Great selection. Hard ice cream, basic soft serve and sorbet. Really great prices. Did not see frozen yogurt but I was in there for pure ice cream. I had the almond crunch (yum!, I forgot how rich and sweet this flavor is) and husband had the strawberry cheesecake (good but not my thing) and a scoop of the grasshopper- which was good. Really friendly staff. Get the waffle cone!! It was the best one I've ever had. You can also get them dipped in chocolate with sprinkles or m&m's I think. I would DEFINITELY recommend coming here over the gelato places personally. The gelato didn't blow me away as much as I would've likes and they're pricey. CASH ONLY loses 1 star.

I tried two flavors, and then ordered different ones. And none tasted much different from the next, and were bland. Disappointed.

Beal's is such a great place to have a relaxing scoop (or two) of ice cream! I've been enjoying their ice cream for years, especially the Teaberry - which is FILLED with chunks of chocolate! I love the location, the cute tables - this is the perfect place for a date. The staff are very helpful, patient, and sweet. There are only two cons: 1) Parking is on the street, and sometimes it's very hard to get a spot in the Old Port, 2) I'm allergic to dairy now, so I can only enjoy the sorbet - I've had amazing plant-based ice creams, and would love it if Beal's could add some to their menu!

A delight to find such a high quality ice cream shop in a high traffic tourist area. The selections are in many ways unique, creative and fresh. What got my attention was the selection of sugar free ice cream. Usually you only find a single flavor available, but, at Beal's there are several sugar free selections. Bravo!

This one goes out to all my chocolate lovers out there. You know when you walk into an ice cream place and you really want chocolate ice cream, but you also really want chocolate chip cookie dough, but the thought of getting through all that boring vanilla ice cream to get to the cookie dough hits you and you just go with plain ole chocolate? CHOCOLATE. DOUGHBOY. That is the name that describes what we always needed: cookie dough in chocolate ice cream. Done. Boom. Why doesn't every place have this?! That being said I didn't love their chocolate ice cream, it was a little bland for a homemade place. Definitely still good, and nothing to complain about, but I wasn't wowed. Extra points for the cookie dough though. The staff were friendly but disorganized (didn't know who had ordered, who had paid, etc) and that might make it tough if you were trying to order 4+ ice creams at once.

I can't go to any new city without getting some dessert. And, I do love ice cream, so, no better treat to get in the summer. I headed over to Beals Ice Cream in Portland, ME. Beals uses their own exclusive ice cream base to make their many ice cream flavors, in addition to producing specialty products including frozen yogurt, sorbet, no sugar added ice cream, pies, cakes and more. I ordered their Moose Trail. Vanilla ice cream as a base, it's swirled with rich, chocolate fudge and tiny chocolate peanut butter cups. The ice cream is creamy and delicious, and the fudge and cups are bountiful, not leaving you searching for those "best parts", but being able to have some in every bite.

Very average ice cream. Tried the pistachio nut and has the orange pineapple. Could not finish the massive portions served and will never be returning for the unmemorable experience.

I've only checked in once, but I grew up in Portland and have been here often! The quality is great. The staff are always friendly. The shop is an igloo, which is awesome on summer days. The flavors are wonderful and varied. The toppings you want, they probably have. The size/price ratio is generous. The only reason I'd deduct a star is that I'm quite partial to Red's in SoPo. Please understand tho, this is a top shelf choice for ice cream and a high quality product in and of itself.

Long lines, dirty tables need some attention. I had coffee heathbar ice cream but could not find any heathbar but microscopic slivers. Flavor of coffee was good. Skip the sprinkles they added crunch but no chocolate flavor at all.

This Beal's location can't really stand up against my local haunt at Kettle Cove. It isn't just because of the ice cream either (which lacks a certain something that I can't put my finger on). The entire experience at this shop is a little bit of a bummer, from hunting for parking to its cash only operations--at $3+ for a kiddie cone of hard ice cream, you will need more than a fiver to pay for your treat. I've also found the staff to be less than interactive (they seem to prefer talking to each other rather than engaging customers). On my latest visit, they were out of my staple flavor, so I decided to get a kiddie cone of Peanut Butter Cup. My bad on not getting a sample first--I assumed it was going to be peanut butter ice cream with some candy pieces, but it was chocolate! I guess most people would be fine with that, but I really don't enjoy chocolate flavors. Hubby ate 80% of my cone while I pined for the Coffee Oreo at Kettle Cove. If you come here, bring cash, ask for samples, and maybe try one of their flurries instead of their hard ice cream.

This was a great place to have some premium ice cream for a reasonable price in a great location in Portland Maine. I can't believe that they had Chocolate Lovers fling which is chocolate ice cream and brownies with maraschino cherries! It was awesome

Family seemed to love the ice cream and I thought it tasted good but there was 1 thing that kept it from getting 4 stars for me. The good: Lots of choices Good ice cream Busy so high turnover The meh: Cash only (seems to be common in the region so they are not alone in this) Long lines which at least means they are turning over product! They run out of flavors so come early The bad: Malts made in the cups. Malt powder was not fully mixed in. So when I ordered a thick malt the bottom was very thin. It felt like a smoothie. I figured that was okay and we just left. Eventually it got thick so I removed the lid to use my spoon. And there it is... a pile of malt powder on the top not mixed in. Made for a very... chewy? second half of my malt. If I lived in the area I'd go back and figure everyone screws up. But part of me can't help but wonder if they blended the malts in a blender or metal cup if it would've come out better.

If it says anything, it's my second day here in a row. I'm from CA and beside it being freezing weather, this ice cream is a real treat worth being cold over! I'm no ice cream expert but I like to have dessert in every new city that I'm in. My faves are Grasshopper and Coffee Oreo! Flavorful and light feeling ice cream which can be deceiving as it means more time at the gym.

This ice cream was delicious! They had a great selection to please everyone in our group of 7 - non fat frozen yogurt to every-candy-under-the-sun full fat ice cream. It was a great stop while being a tourist in ME. It's cash only, so stop at an ATM before ordering.

Hubby and I frequently stop by Beal's when walking around Old Port, and we like the ice cream flavors and huge portions. That said, the other day, we had a less than positive experience. The servers were both scooping ice cream and handling cash at the register, and not wearing gloves when scooping ice cream. The problem was that their bare hands were hitting the sides of the tubs as they were scooping, but worse yet, they were using their bare thumbs or other fingers to hold on to the large scoops as they pulled them out of the tub. It was gross, and totally ruined our (pricey) ice cream that day. Guess we won't be going back.

Nice place in downtown Portland, but really it could have been better. The ice cream was all right and the place was definitely hopping, but what on earth is with places being cash only?? They seemed to run out of flavors pretty regularly and would just take them down off of the menu. The ice cream itself was pretty average, but my husband wasn't a fan of his malt- it wasn't very well mixed. Really, this was ok, but nothing special.

  • Angela L.

The Ice cream was "eh". I went with a standard chocolate kiddie cup and was thoroughly disappointed. The place looked packed so I assumed it was good. Bad decision. The ice cream tasted like cocoa flavored ice, barely. The staff also was more concerned with their own conversations than with helping customers. Additionally, for as busy as they were I found it interesting how both workers waited on one person at a time.

  • Maddie K.

This is the best ice cream in town. The serving sizes are HUGE so you really only need one serving. I would suggest getting a waffle cone because they are homemade. But all of the ice cream flavors are delicious. My favorite is moose tracks! I always try a bunch of flavors and they are always really nice about it. They also sell really cute t-shirts. But this is the best ice cream in Old-Port.

I don't love ice cream, but I get pangs for it during the year. Enjoyed my trip into Beal's, because no matter what... I enjoy my ice cream with sprinkles no matter how old I get. This was an old time ice cream shop of my childhood without the need for a booster seat or someone else to drive me.

As I'm writing this, we're in the middle of the infamous Polar Vortex of 2014. It's snowing and all I can think about is... Beals. The Old Port is positively saturated with "frozen dairy" options the same way Seattle is with coffee shops. Every. SINGLE. block there's some kind of gelato, frozen yogurt, or ice cream store. And among them, Beals is probably my favorite. If you're looking for bizarre or unique flavor options like so many other of the nearby stores offer... you will be sorely disappointed. Beals isn't in competition with the rest of them to confuse or blow-out your taste buds (which, by the way, exhausts me. Woohoo, you created Jack Daniels-Caramel-Diet Coke-Cherry-Regret flavored gelato. Yawn. And for how much? $6 for a small? Appealing to tourists maybe. As a local? I'm all set). Beals offers tried and true flavors that have long stood the test of time in the history of ice cream, including: cookie dough, cake batter, mocha fudge, french vanilla, rum raisin, orange pineapple, and teaberry (whenever my sister visits from away one of the VERY first things we do is coordinate a time for her to swing over to Beals to eat her weight in teaberry ice cream. She's a teaberry aficionado and claims Beals makes the absolute best... and, truthfully, she won't eat anyone else's!). Served in heaping portions on cones or in a dish for Maine-appropriate prices - what's not to love? My personal favorite? Chocolate Raspberry Truffle. If this particular flavor was a boy, I wouldn't be ashamed of a lotta PDA (read: I would make-out with him absolutely everywhere and not care who I was offending). It's seductive, it's intense, it's comforting... it's a straight-up mouthgasm. The downfall (because even in seemingly perfect relationships there are issues)? Beals doesn't always have it. And if they don't - and that's what this seriously irrational chocholic is craving - I'll leave empty-handed more often than not. Also - to echo other folk's frustrations - the cash only policy sucks. Seriously, there's no way to sugar(cone) coat it. In my perfect ice cream world they'd change that and always have a little ChocoRaspTruffleSexiness on hand for me!

Delicious ice cream, I love the coconut almond bar, a coconut base with chocolate chips and almonds. You can't go wrong with Beals!!

Cash only, but you have an ATM in the shop? Why? Hmmmm!? Anywho, my favorite ice cream joint in Portland! Love love love the many options. Anything chocolate, coffee, and cookie dough please! You walk in and the aroma is just pure deliciousness. Cozy little spot. Love the cute little tables right outside the shop = summah time fun.

Yikes! I didn't even know you could mess up ice cream. Hubby and I went in for a scoop and left $8 in the hole and an unfulfilled sweet tooth. The ice cream was basically tasteless and freeze burnt. We threw ours away and went down the street to another spot. True story.

The ice cream is delightful. I've been coming here for over ten years and I've never been disappointed! Love it all. My favorite ice cream flavors are Peppermint Stick and Grapenut.

The grasshopper (like mint chocolate chip, but with oreo chunks added) is grrreat. It's creamy yet light-tasting. Then there is the Coffee Oreo, which could be the answer to all questions. Its coffee flavor is very rich and distinct (it's got a tad of that bitter sweetness); with this stuff melting in your mouth, you are done for the day. Those are my two favorites. The cookies and cream tasted like my freezer. The pistachio nut is better at Carvel's. If you're a chocolate junkie, you can try the Chocolate Lover's Fling (quite rich). 1 scoop $3.04 (I find that their 1 scoop is pretty godly sized!) 2 scoop $3.50 3 scoop $3.93 Cash only. Opens 11am or 11:30am. Indoor/outdoor seating. Nice place to chill at night. No bathroom.

I typically really like hard serve ice cream, but both my husband and I found ours to be a little bland. The staff were very nice and conversational, but they also don't accept credit cards, which can be a big downer when you're craving ice cream but don't want to get charged a fee by using a non-member ATM up the street. Parking can be terrible around it, so don't go down there expecting to just park and walk right in. But the real bummer is the credit card thing. In 2011, I can only imagine you're losing more money than saving by not allowing patrons to charge it... All in all, not totally thrilled by Beal's this time around....

  • Cynthia R.

VERY DELICIOUS ice cream it was so creamy and the service was excellent. Prices cheaper than cold stone and other ice cream parlors around the area, I would recommend it to all my friends and family !!

Stopped by for a quick snack before dinner (who says ice cream spoils your appetite?) and had a chance to sample the Moose Trail, Chocolate Lover's Fling, Rum Raisin and Coconut Almond Bar. Ultimately decided on the moose which came generously scooped, but it was pretty lackluster. Lacking in texture with generically sweet flavors that tasted almost a bit artificial. Nothing sets it apart from store bought fare except for higher prices, so 2 stars it is.

Summary: Fantastic selection of ice cream Pros: Ice Cream. Employees were very friendly and helpful Cons: Sizes are over proportioned (some people may think this is a good idea) . Comments: Honestly think the proportions are too big. A child size was large enough to fill me up, could imagine the larger sizes!

For some reason I was craving ice cream after lunch, even though it was a windy afternoon. It might have something to do with the fact that I walked by earlier and the place smelled so sweet. Anyways, they had some different and interesting flavors to try. I tried the ginger ice cream, which actually tasted like ginger ( what a concept! ) I asked the girl behind the counter what she liked and she recommended the pumpkin pie ice cream. I love the whole pumpkin thing during fall! It was delicious! I ordered just a single scoop but the portion was huge! I felt like it was two scoops of a regular chain ice cream shop. I would definitely recommend this place! Check it out if you're in Portland, great flavors and large portions!

We decided to stop by this place after dinner - and whoa did they serve gigantic scoops of ice cream! Overall pretty tasty (not "the best" but "pretty good"), and of the three flavors we tried I liked rum raisin the best. :)

After a hard day of walking all over Portland in the hot sun, I love to stop at Beal's for one main reason: a blueberry float with french vanilla ice cream and Cap'n Eli's Blueberry Soda! Last summer my fiance and I must have had three each in one day, and then we got another the next day for the train ride back to Boston. Two complaints: no restroom and they close after Columbus Day. So when we went back the weekend before Thanksgiving, we were shut out. Not enough to ruin the trip, but it was a let down. (Thankfully Gilbert's didn't close for the season--only the touristy places like Portland Lobster Co. did, and Gilbert's is so much better.)

  • diane l.

Tip: even for the small split it with two flavors. They give really generous servings of ice cream. The consistency of their ice cream was really varied. I ordered a cream based ice cream and it has little bits of icy chunks. It was a little bit of a let down. The people who worked there were really nice and let us try multiple flavors.

Teaberry ice cream. Enough said. If you haven't tried it... you should. It's the only place I've EVER seen that sells it, has chocolate chunks in it too... i get it with hot fudge and whipped cream. Everytime I'm home I have to get it... and everytime I'm not, like right now, I crave it...... like right now. Can get pretty busy during the summer, so be patient.... it's worth it!

I am quickly begining to realize that Portland is just a darn good city for foodies. The ice cream here is just fantastic. Cream, flavorful, and fantastic. Had raspberry sorbet, and Black raspberry ice cream. They both were amazing, but the ice cream was really special. I was full from a huge lobster and steak dinner before, but somehow the fat kid in me finished the two scooper with ease. Love this place. I want to go back asap.

This was another place that came as a must try in Portland. I love ice cream and saved room for dinner for this one. I decided on the heath bar crunch. A small scoop was generously scooped around $3+. The taste was not good! It tasted like freezer burn with the first spoon. I even looked in the case to see if it were the bottom of the bucket to exchange it, but it was mid way. Still I hoped it would get better and left to try to enjoy it. The ice cream barely had any heath bar, but what I didn't like most is that it tasted cheap. Gritty and thin, not creamy or rich. It reminded me of grocery store brand ice cream. That aside, service was friendly and the shop was cute. My sweet tooth has definitely had better!

Apple Crisp! Pumpki Pie! Heath Bar! So good! So creamy! So cheap! Three scoops for $4.76 or so. This place is true baller status and I can see Beal's standing it's own in NYC. The flavors are not too sweet and you can really taste the apples, the pumpkin and the Heath bar in each scoop. Homemade is apt and I'm not sure what else can really compare to this little gem. I wish I could take it back to New York with me.

Turkey Hill ice cream from the grocery store is much better. Price for a scoop $3.25. Price of Turkey Hill, $3.50 for almost 1/2 gallon.

One scoop here is huge! It was the perfect afternoon snack. I tried the Almond Butter Crunch which was super creamy and had the perfect amount of crunch to offset it.

So good I wanted to come back.... but didn't on my recent trip I know New York have been invaded by gelato shops the last few years, but Beals is one place that proves that you don't need the intense flavor of gelato to make a very good treat. On the day of my visit, there are about 15 flavors available. While my friends got the coffee flavored ice cream, I went with the caramel cream ripple since I do like caramel. For a small sugar cone, they do give you an ample portion. Maybe the cone is just small, but the scoop that they gave me was about 3x the size of the cone. You definitely get your money's worth. As for taste, it is just so creamy w/ nice hints of caramel. Nothing as intense as a caramel gelato, but its refreshing to have a dessert that doesn't require you to drink a bottle of water after you're done (yeah, that's how heavy gelato is for you folks that never had it). It was nice to eat at one of the many seats in the shop, although there are plenty more standing room than seats as this place does get really crowded at times. And although I like the cleanliness of ice cream in a cup, it was just so much more satisfying to eat it on a cone. Beals sugar cones are excellent, nice and crunchy and I really want to get another one after the last bite. Too bad I didn't... as I thought I would come back before leaving Maine. But nope, having too much lobsters on my itinerary dashed that idea. But I will definitely come back the next time I'm in Portland. Decor: 3 out of 5 Service: 3 out of 5 Food: 4 out of 5 Value: 4 out of 5

I had never been to Portland before, and on my way back from a weekend trip with friends in Freeport, we decided to go exploring. I fonly I had known what a great place it is! Let's just say there will be more visits to come. What's one of my weaknesses? Ice Cream. Of course everytime I go to an ice cream place I look for the most creative flavors and try to stear away from my typical favs: mint choc chip or cookies & cream. But of course I see that chocolate peanut butter is a flavor for their yogurt. I feel that lately I have been choosing the yogurt over ice cream because it is more "healthy". So that is what I did. Amazing? Check! I probobly talked about how good it was for the rest of the day if not week. As you can see I am still talking about it. The yogurt was chocolate with the sheets of peanut butter, like Hagaan Daz style but more amazing. It also had chocolate chips in it. Call me crazy but I think I'd drive to Portland just to have a scoop of this delightful treat.

It is a winner. Hanging out in Portland one day after hauling in the day's lobster catch. Checking out both the old and new parts of the city. The eye-catching storefront drew us in. We might've just eaten bagels for breakfast, but nothing wrong with a nice creamy scoop or two of ice cream before noon. For those who are unfamiliar, this area is known for its blueberries, it is a major crop for the locals. The inside of the shop is clean and bright, with a friendly and cute decor. The scoop-masters that day were two girls who were also very friendly and gave free samples to curious patrons. Since blueberry is number one in this town, choosing a flavor was done with pure conviction. Opted for an ice cream soda instead of just a measly cup or cone. Luscious blueberry ice cream floating in a tall paper cup filled with Sprite is a great way to enjoy sweets. The blueberry flavor in the ice cream was very pronounced and the ice cream itself was quite creamy, but not too rich. the color was an appetizing shade of light lavender. Even mixed with the Sprite, it did not taste overwhelmingly sweet. It was big enough for more than one person. Slightly messy because it oozed down the sides of the cup, but that is how good ice cream sodas should be. The price was comparable to the chain ice cream shops. This was a very pleasant experience. Check it out if you're in town.

This is obviously a much larger operation than MDI ice cream or Maples, and I was not really impressed. On the good side, the location is great, right near the waterfront. Also, the selection of flavors was great with lots of seasonal and lots of variety. On the not as good side, everything I tried was really sweet and airy. I generally like gelato or ice cream with less air whipped in, but once the cream gets so sweet, nothing can save it as it becomes really difficult to taste the actual flavor. 3 stars, mostly for variety...

CASH ONLY! The ice cream here was tasty and the staff was extremely friendly. I of course had no cash and had to run to Gritty's around the corner for their ATM, but they let my girlfriend sit down and eat her cone of Coconut Almond Bar and hold my cone of Maple Walnut until I got back. Once I did, I chowed down on some tasty ice cream.

A HEAPING scoop each of raspberry sorbet and lemon sorbet. Under $4. How much better can it get?

I've been there 3 times in 2 nights. The funny thing is I actually didn't get anything. I don't eat ice cream. But everyone in my life sure does. Big ice cream eaters that are very particular. Mint Chocolate Chip with Rainbow sprinkles. Blueberry in a sugar cone won over a childhood parlor in southern Maine. I did play pretend. I would have gotten grasshopper, m&m, and mint chocolate chip. Yes I like mixing flavors just like my cereal.

Not impressed. First of all, our ice cream was kind of blah. I had a cone of the chocolate doughboy, which I was soooo excited about (cookie dough with a chocolate base? yes please!), but ended up throwing out half the cone (unheard of) because the chocolate ice cream was really bland, not rich or creamy at all, and not really worth the calories, I decided. My ice cream eating buddies weren't super impressed by their cones either, and two of the three of us tossed them out without finishing them. Also, the employees were awful! We asked the ingredients of one type of ice cream, and she stared at us blankly as was like, "I have no idea." So we waited for a while as she asked other employees and finally we found someone who could tell us it contained toffee, fudge, with a vanilla base. How hard was that? Then went I went to ring up, I cracked a couple jokes, and the girls seemed annoyed by it rather than amused. LAME. Can we have a little fun in this joint or is it all serious teeny bopper all the time? Hmmm.. We wished we'd gone to Cold Stone. Won't be back. :-(

As you can see from the other reviews... this place is a winner, no one likes a loser.... so come to this place and the quality of your life will get better, you'll get that promotion at that job, or get that girl/guy you've always had you're eye on... yes your life will turn around if you eat this ice cream. Don't believe me? try it out, I had the Black Raspberry, Coconut Almond, and the Grasshopper. My life is better. You make me better Beals.

It's annoying that you'll sell my 5 year old ice cream but not have a public restroom to clean his hands and wash his face. What I was told was, there was one he could use in the parking garage up the street. I'll get ice cream somewhere else.

This is a popular ice cream spot on Wharf St in Portland's Old Port serving Beal's Maine-made gourmet ice cream. To be honest, I don't scream for ice cream, and usually don't eat it unless it's a novelty such as which you would buy from a truck that plays "Pop Goes the Weasel." Like a Ninja Turtles with gum eyeballs! Like I said, it's popular, so sometimes there is a line of people wearing "Life is Good" shirts in front of you, sweaters draped lovingly, mouths slackened numbingly. The servers let you try as many flavors as you want, but I just tried Teaberry, (which tasted like licking a wet stick of Winterfresh) and got one scoop of Vanilla Cookiedough. The dough was bite-size and evenly distributed, which I appreciate, because I took the miniature spoon they gave me for the testing and picked all of it out. It cost $2.85 for one large scoop, but I don't know if that's bad or good because I never buy ice cream. It tasted like it was worth that much. Not much else to say other than CASH ONLY, it's kind of chilly inside (duh) and they have a messed up layout. Be careful not to knock your silly ass unconscious walking in the door because they have a big time "Step Down" situation going on.

After I got over the chill in the air in Portland, I realized that I could really go for some ice cream. Luckily, we stumbled across Beal's, and they really delivered. I opted for a raspberry swril type (the exact name escapes me) and got it in a waffle cone. The scoop size was huge (even though I just ordered a single), and it was delicious and filling. And luckily, it didn't make me feel any colder than I already was! However, I could do without the pretentious "I'm cooler than you" attitude of the girls behind the counter. But oh well. What can you do?

  • Christine K.

Very good old fashioned ice cream - smooth, creamy, and not too sweet. Very unique flavors. I got the chocolate raspberry truffle and the coffee oreo in a "one scoop" cup (the girl in front of us got 2 flavors for a "one scoop" so we did it too, and got away with it). Both were delicious. The CRT tasted exactly like what it was named, and the coffee oreo was just like cookies n' cream - with coffee flavor. Definitely agree with it being freezing in the store; it was the same temperature outside (32* F)!

You can't go wrong with cookies and cream ice cream, yummy! It was cold in here, so if you go in the off season, dress warm, I was freezing. But, it wasn't crowded and everything is reasonably priced.

Good, wholesome and creamy ice cream with absurdly large portions.

I had three different flavors cause I couldn't make up my mind and it was good but nothing special. The maine maple tasted really good but not like maple and so did the salted caramel. There's not a lot that you can mess up with cookies'n'cream. It's a nice stop but if I'm on vacation in Portland I'd prefer different places.

My single scoop of coffee heath bar ice cream was creamy and had decent flavor (though a tad sugary) but didn''t really stand out compared to the other frozen treats I've had lately. I don't think I got more than three slivers of heath in the enormous scoop! Still, it was refreshing to see that Beal's had so many fabulous classics - I really wish I tried the chocolate raspberry after reading some of these reviews. Beal's is cash only, so hit that ATM before you stop by!

I got some chocolate flavor and banana cream in a cone. The chocolate was basic, the banana one didn't taste anything like banana, and the cone was stale. The worst part was that the whole serving was HUGE. I couldn't finish it (not did I want to). A lot of a bad thing is never the way to go.

Just delicious! Had the back rasp choco chip froyo. Definitely THE best I've had. One scoop in a sugar cone for $4 was really 2 scoops! Definitely will be back bc they had so many flavors (next to try Oreo or coffee pb!)

Meh, I've had better. Even the standard ice creams (cookie dough, cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip) were pretty mediocre. Try Captain Sam's instead

Oh, so good. It's almost impossible to walk around in the Old Port -- no matter what the season is -- and not think about Beal's! Grab a cone and walk around Wharf Street, Commercial Street, Exchange...
