Spending a weekend in Boothbay Harbor. We read the reviews and headed over to Southport for a nice seafood dinner tonight at Robinsons. Nice to go a bit off season to miss the crowds. My husband had the lobster roll with a bit of mayo, lots of fresh lobster. Our server, Kristen, suggested the Seared Tuna appetizer with seaweed salad. It was seared well and a good sized portion as she promised. He also had the calamari which was crispy and crunchy. Yes, he has a "good appetite". Attentive and pleasant service from Kristen. Thank you.

Maine Shore Dinner consisted of a lobster, chowder, steamers, and slaw+corn. Oh, what a delight. The clam chowder is seriously divine. The lobsters were being loaded off the boat and into the tanks while we ate. This is fresh seafood! We also thoroughly enjoyed the blueberry pie. It was really really tasty.

Have had dinner here twice this week. Twin lobster special, scallops and haddock with newburg lobster sauce and steamers all very good. Would recommend this place over other resturants in booth bay. Staff were all very nice.

Went there on the recommendation of a local. My maine dinner was great BUT my friend's meal was really bad. He had the fried scallops and they were so greasy he couldnt eat them. Change the fryolator oil! Waitress was good & gave us some $ off. Very comfortable & picturesque atmosphere. Pinic benches out on deck right next to dock & on the water.

We have been to Boothbay Harbor twice now, and visited here each time. Twice on the first trip! Try the Lobster Club. It is a very tasty sandwich and takes the typical lobster roll up a notch. Food is very good. Service is generally ok, not great. Still worth the visit though.

The hostess was very friendly and sweet, as was our waitress. Our food and drinks came out promptly and as ordered. All the employees were very nice. We sat on the deck at first but once the lights came on we had to move inside and that wad absolutely no problem for the employees. My food was fresh but my boyfriend thought the place looked dirty.

Thank you Robinson's. My mother-in-law had 50 people scheduled for a clambake and boat tour for a wedding party. The boat cancelled 3 hours before the trip and we were left scrambling. Robinson's was able to fit us all in, and serve a great shore dinner of lobsters, steamers, and corn on the cob to everyone. The food was great and the service outstanding. Thank you again for the great meals.

The wife and I along with friends ate here last July (2014) and again just last week. A really nice place, with a great view! I can't say the food is "awesome" but it is very good and very reasonably priced. The staff is great and always politely helpful. Our favorite place to sit is on the upper outside deck. One friend had her usual lobster, which she raved about. I had a cheeseburger, that was nice and juicy, cooked perfectly (medium well for me). The fries, and other side dishes were very generous in their portions. All six of left quiet satisfied! We plan on comig back again year!

Please don't waste your time or money. This place is really awful. We went on a Monday at lunch time. It wasn't crowded. The menu looked like it had some delicious items. Keep in mind this place is a lobster pound and should be getting fresh fish. NOTHING was fresh at this restaurant. I really believe everything came directly off the Sysco truck and from the freezer. So not only was the food awful, the service was even worse! It took us over an hour to get our food after we placed our order. Don't eat here. Ever.

Sad to say that our meal at Robinsons Wharf was a disappointment. We have been coming to the area for years and dining at Robinsons was one of the highlights. After a two year absence the food was not the amazing fresh lobster and seafood served in years past. Tonight's shrimp cocktail seemed to be made from defrosted supermarket grade product that was on its last legs served with a clearly bottled cocktail sauce. The mussels were just ok. The clam chowder was not the rich creamy chowder with lots of sweet clams and freshly cooked potatoes. This chowder almost seemed canned, a tremendous sin for any self respecting waterside restaurant. Finally, the steamed lobsters were missing the sweet essence of the sea I've come to love and expect in Maine. The flavor was watered down and a bit off... Not awful, but far off the mark for what should be the highlight of the meal. In Robinsons favor, the food is priced fairly reasonably and our server was attentive and tried her best to please. Overall, a disappointment, especially given some of the delicious meals we've had in years past.

Best lobster restaurant ever!!! Lobster boats were literally unloading lobsters right on the dock where we were eating. Lobster roll was soo fresh and full of lobster meat. Roll was grilled and nice tasting. Portobello mushroom sandwich was excellent. Fries and rings were nicely fried and not greasy. Great seating outside on lobster dock. Friendly host and waitress. Host actually came and got us in our car when our table was ready outside. Covered outside seating under umbrellas or shading. Huge menu with something for everyone. Fast service. Bar and interior seating. Live lobster tanks, gift shop, ice cream parlor. Been going here for generations and it is always excellent and better than the time before.

Went in July of 2014 and there was a deal for 2 1lb lobsters, great corn and good cole slaw for $18.95. Great deal for the area. The portion of steamers weren't great, but they were very tasty. Great blueberry pie!

Started off with slow service, but waiter was really friendly. They forgot to put their beverages on the menu, but they serve Pepsi products. This place has a great atmosphere and a beautiful view and the outdoor seating was amazing. Waiter was extremely slow and brought drinks out 2 at a time. His excuse was they were slammed, but he was seen hanging out by the restrooms doing nothing. Took forever for him to take our order, but food came out pretty quick. Food was great, but service was slow and that's why I didn't give them 5 star

Went back after several years (we're frequent Summer Boothbay residents) based on friend's recommendations and were very disappointed in the size of our lobster -- we ordered one and a half pounders -- believing we'd get large hardshells -- and what we got were puny soft shells with hardly any meat. Our wait person semi apologized for not clarifying our order. Corn on the cob was not sweet and juicy. Cole slaw was good. You'll do a lot better at Lobster Dock or Lobster Wharf in East Boothbay. We've (again) crossing Robinson ' s off our list. Over rated by others we think.

Been summering on Southport for 40 years and have seen all the iterations of Robinson's, but was really let down--the food was slow (1 hour from order to table), cold, and underwhelming. They are understaffed with empty tables--on July 1????? My stuffed haddock was not stuffed, just overcooked with a sauce on top. The twin lobsters were cold and undercooked--how do you mess up lobster? I will go back in five years or so--the next iteration. Until then I will drive to the harbor.

Five of us stopped into Robinson's for dinner Tuesday night. The place was fairly crowded but be got seated downstairs quickly which was fine with us because it was cold and foggy outside. They had a nice selection of craft beers and wines by the glass. I had a nice dogfish head and alagash I love a place who carries a beer selection with sole. Our waitress was great and honest with every question we asked her about the menu she came back with a no nonsense response. +1. I had the scallops Winslow, which had lobster newberg sauce over them with some decent chunks of lobster in the sauce. My friend had the tuna with wasabi sauce which looked good and very rare but I was told lacked some flavor. The mussels looked good and I was told they were good and had a nice broth to soak up with the bread. Me being not an oyster person my buddy who sucked down a dozen said that the glidden point oysters were some of the best he's ever had. They were large in size, meaty and the salinity was spot on.

Total letdown. We went there 3 years ago and it was a memorable experience so when we decided to get fish we went back last week. The fish was overcooked and chewy. The hostess seemed annoyed to have to seat us. While the waitress was pleasant she never came back to check on our meals or we would have sent it back. Fries were cheap processed potatoes. For $16 for fish and chips we expected something better.

Cheap Sysco fries and a thin over cooked piece of what might have been frozen haddock for $16. Went here 3 years ago when the food was fresh with natural cut fries and homemade onion rings . Went from 5 stars to 2. Friendly service but the food is awful. Plenty of other places in Boothbay region that have fresh seafood. Very very disappointed!

Another great lunch @ Robinson's Wharf. Last time here was a 2 1/2 pounder. Never again! Today was Maine Shore Dinner, basically clam chowda, steamers, 1 1/4 # Lobstah! corn! & coleslaw. Lots of food but ooooh so good. I love this place.

We stopped here on our way down to Newagen and had a delicious lunch of seafood fondue (proof that cheese and seafood DO mix), clam chowder and a lobster roll. All of it was delicious. The view was enough to get my cold-weather-phobic wife to sit outside in October, too!

This review is more for their sea food market. During the first week of July, soft shell lobster is $4.75 a lb, steamer is $4.5 lb, plus $0.5 per lb if they steam for you. It will take about 15 minutes. The price is almost half compare to other lobster spot and they are just same good. I ordered fried clam from restaurant, it's ok but not great. Clam chowder is blank, just taste of cream, nothing else. We didn't eat here since we stay in a lake front hotel near by and travel with our silly doggy girl. But even in restaurant, twin lobster is $19, you can not beat the price. others told us their oyster is great. But I was concerned the hot weather may not good for raw sea food. I heard it's better have raw sea food only during months with r, that's from September to April, :)

Robinson's Wharf overlooks a small, working harbor and the view is incredible. It's a big place with plenty of indoor & outdoor-deck seating, and there's even a little gift shop next door. Its waterfront location at the head of Southport Island, just down from the swing bridge and a mile outside of the touristy Boothbay Harbor, is perfect. I truly think they could serve baskets of fried cardboard and still have customers. Thankfully, they don't. There are fresh, local, Glidden Point oysters, coconut-milk-&-curry mussels, sesame-seared tuna, and lobster fondue. They also serve very good pasta, fried seafood, & burgers. I've been there on several occasions and the food has always been great. In addition to the food and the location, some great, local musicians play upstairs in the bar. Each time we've gone, they've been in residence playing Americana, rock, blues, etc. on mostly acoustic instuments. And I'm talking original music in addition to cover songs. The band is great. Finally, there's the friendly attitude and great service at Robinson's. A large group of us had come up for a weekend of kayaking. I made a reservation for a party of 12 to 15 for a Friday night. During dinner, our number swelled to 21 as people arrived at different times. The staff made every attempt to seat us together and accommodate our varying needs as best they could. Everyone was pleased with the food & service - so pleased in fact that after driving around Boothbay trying to find another restaurant that could handle 21 of us, we decided we would just head back to Robinson's on Saturday evening as well. Most of the other restaurants balked at accommodating our group or wanted to shunt us off in a less-than-optimal seating area. In contrast, Robinson's welcomed us gladly, served everyone efficiently, and even moved us inside when the temperature dropped outside on the deck. (Our only complaint was the scuffle that ensued in our group over the last piece of blueberry pie. It sat in the middle of our large table for long minutes until the server brought out a dozen or more forks. It was devoured in seconds and unfortunately, not everyone got a piece of it... More pie next time, please!) I really can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant. The location, the food, the music, and especially the staff all make this a remarkable place.

Great little place right on a cozy little harbor. Nice place to sit outside, enjoy the beautiful maine sunset and get some fresh seafood. Good drinks (try the Bloody Mary) and a decent lobster roll. Friendly staff!

Born and raised in Maine but due to military commitments, we left back in 1995. Just spent a week in Southport for a family reunion and Robinson's was our first stop on our first night. As good as I remembered...even the burger my husband selected since he (crazy) doesn't eat seafood, looked good. We had plenty to eat and paid a fair price.

My wife ALWAYS has to go to Robinson's whenever we visit Boothbay Harbor. It 's the best seafood there is! She had their twin lobster special for $18, as did my son, however, he filled up quickly on appetizers and drinks, so my wife wound up eating a total of 3 lobsters! My first choice they were out of (butterflied shrimp), so I had the lobster club sandwich, which was LOADED with lobster meat! Also had my first taste of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey in a mixed drink (with ginger ale) - very tasty! Their lobster stew was off the chain! Loaded with lobster meat, came out steaming! Had to let it cool some before eating it! Prices were good, about $100 for the four of us, including drinks ($7 each). Highly recommended!

The food was fairly good, except we had to wait for an hour and a half for it. Our server was "younger than our socks" and seemed burned out in August from a full season of tourists. She brought drinks fairly quickly, but then we had to wait a long time for simple burger and sandwiches. Eventually, she came out and confessed that our ticket was lost, and we were offered a free round of drinks. The food was great, the service was pretty awful. Maybe it's better at the height of the season.

OMG LOBSTAH. (and clams.) If I lived in Boothbay Harbor, I would be 400lbs because I would stuff my face daily with the tasty fresh goodness at Robinson's Wharf! My 1.5# lobster was so sweet I barely used the butter. So fresh too - was in the water until I ordered it (sorry dude, but you tasted GOOD!). Also, some of the best fried clams I've ever had. Excellent chowder too. Guinness on tap. Need I say more? Oh yes, the ambiance - great! They have an outdoor deck with table service, an indoor bar-ish area w/ table service, and a downstairs deck where you can order a la carte at the counter (slightly cheaper down there). Only one thing bugged me - the bugs! Beware of the mosquitoes. Fortunately if you're being eaten alive (like I was), the waitstaff has bug spray and will either bring you a can or reseat you! 5 enthusiastic stars for Robinson's Wharf!

  • Joshua M.

Slow service. Bad attitude: "Sorry, I'm too busy to remember all those drinks." Cold steamers. "Sorry, we're really busy" in a half-empty restaurant may work on New Yorkers who don't know better; but I grew up in a seaside tourist town (Newport) and live in seaside Massachusetts, and find all of this unacceptable. Up your game, guys.

This place is classic - you must go here if you're in the area. My family owns a house on Boston Island in the Sheepscot - we pull the boat in from Boston Island and grab a lobstah's and a couple of beers.

  • Leo L.

A consistent winner, but I wish they hadn't "upscaled." The food quality is about the same, but the prices went up with the table service. So we went from a great deal to a moderate one. Gotta pay the bills I suppose. So what's good about the place? Great, sweet, simple lobsters cooked on demand. Haddock dinner is excellent as well. Our only disappointment from close to a dozen trips over the years has been the steamers - gritty and over-cooked - but it could have been a bad night. All in all, a solid 4 stars - nice ocean air, fresh food and plenty of room for the kids to walk around and explore (when you're an early bird that is).

  • Sara M.

Our first visit to Maine, this place was recommended to us, so we decided to check it out! While the prices were good, the food was brought to us lukewarm at best, and the service left a little to be desired. Our server wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed! The flavor of the food was good, but like I said, it was lukewarm/cold, and my husband said the clam chowder lacked flavor. Maybe it was an off day? I don't know, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're just going for drinks.

Admittedly it has been a few years since I have been here... I don't live back east no moeah. Was back in Boothbay Hahbah visiting friends and took a drive heeah, was just a few weeks ago and went to a sub-par place and then later saw Robinson's and made a sad face knowing I'd missed out! This is the freshest lobstah around, yesuh. This is the place the locals will take ya for the freshest lobstah. Highly recommend, sit outside with your silly lobster bib, get all messy cracking open the claws and pulling out all of that delectable meat. Mmmmm. This is the way to enjoy a whole lobster and steamers. I'm sure they may even throw in those lovely lemon scented wet naps still. So good!!!

Heard about this from a "local" & headed away from the expensive not so tasty BoothBay tourist places to this close great little spot. Last night I had a $24 1.25lb lobster served with rancid butter in BoothBay & tonite had 2 perfectly steamed 1-lb ers for $23.00 It is worth the 10minute drive. The soup was great also with a very generous portion & the swordfish special was exceptional!

You know, Maine is really just like the pictures............. Imagine sitting on an outdoor wharf, at a picnic table, having a pound-and-a-quarter lobster with melted butter, looking out over Townsend Gut, watching the lobster boats come and go, admiring the for-real, bright red tugboats tied up to the wharf, the seagulls are trying to steal your potato chips and your lobster, and the sound of the cars droning over the open-grate steel bridge just around the bend.......... Pick em all, but having a lobster, properly cooked in boiling brine, along with an ear of corn, wow. One of many many quintessentially Maine lobster pound and eat-it-here lobster cookeries. Also serves burgers, dogs, home-made pies, little plastic glasses of wine, even a beer or three. Upstairs, new a couple of years ago, a BAR overlooking the same scene. Great night life, until it gets dark under the kitchen table. (Go to bed early, as the sun gets up at about 0430 in high summer.)

The prices and the quality of the seafood are the best in the area. It is, however, the service where they fall down a bit. I think I was there when the last reviewer was there...with all their very little kids running around loud and wild. This isn't, however, a review of other diners but of Robinson's which has changed dramatically in the past year to offer more inside dining space. I remain a huge fan - we come every Summer for a month or so, we eat more often here than anywhere else for good reason.

Food is very well prepared; terrific atmosphere. Haddock Chowder at Robinson's Wharf was by far the BEST Chowda we had in a swing through Boothbay, Bar Harbor and Boston. Do go, do enjoy! Price keeps this well done lobster pound and restaurant from being 5 star - the price is the same as what you would pay at tourist traps throughout Boothbay and more trafficked areas.

They have some good seafood here and some of the best lobster in the area. This restaurant is off by itself so there isn't as much hustle and bustle as there is in the middle of town. This place is right on the wharf and has a lot of outdoor picnic table seating with a smaller indoor dining area. They had closed the upstairs deck, as the season was ending in a few days, so that was a bit of a disappointment. The service was a bit slow at times but overall I enjoyed my meal.

Ever.

We love to take our boat across the Sheepscot River with our friends when we are in Maine. He's a local fisherman and loves to go here. We like the scallops and fried clams. Classic Maine - in the rough dining!
