Went there for dinner last night, after checking in to a vacation rental......3 adults one child....for a brewery I thought they would have more selections than 5. I asked the waitress if she knew if the stout (which was outstanding btw) was brewed with chocolate....she didn't know and just mumbled something about the ingredients on the menu....she was a bit perfunctory in her duties but efficient enough. There seems to be quite a crowd thus indicating popular with the locals. Good place for families. Food was okay, not stellar, but that is usually the case with places calling themselves breweries. The pizza (which they call flatbread) was very very good....the appetizer of nachos was a plate of tostitos with slop dumped on them (would not recommend)......all in all...if you want great beer, great pizza, adequate wait service, then this is the place for you.....

Our party had the lemon and herb chicken salad sandwich, two different flatbreads, and a house salad. The chicken sandwich was oversized on a nice bun. I couldn't taste and lemon / herbs and had to add salt and pepper for a little seasoning. The flatbreads were fire on the mountain and the meat lovers. They were both very good. Service was slow.

So, it was an ok visit. Appetizers were good. Chili was the hit of the table, as was the BLT. I'd stay away from the flatbreads -- my father said he would rather go to Papa Johns. Beer was good -- the ones that I anticipated that I would like I liked. Good stop for a drink or two and appetizers, otherwise, maybe stick to just the drinks.

Flatbread was like a pizza you'd get from domino's or pizza hut - heavy, and way too much cheese.

We visit DCL a few times a year and this is always our first stop. The hummus appetizer and the Fire on the Mountain Flatbread are fantastic. Wash it down with a Cold Trail Ale...you won't be disappointed.

I think the only reason this place stays in business is because there are zero alternatives. There was no wait for our large party - that was the highlight. Cold flatbread , weak cocktails, missing drinks, waitress that almost never checked on us....salad with a dressing I wouldn't deign describe as edible. The house salad consisted of soggy croutons, 3 olives , and tasteless other additions. Hummus was a joke-oil slick on top -no flavor. I'm well aware this place has many positive reviews but I assume this is based on the lack of other choices in Deep Creek and /or where one is from ...if you don't have anything but a Perkins in your town well I'd be impressed by this place too.

Ok, not great, the fire on the mountain pizza was good, but the house beer wasn't. Overall I'd come here here again.

Great place in the backwoods with superb pizza, beer and splendid ambience. Definitely worth patronizing. Tip: get there well before the evening so you can enjoy the sunset on the outdoor seating.

  • Elisa R.

The wait is long, they won't serve you alcohol unless each individual drinking orders food, it took too long to get our food, and service was not good..some of the pizza was good. Won't be coming back.

Amazing Flatbread Pizza and the Hillbilly Punch is a must try!!

My first experience here was great. Really enjoyed the food, drinks, and service. The atmosphere is great! Will definitely go back for another visit!

Mountain State Brewery is absolutely amazing. From appetizers, beers, to entrees, this is the new place to be in DCL. The flatbreads are great; I recommend the Greek and Hawaiian. Check out their local brews. Very good!!!!

Soggy crust soggy crust soggy crust ! Learn how to use that brick oven. Not a lot of competition for pizza in deep creek so I understand the appeal. Cool atmosphere but I've never had a pizza here that didn't have an undercooked crust. Not worth the price.

This place is solid. Being from Pittsburgh, we have some very good pizza so I'm not easily impressed when out of town but this place meets the mark. Very creative and well done flatbreads. The one with the pulled pork and BBQ sauce is fantastic. The firefly with chèvre cheese was my second favorite. The beer was good but not great. It was better the last time I came. Service was very good. Wait staff is polite and attentive. It's also very good for large parties. We had 12 people and got sat immediately, though we got there at 5 and it got packed when we finished up. Prices are also reasonable so you can feed a family of 5 for well under 100. Definitely will make this a regular stop.

THis place has excellent flatbreads. Beer is good but not fantastic compared to Dogfish or Heavy Seas.

Their cheeseburger in paradise flatbread is AMAZING. I fell in love immediately! Also the homemade root beer soda is very good.

Went there on a fairly crowded Saturday night but turnover here is so quick we were able to get a table faster then their quotes wait time. The place is loud so those with kids it shouldn't be a issue. We started with chips and salsa and the Blue Ridge salad. The salsa was great but the chips were really salty. The blue ridge salad on the other hand was fresh and delicious - I'd order it again in a heartbeat and skip the chips next time. Pizza was excellent - we had the Fire on the Mountain and coming from a spice fan it definitely packs a punch. The beers weren't too bad either. My friend enjoyed the IPA and the Oatmeal Stout I really liked the Cold Trail Ale. All in all I would rate this place a solid 4 stars - with great food and decent beers I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in the area.

sorry, this place was a big disappointment. I should have turned around when I saw a customer with their dog who was sitting on a chair and eating food off the table. I tried Mountain States beers and again I sorry but they are terrible. I decided to order another beer they have on tap, Ragging Bitch IPA. The bartender didn't tell me that they cost $7.00 a pint. Come on guys, this isn't New York City. I can get the same pint in Hagerstown for $3.00. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad. Very disappointed, chicken was ice cold and the dressing was watered down. Won't go back.

Have waited 75 minutes after being told 60". Requested low table upon arrival. They will not move tables together to accommodate large parties so all that arrived after us that we're smaller than 8 have been seated. So if have a handicap or large party don't bother for here.

  • Nicole D.

Very good flat breads to compliment very good beer! I really enjoyed mine with local goat cheese and artichoke hearts, but the menu was extensive and it was hard to make a decision. A perfect companion to an ice cold Cold Trail. Sat out on the patio, and enjoyed a beautiful view. My one complaint was that our waitress was a little bit rude, and a lot bit sloowww! The table next to us was seated, ordered, ate, paid, and left before we received our food. Probably not the norm, just one slow poke.

  • Sue S.

Great food and great prices! I had the very best pulled pork I have ever eaten in my life! And that includes some great places I've been to in Nashville! I was the designated driver so I didn't try any brews, but my friends all liked theirs. They also loved their flatbread pizzas. The prices are very reasonable, too! My sandwich and an iced tea cost less than $12. Only disappointment was the chips with my sandwich were a bag of potato chips and I was looking forward to some house made chips. But the pulled pork more than made up for it! Our server was fast too, even if she wasn't so friendly.

Ok. ....first time....Cool place ...great beer...but? Bartender with a bad attitude is a major turnoff.....

If you're in Deep Creek, and you like beer and pizza, then you need to come here. For lunch or dinner, it doesn't matter. Just go. They simply make fantastic pizzas, and their craft beers aren't too shabby either. We actually went twice during our stay. The outside seating was a draw, for sure, so the rug monkeys could tear around the grass and we could drink beer. That's a combo any parent can love. So we tried various pizzas while there; the Fire on the Mountain and the Moriarty's Yardsale stood out. Fire on the Mountain, in particular -- spicy and sweet, works really well with the Almost Heaven beer. Save a little room for dessert; the Oatmeal Stout Float is surprisingly good.

Been here a few times and the food is always good, servers always polite, and am served in a timely manner. The Boars Head barbecue sand which was the best bbq I have had in western MD and the sweet tea is actually sweet. It is my favorite place to eat in Deep Creek.

On our recent trip to Deep Creek, we found ourselves at a loss for finding good restaurants. So when we went to Mountain State Brewing, we were relieved to find a nice atmosphere, good beer, and decent food. The patio out back is great- beautiful views. The building itself is cute too- old rustic looking barn charm. I ordered the Indian wrap (actually I ordered a bowl, but they brought me a wrap). It was okay - The curry was excellent, but other than that I wasn't all that impressed. Even with the curry, I thought it was a little bland. My mom ordered the Hippie tofu wrap and I had a bite. It also was a little bland for my taste- it just didn't taste like much. Since tofu takes on whatever flavors you cook it with, I thought it would be spicier or at least have some taste. Everyone else claimed to love what they ordered, so maybe we just got the wrong thing. IPA was pretty good. Home made root beer was nice and bitter. Service was great- super friendly and pretty quick. I'd come back if I were ever in the area again- I'd love to sit and have some beers on the deck (since we were with family who doesn't really drink, it wasn't exactly the right occasion for that). I would order something else food-wise, however.

In town for the week enjoying the beautiful lake. This restaurant is very laid back, Waitress was great. Beer was delicious, wish we lived closer!

Yay! I'm a fan. Pizza was spectacular - especially the Moriarty's Yardsale. The crust was thin and still hearty. It had garlic, olive oil, artichokes, and prosciutto, cooked to perfection! The beer was great, I tried the Almost Heaven Amber Ale - it was light and still had a lot of flavor. Delicious! The only thing that was lacking was service. It was super busy, so I'll give them that. But our server did not seem happy much of the time. There was also about a 45min - 1 hour wait, they did have a list, but had to walk around and yell to find the parties - there has to be a better system for that? Will return next time we go to Deep Creek! P.S. They also have games while you wait for your food to arrive! Yay for Apples to Apples!

Good service. Good beer. We especially liked the oatmeal stout. The Sunday bratwurst was delicious. Very close to Wisp.

We went there for dinner and beer after a long day of skiing at Wisp. Staff was friendly and the place was nice. We had a pizza and a flight of beer - really good and very reasonable prices. Also very close to the resort. Would definitely go again next time we're around.

The oven fired pizza's were good, but not great. A little too charred for our taste. The garlic & oil pizzas do not have much flavor and seemed dry. The kids loved that they had games to play at the table while we waited. A big selection of pizza's but, I wished they had a bigger sandwich and salad selection.

    (3)
  • Jennifer V.

Don't miss the brick oven pizzas! I did and ended up eating everyone else's at the table. Fantastic crust, sauce and topping combinations. For that fact, start out with the cheesy bread...yummmm! Terrific craft beer (I really liked the blonde ale), great ambiance and summer patio; yet kid friendly at the same time. They even have classic board games to borrow and share while you're waiting for a table. We stopped here for dinner one night while we rented a house on Deep Creek, and only wish we had discovered it earlier.

Visited towards the end of our summer vacation last July. Sat outside on patio and enjoyed the view. Delicious apps and sandwiches! We will definitely return.

  • Vicky D.

Great flatbreads with fresh ingredients. Service was good, I didn't try any beer but I will next time. Seems like a great place to hang out after hitting the slopes. It's in a terrible location (next to a cemetery) BUT apparently they have a patio where you can sit outside when the weather is nice, and the view should be great (except for the cemetery part). Shared a few pizzas but the Greek was by far the best. Will definitely come back whenever I'm in the area!

If you ever happen upon a stoner named knoll whilst drinking beer from a camelback and swimming down a river know that his advice is just and righteous. Even though he admitted to recently smoking crack while chugging whiskey and possibly providing alcohol to minors his advice holds true. If you need to find a great place to grab a brew and eat amazing pizza this is it. Even though he will sell you weed pills which you must cut with a machete while barreling down a back road he knows where to go for pizza and beer. So take his advice and check the place out and you shall find great pizza and good craft beer. Would most certainly go back.

Great craft beer and unique flatbread pizzas in a rustic atmosphere. I tried the beer sampler and enjoyed all four varieties. I'd never had a flatbread pizza with a chili-based sauce but loved the spicy sauce combined with chicken, pineapple, and bacon. Would definitely come back to try another one of their pizza creations!

After a day spent racing down the Mountain Rollercoaster and splashing in Deep Creek Lake, this is the most relaxing, wonderful place to chill on the patio enjoying a cool breeze and a nice cool brew. Ahhhhhh. First off, the brews. The hubby was very happy with the selections he sampled...I'm not a beer drinker. I am someone who enjoys a good Bloody Mary! And I certainly enjoyed a good one here. Made with house-infused chipotle vodka, no less. They had a few types of infused vodkas that evening and I tried another chill libation that used ginger-infused vodka, gingerale, mint leaves and apple juice. Refreshing! The other thing they do in-house is rootbeer and it was maybe the best of the drinks we tried. Mmmm-mmmmmm. The hubby ordered a sausage flatbread and my grandson ordered the Mushroom Medley that consisted of portobello mushrooms, fresh mozzarella, garlic and olive oil. He claimed it the best pizza he'd ever eaten! He's 10, but a connoisseur of mushroom pizzas already. My daughter and I both ordered naked burritos - her version was an unusual curry and mine was the traditional Mexican version with a good pulled beef. Both were huge, filling and delicious. As good as the food is, the service was less than stellar on our visit - definitely needs BIG improvement. The slow service - and items forgotten - at least were tempered by the beautiful view of the sunset and the surroundings fields and hills. If only there were an MSBC in Pittsburgh, I'd visit often!

Second time here in 2 days! Amazing flat bread pizzas and great beer. One of best amber ales I've ever had. Great service, cool bar and nice outdoor space. Very family friendly at lunch hours too!

  • Nikki G.

The hostess and our server were very friendly. The "Almost Heaven" Amber Ale was delicious and the Chicken pizza with pineapple and chili sause is one of the best brick oven pizzas I have ever had. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for unique, quality pizza.

I have been here many times and have recommended it to friends who have thanked me for sending them. In short, they make great pizza in wood fired ovens for a reasonable price. They infuse their own vodka and the wine list is creative. Need I say more? Well... I will. I LOVE the s'mores pizza for dessert - nutella, marshmallow cream on a crust sprinkled with graham cracker crumbs - YUMMERS! One afternoon, I sat here with a friend for several hours. We were enroute to Frederick, MD for dinner at Volt. Our plan was to find a coffee shop there and play a game (we love strategy games!) until our friends arrived. When we realized Mountain State has board games in house, we brought ours in, ordered some wine and played for a few hours until we needed to move on. The staff was happy to have us and adequately attentive. We never felt rushed or pressured to order more or move on. This is also a great place for families. It's low key and casual. The kids can make noise and a mess and no one will complain. ~Christine Zellers CEO, LBDC

Pizza is great and blue ridge salad is always a must have. My favorite pizza is Fire on the Mountain but the servers will help make the pizzas however you want it in case you want a substitution. Their beers are all pretty good as well. The service can be slow but the food is worth it. There are some ups and down with the amount of ingredients that come on the pizza but definitely a good place to grab some pizza. There are also a few TVs up at the bar in case you want to check out a game.

They have two signs hung as soon as you walk in saying "Lunch Special Sun to Thu buy one pizza get one half off." Well at noon on Sunday the manager decides the offer isn't valid on a "holiday weekend." The sign says nothing about not being valid on holidays let alone holiday weekends. The signs only fine print is when the offer expires. For a cold rainy Sunday on the day before Columbus day you'd think they'd be happy to honor their advertised lunch special. The manager refused and I refuse to go back.

  • Luke L.

I was pretty impressed with the place. The service wasn't the fastest, and the beer selection wasn't as extensive as you might expect for a brewery. That said, the beer was very good, as was the food. Definitely try the pesto pizza, but I'd pass on the burritos. The atmosphere was very welcoming and laid back--very fitting for this small town.

  • Thao N.

I'd give it a 3.5, but it doesn't let you do another half. It's better than Brenda's in my opinion. Mtn State Brew Co has thin crust. We got that fiery pizza everyone is talking about- kinda wish it had more meat though. My bf and I split a small pizza and a burger and that was good for the both of us. Burger comes with chips, we didn't bother asking, but I hope they give you the option of fries or a salad instead, probably not without paying extra. Nice location, and if you sit outside you can have a nice view of the outdoors.

My boyfriend took me here and we shared bruschetta, a large margarita pizza, and a beer flight. We then selected our two favorites and enjoyed our meal outside while the sun was setting over the hills. I have has brick oven pizza in many places from NY to Italy and this was really good pizza.

  • Jon H.

This place is mixed bag. On the positive they offer fantastic brick-oven pizza. It is truly delicious! Fresh ingredients, made with pride & it shows! Unfortunately their beer is just bad. I sampled all of their crafts and each one missed the mark, none worse than their IPA. It was a bitter-finishing, un-hoppy mess of a beer. I've home-brewed a better IPA and that is saying something because I'm not a very good home-brewer! Atmosphere is nice, as is the staff. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Deep Creek Lake area!

Best food we had in Deep Creek. Never having been to the area before, we weren't sure what to expect. Touristy food and prices to match, I guess. Well, Mountain State totally fixed our wagon, as my grandma would say. We had some local brews (my fav: Miner's Daughter Oatmeal Stout) and ordered up some flatbreads- the FireFly (special) and Fire on the Mountain. Wonderful. The Firefly used local chèvre, artichokes, spinach, and I dunno what else, but it was buttery perfection. Fire on the Mountain was spicy and sweet and meaty and tomatoey and- just awesome. Seriously, these flat pizzas totally rocked the house. We didn't have problems with service, even though our visit was last night after the Gran Fondo. While it was hoppin' in there, we had a great experience. If you are visiting DCL, go there. You won't regret it.

    (5)
  • Kalie M.

The food is delicious! We usually order the "fire on the mountain" pizza... Hard to stray from because the pizza is so yummy... My sister doesn't eat the crust just so she has room in her stomach for more pizza. This time we tried the kickin chicken pizza and it was equally delicious. If you are looking for something different both of these are delicious!

  • Janelle K.

Great atmosphere! Good pizza, good beer, but not the best in town- for pizza head to Brenda's.

    (3)
  • Jeff H.

The beer was not good. An IPA with the lack of hops and flavor desired. A stout that could be compared to a Newcastle Brown(not body). The food was okay. Had the sausage and onion pizza. Nothing that blew me away.

  • Adam M.

The setting here is great. Gets pretty busy at night. Love dropping in here for lunch. Great selection of Flatbread pizza's. I am not a vegetarian, but I noticed there are several options on the menu outside of the pizzas. You can bring your dog if you sit outback. Beer is decent. I had the IPA and my wife had a Blonde Ale. There were only about 4 draft beers to choose from. Would have liked a few other options.

Dined here for lunch twice recently and thoroughly enjoyed both times. Their beers are excellent and the pizzas, baked in their woodfire oven (check it out off the bar, is some of the best thin crust pizza I've had in a long time. Very dog friendly on their patio - they even brought our dog his own bowl of fresh water. Try it for lunch or dinner!

We went for a late lunch/early dinner on a Tuesday, so there were just a few other diners. The service was very attentive and friendly, the food and beer were delicious, and the portions were ample. We had a great experience but could see how being there at a busy time could have a different outcome.

Maybe we caught the waitress and cook on a bad night but this place was a poor dining experience. We started with spinach & artichoke dip that came out ice cold but had melted cheese on top? Clearly pre-made and pulled from the walk in fridge. We wanted to ask the waitress about the cold dip but didn't see her for 10+ minutes and had to get up and find her. We all got small flatbread pizzas and were disappointed with limp crust and the toppings sliding off each slice, that is the double whammy for bad pizza. On the bright side the oatmeal stout was tasty, perhaps you should just come here for the beer!

My husband and I drive 4 hours to get to this place and it is SO WORTH IT every time! We go once a month (since it's such a long drive). We are actually vegans but splurge when we go to Mountain State. We always order the Lemon Chicken pizza which I think is very under-rated. Order it! You will not be disappointed! Since there tends to be a bit of a wait, we always order a pitcher of beer and people-watch. I would strongly recommend Almost Heaven Ale. We've tried every beer and that is definately our favorite. They used to have a super grumpy girl that would NEVER smile as hostess but they moved her to a server. At least thats not the first face we see when we walk in now! I love pita chips and hummus but don't order it from here. Was a bit disappointed. All in all, great atmosphere, excellent food, and our servers have always been very friendly.

Sat outside on the patio at sunset- truly a beautiful view. The inside of the restaurant looked pretty unique as well. I got the indian buritto- it had a good flavor, but the rice was hard and there was way too much tortilla and it would have been much better with grilled chicken. The rest of my group got various pizzas which seemed to be pretty tasty!

I grew up close to here. I didn't visit this place until last weekend. Big mistake there. I totally pigged out. You probably would have been embarrassed to know me. I tried the Mushroom Pizza, the Fire on the Mountain Pizza, the Yard Sale Pizza, the Pesto and Prosciutto Pizza, and the Greek Pizza. The final two being my favorite. IPA is decent. Hummus is fabulous. I'm a big fan. Best place to eat and drink in Deep Creek. No question.

This fun restaurant is known for its flatbread pizzas. My husband had a small "Fire on the Mountian" pizza which he loved so much that he insisted we take it home for his family to try in Baltimore! The hummus was delicious, which is served with warm pita bread made from pizza dough. I had the chicken and pesto wrap, which was also very good!

ok, this place was fun and interesting and... kinda weird? we sat outside, and it was absolutely gorgeous! the beer came in samplers, which we loved. got a few apps which were simple but well-executed. the service was what left me with a question mark. the server was awesome at first, very chatty and funny. however, it turned quickly somewhat bizarre when she got carried away with buzzing around and making jokes and comments. we certainly weren't offended or anything (we're all proponents of off-color humor) but after awhile it was just a little too much for us. anyway, definitely stop by here to chill out and see how it goes, just be prepared for um... extremely friendly service staff.

I love this place. Went here twice over labor day weekend, both times got great service and totally enjoyed the food. I'm not a big beer drinker, but I loved the Seneca Indian Pale Ale. They have a limited menu, but the flatbreads are pretty good. We had the cheese bread, which is served on a flatbread as well. The cheese bread had great filling, although it's very filling almost like the regular pizzas. We ordered half the Cuban and half meat lovers BBQ sauce large flatbread, it was plenty of food for 5 people. The Cuban was god, but the meatlover was more filling and had a lot more flavor. The vibe at this spot is very relaxing, the view is also pretty cool.

Really looked forward to eating here on our trip to Wisp. Menu is very scattered: salads were listed before the appetizers? Also, the menus were stapled paper on a clip board. The beer I had was good, but I felt it should have been served colder. My wife and I got small salads to start. Small is right! And that's fine, but the plates they serve the salads on are way too small. The stuff falls off the plate while trying to cut the veggies. Also, they have a "side" salad and I can't imagine how small it must be. The house dressing was very bland, too. We got a margherita pizza in a medium. It was over $16 and definitely NOT worth the price. The crust and sauce were tasty, but the value for what we got just wasn't there. Service was spotty...seemed good at first, but when we needed refills, our server was gone for a very long time. I would have tried a different beer, but the experience was so dissapointing I just opted for a glass of water before we headed out. Also, there seemed to be a lot of people working who weren't really doing anything. A lot of socializing and just chatting with each other. There were a group of guys, who we assume were bus boys, who, for some reason kept milling around the area we were dining in, but they weren't actually doing anything. They just looked bored and antsy. Made for an awkward meal. Very bummed at this lackluster experience. If this is the best the area has, Im very concerned about our next dining experience in McHenry, MD.

Great beers and very good pizza. Incompetent hostess left dozens of people standing at the entrance waiting for tables, and service was unacceptably slow, otherwise would have considered 5 stars.

Decent pizza, terrible service tonight. Friends say it's usually better, but one app arrived for the table, then entrees, then the rest of the apps. They forgot one order entirely, and made a mistake on one pizza-that took an HOUR to correct! We were finished at that point, so took the pizza home. Food though was pretty good-pizza was crisp and interesting, microbrews unique and varied, though the salad had minimal dressing. Water/drinks weren't refilled. Oh well-minor tweaks in service would result in another star, easily!

I stop here for a brew and flatbread pizza every time I'm at Deep Creek. Almost Heaven Amber Ale is my fave. Had the new Fire Fly Farm flatbread this weekend and fell in love. Moriarti YardSale is still the best. Small place but worth waiting for a table.

Being that I've stayed at the original in Davis, I'm a little swayed by the fact that I do have a connection to Mountain State in general. They have great brick oven pizzas here, the place is kid friendly, and the beer is brewed less than 45 minutes away in WV. It used to be a locals only spot but with the popularity of the spot, lots of other folks know about it. Cold Trail Ale was always good and there are some pieces missing from the toys but that's hardly anything to complain about.

Went back on July 10, 2013 as part of our annual trip to Deep Creek Lake. Food was still yummy, view just as gorgeous, and service improved dramatically from last year. but the beer wasn't as good as last year.

I loved this place! Great beer & awesome woodfire oven pizzas! It has a great warm feeling, very log cabinish. Sadly No growlers on sundays! So stock up on saturday! I wish I had a place like this down the street from me!

This place was just okay. The beer was very tasty..and we sat outside so it was a truly incredible view. There was a lot of selections on the menu and a lot of things sounded good. I got some kind of wrap and it was just okay..the chicken was very dry. I tried a bit of everyones...The Thai wrap was pretty good...The burritos were almost all beans and breading. This place is very open to the outdoors, so it makes sense that creatures get in every once in a while. But my friend saw a mouse in the main dining room. Over all this place was nice, our waitress was very friendly and helped us a lot.

I really want to give Mountain State a better review, but I just can't. The pizza is very good, the beers are good. It is the service that I can't overlook. You have to give yourself a good 2 hours to get in and out of there, and I don't know why... Perhaps the pizzas take a long time in the brick oven, but everything takes a long time, the beers, the check. The servers aren't bad, I just think that they probably have too many tables in their sections and can't keep up with it all. Pizzas are great, the wraps I do not think are as good as the pizzas are overall. The salads are also good. On a nice day, hanging out on the back patio is great to see the sunset. It is a great place for kids as they have lots of old board games that the kids can pull out and play with at their tables.

Tried their Cuban Flatbreat Pizza as recommended by a waiter and it was fantastic. Recommend it if you're not sure what to get. Was a tad pricey for gourmet pizza. Beer was good. Not brewed locally as I thought going for the 1st time. Also if you ask nicely, they gave the wireless password.

My wife was rafting with some friends Summer 2010 and Brian was filling in as a guide. He suggested they try MSBC. What a story....the kind I love...as it turns out MSBC is Brian's baby (well his and his brothers').The next time I was up the two of us went over. Love the back open bar. Almost heaven. We were up for one of their anniversary events (5 year ?). The field was full, I figured we wouldn't get in. We did, got seated and considering the kind of night, service was good. The beer was great. The menu is ....well keep it simple. That's OK - as long as you keep it good. They do. Looking forward to the Summer of 2011....its a little off the beaten path, but I'll be there.

I bring all my out of town friends here when he go to the lake. The beer is great, the food is great, and since they've started infusing their own liquors I'm even more happy. A MUST when going to Deep Creek.

The beer is awesome. The selection of brews is small but varied and interesting. The menu looks pretty boring and like standard bar fare (sandwiches, burritos, pizza) but it is actually really fresh and well-prepared--not bar crap at all. The atmosphere is really relaxing and the service is great.

Contrary to other posters, we had excellent service. We ordered the cheese plate and two wraps. Everything was just okay: the chicken in the wraps was pretty dry, but the sweet tea was really delicious. I would definitely try the pizza if I went there again - they have a huge assortment. Would've loved a summery wheat beer on the warm day, but their beers are more on the hoppy side..

Best place around deep creek lake! My favs are the fire on the mountain pizza with the IPA. We have been here quite a few times through all seasons and have always had great service, food, and beer. If mt. State was located on 219 with everything else you would never be able to get a table, I guess location is part of the charm.

Best place to drink on the lake, even though its not on the lake! I love the original brews, food, atmosphere, staff, and the fun!! I have never been there and not had a good time, EVER! The brick oven pizza is out of this world! I strongly recommend that, if you make it out this way, stop in for a Fire on the Mountain pizza and a 50% stout/50% IPA.

Stopped for a quick bite and a couple beers. Very satisfying. Beers are clean and well made. Not a huge selection on the day we were there, but it looks like they have plenty of taps they can fill. Pizza was very good, made hot and fresh in a wood fired stone oven, within sight of the bar. Service was great, admittedly, we were sitting at the bar and there weren't a lot of folks there in the middle of the afternoon. But, they took good care of us - food was up quickly and glasses were refilled as they were emptied. Would absolutely return again!

Great pizzas (flatbreads) and beers. Very laid back environment, we really enjoyed going there a few times this winter. Looking forward to catching sunsets in the valley during the summer. Try the Hawaiian flatbread with prosciutto and pineapples, very very tasty! Singer and the gang make it a great atmosphere, worth checking out.

Our first night out during our first time in the deep creek area...and thanks to Yelp we chose MSBC as our first dinner. It was fanFREAKINtastic! Everything that was delivered to our table was well above average including my Sweet Tea ( by far the best I have ever had...) the rest of the table really raved about the beers, which aren't brewed on site but close by at the original location in WV. For apps we got the cheesy bread, which was very tasty but the marinara dipping sauce was top notch. We also ordered the Berry Delight, a flatbread with macerated berries and Brie. It was by far one of the best thing I have ever had the pleasure of eating, simple but the berries were fresh and juicy with just enough sweetness and the Brie was the perfect compliment. So delis! For our main course, we ordered a seasonal flat bread a BBQ Bourbon chicken one...it was fantastic. Not too spicy, not too sweet, and the chicken was plentiful and juicy. The food did take awhile but then again everything we ordered was cooked in the wood fired oven so, that should be expected. The service was friendly, they are a bit slow but that is just kinda the vibe of the place. It's very hippy laid back feel, so expect to sit back and relax and talk about your day while enjoy some awesome food!

Got to the restaurant by 5:15 on a Saturday night to beat the crowds. I had read about their smores pizza earlier and had been looking forward to it for dessert. First thing - the pizzas are a lot bigger than you'd expect - small that they say feeds 1-2 feeds 2-3 - and we are not light eaters. You have to wait a long (long, long, long) time for the pizzas too so plan on drinking a few beers or ordering some appetizers - and don't come with hungry kids. It took almost an hour from when we ordered to when we were served. I ordered our dessert pizza early so it would be ready but it was given to the next table by mistake (before they even got their dinner) but they were so happy to have any kind of food at all they served it to their kids immediately. We then waited a really long time for them to figure out the mistake. We asked for the check which again took a while (long periods where we didn't see our waitress). There wasn't much of an apology other than to tell us that they took that pizza off of our check (which since it never came is the least to be expected). Overall, though the pizza was decent, I don't know if I'd go back just because of the wait time.

This is one of the better restaurants in Deep Creek. It is a very casual brewery with great brews and good food. They brew four of their own beers. I tried the light beer and the amber and both were very good. They also have a substantial list of other beers as well. The food is yummy but not quite worthy of 5 stars. I tried their pizza which I liked and the Caesar salad was great!!! Also try the cheesy garlic bread which is delicious. I will definitely be back.

We stopped into Mountain State during our family trip to Deep Creek Lake. Overall, it was a nice experience and they had good beers, but it wasn't anything to write home about. We ordered some nachos to start, and they were average at best. The pizza was delicious and was large enough for 2-3 people to share. It was good, and complimented the beer very well. Their beer selection was amazing for the area, and the restaurant was very spacious.

I had a blast playing games, drinking beer and hanging out with friends here over the weekend. The bar area is small, so I am glad we got there early enough to beat the dinner rush. We snagged a hightop and I loved the sawhorses that had been re-purposed into bar stools. I really liked the sampler of beers we tried: the oatmeal stout was my favorite. I also loved the bourbon barrel aged beer they had featured and was bummed they don't sell it by the growler. Lastly, all the food that went by us looked and smelled fantastic. I really wish I had known of this place sooner as we probably would have spent more time here rather than wasting time elsewhere in the area. This will absolutely be my go to when we are at Wisp next time.

One of my favorite places during our long weekend stay! Casual fun atmosphere! I had the salad with the raspberry vinaigrette and the cheese sticks. The dressing was like a raspberry smoothie - delicious. Husband had pulled pork and liked the addition of the jalapeño's. The other couple had a flatbread pizza. Very good. I had the hillbilly punch which was very tasty. The others tried each of their beers and really enjoyed them. The prices were probably about $$ but the food and scenery were worth every penny. We sat outside and it was a perfect evening. Came inside and had a beer or two at the bar. Has a rustic log cabin type feel inside. Our waitress was wonderful and offered suggestions for dinner. Employees were very nice and attentive especially for how busy they were. Several customers were complaining about the A/C being broke but even with that it wasn't overly hot inside. Will definitely be back!

Great food, atmosphere and beer. This was my first visit during a weekend trip to the Deep Creek, MD area for the Autumn Glory Festival. We had considered it our first day there but figured it would not be family friendly and we were traveling with two children near the age of 2. It wasn't until someone suggested it to us the next day and mentioned that it was super family friendly that we decided to give it a try. I would love to go back when it's warmer and sit outside in their back patio area to enjoy the scenic view.

Connor the bartender was very informative and nice - gave us samples of multiple beers as we decided. They have 4 house taps and 10 additional (room for more) taps of other craft brews. This place is not where you go for a coors light or miller...craft brews only which is fine for me! Got personal size pizzas (available for order at bar only) for $8-$10 and the house sangria (on tap, say WHAT?!?!) was only $5 and change. Come here if you're hungry and smart.

This was our second visit and I was thinking 4 stars was perfect until our dinner Sunday night. Don't go on a Sunday. Why? They are apparently out of everything after a busy weekend. None of their own brews were available (really? none?!) and they were out of peanut butter pie. Sigh. Sadly none of his and hers favorites were to be found. That said, the food here is pretty good. We like to split the Blue Ridge Salad (greens, blue cheese, walnuts, cranberries - $8.95 for a large) and then a pizza. The Sweet Kickin' Chicken is good (chicken, bacon, pineapple, spinach, onion with sweet chili sauce), but leftovers didn't heat well thanks to the spinach. Like spicy? Try the Fire on the Mountain (pepperoni, sausage, banana peppers, onions and a biting chipotle sauce). Pizzas are $10-$25, depending on size and toppings. Kid's options are traditional - chicken nuggets, cheese pizzas, etc. Kid's drink not included. Smaller groups (four or less) seem to be seated in the bar area, and the other two rooms looked like all big groups at long tables or wide booths. The chairs in the bar area aren't very comfy. Two bathroom oddities -- the door to the ladies room is directly next to the pizza oven and prep station, and the container of pizza servers is on the ledge between the prep area and the door. And - this is weird - the toilet paper rolls are on the wall behind the toilets, so you have to either get some in advance or do some fancy twisting to reach it.

My family and I came down to Deep Creek, MD for a week long vacation. We are only 3 days into the vacation and we have been here twice. The atmosphere is incredible (cozy, energetic, fire smell, fire light, wood). The food and beer are good as well! I would definitely recommend anyone in the Deep Creek area to check out this restaurant!!

Our second time here while out at Deep Creek. First time was in the winter which was slow but still nice. This time service was great, sat in the bar area. Great beer selection. Had the cheeseburger in paradise pizza and it was top 5 i've ever had in 32 years of eating pizza. The pickles and sauce on the pizza are incredible. My wife had the greek pizza which was also really good. Reasonably priced for the area.

While up with friends in the Deep Creek area, we had decided on checking out Mountain State Brewing Co. for dinner. We had earlier purchased the IPA within the form of the bottles and were quite happy with the quality. So, the actual brewing restaurant and bar could only get better...right? Unfortunately...wrong. I ordered the stout for myself and my friends ordered a pitcher of the IPA for themselves. These were the only and last beers we ordered while at dinner. Both the IPA and the stout were flat and watery. As hard as it would seem to me, conceptually, for a brewing company to be worse than bud, coors or miller lite. And, even calling out the fact that they don't serve those beers, I would have rather had a coors than to have drank what I drank with dinner. For dinner I had the Apple Butter Pulled Chicken Sandwich. The best part of this sandwich was the brioche bun. The chicken was dry and the bbq sauce was something that would have been better suited for ice cream, it was so sweet. Supposedly the pizza was 'relatively' good that my friends had, which is the only reason this review is 2 stars instead of 1. I'd suggest cooking for yourself and buying some beer at one of the local booze stores instead of making the effort to drive to Mountain State Brewing Co.

A surprise find for me in the middle of the touristy Deep Creek Lake. I wanted a cold brew and a little snack and ended up with a beer sampler and pretty good flatbread pizza. The beer sampler comes in 4 or 5 thin "mugs" for $5.25 and a little over $6. I just had their staple sampler of their Blonde, Almost Heaven, IPA, and oatmeal stout. I would pass on their blonde as it was just beer and their IPA wasn't down my alley either. I was pleasantly surprised by the oatmeal stout. I am not a stout fan but I wouldn't have minded another one. Their Almost Heaven is also worth drinking. They had a winter sampler for $10 which I now wished I would have tried but I also like to taste the staples at a brewery. The Flatbread pizza was very good as my wife and I split a medium Great Escape. This is a pasta-alfredo sauce with spinach, feta, romas, and chicken. I loved it as the crust was crispy and the Feta was plentiful. We had two slices to bring home as it was perfect for 3 people. It cost around $18 which I thought was a little high compared to flatbread pizza in Columbus. I would return here as it is much better than the local competition in the area. I was a little scared about slow service from a few reviews but our waitress was quick and attentive. We asked for her choice between two pizzas and she didn't waver but told us her favorite of the two without being like some waitresses who say both are good. We were in and out in under 45 minutes and the place had a good number of people there as well.

We ordered take out from MSBC last Saturday when we arrived in town. We shared 2 pizzas, a salad and the beef nachos. We got a pepperoni pizza and the firefly pizza. Both were good--the firefly pizza was outstanding! T he beef nachos were good. The salad was a waste. Lettuce with little else. Don't waste your money on a salad - very dissappointing. Glad we got take out as the wait to be seated was 40 minutes. Recommend getting the take out!

The beer is nothing special here, but the food makes it all worth coming here. The kicking chicken pizza was amazing. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the pineapple on top gave the spicy sauce that the chicken was in a great balance of sweet and spicy. I also had the bison burger which was jammed packed with awesome flavors, I also like the fact that it was shredded beef rather than a patty. I had the sampler of their beer, the IPA was boring, my favorite was the stout. Nice atmosphere, they had a live band that played all sorts of muisc from country to sublime.

We were up here on mini vacation, thanks to groupon I got a two night stay in a log cabin for way cheaper than there face value price. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were deciding on dinner. After checking out what this town had to offer we choose the pizza at MSB. This place was cozy with a log cabin style design as most of the restaurant there. It wasn't busy so we were seated right away. Something interesting i found out. Garrett County is a Dry county. Meaning that on Sunday they don't sell Beer or Wine at all although you can order it in a restaurant as long as you place a food order first. I was surprised. At first I thought it was something specific to that restaurant but then i learned more from some of the locals. We ended up ordering the Kickin Chickin and the Big Fat greek pizza. Both had plenty of toppings to make them a great pizza but nothings better than the crust and sauce. These pizzas unfortunately did not have such a tasty crust. I was a little disappointed. It was rather tasteless like wheat bread but the toppings were still good. They make an awesome Rum Beer Float and i had one with ice cream. My hubby tried the 3oz 4 flights beer which was an ipa, an amber ale, a regular ale and a stout. My favorite was the amber ale it was the only beer that didn't taste bitter. We enjoyed watching them toss the dough in the kitchen and the service was good but i think if i ever returned i'd go with a sandwich instead of a pizza.

I am leaving 2 stars instead of 1 as I wanted to allot that our party was 11 people so I understand the service issues. That being said, 3 out of our 4 pizzas were cold. The large salad we ordered was just a pile of lettuce with 3 onions on it. Also the house salad dressing was inedible and it took 15 minutes to get the waitresses attention to get another. Also the house beer was good but stay away from the specialty drinks. To be fair if the pizza was hot, I think it could have been pretty good. Howevr there are better pizza places in deep creek.

lots of local craft beers and regional beers. Pizza menu seemed to have changed recently (Summer 2014) for the better -- lots more interesting flavor combinations. (They call them "FlatBreads") Some highlights of the FlatBreads are (1) Cheeseburger in Paradise which is hamburger, sliced romas, and pickles mozzarella and American cheese. and (2) Olive Another, which is olive tapenade, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers & mozzarella. The Spinach & Artichoke Dip is highly recommended. lots of parking for lunch but Friday nights for dinner can get crowded, even in the off season.

Our Family Vacations here almost every year and this is without a doubt the worst place to eat but the best place for the young kids to play outside so ergo the dilemma. Last Night was no exception to past experiences. Large party of 14. They were out of half of their beers. The appetizers were spinach and artichokes (good), baked potato flat bread (ok), Nachos (so so because half of the pile was just chips so limited amounts of the toppings). The Service was way below par. Saw our waitress 3 times in almost 1.7 hours. My sister did all of the clearing, serving, and still left an excessive tip. Northern people are like that IMHO. Stay away from the Flatbreads. My Nephew ordered the Cuban and it was literally a pizza crust with Kraft BBQ sauce, 2 ounces of pulled pork, 6 strips of green pepper, and mozzarella cheese. Awful. We ended up bringing half of it home and no one out of 14 people wants to touch it. Getting ready to check out so throwing it out since it is to sweet for the ducks. The Hawaiian Pizza was exactly what you'd expect so lots of pineapple chunks from a can of Doles and very little ham. The Cubanize Sandwich left two people shocked from the excessive garlic so be prepared. Presentation was good throughout the meal since my sister took charge to 'help out' the waitress. The Chicken Caesars Salad was exactly that. So So... Overall I will never go back. $200 tab for 7 adults and 7 kids and about 8 beers plus chow. The best pizza I have ever had was Papa Johns 'The Works' Thin Crust and for half the price I would have gotten something that doesn't even compare. The atmosphere was somewhat rural and the view of the 400,000 volt power lines priceless. What I really wanted was a fresh Chef's Salad. They don't have one. How about a fully loaded pizza? Don't have one. Splenda? Forget about it. Great Service at a fair price? Forget about it. This is a place probably more appealing to the Locals than Tourist that come back year after year. The young kids like it but the adults suffer. Freedom of Choice.

Excellent food, huge portions, good prices. I usually get the pizza here, but on my last visit got the pulled pork bbq ($8) and the cheesebread ($6), which was like a small pizza. The sandwich alone could have been enough for 2 meals for a normal person (I am not normal, though). Beers were good. I think they have 4 of their own, and 2 guest taps. I tried a guest tap - $5 for a DB IPA. By DC standards, that's a steal. I suggest going on the early side - the service is very, very slow. We got there at 5.20 pm, and left around 8. Just getting checks and paying up took over an hour. If the weather's good, sit outside. Gorgeous views.

Visited this brewery as a result of reviews on here. We WERE NOT disappointed. The night we went was a fund raising event for a local dog rescue so there were a lot of dogs welcome on the outside patio. My parents loved it because they had drove over from Michigan and saw that as an opportunity to bring their cockapoo to dinner with us. It was a great event... Anyway... The Beer: We had the IPA and really like it. Well, we liked it so much we went with a growler to take back to the house we rented!!! The pizzas: We had a pretty good variety on our table. I would like to pick a favorite, but will say that we ordered 5 different ones and they were all very good. Only thing I would like to see is maybe a good balsamic to drizzle over a couple of the selections we had... The service was a tad slow for as busy as they were. Not sure if that is the norm, but we did have to ask for help getting more beer or additional food a couple of times (if it were only once I would not mention it). That is the only thing that kept me from giving them a 5 star...

Service was horrible! Our server totally ignored us. My husband had to find her after about twenty minutes of no drink refills. She was really attitudey about it, too. After she brought our food, she did not come back until the end of the meal. My husband's BLT hadn't come with any mayo. He waited and waited and finally had to do without. When we finally saw her and asked for some, rather than going to get it, she said "did you order it with mayo?" I mean you have to special order condiments on your sandwich? Their menu has not changed since we were there last year. I wish there was more variety.

Pretty decent craft beer...informal and relaxed ambiance and decor. Food is quite good and reasonably priced....overall a good value. Certainly one of the better choices in an area that has a remarkable commitment to mediocrity. Staff is delightful and friendly, not a given in this area where it seems many service providers are contemplating surgery without anesthesia given their demeanor and effort. The many times I have been here, I have not suffered slow service, but I can see some servers are perhaps a bit more tip motivated than others :) Occasionally have live entertainment....very dog friendly as well !

Pizzas are excellent. Place has a very friendly and open atmosphere. Great place to bring the kids. The beer is average at best, good but it's as if they forgot to carbonate it.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians.
