This place is a sad sad example for a breakfast spot, the decor inside is SCAAARY Waitresses are raggedy looking. Bacon is THE cheapest version possible that you can buy from us food vendor or sisco, the price is ridiculous for a paper thin, flavor desired portion of so called bacon, unacceptable. No butter or jellies on table - or creamers for coffee?! Speechless

Thought instead of going to the all day breakfast that we would visit this small place that always looks busy. When we first walked in we were told to sit anywhere. The only tables available were ones right in the door so it was cold ever time the door opened. My husband order a soda and realizes there are no refills allowed. The large size was quite pricey (2.25) and it was the size of a can soda. The large kids drink was in a regular cup which was shocking cause we expected a kids cup for the price. The size of the pancakes were great but they tasted very starchy and were not cooked in the middle, so if you like eating batter you will like this place. It took a long time to get our food. A table who came in after us got their breakfast right away. The place is so small that you could here the older men sitting at the bar swearing and having disagreements which I found inappropriate when there are younger kids sitting at our table. Total bill at the end was high for three people at breakfast.... I will not return here again

Had a good breakfast here on a Sunday morning. We got a table right away. The waitresses are very nice and attentive. The menu is pretty extensive two egg specials to lobster eggs Benedict. They have home made muffins and home made bread. Make sure you order some for your toast! I ordered two eggs over easy, grilled breakfast potatoes, corned beef hash, and home made raisin toast. It was a lot of food and all of it was good. The potatoes were cooked perfect and not mushy. My eggs were over easy just right. Huge order of corned beef hash, I took half to go. The coffee was good and refilled often. We took a few muffins to go to have later. My husband said they were awesome. This place is open for lunch and dinner. Next time I'm in Sanford I'm coming back for pie!

The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because not EVERYTHING I had there was perfect (don't get the side of spinach, for example). And it's certainly a family run place, and just from sitting there, I think I know a little too much about the family that I didn't need to know. However, this is my FAVORITE place in the area, and I go repeatedly. I would go for every meal if I could, and eat my way through the menu. They are SO good about food allergies, and they have a massive gluten free menu. And I don't know what they do to the GF muffins, but they're seriously addicting. I've had the reuben, which was greasy goodness, just like a real reuben. I had the special lobster benedict with GF english muffins and it was crazy good. I've enjoyed the hash. The pumpkin GF pancake (oh, they made it special, shhh, I didn't tell you that). And pretty much everything has been great. There's no health food. They have no idea what a vegetable is. That saddens me. But I love it. And I'm excited for their new 2nd location too.

Good clean breakfast. Not too greasy family-owned good food extremely friendly owner who introduces herself to you and welcomes you it's the usual suspects for food but it is consistent and what you would expect and that's huge when it comes to food consistency is everything

wanting to stop near our place on the lake for a late breakfast we discovered Mel's though a search on Yelp and were not disappointed. Friendly servers, met the owner and the wall murals alone are worth the trip - very talented artist must have spent hours on the walls - good news is the food is just as good as the murals. Husband had the sampler - 2 eggs, sausage and bacon and your choice of French Toast or pancakes. He chose the pancakes and was presented with 2 huge, 8" fluffy circles of happiness! I had 2 scambled, bacon, deep fried home fries and toast. everything is a winner here - service, food and get this real ice tea made from real tea bags. We will be back - and we were told they have another location in Springvale - run by the owner's sons.

Mel's is a great place with excellent service and great food, the waiters/waitresses were very nice and provided exceptional service. The building was not messy/trashed. I was there for lunch; I had Some fish that was done / cooked excellent. Great Place.

Been coming frequently for the last few months, and last week, the pancakes tasted old, and reheated, and were not the huge, amazing treats I traveled 45 minutes to get. When I brought it up to the manager, he barely said anything and then said well then do you want me to take it off the bill? What was I suppose to say? I didn't allow him to do that, but he should have just taken it off the bill and not asked. Since the whole table ordered pancakes and were not happy. You have a gem of a place, don't change anything, but be sure your batter is fresh and your manager and staff know how to handle a complaint. I was not even offered a replacement. She had the guts to ask me if I wanted a box to take them home. I won't give up, but I hope you tell your staff to think before they respond to a complaint.

Food, not too bad, not great, cute place if you like lots of flies buzzing you while you eat :(

Exactly what you want in a breakfast joint. Tight-knit atmosphere. A staff that knows you and remembers your regular order. An endless supply of good, hot coffee. Fresh, tasty food in generous portions. Easy on the wallet. I always get the mushroom, onion and tomato omelet with their special crispy potato fries (they're almost like tater tots, only yummier). There may be a line out the door, but you won't have to wait long.
