After a 4th of July vacation spent eating mostly hot dogs, I stopped here with some friends while doing some shopping on our way back home. I decided to "be good" and get a veggie wrap, knowing that it would probably be bland, boring and unfulfilling. I was handed the most massive wrap I've ever seen, and delighted to find that it was DELICIOUS. I'm not kidding--it was the most incredible wrap I've ever eaten, and I wish I could eat one for lunch EVERY day. There were pickles and a light dressing (maybe Italian?) and a slice of cheese. So good. Everyone else at the table was equally excited by their food. The only reason they didn't get the full five stars is because they didn't double-check to see if I wanted cheese (I would have said no) and they also forgot the order of fries for one of my friends and, although they were apologetic and eventually refunded their order and gave them fries, they had to be reminded twice and it took 20 mins to actually receive the fries. But other than that, the experience was damn near perfect.

I've been to this location a few times and every time worse than the other. The service is terrible. Not one employee looks happy to be helping you. They are insanely slow. They weren't too busy and I waited twenty minutes for an Italian. I watched in frustration as the girl making sandwiches kept leaving her station for 5 minutes at a time. As for the sorry excuse for an Italian sandwich, it was terrible. Stale bread, thrown together carelessly, and there wasn't any salt, pepper, or oil. Yup, dry as a bone. Save yourself the aggravation and eat elsewhere. Everyone in there should be fired.

The food sucks here and the service is worse. An Italian sub to them is one slice of ham and American cheese. Legit disgusting. Oh, and my sandwich had a noodle in it. You're better off eating elsewhere.

Got a ham sandwich with one slice of ham. I mean come on. The other stuff inside was decent but a sad sandwich

Ordered the famous Amato's lobster roll in Portland l, Windham, south Portland $9.95 and they are always very big as they should be and very good ! I went to Freeport this past week and the lobsters roll was $1.00+ more and 1/2 the size ! Come on Amato's ! Keep in consistent with all the stores. I understand Freeport is a tourist trap and I get the $$ increase however should still get a full sandwich.

I have been a lover of Amatos in Portland forever. Was in Freeport with friends and bragged about how awesome the Italians are at Amatos. They arrived ahead of me and ordered Italians. They were given ham and cheese. When they spoke to the manager about this she argued that ALL of the sandwiches listed are Italian and they should have been more specific. This all happened before I got there. I go up to order after hearing all this and make a point of ordering exactly what was on the sign - a Classic Italian. One of the other workers who was remaking my friends sandwiches says to the manager taking my order, "at least someone knows how to order". To which I replied "those are for my friends - they warned me". I do not recommend eating here.

This is a good, cheaper place to get a good meal in town. Their portions are large and tasty

Food was pretty good, but not good enough to make up for the terrible customer service and bad attitude of the employees. The manager copped an attitude when we complained that we weren't given what we ordered then we overheard the two employees joking about it later. Will not be back.

Average chain pizza. Be prepared to wait atleast 20 minutes or more for a pizza! We thought this would be a quick option for lunch, it definitely is not. Doesn't seem very efficient. Other than that pizza is ok and was good for a cheaper lunch in Freeport.

Not worth a review or much. We went in, there were a few other patrons there. No one had food. Workers had no idea what was in stock or out of stock. Seemed most items not there. A restaurant with out food? The orders were coming out wrong. Baking a sandwich actually cost more than one that wasn't baked. They actually asked a customer for the difference because he was not charged the baked price. I think the entire staff was baked. Maybe that was the real issue. Sandwiches took forever to come out of the kitchen. It was like a bad Cheech and Chong skit.

Used this Amato's for catering a business function. They were very helpful and the food was perfectly prepared. I will definitely use again

Love this spot! Just discovered it this summer. Going back for our 4th time as it's half way to our destination. Great pizza & subs and awesome crepes. And it's pretty fast & healthy with ample parking. I highly recommend.

Nice quality pizza - sub shop chain. In Manhattan it would be 2 or 3 stars but for Maine it's about as good as it gets. If you you are in the area a safe choice to drop by for a casual bite to eat.

So you're not from Maine and you're in Freeport shopping at all the outlet stores looking for some wicked good deals. You've already spent most of your vacation hogging down lobster and seafood until you can't stand the thought of having another meal staring back at you. You think, "Hey, a sandwich would be nice!" Well, then you're in luck! Amatos is a Maine staple. (You can trust this statement, I'm from Maine.DO NOT be fooled by other "italian" sandwiches, this is the Real Deal. Multiple locations throughout Maine.) So order up a large italian sandwich - double it up if you're famished from all that shopping - order a side of Pazzo bread and grab a whoppie pie for the road. Prepare for excellence! The trick is you have to eat it ASAP. An Italian waits for no man. It's a bit messy, but I have faith you will master this. Italian = the best, simplest, most wonderful bread filled with ham, cheese, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, wicked sour pickles, salty black olives and is topped with salt, pepper and oil. (Personally I skip the onions, green peppers, pepper and oil -- but that's my childhood pickyness coming out to eat) MANGIA!

Mediocre pizza but not a bad place to sit, watch some tv and eat some pie, if you are willing to take a chance on the lack of sanitary procedures. The last time my husband and I ate there, we had to wait quite a while for our pizza to bake, and we sat toward the front with a direct view of the prep area. Well, one worker was at the cash register taking money with bare hands, and then went over to continue chopping veggies for a sub, with the same bare hands! No gloves or washing! That same worker went to the register several times handling money, and then back to handling food with bare hands and never once washed hands or used gloves. Very poor sanitation procedures. Other workers used gloves as they were making pizzas. We won't be back.

On vacation, stopped by 4th of July. This Amato's has no charm nor is it unique. I've been in other Amato's that were much better. Food was mediocre and service was poor. You would think they would learn from previous holidays. They were somewhat busy and there was no attempt to satisfy customers. Employees doing a lot of watching and waiting while processing orders. I think it is just poorly managed. 2nd bad experience and last time I go there. Tables were filthy. I had to ask for a bottle of cleaner to wipe down the disgusting table. The employee was flippant an pointed to a cabinet, "in there". Other customers started passing around the spray bottle. You would think that would be the queue for someone to wipe down the tables and deal with the trash. Nope. Tables were ignored by employees and poorly arranged, cramped, and difficult to retrieve your food when they yell your name. Not enough aisle space with people sitting in chairs. Restrooms filthy. Pizza and sandwich mediocre.. I wanted something quick, decently priced and good. I can't say any of my expectations were met.. I realized there is a Subway a few minutes away, kicking myself. Yes, I would go to a Subway instead of this Amato's. They do not sell beer or wine, even with beer signs out front. Served minors and license suspended? The juice is not worth the squeeze here. Convenience is not enough to go to this shell of an Amato's. Mcd's is not that far away either.

If you think of Freeport as a giant shopping mall, this is rather better than typical mall food. The prices are good and the serving sizes are large, so it's a nice break after a hard day of outlet shopping...
