    Very casual environment. No decor, looks like where an AA or PTSA meeting would be held. Don't be fooled though. The breakfast sandwiches were excellent, all served on delicious pretzel bagels. There was a good selection, although they were out of oatmeal. I like places that put a greater emphasis on the food, as they did!

    Cool spot to get a quick, cheap breakfast. They're very friendly and food arrives quickly. The space is pretty cavernous, but at the price point, who cares! Worth a stop in if you're in a hurry.

    The food was good but nothing spectacular. The lady behind the counter was rude but the guy that helped us after her was very warm and friendly. The place seems clean but we were there as they opened and a guy brought the trash cans in right through the dining room which seemed a bit odd to me. I will probably give them another chance but I wasn't super impressed.

    I didn't eat here because after I saw the reviews on here I rushed to Dutch's to find the SADDEST atmosphere ever. If you only care about the food this may be the place for you. But I have lost faith with Yelp based on five stars for this place.

    Great breakfast sandwiches. All home made food-creatively made. Big and clean place. The hash-browns are sort of like a home-made tater tot...and I mean that in a good way! Tried a freshly made donut with a peanut butter filling-very unique! We will be coming back to try Dutch's for lunch!

    Everytime I come here the food is amazing. The big and beefy and chicken bacon sandwiches deserve an award. The laid back atmosphere and friendly staff are also an added bonus to scrumptious food!

    The prices are fair and the food is rich. A sparely decorated (and mostly empty) space that devotes its attention entirely to its comforting, homemade offerings. The breakfast sandwich (with not-too-sweet sausage) on biscuit was: buttery, flakey and fall apart good. Much like the atmosphere there were no frills and no need for them. Next time I'll try it on a bagel because the biscuit was too flakey to hold the sandwich together (don't worry, I ate every crumb). I can't wait to go back and make use of the gorgeous looking deserts!

    If Yelp had subcategories, there would be a lot of 1s and 5s. The food was top-notch, but other factors about my visit lowered the overall experience to a 3/5. The layout of this place was strange. It reminded me of a hospital cafeteria trying not to be a hospital cafeteria. It the place was huge, but too big for the number of chairs and tables they had. Everything was SO spread out. And the prices were ok. Definitely not a place to go to save money, especially if you're taking home pastas and salads. Service was also left to be desired. The food took awhile (about 7-10 minutes for a breakfast sandwich). Plus, they forgot my roommates drink (10+ mins for hot chocolate). Furthermore, I overheard the guy behind me complain about his order being wrong, and stated how this is something that commonly occurs to him at Dutch's. But the reason this place isn't getting a negative ranking is the food. It was DELICIOUS! I had a breakfast sandwich with homefries, and it was stunning. Very few places can make a sandwich or potatoes taste this good. Overall, I would come back for the food, but I would be hesitant to bring a date here. The food was 5/5, but everything else was left to be desired.

    We got take out from here for breakfast for the entire office. We got a variety of items, the cheesy grits, breakfast sandwich on a biscuit with maple sausage, breakfast burritos, egg whites with a chimichurri sauce, and of course the crispy hash browns. Everyone was incredibly impressed by the food it was really flavorful and big portions. When I went to pick up the food the baked goods looked delicious along with their home made salads. I can't wait to go back and try them for lunch!

    I have tried basically everything on the menu here and have yet to find anything I wasn't totally pleased with. the fresh made chips are a great compliment to any sandwich. My favorites are the chicken parm sammich, the Italian cold cut, and the shredded chicken salad. you really can't go wrong eating at dutch's. the breakfast and lunches are all super delicious! I do wish the prices were slightly lower but you can't complain when the food is so quality. I am a dutch's lover!

    How have I not written a review for Dutch's yet? It's almost too awesome for words. I've had breakfast and lunch here. I think both are divine. Breakfast: OMG. Brioche cinnamon buns. That's really all I need to say right? Get there early because they go quickly. I'm not an egg person so I stay away from the breakfast sandwiches or burritos. They look tasty if you're into eggs. I had a chicken biscuit with gravy on it and I wanted to marry it. The chicken was crispy, the gravy was creamy and the biscuit was light and fluffy. I wanted to eat 4 of them, but I only had room for one. Lunch: Hahahaha it's awesome. I don't even know what to say. A variety of freshly made sandwiches. I ended up going with the crispy chicken one because I can't seem to get enough of their fried chicken. I don't know what's in the breading, but I think it might be crack and I need a 12-step program to ease my addiction. I also got the onion strings and they are definitely something to share. They are crispy and come with a fancy sauce for dipping. I have no idea what makes it fancy and I'm not going to ask because it's spicy and great. The prices aren't bad at all and you'll feel very full when you're done. It's well worth the money and they are always adding new daily specials with a creative mix of ingredients.

    Eat. Here. Now. Their hash browns are as if hash browns and home fries got married and had beautiful square children. The MacDutch is like McGriddle's nicer, better looking cousin. I had to actually say, "MacDutch" several times in my head while ordering. It's a biscuit/muffin with syrup on it and egg, bacon & cheese. Place was clean and staff was welcoming.

    On my day off on Friday I wanted something new for breakfast. I have been wanting to try Dutch's, so that is exactly what I did. Right across from Slab on Preble St, Dutch's resides. Parking was relatively easy to find especially in the morning. When I walked in it felt open and everything was clean. I went and looked at the board I just wanted to see how their traditional egg sandwiches stacked against other egg sandwhiches in the neighborhood. I ordered one bacon egg and cheese and one with maple sausage. I personally had the maple one. It was delicious. Some of the best sausage sandwhiches in portland. It was such a high quality sandwhich with oozing yummy cheese. We also had the breakfast potatoes. WOW! they were so delicious. Crispy and crunchy on the out side and soft and tasty on the inside. Beautifully seasoned. I would go back just for a box of these bad boys. Love they give you the ketchup on the side automatically even though they didn't need ketchup. The workers here were also very nice and patient. I had this order to go and it was still piping hot when I got home. The look of this place seems to be the only thing people complain about. I hate that..... Some of the best places in nyc are in squalor. This place is at least clean and you don't have to walk through a brothel to get to it so people have some perspective and stop complaining about the looks of the place it's a breakfast lunch place not suppose to be a luxurious restaurant...... The food however is amazing and that's all that matters.

    the menu here rocks. im always on the lookout for heady breakfast burritos. there were too many things i wanted to try. not hungry enough for a burrito but ill probly come back tomorrow to get it. got the scallion stallion... a homemade pretzel bagel with scailliom cream cheese, tomato, sprouts, and i added some hot sauce. the hashbrowns are perfect. crispy and you get just the right amount. they had an avo mash special that i wantwd to get too. next time. its hard to find cheap good food in portland and the prices are super fair here. definitely will be back!

    From now on this will always be my first stop when I come to Portland!! I ate lunch there and enjoyed it so much I ordered another sandwich and a bunch of the sides to go. I have heard their breakfast sandwiches are amazing too can't wait to go back!

    When you combine breakfast and burrito you know you got something. I've scoured this city to fulfill this desire to have the most important meal wrapped in a flour tortilla. Dutch's has done it. Creating a breakfast burrito is no light matter, many places in town have screwed it up. It really is simple you make a basic breakfast (eggs, hashbrown, cheese and bacon) and wrap it up. Bacon was an optional upgrade on the standard model. If you aren't into the whole meat thing they also had avocado as an option and for the adventurous type you could have both. FYI they have a delicious Dutch's hot sauce right there on the table, because you shouldn't have to ask. While I can't say enough about the breakfast burrito, I saw that they had a whole menu of things that I am sure are equally good if not better. My special lady friend had a pork based sandwich with some funky @ss bread that was crispy and satisfying. As for the atmosphere, it is pretty lacklust. What do you want? I am sick of every place in town trying to offer an experience. I am sick of places that have those stupid antiquey lightbulbs. Dutch's makes good food and it is quick. Portland needed more grab and go spots where you can eat for under ten bucks.

    What a happy circumstance that I came upon this place. I was meeting a friend and we were supposed to meet at a place on Middle Street, but it was full with a wait, so I walked up to Washington Ave. to meet her at another place... which turned out to be full with a wait. So we hopped in the car and decided to park on Preble and see what wasn't full at Monument Square instead. We park, and I point out the barcade to her and say "Hey, what's this Dutch's place?" We check out the menu and peek in... and go in. I am so glad we did! She had the butternut squash soup which she loved and a salad, I had the italian combo no cheese and some vegan fried rice. We both agreed... the bread was sooooooo good. Slight crunch on the outside and nice and soft and chewy on the inside. We both hoovered down our food and found our bellies bursting and smiles on our faces. This one place that you have to walk in to appreciate. It is a large space with sparse tables, which I kinda liked since we didn't have to struggle to sit between tables of other people. It looked like most people came in to get take out. Take time to look over the pastries... they are not cookie cutter mass produced and look delightful, but I can not say since I passed on dessert. This was a great find and I would love to go back for breakfast! Okay, I am changing my review from 4 to 5 stars. Why? Cuz I had breakfast from here! I do wish the #1 came with a medium coffee instead of a small, but the homemade bisuit, the amazing bacon and perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside without being mushy homefries won me over. While many items are marked Vegan and Gluten Free, just about Dairy free options, I did see a sign saying soy milk was available upon request at the coffee station. I had no issue with my sandwich being made without cheese, which was refreshing. I hate having to say it, ask that they got it, and then have to take things back because it came with cheese anyway.

    After birthday plans were rained out, a friend and I drove around Portland looking for a breakfast place. Becky's had a loooong line; Marcy's seemed too crowded; Bibo's required reservations (& the owner treated us like less than savory a la the host from Ferris Bueller's Day Off). We stumbled upon Dutch's on Preble Street and it was like the universe was rewarding me for controlling my temper in spite of being hangry. Awesome local art, spotlessly clean, roomy. Then the food. Loaded hash browns first. These spuds are little shredded, cubed and deep fried nuggets of savory splendor. Topped with a light touch of house made cheese sauce, bacon and scallion, we added two eggs (sharing!) which were over easy and dripping with rich, yolks deliciousness. We also split a breakfast sandwich called the MacDutch: maple griddle cakes, egg, cheddar and pulled HAM. I mean, the melty cheddar, the sweetness of the maple and the salty, tender pulled pork -- dumb yum. We also split a cream puff filled with a small drizzle of orange caramel and a giant dollop of fresh hazelnut whipped cream. Even the pate choux exceeded all expectations. Two squeezed that morning glasses of OJ and the grand total was 23 bucks or so. Eat here. Your stomach will thank you.

    This update deserves it's own separate review. I FINALLY tried the breakfast sandwich, with the highly-touted homemade biscuit option and with the sausage option. Oh my f**king god is this sandwich amazing. Sorry Ohno, I love your breakfast sandwiches too, but Dutch's just beat you in a street fight. I don't know if they use ground unicorn horns in their biscuits, but they just melt in your mouth. The biscuit, combined with the maple(?) sausage makes for an amazing mouth sensation. It pains me to even write the words 'mouth sensation', but it's completely true. What a flavor combination. My only complaint is that I didn't order two. Give it a shot. Sandwich + coffee was about $6 or $7. Totally worth it.

    Dutch's is simple. And that's why it's amazing. Dutch's isn't for the tourist looking for a mind-blowing five-star frou-frou tell-all-your-friends-when-you-get-home dinner. It's for the Mainers. The ones that park six (blustery cold) blocks away from their work because those monthly spaces are cheaper than the garage with spaces too small to fit a Vespa. A breakfast sandwich under $5? Made to order? On a homemade biscuit? Delicious. This is breakfast-on-the-go nirvana. Comfort soup for lunch that won't break the bank but doesn't skimp on heartiness? Perfect. No nonsense, tasty, filling ... and simple. Portland needed Dutch's.

    Dutch's is a neighborhood restaurant. Sort of a cross between a deli and a diner. Bare bones interior, with plenty of room to congregate while waiting for lunch or over a cup of coffee. The menu is simple, but filled with delicious satisfying foods. I had the pulled ham sandwich and a side of homemade potato chips served in a wax paper bag. Both were very good. The chips so thin and crispy they crunch and then practicaly melt away( tasty). The ham was fall apart good, and topped with Carolina BBQ sauce and crispy slaw and was served on one of the soon to be famous Dutch crunch rolls (crunchy and sweet).

    I can't recommend Dutch's enough! Our second time coming and the food was even better than I remembered. The cinnamon buns are mouthwatering, the breakfast sandwich made with their house made sausage on a biscuit is delicious and you can't go wrong ordering the crispy hash browns as a side. The owners Ian and Lucy are so friendly and engaging and have clearly poured their heart and soul into the menu. I look forward to visiting Portland just to come to Dutch's again!

    I'm not one who throws around five-stars or rushes out to a place on opening day... but here I am leaving a five-star review for a place that opened just two hours ago. If Dutch's goal is to be an artisanal diner - a place where you can get good "basic" breakfast and lunch from scratch food fast - then they are already succeeding. One of the reasons I feel so strongly about Dutch's so quickly is because it doesn't feel like Portland inside... it feels like Maine. And that's insanely refreshing in this food scene that can sometimes be exclusive. It really feels like every quality deli I grew up going to throughout the state. Space wise, it's HUGE in comparison to most other places in town (and sparsely decorated) - so between it's wide openness, simplicity, and large windows, you really do feel like you're stepping off the streets of Congress Street in Portland, Maine and into some "mom and pop" type place in Sebago or Bethel where time slows down a bit. It's a beautiful thing. The staff seemed EXTREMELY pleasant and knowledgeable, though maybe there were some "we're new/still figuring this out" jitters as my server forgot to actually get my coffee until the next person in line ordered coffee, too. No big deal, because they handled the forgetfulness with grace and a smile! So far, I've gotten (I'll update this when I've tried other things): - Traditional Egg Sandwich ($4.50) - This comes with egg, cheddar, and your choice of maple sausage or bacon. I asked for it without the meat - but the price stayed the same. Maybe Dutch's will consider a $2.50 to $3.50 option for those of us who just want a good ol' fashioned egg & cheese breakfast sammy. The sandwich comes on your choice of an english muffin, a bagel, or a biscuit. The girl at the counter said they made the biscuits in house, so so that's what I went with. It was exactly what I wanted from an egg sandwich - I could actually taste the sharpness of the cheddar, and my egg was freshly fried (as the yolk was still a bit soft - just the way I like it in a sandwich). The biscuit was flavorful (and I'm sure slathered in butter and drizzled with honey would have been divine) and held up perfectly despite it's fragile appearance, but I probably wouldn't get it again because it was just a little too much for me personally. - Brioche Cinnamon Bun ($2.50) - Just a little big ago I was complaining about the serious lack of ooey, gooey cinnamon rolls in Portland. I voiced my concern on social media, and was told multiple places that make them. None of them were what I was looking for which was big, soft, oozing with cinnamon at the center, and a heavy-handed vanilla drizzle on top. Wouldn't you know... that's EXACTLY what they are here at Dutch's. They may be the best cinnamon roll I've had to date in Portlandtown. And at just $2.50? Goodbye, hips. - Potato salad ($3 for a small/$4 for a large) - They tell me this is vegetarian. Dear Heavenly Father, I certainly hope it is because it's SOOOOOOO DAYYYUMMMMM GOOOOOD. Dangerously good. Smoky and creamy and eggy and potato-y and... I just dribbled drool on my keyboard. Hmmmm. - The Grasshopper ($8.50) - My least favorite thing to date. It's just okay - there's WAY too much bread and not enough of the veg/cheese filling. This would be better as a wrap or just a plain ole' salad. Probably would never get this again. Still to try: - Not-So-Traditional Egg Sandwich ($4.50) - Comes with egg white, avocado, cheddar cheese, and chimichurri - Crispy Hash Browns ($3.50) - Quinoa Tabouleh Salad ($3.00 for small/$4.00 for large) - Vegan Fried Rice ($3.00 for small/$4.00 for large) Dutch's makes my heart happy because - as you can see - the prices are very fair (minus meatless breakfast sandwich options) they are very clearly vegetarian and gluten-free friendly. Their menu has a "V" and "GF" next to the items that are safe to eat for those diets... I think all menus in Portland should be doing this, and I want to hug the person at Dutch's who thoughtfully made this decision! All in all, I think this place is quickly going to become a beloved breakfast sandwich spot!

    Lots of space, no line (yet), and delicious food. I tried the crispy chicken sandwich, and it was even better than I expected. Then it was a full onslaught of amazing pastries for dessert. The only downside to this place is the food coma you're left in after devouring all the sweets. I'll definitely be back soon to try a few more of their sandwiches. Those folks at Powerpay across the street are lucky to have so many outstanding options!

    Absolutely outstanding! We are a family of five and everyone ate all their food and everyone loved what they ordered. You have to try the home fries! We passed them around the table and everyone said how delicious they are. Doesn't look like much from the outside, don't let it fool you! This place rocks!

    So, I've only had their grilled cheese but it's a really good grilled cheese and everything else looks really good too. And I want to eat here everyday for lunch and now look forward to when I can go again. I also was trying to think how I could justify going there for breakfast in the morning before work because their breakfast specials and bagel sandwiches look really good. But I'm pretty pleased with their grilled cheese regardless and I also ate the yummiest chocolate chip cookie of life from there. All I ask is that they add some chips to there repertoire that I can enjoy with my grilled cheese because I'm not much of a soup person and their hash browns were actually pretty greasy and not that tasty.

    I had breakfast at Dutch's on a Saturday with my boyfriend. It was awesome! It was easy to park on the street. The service was friendly and quick. And the food was delicious. I had the scallion stallion. Thank you, Dutch's, for putting sprouts on a breakfast sandwich. Putting little twists like this on already fantastic food really makes Dutch's stand out. My boyfriend had an egg sandwich with chimichurri sauce and avocado. It was great! We shared the loaded home home fries, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and deliciously covered in cheese, bacon and scallions. And I got a biscuit with butter and jam. Literally melted in my mouth and the blueberry jam was so flavorful I ate the leftover with a spoon. Later in the day I had the tomato and cheese croissant. Perfect! And the cinnamon bun, which made me weep tears of joy. Dutch's does it right!

    Food is just soooo good. This is one of the few places I trust that the special is going to be amazing, whatever it is. Avocado, bacon & home made spicy sauce killed it on home made bread. Breakfast sandwiches also 5 stars. Ambience needs work- you don't have to be fancy or overly elaborate, but put something in that huge room so I don't feel totally awkward. Some music would be nice too.

    Maple sausage breakfast sandwich on a biscuit...it held me down for the rest of the day. Sweet maple flavor from the sausage, buttery crumbly biscuit, deliciousness. I would have preferred a thicker patty to balance out the thick biscuit though. They have a great offering of hand made pastries!

    You know how they say don't judge a book by its cover? Well, don't judge this sandwich shop by its sparsely-decorated sprawling dining area. Sure, it kind of feels like you've walked into your middle school cafeteria when you step through the doors, but what you'll get here is so much better than anything the lunch ladies ever served up. On my first visit here, there were a few patrons divided among the tables, and someone behind the counter who looked eager to take our order. While we were checking out the menu - they do have a large menu board, but detailed descriptions are available on menus at the counter - we were encouraged to try samples of everything from the vegan fried rice (thumbs up, despite a strong hatred of celery) to the malted brownies (OMG). We settled on sandwiches and some of their homemade chips, and waited while they packed them to go. I had decided on The Grasshopper (griddled haloumi with fresh veggies), which I had high hopes for. It was tasty, but the bread to fillings ratio was way off, and what was supposed to be a mix of greens turned out to be just an abundance of pea shoots. Maybe they're still working out the kinks, because this would be a real winner if they could bulk it up a bit. The biscuits they use for breakfast sandwiches are killer. Tipped off to the fact that breakfast sandwiches were just as pricey sans-meat, I opted for the Not-so-Traditional version, which includes egg white (I asked for a regular egg instead), avocado, cheddar, and chimichurri. Way more impressed with this than the lunch sandwich, and if breakfast is served all day (I don't remember if it is) I'd gobble down one of these for lunch as well.

    Wow!!! Based on reviews I tried the original with a biscuit and holy heaven this was awesome!!!!!! Fresh, buttery and the staff was delightful! Yummy!!!! Hash browns were also amazing but my appetite ran out!!!!

    Every good boozehound knows that after a heavy night of drinking until last call, the most important part of recovery is a nice brunch. Well, breakfast, at least. See, we wanted to do brunch at some place called Marcy's Diner. But it turns out a bunch of other people had the same idea. And those people were less hungover and much more on top of that plan. Fuck those fucks. So rather than wait 45 minutes to put food into my protesting stomach, we wandered over to Dutch's. No regrets. It's not a diner. I wouldn't even call it brunch. But it WAS breakfast. And you know what? It was pretty spectacular. It's sort of a strange setup. You order your food and sit down and they bring it to you, almost like a deli or some such thing. Except a deli with super fancy breakfast food. And apparently extremely popular breakfast burritos. I skipped on that because I prefer not to get diarrhea before noon as a general rule. However, I did order the special -- it was smoked salmon on a flavored cream cheese on some kind of toast. OK, I admit it's not the best description, but it was awhile ago! And you know what? It was amazing. Not exactly my typical hangover recovery food, but it totally hit the spot and I actually felt great. It was weird to eat something (mostly) healthy at a breakfast place, but I was happy I did, and I really thought the salmon/flavored cream cheese combo was excellent. Along with some... I think there were some herbs or something? What am I, a food doctor? Anyway. It was pretty awesome. And affordable. And they let us have free water. And some really cute girl was fixing her bike in front of the window. So that wasn't too bad. I'd go back.
