I read all the yelp reviews before I went and again when I got home. Three stars and down... They were on the money! The food is TASTELESS! Even the salad they served was a house Caesar which was plain tasteless lettuce with some very hard shaved cheese on top. The cheese was either sitting out for a long time or was shaved from the rind. The side dressing that was on the plate was bad. Service was VERY slow. Even waiting for my change from the bill took so long the waitress apologized. I could not see the reason for this. As mentioned by others the flatware was so cheap it was unpleasant to eat with. I ordered veal and the sauce should have consisted of butter, lemon juice and wine yet the dish was served in a sauce that was thick and tasteless. The veal had no taste. I never add salt to food but tried it tonight. Had to try something. Don't know what more I can say. Everything is just TASTELESS. It's a shame as the presentation was nice and it was such a disappointment.

Fantastic! Fresh baked bread served roasted red pepper butter was delish followed by a pasta in a blush sauce that was loaded with lump crab meat. Service was excellent also! Very nice atmosphere nice little find in Hagerstown

I had a good experience at Carmine's! Our waiter warned us that portions were huge - I didn't even come close to making it halfway through my meal, but it was really good food for this neck of the woods. Drink special for the night was $2 bottled beer - not bad at all! They brought out some herby bread to start, along with our salads which were just okay. I ordered some dish with farfalle, a blush sauce, and crab in it. We split some cannoli for dessert - you get 3 little baby cannoli. They're pretty good! A bit more lemony than I've ever had. Service was decent but very friendly. I think this place is overpriced, and the decor could use some work. The utensils were really cheap and it felt odd to be eating an $18 pasta fish with some really crappy flatware, but these are minor complaints. It's a solid restaurant choice for this area.

I have been here multiple times and would venture to say it's a decent place to eat. I have tried the penne ala vodka, garlic and oil linguine, seafood lasagna, pepperoni pizza, and calamari. The penne ala vodka is one of their best dishes in my opinion. Everything else is substandard. The pasta is always cooked to perfection. It's a very homey place with a small dining area and service is not particularly quick. This place would be great, but I can't put my finger on what they particularly lack. A certain je ne se quois.

Listen up folks! If you haven't tried Carmine's yet, what are you waiting for? This is definitely a good place to go where you get quality food for very reasonable prices. I don't get there as much as I like because I live in PA, but when I get the chance, Carmine's is always a good choice. Every item I've had here has been top quality. Favorite so far, the bronzini or branzini (not sure of spelling!). It was the special that night. It's a fish from the Mediterranean. Carmines' was finished with a lemon sauce. The flavor was amazing. Hubby got a shrimp and pasta dish and had to take half home because there was so much food! I'd never heard of bronzini before--then this weekend I found it again in a restaurant in NYC. Carmine's was better! Can't wait to go back. Carmine's is located in a strip mall shopping center. The furnishings are very plain, but the decor, with personal photos and efficient servers make the experience very pleasurable.

Nice, clean, casual atmosphere. I am a second generation Italian American originally from New York. I hate to give poor reviews, especially since it seems Carmine was making an effort to cook a good meal, but this was far from the Italian cuisine that I am familiar with. If you are used to fine, Italian cuisine, do not go to Carmine's. Save your money and just go to your local pizza joint

How are people complaining about service? The service is too notch! Servers & busboys passed our table non stop. Not over bearing, but if our water or soda needed filling or an empty plate needed removing they were there. I enjoyed the food. It tasted fresh, newly made & every ingredient complimented each other. Though I would suggest that the anti pasti should be shared.the servings are more than generous to say the least. My wife didn't enjoy the calamari quite so much. The dipping source was missing spice. But her chicken masala was top notch. Four stars only because yep the dipping sauce needs changing. But nothing was without flavor quite as much as other reviewers would have you believe. Easily the best Italian in the area!

Amazing food. We were in awe with not only great food, but service and especially the dark horse cab! Will return for more!

Is this new yelp page an attempt to redeem their rating? Not sure but I'd do know that the food is plain and boring and the service is awful. Skip this one unless they change their recipes. How can they not have lasagne?

I am an avid restaurant goer in the area and I gave Carmine's a try recently because I've heard mixed reviews. I don't have any complaints about the quality of the food as it was actually quite good (and extremely large in portion size!) but in terms of atmosphere, it was not my style. I was expecting an Italian restaurant with dim lighting and maybe some candles. Nothing super fancy based on other reviews and the outside of the building but at least was expecting the Italian feel. Instead we sat in an awkwardly long room extremely close to a family under the brightest lights I've ever encountered in a restaurant. No music, just chatter from the kids close by. It felt more like a Chucky Cheese then an Italian cuisine restaurant which was disappointing because my husband and I were on our date night. I think this place has potential, if only they would fix up the atmosphere. Seems like a good place to bring the family but not for a date!

Scallops Sorrento. Order it. You will not be disappointed. Carmine is an awesome person with extraordinary talents in the kitchen. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly as well.

I have no clue what some of these ratings are talking about, certainly not the place I went to tonight with my fiancé. Our service was phenomenal, our waiter have us our space but always made sure we had full drinks and what we needed. And the food, I can't even begin to describe how tasty it was! We had the Crustini appetizer and it was delicious. Our entrees were both pasta with seafood and they were to die for. Not only were there fresh, perfectly cooked seafood, there was a lot of it! After being referred here by his parents who love the restaurant, we were not disappointed! I suggest if you had a bad experience to go back and give them another shot!

Outstanding Italian food from a guy that came over on the boat. I've been to Italy many times in many regions and his offerings are exactly the same that you will find over there. If you don't believe me, order a glass of Red and spend nine bucks on the meat and cheese tray for starters. If that doesn't close the deal then leave and go to Olive Garden like every other lemming in town. If you want to taste Italy, eat here. Then ask to meet the Chef. He's one nice guy.

Service was excellent but food disappointing. How can you make homemade meatballs with no taste? I had spaghetti and meatballs that had no flavor. And salad dressing had nice chunks of blue cheese but no flavor. My husband who is an ice tea drinker couldn't even drink it, it tasted so bad. He also said the Caesar salad dressing wasn't good. My meatballs were room temperature but nothing would help the no flavor. Don't know how they stay in business as I tried my husbands chicken fettuccine and it also lacked flavor.

We went there on a Saturday night at around 7, a party of 5, and the place was packed, not only for eat in diners, but take out, too. We did get seated immediately in one of the few tables that were left. Then, though, the wait began...and continued...and continued. The waitress brought us our menues and water and drinks immediately. She was friendly and had a smile on her face and was very attentive to refilling bread, water, soda, etc. After taking our orders, she brought the rolls...soft on the outside, crunchy on the outside, and warm. The butter, however, despite being hidden in little packets under the bread, was still solid and cold. We had to wait a long time for our salads...the waitress refilled the bread during that time, without being asked, but there really shouldn't be that long a wait for a salad. The salads were huge, much larger than side salads usually are, but, otherwise, nothing special (and no tomatoes, or even olives in the Mediterrian salad). After an even longer wait, our entrees finally arrived (we had been in the restaurant 1 1/2 hours at this point and we were trying very hard to entertain a hungry almost 2 year old). The portions were huge and the food was very, very good. I ordered a chicken dish in a white sauce, with mushrooms for $15 something (several others in the party ordered this also). My husband and daughter each ordered veal dishes for $16 something (very reasonable for veal) and said their food was delicious. The chicken dishes were also pronounced as delicious. The decor was plain, with paper placemats...a place with such outstanding food should upgrade their dining room to reflect the high quality and complexity of the food. If the decor had been more appealing, and the wait had been less, I would have given 5 stars. The food was outstanding, but the chef might want to consider more kitchen help, at least for the prep work, to keep things moving faster. The restaurant is located in a strip shopping center, so there is plenty of parking. They also have take out (pizza, esp. I think).

We had high hopes that this place would have good Italian food.. Boy were we wrong, service was mediocore at best.. And the food was the biggest let down.. Both our meals lacked flavor ... Needless to say we will not be returning here ..

It's a shame I have to give this place 2 stars, but the service is horrible. My husband and I have been twice, the first time being about two years ago. We remembered that the food was decent, but the service was incredibly slow. Fast forward to tonight and we decided to give it another shot. Different server, but same service. Ordered calamari appetizer, which was decent (breading didn't have much flavor), but we wanted lemons. The calamari came out hot, but by the time we tracked down the waitress and she actually brought the lemons, it was lukewarm at best. What a shame. Then we got our house salads, which was basically lettuce and croutons with one slice of cucumber. The house balsamic was very strong on the vinegar, I couldn't finish it. We never got the bread that was advertised with the dinners. Over an hour after ordering we finally get our meals. I got a shrimp special and my husband got the shrimp fra diavlo, which were both good, but a little skimpy on the pasta. For $19 a plate, I expected more. I ended up having to order a side of pasta for my daughter and she charged me for a kids spaghetti and meatball - $5.95. Way overpriced for a bowl of penne and sauce. Nothing special about the restaurant's looks. It's a shame the service has been so slow - almost two hours with a 3 year old is a little tough for dinner. Perhaps if the servers had designated sections instead of rotating tables between the front and rear of the restaurant, they would be more efficient.

We really enjoyed our dinner a few weeks ago! The Scallops Sorrento was awesome, huge scallops done just right w/crabmeat & a delicious sauce. The smaller version was plenty. My husband could only eat half the spaghetti & meatballs & we enjoyed the next night. $2 ice cold beers on Tuesday topped it off & our bill was quite reasonable! Will be back very soon!

We usually stop at Vince's for lunch or dinner, but decided to give this new place a try for lunch. Service was on the slow side, but acceptable as they were crowded. When we got our food, we could not figure out why the crowd. Pasta salad thick with strange ingredients and an "off" flavor. Meatballs in the sub should have been called "bread" balls and not enough sauce on the sub. My chicken tortellini soup was tasteless....as if they had diluted the chicken broth 1/2 and 1/2 w/water. We can get better food for less elsewhere and won't go back.

My husband and I tried this restaurant on a slow Monday night. When we walked in we were greeted promptly and given our choice of seating in a drab and dreary dining room. We chose to sit at a small table tucked away in the corner. We started our meals with their wonderful rolls which had a wonderful homemade, fresh taste. However we only received two rolls and were never offered more, even though we would've loved them, especially to sop up all the delicious sauce from our pasta dishes. Of which we ordered the Pasta Positano (Penne pasta with Tomato cream sauce with lump crab on top) and Cheese Ravioli. My husband wanted the Ravioli Parmesan but they said they were out. How can you be out of deep fried ravioli, but yet you have cheese ravioli. Isn't it just a matter of frying that cheese one? Anyways, we both ordered salads with our meal. Mine was a house salad with house made sun dried tomato dressing. The salad was fresh, but the dressing was a bit too cold and watery for my taste, rather bland. My husband ordered a Caesar salad. He loved the dressing, which I tasted, it was good. But he didn't like the green they used, too much iceberg and not mainly romaine like a Caesar should be. Our pasta dishes were very well prepared and tasty. The penne in my dish was al dente to perfection and the sauce flavorful. The only odd thing was that the jumbo lump crab in my dish was stone cold. I'm not if this was intentional so that the meat could be mixed into the hot pasta and sauce, therefore heating in through without toughening it. We finished with getting an order of cannoli to go. These things were so good, the cream was lemony with a crisp shell dipped in chocolate. Carmine's definitely beats out any chain restaurant for quality when it comes to Italian food. The service was of good quality too. However the decor needs some work, it needs some color on the walls to brighten up the place and linen table clothes would be a nice tough as well. Overall we enjoyed Carmine's and would come back again for other dishes to try.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
