Good gyros are few and far between in Maine. Most places that offer them just throw frozen gyro meat on the grill and toss it on an ungrilled pita with sour cream. Having grown up on Kronos gyros in the Region, (you'll know where I mean if you know Kronos) I was immediately intrigued, yet not hopeful, as who would expect to find one of (I'm petty sure of this) the three gyro spits I've come across since I moved to Maine twenty years ago. The other two are in the market on Congress in Portland and my favorite (and most fun) - the traveling organic, wholistic and thoroughly hedonistic - the guys at the Fryeburg and Common Ground Fairs. Please let me know of others as I cannot have found them all. Oh yeah, the gyro at Yianni's is excellent and worth going out of your way if you have a gyros jones going on. I usually avoid wheat but this pita was grilled to perfection and I am happy to have used my WTF it's really good go ahead and eat wheat anyway allowance for the week on this indulgence that I usually only spend at the Standard Bakery in Portland or the incredibly buttery croissant from Dicocoa's in Bethel. Even though I avoid wheat, I find that most gluten free substitutes taste like a cross between styrofoam and drywall so I usually use my free passes on regular pizza. I have also tried the gluten free pizza here and found it better than just edible and far better than drywall. This is a far better option than the franchises in Norway. They also serve 22 oz draft beers.
Stopped here on a recommendation from Zolt who owns the gem mining place (Western Maine Mineral Adventures) in Woodstock. Pizza and garlic bread are excellent. Pizza was piping hot with a nice crisp crust. Definitely would come back if we are in the area.
Try their Greek pizza - it's to die for! Perfect crust, perfect amount of toppings. Delicious!

For years, I lived down the road from Market Square Restaurant and never got a chance to visit. Sure I wanted to, as friends and relatives heaped praise on the place, but sometimes things just don't work out. Well, while we were taking a scenic and ambling drive up north, we found ourselves somehow back in Paris and were also quite hungry. I figured now was a pretty good time to try it out, as I was in the company of someone who'd never been as well, so we went on in and were seated immediately. It was before the end of the normal work day but well after lunch so it wasn't very crowded, definitely a difference from what I used to see even when we were just passing through to Sunday River. The waitress was extremely pleasant and friendly, and was probably one of the best waitresses/waiters I've ever had! She gave us enough space to enjoy our meals while still managing to show up whenever we needed something else - regardless of what it was. To start, we had the Potato Skins were just amazing and, for the price, was a very generous portion (8 large skins)! They used real bacon, cut into smaller strips, instead of bacon bits. The skins were huge, and had a bit more potato than I'm used to on potato skins but it was definitely better that way. The only downside was that the sour cream was on the side, so it was very cold and didn't seem to go together with the very hot potatoes... although I suppose we should have just mixed it together! Next I had the Turkey Club with fries, and my boyfriend had the Chicken Parmesan sub with fries. The fries were handcut and very tastey, and our sandwiches were very good. The turkey wasn't deli meat but actual, thick slices of turkey breast. My only complaint was my bacon was slightly crispier than I like it, but my boyfriend tried some and didn't seem to mind! I tried a bit of his Chicken Parm and it was simply delicious! The chicken was just the right level of crispiness. We were too full for dessert (and had to take half our food home with us!), although I'm sure it would have been amazing; and we were pleasantly surprised about the free refills - especially since the soda didn't taste very watered down or syrupy at all. Overall, the restaurant had a very homey/small-town atmosphere, which honestly it should as that is what that area is. I always felt comfortable there, and this restaurant really captured that feeling. It is real honest, simple, and good food - and not very expensive at all! If we hadn't ordered the appetizer, it would have been just about $10 per person for what we ordered, although if we had an entree it would have been closer to $15/person. For the price though the food was very good with good portion sizes! Highly recommended if you live in the area or are just passing through on 26.
Stopped in for breakfast. Service was awesome! The food was good, eggs were cooked perfectly! The ribeye breakfast was wonderful. Planning on checking out lunch and dinner here too!
Food was good. Service was okay. We sat at the bar to avoid taking up room at a large table. Waitresses gabbed about customers and tip amounts as well as about being out of multiple items. Complained about having to make chocolate milk because they were out. My boyfriend I and work at Disney so we expect top notch service, something we felt we didn't get due to the complaining going on behind the bar. Focus more on customers and keep the rantings out of customer earshot.

A great place for date night. I always end up getting steak and am never disappointed.
Recommended to us by the innkeeper as her favorite restaurant, we decided to go to dinner there while in South Paris, Maine for the night. I had scallops (mistake) and my friend had the Haddock, which was all over the menu in a bunch of different preparations. I should have done the fish. She enjoyed her food very much, while I thought that the scallops tasted like a chemical. My side dishes were just fine. Don't think there's a lot of choices in town, but other than my choice on the menu, it was good enough. Stick with the fish.
Was treated to Maurice's after conducting the school district's Honor's Orchestra Festival. The venue is really inviting. The lighting was just great, the music wasn't annoyingly loud. The waitress was really calm and she checked on our party just at just the right interval. I had the duck which was really good! Then dessert I had a blueberry bundt cake. Ummmmm.. I recommend Maurice's to anyone that wants some sophistication while dining.

Mayflower Chinese Restaurant

Mayflower is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the Oxford Hills area. The food is consistently high quality and the dine-in experience is great. The place is clean and has a very nice bar with wide selection of exotic drinks. Appetizer highlights in my opinion are the boneless ribs, beef teriyaki, and cheese wontons. Their lomein and orange chicken are incredible. This is also the only place in the area with beef wide rice noodles (sometimes called drunken noodles) and is a must try! Their Mai Thai's are addictive and their Blue Hawaii and Scorpion Bowl drinks really round out the overall excellent dining experience at the Mayflower.
Price is right. Buffet was gross. Can't beat do-it-yourself ice cream and my son said the chicken wings were good. It's an ok place to eat if you order off the menu. Avoid the buffet or eat at your risk. The best thing is the female waiter. Incredibly sweet, helpful and attentive.
Got take out today and was very pleased. I wasn't sure I would find decent Chinese in the area. I had teriyaki beef, eggrolls, and pork fried rice. The price was great and the food was very tasty. The service was also very pleasant and quick. I'll be back for more. It looked like they had a decent price for their buffet lunch as well.
