The Shed is pretty fantastic. The food is great, the atmosphere is laid back and calm. Vegetarians can get a portobello sandwich and the sides are delicious. Granted, the service was better when it was just the owner running the business. The service is a little bit slow now.

This review is based on our tipping standards at - blog.lavall.ee/tip ATTENTIVENESS: N/A as we did takeout. TIMELINESS: 2 They told us 15 minutes until it would be ready. We were there at 15 minutes and it wasn't ready until 30 minutes. FOOD QUALITY: 6 The good was excellent, the portions large, and mine lasted for 2 large meals. Total score 8 out of a possible of 14.

Best brisket sandwich ever, every summer we make a point to stop when in Rangeley. Always a great meal.

The menu is odd to me. BBQ and your typical items but then the other half of the menu is Mexican food. The pulled pork dinner was huge and very tasty. It comes with 2 sides. We had the baked beans and Mac and cheese. The pork was juicy. The Mac and cheese was super creamy- just like homemade. The taco salad was large and filled with items. When you ask for the beef it is ground beef which really made no sense to me. I would have expected steak tips. The Enchilada pie was fit for 2-3 meals. I loved the concept of this meal. Shell on bottom and one on top. The middle contained pounds of meat, beans sauce and topped with cheese. It looked like a Mexican lasagna. Very yummy. The prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly. The menu is small. The only issue (which seems be typical here in rangeley) is slow kitchen. I was told 20 minutes for pick up and it was just over 30 minutes. Guess I'm just a city girl use to speed.?

Big Webber smokers out front. Tables outside overlooking Rangeley Lake. Simple rustic decour. Gourmet BBQ, moist and very tasty. The BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich (comes with 2 sides for $8) was to die for. You can compliment your meal with a glass of draft beer or other beverage.

Horrible service. Only 8 customers including my 3 and took waitress 10 minutes to clean table and another 10 minutes to bring out drinks. It was not like she was busy. It is a small place and we could see what she was doing. Bizarre. Food was served without silverware. That took another 5 minutes. Their award winning chili was served in paper cup with no toppings. Not the idea I had when looking at photo on wall with sour cream. The chili was basically a cup of taco meat and tasted no different than the taco seasoning you buy in a packet from your local supermarket. The wings came attached. The saving grace was their burger. BBQ sandwich ok but coleslaw was basically salad. Just a bad experience.

kind of expensive and very slow even for a BBQ place. Food is bland with small portions and service is bad, poorly run business to say the least. We ordered take out gave our number showed up and they say sorry we ran out of ribs? Thanks it late in the evening in Rangeley all the other places r now closed.

Ate at the shed last night after some fairly mediocre meals elsewhere, and am happy to report that Rangeley finally has a bonafide BBQ joint. The pork ribs were tender, juicy, and sticky with smoked-in deep delicious flavor. You could tell they were fresh because they needed a little nudge to slide off the bone, but with one bite I was tearing the meat cave-man style and searching out that next rib - couldn't get enough of this BBQ house staple, that is the universal standard used for comparing one smoke shack to another, and the Shed takes 5 stars for their awesome sticky ribs. We also had pulled pork sliders that were too good to be true, served on mini-brioche with the Shed's modernized cole slaw on top, giving the fresh crunch and salady flavor that provided the perfect balance to the tangy sweetness of the pulled pork. A ranch cut prime rib steak is offered occasionally, and you're advised to get it whenever it's available - it's a smokey tender piece of beef that you'll be dreaming about when you come down out of the mountains for months. The required sides of mac n' cheese, cornbread, baked beans, and the afore mentioned slaw are also available, and where many BBQ houses put little attention towards these must-have side items, the Shed does the reverse and gets high marks on all, especially the cornbread (which you'll want to order extra of to bring home and have for breakfast) and homemade baked beans which compliment the main dishes without stealing the show. The mac n' cheese will fulfill its duty of being the perfect comfort food. Lastly, the custom made pine slab bar will provide you with a comfortable and neighborly place to sit and enjoy a cocktail while you watch the twilight etch designs in the sky over Rangeley lake, the perfect antidote to a hard day of four-season-fun, before you embark on your culinary adventure into cherry-wood smoked deliciousness. The Shed is destined to become a Rangeley institution, and is a welcome and much needed addition to the modicum of worthy eating establishments available during all four seasons at this paradise of places up in the northwest corner of vacationland.

Labor Day weekend we were up her e and stopped into this joint right on the main road a little north of the "downtown" area. There was a decent band outside, tiki torches, and a pig roast. We were late for the roast but I got twin lobsters for $16 and they were excellent. A limited but decent beer selection. I didn't have any bbq but what I saw looked pretty good. Whatever, dude. I'm in fucking Rangeley Maine. I think people need to temper their expectations a bit when they drive up from whatever bbq mecca they hail from. After golfing all afternoon and drinking and fishing for the rest of the day this place was pretty tight.

Only one star because zero is not an option. There is a reason why this place empty 630pm on a weekend night. The ribs we're tough, BBQ sauce salty, Mac and cheese bad and the beans were un-edible. My girlfriend got a "well" burger that was uncooked. We ordered take out and had to throw it away. They also ran out of french fries and chicken wings. We wiill not be back.

My family just spent a week in Rangeley and had a chance to eat at a number of restaurants in town. The Shed was a high-light of our dining-out experiences. The owner and chief was friendly and talented. This is a small restaurant with several tables outside under canopies with a good view of the lake. We went in with low expextations of what looked like a dive and one that was focused on BBQ. Having lived in the heart of BBQ crazed North Carolina (both Eastern & Western), I am always ready to be critical of BBQ. We were a party of 5 adults and 4 teenagers. My 17 year old son felt "The Toolbox" hamburger (House hamburger with pulled pork, jalapeno, cheese, & bacon) was the best hamburger he ever had. The Mac & Cheese he had as a side was excellent and the fries well above average. I had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on a fresh warm brioche bun. The pulled pork that had been cooked in house was outstanding the BBQ sauce not NC styled, but more of a standard BBQ sauce was actually pretty good and the homemade hot sauce great. The coleslaw was not the standard slaw you expect with BBQ, but more a great coleslaw salad with raisins, broccoli, and a great creamy dressing. It worked well with the pork and was a great side by itself. The day we were there they also had fried clams, again not the standard chopped up overly breaded clam strips you might expect, these were fresh plump full bellied juicy lightly breaded bits of wonder, with a homemade light tarter sauce on the side. The highlight was my brother's rack of ribs that he happily shared. Incredible, among the best I have ever had, juicy, tender, great smoke and the same BBQ sauce as on the pork. He had the corn bread on the side which was moist slightly sweet and flavorful - great. The beer list was modest, but a good selection including good regional craft beers. The others in our party equally enjoyed our meal and after eating at a couple of other Rangeley restaurants wished we had returned to "The Shed" instead. A couple of minor points, they ran out of their homemade beans and the wait for the food was a little long, however, the owner is the only one in the kitchen, we were on vacation in a slow paced relaxed outdoors activity focused area, so it was not a big deal. Also, the waitress was helpful, friendly and always responsive. In summary this is a gem, outstanding food taken to a notch above what you would expect, everything tasted fresh and of high quality ingredients. Oh, and the portions were generous! They also have vegan items. Wish we had a chance to have tried more off the menu. I actually made a point to stick my head in the kitchen to thank the owner, something I never do.

This is a great place for bbq. Not a ton of choices but what we had was tasty. I had the pulled pork with regular sauce. Still spicy so I imagine it is super spicy! The rest of our group had burgers, hot dogs and wings. The corn bread is almost like cake and delicious. Sit outside of you can and enjoy a view of the lake!
