For my birthday, Jeff planned a surprise weekend to Bath, Maine, a town that I live in my childhood. As part of the surprise, Jeff booked the Kismet Inn for the weekend. The Kismet Inn is a beautiful and unique hotel. The owner, Shadi, is extremely nice and friendly. Breakfasts are organic and made from local ingredients. She makes almost everything herself including the coffee and tea. One of the best things we had was this wonderful carrot jam made with cardamom. I'm usually a hater of carrots, but this was just so different, I couldn't resist. Also, she was very accommodating with serving breakfast foods we wanted. Jeff had a wild mushroom omelet but since I don't eat mushrooms, I was made a saffron omelet. The eggs not only had saffron, but cinnamon and cardamom. It easily could have been bad, but it wasn't. It was definitely an unique and yummy breakfast. The rooms were decorated with a few pieces of Middle East décor and handcrafted wood beds. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were very big. Some rooms have tubs that are 3 feet deep, that's half my size! There were a few little minor quirks about the inn: 1) No shoes allowed in the house. I was a little thrown by this, but the house was extremely clean so walking around in my socks wasn't that big of a deal. 2) No TV. I laughed at Jeff when he told me this. I couldn't believe he would book a place with no TV, but we brought our laptop and it was all good. 3) No cold drinks for breakfast. It would have been nice to have some juice with breakfast. All in all, these were extremely minor and did not deter from our time there. We had a very relaxing weekend and Shadi was a most gracious hostess.

We had a great weekend here. There's really nothing to compare it to that I've found. The food is excellent. We had some amazing meals, all organic and local. Both of us had wonderful massages and then I got to experience an exfoliation treatment that left my skin baby soft. The rooms are each unique and very comfortable. We opted for the room with the deep tub, but next time I think we will pick a room with a steam shower. This is a great place to go if you need to get out of the city and pamper yourself. Bath is a quaint little town as well.

I had the most wonderful time at the Kismet Inn. This is a dreamy place. It's deceivingly plain on the outside, but a true haven on the inside. Shadi is an unbelievable cook. When I had an issue with my bath, she was eager to help/problem solve. As an added touch, she organizes yoga classes with a one-of-a-kind teacher, Kate Nicholson. Shadi inspired me tremendously and I can't wait to return for another retreat in the future. If you come here, I'd couple your visit with an outdoor retreat in the area. Maine has so much to offer, from lakes to coast to hiking to biking.

Simply put, you MUST go. The owner, staff, and Inn are a rare genuine treat. The attention to detail and absolute purposeful living exudes peaceful joy. Go and be transformed by your stay.

Best inn we've ever stayed in, no exceptions! Amazing rooms, great service, and a super relaxing environment. The breakfasts were local as organic, and completely delicious. We booked a dinner, and she cooked so much terrific food for us it was incredible. Walnut, pomegranate chicken; local cheeses and sliced beets; organic salad greens; fragrant basmati rice; and a fresh berry cobbler. Wow! The bathroom in our room was the best in any hotel or inn I've stayed in. It was like being at a spa! The town of Bath is super cute, and the Kismet is right in the heart of it all. This is a special place with a truly caring innkeeper.

I see from the reviews of others that once someone is able to book at Kismet, they have a good experience. I, however, must say that the innkeeper, Shadi, dealt with me in a completely unprofessional and disappointing manner. For two weeks straight, I attempted to contact her to inquire about reservation availability. She was never at the inn when I reached her--she was out shopping, or on a bus, or somewhere else, and she twice asked for my number, but never called me back, and several times asked me to call her back, which I did, to receive the same response. I sent an email through the website, which she never answered. Finally, I called again, and explained the date and nature of the reservation I wanted to make, for a family of four. I described the needs of the family and the ages of the two children, and she told me definitively that yes, she did have two adjoining rooms that would work, and that she believed they were available, but she just needed to confirm. She promised to be in touch in two days. When she finally did write back, it was to tell me that she does not "take children that age simply because it is unfair both on the child and the other guests." At no point during our phone conversation did she say this; in fact, she said she would be able to accommodate us. This arbitrary, unpublished policy, which she did not outline in any of her conversations with me, therefore wasted several weeks of my time that I could have used to find another option for my lodging needs. I certainly hope that she does not deal with others in this inconsiderate and unprofessional manner.

Kismet Inn is a beautiful bed & breakfast with fantastic food, extremely comfortable bedrooms with japanese soaking tubs (or steam showers), a yoga studio, and a gracious and kind host named Shadi. She designed all of the bed frames (each room has a different look) in all 5 rooms, which were custom made by a local artisan. All of her food is organic and locally grown and home made. She offers Tea & cookies in the afternoon, dinner and breakfast and she accommodates your schedule as her guest. All and all it was the best B&B my husband and I have been too.
