Good pizza, solid beer selection upstairs. At 12:30am, it was just what we needed.

I wish I'd checked here before--I also was denied the use of my Groupon on Saturday. Completely unacceptable.

This pizza is awesome. If you're drunk. Seriously. It's especially good if you're intoxicated, had burned your tongue on something else earlier in the day leaving your taste buds defunct, and if you appreciate shelling out an exorbitant amount of money. I can justify going here when there are far better pizza places in the city that are more fresh, taste superior, and are way cheaper for bigger slices and are opened just as late on the weekends. This place was meant for bro-dudes to stop and grab a slice after drinking PBR at the shady bars nearby. Plus, these guys built in the old Granny's Burrito space. From a personal stand point (and I know I'm not the only foodie in the city that feels this way), I can't walk into this place without feeling a little sick to my stomach.

The pizza wasn't great, and the bar area was really loud (there was a DJ tucked away in a dark corner, which didn't make much sense for the upstairs bar of a pizza place where no one was dancing, and everyone was just trying to eat something at the end of the night), but this place gets some points for being one of the only places to grab a late-night bite to eat, and for friendly service that kicked in after about an hour or so. We didn't get out of our mock trial competition until after 9:30 on a Friday night, and by the time we got back to the hotel and went out for food, everything was closed - including bars that said their kitchen closed at 10 but really closed by 9:45. After a lot of walking around, we finally stumbled upon Joe's and went upstairs to a bar and seating area. It took a while to get menus, and then to get our pizza, but once we got our pizzas, one of the staff members came around a lot and asked if we needed waters and other things. (Better late than never, I guess.) I wasn't expecting much from this pizza, but once we got it, it was still disappointing. We got a Manhattan special, and it had a bunch of meats plus peppers and onions. The peppers and onions were pretty much raw on our pie when we got it, so I ended up pulling those off. There was also cold ham among everything else. If you have to come here, I'd suggest sticking to plain cheese or pepperoni. I wouldn't recommend it, but if it's the end of a long night and you're hungry, I understand if you have no other choice.

USED to be a big fan. Every time I have gone, the slices get smaller and the prices get larger. Today I went and I have always gone for BBQ chicken... The slices were tiny. Not even two slices could be worth one good slice like I used to get there. Sorry but $3.75 for half a slice of pizza.. no thanks. When I said something to the guy working he replies with "thats all we have left." what GREAT customer service -_- forcing me to get a Hawaiian, not what I wanted, but was decent sized. Then as I am stand waiting for my pizza, hence on the standing, he comes and set it on a table... if I am standing, this does not mean I want to sit at a table. I want to leave. And as I am sitting makes a new bbq pizza... I will not be returning.

Really for two pieces of pizza it is $10????? That is crazy. Just plain crazy. This pizza place has capitalism at its finest for sure--getting the late night crowd deep in the wallet for pizza though?? That's just sad. There is a line here always I was told, and there was when we went, but all of us needed food and this place was close by. They only had three types of pizza out for us to choose from, even though they have a stack of new pizzas on the rack ready to go, they wouldn't bring any of those down! So strange! Matt J. and I got a slice of their pizza with feta, olives, and spinach and it was honestly not that flavorful at all, especially when they increase the price of your pizza for each individual topping there is on it! It isn't just a base price for certain types of pizza, but if you want anything creative at all on a slice of pizza here, you'll be happy to know they take credit card which lots of late night pizza places don't. And the reason they take credit card is because for the price I could get an entire medium or large pizza from another pizza vendor, we got two pieces that weren't even that warm anymore. Boo to Joe and his pizza. I feel robbed.

I bought a Groupon for Joe's pizza which made the price very cheap but the management is terrible. I was overcharged for my order and then told that I paid 3x more for one topping because it was a premium topping. Chicken- a premium topping? The menu board says toppings for 14" is $1.49 I should not find out after I pay and look at the receipt that the price for one topping is $4.47. What legit company hides their prices? I was not given a refund and I was told that I had to call and talk to someone the next day. No resolution, the manager asked me would I be happy if he put the price $4.47 on the menu board for chicken. Of course you should put the REAL price of your offerings on the menu. I will never go here again, even if its free. By the way the pizza was not very good either.

Better than Bill's, but not by much. They have a wide variety of choices but it's NEVER warm, even after being "reheated" in the oven which is pretty unacceptable, even when drunk!

Anything BUT New York pizza. disgrace. I have had better pizza come out of a supermarket freezer. I would give them 1 star, but the place looked clean and the food was prepared and given to us quickly which is good. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, keep walking down toward the water if you want pizza, there is a much better one down there.

I may need to re-try Joe's at a time when I am not intoxicated, because I realize my perspective may be somewhat skewed. I did, however, have a fantastic time, and the line (which was out the door when we arrived at about 12:30 AM) went by quickly. The slices were huge and not dripping with grease like at some places I've been to, and though the experience was a bit more expensive than I would have expected, I can't blame them for taking advantage of the impulsive and impaired late night crowd. We do this to ourselves, people!

Came here late night after a few drinks while in town for the Black Keys concert. Service was a little slow, but worth the wait. Got some slices to go and they were pretty good. Good selection though a bit pricey. Overall what we expected from a local pizza joint.

After a few beers at Ri Ra I overheard some patrons leaving for Bill's pizza, and the bartender mentioned this place. I stopped in and got a slice of pepperoni and it was great. Lots of pepperoni, thin crust, folded up and ate away. Looks like a gas fired oven but wasn't positive. They do it the typical style of the pizza's are in a carousel, and they pull off what you want and heat it in the oven. Was 3.50 for the slice and well worth it. Going back at least once more before I leave Portland. There is seating there, but it looks primarly like a to go type of place. And, you have to love that it's at 420 :)

bland salty overpriced crudwad slices that don't get reheated long enough in that fancy looking oven + slick bro bar upstairs pumping girly r&b jams = what in the wide world of ill-conceived restaurants? on the other hand, it's right at home on that end of fore st, so i guess i can't say they don't know what they're doing.

I love this place -- if you want a big slice of pizza or some good wings, this is your place. By far, the best wings in town, in many flavors. This fact is backed-up by them just winning a local wing contest. The pizza is good, and the ice bar upstairs is very unique. Friendly, curteous staff, and great drinks. Definitely one of my favorite places in the Old Port to pregame for a night out, or get a good meal.

What happened to you, Joe's Slice Bar? You started out as a pretty good pizza place where the prices weren't bad and the slices were huge. There wasn't much NY-style about the pizza, but that's okay. It was good for feeding the drunk gremlin that lived in my stomach after a night out in the Old Port. Then you had a fire and closed for awhile. I thought maybe you'd come back better than ever, but you didn't. If anything, things got even worse. The price for a slice is ridiculous and while the slices are just as massive, you aren't getting what you pay for. It's not even good pizza anymore and I'm okay with that because you aren't geared for me as the clientele anymore. After the renovations, Joe's opened up the doorway between them and the bar next door. I was in there on a weekend night and it was almost impossible to order and hear yourself think. The terrible music was bleeding through the walls and I just wanted to leave without my pizza. Plus the counter service was awful. They barely listened or made eye contact. When my pizza had been warmed up, I had no idea it was ready. They just left it up on the tall shelf without saying anything. I just assumed it was mine, so hopefully I didn't take someone else's slice. At that point, I really didn't care. I just wanted to eat my pizza and leave. I don't recommend this place at all. There are so many better options in Portland that stay open just as late with cheaper per slice prices and a nicer atmosphere.

Worse slice of pizza ever. It wasn't even warm and too thick. Disgusting. I couldn't even finish it.

This pizza is pretty good, whether you want a full pizza our just a couple slices. The meatball and ricotta is fantastic as is the plain old pepperoni. I'd avoid the bbq chicken pizza...too much bbq sauce. If you're looking for an alternative to Bill's, this is the place. They stay open late (later than the bars), for convenient late-night drunken binge-eating. Don't subject yourself to another slice of Bill's awful pizza again!

Every time I go into this place I feel like I'm going to get beat up. There's a guy who makes pizza and works the register that is built like a tank and has a look on his face that does not welcome conversation. Not a friendly place. The pizza is better than some in the area, but nowhere near as good as others. I happen to like the New York-style slices they serve. They're broad and foldable, and the toppings are hearty. Its location, and the fact that they sell by the slice, make it convenient to stop in and grab some lunch or just a pizza snack, though my wife continues to insist that pizza is not a "snack." They sell a 19" "party size" pizza that's nice to bring to an event, though you'll shell out $25 for it. The prices, in general, are not cheap, and I don't disagree with reviewers who complain that it's overpriced. In terms of the atmosphere, there's not much to it. I wouldn't recommend it for a sit-down meal. There's apparently a bar section, but I haven't ventured into it. If you're in the area, want to grab something quick, like their style of pizza, aren't in a penny-pinching mood, and can defend yourself against a surly, super-jacked pizza guy, Joe's might just hit the spot, but that's a lot of "ifs."

$14 for 3 slices and 2 drinks? If the pizza was fresh/good then maybe, but this place sucks. The pizza is reheated poorly and just mediocre. Very disappointing.

My boyfriend and I enjoy this pizza, fold-able, nice crust and sauce, not overly greasy. We have even ordered a couple of times for delivery. That said, I must advise you to never do this. They do not have their own delivery service but that is not made clear on their website. I called back after 1 hour of ordering looking for my pizza. It was sitting right where they left it waiting for a third party delivery service. I got my pizza after 90 minutes of waiting and waiting and it was cold. Not worth the 35 bucks for a party size (specialty with one additional topping) with three bucks tip and I later noticed a delivery fee as well. I will never order delivery from Joe's ever ever again. Too bad there is no place to park to pick a pie up. This will be relegated to late night post-drinking emergency pizza slices only. I think if I am going to spend that much money, I will try for a conventionally delivered Otto's.
