Lucky Garden in Hallowell, Maine has the best Sesame Chicken of any Chinese Restaurant I've ever been to. All of their food is good but the sesame chicken is to die for. We usually do takeout but if you want to dine in their buffet is excellent. It's not an overly massive selection so they seen to be able to keep everything hot and fresh most of the time. I love that when I'm waiting for a takeout order the owner always seats me at a table and gives me a cup of hot tea...VERY nice touch! The owner is always there at the front of the restaurant and he is very friendly and conversational.

Let me preface this by saying I hate buffets. After working in the food service industry and taking Serv Safe, you just kind of get grossed out by the idea of buffets. So I walked in, told my boyfriend in no uncertain terms that I was not getting buffet, and got a menu from the waitress. I watched over the top of the menu as the buffet was constantly replenished with hot, steaming food from the kitchen and dutifully attended to. The key to a good buffet is turnaround. When I can see that time and temperature control are actually being maintained, I will eat buffet. Seeing that there was no dinner menu and reasoning that any leftovers would sit in the car for an uncomfortable length of time (we were seeing a movie after) I decided that maybe the buffet wasn't a bad idea after all. I sampled most of the things on the buffet and they were good, solid dishes. The egg roll was lacking something that I can't quite put my finger on, but we left satisfied. A+ on the stickless chicken teriyaki though. Oh, and the interior, instead of being really tacky like a lot of Chinese restaurants are, is gorgeous with natural wooden beam ceilings and walls. Strings of lights make it seem like a celebration without being tacky. Overall, a lovely place.

There aren't to many Chinese places that stand out, but this place is great! The setting here is laid back and has a great view of the river. Food quality is top notch and plenty of cold beverage selections! Our waiter was really nice and did a great job taking care of us. Overall good food in a great setting. I will definitely be going back!

Tasty Chinese food with wonderful Kennebec River views. We brought our 3 kids for the luncheon buffet, and the staff was very friendly and accomodating. We'll definitely be back!

Great Chinese food buffet. The variety isn't huge, but what they do offer is done perfectly. Really great value. The sesame chicken is really good as are the dumplings. Super friendly staff. The owner's seem to know all their regulars' names which is a good sign in my book. Also, it has a really nice view of the river and a full bar. Love going here whenever we visit my sister-in-law in Augusta.

Awesome service and amazing food. The restaurants affords a marvellous view of the Kennebec River. The variety of dishes and the affordability make this establishment a delightful choice in Asian cuisine. Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in Augusta.

I recently moved to the Boston area, and I was warned that Chinese down here sucks the bag. I crossed my fingers and toes hoping the rumors were false... and I cried salty, salty tears once trial and error dashed all my hopes into a billion pieces. I've eaten at a trillion chinah dinahs in Maine... Oriental Jade, Great Wall, and many others-- but Lucky Garden is THE best, without question. Want a crab rangoon as sweet and as crisp as a fried angel's wing? How about fried rice that is fresh, fluffy, and actually has VEGGIES in it? *gasp* I recommend you give "Lucky G's" a visit. Their service is wonderful, food is always fresh, and their ginger chicken is to die for.

Pretty standard American-style Chinese fare. Not bad, but nothing special.

Whenever we go to Maine we usually eat at this low-key Chinese buffet restaurant. The prices is reasonable, the food is fresh and tasty. As far as these buffet places go, this is one of the better ones I've been to, and the quality is consistently good. Nice location, overlooking the river, right in town.

This is hands down the best Chinese food in the area. Not that there's much in the way of competition, but still. The restaurant is tucked away behind a store on the riverfront. The first time we ate there I wasn't expecting much, but I was surprised at both the quality of food and the service. The restaurant generally (always?) has a buffet available, and it is a good value. They never let food sit out too long and all of the dishes are kept full. The food itself is quite good. The general gaus chicken is the right blend of spicy and sweet, the lo mein well spiced and cooked, and the mu shu chicken is perfect. More often than not, we do carry out. With the exception of New Year's Eve, I have never had to wait- food is ready to go in 20 minutes.

I went there for a weekend buffet and was very pleased. The building on the outside is not aesthetically pleasing like the the rest of downtown Hallowell but the inside was very cozy. It was a little dated but it worked. It was also very clean in the dining area. The silverware was a little old. The drinking glasses we got were a little foggy and the teapot that was brought to our table had some wear and tear on the outside. This held the place back from being 5 stars in my eyes. The rest of it was amazing. Like I said atmosphere was great, food was incredible especially considering I went there for a buffet and did not expect the food to be so fresh. Service was great and friendly and it was a steal for the price and quality. I will be going back many times and will be looking to give back that last star!

Always my go to spot when I'm anywhere close to hallowell. This is hands down the best Chinese food in the state! I am obsessed with the crab rangoon which are bursting with sweet and creamy crab and cooked to crispy perfection. The lunch and dinner buffet is a small selection of everyone's favorites including fried rice sesame lo mein chicken teriyaki chicken and more. The dumplings are a flavorful soft delight. The drinks are always a bit strong but great especially the volcano bowl served with flames. The service is phenomenal. Very attentive Never an empty glass or plate. The tea is always piping hot and brewed perfectly.

The atmosphere is pleasant and the food is just standard fare. The buffet had lots of choices. The staff was nice, but no one offered to take a beverage order. They did provide a pot of tea without being asked. The restaurant was full with a line of folks waiting for tables. We didn't get a chance to sit and just visit with our party.

I loved the spicy green beans. The entree was the perfect size and just the right level of heat. I liked the dining room and the people watching there. I'd love to go back again.

Never thought I'd give five stars to a Chinese restaurant but they deserve it. The food on the weekend buffet was amazing, it was hot, fresh and constantly being checked and refilled. Service was fast and friendly. Drinks from the bar were delicious. This is on the top of my list of best Chinese in Maine.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
