Such a cute little spot. Food is great! People are friendly. Loved the curry chicken salad sandwich.

All you need to know is this: Their carrot dill hummus is the work of Gods. SERIOUSLY ADDICTING! Best hummus ever. I am so sad I only bought one container, I might seriously drive back up there this week from Boston just to buy all their hummus. We went here for the first time this weekend while we were staying in Maine. It was recommended to us from the hotel. It's very crowded because it's popular so that's a good sign but you do have to wait a bit to order. Parking can also be difficult so be patient. They have fair trade coffee which is great. They had a vegan soup that day so I got that and it was yummy (kale veggie). I also got a soy cappuccino. My boyfriend got a hot tea and little muffin. I was bummed to see they didn't offer any vegan pastries except some bread but no sweet things like muffins, cookies, or cakes. They had gluten free options but vegans need love too. The reason for the lack of a star is because the woman waiting on us was not friendly at all and very annoyed. Obviously she wasn't having a good day or just hating her job and unfortunately we got her as our service. I expect better from a local bakery like this - have your staff be pleasant and friendly to their customers. After she rang us up I realized I forgot to order the muffin and I was actually scared of telling her that because I wasn't sure how she would react. We came back the next day because I wanted to get sandwiches to go since we were in there earlier the day before and not at lunch time. I got the tofu sandwich on the board which is like a banh me. It was very good. The slaw doesn't have mayo so vegans are safe. My boyfriend got the chicken pesto and liked it. I also got a tub of that amazing dill carrot hummus, a tub of tofu salad, and an ice coffee to go. Next time I am in the area I will certainly be back, but for the love of good please have someone start carrying that hummus in Boston - I don't think I can live a day without it!

Came here for a quick lunch after shopping at the Kittery outlets, which is a quick 5 min drive . Cute spot to get lunch with a friend. I got the roasted veggie and goat cheese sandwich. The bread was very fresh and tasted great with the vegetables. Only downside was that they used too much oil in the sandwich (which you can kind of tell in my picture). They sell a nice variety of fresh baked goods, fresh bread and coffee too. Decided to buy a to-go container of their homemade granola to try on my morning yogurt. Looking forward to trying it out!

Go here for their sandwiches! They are amazing, artisanal, organic and my favorite among all of the seacoast area (portsmouth, kittery, york). I literally crave them! But, their sweets (cakes, etc) don't live up to the quality of their sandwiches. I have never liked ANYTHING from the bakery there and my friends feel the same way. They should stick to sandwiches. Great lunch spot!

My family was driving through the area and needed to stop to breakfast. What a find! The Beach Pea was a great breakfast. The ham and egg wraps were hearty and tasty. The homemade granola was crunchy and full of dry fruit. Croissants were appropriately flaky and flavorful. Cute porch out front and a decent amount of seating. Would definitely recommend this place for a quick bite or to linger on a lazy weekend morning.

This is a truly AWESOME bakery. Especially recommend the breads which are first class.

Moved to this area about a year ago. Yea, the line to order/pay is a bit confusing and needs to be changed, but they do bread well here. I mean VERY well...better than any bakery in the San Francisco Bay Area!

The baguettes are the best around because they are just like French baguettes and crisp. They are not the wonder bread grocery store type. The other breads are good, too. The cakes are pricy. If you ask and you are there at 10 minutes before closing sometimes they offer two for the price of one or a similar deal, but this is entirely unpredictable and at the whim of the cashier.

Great place near Kittery for a quick lunch. Food was amazing and service was very quick. Even though the place was crowded, the staff was very attentive and took your order right away. Seating was very limited inside and even on their patio, but they do have picnic tables in the front near the road and a few behind the restaurant. We will return next time we are in the area!

Excellent sandwich shop/bakery.. I go here for lunch a few times a month. Bread is baked fresh every day, and I love that you have the option to build your own sandwich. This place gets BUSY during lunch hours and calling ahead isn't always an option (you can't always get through if someone is on the other line) but if you aren't in a rush and can handle a little bit of a wait, its totally worth it!

Okay, time for an update! This place has delicious food which is the bottom line but the last several times we've been here the customer service has gone way down hill the worst of which being this last encounter. I went in with my family on Wednesday afternoon (11:30-ish) to order some take-out sandwiches. The wait time was crazy long...whatever, no big deal-it's worth the wait. The person finally handed me a bag with our sandwiches and we were on our way. We got to our picnic destination 15 minutes later and open the bag to find that 2 of the 3 sandwiches were wrong. Not like toppings wrong but whole sandwiches wrong. Okay, mistakes happen and perhaps my order got switched with someone else's. Frustrating and inconvenient? Yes! End of the world? No. I left the family and drove back there to sort it out. I stood at the counter for no joke 5 minutes while I was ignored. The phone rings, and the woman answered it, took an order, hung up, changed the register tape, wrote some stuff down, THEN looked up and said "How can I help you?". SERIOUSLY? At this point I'm getting annoyed knowing my family is hungry and waiting 15 minutes away. Usually the customer standing in front of you (for a while) gets attention before a phone order. Finally I explain what happened and a woman from across the counter yells out "That order got switched her sandwiches are in the refrigerator". They go get mine and hand them to me then just stare..... "Okay, so I'm all set then?" I say. "Yup." they replied. I walked out so super angry. I wasn't looking for anything in return other than a "sorry about that" but they didn't even have the decency to apologize and acted like I was inconveniencing them!?! I was in the car for an extra 30 minutes (both ways) to get the sandwiches to my family for their mistake. This place makes great food but because they are always busy I get the feeling that they don't care about actually providing good service anymore.

I find myself missing this place when I'm not in town. It's like a slice of vintage Europa culture. Exquisitely fresh breads baked daily, awesome lunch menu, live atmosphere. The kind of place that would rival a boulangerie in Paris - and that can be said but for a handful of bakeries in America.

  • Betty J.

Excellent food, the fougasse is amazing! I gave the rating of a three because every time I try to call to put in an order, no one answers the phone. I understand this is a busy establishment but you guys really need to pick up the phone because you are losing business. In any place I have ever worked at, phone orders are still just as important and you politely ask the people at the counter to wait just one minute and they will understand.

Parking was a bit rough but overall the experience was good. The atmosphere was pleasing and the staff was friendly. I had the black forest ham sandwich (#4) and thought it was delicious. My girlfriend went with the turkey sandwich (#2) and a cobb salad. Ultimately she ended up eating part of my sandwich as she wasn't as impressed with hers. If I was alone or my company shared the same opinion of her food, I would have rated Beach Pea 5-stars.

Fast, courteous and friendly service. I really like the fact that the Beach Pea recycles everything. The sandwiches, breads and baked goods that I have eaten here are of high quality and ultimate deliciousness. It is evident that the owner has high standards and it is a pleasure to eat here.

The Beach Pea is great for baked good and lunch sandwiches, but when it comes to their soup I can't believe how bad they are. Today their corn chowder was AWFUL and such a disappointment. Their sousp in general are watery with chunks of vegetables and today, beyond bland! This was the worst corn chowder I have ever had. I say, stick to sandwiches and baked goods.

This place was a random find on a recent drive back from Bar Harbor to Vermont. It was recommended to us by a woman at the Kittery Trading Post when we inquired that we were looking for a salad / lighter fare. After a week of poor eating choices we were SO glad to have discovered it! We got there about a 1/2 an hour after the kitchen closed so we just grabbed a number of items from the fridge - a sandwich with turkey and pesto and a salad with apples, feta, chicken and pecans. They even gave us a free loaf of bread as they were closing. I was quite impressed that even though they were closing up, they still took the orders of folks coming in the door. Really friendly staff, we both commented that we'd definitely return if we were ever in the area again!

Talk about unique bakery! this place has intreatuing things like "lavendar lemon shortbread cookies" and all manner of organic ingredients for sandwiches. They believe in fair-trade products and everything is fresh, fresh fresh! I ordered a custom cake from there for my parents' surprise 60th bday party and they couldn't have been more accommodating. I was super busy with work, and was able to coordinate the whole thing via email with the bakery team and everything went so smoothly. The cake was DELICIOUS - i highly recommend the tuxedo cake. :)

Consistently delicious. Very well run establishment. A go-to spot for desserts & breads. Tried a sandwich one time..a bit cheap with the protein, but quality ingredients. The counter staff is mostly friendly, but tipping helps.

Our B&B highly recommended we stop here. The baked goods looked delicious! Only tried the mint and lavender shortbread cookie. Tasted like flour and sugar. Not even a hint of lavender, mint or shortbread! The iced coffee was pretty good though and I would rate it as a nice area to sit inside or outside. Just wouldn't recommend those shortbread cookies!

  • Brynn S.

Yelp led me to this place when I was on the road and I couldn't be more thankful! The high quality of the sandwiches can't be overstated. The bread is exceptional; the proportions are perfect. The staff is great. If you're near Kittery, don't miss the opportunity to dine here. It's easily worth the short drive from the outlets. I wish we had a place like this in Boston.

Stopped in for some treats to go. When I got to a place like this, I have to try everything. No plain croissants today. Had 1/2 ham and cheese, half of a spinach, and 1/2 of the raspberry when I got home. All were yummy although the ham and cheese was a bit salty and there was nothing special about the ham - something off of a slicer at the local deli. Kudos for the eclairs and tiramisu puffs - both creamy but not overly sweet. This was all takeout but at 1:00 pm the parking lot was packed.

Nice organic food and prepared sandwiches but they didn't have me yelling in ecstasy - couple that with coffee that wasn't strong enough but was fair trade and no place to sit on Saturday morning and I'd give it 3.5 stars. Good place for carry out I think

Huge props to beach pea, it's always very busy when I come here but I'm served quickly and the quality is excellent. Try any sandwich you won't be disappointed! Also the sandwiches are generous so I recommend the 1/2 sandwich and soup option.

I love this place! I strategically schedule driving through Kittery at luchtime, so that I can get a sandwich and a cookie. I really love the Ham sandwich, with apple, cheddar and poached red onions.

  • Corrie K.

I went to the beach pea at 5:01 pm and was told they don't take any orders after 5:00 pm . I'm here on vacation and wanted to try there chicken salad sandwich. I think if you are open until 6:00 pm you should still be able to make sandwiches. I will tell everyone I know not to try this place. In fact we are here with 50 family members for a 90th birthday party. I'll make sure none of us come to your place.

Amazing food. Amazing bread deadly-amazing pastries. Service is fast and its a great place for brunch or lunch. I had the best Cob salad I have ever had there. Everything is fresh and made to order. We started going there in June and we have been back 6 times since. If you live in the area, or are just passing through I highly recommend that you give the Beach Pea Baking Co a try.

I can't even begin to describe how much I love this place. It's a given, get the fougasse. I also really love the garlic boule (especially toasted). The ham and apple sandwich is to die for and all the salads are really terrific. And the raspberry iced brownies are to die for. It gets pretty busy on the weekends though (understandably), so if you can swing by on a week day/early that'll probably be your best bet.

We used Beach Pea for our wedding cake in June 2011 and again in 2012 for our 1st anniversary. We will use them again for the next anniversary when we can go back to Maine. We planned our wedding from an Atlantic Seaboard state and they were easy to work with and schedule the tasting with. They were super honest about the cake exterior finishing based on what we didn't want, like fondant. And they kept in communication, were good communicating with me over phone and email, and really accommodating on the different flavors we wanted for each of our 2 tiers. We found there pricing very good. For 1 tier we did an almond cake base for one tier and lemon for the another. One cake base had their famous pastry cream filling, the other coconut cream. I can't remember the frostings, but flavors that you might not think would go together were pleasantly amazing. During our anniversary visit we also stopped in to meet with our wedding efficient. The baked goodies we had for late breakfast were great. The only specific one I can remember were their scrumptious croissants, which I've had while living in London and on trips to Italy and France. Pros: See above Cons: I had no less than a five star experience based on all my experience and product tastings and eatings.

Beach Pea is a cute little bakery/sandwich shop-- perfect if you need a quick(ish) lunch but want to avoid fast food. Our sandwiches and salads were all very fresh (and the portions were large), and the outdoor picnic table seating was nice on a warm day.

So today to get away from market square day we decided to go or a bike ride this was our final stop on a nice coastal ride. They had a nice place we could lock up our bikes and even a water bowl for our four legged friend had we brought her. The place is tucked just back off a some what busy road, but it's still some what hidden. They have lots of out door seating as well as in door seating and aside form a small line to stand in to place your order I have no complaints. You pick your seat no reservations here first come first serve. Now for the food I had a splendid chicken sandwich with a mint ice tea and my wife had a ham sandwich the actually give you two on each plate. I had trouble finishing mine so I brought the rest home with me. It was so tasty on there home made bread, the desert and boy was there a lot of them they make anything from cookies bread cheese cake and brownies. We got some lime cheese cake and a cup cake both were so tasty and delicious very rich. The whole place was great had a fantastic experience there and they bring your food out to you when it is done, got to love that. I will e going back here in the near future and bringing friends!!!!

I got a GF for my Birthday so I decided to use it today. Plus it is located down the street from my BF's house and always wanted to go in. Aside from having cakes and pastries they also have sandwiches. I got a turkey, avocado, red onion and chipotle mayo on ciabatta bread. Tastes fresh but the ciabatta bread is so bulky it's hard to take a bite. Also looks like there's not much between the 2 slices of bricks. I think I might be better off cutting it up in small pieces and eating my sandwich like a salad. There's a beam that says" line starts here". But you also have people standing by the baked goods so I was unsure exactly where the line started and who was next. I wish they had a better tea selection. There are 2 kinds of tea. Not everyone drinks coffee.....yes I know a majority of the population drinks coffee. But what about the rest of us? It's like shopping for shoes. There's plenty of options for tiny short people but nothing for those of us who are tall and don't want to wear 10 inch heels. Where's the love for us giants?......Point is I wish they had more tea selections. Fruity, green tea, something other than boring black tea and whatever else they said. My friend brought me a muffin from here one time, it was dry and stale.....just an FYI, food has a certain shelf life. It may still look yummy but its not. Staff was friendly.

I absolutely love this bakery! From their sandwiches to their cookies, everything is super fresh and delicious. I also love that they are focused on locally grown produce, support local events, and believe in Eco friendly products- they even have composting at their store! Seriously awesome, a stellar business!

Great little place just off the highway. The pastries are awesome and the quality of all the foods, breads and coffee are very high. The layout of the ordering area is a little cramped and confusing, making the ordering process a headache.

THE BEST place to stop for food to take to the beach! Tofu panini is my favorite, all the salads are exceptional, and the desserts...so many of them have lemon! Love it.

Still love this place a year later. Best Iced Mocha around and delicious muffins and scones. Very different bakery items which I like and mostly organic ingredients. Staff is so nice even when it is super busy. The don't skimp on good ingredients.

This place inconsistent. Some baked goods are exemplary but others are a huge let down. The big cookies are mediocre at best. The same goes for their muffins and greasy, soggy croissants. Most of the sweets and breads are great like the lemon bar and rosemary batard, but stay away from the dry brownies. Their cakes are always a delight but virtually impossible to order. They only make a very few cakes and their website very clearly states any custom orders or changes are strictly forbidden. I tried to order a birthday cake and was told I could not get the one I requested (four days in advance, well above their requested two day notice).I had one choice if I wanted chocolate cake, as that was 'the only one they were making that day'. All I wanted was a chocolate on chocolate cake and they tried to sell me on a chocolate cake with white chocolate frosting, not what the birthday girl wanted. Their customer service is always sour and this did not help.

Heading up the coast for a last-minute birthday party in Portland, I found this bakery online and was able to order a cake a few hours before we were due to pass through. Over the phone the gal described several delicious-sounding varieties and even offered to write a message on the cake. Sweet! The bakery was quick and easy to get to from the highway -- able to get there right before closing and surprised my sister with a beautiful and delicious cake that evening! Can't wait to go back next time we're in town.

LOVE this place....kinda wish I didn't, because neither my wallet nor my waist loves this place as much as my mouth. It's usually busy with limited seating. For holidays, they don't take pre-orders, so be prepared to stand in line for an hour. Lovely decadent cakes. When I buy a whole one, they write on it for me in pretty chocolate cursive. Baguettes are wonderful. I can inhale nearly a foot in one setting. Salads are fresh and big. I feel like I'm actually eating something when I eat (any) of their salads, not like I'm just chewing on lettuce. My favorite is their roasted veggie. They have the best roasted beets. Cowgirl cookies. Huge, thick cookie with oatmeal, chocolate chunks, walnuts, cranberries, oatmeal. Yes, of course, I'll take one of those too.

  • Don W.

Beach Pea is one of my favorite bakeries anywhere. It's more of a boulangerie than a patisserie (pardon my French), so it's the place to go for breads and sandwiches, and in the morning it's full of people having breakfast and coffee. There's room to sit inside and out, so you're all set regardless of the weather. They do have sweets and people rave about their cookies, but to me their specialty is the amazing loaves of freshly baked bread that make the place smell so good. The only thing to remember, especially if you want bread for a holiday, is to go early. Every local knows about this place and they'll buy up all the good stuff if you take your time.

Had the Roasted Turkey Breast sandwich. It was excellent. The bite of the onion balanced out the more mellow turkey, cheese, and mayo. There was a little bit of a lunch time rush, but my sandwich was ready within five minutes. Looking forward to another visit soon.

Six stars if possible. Their Ciabatta loaves/Ciabattina rolls are beyond extraordinary - there is a reason so many local restaurants use Beach Pea as their bread supplier. Other than Bouchon in Yountville it is consistently the best bakery (certainly in terms of bread) I've been to this side of the Atlantic and it is here in our backyard. Seriously. Not kidding. When the weather is nice you can sit outside, and they have maybe 6 or 8 tables inside. They have pretty decent espresso/capuccino, but their breakfast and lunch sandwiches are really quite good. (I must admit I often buy the Ciabattina rolls, go next door to Golden Harvest and get some fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and a bunch of fresh basil, drizzle with olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar, for a homemade Caprese sandwich.) Another artisinal standout they make is their Fougasse, a traditional Provençal bread that almost looks like a giant odd-shaped pretzel (I believe it is supposed to resemble an ear of wheat) seasoned with rosemary and sea salt. Essentially a French version of Foccacia, it is great for dipping in olive oil. Put one on a cutting board when you entertain guests and watch it vanish. In terms of cakes, we've ordered the following for family celebrations and been delighted with each one: -Triple Chocolate Cake (Dark chocolate ganache between two layers of chocolate cake. Sealed with chocolate buttercream and finished with a poured ganache with a crown of chocolate buttercream leaves) -Tuxedo Cake (Two layers of chocolate cake surrounding a layer of fresh strawberries. Sealed with a white chocolate cream cheese frosting & finished with a ganache drip) -Lime Coconut Cheesecake Hopefully they also start making fresh fruit tarts again, the ones from Hannaford just don't come close. Their eclairs are cream filled decadence - I ran a 50 mile ultramarathon and the joke was I did it just to eat more eclairs. Highly recommended for a sweet treat (they come in small or large.) My personal favorite, however, is their Applesauce Oatie cookie. Just imagine the best oatmeal cookie you've ever tasted - there you go, stacked behind the glass, taunting you. Lines can sometimes be a bit long around 9am ish Sat morning (and especially before a major holiday) but be patient, I implore you - they move quickly and most definitely worth the wait. I almost didn't even want to do this review for the selfish fear of longer lines, but if any Kittery business deserves a big, loud Yelp shout out it's Beach Pea. Not open on Sundays which is a shame, but I suppose perfection deserves a day off.

I am not sure if I'm just not ordering the right items... but today when I stopped in (around 3) the dessert case was nearly empty which was sad. Anyhow, with limited pickings, I chose a pumpkin penuche 'cookie' and a lemon bar. I say 'cookie' because when I think cookie I think crispy on the outside, chewy in the center. The cookie was neither one of those things. Do not get me wrong, the flavor was DELICIOUS, I could really taste the pumpkin, I enjoyed the raisins and walnuts in the cookie and the drizzle of penuche on top complimented all the other flavors. But the texture of the cookie was more cakey borderline muffin which was a let down for me. I wanted chewy, crispy or something that resembled a cookie, since that was the name on the display. Then I took a bite into my lemon bar. I do not know if it is because I bit my lemon bar upside down (short bread on top, lemon curd on the bottom) that I got a strange taste to it? My first thought - it tasted like lard. Yes, I know what lard tastes like, I've used it in baking. Though I doubt they used lard in making the shortbread that is when I first thought of when I tasted it which made me taken aback. But after I took a few more bites I could taste the buttery bottom and the... sour/citrus top. I do not think there was enough lemon flavor to be quite honest. I didn't get that refreshing feeling when I taste lemon when I bit into this lemon bar. I experienced a tart flavor... but not a bright lemony taste I was looking for. Nonetheless, I'll try again. Still haven't tried their breads though, they still look beautiful, beautifully crafted and tempting to want to buy one of each to try. But I am not sure why I have not yet.

Sandwiches are to die for! This is such a great bakery - I want to eventually try everything on the menu. Every dessert we have tried - we just love. Their cakes are so good - if you need to bring something to a party or lunch or dinner stop here - grab a dozen cookies or go for one of their fabulous cakes - seriously you'll be the talk of the gathering. So good. We wish you well Beach Pea!

The best bakery on the seacoast, since Cafe Brioche closed. The croissants and breads are excellent, as good as anything in Europe.

Nice selection of pastries and cakes and sandwiches. The blueberry scone was very moist, usually they are dry and crumbly. The croissants were also very fresh, but a little greasy. Their focus on the environment is good to see. Lots of nice seating indoors and out. The one noticeable defect was the customer service. The girl taking our order was very impatient considering how few people were in there. She rushed us through our order and was rude when we asked to switch an item before she even bagged or rang it up. Disappointing aspect to an otherwise nice place.

We stopped by to get some sandwiches to go on our way to Fort Foster beach last week. My wife ordered a roast beef sandwich, and I got a "build your own" turkey sandwich. When we go to the beach and opened them up we discovered that my wife's sandwich was actually their fresh mozzarella and tomato sandwich. Not that it was bad but it was not what she ordered. It was not very busy so it is puzzling as to how a 2-sandwich ordered could get botched so easily. The other thing I noticed were the tomatoes in both sandwiches. Beach Pea makes a big deal of the fact that they use all-natural ingredients, support local famers etc. These tomatoes were about as flavorless as those phoney tomatoes you have to buy at the grocery store. At best, I suspect they were hyrdoponic. There is a huge difference between a fresh, vine-ripened tomato and those things at Hannaford. For the prices and the all-natural philosophy, I was disappointed. The bread was excellent and the baked goods looked very tasty, though...

The sandwiches here are incredible and although I haven't tried their salads yet, everyone is always ordering them am they look phenomenal. The soups Ive tried have been delicious. One or two times I haven't been crazy about their baked goods but have loved most I've tried. Definitely go here for lunch between 11 and 3 if you want fresh, fresh healthy food that's delicious in a welcoming atmosphere. Update: Been eating the Achiote Chicken salad here for months now.....SUPER GOOD!!! Love this place more every day!

Great morning coffee stop. It was "crowded" for Maine. The line was close to the door (about 5-7 deep). It moved quickly so I was happy. Excellent coffee. Amazing smelling and looking pastries. Fresh and lively atmosphere. Service was decent, but a bit absent-minded (They didn't ask if the fiance would like his ham & cheese croissant heated up...it was cold...and it was a bit too busy seeming for us to disrupt the flow & insist on someone breaking the order just to heat up the croissant...it should've been offered but whatevs..) The future mother-in-law reports that the cakes here are excellent but that you cannot make special orders in advance. if you are ordering for an event, they don't take special orders...They have a sort of "buy what they have that day" kind of policy on buying whole cakes. Pros: Coffee, pastries, quality, lively. Cons: Can be crowded, service (not a true con, but doesn't warrant being on the pros list), pastries seem to be swooped up pretty quickly in the morning. In the past when we'd come out here, we would either make coffee at the house (in York) or drive to Portsmouth to get coffee. Beach Pea now makes it so we can stay a bit closer to York for coffee. I plan to come back in the future and am considering their cakes if we do decide to do an "east coast" wedding celebration.

Great baguettes made fresh. I loved my sandwich as well (turkey avocado). We went back twice within the next 3 weeks. It is awesome.

The best breakfast and lunch spot in the area. If I could, I'd eat here every day! Their salads and sandwiches are fresh and their bakery/desserts are so good. My personal favs include the roasted veggie salad, the achiote chicken salad, the turkey avocado sandwich and the chocolate cake truffles.

Yum! Great brewed coffee and decent, freshly made sandwiches. Their espresso beverages are not too great, however, but that's often hit or miss at a lot of places. Beach Pea is bright and warm, and overrun by the elderly (so you probably won't find a place to sit). Their staff isn't very friendly at all. They look like they're going to be, but they're not. This place is great for when I'm rushing out the door and need coffee and maybe a bite to eat, but it's nothing too special.

Although it is off the beaten path, I definitely go out of my way to make it to Beach Pea when I'm in town. The rosemary cookies are super yummy, and I've had probably 4 or 5 birthday cakes made there, without a complaint. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't comment on the java, but if you're looking a place to catch up with a friend over a delicious lemon square or something more savory, like their ham and cheese croissants, this is the place to go.

The Beach Pea is an excellent natural bakery with a green eco-friendly mission while producing the best pastry and cake on the Atlantic. It is worth the drive up from Boston just to buy a cake. The atmosphere is cozy and clean, Very natural and Maine like, local artwork and a community bulletin board give this place character. They use local products and everything is healthy and does not have a greasy heavy and sugary feeling like most bakery's. Only compliant is their espresso drinks are rather weak and not cheap for the quality. When visiting don't forget to visit and support the great foodie neighbors. CLOSED ON SUNDAYS which is too bad since it such a busy day on the Seacoast!!!!!

If there were six stars available, I would give Mariah and Beach Pea all six. My husband and I had our wedding cake made here, and it was by far the best cake (wedding or otherwise) I have ever purchased. The wedding was 3 weeks ago, and we still have people calling and commenting on how good the cake was! Mariah sat with me and went over all the different details of what a wedding cake entails (much of which I didn't know beforehand), such as shape, sizes, tiers, construction, etc. Mariah also has an extensive portfolio to pour through - she can pretty much do anything you want from quite simple to fancily extravagant! My fiance couldn't make it to the tasting we had set up, at the last minute, so Mariah was sweet enough to send me home a care package, complete with all these little containers filled with the multiple fillings, different flavors of cakes, frostings, etc. From those, we were able to come up with an amazing combination (lemon cake with layers of lemon whip and passion fruit with cream cheese frosting - SO GOOD!). The day of the wedding came and Mariah delievered, set up and decorated the cake with fresh flowers. It looked AND tasted simply amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better cake!!! My only grief was that it cost, per slice, slightly more than your average wedding cake. However, I felt that slight price difference was justified because all the ingredients that are used are unprocessed, organic and highly tasty. Not to mention the typical size of each slice is larger than most . I have my guest's raves to back me up! Thank you, Mariah!!

Beach Pea is awesome and so cute. They have benches outside to sit as well as seating inside. I haven't tried their espresso drinks but the drip coffee is great. I've tried their "Good Morning" bars which are awesome too (great bread with cranberries, walnuts, and apples inside) They sell sandwiches and salads to order and there is definitely a big effort on their part to be sustainable. I also love their cookies and they often have day old ones that you can buy with a discount.

Yesterday we bought ciabatta rolls and blueberry scones at this popular bakery and were very disappointed. The bread was fine but the heavy scones are the WORST -- no flavor at all and dry with gluey blueberries.

I can't write enough goods things about this place...and now they're open on Sundays! I went Sunday morning and could have easily spent my paycheck in there. I tried a mocha latte. It blows away the mocha lattes at Breaking New Grounds in Portsmouth. I also ordered a Ciabatta and it coulden't be sliced because it just came out of the oven!!!! Yowza! The pastries were staring at me and yelling for me to buy them, but alas, I was good. Just the piping hot oven fresh Ciabatta and the delicious mocha latte for me thanks.

A solid four stars, maybe deserving of five stars (meaning you cannot go wrong). Had a turkey sandwich on delicious bread. Turkey did not come from a package--I think they actually cooked the turkey whole and sliced it up. Biscotti was excellent, and the coffee was very good. Service was cheery and excellent. Even though the kitchen had just closed 15 minutes earlier, they were glad to make us a sandwich. Was just passing through, but would be a regular if I lived in Kittery or Portsmouth.

Beach Pea made my wedding cake this past September and I can only rave about it. I had emailed them 2 photos and a description of what I envisioned and they got it dead on!! They followed my requests to a T and even custom made seagrass bands that wrapped around the bottom of each tier. It was visually stunning! The best part was hidden inside because the only thing better than the design was the taste. It was mouthwatering. Mariah was so accommodating throughout the entire process. It turns out there was a miscommunication with my florist and there were no flowers available to decorate the cake. Mariah went table to table and tactfully snuck a small flower from each to pull the cake into the decor. It was PERFECT and the mishap didnt slow her down at all! Highly recommended!

Best bread in the world. My favorite is the ciabattina.. a personal-size ciabatta roll. Other yummy choices are the rosemary batard, fougasse.. aw hell, anything is delicious. Mariah's cakes and desserts are also out of this world. I may be biased by virtue of being family, but this is the BEST BAKERY IN THE WORLD.

Everytime I am on way north from seeing a client in NH I stop by Beach Pea for lunch. I love the lunch. All organic. All healthy. Perfect portions. The salad dressings are homemade. The chix is Bell Evans. Besides the salads, the sandwiches are delightful. The bread is made right there. My favorite is a chix pesto sandwich .

We discovered the Beach Pea very soon after arriving in Eliot. Wow! Natural ingredients, composting and recycling are big BIG positives for this wonderful business. The food is amazing - everything we have had is fabulous. The egg wraps are popular, the Fougasse is legendary and the lattes are just what the Dr. ordered (have had them iced and not). Hint - if you are there early before the Fougasse is ready you can put one on hold and they will save it for you when you can get back in. Plan to wait if you are there at busy times (breakfast and lunch rushes and Saturday mornings after 9am) but it is sooooo worth it!

Beach Pea is a fantastic bakery that specializes in fresh baked breads, cookies, and a variety of cakes and other delectables. They make a rather eclectic type of sandwich on their fresh breads including; curry chicken salad on a French baguette, sliced steak sandwich on leaven garlic bread, etc. They also make incredibly good salads with baby greens. Sandwiches: $6-$9 Salads: $7-$11 Cookies: $2-$3 Breads: Vary Their bread selection is unmatched and much less expensive than the local major grocery store, Hannaford -- and they are a much higher quality. I have been in to gather goodies from Beach Pea three times already and each time has brought a smile to my face. The service is excellent, and if you are a delightful customer who smiles and says 'thank you,' than quite to your delight, you will find that the workers there are very nice in return.

Friday has been officially renamed éclair Friday in our family. Everything there is wonderful, all the counter girls are charming and friendly.

Beach Pea is probably my favorite bakery ever. The scones, the cookies, the coffee...it's all amazing. Their lunch sandwiches are great, too! I would love to jump in my car and drive the four hours up to Maine just for their cowgirl cookies.

This is THE place to go for lunch if you're in the area. Incredibly tasty sandwiches. Lots of great choices for bread and spreads. Would definitely go back if I lived in Southern Maine, northern NH. Everything is very fresh. I didn't get any pastries, they did look good too.

i had the best gluten free chocolate cookie of my life here. enough for the full 5 stars, easy. bonus invisible stars for being super eco-friendly (potato starch silverware for takeout, compost bin next to trash bin). and a few more for being on this amazing stretch of road. i keep imagining myself riding a bike up here across the memorial bridge from portsmouth and bringing back veggies from golden harvest, fresh pasta from terra cotta, and a huge warm chocolate cookie. mmm

I tried to order a specialty cake this morning... My daughter wanted raspberries in the tuxedo cake rather than strawberries. I was told that they simply couldn't do this... REALLY???!!! Kind of crazy if you ask me! Just lost my business!

I came here for lunch one day as a visitor to Maine and was in love with it. It's vegetarian friendly, but also a good selection of non-vegetarian as well. The salads were phenomenal- I recommend the Roasted Veggie salad. I came back a second day as it was so good. Highly recommend!!
