Great soups, delicious panini's and great staff made our lunch just what we were looking for. Came in on a cold afternoon in the mood for clam chowder and a warm sandwich and Clan Maclaren's delivered. They had 3 different soups and a huge sandwich and salad menu... Almost had too hard of a time deciding! My girlfriend and I ended up doing a half sandwich, half soup each. We both ended up getting the John Henry panini (Turkey, cheddar, guac, red onions) and soup. I added Bacon. The panini was delicious and I was glad she had a few bites left over because I wanted more of its goodness! The clam chowder was yummy, not too thick and creamy and not too creamy. Nice chunks of clams and potatoes. She had the root vegetable soup which was also yummy...and very healthy. Might have been better with some cream in it but that would make it less healthy... None the less her bowl was empty and I caught her licking it for the last bits of goodness! Also very friendly staff! There were 3 of them in there despite the place being pretty dead. All very friendly, brought the food to our table, and chatted with us for a while to see how everything was and if we needed anything else. Overall was the perfect meal and EXACTLY what I was looking for after a hike in the cold! Perfectly hit the spot! Would definitely come back here, and that says a lot growing up in NYC and WE!

Stopped in w/ my son on 9/21/14 on a recommendation of the pastrami reuben. We had the reuben & a bowl of clam chowder. Both were very good. Will definitely go back again.

The menu offers a large selection of sandwiches, but we were more in the mood for a soup and salad lunch. I had a big bowl of the excellent and popular clam chowder, the last bowl remaining to be sold. My friend had a bowl of the lobster bisque, also very good. As I write this review several weeks later, I have to admit that I can't remember much about the salads, other than that we were satisfied with them.

I just had hot tea (it was a wet, cold day) but my companion had the clam chowder, and he marveled at how tender the clams were. The soup looked thick and creamy, teeming with clams and red potatoes. He raved about it. I liked the beautiful atmosphere and lovely people working there.

We stopped in for lunch after doing the Farnsworth. It was ok, I don't know if I would go back if I was in Rockland again opting to try someplace new. That being said there wasn't anything wrong with the place. The food was good, it was clean. I didn't understand the Scottish theme at all. There wasn't anything Scottish on the menu (other than giving normal sandwiches hokey Scottish names).

The best sandwich shop in Rockland! Favorite sandwich? Hard to choose, but I love the John Henry - grilled panini with turkey and a yummy, slightly spicy avocado sauce. The owners are friendly, and I love the cheerful, airy, colorful and crafty ambiance of the cafe.

While walking around in Rockland for the day, we looked at all of the local lunch places and settled on this one after a recommendation from a store clerk. I had the lobster ceasar salad and my husband had the lobster roll/clam chowder combo. Both were incredibly fresh and delicious. This is such a cute little place and well worth the price

My daughter and I had lunch here today. She is a vegan and she enjoyed her Veggie MacLaren without the provolone. I had the Veggie Wrap that was like a salad on a tortilla with croutons!! It was very good. I am only giving 4 stars because I think the price was a little high for a veggie wrap $9.25 and a veggie sandwich $8.75 especially considering my daughter said no cheese. The sandwiches, wraps and paninis that had meat and cheese cost less! But a nice lunch in a cute cafe :)

Great chowder and creative, tasty sandwiches! Fun atmosphere. Friendly folks working here as well. Not a tourist trap! Sandwich was on crusty artisan bread, fresh veggies, spicy olive oil, provolone, turkey.

We found this place while visiting lighthouses in the area. It is a very nice place where the staff greeted most everyone by name (obviously not us since we were tourists), but they were very nice. The food was great! One of the best sandwiches I've had in recent memory. Free parking half a block away. Definitely recommend it.
