If I lived in Rockland, I would go here at least once a week. My fiance and I followed a friends recommendation when we were on vacation. It was easily one of the best breakfast experiences we have ever had (okay, two of the best, seeing how we went two days in a row!). The food on its own is wonderful, fresh, delicious. But my fiance, who has celiac disease and is strictly gluten free, had the easiest time ordering here. The waitstaff and kitchen staff were completely knowledgeable about which items on the menu were gf and what could be subbed in to suit his needs. The first morning I had the Traditional Bennie and he had the Meat Me At Home frittata - with grilled polenta on the side instead of toast. Both dishes were delicious and the option of polenta for a gf side was perfect - I wish more places would catch on to that idea! Realizing he could have the Bennies after we had already ordered, we decided to come back the next morning. I have never seen my fiance so happy over breakfast out. His Bennie over polenta was just perfect - every gf breakfast lovers dream! They serve Rock City coffee, which I believe is roasted right down Main Street. There eggs come from a farm in Waldoboro. The owners dad makes delicious looking cinnamon buns that would be great with that local coffee! A true family joint - I will find a way back someday!

Welcomed with friendly smiles from the staff. Good service and a excellent breakfast. So good that I'll be having breakfast there again tomorrow before I head back to Massachusetts.

This place is a no brainer. My girlfriend and I wandered in for breakfast on a Monday morning while in the area visiting family. The atmosphere is fresh and clean, great decor, and the outside deck looks like it must be amazing in warm weather. We knew we had chosen the right place as soon as we had a sip of their delicious coffee. Full featured breakfast menu, great quality food, attentive staff. You can't go wrong. We had blueberry pancakes and traditional eggs benedict. Everything was perfect - wouldn't hesitate for a second to return. As a self proclaimed food snob who never writes reviews this is not to be missed if you are in the area. Enjoy and thanks to the staff for great work!

The Hoff and I stopped here to start the day. I was told that I should order two pancakes because they aren't that big. Well, the pancake was as big as my head, so I really didn't need two. I had them with blueberries, which were tasty. The restaurant boasts "real Maine maple syrup" but I'm not a maple syrup person, so I abstained. I probably should have tried it just to see what it was like. The Hoff had the oatmeal brulee with blueberries and oatmeal bread on the recommendation of our waitress. He seemed to like it. I've never heard of bruleeing oatmeal, but it seemed to work. The coffee was adequate, but not great. The staff were very friendly and someone - not our waitress - asked us three times if we wanted more coffee. Overall, a pretty good experience.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. I didn't enjoy the wait to be seated but I realized why as soon as we received our food. Outstanding !! Mac and cheese with Asiago was great. Home fries were memorable, all in all absolutely would come back

This place is pretty dang good! They have a wide range of items that are sure to please any ones food taste. I strongly recommend the BLT; it had wonderfully fresh cut lettuce and tomatoes and perfectly crispy bacon. The bread is awesome (fresh baked every day!) and no matter what you put on that bread it will taste amazing! Also, the Thai Chicken Salad is delicious! The chicken is not dripping juice but not dry with a hint of spice that really adds a nice kick. Everything else is nice and fresh. The lemonade was a bit sour but that can be fixed with half a pack of suger which in conviently placed on all the tables AND on EVERY spot at the bar. To top it off the fresh baked boston cream pie, god that is AMAZING. I reccomend this place and to all the people saying that the service sucks; well, you try running a packed resturant with people overflowing out the door with limited wait and kitchen staff. And it is all about timing. I went in around 11:30-12:00 on a Monday (Summer Break!) and got seated in about 6-10 minuets. So this place is a must try you will not be dissapointed!

The Home Kitchen Cafe, what can I say? The breakfast here could ruin your day. But everything tastes just the right way. It was the best meal of our entire stay. Get up in there with no delay. The huevos rancheros was (were?) delicious. I couldn't finish it (them?). The eggs weren't overdone, the beans were tasty and the avocado and salsa tasted fresh. The side of homemade sausage was a highlight of the meal. They accomodated my picky kid who wanted a hamburger for breakfast and my not-too-picky kid that wanted a simple breakfast sandwich. The ice coffee was good but the hot coffee was a touch weak (diner style I suppose for people like Mr Pink: "Look, I ordered coffee. Now we've been here a long f*ing time and she's only filled my cup three times. When I order coffee, I want it filled *six* times") . The hot chocolate was decadent with a mound of whipped cream. The place is very laid back. A great place to relax while you wait for a heaping plate of breakfast. It's a little shabby around the edges but that makes it feel comfortable. The people working there seem genuinely happy to be there and so do the customers- good energy to go with your massive breakfast. they have outdoor seating if that's your thing. Be forewarned: the Home Kitchen cafe will tempt you with enough delicious food to cripple a big chunk of your day. Go slow. Be careful. Enjoy!

Home Cafe is better than ever with expanded dining room and deck. The new dinner menu is terrific as well. The owner is on site almost all the time and the quality is consistent. We had dinner there the other night and it was excellent.

We were in town for a week and this was wonderful respite from more expensive meals that were not always terrific quality. Comfort food, but more interesting versions. Great migas and sticky buns, and the huevos rancheros had a nice chili kick. Especially friendly wait staff, really notable these days and during the summer season too.

This is one of my favorite breakfast spots anywhere! It's not much to look at from the outside. It's just an old house next to a Dunkin Donuts on the highway in Rockland. But what is happening on the inside is amazing! First off be warned you may have to wait for a table. This place is very popular, good places are always full, but trust me Home Kitchen is worth the wait! I was lucky as I was going out solo and scoring one seat at the counter is not so difficult and I was able to find my solo seat! The service is down home and homey. You will be called "dear" or "honey" by the wait staff and served a smile with your coffee. I had a lobster omelette with polenta and it was amazing. The omlette was packed with big pieces of lobster and had a great taste. I looked around my neighbors at the counter and everybody had something great. The pancakes are huge and filled with Maine blueberries, the sticky buns and pastry looked amazing. Everyone who worked here seemed happy and it created a sense of a good time for everyone in this space. Being I was at the counter I could see the kitchen and the cooks also seemed full of life and were happy and joking with each other, happiness came across in what they were serving out of their kitchen! A happy kitchen creates good food! This was my first time, but it sure won't be my last!

Went here on a whim with my partner and we were so happy with our whole dining experience. Great atmosphere, wonderful staff, and the food was delicious. My fish tacos had fresh avocado and cilantro on them (and homemade corn tortillas!) and were easily the best fish tacos I have ever had. My partner's omelette was, and I quote, "hands down the best omelette I have ever had!" Go to this restaurant; you will be happy you did!

Yelp saves me again. Great service, awesome food. Large selection. Gonna eat here every time I visit Maine.

Been here twice in one week and probably a third time before I leave. Great service across the board, cheerful and smiley, I think they drink a lot of coffee because of the energy and positivity of the staff. The food is awesome, if you are there for breakfast , you have to try the Mac n Cheese Benedict! AmaZing and portions are generous but not overwhelming. Menu is diverse and lunch is great too. I'm from san Diego and their fish tacos and huevos rancheros are legit. I wish I could take the Home Kitchen Cafe home with me to Cali, I would be there weekly!

  • Grazyna S.

I turned to Yelp for help as I was driving through Rockland and found this place. It deserves every star and I'm glad this is where I decided to have lunch. They have lovely outdoor seating, the staff is attentive and friendly and the food (lobster tacos and German chocolate cupcake) was amazing. Loved it!

It's been 7 months since I ate here, and I'm still craving the burger. Yes, you read that right: the BURGER. I'm from Los Angeles, have lived in New York City, and I have to say, despite those places being foodie meccas, I have not had a burger as tasty as the one I had here anywhere else. SO good. The baked goods we took to go were delectable as well. Everyone had a delicious meal; my very picky foodie friends were blown away. Will definitely be returning, and looking forward to their renovated spot! Only down side was that it was a bit crowded when we got there, so we had to wait a few minutes for a table. WORTH IT. I'm usually wary of places that have a million different cuisines on their menu (and this is an extensive menu), but their chef is by far up to the task. Don't think twice - run over there for a meal!

  • Vanessa V.

Quite yummy, huge menu, and cheap. A good combination. Add the Rock City coffee and we've got a winner. It took about 20 mins to get a table for 4 on a Tuesday around noon, but it was totally worth it. The only minor problem was that they were out of sinnies! The couple we were with got the last sticky and it was delicious, so we'll have to come back another morning for that. Not that I have a problem with that or anything :)

  • Derek S.

Ate breakfast here twice. Had huevos rancheros the first visit and the breakfast burrito the second day. Both were good with a touch of homemade. A friend had the homefries (potatos) as a side and I tried them. He didn't like them because they were "too peppery" but I thought the red and green peppers and onions were good. Also tried the polenta, which was good with a little apple jelly on it. I do not recommend the iced coffee. It was regular coffee with ice, which was watery and unimpressive.

  • Beth B.

Everything I have ever eaten here has been amazing, and I am local, so I've been here a lot. Love the atmosphere, the service, and nothing is nicer than sitting outdoors on a sunny morning eating your breakfast.

  • Thompson L.

Great brunch spot located minutes from the Lobster festival. Lobster omelet, Lobster eggs benedict, Lobster tacos, Lobster fritata and Lobster hash... perfect for the traveling lobster junkie like myself. If you have a chance to order off the Maine lobster menu... their polenta is fantastic, they bake their own bread so it goes great with runny eggs. It was crowded even on a Monday so get here early!

    (5)
  • Laurie T.

HKC is well worth the trip. Don't let the lines deter you. You'll be glad you took the time to wait. Everything is fresh, locally sourced & made to order. Get here early if you want a homemade sticky bun. They sell out quickly. You can even take a loaf of the homemade bread with you.

  • Robert Z.

This place seemed popular with the locals and it was easy to figure out why. It was a bit of a wait on a Sunday morning, but well worth it. The Philly cheese steak breakfast sandwich, eggs benedict, and sinnies were fantastic all in a laid back atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend.

I went to Home Kitchen Cafe for the second time today and was just as impressed as I was during my first experience. I had the French toast the first time which was SO GOOD--absolutely the best French toast I've ever had... Today I wanted to try something different so I had the Bennie Mac (essentially eggs benedict on top of mac and cheese: two poached eggs on top of grilled Mac and cheese on top of wilted spinach, all covered with their homemade hollandaise sauce). It was definitely different and to be honest I'm not sure I would try it again; I loved the eggs Benedict part and the Mac and cheese part but I wasnt sure I loved the combination. My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito and absolutely loved it, and also enjoyed a "freakin good pancake." We will definitely be back..! Great food for a reasonable price? No complaints!

Best food we had in area. My picky family loved everything! Food was creative and well prepared. Service was great. Wish we lived closer. What a treat. Don't miss it!

  • Kevin B.

Try as I might, my mouse can't click TEN STARS -- but I would if I could - I had a special -- Brisket Benedict, on toast points! I also got the recommended "Sinnie - a homemade cinnamon roll, which was a perfect addition. The brisket was perfect and taste jumped from the plate. The Hollaindaise was plentiful but not overwhelming. It was rich with flavor and this ended up being a perfect morning symphony on a plate. I think I can say, it was the best thing I have eaten in months. The counter help was warm and unobtrusive. I will return as soon as I can make that 3 hour drive!

This restaurant was recommended by a friend in the area. What an unbelievably creative breakfast and lunch menu! You could have either at any time during the hours of operation. We were there for breakfast on a Sunday morning, and it's a good thing we went early, the parking lot was soon full and there was a line of people waiting to get seated. Menu items are homemade with local and organic ingredients. I had homemade granola loaded with lots of goodies and my husband went for the more traditional breakfast with fresh ingredients and homemade toast. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely go back.

  • Shannon C.

Service was the only reason I didn't get 5 stars..went on a sat am, small wait for a table. The woman that greeted us was awesome, but our waitress ended up being far less engaged with us. Food was good...the sinnie bun was tasty..the sticky bun was sold out by 9:30 am so we didn't get to try. Ordered the huevos rancheros and an egg sandwich with sausage...both were quickly prepared and very good.

Can't believe these guys aren't on Yelp yet! My husband and I were seeking a good breakfast place while on vacation, and he found Home Kitchen Cafe by searching Google Maps for coffee near Thomaston. Hey, whatever worked to lead us here is just fine by me! We looked at their menu online and were pretty happy with what we saw, so decided to give them a shot. Amusingly, they're located next to a Dunkin Donuts. I feel sorry for the people who get a mediocre coffee and egg sandwich at DD, only to see Home Kitchen Cafe afterwards. I had the Huevos Rancheros, which were quite tasty and flavorful. The salsa had a bite to it, enough to wake me up, but not too spicy. My husband had the granola and a grilled Sinnie (cinnamon roll). I was lucky enough to get a few tastes of the roll - yum! The coffee was really good, and came from Rock City Roasters, a local coffee place. On vacation, our rule is no repeats. We want to experience as many different places as possible in our limited time, so we don't go back to the same place on the same trip unless it's REALLY good. So anyway, the next morning, on our next visit... :) Of course we went back! I had a special this time, the crab cake bennie. The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise was clearly homemade, and their oatmeal bread was a good base. The crab cakes could have used a little more spice, but that's a personal preference. I got a side of the seasoned home fries, which I'd forgotten to try the previous day. I'd order them crispier next time, but again, personal preference. My husband had the Meat Me At Home fritatta, which he enjoyed. Tellingly, the couple of locals I mentioned this place to also raved about it. It opened up in February 2009, so it's clearly not a seasonal touristy place. Go there quickly and "discover" it before the guide books get ahold of it and you can't get a seat. When we return to Rockland (and we will) we'll definitely be back.

We live a few towns over and have been here twice. The first time was a 4 star experience, very good food. This last visit the food was OK, but the service was rude. My wife received a laughably small tofu scramble, a tiny portion you might expect as an appetizer in a French restaurant, not for a hardy homey breakfast. My wife politely pointed this out, the waitress basically barked at her "what do you want?!" and was just defensive and rude. Not even a token apology. Then she continued by pretending my wife wasn't there, not making eye contact or speaking to her or offering her a coffee warmup. In the restaurant business you can't afford to be rude to paying customers like that. We won't be back. Oh, and the huevos ancheros? I've had much better.

  • Nathen S.

Cool cafe with good food. Great menu. We'll definitely be back. I had the migas which was good but the sour cream would be better on the side. I also like some spice in it which this didn't have. Cool decor and great location. Definitely recommended!

This wonderful gem could do with a catchier name, but after reading traveladvisor.com reviews I chose it for breakfast with my parents while in town for the Maine Lobsterfest. BEST traditional eggs benedict I've ever experienced (real Canadian bacon that does not taste like a slice of ham!) The sticky bun was perfection with the excellent coffee that was served (which I understand is also made locally). I am not a fast eater, but I was so engulfed with my own meal, I hardly remember what my parents ordered. My Dad go the Home on the Range, with real home-made corned beef hash which he enjoyed very much. I will definitely remember this place if I'm passing through the Penobscot Bay area again :) Thanks so much!

Fantastic home made corned beef hash and fish tacos. Great menu.

  • Jay B.

The food was very good and sitting on the deck on a sunny fall morning was lovely, but the service was definitely sub par. Granted the place was busy, but it took us about 40 mins to get our order (and the table next to us said they waited an hour!). During that time, we were rarely asked if we wanted more coffee - to the point where we just started getting it ourselves. Not what we were expecting given the other reviews. But the food was good enough, and the menu interesting enough, that I would probably give it another try to see if our experience yesterday was an exception. So - 4+ stars for the food and menu, but only 2- stars for service; averages out to "3 and we'll see."

I decided to eat out for breakfast and avoid the pricey room service or other breakfast options in my hotel (I was on a trip for work). I drove by Home Kitchen Cafe the night before and made a mental note to try them the next day for breakfast. I ate at the counter and I was surprised at how creative the menu was. I also loved the fact that clearly it is a place the locals enjoy (I think one of the employees was eating nearby to my seat on her day off so that's a very good sign!). I tried one of the egg dishes and it was super tasty. I also took a cinnamon bun for the road and heated it the next day in the toaster oven--yum! Also, make sure you park on the street as the lot fills up and is a little tight. Enjoy!

OMG....My bf and I found this place by consulting Yelp and we're so grateful. We love food and ordered more than me could eat but it was all soooo delicious. We had the Garden Benny (Eggs Benedict), Blueberry Pancakes, and a Blackened Haddock sandwich. Each plate was full of flavor and each bite made my eyes roll back in my head. Oh and I almost forgot we got a Sticky bun (homemade of course) and Hit Road Mac w/ bacon to go. So we're on our way there now. Beware they are only open til 3pm...I'm curious what dinner would be like there, probably just as amazing.

Amazing and you must try the Bahn HOME sandwich. We plan to come back here and we recommended it even to our inn keeper who was unaware of its existence.

I am happy we went here near the beginning of our vacay so we can keep going back. It was closed on Tuesday and we drove by and told it we'd be back tomorrow. I had the migas which were very tasty. My dad had an omelette with generous portion of ham, and my mom had a frittata, which she lived. The waitstaff was very friendly and chipper, and the place is cute, not fancy. Tomorrow it will be hard not to just get the migas again...

  • Eric B.

One of our very favorite places. We come up here every year and eat at all the fancy well known places (and love them) but nothing feels quite the same as the Home Kitchen. It truly feels like home and the food is great!!

    (5)
  • Paige B.

Really great breakfast and lunch. My favorites are their home made cinnamon buns as well as the home on the border omelet. However, I have to say everything I've ordered here for breakfast or lunch has been delicious!!

  • Thomas D.

Good greasy spoon style breakfast/lunch place. Nice atmosphere, well done food - a great casual place to stop in for breakfast when you don't want the bill to be to high. They had a good variety of food and it was all well done - could have been better, but it was about what I was expecting. The waitstaff were great and friendly, and we got seated in just a few minutes even though it was a busy Saturday morning. (It looks like it can be a bit of a wait for larger groups so plan accordingly) Couple minor critques of the food: The eggs for the omelette were too stiff (over beaten) - so it wasn't fluffy at all. And the huevos rancheros had chili powder in the sauce which was a little odd - it tasted like chili. Given it's about as far as you can possibly be in the US from Mexico so it's acceptable :-p Overall, I would definitely go back again.

To start with, my ONLY complaint about this place was that it is too far away for me to visit regularly!!! My friend and I were up in Rockland for a special event and after we had decided to get lunch before driving back to Portland. I was scrolling through yelp and saw all the great reviews. I'm so glad that we looked around. First of all, they have these amazing cinnamon rolls. I had one for a starter and it was so good that I purchased another to bring home for my father. I then had the Bennie Mac, which consists of fried macaroni and cheese, spinach, and a perfectly poached egg. Heathy? Absolutely not. Delicious and totally worth it? YES! My favorite thing about this place was not the food but the employees. My friend and I were not regulars but the employees regularly struck up conversations with us and our server ( who's name I sadly forgot but had dip dyed blue hair) was both quick and efficient but also super kind. If you are in Rockland, make it a point to stop here. :)

Went here with a group of 4 on our last day in Maine. Food was pretty good but the best part was the huevos rancheros and their sticky buns. Def a good stop for breakfast or brunch!

Amazing breakfast! Chorizo frittata, Lobster Benedict with polenta , Huevos rancheros, Sticky & Sinny Buns...just to name a few of their outrageous choices. Looking forward to finishing our last two days of vacation with breakfast here! Do not miss this place!

Had 2 eggs, home fries and polenta. Everything tasted homemade and the service was great. The waitress recommended the peanut swirl siracha ice cream from the shop in the back. Can't wait to try it.

Here on a bike trip with 8 others from CT. Best corn beef hash I've ever had! Poached eggs were cooked perfectly!

  • Cate N.

I would give 3.5 stars if I could, but the staff was all incredibly friendly and helpful so I'll round up. We just didn't find our meals to be memorable (pancakes for one of us, chorizo frittata for the other). On the plus side, they were quick bringing things out and were very accommodating in fitting a high chair at our table for our baby.

Rustic throw back it genuinely feels like it could be a spinoff of Cheers and the blueberry banana French toast and Home Fries were ww that's short for greatness.

  • Vinny G.

We were in Maine for a week on vacation and enjoyed Home Kitchen so much that we ate there 4 times for either breakfast or lunch. They check all the boxes for breakfast...home fries, service, coffee, pancakes, omelettes, and sides were all terrific. The home fries and huevos rancheros were especially good, and eggs were always cooked exactly to order. For lunch their sandwiches on homemade bread were great as well. Portions were large and prices more than fair. You can't ask for more. We were there before the summer season so, although very busy, crowds were not a problem.

  • Chris C.

Outstanding menu, with all day breakfast and lunch, like reading a book! Everything us fresh and homemade. I went for the gyro lamb patty with feta and tzatziki. Everyone there always super friendly, the place deserves all the great reviews. HKC is a great breakfast and lunch spot, be prepared to wait for a table.

  • Derek A.

Oh so good - not sure if you could find a better breakfast place for miles and miles around. Only downside we experienced is that it can get CRAZY busy on the weekends in the summer, and if they lose the upstairs deck due to weather (which happened to us) then be prepared to have brunch, even if you showed up for breakfast!

  • Tom T.

We went there for breakfast with kids. Its a good place to eat BF, nothing spectacular. We liked the omelet, Huevos, etc...Agree with other reviewers about sticky bun. But, I am not sure if it is a 5 star kind of place.

Some of the best breakfast food you'll ever eat in your life I had the lobster eggs benedict unbelievable their homemade porn hash is awesome too

The sticky bun alone was worth the trip up from Cincy. But then we had the Bennie and the Home Grande. I've never been so satisfied from a good meal in my life.

Had pancakes, egg sandwich with oatmeal bread, and corned beef hash. Everything was nicely made and tasty. Also good prices. My wife noted that my blueberry mimosa was our most expensive item. We took a sticky bun to go.

  • Jenne B.

Excellent spot for breakfast! We had a short wait to sit on the deck and it was definitely worth it. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros which was delish! Homemade corn tortilla, spicy black beans with perfectly poached eggs. It's a huge portion but you'll eat the whole thing! My boyfriend ordered eggs, bacon, homefries with peppers and onions and a pancake. Everything was wonderfully fresh including the homemade rye bread which I had a sample of. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Home Kitchen Cafe transforms butter, sugar, eggs, meat into mem'ries. A true find thanks to Yelp - driving to the grocery store, my brother-in-law and I were about to resort to McDonald's when I found HKC. Once we saw the bustling crowd at 8:30 on a Saturday morning, we knew we had hit gold. Sitting at the counter, the sticky buns were right in front of us and disappearing fast. We shared a cinnamon bun (at which point we were both full), an order of home fries, and he got an omelet while I had the eggs benedict. I spent years eating brunch where I always ordered eggs benedict, hoping to find a hollandaise sauce I liked. HKC wins, hands down. Their homemade (made every day, according to their menu) tasted tangy and light, and really added to the dish. I loved the corned beef hash. The potatoes were good too, but we were too stuffed to make much of a dent in them. Order some cinnamon buns to go, or special order to take a family breakfast up a notch. I would LOVE to know their recipe. The bustling ambience was nice for us, since we were seated (I highly recommend the counter; it was comfy and not too high for a shorter person like me). I could imagine for those waiting, it's a bit boring as there's not much space to wait. Overall, the price was very reasonable, and the service was attentive. I can't wait to return next year.

Cute little place right on the main drag of town. The service was great as was the food! We originally were going to sit outside but then got cold and decided to move inside. I felt like I was bothering the staff to be moved but they were awesome about it. I highly recommend this place based on service and food alone!

While in Rockland, ME for a week of vacation my family and I had a number of opportunities to sameple the many restaurants in the area. My wife and I especially enjoy going out to breakfast. The fare at the Home Kitchen Cafe is the best. It's freshly made with the best ingredients. We had an omelette and a frittata which were both great. Wait staff was good too---friendly and good to refill your coffee cup. Menu is huge!!!

Great local spot, definitely go there if you want a nice home cooked breakfast and to pick the brains of the locals. The food was very fresh and the service was great. I had the salmon omelette with polenta which I haven't had in years, I don't ever see polenta on the menu. My friend had a salmon Benedict, very good as well!!!

From the line out the door on a holiday Monday, Home Kitchen must be the breakfast joint of the area. And it's really good. An absolutely enormous menu with every choice imaginable (but not fancy), quick refills of coffee, and a comfortable setting brought a great weekend to a close. I wouldn't come to Rockland just for this breakfast, but if you're there, you'll leave satisfied.

Seriously the best breakfast I've ever had! No joke. I had the Home On The Border Omelet, with sautéed onions, roasted poblano peppers, red and green bell peppers, black beans, pepperjack cheese, side of sour cream, and side of homemade salsa plus customized with egg whites, adding mushrooms & roasted red peppers plus side of avocado. This was just fabulous! I ordered the gluten free toast , awesome! I had to also try the gluten free pancake, so glad I did, better than my son's regular blueberry pancake, without any butter or syrup on it, just awesome! I eat a bodybuilders diet, and have to say everything was fresh and not oily or any unnecessary additions. Very happy when order egg whites and zero oil evidence on eggs or plate without even asking for no oil. Wish I could try all of their items, 3 hours away, but will go back! Awesome looking cinnamon rolls, just had to buy a couple cinnamon rolls they have some packaged to go, going to freeze for next cheat meal, they said they freeze all of the time. Check the pictures for full menu I captured and food pictures. Go here, you have to! Very clean and friendly staff. Rooftop deck dating too if it's warm. My son's scrambled eggs were also showing no oily residue without asking. Can't wait to go back... Also take a sailboat ride in Camden on Morning In Maine, very nice sailboat and Captain!

Stopped here one brunch-time while on our recent trip in Maine. This in-between time meant that while my husband was ready for lunch I was still in breakfast mode. No fear: breakfast is served all day long here. I love places like that. We were lucky enough to get a seat on the upstairs patio which was lovely. Our server was very pleasant and we enjoyed chatting with her. My husband got a Reuben sandwich which is one of his go-to favorites when out for lunch. On the menu here though they spell it "Rubin". He thought the corned beef was tender, lean and delicious. He was a happy diner! My omelette was called Pigs Boogie and I immediately had a vision of piglets dancing in a conga line. What did show up instead was a beautifully fluffy omelette that was filled with applewood smoked bacon, cooper cheese and roasted red peppers. It was amazing! It was filled perfectly so that with each precious mouthful you got a little bit of everything. And the omelette was still so light! The omelettes are served with toast of your choice or polenta. Although I am no longer eating any grains I did order the polenta so I could take a bite of it since it used to be a food I really liked. But since the deleterious effects of fats have been measured in the presence of high carb intake, I left it at one bite. It was just okay anyway as I felt it needed a bit more time on the grill with a tiny bit of char or grill marks on it. The wait for our orders seemed a tad long...even the server thought so but we were in no rush. When the food arrived it was hot and fresh and because everything was so good, the wait was worth it. My one complaint is around the food presentation of my dish. It arrived looking so blah! There was the yellow omelet next to the yellow polenta. I am all about an attractive, well-thought out plate of food. Had even a sprig or two of greenery been added or a small portion of fruit...something with color..it would have made a big difference to the presentation! To the Chef: remember: we eat with our eyes first, so please dress up a plate a bit before sending it out. We've been discovering more and more places in Rockland Maine which tends to be the less popular neighbor to more touristy Camden. But Rockland has a lot to commend it not the least of which is fewer tourists. We will definitely return to this place.

Fantastic lunch. Fish tacos cradled in homemade corn tortillas were the best I've ever had. Son had hamburger on homemade roll. Everything is cooked from scratch. If you order the Whoopie pie, wash your hands first, because the delicious chocolate cake is sticky, and you're going to want to lick your fingers to get every morsel.

Simply some of the best food you will ever eat. The food is delicious and truly like what you would make at home. I travel up to Rockland Maine area every few months and this is the first place I stop at, and usually try and go every morning, it's that good. Nothing around can compete!

Great spot for breakfast while on our vacation. I had a Chorizzo Frittata and the wife had the special - lemon-blueberry cream cheese french toast. Mine was good but I was very jealous of the french toast as it was truly AMAZING !!!! We also had a couple of blueberry mimosas that were a great way to start the day. If in the area I would not hesitate to go back here again for a very good breakfast. The sticky buns are also very good as we got one to go and ate it later that day.

LOVE the diversity of the menu and LOTS of options for us vegetarians. Great service and the quality of the food was awesome. Perfect pricing and something or everyone. If you can't find something you love here to eat, you should just go by a microwave and stock up on crappy frozen food and never leave your house to eat. Love this place.

A bit if a wait for lunch, but that's expected in Maine in August. Good food freshly made. Super nice staff, I'd definitely recommend.

Very good food once it finally came. (They don't accept reservations) The huevos rancheros was great, home fries were cooked to perfection. The poached eggs, blueberry/chocolate chip pancakes were also very good. The goat cheese and roasted red pepper omelette was skimpy on the goat cheese and red peppers. The sticky bun was delicious. Would be nice to have fresh juices to accompany the food. Atmosphere was sunny and nice. Friendly waitress. Would gladly go back

Every town should have an HKC. A slightly upscale, homey breakfast place beloved of locals and tourists alike. My wife and I both opted for bennies - eggs benedict served over polenta, based on earlier Yelp reviews, Her florentine with spinach and tomato, and my Irish (corned beef hash), were excellent with perfectly cooked polenta and eggs, Home fries are extra, 2.00 with peppers and onions and well worth it, A few criticisms - the polenta needed salt, and the prices are a bit steep given the dishes did not include potatoes.

Once we got seated, we waited soooooo long to get our food. We probably waited an hour. We were there with two kids (6 and 1.5) and the wait was brutal. Our waitress said they were short a cook. But that's too long to make a family with small kids wait for their food. Once our food came, it was good. I had the First Wrap, which was very good. My husband said his eggs benedict were not cooked as he requested. Eggs were not done right. We waited too long for him to send them back. My son had the pancakes and he seemed pretty satisfied. My daughter had the cinnamon roll. which she LOVED, and a side of eggs. I thought the food was solid, but not sure it was worth the wait. I'd have to try their place again to get a good sense of it. Certainly, not terrible.

Great hippy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Interesting daily specials. Good coffee. Amazing blueberry pancakes and a delicious "Meat Me at Home" frittata that was not too dry. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a casual breakfast experience.

Warm, friendly atmosphere and delicious food. The staff was great at accommodating someone with celiac disease. They were out of gluten free bread but had polenta to offer instead which was delicious. Everyone in our party loved their meal and everyone left with a full stomach! We will definitely be returning when we are in this area again.

I have never been here before. I have driven by it every morning on my way to work and keep saying I needed to go. Today I tried their Hit the Road Mac and Oh My Goodness! was it good. The staff were very friendly as I waited to pick up my meal to go. I called my order in and they were great. I can't wait to try something else.

there's a reason why the HKC is consistently ranked #1: the food is amazing. I've been coming to HKC at least once a week since they opened and I've never had a bad meal. In fact, their food is off the charts: fresh, ample and served with a friendly smile. I can't wait till they start serving dinner again.

I have heard so any good things about this restaurant, therefore we went there for breakfast. It was ok. Honestly nothing special. I had pancakes and home fries and boyfriend had omelette so maybe we just didnt pick the "special" items or maybe we should go for lunch/dinner. We also didnt have a great table, we were right in front of the door therefore every time someone come in the cold air blow right in on us

Fresh off the ferry, we headed to this down-home brunch spot based on yelp reviews. It did not disappoint. It was busy but we were promptly seated and the service was friendly and quick. We had the lobster omelette (I know - typical tourist,) and lobster bennies. Delicious homemade bread and good coffee! I would go back many times as there were countless dishes I wanted to try. It's like a friend said about frequenting strip clubs: "It's like being in a candy store with no money!" A worthwhile brunch destination, fer sure.

Greatest breakfast venue in Rockland by far! The specials are always great and the varied menu makes it an adventure every meal . Don't let the wait scare you... The lines move fast , the service is great.. And the food is worth the wait.

Was in Rockland, Maine for work for literally one night, had to grab breakfast before my job. Got here at 7:30am on a weekday, place was almost full and with good reason, food and service are awesome. This is pretty much what you want out of a restaurant - everything homemade, great flavor, a lot of creativity, super homey, good prices, and genuine service. I was told by some locals that they just redesigned the place, there's a cool roof deck and some outdoor seating that looks hip and modern. If I'm ever back in Rockland, Maine this will be one of m stops. Just too bad they close at 3pm! I had the migas (eggs with corn tortillas and peppers mixed in) with some house made buttermilk white bread on the side. Really hard to not get a cinnamon bun or cinnamon bun french toast because they both sounded amazing, but I had already picked up a bag of donuts from Willow Bakery down the road (also a morning must stop) so I had filled my sweets quota. If you're in Rockland, don't just go here, run here. I mean it.

Ok. Going to five stars. They dialed down the salt in the stir fry so my son liked it more. I had a "BahnCard kitchen" sandwich - outstanding!

We were headed for another place but stopped here instead, boy was I glad we did!! Love places u can get breakfast all day! The waitstaff was excellent , welcoming us in and seating us. The special board caught my eye first, the the funny names they gave daily dishes on the menu, I knew it was gonna be great! Sense of humor & great food go together! I tried the gumbo -chicken & andouille sausage with white rice, nice kick of heat to melt my snow filled boots. The man had tomato basil soup, way better than Campbell's !!! Finished with a BLT and the man had meatloaf sub, messy but worth it. All said & done, reasonable price and fully satisfied. It is home to quite a few regulars so u know its good or they wouldn't come back.

We were camping in Rockland with friends and I suggested we stop in for lunch based on the positive reviews on here. It was slam-packed for preseason! There was a wait, maybe 15 minutes or so, not bad at all given how many people were in there. It wasn't a big deal as it was nice outside and there are benches. Knowing what I know now, I would have gladly waited even longer if necessary! Although very busy, our seating for four at a high top was comfortable and we didn't feel crowded by the other tables at all. There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, but I went with the meat filled omelet (I forget what it was called). I am not a fan of eggs normally, but it sounded too good to pass up. It was amazing! The eggs were so fluffy and perfect... and sandwiching bacon, sausage, onions, peppers, etc. was obviously a plus. I got it with the oatmeal bread toast. A friend that I was with and myself both work in bakeries and agreed that it was awesome. Everyone in our party was super impressed with their food. Everything is made there (no Sysco crap) and from what I could tell sourced locally as much as possible. Be warned, the parking lot is kind of small, but there seems to be street parking in the area. It's just worth it. The fact that I am writing this over a month after eating here (I was craving the omelet today) really says something. Do yourself a favor and go here!

Winter noontime Saturday breakfast/lunch in Maine and the HKC was bustling (AKA packed) Wait was 20-30 minutes and worth it! As they say, "It's all good".

This is a great local diner. Busy, organized chaos with a friendly and efficient staff. Good food, good coffee and a favorite for locals too! I spent the morning eyeing the pastry that they make there - the corn beef hash kept me full and the real maple syrup was wonderful for the pancakes - so the sticky buns will have to be for another trip! Go, don't be in a rush, have fun - enjoy a good breakfast!!

Disclaimer: I live for breakfast, and this by far is my favorite meal of the day. Went here because of the stellar reviews. It was just OK. We loved the atmosphere and vibe of the place. It was packed and there was a bit of a wait, not too bad. Started off with the sticky buns and the sinnies? We liked the sinnies much better but both were definitely worth ordering and saved this visit. Get those and you will be happy. The coffee was excellent as was the wait staff, all very friendly. The food. I'm so torn on this place. The menu looks great, lots of choices. I had the juevos ranchero, and it was lackluster and didn't have much of a taste. The salsa tasted homemade but missing salt. The spicy sauce was ok, but just not tangy enough for my palette. The eggs were cooked fine but they also lacked a bit of salt which I added. The tortilla was home-made which was a very nice touch. Something felt off/missing on this dish. The kids had french toast, which was great and pancakes and bacon which also was cooked just right. I would go back but I would order non-egg things as those seem to be their sweet spot.

This restaurant is phenomenal! My friend took me here for breakfast and the food was fantastic! Everything was cooked perfectly, tasted magnificent, and served with clean and excellent efficiency. The restaurant is also in a nice location by the harbor in Rockland. The morning light and smells of the water create a very lovely atmosphere to eat one's food in. The waitstaff was very pleasant and the cooks demonstrated their well honed cooking skills. I recommend this place highly!

This could easily be the best breakfast/lunch place in Maine. Pretty much everything served there is either homemade or locally obtained, from the bread to the herbs to the coffee to the fish to the meats! The breads are all homemade and are absolutely amazing. The hollandaise sauce is also fantastic. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this place if you are in the area!

Thanks Yelp community for leading me here! We visited on a Sunday around noon in September. It was mostly full, but a table of 6 was just leaving, so we only had to wait a few minutes for a table. Everyone agreed it was a good choice at the end of the meal. High praise for the fish tacos, the breakfast hash and the sticky bun. Also, someone enjoyed the oatmeal. I had a simple egg, cheese and bacon sandwich, which was surprisingly good because of the homemade bread in particular. One person at my table said the wheat bread was the best they'd had; nice and thick. A note - they were already out of lobster by noon and the woman brought our sticky buns out early (was planning to have for dessert) to make sure they didn't run out during our meal. This is in walking distance from the public parking lot in Rockland, though we were able to get a spot in the small restaurant lot. Happy this didn't disappoint.

I had the eggs benedict which were very good, but very pricey considering the small serving size. Anywhere else, for less money, you would get a second piece of toast or some home fries. When I tried to give the Cafe some feedback on Facebook, they went into defensive mode and didn't seem to want to hear the suggestion. Great place for a tourist with time and money, but not for a hungry local.

Came back here daily for a consistent and tasty breakfast the entire two weeks I was in town. Best wait staff in the area. Food is quick, tasty and well priced. If you're visiting in the lobster season, the lobster omlette is a must. If not, get teh corn-beef hash. VERY good and not greasy.

On a daylong drive to Machias, we opted to drive the scenic coast to experience some local fare. Driving past it in Rockland, we noticed a full parking lot and a few people waiting outside. The turnover inside was relatively quick - but the food was outstanding. Definitely order the sweet cinnamon roll as a breakfast appetizer! My husband had one of the best Eggs Benedict over homemade corn beef hash that he's ever had!! I went more traditional with French toast, and we shared fresh sliced potato hash browns. Don't drive passed this place!!!

This place came highly recommended, but after eating there, we weren't that impressed. They recently started opening for dinner in addition to their regular breakfast & lunch times. We were there on a Wednesday evening, & they weren't too busy, but our server seemed to be in a hurry, and we felt rushed. I didn't have a chance to really look at the menu before being hurried along. I ended up getting something that I really didn't want, but she wanted us out of there so as to make room for the next group. My sandwich was good, & my husband and son liked their food, but when you feel rushed, it's hard to enjoy anything. We did get dessert to go. It was delicious!! I think we'll go back the next time we're in Maine to get dessert to go, but there are too many other restaurants in the area that provide an enjoyable dining experience. Sadly, this did not.

It was great! Excellent, friendly service even from other servers. Our server even suggested that we share a sandwich. Our cheese steak sub was so tasty and on delicious homemade bread. The ice tea was fresh made and we topped the meal off by sharing a wonderful chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting. Wish I had a place near home like Home Cafe.

After hearing what a great place the HKC was, from my companion, for over 6 months, we finally made it there today., with family It was a bit of a wait for the table, up on the deck, not a problem. The menu is huge, with many, many choices. My companion and I opted for the fish tacos. After a wait of nearly an hour the food came. There was fish in the taco, some where, they were soggy and cool. Loaded to the hilt and served with home made, bland, cold, black beans. Our companions ordered, an omelet, and salad. There was nothing that should have taken over an hour to cook. No raves from me about the place.

I wish I could give half stars, because I would go as high as 4.5 on this great little restaurant. So friendly, so welcoming, and great food. I had the huevos rancheros, and although I am not usually a huge fan of mexican eggs, I loved this dish! And the cinnamon rolls were awesome! My kids had the chocolate chip and blueberry pancakes, and loved them both. Definitely go early as it fills up fast, but worth a wait if you don't make it. We will be back!

EXCELLENT! Sunday morning so it was a little crowded and crazy, but the waitress who was also playing hostess kept things running very smoothly. We only waited about 20-30 min. Not bad. We started our meal with coffee and a "Sinnie" BEST EVER (and thank you for suggesting one to go!) then I had the Huevos Rancheros. SO GOOD! Just spicy enough and the beans for very flavorful. My date had chicken/veggie fritatta, which was also quite tasty. It was really hard to decide as everything on the menu looked interesting and delicious. One thing I noticed was the place seems to have many regulars. The waitress/hostess called more people by name than not and treated everyone great. The service here is A+

My Aunt, a local, told me about this place. It's open for breakfast and lunch only. As soon as it's doors open the place is packed. Turnover is pretty quick for two people. We went here and then came here every morning for breakfast three days i a row. We would have gone more but it was the end of our trip. The staff is great. They are quick, they are constantly on the move to help customers. We sat at the bar twice and the waitress, Marilyn, was very nice. Despite being insanely busy she still chatted with us. They have specials there every day. When they have lobster it goes quick. The atmosphere is very nice. Very home kitchen like with wonderful local art on the walls. Vibrant with out being offensive colors throughout. One morning there was an omelet special with Maine crab in it. It was amazing. I also had the lobster tacos. I kept seeing people order them and they looked so good. It was amazing. Very fresh ingredients. It's not weighed down with heavy sauces. I wish I could order something like this back home. Next time I will get it with the Haddock which is always on the menu. We also ordered a lobster fritatta, huevos rancheros and the lobster bennie (benedict), which was decadent and amazing. We only went for breakfast so I am not sure what lunch time is like but from talking to the staff it is just as busy. It ebbs and flows. There is always a big rush in the morning. Things to get before you even order your food: cinnamon roll, sticky bun, macaroons and no bake cookies. These all go very quickly. One morning we got in late, around 10:00am. Already the sticky buns and cinnamon rolls were all gone. I would suggest personally the tacos, bennies and omelets. I have not gotten the polenta but the bread is amazing. They do not sell it so whatever you do, order the bread, even if just as a side. I would also suggest sitting at the bar if you are social and like meeting new people. It's great to get conversations started. You also get a great view of the kitchen and all the hustle and bustle. If you don't feel like chatting, I would recommend waiting for a seat at a table.

My wife and I stumbled upon this cute cafe and were very pleasantly surprised. We are in constant search for great crab rolls so eat them just about every day that we're in Maine. This place easily won the prize on this trip (last summer). Was a bit pricey, but worth it. Next and future summers, we will make a pilgrimage to the Home Kitchen Cafe. Probably do not need to mention it since the service is always friendly in Maine, but this place was a standout on that score as well. Glad we found it!

Perfect breakfeast or lunch. Great service. Nice atmosphere. Best fish tacos anywhere. From Ca and their fish tacos have homemade corn tortillas and the tasty grilled haddock with pico de gallo. Side of black beans. Lobster tacos also excellent but fish has more zip Thai cobb salad excellent If you have one breakfeast , lunch in mid coast region, this is the place .

Migas for dinner... It doesn't get much better than that for a southern girl. This restaurant serves breakfast all day, which is a favorite if mine. The menu is huge! You can order anything from a salad to a baked haddock plate to a farmer's omelet. Try the grown up macaroni and cheese with bacon. Holy cow! It will change your life. Save room for dessert, the cupcakes must be explored!

My wife and I went for breakfast while in town for a conference. It's clearly a popular spot, as it was busy at 10:00 on a Monday morning in November. The coffee, food, service and atmosphere were all very good. They have both table and counter seating. I had scrambled eggs with wheat toast and potatoes and my wife had oatmeal with raisins. Nothing noteworthy about the eggs, but the bread was excellent (homemade I believe) and the potatoes had onions and peppers mixed in -- much better than the average diner-style homefries. Didn't hear any complaints from my wife about the oatmeal either. The total for my half of the meal (including coffee) came to just over $8. Their parking lot is not large, so don't hesitate to take a spot on the street if you think the restaurant might be busy. We took the last parking spot in their lot and the restaurant was busy, but not full when we visited.
