Oliver Twist would be at a loss for words. I, like many others, got the Bun bo hue. But I butchered the pronunciation so harshly that our waiter let out a chuckle. "Can I get the Bun Boe Huey" Chuckle "How do you pronounce it?" Bun Bow Hway Kinda reminds me of the time I was auditioning for the fall play "It was a mere ... Fox Paws" audience bursts into laughter *It's Pho Pa "Oh..." *Face turning red* The soup a little less complex than I thought it was going to be, by looking at it. But, to be honest, that did not stop me from pour 1000 spoonfuls down my gullet at a meeting with a local community organizer. It had a the perfect amount of spice for someone like me. Someone who like's spice... but can't handle alot of spice. I would say a 5 on my 1-10 scale. Sidney (Community Organizer) recommended Saigonese and I'm glad that she did. That's three for three Sidney! Caramello, Thai Taste, and now Saigonese. I can't wait to eat what you suggest next. I took the liberty of getting a Banh Mi too. How could you not when they are 3.50? I decided to go adverturous with the Xiu Mai Ban Mi. Which I had to wikipedia before hand and found out that it was vietnamese meatballs in a sauce. I was a little surprised that it was served cold, but at the same time, this did not stop me from shoving half of the sandwich down my gullet. Service was good, waters were kept full. Atmosphere was nice... aside some rude ratchet B who decided to play loud latin music out of her phone while we were eating. Me and Sidney were like "uhhhhhhh". I'd definitely go back!

I've been to this restaurant several times, and I have to say this: Banh Mi. Banh Mi for lunch. Banh Mi for dinner. Banh Mi for a hearty snack. Over, and over, and over again. At $3 a pop, you really can't go wrong. Just remember to ask for the pate. The bread is perfectly baked with a firmer crust and soft middle. I had the pleasure of trying it right out the oven...and today, I'm tempted to go back for more. The shredded chicken was tasty, but next time it'll be grilled beef or chicken :) If you get a group together, its buy 5 get 1 free! They also have a good selection of soup (including pho) as well as tasty-looking vegetarian options. For this visit I tried the beef pho. It was tasty and well-prepared, however, it lacked that special kick. My guess is ginger, but it could also be the star anise. There simply wasn't enough oomph, and it needed a dash a sricacha. It also lacked cilantro, which really takes it down a notch. Or maybe I'm just obsessed with cilantro. Either way...meh. The beef in grape leaves were absolutely divine! I'm used to Greek-style dolmades, so this was an interesting take on it. The meat had a chewy texture that reminded me of a hot dog, but denser and minus the weird aftertaste. The Saigonese beef dish is also delicious, and contains enough meat for two people. The summer rolls were perfect with shrimp, sans pork. It's just fresher that way, and they're so tasty that peanut sauce can be an option not a requirement! If you're feeling adventurous, try the soup with pineapple! It's very tasty yet surprising...perfect for someone that enjoys the stranger food in life :D I'll be back...very soon.

OK. Normally, Saigonese is our go-to for cheap, tasty Vietnamese food. But last night was an epic fail. First, last night was the SECOND time we've gone to Saigonese, asked for a dish with no peanuts and then received an entree full of peanuts. What is going on here?! The waiter - who is delightful and very sweet - never writes anything down, and it seems to me that he should write down "no peanuts!" Honestly, people can get really sick from these kinds of mistakes. Second, we ordered the shrimp with lemongrass and red chili and what came out was shrimp with onions and green peppers - no lemongrass, no red chili. We called the waiter over and asked if we had indeed received the right order (remember: nothing is written down) and he said yes, so we indicated there was no lemongrass and no red chili. He said he'd "fix it." What came back was the same dish doused in chili powder. It was so violently red that it was inedible. Ultimately, we ended up ordering something else, and he removed the shrimp debacle from our bill. But it didn't make a very good impression. I still love their cheap banh mi, and their bun is very good. But, I wish the waiter would get a little note pad and use it when he is taking orders.

Servers are alittle slow but I'm not there for them! The food is great! The Banh Mi and Saigonese Steak is a must try. So delicious. You may also do Carry Out!

Best bánh mì in town. I am super picky when it comes to Viet food, but I can eat Saigonese's bánh mì all day! Their condiments vegetables and sub itself are always fresh! My favorite is their meatball sub. Red meat, ham, grilled meat, chicken are all good! Definitely recommend!

Since moving to DC five months ago from Little Saigon, I have been in search of authentic Vietnamese food with a variety of options. Thanks to my overwhelming craving for banh mi, I stumbled upon this place and was completely satisfied by the banh mi. I had grilled pork, grilled chicken, and meatball in the 5 + 1 deal and was very impressed. Prices were comparable to those in SoCal and they didn't skimp on the meat for me. Veggies included cucumbers and were right in portion to pair with the rest of the sandwich. Bread also was decent to chew. The only thing is that I wish they had boba, which would bring in a lot more customers, I think. True, I did not have a chance to try any of their dishes yet, but they seem to have all the staple Vietnamese dishes. Will be back to try some - update to follow.

Quickly sliding into downhill oblivion. At this point, the only thing worth getting are the sandwiches (as stated). Every now and then, we try their regular menu because they have things that Mi La Cay next door does not have and we liked Saigonese at one point, they used to be our go to Viet restaurant. First, price hikes to the kazoo. So much more expensive, but a far inferior quality. UH, does not make sense. That does not help you garner new customers. Second. Food is just becoming straight crap. I found their cold vermicelli noodle dishes good at one point but what we got last night was overcooked mush. I ordered the garlic shrimp and it was nowhere as many shrimp as you would think you would get paying 13, it was essentially a box of greasy sliced onions with three lettuce leaves and cold, overcooked, salty, fried shrimp plopped on top. Uh, if I wanted that I would have gone to a ghetto Chinese restaurant and paid a fraction of that and they would have been hot and not rubbery. And their restaurant smells nowadays, I kid you not. It's uncomfortable dining in an environment that smells like a musty bar rag.

This place is great. The bahn mi are the best. I love the buy five get one free deal. They pack them so they don't get soggy. The grilled dishes are also delicious. The service is fast and friendly, especially when Marco is there.

I loooove eating here! My favorite dish is the saigonese steak! I've looked for it in other restaurants but I have not been able to find it! The beef is so soft and I love the lemon pepper dipping sauce! It's all I get when I go there!

This rating is solely for the Bahn Mi. I've never eaten anything else here, and quite frankly, may never try anything else because of the bahn mi. The decor is terribly bare bones and the location is perhaps not the best. Also, the Vietnamese coffee is a little too bitter. But the bahn mi... Best bahn mi I've had is Bahn MI DC in Falls Church. Better than anything I've had at the Eden Center. The next best is Saigonese. So often, the bread makes all the difference in a Bahn Mi, and at least for right now, Saigonese has nearly perfect Bahn Mi bread. It's light, with just enough crunch on the outside accompanied by a lovely airiness on the inside. The whole thing has a perfect light, bready, wheat flavor. The meats I've had (grilled pork and red pork) were both excellent, though I could have used a tad more meat in the grilled pork. Pickled veggies were perfect and although a touch more meat would have been preferable, the whole sandwich was really well balanced. For $3, I'm a happy and full customer. Also, if you dig the pickled veggies, ask for extra veggies on your sub, it won't cost you any extra. Also, just based on the one guy behind the counter when I stop in for my weekly bahn mi, the folks who work here seem like nice people.

I was disappointed about my most recent visit. I had come here a few times for the bahn mi and appetizers and been satisfied. However, the last time I came here I got the usual chicken bahn mi that I order, and was really disappointed to find myself practically sleeping in the bathroom later that night from food poisoning. I didn't feel well for the next 24 hours. Every time I come here, I do notice there is a potent bathroom scent which I think is because the bathroom was so close to the dining room. But this is also something that is not appealing about coming here. I don't think I will be returning. Although, I think the sandwiches are pretty good I don't want to risk another food poisoning incident.

Very no-frills restaurant with a great menu. Lots of tasty vegetarian options. Everything is very reasonably priced. Service was quick and friendly, with some language issues. If you are having trouble deciding what to get, ask for a recommendation. We ordered only what they recommended and every single dish was fantastic. We even ordered a large bag of bahn mi to go. The bahn mi could have been a little better filled. At $3 a pop, you can't complain, but i'd almost rather have a single $6 bahn mi with double stuffing than 2 whole sandwiches. The bread is great and the fillings are too. All in all, a very nice choice for quick, no-frills, cheap and delicious vietnamese food. Bonus points for a great (a whole page) vegetarian menu.

The Banh mi's here are DELICIOUS!!! The beef in grape leaves are great and the egg rolls with sauce is good. The vermicelli noodle salads are ehh....nothing to really go crazy over. They do skimp on the meat though.

All of my reviews to date have been for food I experienced while traveling, but I felt I had to take a moment to write a quick review for a favorite close to home! I just love, love, love their bahn mi sandwiches! And buy 5 get one free is just icing on the cake! Made a day trip to Philly yesterday where my sister has encouraged me many times to have bahn mi there but just had this on Sunday and have a hard time believing it can be beat! Our favorite is the grilled pork and the red meat (pork). Ask for your veggie toppings on the side and this makes a great picnic. It even holds up in the fridge the second day- if you didn't manage to scarf it all down in a single sitting! :) I believe they bake their own bread. It is perfection! The only thing bad I have to say is that you will be left with lots of crumbs on your shirtfront after eating. Small price to pay :)

I went here exclusively for bahn mi after I found out that Costco had already closed for the day-- had to get over my depression somehow. I got two BBQ pork bahn mi to go. Price is $3 per sandwich and buy 5 get one free (what's with the prices for bahn mi in MD?) The breakdown is as follows: Roll (most important part): fantastic. crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside with a great almost sourdough-like flavor. really good roll Pork: in the words of Larry David, pretty, pretty good. Would prefer more char but nice chunks with good flavor. overall some tasty pork Veggies: Fresh, flavorful, Good amount of peppers Could have been better if.....there was a pate spread and more fish sauce Good sandwich and will make me think about not driving over to NOVA for a banh mi, but I probably will anyway to what all the fuss is about. Of note, Saigonese Restaurant also has crepes, which is awesome.

It's hard for me to walk by a place that has a sign for $3 Banh Mi in the door and not go in to try. It's actually a problem. I love this baguette dish so much that I am worried about what might happen when I finally make it over to Eden Center in Falls Church......I just can't say no.....and that is the story of how I found this restaurant. I ordered the grilled chicken to go. The chicken was really tasty and had the right amount of charcoalness going on. In my book it's a pretty fine line between being tasty grilled chicken to tasting like I am licking the grill.....and luckily Saigonese restaurant knew what they were doing. I thought the baguette was nice as well. Not too hard. My only recommendation would be to put more yummy goodness inside. There was a little bit of everything I like, I would have just been happy if there was a lot of all that makes the Banh Mi my favorite take on the sandwhich.

I had just listened to Faith Middleton's radio show, which on Wednesdays features The Food Schmooze, and it was all about Bánh Mì. Though I have heard about them, I had never had one on my many trips to Vietnam or to Amercan Vietnamese restaurants, where i usually get pho. I decided to hop over to Wheaton and try one. I got the grilled pork sandwich and also ordered a fried egg roll. The sandwich was good, the meat tasty, but it was rather thin on all the fillings, vegetables and meat. Since it is only $3.50, I think next time I'll order extra everything! They make their own bread and it is good. The egg roll was good and the wrapper was a bit thicker and crunchier than the usual chinese egg roll; I don't know whether they make their own.

I need to come here more often. Also, I don't know why I haven't reviewed this place yet. Started off with cha gio. They were so good. Not a fan of the red pepper they have here though. For dinner, my father an I ordered the ca kho, canh chua & bo luc lac. They were all excellent orders. I wish the canh chua didn't come with celery though. I'll have to request that next time. I don't think that's a vietnamese thing... not sure though. Either way, I'm not a fan of celery. The subs from here are also really great. As always, I'll be back!

Decent pho soup dives are a dime a dozen in this area, but good banh mi sandwiches are much harder to find. This joint has great banh mi sandwiches! The grilled pork followed by the red meat banh mi are the best. Try them both. They have an extensive Vietnamese menu, which I've heard is quite good, but I'm unashamed to say that I always get the banh mi as I often end up getting pho and other dishes at other restaurants between visits to the Saigonese. If you are looking for banh mi - go here! If you've never had a banh mi sandwich - go here!

This is a consistently excellent small family owned and operated restaurant. We have been going there so long that we have seen their children grow up and become fine young people who always do their best. They exhibit a lot of pride in their restaurant and they have a great work ethic. The restaurant is always clean and the food is always good and generous. Their lemon chicken is delicious as are their curries and other Vietnamese specialties. Considering their overhead, their prices are certainly fair and reasonable. The bathrooms are always clean and well stocked with all of the necessaries. We recommend this restaurant to all of our friends and they have all thanked us.

This is a review for the banh mi sandwich only I love finding new Vietnamese places and actually found this place quite serendipitously. I was on my way to get a frosty from Wendy's and took a wrong turn. Located in a Hispanic strip mall that was Saigonese. There menu was vast, but I decided on getting banh mi since that's what most of the reviews were centered on. One my favorite things about Vietnamese sandwich shops is seeing all the deli meat laid out in perfect stacks and salivating while the sandwich is being crafted. Unfortunately all the magic here is hidden in the back. My first impression of the sandwich was it's size. This sandwich is huge. I was soon disappointed though when I began to dissect the sandwich. Firstly there wasn't much filling; the ham that was there looked that the cheap-o ham you get when you can't afford boar's head. As far as taste, the sandwich is a bit bland and overall lacking flavor. The highlight was the pate with its deep and complex iron taste and creamy mouth feel, but even this wasn't enough erase the prior criticisms I think I'll be back, but it won't be for sandwiches...

Their sandwiches are amazing!!!! Ive been coming here for years and have introduced many people to this place, and they all agree that the sandwiches are amazing. I also love their lemongrass chicken with vermicelli noodles. Their soups are ok. Not the best, but not terrible either.

Before I even start to review, let me preface by saying that I've only been here to grab a few Banh Mi sandwiches. The exterior of the restaurant looks pretty sketch but it's surprisingly nice and clean when you enter. The only reason why I'm giving 3 stars is because I'm a little butthurt over the lack of meat put into the sandwiches. I bit into the sandwiches more than twice and didn't get any meat in the bite. Come on, man. I know I shouldn't complain too much at $3/sandwich but I'd at least like to eat what I ordered (in my case, grilled pork and meatball). I'll probably go back and get more, because they're the cheapest sandwiches ever, but I might ask that they try putting some meat in the sammies. I'll probably get wads of spit instead. Darn.

  • Evil D.

This place is awesome. They get 5 stars for the banh mi alone. Three bucks for an awesome sandwich all day every day. And it's true, they do tend to skimp on the meat a bit, but at least with the grilled pork, which is what I always get, you can get double meat for another couple of bucks and it's definitely worth it. I'd imagine they wouldn't have a problem putting double meat in any of the other sandwiches; everyone I've ever dealt with there has been super nice and have happily honored just about any request I've made. It's still only 5 bucks with the double meat, and it's a WAY better sandwich than you'll get at say, Subway, for the same price. And always get an extra one (or three). You know you'll want it later (and your friends are going to want one too).

Much more than just a place to get good banh mi, Saigonese Restaurant has one of the most extensive Vietnamese menus in the area. You really can't go wrong with any of their food offerings (especially the grilled fare, which always comes prepared with just enough char to add an extra dimension to each bite, but not too much that you start to think about polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), and they've also got a great beverage menu to boot, too! N.B. - They have one (maybe two) types of pho, and I doubt that they sell extra servings of noodles or meats. If you're not particularly picky about your meat toppings, the broth is excellent; otherwise, venture elsewhere for a proper selection of Vietnamese noodles...

The food was so good we ordered take out from here two nights in a row! The fried spring rolls and grilled pork (#76) were excellent. The lemongrass chicken was good too. Make sure you park across the street in the big parking lot, bring quarters.

I have only gotten carry out from here, and mainly just the banh mi. They advertise that they bake their own bread, which I believe since it tastes fresh and yummy. It comes with pickled radish/carrots, cilantro, cucumber, and jalapenos. I've tried their combination and grilled chicken, both were good. Buy five get 1 free! Highly recommended, but I can't speak for the other dishes. I ordered an iced coffee once and it was more like iced condensed milk with a touch of coffee. Way too sweet for my taste.

I love food and have been going to many restaurants in the DC area 3 times a week just to look for some good quality food at a reasonable price, and this one is on top of my list. This restaurant is one of the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant I had in a while in the DC area. Many dishes here reminded me of the home cook meal I had from one of the Vietnamese lady who used to cook for us. The quality of the food is good, the price is very reasonable, the service was great, and the location is very close from the Wheaton Metro Station. From the outside the restaurant does not look very appealing but inside the restaurant is very clean and the presentation of the food are very appealing compared to many other individual own restaurants I been to. What I like about this restaurant is the choices I get on the menu and not just the typical pho dishes I get in a Vietnamese restaurant. One of the dishes I ordered, lemongrass chicken, is too salty. But if you minus the salt, it is still very tasty and lots of great fragrance comes out from the dish. Other than that, the rest of the dishes I ordered are fabulous. I even ordered couple dishes to go (since I have to travel 30mins to this place through metro), and they were still amazing after I had it the next day. This tells me how fresh it was made. This is like a little gem I found. Highly recommend this place. These are the food I ordered in the restaurant: -Spring Roll (I called it cold roll) -lemongrass chicken These are the food I ordered to go: Spring Roll, but without the shrimp Grilled Chicken Shredded pork vermicelli.

I'm giving this place 3.5 stars because I went here for the banh mi combination sandwich and despite the yummy crusty bread and the deliciousness of this $3 sandwich, this banh mi had no pate on it. Now I am not Vietnamese but I have been eating these sandwiches since my Vietnamese friend and former roommate introduced them to me back in 1994. I have never ordered a combination sandwich that didn't have mayo and pate on it. What gives Saigonese Restaurant? Despite the lack of mayo and pate (next time I'll add my own) I will definitely be back. Great bread, lots of filling (hope that's consistent) and my two daughters ordered the vegetarian banh mi and loved it!! I think they said it had rice on it and some kind of stick fries but I can't verify this because we were in a dark car eating them and they devoured it before I could take a look. We ordered the last four sandwiches of the evening because that is all the bread they had left. I would love to go back and try some of the other versions and I hope they won't skimp on the meat like some other yelpers have stated. We also had a hard time finding parking and had to drive around a few times in the lot across the street until someone pulled out. I will update the review after I have tried a few more sandwiches and a few of the other dishes. And I will also ask about the pate and mayo and see if it's an option to add to my combination sandwich. If it had those things it may have certainly topped my experience at DC Sandwiches in Virginia but it would certainly be a fine place to go to grab one if I don't want to drive all the way to VA. Until next time.

This place is great! I love their rice vermicelli dishes and their summer rolls. The rice vermicelli is nice and thin and it comes in a bowl with fish sauce and a healthy mix of lettuce, carrots, mint, and some other vegetables and crushed peanuts. We usually order it with an imperial roll and charcoal grilled pork. The cost is just $7.75 per dish and they provide a delicious pot of hot tea without any extra charge so my husband and I can each order one for dinner and it costs us just $20 including tax and tip!

I usually find a lot to criticize about restaurants. I can find no negatives about this one. It is tops! Unusual among vietnamese restaurants in that one can get banh mi (vietnamese subs) in addition to a full menu of hot and cold dishes. The pho, chaiyo, and barbecued beef on skewer are totally awesome and delicious. the service is very friendly and I love the decor with a large collection of traditional musical instruments on the wall. I like to bring my friends who have never had vietnamese food. In every case, they were thrilled. A thoroughly delightful evening. jim in silver spring

Banh Mi was good, although I would like it toasted and served warm. Also had the caramel fish. Excellent. Full of MSG. So tasty. The texture of the fish was just awesome. Highly recommend it.

My parents love to get the thit bo la nho (beef stuffed grape leaves) to go. So we always go there to get carryout. This was the first time I sat down and ate there. I went with two other people. We all have very different tastes in food and we all got very different dishes. None of us really liked our dishes... When we first walked in there was only two other people there eating so we figured it was open. But a couple minutes passed and no one came to seat us so we almost left because we thought it was closed. After a while did the back door finally open and someone came to talk to us. What I found out later was that every time the front door opened a tune would play in the back. Loudly. There was no excuse for us having to wait that long... There were at least two waiters (for 5 customers total?!) and a couple of people in the back (we could hear them laughing loudly about something... and we waited almost ten minutes to be seated... wth. I got the caramel pork which was just really oily thit kho (braised pork?). It was alright... but super salty and super oily. I drank like a bottle or two worth of water when I got home. I was impressed though by our waiter's knowledge of the menu. There are sooooo many options but whenever we said a number he knew it before we could even say what it was.

I will begin by saying I eat a lot of Vietnamese food. Saigonese is probably one of the only Viet places I eat in the Wheaton / Silver Spring area. I have probably tried just about everything there! The imperial rolls are crisp to perfection! I love that they are super crunchy and the filling in the rolls are super flavorful. (I'm really picky when it comes to spring rolls, and these are my fave!) Beef wrapped in grape leaves are great too. The meat is super juicy and tasty, and the grape leaves have a great texture as well. The Banh Mi is always good, the bf & I usually get combination and pork. Since we cant pick which one we want, we tear them in half and share. I am a fan of the caramelized pork, bun bo hue, vermicelli bowls, and canh chua. (woops, that's almost everything...) Oh! A huge plus is that you can request brown rice! Yay! I am definitely a fan of Saigonese Restaurant and will always come back! Side note: I almost forgot (I don't know how) but yeah, iced coffee is always on point! Edit 8/30/13-- I can't believe I forgot to add how great the service is. The waiters are knowledgeable on all of the dishes and can make great recommendations and are very quick to take care of whatever you need. I always have a very pleasant experience going to Saigonese Restaurant.

Been here many times. Rated the place 4 stars, but now i'm going to take a star away from you. Bahn Mi, gooood. Grill Pork, gooood. Grill Pork Bahn Mi, a MOTHER EFFIN RIIIIP OFF!! Don't be cheap on the meat. What da hell? On the entire sub, i got 4 little pieces of meat! If the sub was hopscotch, the meat was on 1, 4, 7, and 10. Luckily, i ended up getting TWO Grill Pork Bahn Mi, and had to combine the meat to fill in the gaps to make ONE sub. I'll throw in a positive to end this review. Combination Bahn Mi on the other hand is very good. .:my2cents:. Put some more meat into the Grill Pork Bahn Mi, get that star back! Don't be cheap! Stop ripping people off with lack of portions.

My husband and I recently tried banh mi sandwiches for the first time at a place in DC, got addicted to the awesome combo of pickled veggies and french bread, and decided we needed to find a spot to get them closer to home. Fortunately, Saigonese Restaurant fits the bill. We opted to just get a couple of sandwiches as takeout because based on other Yelpers' reviews this struck me as a hole-in-the-wall spot. I was surprised to discover that it's actually a fairly large sit-down restaurant with an okay atmosphere (nothing to rave about, but better than I was anticipating). Background music was conspicuously missing, though, which made me feel like we were making a bit of a scene in the quiet space as we ordered our meal and the waitstaff fussed over our baby. Still, I'd consider dining in next time instead of just grabbing sandwiches and fleeing. As for the sandwiches, for three bucks you can't beat them. I thought they'd be mini sandwiches for that price, but my baguette was almost a foot long! I suppose the filling is a bit skimpy for a person with a big appetite--my husband did mention that he wished he had ordered two sandwiches--but for me it was the perfect size for lunch. Plus even if you do have to order two sandwiches to fill up, that's still only $6 for a lunch. Awesome. Fresh, flavorful, and a great bargain in my mind. Not being banh mi experts, we ordered one combo sandwich and some type of pork sandwich, which resulted in both of us getting a "cold cut" sandwich. That's too bad because I really wanted to try one of their grilled varieties. Oh well, guess we'll have to go back again!

went here with a bunch of people for dinner, and we all shared 5 entrees and 3 appetizers. everything we ordered was outstanding, we couldn't understand why no one else was eating here, but later realized that they were about to close. You can't go wrong with the beef wrapped in grape leaves. also, anything with pork or lemongrass will surely satisfy vietnamese food lovers. I've had banh mi here too, which I took to go. It was so good I couldn't put it down while driving. Would not recommend eating banh mi while driving, but highly recommend this $3 sandwich that deliciously combines the west with the east. buy 5 get 1 free!

I stopped in again to get a super cheap banh mi. I was there first thing in the morning, and boy oh boy... It turns out the reason the bread is so good is because they bake it fresh in house every morning. The whole place smelled of rising and baking bread, one of my favorite aromas. The sandwich was once again very good.

I've only been here to get my banh mi fix...im so glad i ditched Ba Le in Langley park...that lady at the register always gave me the creeps...and was kinda mean... so the baguettes here are thinner, crispier, and much lighter in texture- Ba Le uses like this fat ass dense bread...which you will shred the roof of your mouth on... so they have increased the price on all the sandwiches to 3.00...and they also decided to partake in the 5 cent bag cost if you order carry out (i dont think restaurants are supposed to do this...but meh) i always get the grilled pork...i wish it had more meat in it but for 3.00...i shouldnt complain :) *tip* if you do the carry out and get the special (buy 5 get 1 free), ask for all the pickled veggies to be packaged on the side. the sandwiches then last all week in my fridge and when i want one, i just take one out, stick it in the toaster oven or microwave (30 sec) and then fix it up with pickled veggies...i prefer the microwave lol because i can only take so much shredding of the roof of my mouth when i eat crispy french bread...but i think any banh mi eater knows what im talking about. as for the other food, one day i do plan to try!! oh, if you are wondering about the wine...if you walk up to the counter you can see the boxed franzia wines they have lined up...high class ya knooo???

I knew I was late to the Banh Mi fan club when I tried it a few years, but when I tried out this place, I was saddened by what I had been missing out on! I happened to try out this place with my husband and friends on a daytrip to Maryland, and I am at once thrilled and saddened at its existence: Thrilled at the AWESOMENESS, and saddened that it's so far away from me. Their Banh Mi is the best I have tried, and I've tried quite a few places in the area. Their bread is JUST right; their pickled veggies are crispy, tangy and sweet; and their meats are fantastic. We even took my picky-eater FIL here, and even he with his bland taste was able to find something he liked on the menu. Oh, and you know their whole "buy 5 banh mi, get 1 free" deal? Yeah, do it. Try ALL of them. And make sure to pick up some of their freshly-baked banh mi baguettes for later, too.

There are a lot of mediocre vietnamese restaurants in Mont. County. This is not one of them. Though the locals rave about the subs, the other food is pretty darn good too This place is worth a try.

I gave this place 5 stars b/c it is my Fav Vietnamese restaurant =) The sandwiches are delicious and cheap ! I recommend meatball or cured pork. $ 2.50 for a sandwich The vermicelli dishes are great, and i like the painting of the waterfall, with the fish tank below it on the wall. It makes it look like they are swimming below the water in the painting. The Pho is a little over priced here compared to other spots, and not much selection in that sense. I'd stick to the rice / noodle dishes, but seriously though, 2 healthy, tasty sandwiches for 5 bux ! You can't beat it and you'll be full too.

Very tasty, cheap banh mi! My favorite is the grilled pork, which is marinated in a sweet sauce. Good bread, yummy pickled veggies! This is a great place to stop by after a trip to the mall - better and cheaper than anything you could find in the food court.

This is the best Banh mi I've had in the DC area, thus far. The bread is the perfect balance of crunchy, but not hard. The grilled pork and the grilled chicken are phenomenal. I don't know what seasonings they use for marinating, but it is delicious. I will definitely be back!

3 Stars for the Banh Mi...because its 3 dollars....man makes me wanna holla! 2 stars for everything else. I reallly want to like this place but man even for a no frills restaurant pretty empty during the daytime. But the last time I came here I ordered a chin with meatballs and couldn't even enjoy the rest of it because there are 3 other places in the area with better pho. Gotta love this joint for the banh mi though....ask for extra veggies and you won't be disappointed. The veggie and the shredded pork is my favorite but the grilled chicken is good as well. The pate is flavorful and in abundance. 5 and 1 for free....kinda makes me feel like a sucka everytime I go in...but I do every single time. Enjoy this treat for sandwiches maybe I'll give the food another go next time. Cheers!

So they started skimping on their food and kept the prices the same. The sandwiches used to be packed with meat. Now its bread and a third less of the meat and its not as fresh. Disappointed.

Surprisingly large menu, spanning everything from Banh Mi, Pho, and other Vietnamese dishes. Never been a big fan of Banh Mi, so I never tried it. However, many of their dishes have a stronger taste than other Vietnamese restaurant that I tried. Saying that, their Pho are surprisingly bland. FYI, the prices on the sign outside are outdated.

I usually just get banh mi here but recently I gave this restaurant another try after years of not dining here because of previous bad experiences. I'm glad I did because I ordered bun bo hue and it was pretty good! Not spicy at all and I would have preferred a bit more spice, but it's better than me suffering from it being too spicy, I guess. The com tam thit nuong (broken rice with grilled pork) was also pretty good - tasty and good size portion. This place is nice and clean. Will definitely be back to dine-in again. Banh mi (Viet subs) are a must! The butter and paté they use is delicious!

Saigonese is a frequent stop for us. We've eaten in a few times but generally get take out. Service has always been fast and friendly, even at busy times. As others have mentioned, the bahn mi is delicious. The fresh bread really sets their sandwiches apart from some others I've had in the area. I usually get the pork bahn mi and have never been disappointed.

My coworkers put in a mass lunch order every once in a while from here and it's delicious! Fresh bread as they advertise and the price is great. Decently sized sandwiches for only 3.50, yup I'm a fan. Haven't tried other items on the menu though.

Darn.

Their sandwiches are amazing!!!! Ive been coming here for years and have introduced many people to this place, and they all agree that the sandwiches are amazing. I also love their lemongrass chicken with vermicelli noodles. Their soups are ok. Not the best, but not terrible either.

Banh Mi was good, although I would like it toasted and served warm. Also had the caramel fish. Excellent. Full of MSG. So tasty. The texture of the fish was just awesome. Highly recommend it.

This is one of the best Vietnamese cuisine place in the Wheaton area. I am definitely a fan of this place. Trust me I'm Vietnamese and I know my viet food haha. I will eat there again! :D

Who doesn't love good prices and a clean restaurant. So I went here after reading a review about Sprig&Sprout (and not being able to find parking). So I pull up right infront of the building and am very surprised with the cleaniliness of the place. Like another reviewer state this place is CLEAN. I don't think of most hole in the walls as being spotless. There were a few people dining. I go straight to the back to place my order. The pictures at the door and by the register were very helpful. Buy 5 sandwiches and get 1 free? Awesome. I order three-vegetarian, grilled chicken and shredded chicken. I sit down and the waiter brings my order to me very quickly. So late and hungry I jump in the car and immediately open my vegetarian sandwich. YUMMY. Wish I had soda to wash it down with. My husband eats one of his and takes the other one to lunch the next day. He can be a picky eater. I was surprised he ate it no questions and did not take anything off. He liked the grilled chicken best. The bread/meat ratio wasn't bad at all. For $9, perfect meal for us. We would go back to dine in, they had alot of great choices to pick from. Thanks Giovanni B

Great for carryout. I wouldn't really take my family to eat a meal there because of the subpar layout which is too bad, because I would love take my family and friends there if only they would improve their look. I've only had the banh-mi's. Although I was initially surprised by how skinny the baguette was, for $3, the banh-mi's are a great deal. The buy 5, get 1 free deal makes the deal even better. My favorites are the red meat and combo. I've tried the vegetarian, and it was less than average but edible. My brother likes the roasted pork.

Alright, so i heard about this place from my Aunt. She is a Chinese with Vietnamese influence (i think she was raised in Vietnam)? anyways, so told me that this place has really good banh mi. She said it was better than bale (on Rockville Pike) or anything in Eden center. Immediately i knew i had to check this place out. The strip mall it resides in seems pretty new, so thus the restaurant itself is seemingly clean/new I only got the Banh Mi from this place, so this is what my whole review is based on. They have a deal of buy 5 sandwiches and get 6th free so naturally being asian, that hooked me to get 6. (each of which only ranging from $2.50-$3, CHEAP!!) I got the combo (2), roasted red pork (kinda like the chinese cha sau), vietnamese ham, chopped chicken, and beef. As for the different flavors, i guess its up to who likes what. they were all pretty good, but my fav is still Combo. The french bread they use tastes freshly baked. its not rubbery and hard (like bale after 15minutes of getting the sandwich). The bread has a flaky exterior only to bite into a fluffy center, perfection!. What really got me was the mayo. Im pretty sure they hand make their own mayo from scratch. they mayo is yellowish and you can taste the slight egginess it was made from soo delicious! The pickled veggies (radish and carrots) where marinated perfectly, kinda sour with a hint of sweetness, nothing over powering, also it was all fresh and crunchy nothing slimy. I am most def gonna head back here for my banh mi fix. Ill update this post if i try out any of their regular dishes!

I usually just get banh mi here but recently I gave this restaurant another try after years of not dining here because of previous bad experiences. I'm glad I did because I ordered bun bo hue and it was pretty good! Not spicy at all and I would have preferred a bit more spice, but it's better than me suffering from it being too spicy, I guess. The com tam thit nuong (broken rice with grilled pork) was also pretty good - tasty and good size portion. This place is nice and clean. Will definitely be back to dine-in again. Banh mi (Viet subs) are a must! The butter and paté they use is delicious!

This is a great place to stop by after a trip to the mall - better and cheaper than anything you could find in the food court.

went here with a bunch of people for dinner, and we all shared 5 entrees and 3 appetizers. everything we ordered was outstanding, we couldn't understand why no one else was eating here, but later realized that they were about to close.

Live in Moco and crave banh mi but don't want to trek all the way to Eden? This is your spot! Their banh mi is way better than those from Bale that closed down on 355. The bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They're a little skimpy w/the pate, but the flavors are there. 4 stars strictly for banh mi! Parking kinda sucks here since it's all metered until like 6pm daily except Sunday when it's free all day. On the plus side, it's only 50c/hr (that's why I said "kinda"). Pho is surprisingly tasty, but it's more expensive and smaller than Pho 75, which is still my go-to place for pho. I had one other vermicelli dish there and it was okay... nothing I would be craving any time soon. Bottom line... save yourself the gas money driving to Eden, the banh mi here is priced right and will satisfy your cravings! Oh and one more thing they take credit card!

The best banh mi in this area. You cant go wrong with 3 dollar sandwiches made fresh and ready in about four minutes. The veggie sandwich is amazing. Ask for fried onions on top and some chili sauce too:) The restaurant itself doesn't have much for atmosphere, but it's quiet and the service is good.

Very inexpensive and decent Vietnamese basic cuisine. They do have pho, but it is not a pho place. There are several dishes that are offered with either rice or vermicelli. I got a #2, which is a dish that consists of a pork and crab meat filled fried crispy roll , sliced up, atop vermicelli and veggies ( bean sprouts, lettuce, cucumbers, cilantro, etc.) It was delicious with the typical sweet vinegar sauce on the side. My friend ordered a chicken and shrimp salad, which came with just 2 shrimp, but was mouth watering with pickled veggies and Vietnamese chicken loaf sliced into the veggies. For $6.50 per order, these dishes were very filling and tasty.

This used to be my favorite place in the area. Such wonderful food but one day I saw a roach floating in my soup and I have never been back. other then the sandwiches this place is absolutely terrible! The night we went they had one waiter for the entire place. He completely forgot one of our dishes. I stopped by for a late lunch mid afternoon. There was only one other table with patrons. I didn't mind since I figured I could have a leisurely lunch in a quiet setting. I ordered the grilled beef with vermicelli which took under five minutes to come out. That was the first red flag. Secondly the noodles were cold. I HATE COLD FOOD! It was so cold they HAD to know it was that cold. The dish felt haphazardly thrown together so that the staff could go back to browsing vietnamese newspapers. A mcdonaldesque attitude masked by nice smiles. There are many Vietnamese spots to give your money to. I do not recommend giving it to this one

Stopped in for a quick dinner this past week as we were craving hot noodle dishes close to home. The atmosphere of this restaurant is very casual, and the service was prompt, helpful, and friendly. I ordered the vegetarian imperial rolls and the vegetarian noodle soup. The soup was fresh and hit the spot after I splashed in some sriracha. While the imperial rolls were really delicious, I wasn't a fan of the oil they were fried in- I couldn't decide whether the oil wasn't fresh or was a blend my palate didn't enjoy. Husband tried the beef noodle soup and said it was quite satisfying. For the prices and selection on the menu (they have an extensive vegetarian selection), this restaurant is a decent local spot for casual vietnamese fare, and we may return, especially as husband wants to try the recommended banh mi here (and dislikes driving all the way out to Ba Le in Rockville for it).

I wanted to try a new restaurant and got the name of this place off a local vegetarian website as a veg friendly restaurant. As the waiter placed my appetizer bowl of soup in front of me, a roach ran off the saucer. I was grossed out and that was it for me. Never again to that place. Obviously I was very disappointed.

My husband and I get take out from this place all the time. It's a dive, so I wouldn't really recommend dining in here, although we have done that once or twice. We always, always get the vegetarian gluten curry, extra spicy. It has amazing flavors and probably one of the best dishes that I have had in my life! Definitely order it if you go. We have also tried some noodle dish which was just ok. Seeing one of the reviews about a cockroach makes me think twice about going here, however. :(

I still feel bad about seeing that, I probably would still be considering it my favorite restaurant in Wheaton. I can't go back to not knowing, so I won't be back. Really too bad.

They have a great vegetarian menu. I would recommend the vegetarian imperial rolls, the vegetarian summer rolls, and the lemongrass gluten. Affordable and delicious.

other then the sandwiches this place is absolutely terrible! The night we went they had one waiter for the entire place. He completely forgot one of our dishes. The pho soup was not hot enough to cook the meat. The food came out in bunches and was cold. I will admit that the sandwich was very very good and inexpensive.

The entrees are just "OK"... but, the Imperial Rolls are awesome. The Pho was pretty good, too. Great place for take out.
