Beautiful waterfront property, excellent location, friendly and amicable hosts. Home is very clean and decorated well. Grounds are meticulously maintained. A great place to relax and enjoy a bottle of local wine. (There is an onsite winery and wine tasting.)

We came here for wine tasting and had a wonderful experience. The proprietor is very friendly and knowledgable about wine. He was very nice about letting our group's two toddlers and dog run amuk around the property. Overall, highly recommend.

My wife and I spent four days, three nights in southern Maryland for our anniversary. We looked around at a number of B&B options/Hotels/Cabin Rentals and finally decided on Woodlawn. WHAT A GREAT MOVE ON OUR PART. Normally, we are NOT a fan of B&Bs... as there is often too much "interaction" with other guests, property owners, etc, etc. Not so at Woodlawn. Jim Grube (the owner) is VERY entertaining, but in no way invasive or overly doting on his guests. Not to mention he is super nice, full of great ideas about the area and a GREAT breakfast cook (each morning you get a great big breakfast in the main house with views looking over Calvert Creek/Potomac River). The grounds and property are FANTASTIC without being gaudy (which we liked). Everything felt clean and cozy. Our favorite part (other than walking the grounds, having a pleasant breakfast, side trips in the area) was taking Jim's kayaks out in the Creek and realizing that if you head out towards the Potomac when the tide is out ... there is a relatively secluded stretch of white sand beach .. only accessible by the kayaks! That was a real treat. In other words, our trip was a B&B/hiking/kayaking/wine tour/restaurant tasting/beach trip. Yea, the area is great! We'll be back Jim! There's not much on Yelp or Tripadvisor written on this area (most of it is about eastern shore, etc)... if anyone wants tips or advice feel free to message me.

OK. The place is OK. We stayed in the Magnolia cottage. "Magnolia is our romantic get away cottage. Set off by itself" = false. Magnolia is a toolshed on the central patio. The door to the building doesn't lock or close very well. Don't expect any privacy. When the wind blows the door open, the wine drinkers at the little tables all look right in the door at the side of the bed. The building has no furniture, except a bed and a lecture stand with a slanted top. No night tables or a TV or a mini-fridge. Probably got stolen when the door quit closing all the way. Breakfast has changed from some of the reviews posted here. We were offered a couple of danishes and pastries, cut in half and some fruit and store-bought granola. Jim announced that the coffee was gone at 9:30 and he had no plans for making any more. "Whoever needs it the most can have the last little drop!" I don't know if they lost their food service license or just quit bothering to live up to the "Breakfast" part of their name. The rocking chairs on the lawn ARE lovely and have a peaceful view of the river. Until about 2:30 when the tourists show up with their fast food and spend the day drinking wine. So we went into Leonardtown which is about 45 minutes away and looks like it was deserted when PAX River AFB downsized. Don't bother with the Point Lookout lighthouse either - there's a big chain link fence around it. If you are looking for someplace to eat your roadside lunch while enjoying a free wine tasting, Woodlawn has it all. If you're looking for a romantic weekend for two - stay home.

After two days of driving around disappointment after disappointment with the accommodations of Southern Maryland, we finally found this jewel B&B tucked into a corner of Calvert Bay. The inviting long beige pebble driveway felt like a breath of fresh air cleansing all frustrations from the the previous two days away. The plantation has been renovated into a main guesthouse with mutilple cottages. Thomas Cox tastefully preserved the house and one can see the history within the walls. The rooms are immaculate and clean. There are tons of wildlife around the home, the sun sets just over the bay, and there are schools of fish swirling the waters. If you want relaxation, good kayaking, and plenty of good wine, this is the place to be... Just like the label on their wines, if you need to get away and "slack" off, Woodlawn is the place to leave it all behind.

We were recently married and had to postpone our honeymoon due to a busy work schedule, so we decided to take a few weekend trips. We journeyed down to Southern MD to this historical and elegant bed and breakfast near Point Lookout State Park. The service was incredibly hospitable, between a young gentleman named Jean and the inn-owner Jim Grube. They even had their own wine on this farm/bed and breakfast, and Jean ran the daily wine tastings (including wine and cheese pairings). We had a very romantic cottage overlooking Calvert Creek, which was just off of the Potomac River near where the Chesapeake Bay converges. We went out in their canoe and kayaks, which was quite relaxing! This is just down the road from the Point Lookout Park, which has beaches, fishing areas and a historic prison which once held over 52,000 confederate soldiers (and some say it's a very haunted area). This is also just a short drive to Solomon's Island, and the seafood around there is awesome! We plan on going back, and definitely letting our family and friends know about this place.

Outstanding bed and breakfast. Our cottage was not available at check-in so we got upgraded to the Palacial Suite, which included a jacuzzi. We were offered a choice between the suite and a cottage. We took the room in the main house because it was huge. The waterfront view of Calvert Bay was stunning as the sun set. The main house had no guests the night we stayed so we got the whole house to ourselves! The service was excellent. We were served breakfast at the time we wanted it and it consisted of scrambled eggs, ham, fresh pineapple with strawberries, and orange juice. The B&B was on some 140 acres of land and was a historic building from the 1800s. It was such a great value and far exceeded any expectations I had of B&B's in Southern Maryland. I would stay here again without hesitation.
