With the aid of Yelp, we found this delightful little gem of a place in Cape Porpoise, which provided one of the more memorable meals of our recent vacation to Maine. Though it seems that Nunan's is not lacking for endorsements, we were all so thrilled with the experience that I have to add my two cents as well. Tucked along a quiet road in Kennebunkport, Nunan's Lobster Hut is small enough to escape notice, were it not for the fact that it is so garishly painted... or that there are throngs of people lined up outside waiting for the place to open. Chatting with the patrons, this seems to be a favorite spot for the locals, far enough away from the more glitzy tourist traps that draw customers by the droves. Yet, shortly after its 5pm opening time, the place is simply teeming with customers, hungry for a lobster meal. Everyone at our table indulged in the two lobster meal. What we got were two 1 1/2 lb lobsters, served on a metal pan with two sides of butter and some Lays potato chips and some rolls. The delivery is certainly no-frills, but that is part of the place's understated charm. The lobsters themselves appeared to be soft shell, so they haven't yet grown fully into their shells. While it is true that you get a little less meat than a hard-shell lobster, the tradeoff is that the meat is more tender and a little more sweet. A few of us also started off with the clam chowder, which was thick and full of clams, and served at just the right temperature. It was among some of the best clam chowder I have had in a long time. To finish off the meal, a few of us ordered a slice of the blueberry pie. The crust was flaky and caked with granulated sugar, and the filling was full of unusually small and tart blueberries. All in all, a decent slice, though the crust was perhaps a bit too dry. The service at Nunan's is terrific. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and it's easy to see from their hospitality why the place has earned more than a few loyal customers. The ambiance is quite nice. The dining room is a long cabin with low ceilings and open windows overlooking a marsh. The August breeze was a welcome addition, with air that contained just the right amount of brine. The seating is more like picnic tables than booths, but again, this is part of the charm. A few things to know before you go: Nunan's doesn't accept reservations. Doors open at 5, and by then, there will be a modest line, but not so long that you won't be seated relatively quickly. The efficiency of the service ensures that there is a quick turnaround time. Perhaps, most importantly, Nunan's is CASH ONLY, so make sure to bring at least $50 per person in cash if you're planning on having wine. Finally, don't forget to bring a business card. Customers have taken the liberty of tacking their cards to the planks that line the walls and ceilings. Might as well add your name to the bunch!

This is really where the suckers moon. The woman who runs the place is an absolute harridan who tries to channel a Soup Nazi like demeanor into a kitchy Maine attraction. In point of fact, it's an overpriced lobster shack that serves cafeteria level sides and bread. A better and more scenic option, right on the water, is at the end of Pier Road called next to the Ramp restaurant: the Pier Road Chowder house is friendly, tasty and first rate.

Good lobster roll, but you'll need some clams to start if you are hungry.

Food: If you do not mind working for your food (cracking open full lobsters) then this is a great place for you. Really fresh and simple, Lobster and Chips is the standard order. Atmosphere: The area was small but really cool because it has a Maine - Type feel about it with pictures of fisherman from current and old days around the area. The area of Maine in general is breathtaking, also the home of Martha Steward and George Bush so you know it's legit. Good lobster, cool area, recommend this place.

Great service but over priced! Try the clam shack instead. Same dinner but for $9.95 instead of paying $19.95.

When researching where to eat during a trip to New England, I made a point to ignore reviews from people not from up there so if you ignore my review, go right ahead. Also, I'm not going to say anything terribly different than what everyone else said. But still, I feel it is my duty to lay one more 5 star review on this magical place known as Nunan's. It was a dreary Wednesday night when we pulled in but once we came in and took our place on the picnic tables, it was very welcoming and I forgot all about the icky weather outside. It's very straightforward and I'm pretty sure ordering anything other than a whole lobster (or two) is a criminal offense in the state of Maine. They very nicely do the hard work for you so mostly you just get to dig to your heart's content, the bibs aren't even necessary as there isn't much cracking to do. I didn't eat the potato chips but my dining companions said that it was actually the perfect accompaniment with the salty after the sweet. I thought I was too stuffed to even eat a single potato chip but then they ordered blueberry pie. I don't like blueberries or fruit pie in general. I took a bite thinking I was going to have to choke it down. JESUS H. CHRIST that shit was delicious. Wild Maine blueberries are tiny and sweet, not tart and with really thin skin. The crust was light with sugar crystals on the top, there was some cinnamon working in there that I usually wouldn't put with blueberries but it WORKED. As we were paying we commented to the lady at the counter how amazing the pie was and she started telling us about how she makes the pies by scratch and what she does (hand mix the dough, only use the wild blueberries.) Her last name was Nunan. The whole thing was just so legit no other meal we had on the trip could top it.

How you know Nunan's is the best lobster shack in Kennebunkport: 1) the parking lot is 6x the size of the shack itself. And full. 50% Maine license plates. 2) there are stacks of lobster traps and bouys out back in fine working shape -- They send 3 boats out every day. 3) there's always a line -- but the people are quite happy as they wait. 4) the 2 for 1 is 35% the cost of any of the waterside joints. (Beware waterside joints in Kennebunkport! Totally not worth it.) 5) It takes 20 minutes to get your lobster upon ordering (read: cooked from live). 6) Oh yeah, the lobster is amazing. This is a true Maine shack experience, with simple interior and simple trimmings, and served by friendly locals. So why do I give it 4 stars instead of 5? The trimmings are a total mismatch for the amazing lobster on the plate -- dill pickle chips, iceberg lettuce, bag-o-chips and average blueberry pie. To me, it's ironic that Nunan's -- and every shack I'm aware of for that matter -- doesn't try harder on this front. There is simply no excuse.

Nunan's is definitely "as good as it gets" (hence, 5 stars) if you're looking for a quintessential lobster experience. This is a "bring you a whole lobster that you crack open to eat" kind of place where they bring you a bib to wear when they deliver your drinks b/c they know you will need it. In other words, I wouldn't wear your Sunday best here. ;] Very fresh lobster, amazing prices, and the ambiance is simply perfect. It's like you walked into a sea shanty from a movie -- adorable and quite quaint. I want to clarify something others have said about the sharing, though, b/c I was misled by reading the reviews: You can most definitely share, so long as you order enough dinners for each person. In other words, I got the 2 lobster plate special (essentially 2 lobsters for the price of 1) and my husband got the lobster roll. We shared both and they were totally ok with that. (Both were outstanding, by the way!) There would only have been a problem had we JUST tried to share the two lobsters and not ordered the lobster roll. I hope that makes sense and helps. Also, I had a very positive experience and found the staff to be super friendly and very patient with a newbie like me (I didn't even know which part of the lobster I was supposed to eat!). Good service and good food at great prices. What's not to love? ;] If you want an authentic Maine lobster experience, it doesn't get any better than Nunan's!

Just went there last night and had one of the specials. Twin tails. Last time we were here was five years ago and it was pretty much the same which was fine by me. Lobsters were sweet and tender. It was our third lobster dinner in the Kennebunk, Ogunquit area and it was our best. We also enjoyed a Nunans rootbeer which was very good and the blueberry pie with ice cream and it was delicious. Really, really delicious! As with other reviews it is true, sides are lame but when eating lobster the sides are just a distraction. I just want to savor flavor of the lobster and once you dive into the process it's a full time job. The atmosphere is unique and timeless. No back to the benches at the tables....think picnic. They close mid October for the season.

Ok, can I give this place 10 stars? This place is fun. Looks like a dive from the outside, inside a slick gray painted floor gives the place a clean, slick look. That is nothing compared to the food. Very casual and a lot of locals frequent this place. Went on a Sunday and had no problem getting in. Had the 2 lobster special for $25. OHHHHHHH, the lobster was very easy to get into, meat was sweet and so tasty, comes with pickles, a roll, and potato chips. I say keep all of those and spend the $1.25 for a baked potato. It is served on metal trays and when you are done and ready to take a bath, walk up to the sinks in the dining room and clean off. Servers are friendly and the food is great. Enjoy. Will definitely be back as soon as I can get back to Maine.

Every year when we visit the Wells area of Maine we end up at Nunan's, have been doing so for about 12 years and usually plan our stay to coincide with their season closing day in mid-October. We were referred to Nunan's by the operator of a B&B where we stayed years ago, it was an extremely difficult place to find at night the first few times we visited them and before GPS. For us, a visit to Maine is not complete if we don't go to Nunan's. Like many have said, it's a long shack with no frills in decor and no frills in food appearance. It's lobster we want and it's lobster we get....some of the best, freshest lobster ever served on a metal tray. Depending on our travel budget sometimes we buy three orders of lobster, one for my husband, one for me and one to be split between the two of us. My husband always orders the freshly made blueberry pie, he loves it. I've ordered the lobster stew, it's OK, but I've had better-seasoned lobster stew at other places in Maine. Nunan's does not accept credit cards, they've always accepted our personal checks. The majority of the staff is very pleasant and many return year after year. If you visit while there are still mosquitoes around, bring your own can of Off or Cutter to spray around yourself while you wait to be called. Nunan's has its own parking lot. To Frank K.'s comment of 'country route robbery' I don't know what he means because I've never seen this expression before. If he's trying to say that Nunan's is expensive, nothing could be further from the truth. Everything we've ever paid for at Nunan's has been reasonably priced....from their lobsters to their desserts. All fresh boiled lobster is NOT delicious, the results depend on who's doing the boiling. Ever hear of the comment "can't even boil water"? Those people are still out there, I had an aunt who was a member of that group. To Wayne S.'s comment of "My wife liked her lobster roll, my chicken was eh...." This is a lobster shack, the specialty is lobster. Why would anyone order chicken at a lobster shack? Visit Nunan's, you'll be glad you did and you'll become a return customer.

First Time in Maine and FIrst Time at Nunan's and it won't be the last!! Found this place on Yelp and was not disappointed. Just stay with the basics, chowder and lobsters and blueberry pie. The clam chowder had just the right amount of salt pork taste. We had the lobster special - two 1 1/4 pounders. Right from the pot to our table. Sweet as sugar lobsters - enjoyed every morsel with our ice cold beers. Then finished with probably the best blueberry pie I have ever had - right balance between sweet and tart. The staff was great

Ate lobster dinner at Nunan's twice in a 4 night stay in Kennebunkport. This was the best meal (both times) that we had. Simple boiled/steamed lobster - perfectly cooked in a no frills setting - AS GOOD AS IT GETS!

For the sake of this review, I'm going to set the premise that all fresh boiled lobster are delicious, and to that end, this one is no exception. But beyond that, this place is nothing but a 'country route robbery' targeting unsuspecting tourists. The 1 - 1 1/8 lb lobster is almost twice as expensive as other places ($18), I guess it's because they say it comes with roll, chips and pickle... until I discover it's TWO SLICES of the pickles from the jar in your fridge, a BAG of Lay's that's $0.25 at the nearest vending machine, and the sorriest excuse for a roll; soft and mushy. Bottom line, road-side service with tablecloth prices. You're in Maine, delicious fresh boiled lobsters are not hard to find. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and go somewhere else.

I'd come back here even though my lil 11 month old was cranky here and didn't allow me to enjoy my meal. Literally, this place looked like a little hut. When you walk in its really cute...not what I suspected though. There were all different types of fishing items hanging from the ceiling of the hut. I took notice of one in particular because my father has it home and doesn't know what it is...it was a glass ball with a fishing net around it. The waitress told us that the Portuguese used it as buoys so that they can locate their fishing nets. She said they used to wash up along the shore when she was a kid. My dad ordered the 2- 1 and 1/4 lb lobsters and the chowder. Let's just say the chowder was outstanding...nice chunks of clam. His lobsters were shedders...they were very nice and sweet. There is nothing like getting plain, Maine lobster...with butter of course! I ordered a lobster roll for $11...very nice...cheaper than everywhere else (not as big of a portion though). Waitresses were very nice. They said they are closing for the season this saturday and reopening in May. If I ever come back to this area of Maine I would definitely make a pit stop.

I'm sorry, but this place left me cold. The lobster comes with a pathetic pair of pickle chips, a bag of Lay's, and a soft mushy roll that a school cafeteria would be ashamed to serve. They charge extra for any sides that would fill you up enough to not leave hungry, and even ask .25 for extra butter. Cash only, ATM machine connected to the building. I'm not a boiled lobster fan, so I ordered the lobster salad - a decent enough weight of lobster meat with just a side of mayo, two slices of tomato on one romaine leaf, and the ubiquitous pickles, chips, and roll. There was actually more lobster meat on my plate than from my husband's boiled lobster, which he claimed was four bites. Our server mistakenly gave him a 1-1/4 lb'er, serving his 1-1/2 lobster to my cousin. she woudn't admit her mistake. Anyone could see the size difference in the two. Won't be back, and won't be staring at the abandoned house across the street again either while waiting for our number to be called.

We love this place. We heard about Nunans from friends and family and have been going ever since. We always get the steamers and the 2 lobster specials. The streamers are so tender they just melt in your mouth. The lobsters we got were soft shelled so eating was a snap, by far the best lobsters we ever have had in Maine. Sweet and very tender. Don't worry about making a mess, they have sink stations in right in the dinning room. Make sure you get there early since after 6 pm it fills up quick. Oh and don't forget to have there homemade blueberry pie yum. Nunans is a great place for friends & family. We have made this our traditional must have when visiting Maine.

Nunan's is exactly what I had in mind when I dreamed of a Maine lobster hut. I was disappointed by places in downtown Kennebunkport like Mabel's and Alisson's because they seem like tourist traps and lacked the authenticity that I was looking for. Nunan's is a mix of local residents and visitors like me who are lucky enough to have heard about their reputation. This is a "no frills" dining experience, but a step up from the picnic tables and paper plates I expected. The restaurant is clean and food is clearly the spotlight. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and enjoying their wine and dinner companions. Now the most important part- the lobster!!!! Absolutely incredible. The best lobster I have ever had. Who cares that they give you potato chips when you're eating the most amazingly juicy and tender lobster you will EVER have. The steamers were great, and so was the coleslaw, and you should order them. But if you really want to indulge, skip the apps and sides and just order a third lobster for yourself. I thought two lobsters would be more than enough and as grotesque as it sounds, I could have eaten a third. They also pre-crack the lobsters for you so they are a little easier to manage. My friend, on the other hand, completely massacred hers and found all sorts of hidden spots with meat. Their 2 for 1 special (just under $25 when we went) is such a deal.

Raw, unfettered, basic in the rough Maine experience. Busy, lines, pared down atmosphere BUT a true tradition. Lobsters are steamed 2 perfection- sweet, tender & succulent, real drawn butter. Oh and if u want have a PB & J w/ a real root beer for dessert!

    (4)
  • Anne A.

Roughly....lobster in the rough! Go if you want unadorned lobster! The steak was very good too. The sides are ridiculous, potato chips and a mini hot dog bun and butter. I could really think of fab sides for them BUT it is all about the lobster. There are no water views, bummer, but the waitress who served is was so friendly and warm, it was almost scary how nice she was! Pies were ok nothing special, the ambiance was shack, but cute shack.

Nunan's is the quintessential lobster hut. You won't walk by many tables that are NOT sporting pizza-pie sized trays filled with lobsters or lobster carcasses. People here come for the lobster. Nunan's is a kitschy spot with lots of nautical gear hanging from the ceiling and glossy nailed down (?) tables and benches. Sarah and I ordered a couple beers and a couple lobsters. First, they bring you each a lobster bib, a large dinner roll, a pat of butter, two pickle slices, and a fun-sized bag of Lays potato chips. Time for another "?" The lobsters came and they were beautiful and pre-cracked, with some super-yellow melted butter on the side. The lobsters were, of course, delicious. Sarah, the smart one, mad her own lobster roll using some of her tail meat, the melted butter, and the dinner roll. She was happy with the results. When done, we used the handy wash-bins that they have throughout the seating area. Felt more thorough than the usual wet nap. After scrubbing the fish smell off us, we ordered their Toll House cookie pie and their blueberry pie. The Toll House cookie pie was warm and crazy good; their blueberry pie was good, but not as good as Mabel's in the next town over. We thought they were a little cheap with their scoop of ice cream to complete the a la mode. Summary: Nunan's is a fun place with a lively atmosphere and can't-be-beat fresh lobsters.

Oh my gosh!! I asked my Bed and Breakfast host about how to find a funky local lobster place, and among several others, she suggested Nunan's. I thought I would arrive for an early dinner, but finding it closed until 5 pm, I decided to hang around and wait. But the time the doors opened, there was a sizeable crowd waiting! Having never had real Maine lobster before (I'm a West-Coaster! Ask me about dungeness crab) I got the "real deal" experience. The restaurant itself resembles a summer camp cabin, but has lobster-related treasures all over the place. The presentation is very simple: a bag of chips, a roll, and then a metal pan with your freshly cooked lobster and melted butter. Oh - and don't forget the lobster bib!! You get one of those too! Delicious! I am so glad I went. The blueberry pie is a must - I have to agree with the other reviewers.... So fresh, and with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. When I returned to my B&B, my host seemed impressed I had gone to Nunan's and asked how long I had to wait. I laughed and told him I think I did it just right! Oh - they DO NOT take credit cards!!! You will need cash.

We took an impromptu trip to Kennebunkport for the 4th and decided to stop here for dinner before the fireworks. I don't think we could have picked a more fitting spot for the occasion. It's a casual, no frills setting, but it definitely doesn't lack in character or charm. The service was great and the food was divine. We ate ourselves silly with steamers, lobster rolls, the 2 lobster special, cole slaw, chips and some homemade blueberry pie a la mode. You can tell that the seafood here is as fresh as you can get, probably caught that morning. The steamers were tender and the lobsters, which are soft shell, were some of the sweetest and most delicious I've tasted, full of meat and super easy to crack. I'm usually not a fan of traditional lobster rolls that are mayonnaise based, but theirs was absolutely delicious. Some people have complained about the sides that come with the whole lobster dinners, a small dinner roll and bag of lays. This bothered me at first too, but I decided I kind of like it because you can tell they are serving up the meal just as they would have back in the 50's when they opened. It feels very authentic and the simple sides don't detract from the delicious lobsters sitting in front of you. Highly recommend!

We had a pretty good dinner at Nunan's. It's a bit divey looking, cash only, and I found the seating very uncomfortable. Since we had boiled lobsters the day before, I decided to switch it up and get lobster stew. Eewwww. It was basically just lobster meat with warmed up milk. I traded it out for some clam chowder which was thick, creamy and delicious. The fiancé went for a lobster again and was happy with it, although I have to say the bag of lays is a pretty wimpy side compared to other places where they offer fresh vegetables, potatoes, salad, etc... This is not a good place to eat lobster for the first time - there is no guide on the table. Service was fine, not good or bad, but fine. While fun, we had far better dinners elsewhere in Kennebunkport.

As unpretentious as you can find in Kennebunkport, even with all preppies that is unavoidable in town. Still had some of the best New England lobsters I've ever had, at competitive market prices too. Which surprised me with the snooty uppity-ness stereotypical of tis town. And the blueberry pie - you MUST try while here. Very blueberry-y and not too sweet, by far the BEST blueberry pie I've ever had.

While vacationing, we ask where did the locals go to have lobster. The answer was Nunan's! There is a reason the locals go there! I certainly would recommend this place if you're in the Kennebunkport or Sacco area.

lobster, lobster, lobster. this place know how to do lobster. their lobster is the sweetest I have ever had. if your within 1/2 hr of this place I would highly recommend it. the twin lobster is just perfect. it is a little odd that they serve a bag of chips with it, but whatever, it works their is a lot of chatter about their blueberry pie. after going to this place many times over the years, I finally had it. I wasn't impressed. it was ok. but so what, the lobster is killer. one downside is cash only so make sure you bring plenty.

What a fun little establishment. The inside is decked out in super high lacquered woods and old-timey fishing decor. The menu is small and clearly the special here is lobster. I thought prices were very reasonable. Service was excellent, our waitress was fantastic. We ordered 2 lobsters, clam chowder, a salad, and a hot dog (on a whim). Lobster was great. Clam chowder very respectable and apparently gluten-free for those of you that continue to fake a gluten allergy. The hot dog was standard. The thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars was the lack the of something extra like a special dipping sauce, or maybe really good fries or homemade ships (instead of the Lays chips). Regardless, definitely worth stopping in!

Nunans has limited hours so the first time we missed it but we were able to find time to come back between 5-830 but we had already eaten and came strictly for the blueberry dessert we had read all about -- but being tourists and lobster fans we got the only two homemade desserts and a lobster roll. The toasted bun was nice and the lobster was good - we had light mayo and some poured butter! I rate it 3rd in all of Maine. Do without the apple pie but when you come get a couple blueberry ala modes and a great lobster roll. Service was okay and the place was really clean! Oh and free parking!

Everyone told us we had to go here so we did. Good lobster roll but small and expensive. No frills type place but you don't really save much because of it. And everything is extra-like coleslaw and potatoes. I hear Port Lobster Co is far better both price and quantity, so we'll hit that tomorrow. Nunan's was less expensive that Barnacle Billy's in Ogunquin at comparable taste. But still pricey considering they are getting the lobster for $4 per lb. they really take advantage of the tourist season up here in Maine-probably won't come back here because of it. Seems the locals buy their lobster wholesale and cook it themselves. Unfortunately staying in a hotel we don't have that option.

We enjoyed Nunan's our first night in Kennebunkport. After a long travel day from NYC, we were ready to get some grub. First off Nunan's is a no frills restaurant. They serve one thing, lobster. The wait staff was very nice but in no rush. The chowder was great with the right amount of potato and clam. The lobster came out piping hot and was delicious! The blueberry pie was amazing! Price is moderate but we will definitely return.

Best lobstah in town. I am from MA and this place is not only cool inside, local (run by fisherman's wives), but it small menu is no frills the way lobstah should be. Had chowder, lobster, and pie. Small menu and really does not pander to tourists which is great.

Nunan's was recommended to us several times during our stay in Kennebunkport, so we figured we owed it a try. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I wasn't blown away. The lobster is good, but no better than other lobster I've had on this trip or any other. As other Yelpers have noted, the sides are downright disappointing. A bag of chips and literally two dill pickle slices are all you get. This pales in comparison to the sides included elsewhere. The clam chowder was tasty, but sorely lacking clam. It was mostly potato. I will say that the service was great, and the kitschy, classic shack atmosphere is kind of fun. It was an okay experience overall, but I'd try someplace else next time around.

There are many options available to you as you seek Maine lobster and having heard about Nunan's for many years, I tried it for my birthday dinner last night getting a two-pounder. The dinner was very disappointing. The lobster while tasty, was near overcooked, not overcooked enough to send back, but certainly not succulent. This is a place that borders between a "shack" and a "restaurant" and exhibits the worst of each. The servers are very nice but ponderously slow. The sides with your lobster are AWFUL. A cheap bag of Lay's potato chips, a cold roll and two pickle chips. For $3 you can get a spoonful of slaw. Be aware: No fries, onion rings or fried clams are offered which certainly makes the meal less fun. There is a highlight that prevents a one-star review. They have the most delicious blueberry pie I have ever had. They knew it was my birthday so they stuck a candle it - the least they could have done was comp it (didn't happen), but they are all about squeezing your cash - no, no credit cards are accepted. I know this place has a good rep, but you need to know you are getting very little and you can make a better choice.

This is our second year of coming to Maine as a family. I used to come here as a child and have now returned with my own family. We found Nunan's last year and couldn't wait to return this year. We were here for 7 nights and ate NunAn's 4 of the 7 nights. It's simple, perfect soft shell lobster. I do wish there were more sides available BUT given that the atmosphere and lobster are so perfect I will overlook the absence of more sides... The clam chowder is perfect. Just as clam chowder should be.... And for dessert I know the blueberry pie is made on premises but the blueberry cobbler a la mode is my favorite. Try it, you won't be disappointed. We will see you again next year Nunan's....

Nunan's was recommended by an employee from another lobster restaurant. In this part of Maine all the lobsters are fresh. But it the service and atmosphere that sets Nunan's apart from the others in the area.

I dunno - after years of driving past this place on vacation, we finally gave it a shot. It was quaint inside (loved the sink to wash up), and the servers were friendly, but the price, for a small lobster with a pasty roll and Lay's potato chips? How about a crusty roll and a small piece of corn instead? I mean, meh. The coleslaw was excellent, a la carte of course. No better than any other lobster we had on the trip. The evening's special was two 1 1/8lb lobsters for $25 I believe - I'm sure that is a good price if you want two lobsters, and a pasty roll. I suppose if you want to spend for the additional options, it's just as fine as any other place that serves lobster.

Lobsta!!! This is exactly the lobster experience I was looking for. We all got twin lobsters and loved them. The only thing I might like better, would be some different side dishes.

This place was pretty good! We spent 4 days in Maine and we couldn't find a good seafood spot that was actually worth eating but this place hit the spot! If you like lobster this is the place for you although if you don't want to get your hands dirty I wouldn't recommend it. Our waitress was super friendly and they were really welcoming when we walked in. Our waitress did forget our drink order though but all in all its good food!

Nunan's is fabulous! My boyfriend and I stopped for dinner during our trip to Kennebunkport. We had a delicious lobster meal and couldn't stop talking about how wonderful the food, service and atmosphere were! Best meal we've both had in awhile! *They do not accept credit cards so bring cash!

A favorite during our trip to Maine. This super cute spot has a good lobster roll that was fairly priced. The scene is very cute, I would go back. The lobster roll itself was tasty, the correct amount of bread to meat ratio and not over mayo-ed or buttered. They were open on the later side which was nice also.

Completely agree with everyone else who has posted! This place is fantastic. If you are looking for a simple atmosphere, great food and good service at very reasonable prices, Nunan's is your place. Definitely order steamed lobster and the Lobster Wine (I can't remember the exact name, but it's a Sav Blanc with lobster in the title) is a great match. Try to save room for dessert as the blueberry pie is very tasty too.

THE BEST MAINE LOBSTER YOU'LL EVER HAVE! Nunan's is my favorite Lobster Pound, bar none. It is not fancy, it is not new, and it is not within walking distance of anything. But the lobster is amazing and the atmosphere is lots of fun. The only problem is that Nunan's is a victim of its own success and weekends in the summer are likely to involve a wait. I found this place a long time ago on my first trip to Kennebunkport and it was the unanimous recommendation of several locals. I don't know if they're open all year, they don't seem to have a web site, and I don't know if there's anything there for someone who doesn't like lobster. But if you're looking for a place where you sit at picnic tables while eating the best lobster in the world, this is the place.

My husband did not enjoy his meal the one time we have dined here. He had chowder and a lobster roll. I ordered a burger and a beer which after a hot summer day tasted good and fresh. Nunan's is far from fancy and people who don't enjoy sea food (like me) may have a difficult time with the menu. But my meal was good. The views were great of course and while I appreciate the concept of "in the rough" dining at certain restaurants, seating here was kinda uncomfortable.

What you want: simply the freshest, most delicious lobster with drawn butter. What you get: exactly that. No pretension, great service and excellent lobster is the star of the show. We brought our large family and were seated after only 7 minutes, and they were more than accommodating for the kids. As all the other reviews say, the blueberry pie is a must. It looks like a small joint but it is actually quite big inside and unless they are really slammed the wait shouldn't be bad.

The lobster is phenomenal. My boyfriend and I were looking for a real Maine lobster experience and this place was aMAINEzing. Two lobsters for $25 dollars, we both got two and devoured them both within seconds. They were tender and fresh. Great!!! The blueberry cobbler was also to die in. The only complaint about this restaurant is that the seating is very uncomfortable it is a metal slab with no back and it needs to be replaced - not OK. But we would come back here in a second the lobster was so good.

Nunan's is awesome and I will be hard-pressed to write anything that hasn't already been said. This restaurant shows that simple really is best. I had a lobster roll which was pretty much lobster meat on a roll. There was barely any mayo or anything added so the lobster was really the star of the dish. My boyfriend ordered a lobster and it was perfectly cooked. I have seen some people say it is pricey, but compared to the other restaurants I saw around (as a tourist) it was on par in price, and it is definitely way cheaper than any lobster I can get here in Montreal. If it were closer to my home, I would definitely go often. I can't wait until my next trip to Maine!

lobster, lobster, lobster. this place know how to do lobster. their lobster is the sweetest I have ever had. if your within 1/2 hr of this place I would highly recommend it. the twin lobster is just perfect. it is a little odd that they serve a bag of chips with it, but whatever, it works their is a lot of chatter about their blueberry pie. after going to this place many times over the years, I finally had it. I wasn't impressed. it was ok. but so what, the lobster is killer. one downside is cash only so make sure you bring plenty.

What a great place to get your lobster at a great price. Their beer selection, the food, and the servers were awesome. It is all indoors - you sit on picnic like tables and enjoy a great meal. Oh!!!! CASH ONLY.

Had the lobster roll and two lobster dinner special. Food on both occasions was very good and arrived quickly! The service was friendly and familiar and the atmosphere is quaint and costal! I think this is the best lobster value/ experience for the money in the area. I would highly recommend.

Great price on lobster, but they have a HEAVY hand on each person ordering their own. Two lobsters was ~$29, but no sharing One 1 1/2 pount lobster, roll, pickle and drawn butter was $18, $1.75 for baked potato, CASH or CHECK (no credit cards) Fun atmosphere.

can i give one over the max for stars? this place was INCREDIBLE and our waitress was AMAZING. She really helped us to figure out what we were doing-- usually, we get shelled lobsters. but they're not shelled here; this place is for hardcore lobster fanatics. if you need to go to a shi-shi restaurant for lobster, then that's fine. but this place is better. the atmosphere is really fun, there's tons of little decorations everywhere, but they're hanging from the ceiling and not overwhelming. the place was newly painted, so it smells clean and looks ready for summer! right now, it's 2 lobsters for $27!!! so much food... the butter was really delicious and i usually don't like butter. anyway, if you're around, this is the best, most unpretentious, non-bougie place for a great meal. just make sure to wear that bib and unpop your collars.

I've been going to Nunan's with my family every summer for about 20 years. Every year, it seems to get better! The service is always amazing and the food is out of this world. The lobster is always fresh and perfectly cooked. Also, if someone in your group may not like lobster as much as everyone else, they have hot dogs and hamburgers on the menu. At the end of my meal, I always order the Nestle Toll House Cookie Pie - it's one of the best desserts I've ever had. Amazing place!!

The restaurant looks like a fisherman's shack with wooden tables and benches, but that's part of the lure of Nunan's. The lobster is great, but do not order a lobster salad. It's not really a salad, more like lobster with a few vegetables thrown on top. It's a fun place. Recommended.

Been coming here for years. The lobster is phenomenal!! Always cooked perfectly and pre-cracked for ease of eating. You can't get a better lobster anywhere (as good, maybe, but not better). However, that said, be very aware that this restaurant is primarily a lobster joint. That's what you go for. Menu selections are limited and sides are basically nonexistent. The exception is dessert - the blueberry pie is divine. The atmosphere is quaint and reflects the fact that this is a lobster shack. There are a couple of extra sinks floating around for washing up after eating and the tables have a lip to keep the lobster mess in check. Also the staff is super friendly and very accommodating. Definitely worth going if you are after a great Maine lobster experience.

The clam chowder was so gritty, I was afraid of cracking my teeth. I stopped eating it after 3 spoonfuls. The lobster roll had no taste except that of the buttered roll, until, that is, I had a bite that was very, very fishy. I have never had lobster taste fishy like that before, and ate less than half. I was not about to try the desserts. I will never go there again.

What is a summer vacation in Maine without lobster? And if you're gonna do it, do it right. Get a real lobster that you dig into with your hands. That's what I was telling myself when I ordered a 1 1/2 pounder. I soon realized, I do not know how to eat a lobster. I looked across the table and asked my wife, "You know how to eat one, right?" Since she ordered the same thing. "Ummmmm..." was all she had to say. As we panicked, we watched other tables and tried to determine their technique. Legs, then claws, but what is up with the tail/body? Thankfully, the Internet told us more and we are now expert lobster dismemberers. My advice is to look it up beforehand and just give it a try. It's not that difficult and no one is looking at your technique except people who don't know how to eat a lobster. The payoff is significant. Our lobsters were super fresh and had plenty of succulent meat. The meat came out easily and tasted absolutely amazing. And we felt like champions when we were done. We further rewarded ourselves with a (quite large) slice of blueberry pie a la mode. The crust was sparkling with sugar (but not too sweet, somehow) and the berries were tiny and wonderful. The ice cream was a nice vanilla, thick and creamy. Perfect for sopping up pie filling. Service was friendly and attentive, but it did take a while to get our bill because a family of like 17 got seated in our section. This place is very popular with families, so there were a few huge groups and lots of kids running around. Which was pretty obnoxious, but not the restaurant's fault. Prices were very fair. The sides were not impressive, but who friggin cares. Lobster is the star of the show and doesn't need an ensemble to support it.

Nunans was recommended to us by the Inn we were staying at. We had 10 people, all from out of town, all looking for a good place to eat. There are lots of fancier restaurants, but when the inn keepers described Nunans to us, we knew it was perfect for a quintessential Maine experience. I can't remember all of the specials, but the most anyone paid was $25. I think it was 3 one-claw lobsters for $25 or two other lobsters for $25. We got there and they were able to seat our whole group. For those who didn't want lobster, there were other options too. The waitress was great with our group and explaining everything to us out of towners. We had a lot of fun and would definitely recommend Nunans to others in the area!

Quality lobster and seafood for affordable prices found here. Doesn't take reservations, but they can accommodate large parties easily. Warm aesthetic to the place; our family loves visiting for a classic Maine meal!

Had the lobster roll and two lobster dinner special. Food on both occasions was very good and arrived quickly! The service was friendly and familiar and the atmosphere is quaint and costal! I think this is the best lobster value/ experience for the money in the area. I would highly recommend.

Charming little place. Friendly staff. Good food. I drove by this place while eating at another nearby restaurant for lunch. I just liked the curb appeal and had a hunch that it would be good so I came for dinner. Glad I trusted my instincts.

Ok... I expected better based on word of mouth. Service was non-attentive and lobsters over cooked. Found other local lobster joints to be much, much better.

We love Nunan's - even planned our vacation around their closing date. Lobster was great and their wasn't a morsel left on either of our plates. Looking forward to returning again next year!

The restaurant looks like a fisherman's shack with wooden tables and benches, but that's part of the lure of Nunan's. The lobster is great, but do not order a lobster salad. It's not really a salad, more like lobster with a few vegetables thrown on top. It's a fun place. Recommended.

There is simply no excuse.

lobster, lobster, lobster. this place know how to do lobster. their lobster is the sweetest I have ever had. if your within 1/2 hr of this place I would highly recommend it. the twin lobster is just perfect. it is a little odd that they serve a bag of chips with it, but whatever, it works their is a lot of chatter about their blueberry pie. after going to this place many times over the years, I finally had it.

Had the lobster roll and two lobster dinner special. Food on both occasions was very good and arrived quickly! The service was friendly and familiar and the atmosphere is quaint and costal! I think this is the best lobster value/ experience for the money in the area. I would highly recommend.
