Great vintage local's and biker bar in downtown Ellsworth. The locals are always a great conversation. During the summer meet bikers from all over the country touring Maine. Favorite bartender is "Lovey". Yes no typo. I won't spoil it but she's a babe. Yes she's heard it all! Great cheese steak sandwich. There are some things pickled in large jars on the counter. God knows were they are created and who eats them. Do you feel lucky. Well do you!

Convenient, fairly priced, good ice cream. I always get the same thing, so I am actually not sure about all the flavors. I feel like they have a fair amount from recalling the size of the menu. Dairy Queen is coming to town, I hope it doesn't hurt this local business.
No samples??? No credit cards. It is cheap but it's just giffords ice cream which you can buy at Hanford down the street. Go downtown to Morton's moo which is home made.
Excellent prices and fantastic made-in-Maine ice cream. I loved my Maine blueberry ice cream. The portion was generous and under $3!

Martha’s Diner

151 High St
Ellsworth, 04605
Reviews:
Great roadside diner experience. I sat on the kitchen's side of the restaurant. Everyone was extremely nice and even entertaining. Loved the Eggs Benedict with crab meat. The poached eggs could be a bit fluffier. The low prices make this place even better. However, they do not accept credit cards :-(
This place was so good that we had to come back twice on our week-long vacation. Their homemade bread is light, fluffy, and flavorful. And their ham is real ham-steak: thick, sweet, juicy, and perfect on its own or in an omelet.
For the price point you can't beat the food at Martha's. A Yelp search brought us here on our way to Acadia and wanting a quick, hearty, inexpensive breakfast. The only gripe I have is that the server suggested I try the corned beef omelette instead of the ham. My mother had the ham in her eggs and it was wonderful, just like childhood ham from down south. The corned beef was ok but I would definitely suggest that ham first. Their blueberry pancakes were very tasty and not too sweet (a frequent pet peeve of mine). Also, it is well worth it to pay a bit extra for your bread option and order their homemade biscuit. All in all we really got our money's worth, fast friendly service, full tummies and leftovers for the dog.

Jordan’s Snack Bar

200 Downeast Hwy
Ellsworth, 04605
Reviews:
Jordan's Snack Bar is my favorite place to get something to eat when I am on the run and don't want to get chain fast food. They do a great job with their fried seafood, grilled burgers, and the onion rings are thin and stringy, so delicious. Of course, the main reason I go there is for their crab roll. In my opinion it is the best around. One of the main reasons why is they only use FRESH crabmeat to make the crab roll. NEVER frozen. It makes a world of difference! When you walk up to the counter window to order, you pray to see that sign posted. "Fresh Crabmeat Today". The sign means you are gonna get a toasted bun loaded with perfect crabmeat. You don't see the sign, you arent going to be able to get a crab roll. Simple enough, right? So, my meal of choice there is always a crab roll, with a small side portion of fried scallops. Kind of pricey, but worth every penny!
I'd recommend having the lunch sized portion if you decide to order a seafood meal. Everyone in my group ordered fried clams and there was more than enough food for each of us in the lunch portion. The dinner sized meals supposedly come with twice the seafood and additionally are served with cole slaw (lunch comes with clams, fries, and a buttered roll). I believe the dinner portion would be more suitable for sharing, which would be economical since it is around $19 while the lunch is around $12. The fried clams were delicious. The tartar sauce was fairly heavy on the mayo with minimal relish bits, so I'd say I've had better. The fries were decent as well as was the root beer. As mentioned, the portion was large and was a decent value for the price. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They actually have quite a compound on the site, with a playground, dining hall, and mini arcade in addition to the main kitchen building. There is a lot more than meets the eye from the street. The dining area was plain, yet rather clean for a roadside stand. I noticed workers tidying up the general area and wiping down tables when patrons left. The arcade has a jukebox, three pool tables, and various video games. It had kind of a "road house" vibe to it, with plywood walls. It was maintained but looked kind of shabby in a way that made me think you could have a lot of fun there if you were having a couple beers and the place was packed with bikers, which I believe it occasionally is.
I grew up eating Jordan's food and I make it a point to stop here whenever I'm in the area. They make the best fried clams I have ever eaten. I have tried fried clams from Florida to Maine and nowhere has come close to Jordan's. Their onion rings are awesome too!! Portions are decent, but the seafood prices can be a little steep. To me, it's so worth it!

Union River Lobster Pot

Now one might think that after 8 hours in the car the first stop would yield bliss....and it did. After 25+ years of heading to the Swans Island ferry i popped into this joint as an adult....and keep coming back since. The view from the screened porch is priceless for pre ocean visitors. Stick w the fish simply prepared. But don't forget to start w the bisque. Can't be skipped
Absolutely the best meal I've had in a long time. The NE clam chowder fantastic. Now to The lobster stew. I would drive the 9 hours I drove to Maine just for that. PHENOMENAL!! The lobster fantastic. Mussels and clams FRESH. staff was extremely friendly. Loved every second. Remember....... LOBSTER STEW!!!!!
As always, Union River continues to be the best place for Lobster if you like a proper sit-down restaurant. It is a nice large space, you don't feel crowded one you have been sat. That said - get here early for dinner, no later than 5:00 or so, or you will face a good wait. We chose to dine in the outdoor/screen room both visits. One night it was a bit chilly in there so bring a sweater just in case! The Gulf of Maine fried shrimp dinner: Loads of shrimp deep fried in a thick batter. It was a nice plate of shrimp but I would not recommend this because Maine shrimp are miniscule so it was like eating mostly batter. Too bad because Maine Shrimp are so tasty and tender. These little gems would be better suited to Scampi or Fra Diavolo. 1 1/4 lb Lobster. Lobster is like a box of chocolates, you never quite know what you will get! This one had a rock hard shell and was super-stuffed with tender tasty meat. The cracker they give you is the cheesy kind so don't struggle with it, ask your server for the deluxe model. The tail was quite tender so I definately enjoyed the meal. ( I usually don't order Lobster out. I don't like wrangling with my dinner especially when hungry and I like to steam them and have them sit and cool for a while.) My friend enjoyed the Fried Clam Plate one evening and the 10oz Rib Eye. All the dinners came with mini-loaves of bread, cole slaw. Salad or vegetable were slightly extra. We had no room for dessert, but made up for it at the B&B we stayed at with their fabulous breakfast brunch!

Homestead Motel Cottages

Reviews:
I checked into this hotel when I was visiting Acadia National Park. The hotel owner is a very nice couple. They are very friendly and accommodating. I noticed some other reviewers pointed out how terrible the hotel condition was -- the room itself didn't have a problem, it was clean and very cozy. Their main office looked like an antique shop, chaotic but in an organized fashion! If some reviewers wanted to have a crazy clean hotel room with modern decors in this area, they would have to pay at least double the rate this hotel offered. Nothing is perfect, and so this hotel has just the right balance between comfort and affordability. The owners are also trying their best to make improvements on the room every season. Thanks for hosting and keep it up!
Nice place, quite and some options to chose from as far as staying rooms. The owners/staff are friendly, the rooms are clean.
***Disclaimer: this review was written by a civilization deprived camper who had spent the last 6 days in in a tent during all sorts of inclement weather*** Needed a cheap place to stay the night, nothing fancy, just a place that wasn't a sleeping bag on the ground. This place was it. It's quaint at best, but run down is a better description. Water stains on the ceiling, wallpaper peeling, paint chipped, carpet a billion years old, but all very clean and neat. Coffee and bagels by 8 but never got them as I was gone by 5am. Wifi was non existent but I had 4G on my smartphone so I was too upset for one night. This place suited my needs.

Ellsworth Giant Sub

Bar Harbor Rd
Ellsworth, 04605
Reviews:
What a great LOCAL sub shop and business! The five of us went in for dinner before the lumberjack show, and we had great subs all around with a broad drink choice. The staff were outgoing and friendly, and I would go here before any one of the chains for a great sandwich and value.
I've been a fan of Giant Sub since the 70's when our family would traditionally stop there on our way back to Massachusetts after our summer vacation to MDI was over. Fast forward to today when my wife and I stopped there to grab a quick lunch for the kids. I never expected it to be the same as "the good ol' days" but it was, and do you know why? Because the same guy still owns the place and we even got to meet him! Says he's been running things since 1968! My beloved meatball sub was exactly as I remembered it (excellent) and the kids had high praise for the cold cut (Italian) sub. It was like a time warp! Thank you Giant Sub, for remaining great all these years and for bringing back some fond memories.
The subs here are anything but Giant. We ordered 4 different subs and they were all skimpy as can be. There prices are no bargain either. Food quality was below average as well.

Denny’s

Reviews:
This is the Denny's I would always go to when I am going to Bar Harbor. The service is always good and I have no problems with the food that I get.
Friendly staff. Great food. A little slow getting the food, but the place was packed with a line out to the parking lot. So many coffee refills I may not sleep until Monday!
What I am about say about this particular location is probably the standard for all of the other Denny's; after all it's a chain, is it not? Let me start off by saying...It is truly PATHETIC when a restaurant charges more for an item then what it's truly worth. Considering the price of "eggs" was or is on the rise and appears to be that one particular item a few select restaurants are raising the prices for, let's use this item as the PRIME EXAMPLE, shall we?! So let's talk about eggs; an item my hubby enjoys immensely and will often buy more sides of in addition to the meal we both split... Well it wasn't until we completed our breakfast, which was good but not exceptional, where we both discovered that each additional egg cost us $1.99! Saaaay whaaaat?! $1.99 an egg! Golly, for the $3.98 we had spent on 2 eggs, we might as well have gone and bought a dozen and made our own breakfast! Ummm sooo with that said...thanks, but no thanks Denny's! We'll take our business elsewhere next time!

Ellsworth Pat’s Pizza

Reviews:
Great hand tossed thin crust pizza, but they are a restaurant with waaay more tastey menu items then pizza! They have amazing sandwiches (love the Dagwood, it's my favorite) and great Italian options. I also love their calzones. thin crust with chunky sauce on the side. Try the spinach, feta and fresh mushroom.... YUM! Another great option is their salads. They are HUGE... I try to eat low carb, so the Cindy's Salad which has lots of meats, cheese and low carb veggies. Ask for it "chopped" if you really want the flavor to mesh together. I enjoy Pats for dinner, but it is my regular GO TO for lunch. Enjoy!
This place was not so great. I have been to many, many pizza places and had some great pizza but this ain't it! My friends got the taco pizza which is made with a double crust. The crust was not cooked all the way through and they were eating raw dough. We also ordered a margarita pizza which was dripping in grease. The crust is bland with no flavor. Service people were excellent and fast but won't eat here again. Uncooked, greasy pizza doesn't do it for me.
As I visited the Bar Harbor area, we realized that Pat's Pizza has a few different locations, including Bar Harbor. We went to this particular Pat's Pizza three different times in 2 days. They have a nice deck outside if weather is permitting. Very friendly greeting from a gentleman (Manager?) as we walked in and that was a nice welcoming. The first two visits, we had good service from the waitresses in the bar area. On the 3rd visit, which was around 3-4 pm on a Sunday, the bartender lady only cared about the locals, which was very obvious. She just stood beside one local guest, hanging out with him the entire time we were there and we could hardly get a drink or a water. The pizza that I custom ordered was served hot and exactly as I requested and was one of my favorite pizzas that I have ever had. They had 3 different sizes of pizzas (as I recall) and the small was a 9" and it was a great crust and fresh veggies. They had the best corn chowder that I have ever had. Everything that we ate here was delicious. A guy next to us ordered spaghetti and it looked horrid. He said it was cold, very very little sauce and just a small blob of cheese in the middle. It looked awful. Large parking lot. We will definitely visit again if we make it back to Maine. I will order pizza all day long here.

I love the Riverside. It is completely charming, they've got great local musicians playing, and it's got a real neighborhood feel. I always feel right at home, even though it's been a long time since I lived in Ellsworth. The food could be a little more interesting, but, hey, what do you want?
I love the Riverside! Super yummy breakfasts, casual 'neighborhood' feel. Just went for lunch the other day & had a great veggie burger. You can't go wrong!!!
Stopped here for basic breakfast...not outstanding but very solid. Eggs done as requested (one over easy, one medium), good home fries, and very decent homemade toast (oat, raisin both good). One person had a breakfast burrito...again decent and they were quick to make minor changes. Nice ambience for a small town restaurant...had a counter for those so inclined. Booths and tables nicely spaced. Service was quick. One of our go-to places for basic breakfast in Ellsworth.
