My friend and I went here yesterday to grab a couple of beers and appetizers on the deck. We ordered the calamari and coconut shrimp. The food came quite quickly but as soon as the waitress set it on the table we knew there was something wrong. The calamari was barely golden from being deep fried. It was actually mostly white. I touched the batter on one of the rings and it was very greasy. I then grabbed one of the head pieces of the calamari and pulled some of the batter away and it was cold and slimy. We set the plate on the edge of the table and waited for the waitress to come by. She asked if there was something wrong and I told her it was cold and raw. She didn't seem to believe me. I again told her it was raw. She just stared at me. My friend told her to touch it and feel that it was cold and raw but she just carried the plate off. The coconut shrimp were edible but nothing great. They obviously were refrozen from a box. Portland has so many great places to eat but unfortunately this is not one of them.

my friend and i took a day trip up to portland to check out the area. we swung by dry dock since we wanted some fresh seafood, it was casual and it was "waterfront". nothing horrible went on at dry dock, but we were not impressed at all either. the food was alright (we both got crab sandwiches) and the waterfront view was not very lovely. you don't really see much from your table except for a building being renovated and a little bit of water. also the picnic table we were sat at and the deck area was not very clean. the service was friendly but pretty slow. we were starving and ate here, but nothing too special and i was very excited for fresh crab meat and sad it didn't meet my expectations.

We stopped at this place for lunch and it was ok. At first I thought our waitress was really rude/mean until I figured out that she just had no idea how to handle my dairy and gluten allergy. I had a chicken salad and I asked for it without cheese, croutons, and anything else that has dairy or gluten. I was bought a salad with croutons and cheese which I picked off myself. The salad itself was ok but I am not a fan of salads where everything is not mixed in. The plate was not big enough to mix in and nothing was cut up so essentially you were had to chop up everything yourself or just eat big chunks of onion, tomato, lettuce, chicken, etc. It wasn't a bad salad though. My boyfriend had a lobster roll which he did not think was anything special. I had 2 glasses of white wine which were good. We also had a plate of fries which were fine, like fries in most places. My boyfriend had a beer and then a really bad bloody mary that he couldn't finish. Overall, it was an ok place that I would recommend to visit only to drink. The 2nd floor deck was really nice as it overlooks the bay and it was pretty relaxing to sit there, drink, and enjoy the view and the breeze.

Smaller menu not overly impressive. We got our food in less then 30 min. The sun was shining we were able to enjoy the back deck. The coconut shrimp tasted like a munchkin.... very sweet and enjoyable.

I stopped here on a whim while in Portland with my boyfriend. I found the service to be pretty good (although we waited quite a while for the receipt) and the prices to be fair. The atmosphere was okay; it seemed pretty empty considering it was about 6 or 6:30pm on a Friday. The food itself was pretty bland. I started with the onion soup appetizer, which was okay, but nothing special. As my entrée, I has the fried shrimp roll which was pretty disappointing. It was a pile of breaded, fried shrimp on a hot dog bun. The shrimp itself was bland and tasteless, and there was no sauce of any sort to go with it to compensate for the blandness. My boyfriend had a burger (I don't remember which) but he also had the same complaint about his burger: it was bland and under-seasoned. Both of the dishes came with fries. The fries were real potatoes sliced with the skin still on which were good overall, but they seemed a little too full of oil (like the cooking oil wasn't hot enough so it soaked instead of fried). Overall, the atmosphere and service was okay, but the food was really bland.

I was told this was the place was a great cheap place to get a lobster so I figure I tried it. It was cheaper but the lobster was a little overcooked and watery. Well I get that is what I get when I didn't want to spend a lot on lobster. The didn't care for the fries either or the coleslaw.

Was in NE last week and this was by far our most disappointing meal of the trip. I regret not having said anything to the server or manager. Worse thing was the waitress delivered our lobster to the table next to us. Once realized, she picked it up and put it on our table and said the other customer had not touched it. I had a fried fish sandwich that was stone cold as well as the terrible french fries. I'm so disappointed that I got sucked into a tourist trap with lousy food.

Most restaurants had a wait on a Saturday night but this one had some open tables. The shuttle driver at the hotel had suggested it and said it was very good. I'm glad we listened to him cause we agreed after dinner. Oysters were huge! Properly shucked, nicely presented. Our waitress went back to make sure they had enough before placing the order cause they had been low. Along with that we had a lb of steamers which were great too. The broth was just right and dipped in butter, they were awesome. I also got a clam chowder. The chowder was hearty with a large amount of clams and potatoes. A bowl served as a light meal. I wish it were creamier though. We sat outside on the rear porch. It wasn't directly on the water but a few yards away from the harbor that you could still see. Service was prompt. The server was working hard to keep the items coming smoothly. The oysters and steamers were the best we had during our trip and it was moderately priced. It was refreshing when we left to say, finally a good meal worth the price. Wouldn't hesitate to go back on future trip.

Definitely a decent place if you're hungry, a tourist and don't want to go far. The clam chowder's different from the typical New England fare and it's pretty good. The lobster roll was a bit too cold and rubbery for my liking, but the amount of meat was generous.

Outdoor seating is a plus but options are limited. Some vegetarian friendly menu items. Good beer selection. Reasonable prices. TERRIBLE service, we were planning a full dinner and ended up leaving after nachos( yummy). Try it, just hope for a better server than we had!

Lobster bacon sandwich & Fries for lunch. Meh. The lobster was tough and the fries were overdone. Given the amount of restaurants in the area, it will be sometime before I give this place another chance.

Rude waitstaff wouldn't let us sit outside. They lost our business and respect that day. There are better places in Portland that deserve and WANT your business.

We were on a food crawl through Portland while on vacation and had a hankering for some oysters. We happened on the Dry Dock and they had a half dozen oysters and also their shrimp bloody mary. Both were perfect, the waitstaff was fast and friendly.

Mussels were divine! Lobster bisque was very good also. Fried clams weren't very good - batter tasted old. Lobster in grilled lobster sandwich was overcooked & rubbery. Gazpacho was yummy. Crab cake was pretty good. It's nice that there's a different veggie burger special each day. Service was kind of slow but not too bad.

It's restaurant week in Portland and the Dry Dock, as well as many other places, have a 3 course meal for $20. We had Coconut Shrimp, a 10 oz NY Strip w/garlic mashed, & blueberry pie. The entire meal was very good and the steaks were superb. We enjoyed everything. I will definitely go back again, even without the special.

Dry Dock was a disappointment for numerous reasons. First of all, when you walk in it looks like an old age home. Perhaps you would be lucky enough to sit on the porch, but not us. We were seated in the "lounge area" but the waitress was totally overwhelmed. We wanted fish tacos only to be told that they were fried. We requested that they be grilled (which, to be honest, can be done to any type of fish that is not frozen) and we were rejected by the waitress ("i'm sorry, they're fried). The Lobster Dinner was okay, but overall I would NOT go back there, especially considering the other awesome places in Portland. Whomp whommmpp.

Worst experience, EVER. Food wasn't great, but what made it so horrible was the service. Brunette server was also the bartender - she was basically MIA - came by to ask how everything was after we were waiting for 40+ minutes with no food (mind you the restaurant was not that busy). She would ask us a question but would walk away before we could answer. By far the worst experience I've had at ANY restaurant. My advice, go to another restaurant. Their location may be prime, but not worth the mediocre food and horrendous service.

The good: nice outdoor seating and really enjoyed the calamari that we ordered as an appetizer. The bad: the fish tacos that we ordered. In writing, they sound delicious. In reality, they are bland and not worth however much they are listed for. The ugly: am I the only one who thinks it's dumb when restaurants refuse to split checks? This place did just that, and I am kinda (aka a lot) heated about it: it's 2015 people...get in the game.

I am assuming most of the bad reviews are for the service? We came here on sunday night of labor day weekend and sat outside. The hostess informed us the food is an hour behind so we put in our appetizer right away. about 20 minutes later we put in our meal. Our meal came out before the appetizer. We got the seafood platter to share and it was ok. We got the chili nachos as our app which just looked like they threw it in the microwave because our chips were burned and so was the cheese on top. Luckily it came with ok dips like guacamole and sour cream w salsa to make the nachos better. If it were fresh we would have loved it. The chili actually tasted good but it wasnt warm so we had to make do with how it was served :/

Nice hostess, nice and attentive waitress! Wonderful service. They had a good selection of beer on tap. Most of the places we tried to go to had a wait but this place had plenty of open tables. We wondered why because the food hit the spot and the staff were all really nice. The French Onion soup was delicious and so was the burger. It is pretty standard American fare with burgers and other seafood, and not too expensive. Shrimp was also great.

Not many yelpers wrote reviews in Freeport... so we decided to walk around. There's a lot of Irish Pubs and Italian restaurants around. We we're looking for something more casual because we had just flown into town. This was a cute little place with a good menu. I had their "famous" steak burger, which I thought was just alright. But for $8 which included the fries, I thought it was very good. My girlie had the crab salad which was a lot of lump crab meat. Very good. The chowder was a bit on the watery side, but not bad. The chili is much better. If you like brews check out the local brew, Allagheny White Ale... it's like a Hefenweizen, served with a lemon too.

I expected more seafood on the menu on a pier in Maine ... ordered what they had, it was okay. Good service and great selection of local beer.

This place was awful and the customer service was abhorrent. Our party of 4 stopped by for some drinks on the outside deck, which was barely half full. When we ordered our drinks and she asked about what our dinner choices were, we told her we were only interested in cocktails and her response was," well, you can only sit out here if you're eating." Firstly, if that's the policy, that's fine, but we were not told that by the hostess who sat us or the waitress before she fetched our drinks. Secondly, we now have our drinks and are seated, we aren't going to chug our glasses of wine and beer so that you can have a vacant table for.....oh right, there is no one waiting and patio area is a ghost town. When I inquired if they had a raw bar, the waitress pointed to the steamers and fried clams on the specials board. We decided, per our leisure, to finish our first drinks and leave and head to one of the numerous other seafood places literally a hundred feet away (you can see them from the porch!) This place isn't special and acts like it's the only choice in the Old Port when it's not. A bitchy, uninformed waitress and the lack of communication drove us across the street to another restaurant where we spent over $200 and had a fantastic time. No tip and no return to this train wreck. The two and a half stars and crappy service stories seem to be spot on by fellow Yelpers. Maybe they should take notice.

Before I wrote my STELLAR review, I decided to read some of the others. First of all, why in G-d's name would anyone order wings or steak or ANYTHING other than seafood at a SEAFOOD establishment? Now, for the review...the staff was accommodating from the beginning. Not only were we sat immediately, but they were able to fit all 14 of us in the cozy upstairs. Ok, so this isn't the "best looking" of places, but it was certainly the "best tasting". They forgot to bring my clam chowder, but who really cares because I was busy feasting on one of the best lobsters I ever tasted. Originally from the east coast, I'm now a Midwesterner, and a snobby one at that when it comes to my seafood. One word...delicious. If I ever came back, I would visit this place again. Oh, and btw, we orders wings, potato skins and other appetizers and it was all good.

I had a nice seafood lunch here while visiting Portland. I came to Portland for a few hours with the intention of eating my first Maine lobster and I succeeded. The clam cakes were decent. I had a few little tough cookies in there that were hard to chew. The breading was also kind of heavy. For my entree, I gorged on an entire lobster. I had to remind myself how to crack it open as I hadn't done it for many years. The lobster was great. It seems this is one of the lower priced seafood restaurants in the Old Port district. They did have three local beers on tap which would have been a plus if I felt like drinking. The service was so-so. Our waitress wasn't horribly awful, but wasn't great either. She didn't pay attention to us for a while after we were clearly done eating. As it was cold outside, I didn't get to view their outdoor seating, but I bet it's nice in the summer as the restaurant is right up next to the coast. They also have an upstairs dining room.

I haven't eaten very many times at the Dry Dock. Although I can't say much for the ambience (none, plus there's a TV) however, it's warm on a cold Maine day, and the burgers are amazingly delicious.

The service can be hit or miss, but I've had some very good grub here. Crab melt was good, also good lobster rolls & nachos. Solid selection of beers on draft.

We went to the Dry Dock for lunch on Saturday during a leisurely stop in Portland.. we got a seat outside which was great! But - our server was hating life and our crab melt & crab roll were filled with pieces of shell - and didn't even smell like seafood which was more than a little weird to me. I've had an only ok experience here before and this visit brought it down to a new low.

OMG how this place has tumbled ! It was busy , but that's no excuse for a hotdog I wouldn't feed to a dog, fish cakes that had more oil than fish in them, a crab roll who's crab looked like shredded cheese, and wine that tasted like windex. Throw in the fact our hands stuck to the sticky table, dirty menus, and ambivalent staff, it's a shame what happened here. We were here two years ago, and to see how bad this place is now is sad.

    (1)
  • Chris G.

Wow. Awful. Waitress forgot our drinks. The limes in the drinks were even dry. Overpriced and underwhelming. John Taffer would rip this place a new one.

Lobster was good, as you can't really screw up Maine lobster. Service marginal, surprised lobster came with nothing. Wouldn't recommend.

Worst steak sandwich in the history of steak sandwiches. The tenderloin was oxidized so bad the bacon around it had also turned grey, it was also raw before I sent it back. The pasta salad was off, maybe aged a little. I wound up going next door to Flatbread for a pizza after wasting $50 on an inedible meal. Plenty of other places to eat in Portland.

Had lunch out on the top deck with my sister-in-law. We love to meet there for lunch because it is close to her work, quick, and easy. Today we both had salads and as we were nearing the end my sister-in-law found a short curly hair in her salad. She let our server know and our server (who had given us great service the whole time), was very apologetic and wonderful about it. She offered us a dessert on the house which we passed on ( trying to be healthy) and said she would have comped our drinks, but we had waters. We didn't want anything we just wanted to give her a heads up that it happened. This won't stop me from going back, I get that sometimes it happens, but hopefully they will take better precautions in the future.

After a fun day of eating great food, we decided to have dinner here. I didn't complain the whole trip. We waited 20 minutes before the waitress took our water orders. The worst decision ever. We waited 35 minutes for raw burger burgers. Then, another 20 minutes to tell the waitress that the burgers barely felt the heat from the stove. Thank God for french fries...those were decent and cook. At the end, it's a long wait for some uncook burgers.

I had here for a casual lunch and ordered buffalo wings. We ordered calamari to share and my girlfriend ordered the soup and half sandwich combo. The buffalo wings was a big order and very fresh. The calamari wasn't as fresh as my first visit and the sandwich and soup and pretty decent. All in all a pretty decent casual place to grab a bite to eat.

I thought the Dry Dock was just OK. The food I had was decent and they have a lot of sea food options but there are so many good sea food places on the waterfront that I imagine they are up against some stiff competition. The place also feels dated though it is more modern than DiMillo's which feels absolutely ancient. It has a patio area that really doesn't have much of a view but it's at least outside. The patio has a bottom and top floor section. I sat in the bottom but when I looked up there were spaces in the floor above and I was constantly worrying about what was making it through the cracks and falling into my food and drink. The staff was really nice but I don't think I will go back.

Really bad food. The service was slow, and the food was almost inedible. From the moment I sat down the place gave me the chills. I felt like I was in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. I could list every unsanitary issues they have, or just tell you not to go. IE, I watched them clear a table and they never even washed it down before seating us. Not to mentioned outside in 86 degree weather ketchup bottles baking in the sun. Who doesn't like warm tomato paste? Stay away.

Returning to Portland from an outing on the Casco Bay Lines, the Dry Dock was a convenient stop for lunch on a sunny Saturday in late August. We asked for outdoor seating and were escorted to a brightly covered picnic table on the sunny porch. Beautiful flower boxes and hanging plants surrounded us and added to beauty of the late summer sunny day. I started with a cup of the clam chowder which was chuck full of clams and tender red potatoes. Though the specials board offered tempting alternatives, we both had clam rolls which were overflowing with nicely fried whole-body clams on the tradition hotdog roll. Coleslaw and onion rings were both excellent sides and margaritas topped of the summer lunch we'd hope for. The service was attentive and friendly throughout, the atmosphere relaxed and pleasant, and the prices quite reasonable. Very enjoyable!

My husband drags me here so he can get shrimp, and I suffer through the fishy smells of the dock simply because of the Allagash White in my hands. Okay, so it's not quite that bad, and the views from the deck make for a fun dining experience (if you can get there early enough for such a seat). On this particular occasion, the waitress told us that the Maine shrimp had been replaced earlier that week (due to the end of the season) and she didn't find the replacement to be as tasty. Even though it didn't affect my meal, I like when a waitress is attentive and honest with us. As for the food, there's so many options in Old Port that you can find something better, but the Dry Dock is a good, casual, outdoor spot for a drink.

We stopped in at the Dry Dock for drinks on a Sunday afternoon before going somewhere else for dinner. Nothing against the food at Dry Dock, we just had other plans. We all had wine & we were all happy. Our server was always nearby in case we needed anything and no one made us feel rushed. The menu looked tempting but we decided to save room for dinner so this is just a review of Dry Dock as a place to go for drinks.

I always stop at the Dry Dock when I'm in town. First time I went I was with my dad and probably for that reason I always go back. It's just a normal Old Port bar with decent food and cold beer, but I like it.

My wife and I had lunch here on the upstairs deck on a gorgeous summer afternoon in the Old Port. We had lunch on the deck upstairs overlooking the Portland Waterfront, Boone's Restaurant and the craziness at The Porthole with a disco band. Dry Dock is a fairly nondescript place right on Commercial St. and has been in Portland forever. It has great burgers and good sandwiches. It has a full bar and about a dozen beers on tap. My wife and I needed a place to chill and have a cold drink. Dry Dock tends to be more of a locals joint than most of the other places in town. I had a dozen oysters and the peel and eat shrimp while my wife had the gazpacho and a sandwich called the Crabby Diane with fresh Maine crab meat on whole toast w/tomato, sprouts & melted cheddar cheese. This sandwich was awesome! For $10.95, it was loaded, and I mean LOADED with crab meat and hardly any mayo. I would ask for mayo on the side because the lack of it with the crab meat makes the sandwich a bit on the dry side but wouldn't you rather have excessive crab meat anyway and less filler? EXACTLY!! The gazpacho was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and bright; cucumber, onion, tomato all blended.....delicious and refreshing. The oysters were good. My only complaint was that they were not particularly cold and the cocktail sauce was pretty generic. I think if they added some more horseradish, that would have made it great but definitely Sysco cocktail sauce. Our waitress was pretty cool and chatty. She was pretty up on the Portland food scene so it was a good conversation. She was attentive, prompt and engaging. She was wearing these cool cotton pants from Thailand and that started the conversation. They were perfect pants for a music festival or a day at the beach...funny times! So if you're looking for a local, low key place for a good burger, a chill vibe and a great crab meat sandwich, Dry Dock is the place. It's pretty no frills but if this is what you're looking for, you have found it right here.

My expire here was only nice because I could sit outside next to the water. I ordered my drink, but did not request a dish sanitizer tablet with it! I only noticed there was on there after I started to feel so sick, and noticed my cocktail was changing colors!! So ridicules!

Right before you step inside, if you look to your right or left, or turn around and look across the street, you'll see about a dozen better options. If you want seafood go to Gilberts (to your right), or great irish pub just to your left, or Flatbread beside that has great pizza and a nice outdoor patio to eat by the water.

Waitress was great. Picnic table was really sticky, I had to put napkins to lean against it. The view from where we were on the porch was of the side of a potted plant and the back of a factory-looking building. Maybe 30 degrees of vision creeps into the bay. Lobster bacon sandwich was good. If your hungry it's a fine place to eat on par with TGI Fridays I'd say. They fry things, you buy the same beer as anywhere, it's fine....

Lobster roll, clam chowder, crab salad, oysters on half shell, fish & chips Sat on deck and view was lovely! Food was just Ok. Fisherman's Grill spoiled us (Fisherman's Grill has BEST lobster roll, chowder and haddock!)...but meal was alright.

My husband and I ate dinner at dry dock last night and I can honestly say that it was the worst food that I have ever been served. We should have turned around when we walked in and saw the dirty and stained carpets in the dining and bar area. We both ordered a cup of clam chowder and I got the clam cake and my husband got the half of turkey sandwich. The clam cake was very greasy and after the first bite I looked inside and there was not one piece of clam, not even a speck (it's so close to the water that you could probably get fresh clams while standing in the parking lot). It also tasted like it had some freezer burn. My husbands sandwich came dry with no condiment on it and was on stale white bread. As for the clam chowder, it was like eating a spoonful of salt at a time. I looked closely at it and could not tell you what is in it. Everything was dark brown. The entire restaurant also did not have any knives, maybe the other 10 people in the place were using them? We quickly sucked down our room temperature beer, paid, and jetted. dry dock actually made the midnight dominos taste gourmet....they should probably change the name to dry sock.

I had the breaded shrimp with fries. The portions were great, I was surprised by how much shrimp was on my plate. I thought the food itself was good but had no seasoning. My wife isn't a seafood person, so she got a burger. While cooked well, she said it didn't even seem to have salt and pepper on it, let alone any other flavor. The service was great and the outdoor area is cozy. If you're looking for scenery and excellent food, you're better off at Two Lights.

Dry Dock was a mixed bag. It was nice to sit on their upstairs deck and see the boats in the harbor, but it was kind of hard to see our food when it got dark. There was also a street light in the parking lot next door aimed straight at my friend's face. The nachos we got for an appetizer were just dumb. They sprinkled some cheese on top of a heap of chips and then served them with salsa, guac, sour cream, and jalapenos on the side. I don't know what others expect, but when I order nachos I want the cheese to be layered throughout and the toppings to be on top and plentiful. Condiment cups aren't going to cut it. I got the soup and sandwich meal with clam chowder and a turkey sandwich. The clam chowder was great and clearly homemade, but the sandwich was just meh. It was thick cold slices of turkey and not much for toppings. Our meals were served with a pickle and a slice of cantaloupe?? The cantaloupe just seemed so out of place. This place was just average.

I hate here last weekend, as it seemed to have a good number of locals dining there and the rest of the restaurants were packed with drunk tourists. The hostess and waitress were very friendly, and the building was nice. I had the lobster stew, and my fiance had a burger. The lobster stew was good, if a bit luke warm. I should have been more careful. I started getting severely ill on the ride home, and had food poisoning-like symptoms for a while. Not sure if it was actually food poisoning, but I'm not going to take my chances.

We only had a couple beers here which we're ice cold which was a plus but the atmosphere just didn't do it for us. We originally went for a couple appetizers and some drinks but only did the drinks (fast) and left. The bar tender you could tell didn't want to be there and came off cold and didn't even offer us a menu. All in all I heard good things about the food but we left as it felt as if "locals only" should be there.

I'm really not sure what these guys are going for. It's one of those classic ocean front tourist traps. You know the type of place I'm talking about. Worst food on the block but they have a killer location so who cares? Well I was fooled and I should have cared. Sad. Old. Avoid.

The brunette bartender is so rude. I wouldn't give this place my business.

Grilled lobster bacon sandwich with all the fixins. It was tasty and the service was good. Worth dropping in? Sure thing.

A group of my friends went to the Dry Dock for a late lunch on 7/13. We waited 10 minutes before we were acknowledged at the table waited 40 minutes to order and then an hour for our food . The clams in the clam roll were cold and the toasted roll for the lobster roll was cold. The food was mediocre and the service awful! Won't go there again and neither will my friends.
