Great roadside diner experience. I sat on the kitchen's side of the restaurant. Everyone was extremely nice and even entertaining. Loved the Eggs Benedict with crab meat. The poached eggs could be a bit fluffier. The low prices make this place even better. However, they do not accept credit cards :-(

This place was so good that we had to come back twice on our week-long vacation. Their homemade bread is light, fluffy, and flavorful. And their ham is real ham-steak: thick, sweet, juicy, and perfect on its own or in an omelet.

For the price point you can't beat the food at Martha's. A Yelp search brought us here on our way to Acadia and wanting a quick, hearty, inexpensive breakfast. The only gripe I have is that the server suggested I try the corned beef omelette instead of the ham. My mother had the ham in her eggs and it was wonderful, just like childhood ham from down south. The corned beef was ok but I would definitely suggest that ham first. Their blueberry pancakes were very tasty and not too sweet (a frequent pet peeve of mine). Also, it is well worth it to pay a bit extra for your bread option and order their homemade biscuit. All in all we really got our money's worth, fast friendly service, full tummies and leftovers for the dog.

This is an extraordinary place! Martha greets you when you arrive! The bread is homemade. You can get everything from a quiche to a bacon sandwich. The place is very nostalgic. The waitresses are very friendly and the food is served very fast. This place is a must stop for breakfast when you are heading into or leaving Bar Harbor

Found Martha's because of you Yelpers and you all hit the mark! I definitely would have passed on this place based on the "cover" of this book, but the reviews made me eager to read and my family and I were very fulfilled. I had the Trenton omelette (a little but of everything) and my wife had one with vegetables no cheese. Kids raved about chocolate chip pancakes and French toast. Wife's and mine came with potatoes and bread or for an extra .75 we could get homemade bread or biscuits. We chose the biscuits and my kids who were already on carb overload wanted some, too. The omelette were really tasty with a thinned out egg and plentiful fillings of meat and vegetables. It was not cheese heavy. The kids' pancakes were extremely good and I had to finish my daughter's. "The pancakes were too big for me to finish but my daddy could!" Service was always with a smile and everyone who was working there really seemed to be having a good time. I even ran into the owner and our waitress at the supermarket next door when I was in line and had a nice conversation about how great Maine is. Martha's is worth a return visit! $41 for 4 for breakfast not including tip.

We searched high and low in Ellsworth for Creamed Chipped Beef and found a fabulous one here at Martha's served on 2 bisquits !!! Packed at 10am on a Sunday, we sat at the counter and were politely entertained by Martha, Mr. Martha (I think) and the kitchen staff. Dare I forget the grilled raspberry muffin along with my eggs and sausage. All for under $20 (excluding tip). Would highly recommend this as one of the go to places in Ellsworth for breakfast!

  • Briggid L.

Awesome breakfast. Husband had the chipped beef on biscuits and real corned need hash cleaned his plate. Service was super fast and friendly and the owner Martha is a sweetheart. Love this place

  • Wendell L.

Great food, great service in a cosy down-home atmosphere. Delicious homemade breads accompany the yummy breakfast dishes too. Martha's is at the top of our must-go-to list in Ellsworth!

Great little diner with excellent food for the price. Beats Riverside Cafe on both counts. If you love corned beef hash, this is the place.

  • Sarah X.

I don't know if it's locals reviewing this place, but being from Boston/Providence area where there's tons of great food everywhere, this place is subpar. Everything we ordered came with a huge helping of grease. From our "home made" toast, to the eggs and home fries. Come if you're hungover and looking for fast extra greasy food.

Great place for breakfast. Locals gather here all winter - it can be very busy on the weekends in the summer. Solid diner food!

  • David V.

Stopped here for breakfast on our way back from Bar Harbor. We picked it based on the reviews and weren't disappointed. This place fits the classic diner description; friendly servers who call you honey, fresh baked bread and muffins and great (just like your mutha made) food. We'd definitely come back the next time we're up, down east.

  • Andrea S.

If you are staying in Ellsworth or surrounding towns, definitely eat here! Portions are ample, and everything the four of us ate over two visits was wonderful! Try the special quiche (changes daily), the crab Benedict, the omelets. The coffee is good strong simple coffee. A little hole in the wall, it's popular with the locals - get there before 8:30 am on the weekends, or you'll be waiting. Even so, it's well worth it! And yes, there is a real Martha!

    (5)
  • Langdon A.

I'm a little surprised by the strength of the reviews; for me, Martha's was merely okay. Very basic food, and in particular, I didn't think the blueberry pancakes were that special - they were rather dense and heavy, and light on blueberries. Still, if you're looking for a basic, inexpensive breakfast, this place is fine.

  • Mia C.

We stopped here to get some lunch packed for our trip to Acadia National park. This place was packed with what seemed to be regular customers. And the owner, Martha seemed to know everyone by name. And she addresses everyone by "Honey" - I like it :) We got 2 Tuna salad sandwiches to go from here. The sandwiches came with a bag of chips and coleslaw. The fruit cup we got was a big size and it had freshly cut oranges among other regular fruits

After leaving Bar Harbor, we stopped at the LL Bean Outlet and then went to Yelp to find a place to eat. Martha's is right across the street. The blueberry pancakes were excellent and nearly as big as the plate. The prices were much cheaper than anything we found in Bar Harbor and the service was quick and friendly.

  • Wes L.

Great food great price. Best Ruben in Maine. Great deserts. In the shopping center across from LL BEAN outlet. CASH or CHECK ONLY. We also enjoyed a very good breakfast the next day. You will not be disappointed.

  • Dan C.

Okay breakfast spot, but really wasn't impressed. Not sure why all the reviews are so fantastic. Very underwhelming blueberry pancakes. GFs omelette was undercooked. My breakfast was standard - no complaints, but nothing to write home about.

  • Katie B.

I had breakfast there on a busy Saturday morning and the service was fabulous. The eatery is small and friendly with a quick table turnover. There is seating at tables of 2 to 4 with no room in the isle for a 5th chair. A highchair fits. I had the lobster Benedict which was fresh and flavorful. The coffee was excellent and the servers kept it coming. My companion had the chipped beef gravy over 2 biscuts. He pronounced it perfect.

The service was quick and cheerful. It was good diner food and reasonably-priced. Keep in mind that's cash and check only.

  • Andrew J.

Really great little breakfast place! It had one of the best Eggs Benedict I've had in a while. They definitely DID NOT skimp on the chocolate chips in my wife's pancakes. The bacon lacked a little to be desired in my opinion - it wasn't worth the charge for a side of bacon. Overall, I would go back over and over for a weekend breakfast! BTW, they only serve breakfast on the weekend.

    (5)
  • Daniel M.

I have eaten there for years. We have a summer place on MDI. Sunday brunch/breakfast is superb. I always have the eggs Benedict. My wife always has crab Benedict. Crab Benedict is only offered until it runs out - usually about 1030. We get an order of Martha's homemade wheat toast. With coffee $23. This is NOT Dennys so don't expect Dennys prices. They only serve breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. Other days they serve breakfast and lunch. Open at 6 close at 1 on Saturday and Sunday. Closed Mondays. Cash or check only. I cannot comment on other food. But the eggs Benedict is the best I have EVE R eaten. Why change when you love it so much? Other people rave about other dishes.Service is fast and friendly. Try it. I love it.

Although the signage is a little small and hard to find it is well worth the extra effort to find it. It is set in a shopping center just past Shaws, and across from L. L. Bean. The home made bread was delicious, the chipped beef on toast was almost as good as the one I make and the home fries were excellent. Good service, good banter from the waitress, and hostess. I certainly will stop again next time I am in the area. Good portions and reasonable prices.

    (5)
  • Crystal H.

Just amazing food and service! I felt welcome instantly and had a really good experience. The portions are huge and the food taste like something a family member would make you. I will come back whenever I am in Maine.

Friendly service and good breakfast menu with all the diner offerings. Must have the homemade bread and the ham! They serve their ham generously as thick slices and its very, very tasty. Almost as good as my holiday Easter ham!

We like to try out different diners for breakfast when back home in CA, and decided to try out Martha's during our trip to ME. We ordered the eggs benedict and corned beef hash with pancakes (I think?). My eggs benny was ok...nothing to write home about. My husband raved about their thick slice of ham on the benny but I wasn't impressed with it. While halfway through with my breakfast, I heard the waitress say that they served lobster eggs benedict...had I had known that, I would've ordered that! I guess they have a special menu that only locals probably know about. It wasn't on their specials board either. Too bad. Probably wouldn't come back if I was traveling to ME.

  • Adrienne M.

We stopped here on our way out of town (we got takeout because we had our pup with us and they have no outdoor seating). I had the blueberry pancakes, which were absolutely excellent. I'd even say they rivaled Jordan's, my favorite blueberry pancakes in the area, and the prices here are MUCH cheaper than anything you will find on the island ($6 for three plate-sized blueberry pancakes). Tons of wild Maine blueberries and the pancakes had a very good texture and flavor. My husband enjoyed his breakfast sandwich on a bagel but wished the bagel had been toasted, so I recommend asking them to do that if you want it. We will definitely return. Cash only.

  • Angie C.

Best breakfast EVER!!! My husband and I have been traveling the east coast all year starting in Key West. We've had many good breakfast but this is hands down the absolute best ever. Glad we're here for a month. I will absolutely return.

  • Renee T.

No frills. Cheap eats. Cash or check only. Not a big place. Came here on a Saturday morning and the place was packed, but I did not have to wait long to be seated. Service was timely and staff were super nice and friendly. Food was just average, but nothing to complain about considering the prices.

  • Jessica S.

Went here twice with my husband while staying in Ellsworth, ME. The first time we dined in and got two omlets. I got the lamoine and he made his own. The portions were pretty big but the omlets were equal parts cheese and egg. Delicious if you are into that type of thing. We also ordered blueberry pancakes which they forgot about but were worth the wait when we finally got them. No air conditioning so the place got pretty hot. It was your quintessential charming hometown diner. We stopped by again for takeout breakfast on our way out of town. We both ordered breakfast sandwiches and when we opened the boxes up in the car down the road realized there were no eggs on either sandwich. I ended up eating a sandwich consisting of wheat bread, some type of white cheese, and bacon. Needless to say I was still hungry. Worth noting it is cash only, which isn't a problem because there is a grocery store in the same shopping center where you can get cash back.

Ham and hash. Eggs. No waiting. Great staff and great for kids. Note: I keep being asked for more review text when I try to post. Listen Yelp dudes, just put up the review.

  • Cindy L.

Very good brunch place. There's no real check in area/lobby, so the place looks and feels very crammed. As a party of two, we were seated quickly, but it was just a server asking which party came first and then pointing in the direction of the table. Service is ok, not good, but not bad. Our server said we couldn't replace bread for a English muffin even though it was the same price, but I saw another table do it which was fine, but a little frustrating. I got a delicious omelette - very hearty, large portion topped with gooey cheese for the price. The potatoes had great seasoning. My friend's pancakes were very ordinary - nothing special. Would love to come back and try the salmon Benedict or the breakfast burrito - it was humongous from what I saw, but I didn't even see it on the menu. The specials weren't listed the same on both sides of the restaurant & our server didn't mention them at all to us, which is a bummer cause I feel like I missed out on some great options. FYI- Some of the specials do run out later in the day. Skip the pancakes, order their egg based dishes for sure

friendly creating and service that makes you feel welcome. the crab (that's fresh picked main crab) Benedict was heavenly. yummy in da tummy.

Best Eggs Benidict I have ever had outside of my grandmother. Spend the extra 75 cents for homemade bread. Corn beef hash very good. Bring cash as they are cash only!

Great stop returning from Mt.Desert Island.. Excellent corn beef hash. Blue berry pancakes were almost half blue berries. The service was friendly and excllent.

  • David B.

Everyone enjoyed their breakfast. Crabmeat eggs Benedict was awesome. Corned beef hash on biscuits very good. Omelettes were also very good. It looks like a hole in the wall but was packed with customers. Good food at a good price.

After a crowded drive from Bar Harbor after the Fourth of July, where all the good breakfast venues were overflowing with people, I was lucky enough to find Martha's on Yelp. This unassuming diner turned out to be my favorite of all the places I'd sampled during my week and a half in Maine. The atmosphere was warm and genuine, the service was friendly and prompt, and the food was amazing. I ordered Martha's raspberry stuffed French toast, which was delicious. The space is small, so a wait may be necessary (though I enjoyed prompt seating at the counter). If you're looking for a true local diner with great food, go to Martha's; you won't be disappointed.

  • Bill M.

Not to much can beat good diner food and Martha's provides some of the area's best. Nothing fancy just good food. Real thick sliced ham, corned beef hash, and even chipped beef. Yummy! If you ever pass through on your way to Bar Harbor and looking for some good quick food and warm efficient service I recommend you stop on in.

This place rocks. If it was not for Yelp, I probably would not have risked it. What a dump on the outside. Old dumpy strip mall, cracked sign, big dumpsters on the side. Went inside and it was great. Very busy but got a table right away. Very clean inside and nice, 50's decor. Waitress (Sandy) was awesome. Did not expect the New Jersey accent in Northern Maine. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was off the hook. Believe it or not, too much ham. The ham was amazing, ham steak that was tender and flavorful but a 3/4 inch cut of ham on my Eggs Benedict was just too much and overpowered the other flavors a bit. I cannot knock them for too much of a good thing, however. We also order a side of corned beef hash and it was excellent, Crispy and flavorful. Wife had a scramble with the great ham and swiss cheese and she loved it. Great coffee and perfect, fast service.

Even if the food was lousy, I'd give it high marks for how lovely and sweet the staff was today. But my steak and eggs were terrific, and the blueberry pancakes yummy. What a nice little gem of a place. Sweet Maine hospitality, thank you.

It would be very easy to expect very little from a diner that is tucked away in a tiny corner of a shopping center, in between a laundromat and a parking lot in Ellsworth Maine. That said, Martha's Diner delivers. The food here is really really good. And it should be, Martha has been running this place since I was "knee high to a grasshopper." The place isn't huge. Most of the tables seat 2-4 people. There is a bar area where you can grab a seat if you're by yourself. Movie memorabilia and 1950s classic decor line the walls. The locals come in here as well. That says something when you get a nod from the people who live there year round. Maine tends to be an older and lower technology crowd, so my guess is that the people who would write rave reviews of this place aren't big on smart phones to "check in" using their Yelp app. There is a relaxed ambiance of this place that is tough to describe. The people from Maine are just the nicest people going, and they seem to live life at a much slower pace. This is not to say that the service here is slow. To the contrary, they are extremely efficient for being so relaxed. If I remember correctly, this place is cash only so be prepared. I've had just about every item on this menu that is vegetarian. The blueberry pancakes are a Maine staple, and they are absolutely delicious. This goes for a lot of places around here, but they use fresh Maine blueberries that are smaller and much sweeter than you find in the grocery stores or anywhere else in the country. The vegetarian eggs benedict is divine. The iced coffee is great. I cannot say enough about this place. As with all the out-of-towners who flock to this area to enjoy the gorgeous summers, I'll always be back to stop in to Martha's.

Pretty average breakfast. Didn't care for the seasoning on the homefries. Servers were busy and somehow screwed up my order even though it was an exact item off the menu. Hash was cooked well, nice and crispy on the flat top.

I agree with all the 4 & 5 star reviews posted. My wife and I had breakfast here after leaving Acadia. Good food and great service. The muffins are worth the little extra $. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

My favorite diner food to date! I'm always looking for a good diner and the food here is the best. Love it. Bring cash though, no cards ;) And they close at 2pm.

  • Carole H.

Good diner food, you won't be disappointed. My husband and I were split on the home made bread. He thought it was worth the extra charge, I was not convinced. His omelette was flavorful and properly cooked. My scrambled eggs were done especially well, which is difficult with scrambled eggs. Real sausage and good bacon, also properly cooked. Standard diner fare done right.

  • Sarah G.

Great. Clean, efficient, well-staffed. Consistently busy but didn't feel packed. Prices were exactly right for breakfast--we got pancakes, eggs, coffee, toast, bacon and bill was $32 (by the way, cash only!). Terrific server--Ashley. It's on the end of a little strip with a laundry if you are traveling and need to wash clothes AND eat.

The best breakfast place in Ellsworth and in Bar harbor. Crab Benny's are to die for and the blueberry pancakes are a family favorite!! Well worth the wait :). 4 stars since the bathrooms are small ... But really who cares.

The Lamoine Omlette was splendid! So were the corned beef hash and the banana split waffles. The service was quick and courteous. Glad we found this place on our trip!

Good food for a great price. Had a creative menu full lobster, crab, and Berry dishes for breakfast. Found through a yelp search. Staff is super friendly. We watched them make homemade blackberry stuff French toast will fresh blackberries! We have eggs and bacon. Simple but good. Have to agree with previous reviews.

Came in for breakfast after reading yelp reviews and they were right! We had scrambled eggs , blueberry pancakes and corned beef and hash and everything tasted great! Great portion sizes, nice service, good prices. If you love diners this is a place for you!

Found Martha's after looking on Yelp, and the reviews are spot on. We went in on a rainy Saturday morning when the line was out the door. The servers were upbeat and friendly, the food was delicious and the place was clean. It took a while for is to get our food, but it was understandable with the volume that little place was putting out. My husband said the corned beef hash was excellent. Stop in and say hello to Martha if your in town!

  • Sam S.

You have to find Martha's! Everything about this place was outstanding, Big red booths, posters/pictures on the wall, breeze blowing between doors and great service. We had breakfast, Omelettes filled with anything you want, toast, home fries, big glass of water and good coffee. Home fries were excellent (crispy on outside so good in middle). The sandwiches looked so good!

  • Amy S.

Thank you fellow Yelpers. Hit the jackpot here this Sunday morning. Home smoked salmon and fresh picked crab both in Benedict plates. Very generous portions of each protein and the homemade hollandaise sauce was outstanding. Coffee better than most diners. The staff was friendly and happy. They are closed memorial day but we will be here Tuesday before going home. Wow

The absolute best breakfast in the Ellsworth area. We have visited many times each year. The omelettes are great. The pancakes and fresh toast are great as well. I guess everything is great. Always a line of people waiting. But it is worth the wait. Remember to say hello to Martha!!

  • Paul W.

Success! My search for the real diner experience paid off this time. I noticed a sign that said Martha's Diner 0.6 mi. and had to stop. Great food, freshly prepared and generous portions were just the beginning. The menu was traditional diner far, breakfast all day. Being near the Maine coast (minutes from Bar Harbor) I tried the "award winning clam chowder" and a special Crab and Cheddar quiche. Both were great, the chowder as good as "Legal" yet uniquely different. The quiche was perfect with a thin non intrusive crust. This is an authentic diner experience down to the banter between the wait staff, (my server, we'll call her "blue eyes" was excellent) and the cooks. Martha herself was vivacious and friendly. Can't wait to come back when I'm in this area again.

Food is awesome, quick service and very cheap! The atmosphere had a 50's theme to it and the employees are very friendly. Definitely a place to visit if you are in the Ellsworth/Bangor/Bar Harbor (or Baa Haba lol) area. This should be Martha's Diner, not Cafe.

I was steered here by the manager of the hotel I stayed in and it was a good tip. It was an early Sunday morning but the place was already packed. Luckily I was alone so the hostess put me at a small table by the front doors, sans menu, and told me a waitress would be right there. I guess it was the invisible spot, because the minutes ticked away and nary a soul came to my table. I finally got tired of taking pictures and watching the locals, so I flagged someone down. WIth profuse apologies I was given a coffee and a menu, and all was right with the world again. I chose the ham and eggs (sunny side up) special and when it arrived I was greeted with 2 beautiful eggs with very yellow yolks, a mess of pan fried potatoes and the biggest slab of ham I've seen on my plate since the recession hit us. Take a look at the picture, it's a monument. And delicious it all was, the bacon not salty at all, the potatoes from Maine, so of course the tastiest ones you're ever going to eat - Idaho's are pathetic in comparison - and those eggs. tasty. Too bad this isn't a local dinner, but I guess my heart is thankful it isn't.

The only thing hard is narrowing your choice. Awesome Reuben. Outstanding chicken salad & a super good BLT! The wait staff is friendly & very helpful. Martha sets the tone from the minute you walk in the door--you are very welcome!

Great, great little greasy spoon diner. Very satisfying, filling, friendly atmosphere and can't beat the prices.

Great breakfast spot. The waffles are amazing according to my breakfast companions. Another companion ordered eggs over easy, one broke, but the chef cooked another one for him which arrived moments after the main meal had been delivered. I had blueberry pancakes and they were pretty darned tasty.

It's Martha's Diner, not Martha's Cafe. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Ellsworth. Delicious food, especially their breakfasts. Good food and plenty of it at affordable prices. I've mentioned to relatives who live hours away that I eat at Martha's and they all said it was one of their favorites.

Near perfect sausage/egg/cheese on bulky w/ home fries. I got take out, but would like to go back for the sit-down experience. It looks like a real gem.

A new restaurant since the last time I was home, this spot has been many things. I think it was a decent pizza place last I knew, I don't know why pizza places are so volatile around this town. I took my mother out to lunch here and ran into my grandparents. I always joke that I run into people I know more in Seattle than I do in the small city of Ellsworth, so this was nice to have happen. The wait staff was great. I'm sure I had a omelet, lacking any real vegetarian options. I remember it being good and the options all being named after local towns which was a little confusing I felt had little bearing on what was actually in the omelet. Of course, Maine still hasn't heard of vegetarians. I used to prefer Riverside but I was told by everyone that it was under new management and not so hot now. So I lived in Ellsworth still, this is where I'd be getting brunch.

The waitress was really cool and friendly! She explained a lot of the dishes they had and convinced me to get the crab roll. I was a little afraid to get a crab roll from a diner but it's maine it can't be too bad. It was awesome so fresh! My friends got omlettes which I tried that were also good.
