Eating in a small college town is risky. The clientele has no money (and some would say little taste), the competition is little or nothing. And Maine is one of the most diversity-challenged states in the country, so there is always the question as to whether there really aren't white people in the kitchen doing all the cooking. Not so here. The cook/owner is the real thing, and the food is the real thing, And not being in Boston means more reasonable prices. Only one visit, but everything I tried was quite good, very fresh tasting (another concern out in the sticks), and very authentic. Atmosphere is a bit better than storefront, but that's better than paying money fror faux-Siamese Palace decor. Service was fine.

They've got the worst service ever. I would NOT go back to this place again!! I warn you this restaurant charges you everything even small favor you ask them to bring, even ice tea refill without informing you. They carged me $7.50 for my ice tea. I had a free refill last time. So I knew their ice tea is refillable. But this time they carged me the refills. I had to pay $20 for my lunch. The waitress rude. She said I should talk to her boss. But the boss never showed up because he was "having lunch" in another room. No one explained why I could have a free refill last time but why I had to pay for my refills this time. They were all rude. Their foods are expensive for the sizes. They even charge one of my friends for little more bean sprouts for her noddles. There are good thai reataurants besides this one. I would never use this restaurant again!!!

Didn't know what to expect at a Thai place in Orono but this place did not disappoint. I went with a small group, everyone loved what they had. Curries were good, spring roll appetizers were great. The fried noodles were interesting and delicious, drunken noodles were good and spicy. Even the Thai iced tea was great. I will stop here again any time I'm stopping through town.

Not the best I've had, sister and I got the pad thai and drunken noodle and could hardly tell the difference between the two. Leftovers did taste better when reheated however

For a eat-in Thai place, this is the place! Great atmosphere, amazing food! The peanut sauce is amazing! A bit more expensive than some other options, but worth it. I love the curry, and they have the most amazing summer roll appetizer. Wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. Never been disappointed by this place.

When I'm in the area, I'll go back to Thai Orchid. Mostly based on my pad thai experience alone. The service was pretty lack luster when I was there, but I think it was an off day. I'll agree- there was little to NO spice in my pad thai and actually never got asked what level of spice I wanted when I ordered. I'll give it another shot at some point, but mostly because I'm a viciously loyal Thai food consumer.

Incredibly authentic. I have eaten here more times than I can remember and have never left disappointed, which says a lot because I have high standards for asian food. There is so much interesting food to choose from and a person who has grown up eating this food in another country is likely to say it's spot on. The seafood dishes are great, including the best Pad Thai in the area. It's that nice sweet and nutty flavor and it's just right, it really hits the spot. However if I could recommend one thing, it would be the ginger crispy duck. It's not the cheapest thing on the menu, but the old saying rings true with Thai Orchid- You always get what you pay for. I saw last time I was in that they have Pho on the menu, which is vietnamese and not strictly Thai, so I'm very interested in trying their version of it because it may be hands down my favorite and arguably the best asian dish.

I LOVE this place! I ate here all through college and now that I am back I come often or order take out. I always get the same things: crab rangoons- so light and not greasy and they have come curry in them. You can also really taste the crab meat and not just all cheese. Shrimp/Veggie Pad Thai- great sauce, you can order it spicy or not, and the tofu in it is nicely fried. Ginger Whole Fish- mmmm. only bad thing is that the onions are HUGE. please make them smaller, we already have ginger breath no need to mix chunks of onion in with it. They do not do deliver and it is hardly ever busy to eat in. The decor is unique and the servers are friendly. Great place to eat or get take out from.

Above average thai food for the area. I am a regular customer there. My favorite thai place in the greater Bangor area.

I love eating here. I am always impressed with the freshness of the food, especially the vegetables. There are a lot of vegetarian options, plus standards like Pad Thai, and even Chinese dishes. So if you're taking a group of people with different tastes out to eat in Orono, it's a good choice. I also recommend the mixed drinks... they definitely don't skimp on the alcohol!

Great food, very nice dumplings to start. Had the Panang Curry with beef as an entree (Thai Spicy). The beef and vegetables in the curry were fresh and excellent quality. Could have used just a bit more spice, but thats to be expected. Would recommend. Will eat again.

First time having Thai. Had drunken noodles. I really liked this place,we had a party of about 15 and they didn't mind. We even stayed past their closing time by an hour and didn't know. Oops. They didn't seem to mind that either.

This was a great find. We go out with another couple once a month and we like to try different restaurants. Once we found this place it became our monthly outing. The food is excellent as is the service. It a a quaint and welcome little place with great character. We plan to eat here tonight four our 16th wedding anniversary with another precious couple.

I lived in Orono for years and never tried Thai Orchid until two days before I moved away for good. Probably my only regret from my college years! The food at Thai Orchid is awesome. No two ways about it, it is delicious. The only downside is it lacked the famous kick of Thai food; it was not spicy at all. That's the only reason I rated it down to 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, they pack a lot of great Thai flavor into their food. The service is efficient and friendly, and the dining room is cozy. Best of all, the prices are really reasonable. I expected it to be much more expensive than it was. I wish I could go back to Maine just to try them again!

I was very pleased with my meals here. When in Bangor/Orono, I shall return. I agree with Jason M that the waitress (who is quite cute for a lady in her 40's) assumes that white people can't handle spice. That's why I told her to serve me my meal with 14 stars on the "Native Thai" scale. My nose didn't even run!! I guess I'll bring my own spice next time. I thought their crispy pad thai was worth an honorable mention. Their panang was fresh and the prices are reasonable. The decor is pleasant and cozy. It's not the best Thai in Maine but hell, it's Orono...this is as good as it gets.

Thai Orchid has good food at a great price. The service is rapid and attentive. The only drawback is that, being based in Maine, they assume that no white person can order five-start pad-thai and know what they are getting, so it becomes difficult to order food spicy enough to bring on that endorphin trip. Every time I go back home to Maine, I try to make a trip here.

Awesome Thai food. We order the Country Style curry and we like it spicy. The spring rolls are also delicious. YUM!!

Really good Thai food. If you are vegan or vegetarian you can eat here without a problem.
