Here are the two things we heard about Bandaloop before coming to Bandaloop (which is incredibly fun to say... Bandaloop): 1. Local 18 year old scooping at ice cream shop: "You should definitely make a reservation. It's pretty much always busy." 2. Russian woman who owned a local beauty parlor: "Why you go there? Skeep theese restaurant. Get bloodies and tirameesu at other place." Anyway, we popped in around 5 and made a reservation for 7 (glad we did, because, yes they really were that busy). When we came back at 6:40, we told them we knew we were early, but they graciously seated us anyway. The warm decor and rustic atmosphere is very... cool meets sexy meets sophisticated meets accommodating. There were girl's night out groups, dates, families. All felt like they belonged there. My one gripe is that halfway through our meal, two servers came over and without really asking us, moved our table to make room for people sitting to the right of us. It felt a little invasive and amateur hour-y. And because they did that, the people to the left of us, when seated, hit our drinks/me in the face with their enormous purse. Yikes! Drinks: Okay, I genuinely cannot remember what we had... I believe my friend had the Bada Bing (gin, cherries, and prosecco) and could only drink one because it was so strong. I had some lovely, garden-y summer drink with cucumbers, limoncello, and prosecco; then chased it with a really well-balanced red sangria. Food: +Bandaloop Egg Rolls ($9), caramelized red onions, walnuts, spinach, danish blue cheese, and a sweet & sour port wine/balsamic reduction: you REALLY need to like blue cheese to like this, which I do, so YUM. It's one of those dishes that what you think you're going to get, you do. A crispy deep-fried to golden perfection egg roll, filled with melted blue cheese, crunchy walnuts, and fresh spinach. + Avocado Mash ($8), lime-wasabi vinaigrette, tempura nori, and a wonton: an Asian-inspired guacamole, essentially. AND SO DELISH. If you like Asian flavors, guacamole, and aren't a guac purist, you'll appreciate this (and if you ask for more wontons - which you're probably gonna need - they'll give them to you free of charge). The tempura nori was a nice touch, not ocean-y tasting at all, and definitely could be more prominently featured. + Vermont Cheddar Quesadilla ($11), salsa fresco, herbed sour cream, sugar cured jalapeños: it's just a cheese quesadilla, honestly. It's safe, it's simple, but it's still delicious. The salsa fresco and herbed sour cream were delicious, and definitely made it feel much more classy. The ONLY thing my partner and I wanted MORE of was the sugar cured jalapeños - they didn't seem sugar cured at all, and we wanted that juxtaposition of flavors/textures it would provide. - Oyster Mushroom Ceviche ($11), sauteed Italian oyster mushrooms, marinated red onion, lime, cilantro, basil, tomato, jalapeños, and crunchy corn tortilla disks: think hearty mushrooms and lots of onions in fresh, cold Mexican flavors wrapped in a zucchini strip. Not necessarily my kind of dish, it was a little too one-note for me, but I can imagine people really liking it! + Mango Ginger Carrot Cake ($8), served warm with lime cream cheese frosting and a mango coulis: what a fun take on carrot cake. The Indian-esque spices were different and flavorful. + Sea Salt Créme Caramel ($8), served with a brown butter-pretzel-butter cookie: how can you not love a sea salt creme caramel that ACTUALLY features chunks of sea salt... delicious and silky! Service: Impeccable. The server was patient, thoughtful, accommodating, had fabulous suggestions, knew the menu inside and out, and genuinely loved working there (as she told us she had been there since almost the beginning and loved working for the owners). Just. Fab. I can't wait to come back here to show this place off to my friends. Maybe next time we'll reserve a high top though!

As I write more and more reviews, I've realized that the things that sell me on a place (well, beside the obvious - yummmmay food!) are great service and never feeling as though I have overstayed my welcome. This place wins on both those AND had yummmay food! My friend and I were playing tourist in Kennebunkport on a hot Sunday in August. While popping in and out of stores, we ran into a "local" who recommended we make a reservation when we said we were planning to have dinner here. So, we wondered over and made one. When we returned just before our 7 PM res, we were promptly seated and our waitress greeted us. She was great right out of the gate! She knew the menu well and was prepared to answer all our questions, as well as share her candid opinions. She knew her stuff! Helps that she has been working there for a very long time (I can't remember how many years, but it was a lot). We each ordered drinks while we continued to peruse the menu. Special hometown shout out: This place has a drink called the "Millinocket Mule"!! I still feel guilty for ordering the Prosecco drink instead....well, not too guilty. It was so good. My friend and I agreed to share some dishes as that affords one the opportunity to try so much more! Always a good move. This night, we managed to share 4 "snacks" and 2 desserts. My kind of dinner! What we had: Bandaloop Egg Rolls - stuffed with blue cheese, caramelized onions, walnuts with a port wine reduction. Umm - why can't all egg rolls be this flavorful? Avocado Mash - a fun Asian twist on guacamole. Why don't we experiment more with those avocado based dips? Inspirational? Quesadilla - Vermont cheddar with salsa, sour cream, and sugared jalapenos. This was good - but I wish the sugared jalapenos were a little more sugary and were inside the quesadilla, not on the side. Oyster Mushroom Ceviche - mushrooms with herbs and tomatoes, onion, and jalapenos. This was a solid B+. While I really wanted to try the scallops, I was feeling a bit full and really, I'm all about dessert. Thankfully, my friend humored me and we skipped a main course and went straight for the sinful. We shared a Mango Ginger Carrot Cake and a Sea Salt Creme Caramel. I loved both and wouldn't be able to choose just one when I return. And return I will!! Who wants to go with me??

Bandaloop is kind of designed like that beach cottage you wish you had...rustic, exposed beams, intimate. It is a good date spot in my mind. Looking back, I think the bar is actually the coolest part of the restaurant and would be my choice if we came back. The menu is intriguing and there were lots of things I wanted to try. I think the only thing that actually delivered on expectations was the mac 'n cheese...definitely worth an order. The avocado smash tasted overwhelmingly like peanut/cashew sauce and the dipping instruments were lacking. The lemon tahini in the kale salad overwhelmed it (almost like ranch dressing). My swordfish presentation was mediocre with a huge glob of sweet potato hash (looked like poo) and a ginger/soy/teriyaki sauce that lacked any spice and was overly sweet. It sounded delicious, but it fell flat. The service is friendly but a little slow (it wasn't overly busy). Overall I think that I would go back as it is charming inside, but I would just eat the mac and drink beers (good beer list).

Very nice and rustic modern ambience. Coming from Houston, we are spoiled with many different flavors and level of service. This place ranks pretty high in all the places we have been. I ordered the Creole Tomato Bisque and my wife ordered the avacado appetizer. Both were outstanding. I asked for some hot sauce and what came was a truly delightful, yet hot (habanero), sauce. My wife and I were loving it. For the main course my wife got the the kale salad and I had the Mac&cheese since it was a strong recommendation from the hostess and our server. I was not disappointed and neither was my wife. Though just get the half portion as it is a filing meal. Overall, Babaloo was a great experience and the food was awesome as well.

After reading the other reviews of this place we felt this was a good choice for dinner tonight...and boy were we right! Made the reservation for 8, showed up a bit before and tried one of the signature cocktails ( goose rock gimlet which was the nectar of the gods) and took in the ambiance! The bar was very small but it was well placed in the middle of the two seating areas. We got seated on the left side of the restaurant where the kitchen is. It was a cozy corner booth that was very comfortable and secluded. The kitchen was open and ran like clockwork. The wait staff was excellent. They did not rush us, they gave food advice when needed, and were very very friendly. Top notch. We started with the mussel which were out if this world good. I got the special halibut which was the best thing I have eaten all week (and that's saying something). My girlfriend got the Mac and cheese with chicken and loved every bite. We will be coming back and highly recommend this restaurant!

Really can't go wrong with a place labeled as farm-to-table. Food was both adventurous and delicious. Waitress, great. Hostess, not great. We got seated at the bar in a close-to-empty restaurant while the couple that came in afterwards got a nice table. Was it something I said? Good food, but call ahead. I don't think the hostess likes walk-ins on a rainy, slow, Sunday night.

I've tried to call and order take out twice during my week here in Kennebunkport and both times was told that the restaurant was too busy to serve me. I find that very disappointing and somewhat oxymoronic. I'd love to try it, but with a small child take out is our best option. I probably won't keep trying to get service here.

I am a foodie and I have sought out and eaten in many fine restaurants. Bandaloop is among the best I have encountered in my relatively long life. My brother gets credit for introducing us to this restaurant with its exceedingly fresh farm to table ingredients and its remarkably imaginative menu. We began with their eggrolls that, as it turns out, were based on caramelized red onion, walnuts, spinach, Danish bleu cheese and a sweet and sour port wine balsamic reduction. As a born-again carnivore, I was a bit dubious about this dish, but ended wishing I had placed an order just for me. We also shared an additional dish of oyster mushroom ceviche that was at least as delicious as the eggrolls. My brother and I had the sesame-seared scallops with lemongrass aioli and tamari caramel accompanied by pickled julienne vegetables and perhaps the most delicious Basmati rice I have ever encountered. I could go on in detail about the various dishes but, trust me, it would only make you envious. I will add that the dessert was a special cake whipped up for my wife's birthday that turned out to be based on fresh peaches, toasted almonds, ginger, and the wonderfully moist spice cake base. This was an exceptional creation and a remarkable conclusion to a remarkable meal. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates excellent food prepared in an imaginative fashion. The owner is also the chef and that gives you some sense of the investment made in the offerings. It is not an inexpensive eatery, but you'll be dining off the memory of your meal for weeks to come.

I look forward to eating at Bandaloop every time I visit Kennebunkport. Definitely my favorite restaurant in the area. The food and drinks are always very interesting (but nothing too strange) and perfectly prepared with special attention to my annoying dietary restrictions, though there is certainly plenty for the omnivores. It's a sign of a great meal when even the rice and vegetables that come with most entrees are incredibly good. Go here. Eat all the food. Send me your leftovers. Very friendly and attentive service too.

This is the type of restaurant that all foodies will enjoy! Farm to table concept with an exceptional and unique menu. The mussels, egg rolls and kale salad are dreamy and the Mac and cheese is beyond. Cool vibe and great owners and waitstaff that deliver top notch service. A must try if you are in KPT- make reservations in advance since this is a hot spot for locals and tourists alike!

The food was good, nothing wrong at all. It just wasn't outstanding. But the noise level was so high that my wife and I couldn't have a conversation. Would come back.

Perfect atmosphere, perfect drinks, perfect meals with perfect portions and entrees. Highly recommend the sesame seared swordfish special, the mussels small plate, and the crab cakes appetizers. They also have many other local eats and options. Five stars for sure.

Get the wilted spinach salad, the egg rolls, and the mac n' cheese. For drinks, get the mojitos with ginger beer. You won't regret it.

Upon arrival and looking at the menu we almost left...so glad we stayed and decided to give it a try. We sat at the bar and ordered the oyster mushroom ceviche. Might sound weird but let me tell you, it was so delicious. The mushrooms were marinated very nicely and there was sliced jalapeno which gave it a great kick. Bartender was also super friendly and nice. Drinks were great as well!

Great food, drink and atmosphere! What more could you ask for? We had the kale salad, chilled carrot habanero soup special, salmon entree and soft shell crab special... all were fantastic! The kale salad was standout! A must visit in Kennebunkport.

My husband, my in-laws, and I had the best meal of our entire trip at this restaurant. Great wine list, cool ambiance, fantastic food. I ordered the swordfish entree and hubby ordered the pork chop. Both were cooked perfectly, and the side dishes complimented them well. Wait staff was very nice. I originally ordered a glass of Chenin blanc, but it wasn't to my liking (too sweet). I asked if I could exchange it for a glass of Sauvignon blanc, and our waitress said it was absolutely no problem! For dessert, we ordered the creme caramel and the brownie. Both were delish. Only complaint is that coffee was a little weak. Would definitely dine here again!

Very tasty option. We were here for dinner and had crab cakes, tri-steak tips, kale salad with salmon. The crab cake appetizer ($13) was delicious, sauce was very flavorful and cake was full of crab without much filler (we had other crab cake elsewhere and it was tasteless froze pre-made patties). My wife's kale salad with salmon ($20) was cooked perfectly, fresh and tender. Lastly, the steak ($30) was also very good, seared perfectly, juicy and flavorful. Plus the nice atmosphere and friendly service, this is worth a return trip.

Wow! In a sea of mediocre shore-side restaurants, Bandaloop stands out not just as the best, but as a true contender in any location and a foodie delight! My wife and I ate here twice during our vacation in Maine. For reference, we both like MC Perkins Cove. In our opinion, Bandaloop is even better (except for the view, of course...MC Perkins Cove is wonderful, too, and situated on a beautiful sandy plot adjacent the Atlantic with stunning views). Tonight my wife enjoyed the scallops and I had the sesame seared tuna special. Both were elegant and tasty :) Oh, and if you haven't made a reservation yet, don't fret; we called and left a message in the morning and one of Bandaloop's friendly staff called around 2:40pm to help us schedule our dinner. You've got to try this place!

What a pleasant surprise Bandaloop proved to be! I never would have known about this charming little restaurant had I not won a gift certificate for placing in a recent 5k. This was such a treat for a date night with hubby. All organic, awesome.... Vegan and gluten free options, amazing. It's hard to find places so dedicated to serving quality food to people with special diets. Amy, our waitress was wonderful at explaining the menu and answering all my questions. We both had drinks and shared the avocado mash appetizer which although it contained wasabi, was not overly spicy. I appreciated that aspect as I can be sensitive to hot and spicy things. Hubby had the special of the night, tuna tacos. I was nervous that he wouldn't like it because the tuna was in little cubes in a chile sauce and essentially raw. Being that he doesn't like sushi or raw things, I was worried he'd be unhappy with his choice. He actually liked it! I had the scallop dinner with rice and fresh vegetables julienned with some sort of heavenly dressing. Absolute perfection! We ate until we couldn't eat anymore. It was a little on the pricier side for some of the meals, but for the quality and integrity of the ingredients used, absolutely worth it. We will absolutely be back! Best thing that came out of participating in a 5k

This place was recommended to us by one of the local shopkeepers. We were not disappointed at all! This place has great and cozy atmosphere, and amazing food.We started with tomato soup with sage and Brussel sprouts. For the main dish we ordered duck special and grilled chicken with goat cheese and sundries tomato pesto. Everything was delicious! Our server and host was kind and gracious and quick to serve us. I would definitely recommend this place.

I owe them a thank you, Every time someone asks me where to go for dinner (which is a lot) I always send them HERE. I have never been told anything but "GREAT suggestion, thank you so much" It REALLY is a guaranteed good meal! I love everyone there! Patron Gimlets+seafood specials+egg rolls = Happy Patrick!

We typically love this place, but ... we went there the other night and left disappointed. It was only 8:30 and on a SA night - but the staff was pretty much done for the night. For us is was a celebratory evening out, but struggled to get much service. When they showed up @ the table, all were very nice, but quick out of there and off and out of site for long stretches of time. The food was good, I guess, not to our palette, certainly not amazing, but perhaps tastes others enjoy. All four dishes were not what we had hoped. Signing off ... a long time fan searching for other options.

Went there to meet friends for dinner. The place was crowded and we did have reservations for which we were a little late. They still had our table for us and we're sat with no issues. The service was very good, personable, and knew their menu well. We had the crab cakes appetizer it was good (it did have peas in the cake which was little odd but it was still tasty). Main course we tried the soft shell crab special and the pork chop with sweet potato mash. Both meals were excellent. The price was okay not too expensive but not to cheap. I would certainly recommend this place and would go back to try some more things.

Great ambience, we had a late reservation and the place was still very crowded...which told us we were in the right place! I had the steak and it was very good, I also had one of the martini's and it was exquisite as well! Very good food and great service. Will definitely go back.

I was sent here by the concierge at the Nonantum. It was billed as excellent food which had an eclectic flair. The restaurant was clean. Service was Excellent. The food was good. A bit expensive. I had a goat cheese appetizer. The cheese was flavorful and the presentation was decent. Not bad. I had scallops for dinner. They were encrusted wasabi. They were good. Apparently, one of our former presidents frequents this establishment. He wasn't there that night. All in all it was good. I wouldn't go back.

I am a gluten-free vegan and I asked the server to tell the chef to surprise me and the food was fantastic! I had braised tofu with rice balls and lots of wonderful veggies. Great sauce as well. Also had VG/GF apple crisp and it was perfect!

Fantastic restaurant! We went on a Monday night as my in-laws were watching the kiddos. It was still pretty crowded when we got there. Everything was delicious from the soup, to the mussels, to the mac and cheese, and dessert. It is a little tricky to find, but the service was great and the food divine. I highly recommend!

Banda-WHOOP! We live pretty far away from this place (about 50 minutes drive to get there) but it's well worth it! The food is very consistent. We usually order the same thing each time (boring, I know, but that's why we go!) and it's always tasty and well prepared each time. They also have a fantastic soup-du-jour that changes daily. One of our favorites (okay, two of our favorites) has been the roasted pablano pepper in coconut milk and a hot n' sour soup. The best part?! The soups are ALWAYS vegan! We also love the wilted spinach salad and the organic cheddar quesadilla, which is really crispy and light (not greasy like most places) served with an amazing pico-de-gallo. I would recommend calling ahead to make a reservation, because they do get really busy, especially in the summer. If your looking for a place that is romantic or casual and serves local, organic, tasty food- call Bandaloop! PS. Make sure to try their pomegranate cosmo martini, it is very light and not too sour or sweet. If you are going for non-alcoholic, try the Maine-made, all natural root beer in the bottle- it's so good!

We had been going to Kennebunkport for years before we found Bandaloop. Every time we asked a local for their favorite restaurant Bandaloop was the answer, and now we know why! The wilted spinach salad is amazing as are the egg rolls. The bartender is a wizard with the mixed drinks and also does the wine buying and knows his stuff. The wine list isn't huge but it is hand selected and high quality. In August they had a picture on their Facebook page where they went and foraged 40lbs of mushrooms. How cool is that?! The food is all super fresh and delicious. I highly suggest that you go find Bandaloop!!

There aren't many times I go out and am able to finish my entire meal including my appetizer and desserts. The service, atmosphere and drinks were all great as well. I won't be forgetting this meal for years to come just out of this world delicious.

I've had better food, but not much. Bandaloop came exactly as advertised - great food, friendly service, and an atmosphere that had us smiling through the entire meal. Walked in without a reservation, and ended up eating at the bar. The bartender was a joy to watch - not showy, but clearly a learned hand in the craft of drink-preparing, he entertained us while we waited for our food to arrive (whether he realized it or not) As so many others have, we enjoyed the "egg rolls", and went on to have the salmon and mac & cheese, respectively. Couldn't find room for dessert, but it's on the list for a return trip.

  • Carla B.

The food was ok, nothing to write home about. The egg rolls were different, which made them fun to taste, but still not tasty. We had the halibut and blueberry compote as well as there house special tuna. Halibut was decent, but still not my favorite. The tuna was tough and didn't taste fresh. Overall the bread and olive oil was probably the best part of the entire experience.

this little gem was a drive from pinecrest Inn the B&B we were staying at (this bed n breakfast is Amazing by the way)but was recommended by the innkeepers. We had to try it. So glad we did. We didn't make reservations (I recommend you do) but we got lucky and a friendly bartender cleared up two seats for us at the bar. We got a few drinks and ordered pretty much the entire menu. Each dish came out better and better. Its been a while since I loved the complete experience of a restaurant as much. From the exterior and interior decor to the beautiful romantic vibe inside to the food and the service and even the patrons seemed to all be incredibly sweet and warm. I think this place casts a spell on everyone. I can't wait to return to Maine for this spot especially.

I don't know who indicated that Bandaloop isn't good for kids, but our kids love it. Before introducing a new children's menu recently, Bandaloop would let my younger kids "make up" entrees - nothing crazy, we're just talking chicken breast or steak - but still, they did it and did it cheerfully. What more could a parent ask for? The new kids' menu is better than most I've seen in more than a decade as a parent. Across the board, the food is good, fresh, and presented nicely. Bandaloop is a Must every time we are in K'port, with or without the kids. Would give 5 stars if - and I hate typing this - the waitresses were more focused on the customers and less focused on chatting. We've never had a problem with their waiters or their busboys; in our experience, the guys are universally excellent.

My husband and I discovered this gem on a website of Maine's top 50 restaurants and this caught our eye because of the fresh local organic ingredients. We were sold right away as that is our lifestyle. I have never been so satisfied with any meal in my life at any other place. We got the kale salad, quesadilla, salmon, the daily soups, everything is just fantastic. We will be coming here non stop!!!

My wife and I were steaming lobsters back at the hotel and were looking for a side. We ordered the wilted spinach salad. It looked like there was too much dressing, but it was perfect. Over dinner that's all we could talk about how good the salad was. If it wasn't for our 18 month old we would go there for dinner.

To start off, I will admit I was hesitant about coming to this place since it has such a limited menu compared to most other places in the area. However, I loved the location, ambiance, and creativity in design of this restaurant. It's a place you visually want to eat and drink at and if I were a local, I'd probably be there fairly often. On the other hand, the server we had not only got me the wrong beer twice, but my friend explicitly told her she couldn't have basil, only to have it delivered to her with basil on it. They had to make her a whole new one. I know this isn't New York, where we are from, but that almost always warrants a complimentary drink or dessert or something, which we were not offered. I give this place three stars because the food, in the end, was fantastic. The mussels I got were humongous and the white wine garlic sauce delicious. Their cooks clearly know what they're doing. No doubt about it. This place has the potential to really rock Kennebunkport. Service needs some serious training (many servers just standing around, our server barely knew the specials and obviously messed things up), and I also think that with such creative chefs and cooks, more can and should be added to the sparse menu.

Hands down my FAVORITE restaurant in Port!!!! The beet salad my fave! Add fried tofu to it and WOW!!!! I love the cold soups!!! Their specials are always to die for. Service is impeccable & I love the ambience and decor!!!! Thank you Bandaloop staff for always impressing us!

The food is great and different from what you get around here due to the other restaurants trying to meet the expectations of tourists. Try the kelp salad and you'll have a better appreciation for this healthy green.

My wife and I had a wonderful meal! The egg rolls were the best I've had. Next, the kale salad was delicious. Was big enough to share. We had the halibut and special tuna. Cooked just right, with tasty sauces. Sautéed Assorted veggies were a nice touch. Loved the wasabi mashed potatoes served with the sesame tuna. Finished with a creamy, delicious creme brûlée! Definitely going back. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

Ok experience. Service was good, was not crowded the night we went. Maybe we got the wrong things but the ribeye was not good. Both my husband and I got ribeye as we were kind of tired of seafood at the end of our stay at Kennebunkport. The steak itself is not great quality, lots of fats and parts tough to even cut. We shared the Mac and cheese. It's not that different than the usual Mac and cheese. Portion sizes are great though, big portions. Just lacks flavor and avoid the steak!

  • Christopher C.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. The wait staff was awesome and very friendly. No one wrote down a single thing we ordered yet it came promptly and was always correct. They also let my wife use their break room to breast feed our son, away from the restaurant noises. The food and drinks were delicious. I recommend their version of "Mac and Cheese." If you are in the area this place is worth a visit.

Bandaloop, according to the menu. is named after a tribe in a Tom Robbins novel that claimed to have found the fountain of youth. The owners follow that analogy through to the naming of their store by professing that a good, organic, locally grown diet is a natural extension to that story. A great story for a name. It doesn't hurt that the food is pretty fantastic, prices are reasonable, and the service outstanding. (Seriously, I think the service at Bandaloop was all around the best service I've ever recieved. And I wan't drinking all that much.) We were in Kennebunkport for four nights and ate at Bandaloop for three of them. The place is in a converted barn, and the atmosphere is warm, interesting and intimate, though a little over-the-top on the kitchy-eclectic-ness ( think an entire pier one store circa 1997) but it works in the setting and the food is downright irresistible. The owner is often in the kitchen, and it's an open kitchen. Of the many items on the menu we enjoyed, I most fondly recall the wilted spinach salad with a plethora of yummy extras including local (increidble) sheeps milk cheese, a fennel and red pepper soup, a grilled halibut with some good sauce, and a strawberry rhubarb cosmo. Banaloop makes its one misstep in the "do it yourself" portion of their menu. They let you mix chicken, beef, tofu or shrimp with any number of seven sauces. Our waiter, who was also a sous chef, solemnly shared the story of customer ordered shrimp with garlic gravy. Egads. So we only ordered the daily specials, which, thankfully, didn't let us make any ghastly combination mistakes. I will say, FWIW, the salad and vegetable options here are better than the meats. The meats are good, but the salads and soups are out of this world.

We heard very good things about Bandaloop, but we couldn't get a table for dinner because they were booked solid. We stopped by for lunch the next day, and the restaurant was nearly empty. This review is for their lunch - dinner there may be better. We started with the soup of the day, but it tasted gamey. We are rarely served something we can't eat, but this was one. The fish taco entree was just okay. An $11 appetizer was good but tiny. We were charged for the soup though we had mentioned the unappetizing gaminess. The waitress was friendly and efficient. I would probably try them for dinner based on word-of-mouth.

My wife and I had dinner at Bandaloop Friday, November 9th. The restaurant is tucked away; you would know not it unless you looked for it. The service was great; and the food extremely good. While I normally get meet, I tried their Kale dinner salad thinking I would behave and have something healthy for me, but boring to eat. I was in for a surprise as I had the best Kale I've eaten in my life; it was so good that if we didn't have plans for our other meals, I would have been back to Bandaloop for more (as well as to try their other dishes). If you are in the Kennebunk / Kennebunk Port area, I heartily recommend you stop by Bandaloop for dinner.

I've been here a handful of times and they have never disappointed me. One of those times was in the middle of the winter when I was delighted to discover they were open in the off-season, and they were packed with locals! That should tell you something. The service is pretty hit-or-miss. I have had outstanding service and standard service there, but never bad, and that's just fine. The food is good enough to make up for it, though, so they get 5 stars anyway. Ambiance is pretty neat. It kind of feels like someone took a piece of Disney's Splash Mountain ride and made it a little more hipster, gave it an organic, earthy vibe, then stuck it in Kennebunkport. I like that. My favorite is to sit on their now enclosed patio. I love how its decorated - very mellow, lots of windows, pretty green paint on the walls. The food is all organic and natural, and the flavors they combine to make their dishes sound weird as heck when you read them on the menu, but are brilliant and work perfectly in your mouth. FAVORITES: -Bandaloop Egg Rolls - these have something like feta and who knows what with a crazy raspberry sauce and taste like nothing I have ever had before. The first few bites, you'll think, "What the heck..." but that will turn into, "OH EM GEE" and you will want more. Awesome. -the homemade bread they bring you is just... yummy. -Mac & Cheese - to die for, but don't add the chicken. It's better plain w/just the broccoli and sun dried tomatoes. -Wasabi Crusted Salmon - this is my go-to and it's perfect every time. -whatever their beef/steak dish is - my husband is picky about his meat and loves this, plus they always make it just how he ordered it. -Margaritas - strong and tasty The sides are great, too. I love that they make their veggies still crunchy/crisp. It rocks. You simply can't go wrong here, and with their organic message, relaxed environment, and to die for food, I would say it's the best place to eat in the area, hands-down. Enjoy!

Loved everything - the twinkling lights on the ceiling, the music (Ray LaMontagne, "Gossip in the Grain"), the cocktails (Ruby Red Sunsets), and the food. Even the coffee was good. Appetizer highlight: Bandaloop Egg Rolls. These were a big hit. Gorgonzola + spinach + walnuts + magic dipping sauce. Unique and delicious. Entree #1 - Cheddar and Cavatappi: This is the best macaroni and cheese! Very grown up. Sun dried tomatoes + red pepper flakes + perfectly cooked broccoli + basil. I would eat this again right now. (Tip: The portion was generous. Consider splitting this with your dinner date.) Entree #2 - Pan Seared Halibut. Simple ingredients cooked to perfection. The halibut was served with rice and a light cranberry sauce. I really enjoyed this place and will visit again the next time I'm in the area.

Great spot tucked away but close to main Kennebunk Port strip. Bartender is at the top of his game. Seared tuna special with saffron rice was superb. Beet salad and the cold cucumber and coconut milk soup were unusually satisfying. Vibe is upscale casual with subdued lighting and a vaulted ceiling of exposed wood. And yes, Bandaloop is a nod to Tim Robbins and Jitterbug Perfume. Go for that reason alone.

In a word, "Wow." My wife and I had a change of plans that took us into Kennebunkport for dinner with reservations at Bandaloop based on favorable Yelp! reviews. The location is just a bit off the village, with bright red doors and a casual atmosphere. The decor consists of very earthy tones and gives the place a mellow feel, which suits the organic bent of their menu offerings. We started off with a few cocktails, my wife really enjoying the fresh raspberry bellini. I had a Belgian ale. All said, they had a great selection at the bar, with a good but not extensive wine list. As an appetizer, we got the steamed mussels in a roasted garlic and dijon sauce. While perhaps not as exotic as a place that specializes in such things, they were very plentiful and equally good and we were left with a pile of shells in just a few minutes' work. The timing could not have been better as the waitress (who was also excellent) brought over freshly baked bread. As regards the bread... I'm not a bread guy. I like bread, sure. I like it better with peanut butter and strawberry jelly in between a couple of slices. It's just not something I seek out or put much thought into. This bread... this was amazing. No butter, nothing: just on its own it was wonderfully flavorful. Combined with the creamy sauce that previously drenched the steamed mussels, it was all the better. For our entrees, I got the day's special, which were pan seared scallops with sweet potatoes, fresh (raw) spinach and peas, and a thai curry. My wife got an indian spiced tempeh with cashews and a mix of vegetables. Both were an incredible blend of flavors, and I found myself mixing and matching different proportions of the plate to vary the result. It was utterly decadent and absurdly delicious. The vegetarian dish (of which there were several) that my wife ordered was also great, and more than she could finish. So, yes, the food was great and the proportions more than adequate. Dessert was an incredible chocolate torte with raspberry coulis, though it was arranged more like a slice of chocolate cheesecake. The base looked like a standard graham cracker, but was surprisingly more like a toffee. All together it was rich, but not exceedingly so, and a fantastic way to finish off a great meal. All in all, we really loved this experience. The food was fresh and the presentation wonderful. We can't wait to return. Note: While they have a children's menu, it's probably not going to suit less adventurous eaters.

We ate here on the first night of our babymoon, and it set the tone for a wonderful weekend. The food was quite good, but the staff was so sweet, and we had such a good time in the lovely space that I can't resist five stars. Go for a very nice romantic meal, or it looks like it would be fun to hang at the bar!

My mom was in Kennebunkport for her birthday. I was in Los Angeles. I called to wish her well and ask what restaurant she planned on going to. She didn't know. After looking through several reviews, I decided, due to price point and generally positive feedback, that this would be a good place to send her and her birthday pal. Apparently, they had some difficulty finding the location, but asked a friendly local that steered them in the right direction. In short, my mom absolutely loved her dining experience! She said the food was awesome and the service even better. What have we learned from this? If mom is having a birthday in Kennebunkport, send her to Bandaloop.

Let me begin by saying I visit restaurants all across the country and sometimes say to myself wow, that was one of the best meals I have ever had. Truth be told this was easily a top 3 restaurant of my entire life hands down. We visited here for the first time this past weekend during a weekend get away and it was recommended from a front desk worker at our hotel. Our waiter was Shannon who was a great waiter and seemed very knowledgeable of their menu. Their beers menu is absolutely incredible filled with Organic beers. My wife had a German Beer made by Pinkus and I had an American Ale by The Maine Brewing Company. DELICIOUS beers! The women from our hotel recommended the egg rolls and oh my were they amazing. For our meals my wife chose the Mac N Cheese with Chicken, which was incredible, very rich and all natural. So tasty! I chose the Pork Chop which was easily the best Pork Chop i have ever had in my entire life. I felt like when I cut it, I was cutting into a filet mignon, I highly recommend this! The best part about this place is the open style kitchen they have. You can see everything that is going on in the kitchen and can tell how clean it is, how hard these guys work, and the team work that goes on in there. There were only two guys working, one might have been the owner, and they were working so hard. Right on guys! Keep up the great work! Next visit we will surely be here!

This is a cute restaurant in downtown Kennebunkport. Staff is friendly and the place itself feels like an old barn. Rustic charm and no frills dining works in this upscale beach resort. We started with the kimchi (very spicy cabbage served with beets). I suspect this was good for my heart, but not as good as the real thing. We ordered the 4 small plates for dinner: grilled cheese (salty); Mac & cheese (excellent); shrimp tacos (so so I was told); and avocado (too much wasabi). Portions are large and for the most part all is well. My only complaint is the menu is a strange mix of Mexican (guacamole), Korean (kimchi), American (grilled cheese), and seafood (fish tacos). Try to stick to one cuisine, else you'll get a stomach ache.

OK, 2nd Yelp review, not sure if that's bad form or not... Great, spontaneous mid-week getaway. Mid-summer, perfect night, dining al fresco. Only drawback - two nearby tables of nightmare parents/children. Really folks, it ain't that tough - teach your kids to act the way you'd like all kids to act in a restaurant, and have the stones (for once) to make it stick, which means being willing to walk out if they don't behave! But I digress.... For such a funky, relaxed place, you have o admire Bandaloop's consistency (a function of discipline) - I've NEVER had a bad meal or dining experience here. Organic menu? Gotta be ready to try something new. Bottom line? Ready to shake up the work-week and embrace the carpe-diem thing for a night out? Bandaloop will not disappoint. Well done

Yum, yum, yum. I made a reservation here per the recommendation of the Maine Stay Inn. I was not disappointed. We sat at the high tables. I liked these because there was a little more privacy. The seats in here are set up a little like the Cheesecake Factory - where you'd be pretty close to the other couples. I noticed that they were not seating people on top of each other, but I'd imagine this place fills up in the summer. I started my dinner with a nice glass of Cabernet and my man had a Manhattan. We had the crab cakes for our appetizer, they were really good. They had a nice sauce (wasabi/maple) and even had a few peas mixed in the crab cakes. They were a little different than any crab cake I've had in the past, but oh so yummy. For dinner, I had the warm spinach salad with Maine Shrimp. The shrimp were the tiny little swirly ones. I usually l like mine a little bigger, but if it's local, I'm happy. The meal had a good flavor. Not the best dish I've ever had, but I'd give it four stars. My boyfriend had the Salmon. I tried it and it was great, he loved it as well. The plate came with mixed veggies and rice. The meal was well presented and very colorful because of all the veggies. Service was friendly. Yummmmmmmmy.

I have never met someone so ill-suited for the service industry as the host that failed to host us last night. After waiting for 10 minutes, she finally came to the front of the restaurant just to bark at us that there wouldn't be a table available for an hour and a half. She was then shocked that we wanted to put our name in and wait. She told us to sit at this table near the door where we could order drinks but not food. Okay. After waiting 25 minutes at the table without anyone's attention, I asked the host (who was running around the restaurant) who we could order drinks from. She said they were really busy (duh) and I should just go to the bar. Okay. So I go to the bar to order a drink, and to my surprise find two seats available. Wasn't that the hostess's job to tell us that there were seats available at the bar instead of watching us sit uncomfortably for an hour and a half? The bartender was much better at maintaining a smile and grace on a busy Sunday evening. She made us delicious peach margaritas, and we ended up eating at the bar (just so I didn't have to deal with the hostess's incompetence). I loved the menu and their focus on fresh, organic, and local ingredients. But the food, unfortunately, was underwhelming. We started with a very bland artichoke dip served with Costco-style chips. Then we had the promising avocado-crabcakes, which were decent but nothing to write home about. Finally, the mac & cheese had a disturbing bite and felt like an amateur dish you learn to cook in home-ec. The venue itself is adorable, and deserves more than what they've managed to pull together.

Gorgeous, sensible portions of delicious organic food; the chef is very skilled and I reveled in the flavor combinations of everything I tried. The Vermont cheddar quesadilla was nothing short of melted cheese perfection. The organic roasted beet salad was simply to die for! Unfortunately, though the service was decent, the place was filled with noisy and obnoxious tourists, made worse by the terrible acoustics of the room in which we were seated. If it's busy and you have sensitive ears, save it for another time.

We made our way to Bandaloop on a Friday night in November and had a fabulous experience. We were inclined to like it from the get go, as the space is wonderful, the wine list quirky, and good and the restaurant's philosophy emphasizes locally sourced veggies and meat. Everything was fresh and top quality. We would heartily recommend. We had kale salad, beet salad, tofu satay and mussels all to start. In truth two salads and two starters was too much food for two hungry people (we wished later we'd split one more starter or a single main instead of adding mains around scallops in one case and duck breast in the other). But the flavors and textures were unbelievably good, Two sauces for the satay, fresh kale with a sesame dressing, beets with fabulous local goat cheese and arugula and mussels with a broth of, I think, coconut milk and basil, oh, and warn bread with a hint of rosemary - all superb! We sat at a table for two across from the open kitchen, and more than once I considered standing and applauding. Go! Enjoy!

My favorite restaurant in Kennebunkport! Fresh, local, vegetarian friendly (Though I love my meat). I have relations who are crazy hippies, God bless em, and they always bring their own food to restaurants when we go out. This place, they will actually order off the menu! Try the Quesadilla with the candied jalapenos, and their version of mac and cheese! Also has creme brulee to die for.

Great little restaurant. The food was fantastic!! Very creative too. After eating in a number of more expensive restaurants in Boston, NYC, and Kennebunk, over the last week of our vacation, it was a surprise and joy to finally find some really fantastically flavorful food at Bandaloop. Best dinner we've had on this trip. The wait staff was great too. We had the Kale salad (yummy and very creative), the mac and cheese pasta, and the tofu with two sauces. The sauces really made the dish! Tried to get the recipe but I guess they are keeping their secrets.

Just tried Bandaloop for the first time and wow. This is definitely going on my list of places to go back to next time in the Kennebunk area. A very cool space and vibe. The food was really amazing. I got the Kale salad with grilled chicken and a delicious peanut sauce. We also got the spring rolls with gorgonzola which were excellent and the garlic soup. For dessert we got a pumpkin pound cake which was one of the best desserts we've had in a while. We wanted to lick the plate clean but refrained due to being in public. The service was great. it was not overly crowded and servers gave just the right amount of attention.

Amazing. This place is very cool and cozy as far as the atmosphere goes. The wait staff was super friendly and made you feel like they had time to talk to you and explain the menu but not overboard. It was perfect. I highly recommend the following: Starter: Cauliflower bisque with apple and almonds. This was made with a coconut milk. So good, dip your bread in this, you won't be disappointed. The chicken entree: this had an unreal pistachio cilantro pesto. I could eat this all day long, so freaking good. When I say so freaking good I mean the best thing I tasted all weekend. Sesame Seared Sea Scallops: this dish comes with a fantastic sauce mixed in with noodles, fresh spinach, asparagus and tons of other veggies. Don't forget to get a mojito. So good!

Love this restaurant!! This is my first pick for a nice evening out. Always make sure to have a reservation as many other people love this spot as well. Recently we started with the Bandaloop egg rolls with gorgonzola cheese which is always a treat! For dinner we had the chicken breast entree with Yukon potatoes and filet mignon also with Yukon potatoes. Both were absolutely delicious and the portions filled us to the point that we couldn't order dessert no matter how much we wanted to. Overall another lovely experience and definitely a spot that we will continue to spend our special evenings out!

My wife and I came to town for our 6th anniversary and when we asked our inn keepers (at The Captain Fairfield Inn) about a good restaurant, Bandaloop was quickly recommended. The atmosphere was fun but allowed for plenty of privacy at our small table. We both happened to be in the mood for steak so we ordered the same thing but neither of us regrets the decision. We enjoyed a salmon-artichoke-cheese spread with wanton chips as an appetizer (would definitely get again) and for dessert we shared a delicious crème brûlée and a fresh fruit crisp. The staff was very friendly but the waitress wasn't around as frequently as we had hoped.

Extremely inventive! Now anyone who knows me knows I'm not an adventurous eater - I can't be because my stomach has "issues." My friend got a salad with popcorn on it! Can't say I loved it, but the flavors were an entertaining circus in your mouth! Then I had the steak... I know, I know, but it had Gorgonzola cheese - a risk for me;) And my peep had the fried haddock with salmon breadcrumbs. Great meal! Great place!

What's not to love about Bandaloop. It's in a great location right off the main strip, has an awesome rustic and earthy vibe, friendly staff, a commitment to local and sustainable foods with EVERYTHING made in-house and most importantly delicious food. We headed there for dinner one evening while in town and were immediately torn about what to order from the menu. There were just too many good options, great for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. We started with the egg rolls which were stuffed with spinach, gorgonzola, walnuts, red onion and served with a side of sweet and sour port reduction. There were about four bite sized pieces. I hate gorgonzola cheese and these were delicious. Oh, there was also a bread basket that came with olive oil freshly salted and peppered. It could be forgotten. For the entree I ordered the quinoa crusted tofu in a sweet and sour blood orange pomegranate reduction, which I got with grilled asparagus and subbed the rice for extra veggies. The tofu was delicious, lightly crisp on the outside thanks to the quinoa and not greasy at all. The asparagus was grilled to perfection and I was very pleased with the mixed veggies which were done al dente and included broccoli, fresh green beans, squash, carrots, and peppers. The only thing I wasn't a fan of on my plate was the actual sauce. My husband got the all natural chicken breast that came perfectly cooked over a molasses and blueberry barbeque sauce. It also had some goat cheese, mashed potatoes, and the same mixed veggies I described above. The chicken was moist and well seasoned. The sauce, again got mixed reviews. I think it had chipotles in it and the smoky flavor was a little overpowering for me. We both loved the mashed potatoes, which still had some lumps! If we weren't so stuffed we would've gotten dessert. In a land of lobster shacks this is a definite must to change it up.

Every time I come here, I want to hug my plate. The food is incredible! Bandaloop is a wonderfual, unique, amazing little restaurant in a corner of the shopping district of Kennebunkport. My wife and I have thanked the dining gods every day since we found it! Every time we come here, we're amazed, again, at the delicious food (and drinks) the chefs dream up. I would eat an entire bowl of just their sauces as an entree. Bandaloop is worth driving out of your way and a change in plans.

This restaurant was wonderful. Unique & very non-chain, non-touristy spot. Great ambience that was very unique which matched the menu choices. You must have the egg rolls. They are not Asian fare but filled with Gorgonzola, walnuts, Spinach and onions. You then dip them into a wine/Balsamic reduction sauce. So good. For dinner, get anything but get their famous twin sauces- straight off best Cheesecake Factory salad- their twin sauces are amix of homemade peanut sauce and cilantro pesto sauce. It's truly brilliant and you might want to look your plate. The wine list is small but has some nice choices and the drink menu is inventive and yummy! Serving staff was great as well! We would have eaten here twice if we could have.

We parked on nearby Temple street (there is no obvious parking area) and walked the block to Bandaloop. Having made a reservation earlier in the afternoon, Sarah and I were seated promptly by the friendly hostess. After ordering a bottle of a previously unfamiliar white wine (it was very good but I've forgotten the name again), we enjoyed a basket of their freshly made bread, with savory olive oil for dipping. We started with the special soup (roasted garlic roasted tomato bisque) and the wilted spinach salad. The soup was very good; the salad was outstanding. Besides the spinach, it had artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, red onions, and goat cheese crumbles -- all of which were slightly warmed and set on the cold spinach. Inventive and delicious. We then moved onto our main courses. As previously explained, you can pair your main dish with a sauce, and they come served with a starch and a veggie. I had the panko-crusted haddock special, which came with a lemon/horseradish-in-sour-cream sauce. It was very good. Sarah had the grilled shrimp and chose the green curry sauce. Also very good. Both came with sticky rice and mixed fresh vegetables. We skipped the desert course, and opted for ice cream cones at Aunt Marie's, across the street. The atmosphere was lively. The crowd consisted of more locals than tourists, which is rare in downtown Kennebunkport. And it was a very charming interior space, reminiscent of a former barn. Our waitress was efficient, and down to business, but in a friendly way. Definitely check it out if you are looking for something a little different in Kennebunkport!

Great atmosphere, really inviting interior and a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. Scallops were fantastic and the mixed vegetables that came with it were done perfectly, not like the usual veg sides, which are typically an afterthought. We also had a beet salad and I added spicy sausage. I would refer to it as the menu does - beet and goat cheese salad, but there was the tiniest amount of goat cheese I've ever seen on a plate...about the size of a small grape. And $20 for that small dish wasn't worth it, although the beets/sausage were excellent. The most disappointing part of the meal was the chicken satay appetizer. The sauces were tasty, if a bit too sweet, but a couple of pieces of the generous amount of chicken were way underdone. Pink inside. I'm not necessarily up on the latest food trends, but I don't think we've gone to medium-rare chicken yet. All-in-all, though, the food was good, some spectacular (scallop entree), and the place is lovely.

Echoing much of what KH said, we had a nice dinner at Bandaloop Service was over the top awesome -- attentive, sincere and friendly. Everyone around us seemed to be really enjoying themselves and enjoying their dinner, which contributed to the vibe in the restaurant. The appetizer that is a take on guacamole -- asian inspired with wonton chips and wasabi -- is amazing. Our entrees came out a bit overcooked, my salmon was pretty dry and my bf's steak was kind of a mess. A great spot to check out when you're ready for something that doesn't feel like a cheesy tourist trap! Reservations recommended

This place is more 4 1/2 than 4. Enjoyed a nice day on the beach and then came here for dinner with several family members. We got to try quite a few items. I've only listed the ones that I can remember. Appetizers: - Spinach salad - Nice flavor and fresh, but nothing that sets it apart from others. Just a good salad. - Steamed mussels - Large portion, good flavor. Roasted garlic was a nice touch. - Quesadilla - Decent flavor. Nothing subtle here. - Bread - VERY good. Great flavor. Entrees: - Shrimp tacos - Good flavor and a touch spicy. Nice dish. - Mac and Cheese - Had a small bite. Tasty but nothing spectacular. - Seared sushi-grade tuna - This is what I ordered. A daily special, so not on their permanent menu. This is of the best fish meals I've ever had. Cooked perfectly medium-rare. Mango chutney was good. Our server was friendly and attentive despite the place being full. Bus boys joked around with our kids while clearing our appetizer plates. They did a good job accommodating our large group that included a couple of kids. I'd go back if given the opportunity.

Bandaloop is a terrific restaurant in the center of Kennebunkport. Like the setting, Bandaloop's menu is casual yet inviting. Expect a focus on seafood with a flair for the dramatic in flavor and presentation. Daily specials include everything from seared tuna with asian slaw to crusted rack of lamb with wasabi smashed potatoes. Definitely a destination when in this summer resort hamlet!

Great atmosphere and the food was excellent. I highly recommend the quesadilla appetizer (not your everyday quesadilla) and my wife loved the wasabi encrusted salmon. Nice cocktails too...

We did have a good meal. The menu said that they would "add, avoid or substitute" things, but they wouldn't take the cream out of the mussel appetizer and substitute it with white wine. I wouldn't have never asked if the menu didn't say that they would. The atmosphere was indeed loud. The service was just ok. That is why I am giving them three stars instead of four.

Went on Saturday night with my wife at about 8pm. Went in, said hi to the bartender, who asked if we needed a table, we said yes, and waited for someone to seat us. They weren't too busy, with several empty tables in view. Lots of waitstaff passed us with no eye contact. Time is passing, and passing....maybe the hostess is in the toilet? Don't one of these servers want a table? Just grab two menus and seat us? We don't look like a fannie pack and t-shirt tourist couple. We were ready to have a nice leisurely dinner, a few drinks and tip generously...as more time passed I could tell my wife was getting annoyed, and no matter how good the food was it would not outweigh leaving us there for 8 long minutes. I turned to the bartender, who was busy the whole time talking to a friend across the bar, opened my hands and said, "that's it, we're done." And walked out. (Alison's Restaurant was great, by the way) Yelp reviews brought me there. Now I hope my Yelp review will take someone else away.

We dined here one evening during our stay. Everything was delicious. My husband had the mussels which he raved about as well as the wasabi ahi tuna. I had the haddock which was perfectly cooked and pound cake for desert. The food was delicious and the service was great in spite of the server having many, many tables to look after. We would certainly go back!

SO delicious! Walking in the door I knew it would be a great dinner experience. Everything on the menu was appealing and finally made a game time decision to go with the soup du jour - tandoori coconut (vegan) - and Maine shrimp tacos, both were delicious, I'd go back for either and ANYthing else on the menu. The waitress was intuitive and informed, a pleasure for sure. Looking forward to bringing others back with me!

I really enjoyed this place. Not many restaurants in the area are as unique or use as many local and organic ingredients as these guys so it's definitely a treat to mix it up a bit. The atmosphere is cool and hip and the open kitchen style adds a neat little touch. I always recommend Bandaloop

We visited Bandaloop on Sept 10, 2010 with another out of state friend, and found the food to be very good quality, tasty and innovative . We shared some choices, one dish being the Vt cheddar macaroni and cheese. It was exceptional and the best any of us had ever had. Wish they'd share their recipe! Other selections were excellent - I had a salad that had organic beets in it, which was 5 stars. My husband had the quesadilla, our friend had a soup with red pepper which was a bit spicy. We hope to get back to test more dishes, as soon as we can. The ambience is quaint and centrally located, and the service was very good.

Bandaloop is by far our favorite restaurant in Kennebunkport. It is casual so you don't have to dress up at all, while the food was of gourmet quality. I would go back here again.Great, great food for vegetarians and meat eaters alike.

It's hard to go wrong at a great place like this. How many restaurants can appeal to both Carnivores and Vegans? If you happen to be in Kennebunkport, definitely give this restaurant a try. Located in the heart of the town's main village, it has a cool, hip feel to it when you step inside. seating upstairs or down, with limited seating outside. You'll need a reservation in the summer months. The summer corn gazpacho was outstanding. For main courses, you can choose between pork, beef, tofu, chicken, or fish (with a few choices of each), then you choose one of six tasty sauces to go on top of it. Mix and match. Desserts are worth it too and the service was friendly and attentive. I'd go back in a second.

Had a delicious meal here during a weekend trip. It came highly recommended by the folks who run the bed and breakfast that we stayed at. If the locals love it, then we love it, too! I recall that it's owned and run by someone w/ last name "Lee" so I wondered if he might be Asian. I was wrong...if anyone has last name "Lee" in this neck of the woods, that person probably is not Asian. Heh.

Stopped in for dinner - place was booked solid but room at the bar which was fine with us. Nice bar made of cement and, even though the restaurant was busy, it never felt crowded. Nice service from the bartender. Good organic beer. Wife had a couple of their cocktails which turned out to be very expensive ($13.50 each). Started with apps: Avocado crab cakes were a nice change from the "usual" crabcakes. A little dry and would have liked a bit more of the aioli on the plate but still good. The "egg rolls" were also good and different - if stuffed just a bit more would have been more flavorful. Wife had the haddock encrusted with... (I can't remember). Fish was cooked very nice - the crust tended to fall off the fish. I had the rib eye. This was great. Ordered medium rare and came out perfect. It came with an onion-gorganzola cream - I initially thought it might not go with the steak but it was to die for and added so much. I Could have just drank it straight. Came with a yukon mashed potato (I'm a sucker for mashed potato). Overall a very nice place with really good food with a nice, varied, menu that's a change from the regular cookie cutter Maine coast tourist trap places. Will be my go-to place in Kennebunk.

Atmosphere was great (and a good counterpoint to that of the elegant White Barn Inn, where we dined the night before) and service was friendly and good (at bar and at table). Favored by locals, which is a good thing. Shared drinks with a local artist and the next day a gallery owner told us she was a regular. Food was okay and did not live up to expectations. We did hear the bartender say that the owner/chef was sick the night we were there and the kitchen was manned by 2 chefs/cooks who were a bit overwhelmend. Still, the asian influenced quacamole was a neat variation for the first couple of bites but then we realized that we like regular guacamole much better (if it aint broke...). The biggest problem with the dish was that the "won ton" chips that accompanied were extremely greasy, to the point of leaving grease on your fingers. Even most mom-and-pop Mexican restaurants don't fail that test--a reald disappointment. My wife had the wilted spinach salad and loved it. I had the quesadilla (recommendec by the WBI waiter) and it was very good. I rarely order chicken breast out, but did this time and ti was fine. The peanut sauce was good, the pesto unmemorable. This was a competent chicken dish, but there is only so much you can do with a basic grilled chicken breast (which is why I rarely order it out; I can duplicate it easily at home). My wife's rib-eye was the low point of the meal. More fat/grissle than appropriate. Overcooked to between medium and medium well, when she ordered it medium rare (they offered to replace it, but the kitchen was so behind that she did not want to wait) and, perhaps as a consequence, tough. No way a steak should be this poor at this kind of place for this kind of price.

Been here 4 times already this summer and have not been disappointed. Man, those egg rolls are delicious....looks like they try to buy local whenever possible and use many organic ingredients right down to the delicious Peak Organic Nut Brown Ale on tap.

this little gem of a restaurant is "hella good". i assumed that when i moved out of small-town maine, out to the wild wild west and got to getting to be californicated(ing), that there i would find a plethora of fantabulous little restaurants and forget about the little guys back east. not so. last week i visited my family in kennebunk, and met a friend for dinner here one evening. we ate off the late night menu ... cheese quesadillas and steamed mussels in a creamy garlic broth... made simply and simply delicious. with our appetizers, we gulped down a bottle of california pinot noir. i wish i could have fit bandaloop in my suitcase and brought it back here to sacramento.

Bandaloop is an excellent restaurant frequented by the locals but also popular with anyone who is lucky enough to find it. It is a bit hidden but we heard great things so decided to give it a try. Although it is in the epicenter of Kennebunkport tourism (Dock Square), it is not a tourist trap and does not even have lobster on the menu (at least the night we were there). The focus is on serving organic, all natural and local Maine products whenever possible. But this does not mean it is all tofu and bean sprouts. The menu is varied, something to suit everyone. We had a the mussels (a meal on its own), sea scallops (fantastic) and a wonderful soup. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert. The barman makes excellent cocktails (I had a cosmo) , they also have a variety of beers and a wine list. The atmosphere is modern and it has a nice ambiance, interesting decor and subdued lighting make for a relaxing evening. Service was great. I think this is their 3rd year, they are open all year round in an area where many of the businesses are only open during tourist season, so they are obviously doing something right!
