Paws Inn

I would 100% recommend this B&B as an awesome place to stay for skiing at Sunday River, Leaf Peeping in Maine, or just a chance to get away - with your dog(s)! Unlike many B&Bs/Hotels that are "Pet Friendly", Paws Inn allows you to leave your dog (or cat!) when you go out for the day. Either leave your furball in your room, or leave him out to play with the other furry guests! My boyfriend and I (and our PeanutButter) stayed here for two nights to go skiing at Sunday River. Our room (the 'pink' room) was small but lovely and each room has a private bathroom (and I believe each of the three rooms has a queen bed). The common areas (living room, dining room, kitchen, porch, fenced in backyard area) are kept SO CLEAN for a place that has 1-10 dogs running around at any given time. No fur flying here. The owner, Carolyn - 'Bailey' - is super friendly and loves animals, and you can tell. She will provide you with a great breakfast and also load you down with snacks to take to the mountain ("Because the food is just too expensive there!"). She also has a big stack of hankerchiefs for the animal guests, and lots of dog treats. Bailey's dog, Kip, is a wonderful Shepherd/Collie mix, and made PeanutButter feel at home right away. She enjoyed her day romping around with him and some of the other guests' dogs. I loved our time here and will definitely be back.
Possibly the best place in Bethel to stay with a dog! Great food, friendly service and inexpensive...
I stayed at The Paws Inn with my mom and our three smallish dogs around the Thanksgiving holiday. If you're looking for a getaway in the Bethel, Maine area AND you're a pet owner, this is definitely the place for you. Unlike other inns in the area that claim to be "pet friendly", your pets are welcome to stay in your room even when you leave the premises. The pet play area off the kitchen is perfect for letting your dogs out if you don't have time to take them for a walk. The kitchen and living room/dining room are cozy and super clean, considering this is a dog friendly inn! Carolyn, the innkeeper, is lovely and laid back. She makes your visit feel warm and welcome, like you're staying at a friend's house rather than at an inn. Carolyn's breakfasts are delicious! Her baked eggs and french toast are absolutely decadent! If you're looking for a quick breakfast, she puts out cereals and granola bars and keeps a fridge stocked with beverages for the guests. Kip, her German Shepherd/Collie mix is such a sweetheart, and got along well with my three dogs. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean, featuring a queen size bed, sizable closet (large enough to fit plenty of luggage), two upholstered chairs, a flat screen TV with cable, and a roomy bathroom with walk-in shower. There was even space for an inflatable queen mattress on the floor. The inn offers free, fast wi-fi which was a huge plus! I was worried about being cold but the heating is great, and the thermostat is right outside the room for easy control. The Paws Inn is super affordable and honestly the best place in Bethel for pet owners. Definitely pay it a visit; you won't be disappointed!

Our next trip to the mill hill inn will include the hummus, the scallops, and the tuna or the salmon, which we didn't try on this visit but which the wait staff all rave about. Love the live music.
My friends treated me to a dinner for my b day whilst in town snowboarding at Sunday River. Based on Yelp reviews, I chose Mill Hill. What a gem!! I called ahead to make a res. Lee was most accommodating. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed. Our waitress was fabulous. The menu is fantastic with some small plates and Tapas delights. The wine and beer menu is diverse and varied and quite intriguing. I sampled a few wines that I loved . My boyfriend loved his beer selection. As to the food, it was tasty but not too hot. The flavors, wow, spot on. Our fav was the brie app and the eggplant crostini. Plating was artistic. The pottery dishes are gorgeous and crafted by Woody! The negative was when a table of 15 came in and dominated the tiny dining room. The noise was so loud we were forced to leave and finish our dining in the living room. I simply could not hear my boyfriend and this was before they had a second round. By the time we left it sounded like a block party. Nice folks by the way but it's too small of a venue for such a group when others seek to dine intimately. The setting is quirky casual and fun. Thanks Lee for the tasty birthday dessert treats!
We had a lovely visit here! The owners, Lee and Woody, are such kind, accommodating people. We stayed here when coming to Ski at Sunday River for a few days. Great proximity to the Mt and to the little town. The room was clean and spacious. There are a lot of common areas, which our kids really enjoyed. Woody's breakfasts are delicious! We also really enjoyed the dinner. We shared some small plates and entrees. Lots of variety for kids as well. You can eat in the dining room, bar or any of the common sitting areas. We will definitely come back if we return to the area. More of a Bed and Breakfast feel than a typical Inn. Loved it!

Me and husband visit here last June of 2014. Good food at good price. Love the food truck outside will stop here every time I am in Maine. I stocked up on raw honey and things I don't see to much in the city at these prices. I hope they have that moose next time I visit.
Why on earth anyone would consider going to the Irving for Subway or snacks while the Good Food Store is open across the street is beyond me. I can honestly say I've never had an edible item from here that wasn't fantastic. They've got trail snacks, made in-house, anything from dried apples to raw trail mix. Their sandwiches are full of tasty goodness. The turkey bomb is a personal favorite, the match of which I haven't found in another similar-style sandwich. You can also purchase some other basic necessities, natural products and many gluten-free items for those with dietary issues. The staff is always friendly...I could keep going, but you should really just check it out for yourself if you're in the Bethel area!
Great little natural food store with fresh, homemade baked goods, coffee and tea. Amazing selection of microbrews. The place they keep the wine gets really warm in the summer months which is unfortunate. Other than the wine storage issue, this is a great place! Also, don't forget to grab something delicious from the BBQ in the parking lot! :)

Such a gem tucked away in this little town!! I have been coming here for years and years and I love this place. Great vegetarian fare, but make sure to get there early - pastries etc. will run out by afternoon. Everything is made fresh, in house every morning. The homemade gelato is DIVINE!! They have various flavors including Nutella and cantaloupe, which is my personal favorite. Anyone in or around Bethel needs to check out cafe dicocoa.
Best coffee in the area! I love their Americanos and coconut cupcakes. It's a cozy little cafe with great outdoor seating right in downtown Bethel. There's usually a great selection of baked goods, healthy lunch items, local ingredients and vegan and vegetarian options. The staff are always super friendly and great to chat with. This is one of my favorite places to stop whenever I visit my family's home in the area. :)
Creative, outstanding vegetarian fare. Had the Greek panini and a quesadilla with a maple Dijon sauce that was awesome. Went back for iced lattes. No complaints at all.

Smokin’ Good BBQ

I wish they had Porkslap Ale. That would have been perfect and gone with their marketing. I was confused at first and thought Smokin' Good BBQ and the food truck + dining area were different. They are not-they are one and the same. We came back from a strenuous hike (really it was the way down that almost killed us...damn blueberry ridge trail!) and we were HANGRY. We had some left over veggies from earlier that we had forgone because we didn't have enough water with us, but now that we were hydrated we didn't stop to think about those and went straight to the MEAT state of mind. We got two full orders-one of pork bbq on a roll and a chicken bbq. The meat was tender and smoky, the sauces equally so. They ask you if you want mild or wild...for the sandwich they'll put the sauce on directly but if you don't get the roll you can ask for the sauce in little containers. Which honestly is a good idea even you just get the roll because that sandwich will be overstuffed and that pork WILL fall out. Which you can then blissfully dunk in sauce. You get cornbread and two sides with your plate. You have the option of baked beans, coleslaw, and really hot chili. We got one of each and doubled up the baked beans. the chili was super tasty and savory but I couldn't eat too much of it because it was way too spicy for me. The beans are sweet and comforting but the winner was the coleslaw-wish I had doubled up on that one instead. It was tangy and crunchy, just enough sauce. I was a bit underwhelmed by the cornbread which was a bit on the dry side but they have the idea right-sugar has no place in corn bread (or at least not very much sugar!). We took everything with us and ate it back at our Inn but they've got some picnic tables on a nice grassy area behind the truck. I hope this place is open during winter too which is when I'm most likely to come back to Bethel!
Unbelievable food, served by the happiest kindest person (Kate)! We got ribs and the 4 meat combo to take home to our hotel after a long day of skiing...heaven. Large quantities, amazing flavor, the sides and sauces were incredible. Highly recommended, lots of love, the skiers from Buffalo!
Got take out here on a cold January day after phoning in our order. We smelled the smoky goodness at work from the smoker as soon as we stepped out of our vehicle. Food was tasty and reasonably priced. Ordered half a chicken, big 4 combo and the pork sundae. Loved the "wild" sauce but not for the faint hearted!

Very fresh seafood. Excellent service. Delicious sauces. Reasonable. Nice to sit outside.
We went full bore with drinks, meal, and dessert. All were delicious. Baked haddock was amazing, and all desserts tried on the table were raved about. The atmosphere is relaxed and calming inside of a large house.... very quaint. Definitely recommend
Terrific restaurant We each ordered Steamed Lobster. Paid $24/each. Not bad for lobster. I thought mine was a little tough. Not succulent enough. That's why I'm withholding the 5th star. Blueberry crisp with vanilla ice cream was to die for. The house Pinot Grigio was very good. Really good & friendly service. They do have the best seafood chowder anywhere!

My wife and I went here per a local rec combined with looking at Yelp. The place is pretty boring inside but not a bad a setup and still good for kids. The clientele is varied but one thing that really irked me was a patron talking about how he hates Canadians loudly because I was wearing a Montreal Canadians t-shirt. First off, I'm not Canadian, second, it's a sports team, get over it. So with that behind me, the buffalo burger was highly recommended but not very good. It tasted burned and didn't have much flavor. My wife had fish and chips and it was much better. I had a few beers which were tasty if a little over priced. I'm not sure I would go back but I won't be in the area again most likely but there are probably better choices.
We really like this place and try to stop by whenever we are in the area. The wings and pizza are great!!! Great selection of beer too. It's a fun casual place but may get crowded with skiers in the evening. Definitely worth the wait though.
I loved this hole in the wall! Believe it or not it was too icy to ski so we wandered around town until we stumbled into Suds Pub for lunch. They have a few TVs which is great for the man to watch the game and they had a pretty basic but enough to make us happy menu - along with a wall full of beers on tap! 29 beers on tap to be exact! The bar food was good and the chef salad that I got was very good! When back in the area I will def swing by this place again.

Can't beat it for the price! 10 minutes to Sunday River to ski and 2 good restaurants on site (Bistro 151 upstairs and Suds pub downstairs). We stayed in the carriage house (room 50) in a dog friendly room. It had a big bathroom, it was clean, warm and fine for basic accommodations. Not a luxury inn, but for the price it is a great value. Would definitely recommend to a friend and would come back again.
Very nice dinner by the gas fireplace in the dining room. The food was delicious and the room was warm and cozy on a cold winter night. One of the more pricey restaurants on Main St., I think, but worth the splurge.
Food: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Services: 3.5/5 Prices: $$$ (avg 25/person) Located on the main street of the small quaint town called Bethel. This old but very well maintained building housed the Inn with rooms upstairs, restaurants on the ground floor and a huge pub/restaurant in the basement area. While waiting for our table, we went down and have a quick look at the pub, its definitely happening here, very interesting setting with a small corner for live music and it was packed. Apparently, this is a very popular local and tourist hangout and i dont blame them, it definitely looking good in there even if you come alone, you bound to meet and mingle! Now on to the restaurant. We waited for about 45mins for our table by the window in the enclosed patio. If you are planning for a romantic dinner for 2 or just in a company of 4, I definitely recommend to have a table in the patio, great ambiance but i cant say for the rest of the restaurant. We started with a glass of Prosecco, just the right wine to freshen up our appetite. The partner ordered the Broiled Seafood Sampler with the suggested wine pairing of Chardonnay. Very generous chunks of seafood - scallops, shrimps & lobster on top of rice, look like saffron rice. To me this dish was a bit blend, the lemon butter and wine sauce just didnt stand out enough bring the dish together and it could have been helpful if they spiced up the rice too... For me I went for the night special - Lamb Osso Bucco, i try not to pass this dish if i can especially when its the Night Special, that mean they cook them fresh (i hope)... There were few parts of the meat that was not as tender but overall the flavor was pretty good. The mashed potatoes and grilled veges were a great accompaniment to the heavy taste of the meat. I definitely recommend this dish whenever they are offering it for the night... We ended with the Night's Dessert special - Warm Apple pie with ice-cream. You cant go wrong with this dish and it was yummy but again, the ice-cream just not Blue Bell (what with me and Blue Bell, and no, i do not own any stock of this company, i wish)... Overall, I recommend anyone that is visiting Bethel to check out this place. Basically, you dont need to go anywhere else, just book a room there, have dinner and then hangout in the pub downstairs, that will be a holiday weekend well spend!

It was back at the height of ski season, but we had a great dinner there. Got there late so we weren't sure if food was still an option, but the owners made us right at home and hooked us up. Prime rub was a hit, for sure. The bartender, forget her name, was great for conversation about the wild drinking antics about town, just my kind of conversation. Overall, if you're in the area go there for a early dinner, or latenight cocktails in a party enviroment.
I am surprised to see such good reviews for this "restaurant", it is more of a bar. The service was okay, but the food was not. The prime rib was mediocre. The prime rib sandwich was just a slab of rib on two tiny pieces of bread, that you couldn't even eat as a sandwich. The buffalo wings were definitely frozen. The kind that tastes more like batter than chicken. And the pizza was made from a pre-made crust. I am thoroughly disappointed after expecting more from the other reviews.
Great spot! Loads of delicious drinks, fantastic prime rib, pool tables, fun people, and a crazy halloween party. Great!

The only reason I'm giving 1 star is because they serve delicious Gifford's ice cream. Gifford's get 5 stars....Inman's food not so much. We usually stop by for some ice cream after dinner. Decided to run over and grab some lunch for me and my husband. I went in and ordered a turkey sub and a lobster roll. Like most sandwich shops I figured I'd wait a few minutes and be on my way. It was NOT busy. 2-3 people that were already eating so my order was the only one up. 15 minutes goes by and the very nice woman working the front came over and looking very apologetic tells me that "he just realized that he ran out of lobster last night". What? I asked her "So, it took him 15 minutes to realize he was out of lobster". She said, oh no...he made the turkey sub and then realized he was out of lobster. So I then ask...so it took him 15 minutes to make a turkey sub? She was very embarrassed looking so I told her I'd take a salami sub. He made that in 5 minutes so I'm really not sure what the problem was. No comp to me for my time at all. And then I get home and the salami was bad. Had to throw it out. My husband's turkey sub was thick cut slab turkey. I'm sure plenty of people would like that but we just wanted a normal turkey sub with deli style turkey. We will never order anything but ice cream from this place again.
Inman's opened up where Bethel's Best used to be on Route 2 in Bethel and we finally got a chance to check them out. Review only covers take-out dinner; they have a totally different breakfast menu and (of course) ice cream that we did not check out. Excellent pizza w/ fresh toppings. The burgers are great as it's an a-la-cart system. $3.99 for the burger (or grilled chicken / fried haddock) + pickle and then you can add whatever else you want for an extra fee. This let us construct a non-standard feta-and-chedder burger with bacon & lettuce which we really like but rarely see on menus. I could not find a website on their menus; banner outside says they open for breakfast at 5:30am. I think they close around ~8p on weekdays and ~9p on weekends. We'll be back to try breakfast and ice cream. Hope the new owners are really successful here.
Great diner type place for a greasy burger and a milkshake. Good sweet potato fries and onion rings, too. Very casual, serving Gifford ice cream products. Very nice staff.
