretty bad, however I really just wanted to enjoy the conversation with my date for the evening so I was okay with it during the moment. The food was hot and wasn't warmed over and late to be served to us. The only bad thing I will say is that for the price it was pretty simple of an entree. I ordered the veal Simbitacco I believe. Pretty much veal in a sweet sauce with prosciutto smothered in cheese. I also ordered it with penne pasta and a house salad. The salad was very tasty, however I was very disappointed in the penne pasta, I was sort of expecting a homemade pasta for the price, not some store bought pasta that was lightly covered in the sauce from the rest of my meal. Overall it was a simple meal. Not to say it wasn't a tasty meal, just not what I was expecting for the price. During our experience the drinks were more than strong enough to keep us talking through the night as each of our drinks were STRONG! I really appreciate the strength of the drinks as for the price I felt I was getting my money's worth per sip. Lastly the dessert was very decadent. They came out to show what they had to offer instead of showing you a description and hoping you'll like it. My wife and shared the raspberry cheesecake (my ultimate weakness!!) from the first bite I was everything but disappointed with my dessert. Full of richness and big enough for me to share and enjoy still. The bill was about what I expected for the evening. I can't complain one bit about the atmosphere and if you are bringing a special someone out for a date or just want to enjoy a nice Italian meal then please stop in, I'm sure they will get faster as they get more business. I hope they next time we are more patient to wait for the actual "dinning" area so that we can get that experience. Pros - warm atmosphere - strong drinks - great food Cons - wait time - price of meals (simple entrees I felt)
Having grown up Italian-American very few italian restaurants can deliver, this one was OK, but.. I ordered shrimp fra d'avlo the shrimp were tuff (overcooked) and a bit old tasting the sauce was really good though. Service was good, not great.
Just had a lovely meal. We were quite pleased with the quality of the food. The service was very attentive. They have several options that can be made gluten free, including a GF penne and they even brought out GF bread. The server was very knowledgable about the ingredients in each dish. A lovely treat in Waterville!!
