So we returned to La Mexicana right after Christmas for another try. This time I ordered the Mole Poblano, which is an authentic southern Mexican dish. Good mole sauce takes about 15 - 20 ingredients and hours to prepare. The mole sauce over a huge portion of grilled chicken was spot-on and delicious, more proof that a Mexicana is the real deal in Mexican dining. My mother enjoyed the Chicken Enchiladas in salsa verde, my Dad had the spicy Chicken Colorado and my wife once again had the Pollo Fundido. This time the place was packed with families. Authentic food, great service and a great price.

Went there again and was not disappointed. The steak burritos are awesome!

I was pleasantly surprised with the food. My margarita was not the greatest, but the food was actually very tasty. I had the chimichangas and everything tasted delicious. The staff was very nice and attentive. I would definitely be back!

Always great food and staff. The ingredients and quality are top notch. There are some hit or miss items depending on your tastes. Your standard fare of Tacos, Quesadillas and Burritos are above par. If you are looking for an authentic off the beaten path try the Chicken Soup. I never in my life would have ordered it until it was recommended to me strongly. It is deep in flavor yet so simple. And don't forget to try a sangria. It is fresh and flavorful and packs a punch. You'll be happy you went. de nada

This is very basic microwaved Mexican food. Not particularly fresh or tasty. Server was very friendly and service was fast. Just wish they would turn the quality up a notch.

Many restaurants have come and gone in this particular location. I'm really hoping this one stays. What amazing, fresh Mexican food. Definitely worth the trip. Fajitas, burritos, tacos...we tried and loved all of them. And their guacamole was amazing!!!! Please give these guys a chance and help keep this little gem in business!

Made my second visit to A La Mexicana last night and it did not disappoint! The first time, I had the fish tacos and a margarita. (That's always my go-to choice for Mexican food.)This time I tried one of their combination meals and wow - there was a lot of food there for $8.95! Along with that I had a tall Pacifico. The food was hot and fast on both visits and so so good! Plus the prices are low! However, the mixed drinks are a bit on the pricey side, whereas the beer is priced at pretty standard rates. Being the only local Mexican place from where I live, I could definitely see myself becoming a regular here.

Went to A La Mexicana in Raymond for dinner on Cinco de Mayo. I have to say the food was a BIG disappointment at best. It's claim to have "authentic Mexican Cuisine" is a joke. I have been immersed enough in the latin community to know what good (and authentic) Spanish food tastes like. The food did come out very fast..within 5 or 6 minutes. BUT the runny pinkish refried beans, (gross) and enchiladas on the plate looked like they were just slapped on the plate and microwaved. The meat inside was dry and had probably been frozen. The drinks were higher priced (4.00 for the 2.99 draft special of Dos Equis. 7.00 for a pina colada) Both served in plastic solo cups. The appetizer was a cheese dip which was literally a bunch of square slices of white american cheese melted in the mictowave. We could still see some of the corners that didn't melt. But what did was so runny you couldn't dip in it if you wanted to. We left alot of food on our plates. The Carne Asada was so thin and not at all grilled. No char at all. It looked boiled or steamed. We will NEVER go back there. Ever. Why they are even still open is beyond me. I guess most Maine natives don't know the difference between good and bad Mexican food. This was REALLY terrible!!!! Major fail. Don't go there. :0

Love this place!!! Authentic Mexican fare. Great pricing. Margaritas the size of my head and not made with cheap sweet and sour mix, that so lovingly gives me heartburn. My favorite on the menu is surprisingly the chicken soup in a cup. It's hearty with rice , habanero pepper, tons of pulled chicken and fresh avocado sliced on top with cheese swirled into the warm Soup ! A must have!!! We get it to go all the time. Great when you need soup for the soul and a cold ! Love the waitstaff too, friendly and remember you when you return. Hasta mañana !!!

Everything I've heard about this restaurant is great. Unfortunately I've never had the pleasure of trying the food. The first time we tried to go was on Monday. Much to our disappointment they are closed Monday's. This evening we attempted to go again. It was snowing so we called first to make sure. The girl told us they weren't sure what time they would be be open til, but around 8 or 9. When we arrived 15 minutes later the doors were locked and a number of people were sitting around the bar (employees?). They ignored us and we gave up and left. Guess it just wasn't meant to be.

FINALLY!! A decent place to eat in the area! The space is huge--they make awesome margaritas and guac with homemade chips. It is clean, friendly and fast, so it is great for the kids. The only small issue is that I can't seem to find a menu on-line so it makes ordering take-out hard.

Authentic Mexican food. Carnitas is delicious. And reasonable prices.

While the food was OK, the condiments and menus on the table were grimy and the number of wait staff was insufficient. May have been a bad night. We waited an hour for our food after placing the order.

I've been here several times now and it's just so damn good! The space is perfect for a restaurant of this kind with a nice attached bar area, outdoor patio, and booth tables spotted throughout. The ambience is great with authentic Mexican music and, lo and behold, authentic Mexican staff. Their food is so reasonably priced that you wonder, dubiously, over what's going to arrive at your table after ordering it. During your wait, enjoy the complimentary homemade tortilla chips and salsa which are far batter than any you've ever had in Maine, believe me - this is genuine! Drink choices are limited but what more do you want from a Mexican restaurant - you didn't come here for a Bloody Mary and Lobster did you? They offer several Margarita options, which can also come in a massive(!) bowl-shaped glass if you choose to go big. The price seems high at $9 until it's put in front of you! Beer is limited to two Mexican options on draught and then the typical Mexican and domestic American bottled beers. The servers are extremely attentive and hard working, but not overbearing, and always making sure their guests are happy. When dinner's served the portion size and taste of the food never fails to amaze me. It's so reasonable and absolutely crave-worthy! If you're looking for a meal on a budget then order the Fajitas-for-Two and don't forget to bring some friends - this dish will feed four! So the reason I give this 4 stars and not 5 is because I'm very fussy about quality. Even though the food is fresh, and it is, I have no idea where they source their meats from and that's important to me. The meats don't melt in your mouth like in some of my favourite restaurants, and the shrimp doesn't have that distinct seafood flavour bursting from it. Even though I'd only expect this from a high-end Mexican restaurant I have to stay true to quality, so that's my rationale for 4 stars. But I know that's not what Mexican is famous for. It's the other flavours like the refried beans, homemade sauces with beautifully blended spices, guacamoles and salsas that'll punch your tastebuds in the face that make this food so famous... and that's why I crave this place so frequently - they've got that part down to a science! Thank you A La Mexicana for giving the Lakes Region a true and tasty Mexican option - nice job!

Enchiladas are my favorite!! And their's are fantastic! Be wary of the cheese enchilada because it is a giant chunk of American cheese. The rest are VERY good though! My husband has gotten a few other things (tacos, burritos). He is not a fan. Says they are pretty bland. They kind of were. But when I make Mexican food at home, there is a lot of seasonings and flavors. The chips and salsa may be my favorite of all the Mexican restaurants I've been to! The restaurant itself is nothing special. A bit dingy, but it's never been dirty when we've gone. When we get food from there, we tend to do it as takeout instead however.

I love this place. I was raised in southern California and know real Mexican food. This is the first restaurant in Maine that I have been to that has authentic Mexican food. The wait staff is wonderful and the owners are very gracious. Highly recommend anything on the menu. Also, so great to have a good place to eat in Raymond!

Chips and salsa were good, but meal was bland and service was horrible. We had 4 separate dishes and all very flavorless. Tacos were gross- no seasoning.

Food was awesome, super fresh and flavorful! The service was also great - the portions are big and are prepared super fast. I didn't have on but the margaritas looked amazing! Definitely check it out.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
