O...M...G.... Don't judge a book by its cover. This little restaurant is a diamond in the rough! My husband and I had the Jason burrito, it is the best thing I've ever tasted! Even the fries were tasty! They make EVERYTHING fresh as soon as you order. Plus it's every cheap, I think it was $8 when it should've been at least $12. Everyone should try this place!

Wow. I've been going to Chicken Rico for 10 years in Baltimore, but I've got another place now that I can call just as good, except with better service. The owner... let's just put it this way. THis guy goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and really cares about the individuals who grace his establishment. That's something every business owner should make note of. Food was wonderful. Maybe CHicken Rico is a tick above, but what more than makes up for, is the customer service and the fact that you're helping out a kind-hearted small business owner in a LITERAL hole-in-the-wall location. It's fairly close to Towson Mall too so it's not hard to find. Give it a try if you do go. A few quick notes for easy ordering: 1. If you're hungry go with the 1/2 chicken platter. 2. My favorite sides are the rice (if it isn't busy with people, ask for the beans on top and he'll acquiesce.) Fried plantains are amazing as well (these are done much better than CHicken Rico.) 3. Libations-wise, try the authentic Pepsi in the bottles. Really good.

Loved this place. Got some really good Peruvian chicken, with plantains and cassava on the side and an horchata, all for less than $10. Despite the price, it was all excellent. Service is friendly. Can't go wrong here.

I was prepared for a hole-in-the wall, but my first visit was after dark on a rainy Tuesday and it was downright intimidating. They have a stove, grill and rotisserie cooker visible just behind the counter - but no cooking was going on. The place appeared abandoned. The woman taking our order was unenthusiastic about the process. We sat and shared a coke underneath the sad old pinatas and tried to identify all the latin american flags on the walls. Eventually, our chicken appeared from the back, with sides of rice and yucca. Chicken was fantastic - wonderfully seasoned and juicy. It was everything we were hoping for. Only the French Fries were a disappointment - starchy and not very crisp - though that didn't stop the kid from plowing thru them. Great meal, dirt cheap price, one star off for atmosphere.

This is my go to place for quality mexican food at a great price. Although it doesn't look like much from outside, the food is absolutely incredible and the owner/employees treat you like family. They offer a wide range of items, of which I usually get a cheese enchilada and plantains (though anything with meat is thoroughly amazing as well). The rice and beans that come with most meals is unique and delicious and the guacamole is always prepared fresh. Pollo also offers non-standard soft drink choices that I would recommend trying. I will continue to be a loyal customer and will recommend this place to anyone I come across who wants a good mexican meal.

I finally went over to this place when my power was out and I couldn't cook for myself. It's an unassuming hole in the wall at a random strip mall, but I really enjoyed my food. The place was super hot inside and seating is limited, so I recommend getting food to go. It gets made pretty quickly, so no biggie. When you walk in, you are treated to a view of chickens on rotisseries over coals. The coals are littered with herbs. The sight and smell made me start to salivate. I ordered a whole chicken with 2 sides (rice and fried plantains) for 14 dollars. This ended up being a great deal, as the food lasted for 3 meals! And the chicken was great. Great seasoning and very juicy. It comes with 2 sauces. One is basically mayo with a tiny bit of spice. That was mediocre and unnecessary. The other was a spicy green sauce. It was super hot and a little salty. This one was better, but I really didn't use either because the chicken was so good on its own. The fried plantains were good, but not great. Nice and sweet, but a little dry. I know these aren't fried bananas, but I've had better for sure. The rice was pretty simple and boring. The grains of rice were very loose-- I prefer the texture of Asian rice (how it clumps together, etc.). They also have Mexican food. My friend got enchiladas. They weren't covered in sauce the way I like, but he liked them. They also carry some traditionally latin drinks like coconut juice and regional soda, which I did not try. Stop by if you're in the area or search it out if you're in the mood for great chicken at a solid price!

Talk about a lucky break. Having lived with good fried chicken withdrawal since February (Traveler, if ever thou find'st thyself in Cascais, Portugal, Don Manolo's is the place to be) a quick and random perusal of Yelp one night revealed this hidden (and apparently long-standing) gem in the middle of Towson. Pollo Amigo represents the best of the traditional chicken shop. A small place, not much in terms of decor, but excellent food. We tried the half chicken with salad and Yucca/Plantains, and everything was delicious. The chicken was moist, nicely spiced, and generally satisfying. The plantains and yucca were crispy, fried, and delicious, and the salad fresh and nicely sauced (not swimming). Accompany all that with a wide selection of latin beverages, including proper Coca Cola (corn syrup is not a good thing) and owners who appear genuinely happy for your patronage and to care about their business, and you have made me a new return customer. Excellent place, inexpensive, and delicious.

I really wanted to love this place like I love Chicken Rico. The staff is very friendly. The prices are comparable to Chicken Rico. The chicken doesn't have the same flavorful spices that Chicken Rico. The skin wasn't crispy. The yucca was not crispy and the pieces are not fry size like I'm used to. The beans are regular black beans, no choice of red beans. The sauces- the green spicy sauce is the same. However, the creamy sauce is thin and not as flavorful. I'm still sold on Chicken Rico for Peruvian Chicken...

Best Peruvian Chicken in town.. It is really really good. You won't regret. I would do pickup only

Tiny, hole in the wall place. Perfect for picking up on your way home for dinner. I had the 1/2 roast chicken, black beans, yucca, and plantains. Got a beef quesadilla for the wife. Both were really outstanding. The quesadilla was not a meat and cheese only combo, but full of peppers, onions and tomato with sour cream, pico and a huge serving of beans and rice on the side. The chicken had great flavor and was greatly complimented by the white and green sauces served for dipping. Black beans were tender and just-right salty while the Yucca was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The plantains were cooked to that perfect just-caramelized around the edges sweetness. All of the above was about 20 bucks and there was plenty of leftovers. Would have given 5 stars but the chicken was a bit dry, but my guess is because it was a rainy sunday and no one was there. If it had been busy I imagine it would have been better. Everything else was made fresh. They also have enchiladas and mexican food on the menu and will be giving those a try next time.

This place is unreal. Amazing food and service at a low price. There's no frills and no a/c, but you can eat-in (if there's room) or take-out, and honestly, I thought the atmosphere was warm (not just literally) and welcoming. I got the 1/4 chicken with plantains and rice & beans. I've tried the fried yucca on another occasion. The plantains were perfectly caramelized, the rice and beans were delicious, and the chicken was quite literally the best chicken I have ever. had. ever. EVER. The fried yucca is very good dipped in the green and white sauces they give to you. I also got a pineapple Jarritos soda-- they have a few different kinds there, the Coke made with sugar (no corn syrup), and some other things like coconut juice. I am so glad I found this restaurant, and I will come back often. You can tell the owner really takes pride in this place. Come here! And get excited!

Bottom line : the chicken at Chicken Rico - the place near Patterson Park - is better. This has a nice char-broiled taste, but it's not magical and juicy. Rice is well prepared but ultimately uninteresting. Fresh pupusas were a treat and the folks are super nice. No a/c.

Great rotisserie chicken. Fresh, moist and a fantastic spicy green sauce. Skip KFC, popeyes and get some authentic food here. The positive Yelp reviews are spot on.

I've ordered take-out from here twice now (it doesn't have a great eat-in atmosphere) and the count won't stop there. I confess to ordering the same things both times: The whole Peruvian chicken (split), black beans, plantains and french fries. The fries were an impulse item because I was pretty hungry the first time there and wasn't sure I had ordered enough food. But I found that the fries are great when dipped in the black beans broth. The chicken has a great flavor. The black beans were better the first visit but not bad the second. I'm not a huge plantains fan but like the way theirs are cooked. Takeout service is not super fast. 15 minutes, I estimate. But the proprietor is very friendly and, on one occasion offered me a cup of very flavorful chicken soup gratis while I was waiting. It contained a unique mix of ingredients and is not even on their menu - I suspect it is something they prepare for themselves. There's a Latino grocery store two doors down in the same strip shopping plaza so that's pretty convenient if I'm trying to sate a strong craving for south-of-the-US foods.

I would have to agree with Joseph Nam D.'s review on Pollo Amigo: "I was turned off because there were absolutely no customers inside and it looked ghetto. You know the rule- try it once then never come back. Unreal!". I seriously don't have enough adjectives in my vocabulary to describe how amazing this place is. While their Mexican food is good their Peruvian chicken is not to be missed. Two people can get a whole chicken and 3 sides for $20. Don't forget to ask for the green chile sauce for the chicken because it is not the same without it.

  • Mark A.

FYI: this place is now called Pollo Amigo, no Los Amigos Dos. I had the 1/2 chicken and it was "out of the park" good. It comes with a choice of sides (I picked salad and fries), some additional salad dressing and some fresh, bitey salsa Verde. While neither of the sides were earth-shattering (they were merely darn good), the star of the show is definitely the chicken. You can taste the spices and charcoal without overwhelming the chicken meat itself. All pieces, including the breast, were succulent and finger-licking good. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

    (5)
  • Kara W.

Really, really good chicken. I got the 1/4 chicken, white meat with french fries and yucca. The chicken was amazingly moist and flavorful. I liked both the sauces that came with it (I could only use the green sauce in small doses - spicy!). The yucca was super good - especially when dipped in the sauces. The french fries were pretty terrible, but that might have been because I took the food to go? Next time I'll get the plantains. Four stars because of the gross fries and the fact that it is really only good for carry out.

I had the Peruvian chicken, beans and rice and the green sauce. I am so glad that this place is so close to where I live. I will definitely go back to this restaurant.

Seriously, this place rocks. Great value, great chicken. I had the 1/2 chicken, rice and beans. For us suburbanites that love and respect Chicken Rico down in Highlandtown, but don't want to make the haul to downtime, Pollo Amigo is more than adequate substitute. Just for the record, a slight nod to Rico in a chicken cookoff though.

Got the chimichanga and my wife got the chicken with plantains. All is can say wow! My chimichanga was packed with flavor and real plantains are hard to find but heavenly when you do. My wife's chicken was moist and fantastic. It's not a super comfortable place to sit long term, but that is an aside.

Great chicken, tons of flavor. Generous portions on the sides. Did take out, and they were quick and friendly.

  • Joe Nam D.

I was turned off because there were absolutely no customers inside and it looked ghetto. You know the rule- try it once then never come back. Unreal! The chicken that they pulled out of the back in the kitchen somewhere was amazing. I never had Peruvian chicken where the seasoning penetrated all the way into the meat like that. A little bit on the salty side but that's how I like it anyway. Salad, yuca, green sauce and mayonnaise were also fresh and superb. Still doesn't make sense given the lack of business but oh well! Will be back to try other menu items.

What a restaurant! I went here this Monday to get some food for the Ravens game having been here once before (I got tacos). I had never tried the chicken so I had to get some this time. I ordered a 1/2 chicken with black beans and plantains and it took about ten minutes, considering that they made it all to-order. One cool thin I noticed was that they even made the plantains to order; I saw the chef with a big banana in the back when we ordered our food. While waiting, my mom and I went to the hispanic market next door and got some other food for the week, which was convenient. Once we got our food to the house and ate, I was pleasantly surprised at the meal. The chicken was filling, juicy, and had a great spicy flavor. The skin was charred well and the meat had a great charcoal taste to it. The black beans were also great; they had a nice fresh taste and were really warm. Another plus of the meal was the hot sauce they threw in our bag, which was a green salsa that probably had some jalapenos in it; it was great. Lastly, the plantains were out of this world. They were crispy on the outside and sweet and mushy on the inside. They gave you a lot of plantains, too. All in all, the meal was only $8.50, which, in my eyes, is a steal considering you got a half of a chicken, a cup of black beans, and probably a whole banana worth of plantains. This is what I would call the classic Mexican dive restaurant that serves up incredible, authentic, Peruvian food. I'll be back soon.

Just left this place, great customer service, Green chicken soup was beyond awesome, plantains and yuca are good not a big fan of the beans but being that I'm Puerto Rican I'm use to Spanish style beans, but I would definitely be coming back.

Excellent chicken. Excellent chick skin. Excellent special spicy dipping green sauce for chicken. Excellent plantains. Good white rice. Owner is very attentive and generous. Real Spanish soda (all sugar and no corn syrup). Nice to support small business.

I don't get up to Pollo Amigo for lunch very often, but I am so happy when I do. It's a little hole-in-the-wall in a teeny shopping center off York Road. There's usually plenty of parking. The shop doesn't look like much, but the food more than makes up for it. I usually get a quarter chicken with yucca and plantains on the side. They come with two little dipping/drizzling sauces, one white and one green. The chicken is just absurdly delicious. Juicy, tons of flavor on the skin and down through to the meat. The plantains are sweet and soft, as you would expect. And the yucca fries. OH MAN. I can't even find the words. Also, Pollo Amigo sells Inca Kola! It's a Peruvian soda, golden, fruity and sweet - a very unique, refreshing flavor that goes well with the meal. Be sure to grab plenty of napkins; you'll get juice and grease on your hands and face no matter how politely you try to eat. It seems they prepare each order special (i.e., they don't have a big batch of chicken ready to send out the door), which is great because everything comes to you piping hot and fresh, but be prepared to wait a bit for your order. If you're in a rush, look someplace else. Pollo Amigo is definitely not a spot for a nice date, but it's some of the best chicken I've ever eaten.

I'm sure the chicken is as great as everyone says, but I got rice, beans, shrimp, and sautéed vegetables and it was AMAZING. The owner (?) is incredibly nice and didn't mind at all helping me pick out what to get. Super cute place, I'll be back!

I lived in CA for two years and wanted to find a local place with same excellent food. Pollo Amigo is that place! Bare bones on decor and space but the quality of the food made up for it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You must go!

Appearance here is something you need to overlook. Its on a busy road close to the Towson mall, but its a place you must stop into and check out. They do use the lime juice a lot but I guess thats a Peruvian thing... I like lemon and limes so I'm ok with all that. I had the porkchops which were really good, and had there rice and beans combo, I also ordered the platines as well. I did not dine in only because its really tiny but the take out was great!

My kind of spot. Small, divey, unpretentious but kicks out GREAT DARN food! When I grow tired of fried chicken (very rare) I usually go to a spot like this. I don't live in the area anymore but when I do visit this is on my list of places to visit. The food is fresh and they try hard to be prompt considering that it is fresh.

Under new management for a couple of years, this great little hole-in-the-wall is now called "Pollo Amigo." While the menu has been expanded slightly, the main attraction remains the chicken - Peruvian charcoal broiled chicken. I salivate as I write this! When one eats chicken like this, one wonders why chicken would be consumed any other way. The flavors and texture are amazing and moist, and if you are one of those healthy types who doesn't eat chicken skin, don't be an idiot and please make an exception. The chicken skin is AMAZING! Other offerings and sides are all very good. I love the friend yuca, and the tacos and burritos are almost as good as the chicken. There are tables and seats, but most of their business seems to be take-out.

Great Mexican Food. As others have said the decor is quite plain, but the food is great. Chimichangas are great and come with Slices of fresh avocado and salsa fresca type thing, as well as beans and rice. Chicken is amazing. The Lomo Saltado is also great, not greasy at all. If it's hot out I would not eat there as it can get pretty warm inside. Don't be turned away by the apperance, the food is good quality (at least from my taste buds and I'm pretty discerning) and not expensive. Plus you can get different drinks from Latin America such as jarritos, inca kola, and horchata de morro.

Found this place based off reviews on yelp. We are in Towson regularly since my son's school is there so always looking for new places. As other reviews said it is small and not fancy but the service was good, the food was good and plentiful. My husband got the chicken with rice and beans. I had a chicken quesadilla with rice and beans. We decided to split an order of plantains. No complaints about anything.

Authentic Peruvian and Mexican food could never taste so good. They offer a selection of Peruvian rotisserie style chicken as well as specialty items each day. I went with my girlfriend before holiday shopping and we both ordered 5 dollar burritoes that were amazing. I got the Jason and she got the chicken. I highly recommend this place.

Excellent food! I'm not sure I'd call this a hole in the wall. It has character, and very clean. There is limited seating, but dont let that stop you from coming in. The waitstaff is very friendly, and the chicken is to die for. Highly recommend!

For what it is, this is as good as it gets, I'm convinced. It's unabashedly a whole in the wall. But it's a friendly, delicious, affordable, worthwhile, hole-in-the-wall. I can get more than enough chicken and yucca to stuff myself on for hours, for less than 10 bucks. I'm a huge fan. It's affordable and so so so worth it. Call in advance, give them about ten-fifteen minutes, grab your food, and make sure you found a parking spot with a view, because you are not going to be able to drive home before you scarf your food in the car. Not kidding. The white sauce = awesome creamy dijon mustard-y flavored deliciousness. Good on chicken or yucca. The green sauce = slightly spicy; fresh hot pepper sauce, tastes of peppers and not much else. Oh, and, I normally don't eat chicken skin... but you have to here. It's phenomenal...

(02/21/2011) Great Peruvian rotisserie chicken in a hole in the wall strip mall on York Road, near the Merchant's Tire. We went to try it out for lunch; when we walked in at 12:00 there was not a speck of food to be seenin the chafing dishes, grill top, or in the oven. Weird. Ordered a quarter chicken, all dark meat (leg and a thigh), comes with 2 sides for $5.95 -- I got yucca and plantains. 10 minutes later, the lady behind the counter magically brought out our plates of food: chicken was well seasoned (salt, adobo with cumin maybe), meltingly tender, the skin was dark with roasting and sasoning and looked like it was crisp at some point, and still was a little; yucca were fluffy, starchy, and crispy on the outside; plantains were ripe and sweet, but could've used another fry, they were a little limp. The chicken also came with this little cup of addictive condiment, the lady called it "green sauce"; it was like chimichurri -- garlicky, dense with pureed cilantro, some cumin, and maybe some vinegar. The best condiment to chicken E-V-E-R. The drink case held a bunch of things I haven't seen since a trip to Peru, like Inca Kola and Chicha morada made with blue corn. While we were there, 2 huge transport trucks pulled into the tiny parking lot, neither for deliveries; the guys came in and wanted chicken, a guy up the street came in and shouted "pollo" when he entered, and a young lady got 4 orders of chicken to go before she headed back to work (all Spanish speakers--they are in the know). A couple doors down was a Latino Mercado (like a 7-11 jam-packed) with Mexican and South American baked goods, spices, canned goods, and cases full of different fresh sausages and cheeses. Great stop if you're up that way.

I was there once. The woman serving the food went to the restroom which had no paper towels. She came back quite fast and I definitely had the impression that she did not wash her hands.

I thoroughly enjoyed my times here. It's kind of a hole in the wall but if you're looking for good peruvian style chicken and you're in the Towson area, stop by. The prices are fair and the food quality is excellent. Be advised its not a place for a party more than 4 as it is a small place but it is worth it for lunch or even a casual date.

  • Chris B.

This place is an oasis in the "blah" that is the Towson/York Road corridor. There is hardly anything in this area that deviates from chain-store hell or pizza/sub places. I love a greasy cheesesteak as much as the next guy, but I love variety, particularly foods with some zip to them. There's almost no ethnic food around here, but this place rocks. Juicy, well seasoned charcoal chicken, fried yucca, plantains, you name it, and you'll get a HUGE plate of it for about 6 bucks. What's not to like? Sure the inside is small and kinda dingy, but you won't care when you dig into your food, or if it really bothers you take it to go.

The Lomo Saltado is great! Just like what I got in Lima Peru. This really is a takeout place.

The food is good for the price, but it's a bit of a hole in the wall. The last time I went there were ants all over the floor. Go carry out and enjoy the food elsewhere.

After a seemingly endless day of shopping with the wife, five words were muttered that left me in awe: "let's get some mexican food." As many men out there know, these types of phrases are extremely rare, and when presented with such an opportunity, you must ensure that you take advantage. My strategy was two fold: First, I wanted to find authentic food for myself, and second, I wanted to make sure that the place we ultimately went to may allow for repeat occurrences. Pollo Amigo did not disappoint! The food was Fresh and authentic. Besides the food, the gentleman at the counter was helpful and friendly and throughout the duration of our meal, he routinely referred to us as "amigos." We left full and satisfied and my wife even mentioned that this is a Mexican place we could go back to!

What a treat to pop over and get a wonderful meal of whole Peruvian Charcoal Chicken, black beans, rice, and plantains for three to carry out for $19. They were very friendly and said it would be ready in ten minutes - which it was. It tasted great and all of us thought what a nice place to have around the corner.

Wow! Looks are deceiving. Looks like a takeout place but the food was fantastic! Steak in the Jakes Burrito was cooked to perfection and the guacamole was creamy and tangy all at once.

With some time to kill in Towson, I decided to try this restaurant. The staff was friendly, the wait time was practically none, the atmosphere was sparse but inviting. The food? I had the tacos de carnita. Three wonderful circular exteavaganzas topped with pork flavored and cooked like a well-tuned string quartet, with lime, pico de gallo, rice and beans accentuating with tone and pitch. You may attend many a concert in your lifetime, but there's nothing like hearing a masterpiece played by the composer. Uhh... The food was terrific, and I will gladly return to Pollo Amigo the next time life brings me to Towson.

There are certain things you remember in life....and the best thing I ever ate is one of them......that is, when it comes to Peruvian chicken. Run, don't walk for some of the best chicken and green sauce in the B'more area.

Pollo Amigo is a solid choice for the area. The chicken is juicy and the pricepoint is right. It's a nice option if you are in the area and want to pick up a quick lunch. The fries are the standard, fresh out of the bag type. The yucca is pretty tasty. I'd suggest it for a side. If you are in the area and you aren't looking for a chain, Pollo Amigo is pretty decent. The people that worked there are very friendly.

All I can say is WOW this place is amazing. If you're looking for an affordable off the wall South American experience, then look no further. Their spicy "green " sauce is the best I have ever had, and the sides are pretty good too. The owner and staff are friendly and made our food promptly.

So glad we finally gave Pollo Amigo a try!! We'd walked by & smelled the amazing aromas of them grilling chicken and meat outside in the parking lot, but it's not the most refined looking place so we were always a little hesitant. After seeing all the great reviews on here decided to give it a shot - such a good decision!! I got a half chicken with rice & beans and added a side of plantains. The chicken was seasoned perfectly & the meat was cooked just right - very moist and flavorful. The rice and beans just by themselves were delicious - even my 3 yr old ate a big portion! The side of plantains was a HUGE portion, which was great bc they were awesome! Piping hot, cooked perfectly (not mushy at all) & they had just the right amount of sweetness. The green sauce that it comes with is super spicy, but a great addition (in moderation) to the spices of the chicken. My husband chose the steak quesadilla, which was also really good! The steak was really good quality, it was very cheesy & a nice sized portion with a big side of the yummy rice and beans. The ONLY negative was the guacamole - it was incredibly salty. After paying almost $4 for a (small) side I was definitely disappointed. I'm planning on trying something else on the Mexican side of their menu next - they also have burritos, chimichangas & enchiladas - so I hope that it was just a case of someone accidentally being heavy handed with the salt when making that batch. I'll definitely give it another try. The service was just as good as the food. Everyone was extremely friendly and our order was prepared very fast. I regret taking so long to try Pollo Amigo, but we plan to make up for that with many return visits in the near future!!

Awesome place, hands down. I've been here twice (January and November 2014) and ordered the same this both times. This place has some legit chicken for a very reasonable price. I got some yucca and plantains for sides and they were fried to perfection. The green sauce they give you has a nice kick of spiciness. Very limited indoor seating, maybe seats for about a dozen or so people.

One of my favorite places to go for food! I highly recommend this place. I've had the peruvian chicken here as well as the carnitas tacos. The peruvian chicken is very nicely seasoned and cooked. It comes with two different sides. I usually get the rice which is surprisingly very good as well and the yucca. I love their yellow sauce (not completely sure what kind of sauce it is). The carnitas tacos is also very good as well. It is different from the carnitas tacos I get from taquerias but it is still good. The people there are very friendly as well. My friends I went for dinner once and the owner came and let us try some soup with our meal [which was delicious]. I highly recommend people to go here if you are looking for a cheap but filling meal!

Small niche place in a strip store location. Parking can be tough. Its appears a family run store. I ordered the 1/4 chicken with fries n a soda. Came up to $9. The side sauce was really flavorful. Some parts of my chicken were dry to a point it felt it sat in the warmer too long but still flavorful. Only bad thing if you eat there, your clothes smell like greasy fried food. So best to get carryout.

We were sitting in stand still traffic on 695 and got very hungry so we yelped and found this little gem. We had the Lomo saltado made with delicious flank steak and also one with chicken. OH MY. Very very very tasty. I can't wait to visit daughter I Maryland again so we we can eat there. Want to try the other food on menu. BTW the owner is Peruvian and I love me some Peruvian food.

Fantastic food at great prices. It's not a chain or a fast food joint. I have been in Towson forever and never knew this gem was right here. These are kind hard working people that take great joy in pleasing the customer. So on the business end, they are first class in a little strip shopping center that I always drove past on busy York Road. Add good food prepared by a great chef and a star is born.

My friends and I were in Towson last weekend for an event when I had a craving for Peruvian chicken. I chose this place because of the good yelp reviews and it was delicious! We ordered the whole chicken with plantains and yucca sides and two of my friends ordered the tacos which were equally amazing. The food was great and the owner let us in after they closed to serve us dinner on a Saturday night. Great food and great service. We left very happy and full.

Never thought you'd sit down and eat half a chicken and then undergo vicious internal debate over ordering another half? Eat here and believe. The chicken is so perfectly spiced, tender and juicy. It leaves you happily begrimed to the wrists and cursing your satiety trigger. The fried plantain is equally hard to stop eating. The black beans are too good not be heavily lard influenced. I approve. I very much approve.

It really doesn't get any better than this, at least in America. Since I grew up right outside of DC I'm so used to having any kind of food I want in walking distance. When I moved to Baltimore... well thats when you had to do research on Yelp. And I'm SO glad I found this place. Any kind of Spanish/Mexican/Peruvian food is my favorite, I mean FAVORITE! I had yet to find a good place in Baltimore. Came in for lunch and it was packed! I wasn't even mad, I was actually really happy because 1. thats how I knew it was good food and 2. I love to see small businesses succeed. It is very small and there are a few tables to sit down and eat but they're all taken at lunch. I believe its a family own restaurant and the people working there are extremely nice. It just made me so happy. So anywayssss! The food. Was super hungry one day and decided to get steak! I knew it wouldn't disappoint. Ordered the lomo saltado which was steak, onions and french fries all cooked together with a side of rice. You can get beans on top of your rice, I opted out this time. I also thought I'd be healthy and get a side salad, luckily I love ranch dressing because it comes on it so be prepared. Heaven. The steak was cooked perfect and cut into perfect bite sized pieces. It was so flavorful I couldn't believe it. Even the salad was good! Fresh tomatoes, onions, lettuce, I love a good salad! I'm so mad at myself for always driving by here and never noticing. My taste buds want to thank Yelp for finding this amazing place.

Had the 1/2 chicken with rice and beans. Have to say that its one of the most delicious and tender chicken I have ever had. It is very soft and easy to chew. The rice and beans is a good combination with the chicken. And their green sause is really nice, very spicy though. It tasted good with the chicken, the rice and beans, and with rice alone. All this - A completely filling meal for $9. :-)

Somewhere, amidst all the hustle and bustle in the area near Towson mall, is a small, plain strip mall. It's the kind of building you can drive by millions of times and not think much of. It's the home of Pollo Amigo, a Peruvian chicken place that, like the strip mall it resides in, is fairly nondescript. And yet... you will find wonderfully made food here. The store itself is tiny. You walk in through the door and are immediately greeted by the scents of cooking chicken and the noises of a soccer game coming from a small TV near the entrance you came in from. It may not look like much, but it definitely is feels legit. And then the food... You'll get wonderfully made chicken. The kind that is moist, flavorful, and tender. Definitely no complaints with the chicken. We also got a salad and rice and beans as sides. The salad was great. Everything on it was very fresh. The lettuce had a nice, satisfying crunch to it and the tomatoes were juicy and sweet. Awesome. The rice and beans were among the best I've ever had. It was incredibly savory and flavorful. I was a big fan. If you're looking for a good, cheap meal in the Towson area, definitely check out Pollo Amigo. You'll definitely be happy you tried it.

Visited Pollo Amigo, since I was staying in a hotel around the area and this restaurant had the highest ratings. Food (8.5/10) = So how amigo was the pollo? (that probably doesn't make any grammatical sense). As one would expect from properly prepared Peruvian chicken. Very moist. Strong flavor. All business. I liked the aroma from the cumin rubbed on the chicken. So good, I couldn't control myself and ate more than half a chicken. Although not necessary since the chicken itself carries lots of flavor, Pollo Amigo has two sauces - a white mayo based sauce, and a spicy green sauce. I also tried the yucca and fried plantains as well. Like the chicken, both of these side items boast great flavor. Paired all this food with a can of horchata. I love horchata. Yea, horchata. Ambiance (7.5/10) = a small shop with maybe 4 tables at most. Not much glamour here. When you come here, it's all about the food. Service (8.0/10) = really liked the guy that took our order. Very friendly. Overall opinion = A great find during a recent trip to the Baltimore area, thanks to Yelp. Best thing about Pollo Amigo, other than the awesome food, are the cheap prices! $14 for a whole chicken + plantains + yucca.

My boyfriend found this place and suggested that we try it since we were in the neighborhood. I've never had Peruvian chicken before, but I can honestly say it was incredibly delicious! -Atmosphere: It is a very small casual restaurant with about 4 tables. I guess one could call it a hole in the wall, but it is very cute and cozy. With that said, it is very casual for dining in and they even offer carry out. -Service: Upon walking in the owner greeted us and was just so incredibly welcoming! I guess he knew it was our first time and immediately handed us a menu and told us to have a seat. He really made our dining experience wonderful since he was so friendly :] -Food: I ordered 1/4 Peruvian chicken and chose plantains and rice and beans as my sides. My boyfriend ordered the 3 Tacos des carnitas which came with rice and beans. Everything was really good! The chicken was very juicy and was coming off of the bone. I never order rice and beans but I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised. The plantains were so delicious and really brought the whole plate together as something to sweeten my palate. The tacos were really good and had so much flavor. I would probably say that the chicken proved to be a 'man-sized' meal and the tacos were an average amount of food. ------------------------------------------------ Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant since the service is wonderful and the value of the food is well worth it! The size of the restaurant would not be able to accommodate a larger group of people, but it is perfect for a casual meal for a few people. Will definitely be coming back!

I tried them for the first time last night. I got the Jason Burrito with a side order of black beans & rice. My meal was pretty delicious.. The burrito had freshly made chopped grilled steak, although there were more beans & rice, and it was topped with cheese. The guacamole was great to eat along with the burrito. Black beans & rice were good, too. The portions were pretty massive, so you could definitely share or save it for later. The price was extremely inexpensive. My meal was about $9. Next time I go, I will definitely try the chicken everyone is raving about. Overall, I recommend eating here.

  • Terry B.

Excellent chicken. Not overly seasoned. I don't like the sauces or sides here as much as El Gran Pollo. In particular, the plantains were somewhat dry and rubbery, lacking the sweetness of the caramelized variety. The chicken, however, is outstanding.

For months my boyfriend begged me to go with him to Pollo Amigo and I refused. I like chicken, but most of the time I don't have a taste for it; I'd rather have a burger. Also, in my defense, he didn't make it sound too appealing (it's small, it's in a strip mall, there's not many places to sit, blah blah blah). Well, one sunny spring day I caved and we finally went to Pollo Amigo together. My initial hesitancy didn't disappear when I walked through the door. The decor is definitely nothing to write home about. In fact it's kind of depressing. However, what Pollo Amigo lacks in ambiance is definitely made up by the delicious and CHEAP food! I got the 1/4 dark meat with plantains and salad as my sides and I cleaned my plate. The chicken was sooooo good. The skin and meat were so flavorful, and I had to try not to lick my fingers...too much.... They give you little dipping sauces for the chicken, but I didn't use those because the chicken was fine as is. And then there was the salad! I don't even really like salad, but I was trying to be healthy. Oh my god, that salad was so freaking good! I hadn't had a salad that fresh in so long. They put some sort of mayonnaise dressing on it (I think) so just a heads up in case you don't like mayonnaise. The plantains were also really good--they were firm and not all mushy. I was so glad I didn't let the appearance of the restaurant stop me from trying the food. It was definitely worth it. Only $5.95 for a quarter chicken and two sides?! YES!

I'm obsessed. I told my husband i wish we would eat their food every day. We have gotten take out 3-4 times, and usually get either a whole or half chicken with rice, beans and plantains. Then we fight over any leftovers. My husband got the steak burrito and really liked it. I tried the tacos and liked them too. A word of caution- whatever the green sauce is- it is SPICY!!!! But a little bit mixed in with their white sauce is amazing. I hope you try this place and like it as much as we do.

There seems to be a paucity of good ethnic food in the Towson area, and indeed, I was saddened to find out that a Cuban restaurant had closed right after I found it on Yelp (and right afterwards, the same for an African food place somewhere in Baltimore; grr!). Pollo Amigo, however, has restored my faith in this town which will be my new home for the next year. Not only is the chicken good, but hey, if I can find Peruvian food, maybe I can find other stuff besides the watered-down sushi and Chinese take-out that passes for ethnic food around here. Half a chicken was enough for 2 meals. For the first meal, I wrote off the mayo-based white sauce as being too rich; I stuck with the spicy green sauce because the chicken was well-seasoned and didn't really need much else but the heat. I'm glad I kept the white sauce, though, as its richness was good for the leftovers, which consisted mainly of the drier breast meat (plus drying out further in the fridge overnight). The yucca side is crunchy but not excessively greasy like it can sometimes get. The plantains were very good; we got an extra order of it to go, even though we already have plantains at home ripening for frying similarly. The tilapia ceviche isn't bad, but was fishier than I've come to expect of my fish dishes. They should also use some other container for this if it is to-go, as all of the juices spilled out by the time we got home. Unfortunately, their drinks are canned. The horchata does not taste as light, refreshing, or good as fresh. It is also pricy at $2 for a soda can size. I generally love horchata, and I generally dislike soda, but given the choice again, I might just opt for a soda if I ever feel the need to get a drink here again since the horchata was so disappointing. Food prices are okay to pricy, depending on what you get (-1 star). They also charge an extra $2-3 for the half chicken for 2 people or something. I'm not sure why this is necessary, and it bothers me on principle; you're still supplying the same amount of food, regardless.

This place... always comes through with the goods! Fair pricing and great service. Never had any bad food here! Carry out is probably better just as there isn't much space to eat in. Too bad the place isn't open late! I'd stop by all the time after a night at the towson bars!

  • Niran A.

Yelp does it again! I searched "lunch" in Towson, MD and Pollo Amigo came up. After reading some of the reviews I knew this was going to be good. As others have suggested, this is a hole in the wall with a limited menu, but it sure does pack a punch. The restaurant has minimal tables inside so don't be shocked if you are obligated to "carry-out". I opted for the 1/2 chicken ($8), which came with a combination of white and dark meat as well as two sides of your choice. I opted for the classic rice and beans. The spice rubbed rotisserie style chicken was delicious! The chicken had the perfect amount of spice, with crispy skin and juicy flesh. The rice and beans were also very good - a perfect accompaniment to the flavorful chicken. The platter also includes a spicy green sauce and zesty white sauce, both work harmoniously with the chicken, rice and beans. In short, this place is the real deal for chicken. Great lunch spot that is off the beaten path.

The best Peruvian chicken! I frequent this place since I work in Towson. I get the quarter white meat chicken with rice and beans and yucca. Haven't been disappointed any time I have gone. It's a small place with only 4 tables so you may want to do carryout.

    (5)
  • Tiffany T.

Your typical Peruvian chicken. It was still moist, although pre-cooked and chopped up to order. The green sauce is my favorite Rice and beans, plantains, and yucca were cooked as they should be. Reason it's not a 4 star, is because they initially charged me $21.09 when my total was $15.00. Had to go back 2 separate times for them to give me the correct change back. They were friendly about it; but a mistake is a mistake. 3 stars A ok

I went into this place because I was in the area and it had great reviews on yelp and it's very similar to el gran pollo which is closer to my house. For one i was a little annoyed at how long it took them to make my order of 1/2 chicken rice and plaintains when I was the only one in the store (which also bothered me) and everything was right there in front of them. I didn't like that I couldn't see the sides (they were covered up) they had a lot of chicken sitting and the oven was completely off at 5pm (another bad sign). They finally made my plate and I walked out the door got to my car and looked at it, no beans! Had to go back have them put beans on my rice. The food ... Chicken was well seasoned, rice was hard and Under cooked, plaintains were amazing, I wanna say fresh. I would only go back for the plaintains, if you've been to el gran pollo you'll be disappointed.

Not embarrassed to say that I go here WAY more often than I should. The chicken is just unbelievable every time. The staff feel more like a welcoming family than servers. The jason burrito is outstanding, the chimichangas spot on. Its a small place but I'm telling you, best chicken I've ever had. Simple, fresh, charcoal grilled, and perfectly spiced. I like the half dark with rice and beans. Everything here is good. Someday I will call ahead for the ceviche but I just can get enough of the chicken. Probably my favorite restaurant!

I have only tried Pollo Amigo once, but my first experience was a success! Great, authentic food! Small place with only a few tables but they were not busy at 5pm when we visited. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I will go back!

I was using Yelp to find some place good to eat and found this little hole in the wall. Parking is pretty tight, but I did find a space. It's a small carry out, with about 4 tables, enough to seat up to 12 people if you want to eat here. Since it was my first time here, I stuck with the pollo a la brasa. It was very tasty, but just a little over done. You get 2 sides with your order, and it filled the plate. Very filling, very good. Great prices. I would definitely stop by again if I was in the area. 4 stars, only because the chicken was a little over cooked.

I'm here literally once a week and I have made several believers of El Pollo Amigo.... I must admit I don't turn much good down, but I also don't compliment all food, this place is a mom and pop shop and Lorito (sp) is the owner he is amazing....he'll have me speaking spanish fluently before I know it. Back to the food I could literally eat just the beans and rice and be happy but I've had several items on the menu and I've never been disappointed. This place is so worth 5 stars :)

  • Lior A.

I love this place. The food is rustic, tasty, and affordable. The owner and his wife are very friendly and even treat gringos (like myself) like they are part of the family. I usually order the half chicken with rice and beans because this is what they are known for. The chicken has a tasty spice rub on it which allows it get crispy in their oven, yet stay incredibly juicy. The two sauces they give with your food work perfectly. One is a white lime mayo sauce....(I think) and the other is a green type of salsa verde which has the perfect amount of heat. I always ask for extra sauce and the friendly owners always smile at me and oblige. I can't speak for the other menu items but if hispanic people are there to eat hispanic food, you know it must be the real deal!

This place is ok. I may have been there on an off day because my chicken and plantains did not look as good as the pictures some reviewers posted. The plantains need to be cooked a little more and the roasted chicken was very pale compared and did not have a savory flavor like I have had at other Peruvian chicken place.

One of my favorite spots in Towson for quick take-out. Usually, I walk in and walk out with food in less than 10 minutes. Limited menu, but the food is really good. I always order the half chicken with beans & rice, and it comes with two sauces, which are tasty. I've never been disappointed. Great local business, and the owner is usually behind the counter. During the recent cold snap, I stopped in, and while waiting, the owner gave me a small cup of chicken soup, which was a great holdover while I waited. If you are looking for good, inexpensive meals from a local business, go here.

Great hole in the wall for lunch or extremely casual dinner. Call in for carry out or he will have it waiting when you get there. Owner works his tail off and so friendly and nice. Love everything! But it is not air conditioned so can be hot in the summer and limited seating although never had a problem. We got at least once a week for lunch. Enjoy!!

Good stuff. A very small homestyle kind of mexican/peruvian food. Everythings fairly simple but done well. The rotisserie is in the open, you see the love that was put into it ..the herbs on the coals, etc. The chicken was good. Great crispy flavorful skin, good moist meat. (I always understand if sometimes it gets dry ... out of all the chicken you make in a rotisserie, I'm sure at least some proportion of some part of a chicken might be dry. One of my pieces was dry...but I'm ok with that..considering the rest of the chicken that my friend and I had were moist) The sides are good. Nothing crazy. the side sauces ( a white and green) are ok. The white is a very mayo based sauce.. It was very heavy ..and I couldn't handle much of it. The green is purely spicinesss ..Hot stuff..mix it in with rice and it's gooddd The beef enchiladas were simple. No sauce over it. Just cheese and sourcream. But it had a nice mexican flavor to it. All in all, this place has some good food! Nothing ridiculously crazy. But it's fairly cost friendly. Overall a solid 4 in my books for good, filling food at a decent price.

So happy to have found this gem. A small, unassuming space in little noticed strip mall. As others have pointed out, it's a warm and inviting place. The owner (I kick myself for not getting his name) was so friendly, sweet, attentive and funny. Staff was all great. The chicken...Oh My God....the chicken was unbelievable. Smoky taste with mouthwatering seasoning. My husband and I shared a full chicken (1/2 of it came home with us) with some rice and fried yucca. The yucca was some of the best I've ever had...and I've had my share; as was the rice. Fluffy, and flavorful. Awesome meal for two, for under $25.00. Will go back, no doubt. A lot. Yum.

Loved loved loved it. Went here because we were in Towson area for appt. Used yelp to locate somewhere to grab lunch. Absolutely delicious. It was like eating at your friends house. The owner waited on you. The food wasn't made until you ordered it and it wasn't fancy or overthought and it wasn't big box premade frozen either. It was simple, fresh, delicious and laid back. Definitely add this to the list as place to go when in town.

This place is AMAZING!!! I've had their food about a dozen times now and it's always fantastic. The owner is very friendly and will remember your face and name after a few visits. I usually stick to the Pollo Saltado - it's flavorful and light and awesome. Get it! You're welcome. Their Peruvian Charcoal Chicken is out of this world!!! There's also a special soup that's not on the menu but there is a sign for it to the right if the register. It has cilantro and their chicken and other things that must be sent from the gods. DELICIOUS! I first found out about Pollo Amigo on Yelp and am so glad I listened to the great reviews. Just beware, their food is addicting.

Great food! The place is owned by a Peruvian couple and they cook their food authentically. You definitely don't feel like you're in the middle of Towson when you stop in for a meal. The carnitas tacos that I had were awesome -- carnitas were still really tender and the added salsa was nice and spicy. Will definitely be coming back to try out the other food they have. They make their own Peruvian Chicken and it looked really tasty as well

The best chicken tacos I've ever had. They sell Inca Kola. The guy who has made my food the last few times (maybe the owner) was friendly. No frills. Good food. Note: The fries had an odd taste to them -- probably because they were fried in the same grease as some other non-American favorite. Not too big of a deal - didn't expect much from the fries.

We go here almost weekly. We get the Peruvian chicken with yucca and plantains and their awesome green sauce. It varies a little each time (green sauce spiciness, texture of plantains, etc...) but is always satisfying, the portions are generous and the price is pretty good. Have been going there regularly for a few years now. If you're in the mood for tastiness, can't go wrong here!!! Nando's opened up in Towson, but I would skip that and go here to support a local business.

This place is quite unassuming and very easy to miss, but if you happen to stumble upon it you will be amazed! It's a very tiny place with only a couple tables, but the food is incredible. I have never been to Peru, but the food tastes pretty authentic. Chipotle is delicious but Pollo Amigo is on its own level. I ordered the 1/2 chicken that comes with two sides and I opted for the plantains and black beans. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and tender. So TENDER. The plantains were sweet and had just the right texture. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my meal - affordable, delectable, and incredibly filling. What more can you ask for?

  • Christopher C.

I am absolutely livid because the quality of these tacos were not up to my Mexican expectations. The tortilla was flimsy and fell apart just like my hopes and dreams of having a good lunch in nice hot August day. The chicken and pico de gallo on my taco was scarce, so what am I supposed to do with this abundance of rice and beans? The rice and beans were also stale and undercooked.

It was just ok for me. this was my first time trying this restaurant but the reviews seemed really positive so I figured I'd try it. Upon entering around lunch time, it was empty with the exception of the staff. The owners/staff were friendly, no complaints there. I believe the AC was broken since it was extremely hot in there and sweat was pouring off of the man who handed me my order. I ordered the chicken tacos to go. The corn tortilla tasted ok even though it ripped from condensation when I picked it up with my hand. (I tasted it right away before leaving the parking lot) The chicken was a bit too dry for my liking and the flavor of the chicken was blah. The highlight of the meal was the salsa, rice and beans. I was kind of disappointed.

Very happy with this spot. I'm excited to go back again soon. They have a great mix of food, I got the Lomo saltado and it was delicious.

Don't judge a book by its cover. The place doesn't look like much. I was glad I finally checked out Pollo Amigo. It is very casual. Great food, selection, and service. I've done both carry out and eat in. I recommend the half chicken with beans and rice. This is now my go to for authentic mexican food in Towson.

This place is awesome The staff barely speaks English, and the restaurant always has spanish speakers as patrons. I get their half chicken with yucca and fried plantains. The chicken is so flavorful (I don't know how they do that), the dipping sauces are rich and tangy, and the sides are so amazing. Those plantains are addictive, I could eat that all day. I have to confess that I often get takeout, but the smell is so alluring that I rip into the chicken and sides as soon as i get out of the restaurant and into the car. I suspect that one of the employees might have seen me, but it's so delicious that I don't care.

Yelp. I get it! I drive past this place all the time and wonder how in the world this little place has such raving reviews. They've been #1 in Towson on here for a while! For a quick lunch I stopped here to kill time before heading to visit friends. The place is nothing special, and tiny. There are a few tables inside, and one on the sidewalk and a little picnic area to the left of the shopping center. The service is counter, the food comes out fast. The employees are very nice and helpful. They insisted we paid after we ate, which I thought was very generous. I had the quarter chicken, with dark meat. It comes with too sides. I had the salad and the plantains. The plantains were delicious. The chicken was so great, I wish I had ordered a half chicken instead! I love the seasonings on the chicken. They have a few other items on the menu that I wanted to try, they are known for their chicken but they also have some beef dishes. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, or some tasty take out. I'd highly recommend this place!

Great little gem in the heart of town! Not a fancy place so don't expect waiter service, white tablecloth, etc but they do food the right (tasty and they give you enough for the price). I ordered the steak and rice. They give you rice and beans as sides. All in all, a good, tasty, filling meal. One thing I wish they had was some better choices of hot sauce. Also, the place is tiny (maybe 5 tables) so if you get there during the lunch rush you may be waiting to order and eat. Also, I hate that I only get to experience this place once every few months as I am out of state.

All I can say is wow! This place is truly Towson's best kept secret. Located right next to the Towson diner, this place offers the best Peruvian style food I've had in my life. I ordered the chicken quesadillas and It came out looking extremely fresh and well presented. The portion for just $8 is excellent! It came with a side of rice and black beans which was simply delicious. It also came with sour cream and pico de gallo. The meat was seasoned and prepared so well. The service was also top notch. For being basically a hole in the wall kind of joint, this place serves up the best food I've had in Towson in a long time. Don't want to miss this place!

I was tricked by great reviews. Went there with two kids for quick lunch and man was it cold inside. And I guess you can get a better service if you speak Spanish - I don't. I guess that's why when I ordered chicken enchilada and asked if it was spicy they said No, it is not. I told the waitress that I am going to share it with my daughter, and she again said no. Then the small salad on the side burnt my throat, good, at least not my daughter's. I asked the waitress why did she tell me it was not spicy and she goes: the enchilada is not spicy! You didn't ask about the side! Well I had to be more specific I guess :( all in all the food was ok.

Little teeny hole in the wall that delivered great results! My fiancé were starving after a long trip up from DC and being the day after Christmas, most places were closed. These folks were not only super fast, very accommodating and just plain pleasant! I highly recommend the plantains! Didn't want to stop eating them.

I came up to Maryland early because I move into college tomorrow, so me and my parents came here because of the reviews on yelp and it was so worth it. Our waitress was nice and funny and the food was fresh and flavorful. If you know me, you'd know that my favorite thing to eat is Chipotle. And it's weird to compare the two because Pollo Amigo seems more authentic and its not a chain, but I might just pick it over Chipotle, especially since it's closer to my school! It's very casual and charming in its own way and I can't wait for my next return.

You need to stop what you're doing right now and go. Best chicken ever. Enough said.

The best rotisserie chicken you'll ever have. It's been on my regular lunch rotation for years and now I live nearby so I've added it as my first choice for carryout when I don't have time to make dinner. Don't pass up this hidden gem tucked away in a tiny little strip center in the Towson hill.

Pretty good! I got the Jason burrito and there was wayyyy too much rice and beans. Rice and beans filled the burrito and then a whole LARGE size to accompany it. Not enough guac, pico and sour cream for the amount of food. The steak was delicious which is why I'm eager to try the Peruvian chicken. I have high hopes for it next time I go.

Awesome food. It's very small and not really meant for dining in. Staff is very friendly. I recommend the pollo saltado. Delicious. Great place, I'll definitely return.

Woah! You guys, if you're looking for cheap, fast Peruvian food and you're in the neighborhood, check this place out. I usually get the chicken with black beans and rice and plantains. The chicken is succulent and spicy, and the black beans are amazing. My wife gets the lomos saltado, which is beef with fries and stuff on rice. It's flavorful and juicy and carbolicious. Everything we've had here is excellent. 99% of the business is to go; they have two small tables so you might end up eating inna car. It's primitive but fun and tasty. A good cheap evening. Tip: for drinks my wife recommends the Mexican Coke, which is made with sugar.

Tried Pollo Amigo on a whim because yeah that is what i do every now and then when the mood strikes. Towson is close to my house, but i was coming from Rockville so needless to say i was tired. Anyway, enough of my commuting problems, on to the food. The smells that were filling up the room in this small restaurant was just divine, my initial plan was to just get the Peruvian chicken but i added the Lomo Saltado as well. Verdict the lomo Saltado is good, really good, will go out of my way to get that, well not when i am coming from Rockville. The Peruvian chicken was ok, i have had chicken rico multiple times and i think thats better. The Chicken didnt retain the flavor a day after. Its decent chicken, but wont go out my way.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
