I stopped here for breakfast one day on my way north and had the blueberry pancakes. They were good, not great. Don't go out of your way to try them.

The food is OK in my opinion but where they really get my four stars is with their desserts. I have never seen anyone make desserts so BIG. They have peanut butter cups the size of a coffee mug, carrot cake nearly 12 inches tall and many more pastry, dessert and sweet type items that are nearly 4-10 times larger than their regular size. They also have one of the largest sundaes as well. Check them out the next time you are on Lisbon Street in Lewiston.

I had dinner there a few days ago and it was excellent, as good as I've had. I ordered a plate of fried clams and the quality was good, and the quantity was good too, I could not finish them, I had to take home the leftovers. The desserts looked very good but I didn't order one, I had no room left to eat a dessert. The only thing lacking on the menu, was no clam chowder.

Staff not friendly, horribly over priced. 3.49 for a side of bacon and sausage, no gluten free bread and not a whole lot of options for food. The floor is dirty, there is almost no customers in here. No breakfast specials. Not a fan. I also must note that last time I was here they listed Maine maple syrup as an option but only had Vermont syrup. Not sure if that's changed.

My childhood was this restaurant. Always came here with my grandparents I used to love it but it's kind of down hill a little. Could use some cosmetic updates but the food is delicious and I absolutely love the breakfast buffet on the weekends. I love the fish tank and train that travels around the restaurant. Family friendly atmosphere a good place to pick up a simple Maine dinner.

I will preface this review by saying that I did NOT try any of their desserts, which looked amazing. We went for breakfast and I really couldn't justify the pie or cake. The breakfast was below average - no option to get real maple syrup with breakfast. This is Maine, not Nebraska, so this irked us a lot (being from Vermont). Mainers know what real maple syrup is. We would have paid an extra buck or two for it. The side of potatoes that came with my omelette was really fake in both appearance and taste, they were cubes with some spicy outer coating, they were gross. I can only say that I was hoping for something better than the buffet at our Ramada down the street, but it was disappointing. Now if I had splurged for a slice of pie, it may be a different review - they looked great, not sure why they can't bring the menu up to those standards.

The food was pretty delicious but the service was atrocious! I don't know where to begin. A waitress dropped a plate and SCEEAMED "shit!" loud enough that the entire restaurant turned their heads, kids and all. My server brought me the large order of mozz sticks even though I specified small, and I had to talk to the manager to get the price reduced. I counted the times he walked by my empty glass at the edge of the table, and when it got to 10 I finally broke down and asked for a refill. The person that brought my Burger out, 45 minutes after I ordered it, just plopped it on the table and immediately walked away. No ketchup for the fries, and no apology for the delay. Their dessert menu looked delicious but unfortunately I did not have time to order anything, and could not take anything to go. Overall I was very, very unimpressed. The quality of the food far exceeded the quality of service, but that will not be enough to keep this place alive for much longer.

I haven't had a full meal at Governor's, but I have sampled from their dessert case. Tops: Eclair. Might not be especially Parisian, but we're not in Paris, are we? Good creamy pudding filling, thick (both in texture in dimensions) chocolate frosting on top. Middling: Gingerbread. They suggested eating it warm, with whipped cream; we went for the warm but skipped the whipped. It was OK, but not especially moist, not especially spiced, and not especially memorable. Certainly a better dessert spread than Gritty's; not without its lackluster pitfalls, though.

Bad place just like anywhere in Lewiston Maine . It's horrible or maybe I'm from west Hollywood California and use to upscale places and high services . But no the place was horrible waitress was nice and quick the food was ok but the inside of the restaurant was horrible and smells like old motels in watts CA from 90's like crack and marijuana .

After reading the fine reviews, I came with an empty stomach and high expectations. I left a little fuller, but not happy. The service was fine. The dining room is an old-school joint with an O gauge train running around the ceiling. It was fun. The place loses three stars on the food. This is "homemade" food only if home was Joliet prison or your mother was being sought out by the International Court for crimes against humanity. The specialty is the meatloaf, this coarse-ground meat that tastes like it's stew meat or pretty close, so it has a toughness that meatloaf should never have. The gravy had nice flavor, but "smothered" was more dripped, and the meatloaf only had flavor if you had a frontal lobotomy recently and can't tell the difference. The turkey was off the bone but also was tough, overcooked, and lacking in flavor. Desserts were more of a hit. Their pies are good. The strawberry-rhubarb in particular was worthwhile. Service was quite good too. The drag was that the owner/chef seems to think my jaw muscles need a workout. If he sold it as exer-food, then I get it, and I'd pass. Otherwise, buy some better meat, and put some pop back into the food. This place could easily be 5 star if someone cared more about what they put on a plate.

I had breakfast there twice while staying in Lewiston. I chose it mostly because it opens early and it fit my schedule. Food and service were both good. The model train that circles the room was interesting. I probably would have given five stars except that they play a country music radio station, which drives me crazy. I saw the dessert cases while walking in - wish that I could have come back at a later time to try those.

A great place to bring the family for homemade food. Old favorites like Liver and Onions, meatloaf, burgers and of course seafood. Home made desserts include Strawberry Shortcake, Gingerbread, Apple Fritter and more. Good size dining room with a moving train chugging along, a fish tank, and friendly service. We got the fried seafood platter with two sides. The kids got the mac and cheese with fries. The scallops were tender, clams were good, one large piece of haddock, Maine baby shrimp all served with crinkle fries. I am not a fan of the fries but the all the rest was good.

The Haddock chowder and meatloaf mountain are both awesome. Cant wait to go back and try the awesome selection of deserts.

I resisted this place for so long because I'm not a chocolate peanut butter cake fan. But this place changed my mind. I have never eaten at the place but I have picked up a piece of cake anytime I drove by- which was enough times since its on the way to the freeway entrance. I also had anyone going by there pick up a piece. I hope the food is just as good but the cake rocked!

In the town of Lewiston, in on-line research and driving around, I didn't see many decent dinning options that weren't expensive but also not fast food. Governors was one of them. A family type restaurant with good food, reasonably priced with friendly service. Had dinner and breakfast there once. Both were very good. Free Wi-fi was a nice touch. They have a bakery there to. Did not sample the baked goods but they looked tasty. If your up that way, I highly recommend.
