I was psyched for great Chinese food when we came here and boy was I disappointed. At first I thought I had gone to a different Hunan L'Rose, since the food was so bad. No flavor, very poor quality meat, and so greasy. We ordered egg rolls, steamed dumplings, and kung pao chicken--none of it was edible. I much prefer Hunan Express (never eaten there but they deliver).

I'd heard 'people had heard good things' about this restaurant and decided to give it a try for carry-out. First off, the food smelled so greasy I had to roll the windows down on the way home. Our food was, to put it nicely, inedible. My husband is not a picky eater, and for $40 for five items, you'd expect to get something at least half decent. Within a few bites, we opted to throw it out and eat frozen waffles, it's that bad. Worst Chinese dining experience I've had.

Popular local restaurant that doesn't live up to the hype. Large menu and decent prices don't compensate for bland taste and questionable quality. Unfortunately it may still be the best option for Chinese food in the Odenton/Gambrills area.

Hunan L'Rose is pretty legit in terms of taste. I like the taste of their tofu options but I think it's unnecessarily expensive and they don't even deliver. I'd rather drive to Crofton for Hunan Express, which has better quality food for a cheaper price.

Hunan L'rose deserves 3 stars at most. While my mom raves about the food, I find some of the usual dishes kinda bland. I also did not enjoy my spring rolls, its hard to find good spring rolls anymore.

By far this is my favorite chinese food!! The veggie egg rolls are DELICIOUS. And the staff is always friendly. Dont be fooled by the fact it's in a strip mall next to a fashion bug... the food is great and well worth driving for.

Although a bit pricier than I'm used to for Chinese food in a strip mall, it has got excellent food and quick service. There's one guy whose sole job it is to refill your water. My favorite dishes here are the orange beef and the beef chow fun noodles. However, last time we got the Happy Family, which is a Chef's Special consisting of beef, chicken, salmon, shrimp and scallops. It sounds good on paper but it lacks much of each kind of meat and has too many veggies. Also, avoid the chicken in garlic sauce. Their duck here is prepared very well.

We live in the area and decided to give it a try. We were looking for a Chinese place that offers soup, an entree, and possibly an egg roll at a reasonable price. Hunan L'Rose was not the place. Don't get me wrong, the food was good. Better quality than most "Chinese" places. Thing is, you definitely pay for it here. A little bit too much, in my opinion. We walked out having paid roughly 35 to 40 for carry out, which is at least $10 more than our usual price. And with less food to boot. We were both still hungry after eating our meals! I'm usually not opposed to paying more for better quality food, but when I'm still hungry at the end of the meal on top of paying more, something is seriously wrong. We've been back another time and experienced the same thing. We'll have to continue our search for a good Chinese place with an adequate amount of food for a decent price.

The food and service were both awesome. You know sometimes the different dishes all task the same. We had three different dishes and all three of us shared. The flavors were different for each. My kind of Chinese food.

After reading several very positive reviews I decided to try this restaurant out for myself. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and Crab Rangoon. I must say, the Crab Rangoon was top notch, it was perfect. Lots of filling and it was fried just right. On the other hand, my General Tso's dinner was terrible. The texture of the chicken made it seem as though it was not fried/cooked properly. Also, the actual chicken meat itself had a very oily texture. I had to throw half my dinner out because I just could not stomach eating it anymore. If it weren't for the Crab Rangoon I would have rated my meal 1 star. Throw in the semi-ridiculous price of the dinner ($14.95 for an order of General Tso's alone) and this is a place I would not recommend.

I was in the mood for egg drop soup and by recommendation by my boyfriend, I decided to try Hunan L'Rose. Egg drop soup is a hard soup to mess up so I found this one to be my liking. I did feel I needed to add some salt for a little extra flavor but then it was enjoyable for me. I look forward to trying out other things on their menu in the future. Update: So after frustrating my boyfriend for ten minutes with my indecisive appetite, we decided to go to Hunan L'Rose for in between lunch and dinner meal. I decided to be brave and despite how picky I can be about how chicken and broccoli can end up tasting, I went ahead and ordered it. It ended up being a great choice because it was just how I like it. After the meal, they offered hot wash cloths to wash our hands and faces with, orange & vanilla swirl sherbert, and a fortune cookie--the wash cloth & sherbert being something I had never experienced at a chinese restaurant. That with the fine dining atmosphere made it seem really classy, but at the same time it also has the atmosphere of a place where you can dress casually.

Stopped by Hunan during Snowmaggedon 2010. Located in a strip mall in which Super Fresh is the flagship, I was pleasantly impressed with the quality of food and service. The menu is easy to navigate and the service was impeccable. The servers on staff never let my beverage get below half full and the food I ordered (sweet & sour chicken/steamed rice) was prepared quite quickly. Probably the best Chinese food in Odenton/Ft Meade area. Highly recommended.

So was looking forward to a nice casual dinner date with my partner . We went to Hunan L rose a few weeks bck for lunch and was pretty good. Except the service wasnt that great but being not many chinese restaurants arnd we stuck it out. So we went tonight arnd 7 pm for dinner and it was packed . The owner was waiting tables. No biggie at first then saw other people getting waited on aftr we sat and then she finaly took our order. I ask politely for some fried noodles and duck sauce and she said ok ok ok. Then we needed a refill on water and asked a female server and she said talk to your server. At that point was upset . Then the waton soup came out cold, had to literally get up and find a server by the kitchen. Then my partner asked for our appetizer and the owner said ok ok ok.. so by then we decided to just to leave. I dont recomend this restaurant..ok ok ok..lol but we didnt let it ruin our night we found an awesome thai and sushi restaurant by Anne Arundel mills mall. Called the Red Parrott . Awesome food and great service and happy to serve us.

A bit pricey. I had General Tao's Chicken - sauce was good, no usual broccoli or veges came in it, and the chicken meat was all dark meat with pretty thick breading. Friend enjoyed her shrimp/chicken fried rice.

Hunan L'Rose is an Odenton (properly pronounced 'Odington, hon') institution. I've been eating there for well over 20 years now and just keep going back. I've eaten real Chinese food in, well, Taiwan, Hawa'ii, San Francisco, and Rockville. Hunan L'Rose, by and large, serves lower-case 'c' chinese food -- Americanized, but very well done. No scary cuts, tripe, or whole animals on a plate. Just very well done, familiar dishes. The particular standouts for our family are the dumplings and hot & sour soup. We never go with less than 2 orders of dumplings (even when it's just me!). They are very Northern style with thick, chewy-tender skins and delicious filling. The lo mien is also a must-have. It's a fantastic place to take the family when you want more than just the 'take-out' experience. The enormous fishtank is what the kids remember, plus the little dish of sherbet served at the end of the meal.

The best of the local Chinese joints in this area in my humble opinion. The ambience is nice in the restaurant, no delivery, pickup only, and the dinner portions are large. A bit costly, but good food; lunch is pretty reasonable though. If you're just craving a shrimp dish however, make sure you don't order something that has "jumbo" shrimp and ask for no vegetables. (i.e. Shrimp and Broccoli dish w/ no broccoli... X-D) That will get you 8 pieces of shrimp in sauce; which I have to tell you looks pretty sorry in one of those Chinese takeout cartons.

Great food. Wonderful staff ... best dish is spicy shredded chicken. Yum. Been eating here since middle school. Now as a 30 year old I make sure I grab some when I'm in town.

My friend who works nearby wanted to eat at someplace where she could go back to work within the hour.. so this was it. When we lived here 7 years ago, I used to shop at Fashion Bug next door for cheap clothes. Believe it or not, I still have a nightie from there that is still in decent conditions, lol. Anyways, getting back to the review. I have always heard that Hunan L'Rose was a great place to eat at, but never got around to it. Staff is uber friendly. In fact maybe a little too friendly, my friend said that the waiter or busboy there kept eyeing me out and I told her that it was because he was trying to figure out what my ethnic background was. I get that sometimes. Well, maybe alot here, lol. Anyways! It was only 2 of us so we just played safe and ate a combo lunch deal. I had the sweet sour pork lunch and told the waiter to make it spicy. Typical sweet sour pork with a little red pepper flakes. Nice. Fried rice was fresh and tasty, no soy sauce needed. And the egg roll, is huge, very crispy.. On top of that I had wonton soup (broth with won ton skins, don't recall if there were any meat in there), and a little sherbet in a cute cup. And a fortune cookie that both my friend and I had the same fortune and same lucky lotto ticket numbers. What I like about this place is that the staff is super attentive, comp hot tea, clean and reasonable food for your buck. Food is good too. Stop here if you don't want Panda Express. This place is more hubby's speed so I'll come back with him in tow.

My family has eaten here (usually take out, sometimes sit down) for 15 years; we love this restaurant. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food is consistently fresh, tasty, and timely. Atmosphere is warm, casual, and accommodating, all while offering white linen style and top quality service. Not understanding the 1star ratings at all.

For lunch I had a great experience at Bangkok Kitchen with Red Curry Pork with coconut sauce. Boy was it good. This evening I found myself back in the Odenton area and decided to visit Hunan L'Rose. I ended up having Curry Beef which had a green curry sauce, onions and peas over rice. Although it was listed as spicy it was very mild but extremely tasty. To top it off they also give you a little scoop of sherbet ice cream with your fortune cookie. The atmosphere at this authentic Chinese restaurant was nice. As you come in you see their etched mirrors lining the wall, classy Blow Fish tank, roomy white table cloth seating with cloth napkins, friendly and attentive waitors in a very classy and friendly environment.

I've been coming here for years and it by far my favorite restaurant! I love this place. I've invited many friends and family here and they all love it! Best thing to order is the chow foon hunan style. It is my favorite Noodle dish ;) But everything here is delicious. And the service here is superb!

After moving from San Francisco, we were very surprised to find good Chinese food in our own backyard - amazed actually! Hunan L'Rose is probably between 3 and 4 stars, but because it is located in a strip mall in Odenton, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. We've only ever done carry out - can't attest to the ambiance, but the food is consistently good across the menu, well priced and way better than the humble setting would suggest.

Wanted to put a note in for my favorite non PF Chang's Chinese restaurant. It's located in the middle of a strip mall, and you can tell that it's popular with the locals because there's always cars out front and group of people at the front desk waiting for their carry out orders. Service is very attentive and no nonsense as you'll find at many chinese restaurants. Recommend the fried dumplings as they're better and larger than you'd get at most generic carry out places, along with the beef cho-cho which can be entertaining as you grill it at the table. For the entree I always get the Hot Crispy Beef. Edit: I'm downgrading my review because I suspect they changed the chef. The last 2 times I went my favorite Hot Crispy Beef isn't the same and is significantly less "crispy", which made the dish stand out. The fried dumplings are still very good and large.

This is a great "American" style Chinese restaurant with all of the classics, reasonably priced and done well. Fried Pot-Stickers, Orange Beef, Sesame Chicken, Seafood Bird's Nest and Beef Chow Fun are a few of our favorites. The restaurant decor is dated (lots of pink --- big aquarium--- cheesy music) but clean and service is always friendly, fast and efficient. Great neighborhood spot if you are not looking for anything too exotic. hardypartyreview.blogspo…

I've been going here for a long time and they definitely have some great food. Especially their spicy tangy wontons and sweet and sour chicken, at least they are my favorites. If you can catch them during lunch they have "lunch boxes" where you can really get the best deal. The staff is great and the service is 95% of the time fast and correct. The only downside to hunan l'rose is that they don't deliver. If you have never eaten there you should check it out.

Hunan L'Rose was by far the WORST Chinese food I have EVER eaten. It was awful. It was overpriced, greasy, and mushy - and not in a good way. Ugh. I will never go back here. My whole body felt disgusting after eating this. If you want Chinese food in the Odenton area, go to Grace Garden on 175 or China Sea (not as good as Grace Garden, but 1000% better than Hunan L'Rose)

    (1)
  • A C.

I agree with Stephanie. Absolutely, no question about it, the worst Chinese food I've ever had the misfortune of eating. It makes my top five worst restaurants ever. The first time, about a year ago, I thought it perhaps was a bad night. The second, the other evening, was worse. They won't get a third shot with me. Clearly the food was leftover and warmed up again, probably from at least the day before, if not older. Gross, disgusting, and not even "Americanized" Chinese food. Yuck. This was take-out, and the cashier kept trying to get me to order even more food. All in all, a completely horrible experience.

Hunan L'Rose is consistently an excellent chinese/hunan restaurant that we have gone to for years. The food is always top-notch and consistent, which makes it a place you can count on to deliver the same level of quality time after time. It's definitely worth the drive over to pick up Carry Out if you aren't up for eating out on a given night. Highly recommended.

  • Teresa W.

This is the best place around for Hunan food. The service is top notch, the food is wonderful and the drinks great. Everything is reasonably price and there's always enough food to take home when I go. The owner is friendly and personable and chats with the customers during downtime. People come from all over to eat here.

My family LOVES Hunan L Rose! We always get the Hot and Crispy Beef (which I have not found elsewhere) - It's out of this world - or the Curry Shrimp!!! And I love the Singapore Slings! Cat is a wonderful hostess who always takes a family photo of us when we are celebrating a special occasion. Highly recommend!!

  • Tracy C.

I have been going there for over 15 years. The service is great, food is wonderful and restaurant is clean. I have family who live in laurel, glen burnie and perry hall and they drive to odenton to get the best Chinese food around. It is always perfect.

  • Darrell K.

Great value with lots of choices. Seems like the same sauce, which is good, is used for all the dishes. I would like to have more variety in taste. But they do a nice job, have good service and good value.

  • Kimberly D.

Love the Hunan L'Rose, it's family style serving for dinner which is great since I don't tend to eat a full portion at most restaurants, it's lovely to get 2 or three dishes to share with family or friends and get to try a little of everything without bringing a ton home. The tea is hot, the sherbet is cold, and the fortune cookies are fortuitous and crunchy.

  • Beth N.

Awful food and was not clean at all! There was a roach crawling around on the table and while we were there, the pest control guy was walking around checking for mice! Ugh...never again will I eat here!

  • Larry And Christina F.

Not a fan of the food. Came on a Sunday with friends and we ordered a bunch of dishes to share. Had the appetizer platter and the dragon soup, which was alright. All of the entrees were too salty, even the fried rice that came with the dishes wasn't good. The only dish we managed to finish that actually tasted good was the General Tso chicken (which is so typical I rarely order it). Thank goodness we ordered it last minute!

Best water boys this side of 175. The food is also good. Great egg drop soup and Chicken with Black Bean sauce.

  • Sabina B.

I've been going here for almost 20 years. It has gone downhill. The food is not great anymore. I notice on sundays its the worst. Take the drive to fortune Cooky in Glen Burnie- you won't be disappointed. The service/decor/water glass always full is nice.

  • Yeong M.

Agree with comment on decor Definitely could use a facelift. The food on the other hand is still some of the best Chinese food in and around baltimore much better than some of the swankier spots in downtown We usually dine in and around Columbia or Ellicott city as a family but for food made with care we go out of the way for this spot. Took the kids roller skating and then here for lunch It must be crab season. The soft shell crab dish was excellent. The seafood chow fun was right on. The kids split chicken broccoli which wasn't too bad The economy is stinks but the boss should definitely consider some renovation

This is my favorite place in Odenton to eat. I lived around here for years and this is the only Chinese our family eat! Came back into town this weekend and had to have it! Kung Poa, Beef and Broccoli, Steamed Dumplings, Beef on a stick, and General Tso Chicken (spelling might be off). I will always stop by when I'm in town! Love love love!

Had the Sesame Chicken and the Garlic Broccoli...Was extremely pleased!

Tried this place Friday have to say it was really good food nicely seasoned service very attentive! I got the sesame chicken although I would prefer all white meat it was good my boyfriend got the Happy family it was very good ....Happy in my mouth along with some plum wine yummy love plum wine! I also liked the little sherbet dessert you get at the end along with a hot towel for your hands we will definitely be back.

The food is pretty good but, they do not like black people.

  • Kevin B.

Horrible food, sagging ceiling tiles, slow service, bugs flying around. What happened to this place? I used to really like the food but this last time was horrible. Goopie, sloppy, under done chicken that gave me quite a few trips to the restroom the next day. The decor is so dated and it just looks dirty and gross. The back area near the restroom is cluttered with supplies and drinks. The customer shouldn't see these things. At one point I had to get our waitress to refill my drink - this was surprising as in previous visits they'd top off your water after one sip. OWNERS: Stop, look around and really take in what you have to offer as a product. I won't be back!!!

Awesome place! As a loyal customer for well over 20 years, I only have good things to say about Hunan L' Rose. Never been disappointed! Best Chinese food in Maryland! I love their General Tso Shrimp, Crispy Beef and Chicken with Broccoli. Nice touch with the Steam towel and ice cream at the end of the meal; exactly same as 20 years ago.

    (5)
  • Chelsea C.

I've been coming here since I first moved to Maryland, 15 years ago, and it has never been a bad experience. I usually get the beef cho-cho to start off with and then some fried rice and lo mein. The food is amazing and recently I've decided to try some more things. I've gotten the beef and broccoli and the beef is juicy and the vegetables are tasty. I would suggest going here if you want to have amazing chinese food and service.

  • Christine A.

The BEST Chinese restaurant in the Odenton/Annapolis/Crofton area. It's a little more upscale than your generic Chinese place with the greasy tables and yesterday's re-fried fried rice. Think white table cloths, golden pink cloth napkins, exceptional service, hot towels, and a cute little scoop of complimentary orange sorbet to top off your meal. Expect to pay $50-60 for dinner for two...but you will really enjoy homemade pancakes for your moo shu pork, fresh whole fish, and seasonal chef specials that change on a regular basis. Sometimes I get carried away and order 4 take-out entrees for two people. I then spend the next 20 mins driving home trying to figure out a way to explain why I just paid $75 for Chinese food to my husband. But, an hour later, were both comatose on the couch and can barely move due to the utter satisfaction of gluttony...so we don't even talk about the $75 anymore. We just fall asleep, happy. Go try it...maybe you'll fall asleep happy too!

  • Nancy A.

Predictably good Chinese food, and I am very choosy about the Chinese places I like! The decor is a bit dated, but the food is quality and the service is good. Nice touch with the hot towels and orange sherbet at the end of the meal!

  • K B.

Nice restaurant with great food and service. Almost like fine dining. We enjoyed the nice salt water fish tank with a variety of fish - a nice change from the usual gold fish/koi tanks that are common to Chinese restaurants. We had the sesame chicken and chicken and mixed veggies. The portions are very large. Good prices for the quality of food and service. Fortune cookies and scoop of sherbet are a nice complimentary treat to end the meal.

The food is pretty terrific. I love thier General Tsos. The chicken is perfectly cooked, plump and wet from the yummy, spicy sauce. Its a real crowd pleaser. Thier HOTT AND CRISPY BEEF is to absoultey die for. Its got a savory-sweetness that is delish! The drinks are strong as hell. I did a few Jack and Cokes and wow... I was feelin it. Generous bartender... We appreciated you! Service is great. Prices are great, I took a star off for the cleaniness of the resturant. Its not terribly clean. Needs a good carpet shampoo and maybe a fresh coast of paint? A lil dingy and trashy looking. We will be back. The food and cocktails make this place a real winner! Tung Tung Tai ! Bon Appetite!

First night in our new little town after moving from NYC, no place was open after we unpacked and this was about a half mile away so we gave it a shot. First thoughts... ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THESE PRICES?! "Oh well, money isn't that big of a deal we have been eating 20+ dollar plates in NY forever, lets still give it a shot honey, maybe it is worth the bill." NO NO NO NO. Quite possibly the worst chinese food I have ever had. Soggy egg rolls, flavorless lo mein, garlic sauce sans garlic, etc. etc. etc. It is one thing to produce a poor product and charge accordingly, but two entrees and two apps coming to sixty dollars? This is chinese in odenton, not Perse in Columbus Circle. Now, we ate here around a year and a half ago when we moved and I had to write this review now as I saw a coupon in the paper and am just beyond myself they are still open with such low quality food and outrageous prices. One plus, the service was friendly and quick, perhaps because the place was near empty.

Best Chinese food I've had!! This will become one of our favorite new places to eat. The spring roll and won ton soup was the fabulous. The shrimp fried rice was some of the best we've ever had. We also had hunan shrimp, beef and broccoli, and their version of drunken noodle. All impressive!

  • Danielle K.

Had lunch here on a Friday with a couple of girlfriends. We were seated promptly and the staff was friendly. I ordered from the "combination" section of the menu and had the Kung Pao Chicken. The waiter asked if I wanted mild or spicy and I decided to go for it - SPICY! With the combination plate you get soup, egg roll and fried or white rice. All plates come with water, hot tea, and a tiny bowl of orange cream sherbet at the end with your fortune cookie. Food: I can't say mine was exactly spicy. But all things considered, I am from the gulf coast and have made or eaten Cajun food my whole life - so my idea of spicy is different from other people's; especially in other parts of the country. The chicken and veggies were really good along with the sauce and the egg roll was one of the best I've had in years. The restaurant is very clean and the ambiance is great as well. All of the servers wear tuxedo shirts and bow ties which is super cute. Overall the whole meal was great and the little bowl of sherbet at the end was perfect. Just perfect!! I will be eating here again, and if my family wants Chinese food, we'll just be ordering take out from this place instead of visiting a buffet. Awesome!

I have been dining at Hunan l'Rose for at least a decade. They always produce delicious food. Packed with happy customers on week nights with everything from families to couples on dates. Service is friendly, quick, and efficient. Their food is always delicious, hot, and well made.

I love love love this place! I've been going here for 15 years. It's a hometown place where everybody knows your name. My kids love the fish tank in the restaurant. Some of my favorite dishes are beef with broccoli, spicy wonton soup, kung pao beef, sesame shrimp, and love their wonton soup!

Went here about a month ago. Everything we had, including the mixed drinks from the bar were excellent. It's a little bit overpriced in my opinion, but the portions are huge (like 3 meals huge). The restaurant itself is in DIRE need of a remodel. To be more specific, it's like a prom from the 80's. Pink and grey wallpaper, pink tablecloths with fake flowers in vases, and old half moon tables. Crocket and Tubbs would feel right at home, sockless loafers and all. If you focus on the food, however, you barely notice how dated the place is. All of the servers were extremely attentive- much more like a fine dining restaurant then a Chinese place in a strip mall. My favorite part of the meal was the Pu Pu platter appetizer. It came out on this volcano-esque platter/tray with fire burning out of the top. The platter itself was like a flaming lazy Susan, so you could spin the volcano around to grab whatever you wanted to at at that moment. Totally cheesy, but totally fun too! Go, and be magically whisked away to your 80's Asian paradise!!!

Come here every year for family birthdays. The staff is awesome! Always try their best to please the customer. I typically order orange chicken at most Chinese restaurants and I have to say: their orange chicken was delicious. The chicken was crispy and not too salty!

Dependable Chinese food for the unadventurous. Not bad, not exceptional, well-executed, all the familiar favourites are here. You could take any member of your family and they would have a good time. And that's no small thing.

This is 1 of the 2 chinese restaurants my parents use to always take us to. The food is realllllllyyyy good and fresh. I always order hunan dishes here. Have been a few times in the last few years with friends and they love it. Just wish the staff was a little more friendlier like they used to be years ago.

Ehhh, just an average Chinese restaurant. It looks pretty fancy on the inside, but the food is just ok. The steak in my pepper steak was really tough and it was lacking a little bit of flavor. The service was pretty good.

Nicer, white table cloth, keep you water glass full Chinese. No matter how full they are and how many people we how up with the staff quickly shuffles tables and quickly seats us. Everything I have had is above average. Service is always good. Try the seafood in a birds nest. Seafood and veggies in a nice sauce in a deep fried shredded potato nest. L'Rose chicken little stuffed cutlets-different and yummy Dumplings all very flavorful, veggie, meat steamed or fried My kids love the non alcoholic drinks complete with fruit sword and little umbrellas. They aslo love the pu pu platter that comes with a mini flaming gill.

So I just moved to the area from Columbia and decided to try this place out since it had the highest ratings out of all the chinese restaurants in the area. Well it started off good, the lady who took my order was friendly. When I picked up my food it was ready and smelling good. But the $15 charge for general tsos chicken seemed pretty steep. Yet I was still hopefully, maybe it was that good. Nope! The chicken was extremely over breaded to the point I couldn't finish my meal. Also I asked for it to be made extra spicy, and that didn't happen. And to end my meal my fortune cookie read "you are one of the people who 'goes places in life'". I wonder if they saw that I'd be "going" to another take out spot in the future. Sorry but i most likely wont be paying these guys another visit.

"It is a nice day." That was fortune we received the last time we ordered take out. And by "we." I mean my wife and I both received the same fortune in our respective cookies. That's fairly indicative of what to expect from Hunan L'Rose -- almost what you want, but just not quite there. Bottom line, the food needs more flavor. The fried dumplings, which are make with awesomely thick wontons, are the only thing I really liked. The Kung Pao chicken was bland, the veggie lo mein was super bland (if that's even a thing). Can we all get on board with the fact MSG isn't actually bad for you and start adding it to Chinese food again? Please? Thank goodness for those little packets of soy sauce. My wife ordered take-out General Tso's chicken last time I was out of town, and told me she actually had to throw it away it was so bad. Flavorless, and covered with fatty skin. Yuck. I will say that the staff has been very friendly, and although the prices do seem a bit high, you get a decent amount of food for the cost. I just wish it tasted better. Since they're so close, we'll probably give them another shot and see if there are a couple of items we can settle on that will work in a pinch. That being said, Grace Garden on Route 175 will still be my go-to Chinese joint.

I think they changed their food...and they don't give you as much at dinner time anymore :(

Human Rose isn't innovative but it's the best Chinese-American food around. Take-out is great but the real experience is sitting in the restaurant. From hot towels to start the meal to complimentary sorbet to finish, it is a great experience and highly recommend dining in!

I'm not sure why people are giving this place only one star. I've been eating here for almost twenty years. When I was in high school, I used to eat my lunches here after working the breakfast shift at a diner a few shops down. When I moved back to the area, I immediately went back to the Hunan and was delighted to see the same owners and much of the same staff. The food and service have always been consistently excellent. There is no other restaurant where I have eaten that I can give the same consistent standard. The waiters are vigilant at keeping your drinks full. The sherbet at the end of the meal is always a delight. Even the carry-out service has always been great. I usually get the Kung Pao chicken, but I've wandered all over the menu and I've never once been disappointed in the food. That's not something I can say about ANY other chinese restaurant I've ever eaten at. Of course, I've never been to China, so I have no idea how "real" this food is and I don't really care because what I've always gotten is always delicious. The atmosphere is nice, too. The etched mirrors and the giant fish tank make the place "scaleable" for a dining experience. We went there for prom dinner in high school and I've gone there just for a casual night out. I've always felt comfortable there. Give this place a shot. I pretty much guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

Predictably good Chinese food, and I am very choosy about the Chinese places I like! The decor is a bit dated, but the food is quality and the service is good. Nice touch with the hot towels and orange sherbet at the end of the meal!

I have been going there for over 15 years. The service is great, food is wonderful and restaurant is clean. I have family who live in laurel, glen burnie and perry hall and they drive to odenton to get the best Chinese food around. It is always perfect.

Great value with lots of choices. Seems like the same sauce, which is good, is used for all the dishes. I would like to have more variety in taste. But they do a nice job, have good service and good value.

Awful food and was not clean at all! There was a roach crawling around on the table and while we were there, the pest control guy was walking around checking for mice! Ugh...never again will I eat here!

I've been going here for almost 20 years. It has gone downhill. The food is not great anymore. I notice on sundays its the worst. Take the drive to fortune Cooky in Glen Burnie- you won't be disappointed. The service/decor/water glass always full is nice.

ROACH SERVED ON PLATE with fried rice ...I have eaten here for years it was the only chinese restaurant in which I would eat.I went there on saturday with friends we all had our spring roll appetizers and when our food with brought to the table there was a baby ROACH on the edge of the plate of my friends entree. we called the owner over to our showed him the ROACH left our food SITTING and left the restaurant . will never go there again some places may have ROACHEs I know but they are not served on the plate with the food.!!!! SO DISGUSTING ...

Popular local restaurant that doesn't live up to the hype. Large menu and decent prices don't compensate for bland taste and questionable quality. Unfortunately it may still be the best option for Chinese food in the Odenton/Gambrills area.

    (2)
  • Jasmine S.

Hunan L'Rose is pretty legit in terms of taste. I like the taste of their tofu options but I think it's unnecessarily expensive and they don't even deliver. I'd rather drive to Crofton for Hunan Express, which has better quality food for a cheaper price.

  • Kevin W.

    (1)
  • Jamie H.

Hunan L'rose deserves 3 stars at most. While my mom raves about the food, I find some of the usual dishes kinda bland. I also did not enjoy my spring rolls, its hard to find good spring rolls anymore.

  • courtney n.

By far this is my favorite chinese food!! The veggie egg rolls are DELICIOUS. And the staff is always friendly. Dont be fooled by the fact it's in a strip mall next to a fashion bug... the food is great and well worth driving for.

  • Will S.

So I just moved to the area from Columbia and decided to try this place out since it had the highest ratings out of all the chinese restaurants in the area. Yet I was still hopefully, maybe it was that good. Nope! The chicken was extremely over breaded to the point I couldn't finish my meal. • Frank G.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
