You have to know this place is here. You won't just drive by it, or see it on Diner, Drive-ins, and Dives (although it seems custom-made for that show). If you do know this place is here, thank your lucky goddamn stars right this minute! I came here for the first time a week ago after checking out the Maine Maritime Museum. My stepdad works there and he suggested we try Gilmore's for some killer lobster rolls. I was so unprepared for the wonders that awaited me. I take lobster rolls pretty seriously. I grew up in Maine, after all. In my eyes, the perfect lobster roll is very simple: buttery toasted split-top hot dog bun, tons of fresh lobster chunks in bite size pieces (many restaurant versions fail on this score) and a bit of mayo to hold it all together. That's it! And that is what you will get at Gilmore's. The lobster roll was on the border of having too much mayo but it didn't deter me. I inhaled that thing in short order, along with the side of fries. Those fries are reason enough to come here. Seriously, I'm not even kidding or exaggerating, they were the best fries I've ever tasted in my whole life. Shoestrings, not too skinny, all perfectly crisp and seasoned and clearly fried in very fresh oil. No floppy guys, no hard crunchy guys, no greasy guys, they were sheer perfection. The onion rings were also excellent but the fries just blew me away. We were feeling indulgent so E and I also got a crab cake on the side to share. I forgot my traitorous preference for Maryland-style crab cakes, so I was momentarily surprised to cut into the crispy bread crumb exterior to find a creamy, slightly mayoed crab interior. Crab cakes don't need no mayo. It was tasty though! Do not miss the baked good here. I really wish we had been able to grab a pie but the logistics weren't in our favor for that. The whoopie pie and lemon corn bread were both fantastic, though.

This is my go to fish shack. (It's also a full fish market) The actual location is no scenic picturesque spot but the food is amazing! It's all take out so you can just drive 1 minute down the road to the waterfront to eat if you need the view. Otherwise there are some covered picnic tables outside the market. I recommended the fish and chips or scallops basket. If you are on a budget the haddock sandwich is always a great choice. Compared to other similar seafood stands Gilmores has the taste and value. *there is often a nice organic farm stand going next to Gilmores. The greens and pies are excellent!!! Grab a Maine made blueberry soda to go with your fish baskets.

Crab roll was toasty, buttery awesomeness. My crab roll with coleslaw and fries was $11.50ish. The crab was nicely tossed in mayo and was delicious. This place rocks! Haddock chowder was creamy and delicious. Only negative is no indoor seating and porta-poties. Seating is all outside and under large tents. Prices are reasonable.

My husband and I really enjoyed eating at Gilmore's. Between the two of us, we had lobster rolls, fries, onion rings, and the lobster cake. All of the food was delicious and we would definitely go back. Quick and courteous service.

Out of the way and hard to find but lobster role and incredible onion rings hit the spot perfectly.... No frills and lacking in tourist appeal... Kinda perfect.

Barely visible on the southbound side of Route One, Gilmore's can be seen peeking out from below the back of the McD's parking lot. On my quest for the perfect crab/lobster roll I made the stop. Gilmore's was excellent! No lettuce, perfectly toasted bun, slightly high on the mayo - just slightly. The mayo was possibly of the light persuasion. Straight up, full fat Hellman's (Best Foods for you westerners) and just a touch at that could have made this a Hall of Famer. Most of the meat was knuckle and claw chunks with some good size pieces of tail. There were no lobster particles to speak of, just good toothsome chunks. The setting leaves something to be desired. The picnic tables with view of parking lot are far from Shaw's or The Lobster Shack's atmosphere/view, but there aren't throngs of people and the prices are a bargain. It's about the food, right? I had a hot dog too- not a red Jordan's dog, the only type to be eaten in Maine, but still a good natural casing dog done on the flat top grill. My Lobster roll of good proportions set me back $12.95 in early September of 2007. Forget Red's and the Sea Basket and get an order to go, then head down to the Kennebec somwhere to eat it. Don't take too long because you want the grilled bun to retain that little bit bit of crispness on the outside. gilmoreseafood.com Don't forget to go to the museum if you are in Bath! mainemaritimemuseum.org/…

I used to buy all of my seafood from Gillmores! I love this place, wish we had an equivelant here in WA state. I have purchased lobsters, crab meat, clams, shrimp, and fish. The people are friendly and the pricews outstanding!!

If you're looking for a fancy sit-down diner, this is not the place ... move along. From the moment you walk into Gilmore's you're assaulted with a strong fish market smell and it's obvious that you're getting the freshest seafood available. They bring the lobsters in fresh from the boat and sell them here in their market. We got there 20 minutes before closing and found out that they we're suppose to be closing, but they reheated their pots and cooked for us. Great customer service! So how was the food? Fantastic.

To those that don't appreciate mayonnaise on a lobster roll, you have to ask how the salad is prepared. There are many ways to serve lobster rolls just like you might serve any other food - steak med rare, steak au poivre. Gilmore's is one of those barely, known hole-in-the-walls located practically under route one south in Bath. Stop in for amazingly huge orders of cheap fried clams - twice as much for half the price of many other businesses along route one. The lobster rolls are spectacular, also cheap and huge for the price and, yes, they come with mayonnaise. The part no one seems to have caught on to is that they serve live fresh lobsters caught right off the coast in Bath and you can get any size or shell hardness that you want and they are open year round. In addition, they have tons of fresh fish and and other crustaceans and othe rbivalve mollusks.

Can't believe someone would post "fail" about mayo on lobster rolls. Maine is known for lobster rolls more so than Connecticut. Not your taste? Fine, move on, but don't rate a place badly because you think you're above mayo. That said, I enjoyed our trip to this place. The prices were reasonable. We went with a fried clam platter and fried haddock. Yums. Lot of badness for you in those two plates but it tasted good. Folks inside were friendly. Cool to see their lobster "pound" right in the same area. They put raisins in their cole slaw. I have a serious aversion to raisins in food so I picked around them and enjoyed an otherwise tasty slaw. (raisins are a perfectly acceptable snack but I don't like to happen upon something squishy in my food) I'd guess it's among a favorite of the locals. As we sat outside eating, there was a steady stream of customers with ME license plates popping in, grabbing their food, and leaving. Not groups of tourists, like my husband and I, looking clueless. I would definitely visit if we're in that area again and I'd recommend you stop by there and enjoy!

An overall good lobster roll. The meat is sweet and delicious. I do like my lobster rolls to have a scant amount of mayo, but this roll might have had just a little too much. The lady waiting on me ran out of lobster salad and quickly prepared some more to fill our order and in her hurry might have been a little heavy handed with the mayo. The rolls were grilled which is good but they used way too much butter...not a fan of a super greasy roll. The onion rings were good but slightly overcooked..very dark brown. I have been here in the past and was much more impressed on other visits. I will definitely come again, but hope they can pay attention to the little details better.

I go to Gilmore's for fresh seafood at great prices. Not for prepared foods! If you're looking for fresh lobster, clams, sea bass, etc., then Gilmore's is a safe bet.

FAIL Why mayo on lobster rolls? Why Maine, Why? Lobster does not need mayo in my humble opinion. There may be a time or two, depending on the angle of the light that day, the direction of the wind, or the size of the lobster (i.e., who the heck knows why), you desire some 'light' mayo as they advertise on their lobster rolls. NOT LIGHT. Ugh. If the lobster wasn't already dead, it would have certainly drowned in the excess white oil slick on my average sized roll. Horrible drink selection ($2.75 for a 20 oz bottle soda, seriously?), clam cake that made me wonder if I suddenly developed a brain tumor for my horrible menu selection (have they discovered a previously unknown species of midget clams here in Maine?), shi*ty fries (lifeless, limp, and devoid of all flavor), and a location that makes some junk yards jealous...I'd say avoid this place. It's way, WAY overpriced for quantity and quality. $25+ just for my bad lunch. I don't yet know where to go in Bath...I've got at least three weeks to report back...but I know I'll never go here again. Yeah, I'm not local, but I spend every summer on the CT shore, so I know quality lobster rolls, fries, and calms. Perhaps it's a serviceable place to get wholesale stuff (aka at the Market). But as a takeout joint=FAIL. Just saying...

I liked Gilmore's. I'm not an expert on seafood prices, but I know that lobsters are usually expensive and I did not fall over when I got bill. The service was really friendly and helpful. I'd certainly recommend them based on that. Of course, it's fun to pick out your own lobsters and they tasted great! Thank you, Gilmore's.

Gilmore's has long been THE local place to buy your seafood in Bath (despite the fact that Plant's Seafood sponsored my rec soccer team in 1st grade). Opening a seasonal take-out window and putting up a few picnic tables was a fiscally sound and tasty idea. Don't be discouraged by the view or location (behind an abandoned gas station). Gilmore's is as fresh and real as it gets. It is the number one place I bring out of state visitors for a real Maine lobster roll (always very high on their list). Not only is it big, fresh, and made right, it won't break the bank either.

This is the place local's get their fresh seafood all winter long. By the pound, often fresh caught but sometimes frozen (like the maine shimp i picked up this past weekend). With Minus Six degree weather, they may have been flash frozen just lifting 'em out of the water. Who knows? Check out their lobster cakes and fishcakes - they microwave just great back home when you're hungry and nobody's open or it's just too darn cold to go back out. Happy winter.

It's been a few years since I last visited, but that last time was like a thin slice of heaven. If I recall correctly, this place is about the food not the ambiance. My dad and I thoroughly enjoyed our seafood at reasonable prices.
