The barbecue was good, but what left a bad taste in my mouth was the feeling of being taken for a ride. I had one kid who wanted pulled pork. Another one wanted ribs. And I was tempted to get the sampler plate of brisket, pork, ribs and cornbread ($25). But I didn't really want the brisket. They were willing to swap it out for pulled chicken but not the bbq chicken. I'm no fan of pulled chicken, so I decided to come up with another plan. Aha! I could get the pulled pork on a plate ($9) and double down on the ribs with a half rack ($15). My estimation is that for the equivalent price tag, it should be about the equivalent amount of food. In my experience, a half rack of ribs is plenty to share between me and my young daughter. Imagine my surprise to discover a half rack of ribs is only four ribs. I thought they gave me the wrong order. So I confirmed. This is the half rack? Yep. The kicker is that the sample platter plate comes with three ribs. So, perhaps I just ordered wrong. But I also think that Archie's could do a lot more to prevent this kind of menu confusion. And upon closer examination, they price their ribs as a half order and a full order (not a half rack and a full rack). But without a clarification of how many bones you're getting, that feels deceptive. It's hard to get over that kind of disappointment, which is unfortunate. The ribs had a perceptible smoke ring. They were tender enough to pull clean off the bone, but not so overdone to be falling off the bone. Their hot sauce was a good counter to the sweeter finishing mop. And the meat tasted pleasantly porky. Still, at close to $4 a rib, it's hard to swallow. And it's even harder when you think you've ordered six ribs and getting a piece of meat that's only two-thirds of what you were expecting.

We had traveled to the area and were headed home but realized we were starving and were not wanting to wait til we got home and cooked. So we stopped here on our way out of town. The menu isn't extensive, and I found it somewhat pricey, but it tasted amazing. We were greeted immediately by the cashier who told us how to order and answered our questions. She was very friendly and basically made the whole experience great. We both ordered the two hand sandwiches (~$8), one with pulled pork and one with brisket. They don't come with a side, so we ordered mac and cheese and baked beans (~$3 each). The food was prepared quickly and tasted great. There is a reason they call them two hand sandwiches, it felt like there was a 1/2 pound of meat on each. Slightly pricey, quick service, friendly people.

The pulled pork was pretty good. Nothing super special about the sauce. Service was very friendly and they have nice outdoor seating. Wasn't a big fan of people having dogs at the outside part, but that's just me. I'm allergic.

I have eaten Bbq in a lot of places. From St. Louis to the Carolina's and on down to Texas and Alabama. Archie's is some of the worse I have ever had. A basic chicken and rib combo is $25. That's half a chicken, four ribs, and a square of cornbread. At home in Southern Maryland a seven rib and half chicken combo platter is $13. The sides were OK. I feel sorry for Garrett Co. You people deserve better Bbq. After I retire and move here, I just may open a place so you know what you're missing.

This was our second time at Archie's and surely not the last! While on vacation with my husband, and my cousin and his girlfriend, we decided to split the Mountain Man challenge, which consists of 1 rack of ribs, 1 half bbq chicken, 4 pieces of cornbread, 1 hot side dish, 1 cold side dish, 1 archie deluxe sandwich and a drink. Since the staff knew that we were just going to split the food, they gave us an extra side at no charge and split up the sandwich contents - half brisket, half pulled pork. And, they gave us each a bun. We only had to pay for 3 extra drinks. Everything was delicious! And, let's just say we all had plenty to eat and still had leftovers! Totally worth the $50! The Mountain Man Challenge wall of shame is quite funny! For those 13 or 14 out of 326 (at the time of our visit) that actually completed the challenge, I saute you! As others have mentioned, Archie's has a great atmosphere. It is a nice, clean restaurant. It is more of a fast food place in the fact that you seat yourself, grab your own condiments and drinks, and throw away your own garbage. Staff is friendly. Nice log-cabiny feel. This is a definite stop for anyone visiting the DCL area...you will not be disappointed.

I really wanted to give more stars but I can't! First of all let me say the customer services was great, as soon as we entered we were greater and the staff was extremely friendly. This was my first time visiting this area and we were looking for something basic that we could eat the next day as well. Being an country NC girl I love BBQ of any kind but this was the worst I ever had. I decided to get ribs and pulled pork and my boyfriend got ribs and chicken with green beans and macaroni as sides. When I first opened the containers at home I immediately notice the orange mush pulled pork like substance that reminded to of school lunch as a kid. I decided to take a bite but couldn't eat much more, the ribs and chicken were next. The chicken was so bland and dry, the ribs were tender but taste like nothing unless they were smothered in sauce. My boyfriend a former corrections officer (who ate the food prepared by inmates everyday) refused to eat anything except cornbread and macaroni! The next day we decided to eat burger king and subway. I really wanted to like this place, I love traveling and trying new places but this is a NO-GO

We've been going to Archie's whenever we're in the DCL area since not long after they opened. Archie's is an excellent break from the DCL norm... Pizza. Today we stopped by on our way out of town and, as usual, were not disappointed. The restaurant is always clean and has that log cabin feel inside that is common in DCL. The food is amazing and we've always received service with a smile. Our family highly recommends Archie's!

On our first night in the Deep Creek Lake area for the 4th of July weekend, my boyfriend and I went exploring. We came across Archie's BBQ and being pretty big BBQ lovers, we were intrigued by this joint in the middle of an area that has no Verizon service. Were we skeptical? Perhaps, but definitely curious. As soon as we walked in, a server handed us menus. We decided to share the sampler (brisket, pork, ribs, cornbread, and a side). Archie himself was sitting behind the counter and took our orders with a friendly demeanor. The servers bring the food to you once it's ready. We stocked up on iced teas, sauces, and utensils before taking a seat on one of the beautifully-made wooden picnic tables. The entire restaurant is designed like a log cabin and it's actually very cozy and clean inside. The food itself was good, with the pork being my favorite of the meats. My boyfriend thought their mac and cheese was a little too salty; I thought it was fine. I didn't care too much for their potato salad; he thought it was good. Overall, good filling BBQ. We chatted with Archie for a few minutes too and he was nothing but welcoming and amicable. If you're in this area and want a change from the usual fast food, try Archie's BBQ. If you're brave enough, go for the Mountain Man Challenge.

Good to the bone! Went there last night after a day of swimming around in the lake. Got a full rack and a half pound brisket to share wirh my husband. Chose bakedbean and potato sald to go with the meat. Gooood eats. The ribs were juicy but not fatty. The BBQ sauce had the right blend of sweet and tangy. The baked bean is the best ever. It had sausage and onion in it. Almost licked the container. Potato salad was good too, but nothing spectacular. The corn bread was moist and buttery, it should be considered as cake. I ate it as dessert. Would do it again.

I was teetering between two or three stars, but what knocks it down to two is the price. Pulled pork was good, cornbread was good, brisket was meh, and the sides lacked any real flavor (green beans were "hospital quality" per my dad - a green bean fan. You'd think for a place that specializes in meat they could boil the beans with a ham hock or something). Anyway, any of this would be standard, acceptable faire at a BBQ joint, but the grand total came to over $90 (three entrees, three sides, and three drinks). Was it good? Yes. Was it worth THAT price tag? Absolutely not.

I eat here every year on my vacation to DCL. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I love the smoked boneless pieces of chicken in buffalo sauce (called boneless wings, but that name is probably misleading since boneless wings are usually breaded and fried.) The ribs here are a good texture and everyone likes them but me - I'm just not a fan of the sauce. I wished they offered different sauces ala Mission. The guy who I think is the owner seems like such a nice guy, by the way. I (jokingly) complained that there was only one size of takeout cup, and he gave me my drink on the house. Bigger cups would still be appreciated!

Really nice design of this place. I love the imitation log chairs and tables. They have a decent menu and we choose a meal to split which turned out being enough to have leftovers. we ordered the sampler platter for $25 and it came with 4 ribs, pulled pork, brisket, cornbread and a side. We got the baked beans as well as the mac n cheese. i loved the cornbread most. It was soooo sweet and moist its some of the best I've ever had. The pulled pork was my favorite and the ribs were my least favorite. The BBQ sauce is made in house but it didn't leave much of a after taste in your mouth. I would have preferred a thicker hickory style BBQ sauce. This one had little sweetness and too vinegary. The beans were good but we had to add spicy bbq to make them a lot tastier. the mack n cheese was ok too nothing special. I would give 5 stars for the corn bread. 4 for the pulled pork and brisket and 3 for the ribs. The sauce is a 2 though, sorry to say. The taste leaves your mouth as soon as it enters it.. The staff was very friendly though and i like the fact they have one of those food challenges called the mountain man. a full slab of ribs, half a roasted chicken, 4 pieces of cornbread, pulled pork sandwich, a hot side, a cold side and a 16oz drink. The entire meal comes on a serving platter like the kind they put sandwich rings on. It's HUGE!!!

First time visit on our trip to Deep Creek. We were welcomed right away by a girl who presented us with menus and told us how to do our ordering. We had a party of 6 and getting in and finding a table on a Thursday night was no problem at all at 6:30. I had the sampler platter which consisted of ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. I had to try them both to get a feel of what the offerings are... I highly recommend the ribs. I did see a bunch of people ordering the challenge and splitting it. I guess to get a taste of everything and not leave too stuffed that would be the way to go. We will definitely be back. Super fast service. Great staff. A definite hit while in the area.

We found this place during a trip to Wisp after our rental agency gave us a flyer with local businesses that offer discounts to renters. This is classic barbecue! We ended up coming twice over the weekend because it was so good. Between all of us, we tried every meat they offer, and everything was delicious. The habenero sauce is my favorite (they make it in house), but I used it more to add heat to the mac and cheese because their meat doesn't need it! The staff was welcoming to us and we're happy to explain how everything was made, especially after we told them we were from out of town. I wish we had someplace like this closer to home!!

We stopped by Archie's on the way out of Deep Creek. To be honest, we were somewhat apprehensive due to some of the more negative reviews we read on the way there, however, the idea of bbq sounded too tempting to resist. I am very glad we gave this place a chance. The staff is uber friendly and all too happy to explain how things work. The space seemed open and very clean with casual, "lodgy" decor. Keep in mind that this is a quick-serve restaurant, but there is a server who will run your food to you when it comes up at the counter. All-in-all, we were pretty impressed. Pulled pork was sweet and not overly saucy which is how I like it. The ribs and brisket was extremely moist and tender. Minus one star because the food wasn't warm enough to my liking and the mac and cheese needed a bit more seasoning but other than that, we certainly did not regret this impromptu stop.

Synopsis: cornbread sliders are great, ribs are tender, brisket is brisket, and avoid the slaw. Surprised to drive past this place on the way to Oakland. BBQ...in western Maryland...does not compute. But it beat a franchise, and the yelp reviews were good, so we gave it a go. We got to see into the food prep area while we placed our order and everything looked clean. Service was ffffffast. Two in our party got the sampler. Lots of food, great for two. Ribs are very tender -melt off bones- though a little under seasoned. There is sweet classic BBQ sauce at the table, but I preferred the spicy sauce (smoky, not really hot) that they keep by the napkins. The cornbread is moist, not sweet, but also not hot out of the oven. My wife and I had a special: cornbread sliders. We got chicken and pork. They were favorite part of the meal. Liked the chicken but the pork a tad more. I recommend this place. Good food, good price, good atmosphere.

We are very happy for the catering service and our guest are impressed by their ribs/brisket. Spoiling alert: Archies is developing a new sauce, beside their award winning BBQ and spicy. It is a habanero spicy sauce with lots of apricots flavor. It is surprisingly under-spicy.

We ate at Archie's earlier this week. I tried the half chicken dinner and my spouse had the full rack of ribs. The BBQ sauce was very tasty. We tried the mac and cheese and baked beans. Both were pretty good - not as good as homemade but good. I would recommend this place to anyone looks for good bbq.

I said to my husband, " Archie's - 4 stars?" His reply (with a mouthful of delicious BBQ) was, "ABSOLUTELY - if not 5!" Well, there you go folks. Marriage is all about compromise, so let's call it 4.5 stars for Archie's! It is really nice to encounter a non-pizza, non-chain spot while in the DCL area, and Archie's will satisfy any carnivore and/or BBQ connoisseur. It sure made us happy, and we love BBQ. Love the friendly service at the counter/cashier, and they bring your food to you at your table, which is made up in a very log cabin-like atmosphere with big ol' picnic-style tables, perfect for passing your delicious BBQ dishes around (or don't share at all). We definitely ordered way too much food, but the portions were large and the prices were fair. Collection of hot sauces and BBQ sauces met my needs, spice-wise and flavor customization-wise. Meat isn't over-seasoned and served without sauce so you can do the dousing yourself. Our sampler platter contained 4 juicy, meaty, fall-off-the-bone ribs, pulled pork (my favorite), brisket (the weakest link in a stellar lineup), cornbread (a total superstar in the cornbreads of the world), and two sides. We chose the mac-and-cheese (how I really rate a BBQ place) and the baked beans. Hubby loved the baked beans (that's his jam) - they had little chunks of hot dog mixed in with the beans! I enjoyed the mac, and doused it in a pool of Frank's Red Hot (that's my jam). Service, as mentioned, was quick and friendly. Food was delicious. Bathrooms were clean. Seating and parking were ample. Next time we're in the area, Archie's is definitely on the docket for a repeat visit. Maybe we;ll even try the HUNGRY MAN challenge...haha.

What a great choice! It was our first time visiting Deep Creek Lake. As we drove into town on Garrett Highway/219 we couldn't miss the well lit sign RIBS. We ordered a sampler plate, pulled pork sandwich, baked beans and the smoked turkey salad. The brisket, ribs, smoked turkey, baked beans and cornbread were our favorites! I was concerned about ordering the smoked turkey and thought I'd compromise on taste while trying to eat a little healthier. So, I was offered by the very nice staff member, half smoked turkey and half pulled pork. The smoked turkey was tender, juicy and had that smoked taste! So good! The cornbread taste like sweet-but-not-too-sweet corn cake. I think the pulled pork would be more to MY liking if it were more strips of meat and less "mushy". Don't get me wrong, it still taste good but I just prefer a different texture of the meat. Lastly, everyone, everyone was so nice!

So you walk up to this place and it screams authentic bbq. The old lumber look of the building and the giant pig outside just make the place. As soon as you open the front door the smells of there awesome homemade bbq sauce hits you right in the face and instantly makes you hungry. You look up and see a huge sign with all the menu items. They have everything you would expect and more from, ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, and many others plus tons of sides including my favorite the baked sweet potato with butter and brown sugar. Love it. Friendly staff. Great location not far from the lake. I love this place.

Staff is excellent - so friendly and helpful. Nice change from metro area. Food is very good although I prefer thick sliced brisket rather than thin sliced. You get more flavor from thick sliced brisket. Mac and cheese not great but the baked beans are excellent and meaty. Coleslaw good too - homemade horseradish is excellent. Decor is really sparse in a country minimalist sort of way. One big open room with tables but it works considering a very socialized clientele as compared to an urban culture.

Deep Creek Lake area lacks a good selection of restaurants, unless you like pizza, then there are about three choices. We came here based on YELP reviews. Service was quick. Order at the counter, and they didn't even have a "tip" line on the charge slip. Food was served up in a few minutes. I had the beef brisket, about 2 out of 5*. A good portion, but it was rather dry (picture a bit out of focus) and as others point out, no real "bark" and smoke ring. Wife had the half rack and she was well pleased with it. I sampled it and it came in about 4* in my view. Offered one way, having a rub and sweet BBQ sauce. Cole slaw was crunchy, and green beans were the usual canned cooked a long time with some slight seasoning. This was OK, but we've experienced better BBQ

I was really looking forward to eating here, as I researched the restaurants in the deep creek area. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. The only positive comments are that the customer service was excellent and the restaurant was clean. Too bad the food was awful. We ordered a rib platter, a half slab, pulled chicken sandwich, mac cheese, baked beans, cole slaw and 3 drinks....the bill was $70 and it all came up almost immediately (3 mins max). I have waited longer for McDonalds and paid much less.....I knew that was a bad sign. The food was lukewarm and did not taste like any bbq we have ever had. Good thing we just left the slopes, we were starving. We ate enough to take the edge off and the rest went in the trash. Don't go unless you want to waste your money.

This place was incredible. The food is some of the best bbq that I've ever had. The staff is really friendly and helpful with you picking what you want. We ordered the meat sampler which consisted of ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. The pulled pork was amazing. Just the right amount of sweet with great flavor. The ribs were tender and had a great sauce. The brisket was pretty good but could possible be a bit more tender. The food came with a side and some cornbread. We got the mac and cheese which was really good. The cornbread was great too, sweet and pretty moist. Good range of sauces, I hear the jalapeño was the best. This was a really good option, about 5 minutes from the mountain. Good portion sizes for the money and the food is delicious. Definitely check this place out either on your way to the mountain or on the way home. You'll be glad you did.

Archie's was the last stop in Deep Creek before heading home...and it did not disappoint! Order at the counter, and enjoy your last few minutes of hunger before heaping mound of grilled mammal slathered in deliciousness is served at your table. Offerings are fairly standard- sandwiches, wraps, wings, half-chickens, ribs, and piles of pork, brisket, etc. served in various sampler combinations. The two older boys ordered boneless chicken wings (much more than they could eat),I split a rib/brisket/pork sampler with boy#3 (much much more than we could eat), and my wife sensibly ordered a pork wrap. Cornbread, slaw, potato salad are the kinds of sides you are going to be offered. Food was just awesome. BBQ ribs were fall-off-the-bone perfect, brisket and bbq pork were spot-on as well. Kids liked the buffalo chicken wings; wife liked her wrap. Everyone was happy, happy, happy...to quote Phil, who would love this place! Décor is what you'd expect in a BBQ joint...rustic, nice picnic tables, etc. Clean. Counter service was really friendly. Check, check, check. The thing that made us laugh most was the Mountain Man challenge. I can't remember all the details, but for $50, if you can consume a half chicken, full plate of ribs, 4 corn breads, a 16 oz. drink, one sandwich, a hot and a cold side, and possibly a few other items- in under a hour, with no bathroom break- you eat free. Something like 297 have tried it; 12 have succeeded. You lose, you pay. The hall of fame- and gastric shame- is posted in the vestibule as you enter. Aah, America. Land of BBQ and plenty. We really enjoyed this last stop, and it kept the family satiated...in gastric paralization...for the duration of the ride back to Lancaster. No cries of "I'm hun-gry" from the back of the van...it was an experience that stayed with us for hours! Will surely be back next visit!

Went here while vacationing at deep creek lake because the local microbrew place was about an hour wait. Was Friday night and place was never more than half full but several streams of people through the door. Ended up going what I always do at BBQ joints a platter containing a little of every meat and a side. Enough to split with another person the 1/2 rack of ribs on the plate were good but a little too red for my taste. I know there should be some pink seat but these looked under cooked. Fall off the bone good though and not too much fat to fight. Pulled pork was excellent and brisket was really good too. There was counter order service and the food literally was brought in less than 5 minutes which makes me think how long it was sitting in the back. Of course it's not cooked to order but it was eerily quick. The bake beans were interesting as they had bits of hot dog cut up in them, and the mac n cheese was sub par. Plenty of extra BBQ sauce available which is awesome but I didn't even find the hot house blend that spicy. Cornbread was...meh. I got a look at the salad and as always in BBQ place you should shy away from it as it wasn't much to look at. If I could give you some advice Id say, "Just the Meat!"

my husband and I thought the food was just terrible. We love barbecue, and while I wouldn't expect it to be the greatest barbecue we have ever had- this was just over priced and not good. We spent $30 on what I would consider to be $15 worth of fast food. The sides are listed on the menu as 'homemade' but they certainly didn't taste that way. We pass through this way often and will not be back. On the positive side, the server was very friendly and the restaurant was clean.

Brisket is a must have. Deep Creek had several restaurants we enjoyed; however, this was our favorite. Not really a BBQ gal, until I found BBQ heaven at Archie's. Hubby got the sampler, good quality food, and had enough for several more meals. Daughter got the pull pork sandwich with bake beans - she too was tickled and unable to finish her sandwich. She did say that she did say the bake beans were a tad too strong with the BBQ sauce. And me again, still think about that brisket.

Just so-so. Ribs were tender, but didn't have a strong smokey taste. Baked beans tasted dressed up off the shelf, as did green beans. Pleasant service and ambience was fine. Okay beer selection, but only bottled. (Was it my imagination, or was that a drug transaction that went on in the dining room?) We won't be back.

Stopped in for dinner at 7:30pm on a Friday night.. no crowd. The restaurant itself is very clean and friendly. Order your food at the counter and a server will bring the food to your table. We had a group of 10, one of whom is a BBQ aficionado who participates in competition, so we felt qualified to judge. :) Overall, the food was great.. the Sampler Platter ($19.99) consists of 1/2 rack of ribs, large portion of pulled pork, brisket and one side - tonight was their baked beans, plus a square of corn bread. I thought the best was the homemade baked beans, ladened with a generous portion of their pulled pork mixed in. Honestly, I could have just had that for my meal. The pulled pork was tender, juicy and flavored just right with their sweet and tangy sauce. The brisket was cooked perfectly, and just a touch of their table sauce added to the smoke taste. The corn bread was sweet and moist. I have to say my least favorite was their "award winning" ribs. The sauce was tasty and the meat was tender, but I personally felt they were somewhat undercooked. I understand the perfect rib has the "ring" of pink, but this was a little too pink for my liking. Buckets of beer available for $14. Overall, a very good dinner topped off by the manager letting our group ring the dinner bell. :)

The family checked this place out in the late winter. The pulled pork was just good but when you added their sweet tomato based sauce it took on a sweet smoky taste. (Probably my preference.) The sides were very good and a pleasant surprise. The restaurant was simple but very clean and an interesting local type decor. It is a resort area winter and summer with beautiful western Maryland mountains. Prices were reasonable and the wife and I tried the sampler so we had it all. Nothing bad and, and a lot good about this place. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the visit, the food, as well as the food and atmosphere.

After having pizza earlier in the day and really only seeing so so reviews with other establishments in the area I decided to hit this place up as it had a lot of positive reviews. I wasn't really disappointed and it was a nice break from only seeing pizza in pretty much every other establishment around this area. Let me start by when you first walk in a very nice and friendly greeter is there to tell you the basics and how to order. Menu is not huge and that's just fine! Ordered a rack of baby back ribs, pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, and a hot dog with pulled pork on top. The baby back ribs, were tender, absolutely falling off the bone and had a good taste to them. I think for me a bit more aggressive seasoning would've been nice but you do have bbq sauce on the side, unfortunately the bbq sauce is not very good. Essentially tastes like store bought so that was a disappointment. The pulled pork was good to. I was impressed at how finely chopped it was, I mean it was very well pulled no chunks of pork to be found which me personally I don't mind a hidden chunk of pork in my sandwich every once in a while as long as it's not plain old grizzle & fat. Again a good bbq sauce would've finished the sandwich off well but... The hot dog was pretty well done. It had a nice smoky flavour to it and the pulled pork was a nice addition to the sloppy mess of a dog. While stuffing my face with all this pork I also nibbled on the corn bread. The corn bread was very moist in fact a bit too moist for me and thus I can only say that it was a very well done one for me. As long as it comes with the sides get it if you must have your fix but if not skip it. Finally the mac and cheese was so so, I'd skip it and just stick with your caveman or cavewoman instincts and go for the meat. Overall, a great break from the typical stuff you find around the area and yes a must try. You won't be disappointed. Buen Provecho!

I have never had barbecue, ribs or brisket and been so underwhelmed. I spent almost thirty dollars for two meals that left us feeling sick and hosed. The barbecue that was basically soup because there was so much ketchup in it. The ribs had a manure flavor to them. The brisket was nothing but cheap deli meat, like dry roast beef. The meat tasted spoiled. The sign reads "award winning" but there is no award in the restaurant.

The decor and customer service was the BEST part of this establishment. Which is why I gave 2 stars. About the food ummmm not so satisfied. I ordered the smoked half ribs half chicken Mac n cheese and pulled pork. I have never had BBQ so tasteless in my life. I doused it with sauce that's the only way I could eat it. I bought enough food to last a few days while staying at the near by resort but was done with Archie's after a few bites. Tried to make it up with the sides, even those were bland. Overall not the best food spot for BBQ but you get treated right and prices are fair.

Archie's is the best BBQ I have ever eaten in my life. I am not exaggerating whatsoever. I have eaten the ribs, (pink smoke ring...fall off of the bone) beef brisket (same pink smoke ring, cut thin and extremely tender), and pulled pork and chicken. All meats are prepared perfectly and are juicy and delicious. Also, the almosted mashed potato salad is my favorite and I am not a fan of potato salads. The corn bread is not course, but is light and cake like. I have not had anything at Archie's I have not enjoyed. The smell entering the restaurant is enticing and my Dad has mentioned Archie's as, "A religious experience!" In fact, my fiancé are having Archie's at our destination wedding. We love it and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

The sh*t. Go here, damn you. Portions are for families and the brisket, pulled pork and chicken can rival the best of em. Customer service is top notch. Like being at a family reunion with folks you don't fight with every Thanksgiving.

This is a great, great barbecue joint in McHenry. It's family-run and their passion for their restaurant shows. I was a little apprehensive when we went in at first, because it was so *clean*. That's generally a bad sign in a BBQ joint. I expect a little damp smokiness and some sticky tables. Nope, not at Archie's. I got the sampler platter, which could also be described as "two animals, three ways". Ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, plus some beans and cornbread. It was great; the ribs in particular stood out. My wife was also quite happy with her ribs. The kids got pulled chicken sandwiches, which were quite large. So I had to help finish them. Which technically brought the "animals consumed" total to three. The only downside to the place is that the self-serve soda machine is set too high for the kids to reach, so I had to put down the ribs and help. Sigh.

My wife and I felt compelled to make our first Yelp review on this establishment because the food was so awful. The gentlemen who appeared to be the owner sat behind the register and took orders. Questions about the menu received quick one word answers. We felt as though we were a nuisance to him. The ribs seemed boiled, watery, and tasteless (real ribs are not boiled). My wife got the pulled chicken wrap. The meat was watery and had the consistency of tuna fish. She only took a few bites. We had a large party. None of the 4 kids would eat the Mac and cheese, although my 5 year old liked the side salad. The boneless wings are not wing meat at all, but slices of chicken breast tossed is sauce. To say the least they got trashed also. Everyone liked the sweet cornbread. We actually bought more to go because we were all still hungry. It's not uncommon to have one person in a group not like their food, but all 8 of us were disappointed. We were stunned after all the good reviews this place received.

We ate here yesterday, 6/27/2013, and the food was good. Had a sampler, an order of boneless buffalo-sauced chicken strips, cornbread, smoked macaroni and cheese and baked beans sides. Prices are very reasonable, the staff pleasant and friendly, the food was delicious and the place was very clean. The smell of the smoker as you walk up to the front door was fresh and not overwhelming. I don't know why people get so down on a place because it's "not the best BBQ I've ever eaten" -- this place's BBQ is above average and as long as it's consistently good, we would definitely eat here again if we come back to the area, and recommend it to others. Don't come expecting the best BBQ you've ever eaten. Come expecting good and solid BBQ that's fairly priced and served in a clean and pleasant establishment. This alone sets Archie's above many other places, and that's what makes it worth it.

Nice, clean bbq place. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The menu isn't huge, but plenty to order from. The plates, sandwiches and sides are all BIG. The meats are tender and the sides are hot!

I'm picky about my BBQ and my fiancée is even pickier. He compares every BBQ place to his favorite so I knew when we came out to the Deep Creek area for his birthday and we found a BBQ place he'd probably do the same. But, he really didn't! He got the sandwich that had a pound of meat on it and while I was slightly disgusted, he loved it. I was super pleased with Archie's because it's rare that a BBQ place has my favorite, pulled chicken, which they did. All the sides and especially the cornbread are great, too. PS. I got heartburn just looking at their food eating competition...

I am from the South and as far as I am concerned this place is pretty good. Not only is the food good, the portions are ample, but the price is right as well. Not to mention they have good sweet tea. I would highly recommend getting the baked beans and slaw as your sides. The baked beans are infused with pork in them and the cole slaw is sweet and excellent. The thing that sets Archie's apart from the rest is their excellent staff who are always there the great you after a long day on the slopes.

i have never put better brisket in my mouth!!! I did not even put any sauce on it as i savoured the flavor as cooked - the pulled pork was also perfect as prepared - the ribs were fine, but not the stellar performer of the brisket and pulled pork in my opinion - two of us shared the sampler and had a beer each, $32 plus tip, and felt it was well worth it - if i am ever up that way again i will go get some brisket and pulled prok!!!

Good, but not great. Place seemed fairly sterile for a BBQ joint. Is more of a take-out type of place than an eat-in. Food was ok, and the portions were pretty generous, price was reasonable, but I've had better.

Our FAVORITE BBQ, hands down! My fiance and I are somewhat BBQ foodies - we probably eat more BBQ than anything else, and we intentionally seek out BBQ restaurants/carts/roadside stands in every city we travel too. That is how we ended up dining at Archie's a few years back while we were hiking in Maryland. Archie's is everything a BBQ place should be. It has that "down home" feeling the moment you walk in the door. The decor is very "texas", which feels right. And there is always someone waiting there to greet you even though its a seat-yourself establishment. They will explain the menu to you, and explain the cooking process they use if you are so inclined to hear about it. And the place is SUPER clean... possibly the cleanest BBQ place I've ever seen. Our first visit we met who we've been calling "the owner" (should have learned his name by now, but we're bad repeat customers). Whoever he is, he is there every time we dine and is SO friendly it makes the entire experience wonderful. He even let me order half of a mountain man challenge meal and charged half-price even though that is not a menu option. Great customer service is always a good start. As for the food... I don't even know where to begin. At this point we've literally tried EVERY menu item and we've loved ALL of it. The ribs are big, tender, moist, and cooked perfectly. I am not kidding. Every time we visit they are consistently delicious. In fact, they are so good that we've ordered a rack of ribs to take home with us and even brought a rack of ribs back to Pittsburgh for my father who is a BBQ lover. The pulled pork is moist and smoky. You could eat it without any BBQ sauce which I love. I hate when you order pulled pork and you HAVE to add sauce to it because its too dry. The brisket is juicy, moist, and cooked perfectly. Are we seeing a theme here? The potato salad is delicious as well. The potatoes are a little over-cooked going into the salad which turns the dressing into a nice thick mayo-based dressing. Its well seasoned and one of my favorite sides. The corn bread is phenomenal. Also moist, slightly sweet, and very very tasty. Its the perfect mix between savory cornbread and sweet cornbread, which is very difficult to do. The portions are very large, so take an appetite with you or take left overs home (if you can stop eating it!) We've been loyal Archie's customers for about 4 years now, and we will continue to make Archie's a dinner stop every time were in the area. We even went as far as to make a special trip JUST for Archie's BBQ from Pittsburgh to Maryland this past February. Its THAT GOOD!

We went there as a family and were not disappointed. The weather was mild so we decided to sit outside on the picnic tables. They were clean and weel stocked with condiments. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and my hubby ordered the ribs. Both were fantastic! The pulled pork was saucy and had a good smoky flavor. The ribs were meaty and messy. Just the way we like them. Service was good and friendly. Even though it was not table service, the waitress still came to check on us twice. Highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Archie's is, by far, my favorite barbeque! They even caterered our wedding. Debbie is the sweetest lady! Living in Pittsburgh, we would drive the 2.5 hours to Deep Creek just for Archie's! It's that good! My favorites are the ribs and pulled pork. My husband loves the potato salad and beef brisket. Their sauce is also amazing! Oh, and the cornbread is to die for! I don't normally eat cornbread because it's so dry, but Archie's cornbread is like dessert! Yumm!

We used Archie's for our casual wedding event and rehearsal dinner and they were fantastic. Debbie was super accommodating prior to the event, guided us in food selections and never once disappointed. The food was delivered to us the night of the rehearsal party and they provided everything we could need! The food was fantastic, some of the best I have ever had. Hands down best brisket ever. The service they provided for our wedding was incredible. 2 of Debbie's sons who also run the restaurant take care of setting up, serving, and then putting away all the left overs. They were sweet and courteous, you could see they loved what they do. The food was incredible. All our guests raved over the food. Not one negative comment. If you know about smoking meat, then you will understand when I say the smoke rings in the brisket and ribs and turkey breast was incredible, the taste amazing. These guys have perfected the process. We will always eat at Archie's whenever we visit Deep Creek and they will always be our number one recommendation for dining in Deep Creek.

Ordered take-out for a large group of people on Sunday. A few people got the Double Trouble, some people had sandwiches, and someone ordered the ribs. We also had a variety of sides. They said the food would be ready 15 minutes after placing the order and, sure enough, it was, which seemed really fast for a large order. Everyone really enjoyed their food, and it was very reasonably priced for the size of the servings. There are not very many restaurants near the Wisp ski area and Archie's is one of the better ones. I would recommend Archie's over the Mountain State Brewing Company, which in our experience had slow service and poor food.

We visited Archie's last week during Labor Day w/e and were very excited to get some good bbq. The place smelled great, atmosphere was also great as well was the entire staff. But it went downhill from there. All of the food had no flavor. My ribs tasted Ike they were boiled, the pulled pork was shredded like it came out of a crock pot (and tasted like it too) and the brisket although moderately moist and sliced way too thin had no taste either. Good bbq should have a smoke ring and you should be able to taste it. Maybe they ran out of wood that day but I can tell you I will not be going back.

Archies has great food and atmosphere at the lake. The beef brisket is a must have as well as their baked beans. They are more like a baked bean chili with brisket, pork, hot dog, onion etc chopped into the mix. It's a must stop if you are visiting the lake. The smoked turkey and sweet potato are phenomenal for the low cal diet.

Archie's catered our outdoor laid back state park wedding. We had a smoker on site, a full smoked pig, smoked BBQ chicken, rolls, smoked macaroni and cheese, fresh salad, baked beans, and smoked cornbread (approx. $18/person). We provided Archies water melons the day before and they cut and served them with cornbread prior to serving at the cocktail hour. Archies provided plates, napkins, and utensils (all heavy duty plastic ware), a banquet serving table, and tent. They were friendly, explaining the different parts of the pig for our guests. All left overs were nicely packaged and provided to us after the event (great for after party fare!). Archies was prompt in their responses to emails, willing to meet with us as needed, and reliable in their service. We would highly recommend if you are looking for GOOD wedding food (our guests went for seconds and thirds), a relaxed atmosphere, and reliable and friendly service!

Sweet Southern Style BBQ, which is my favorite. I like the fact that nearly everything is smoked (even the mac 'n cheese) so you get extra flavor in everything. The selection is great and they always surprise me with new items here and there. My favorite by far is the Brisket sandwich, I putt sauce on every bite. The brisket wrap is also another fav.

I'm a pretty big fan of this hidden gem. It's rare you can get good meat along with good sides ... and this joint has it all. Folks complaining that it's a take out joint need to either a) eat there or b) take it home and enjoy it!

Food is good and service is excellent, but WOW it's expensive for barbecue. $3 for three small pieces of cornbread. Kids' meals (hotdog, one side, and a small drink) are $8. Dinner for four here, with one soda, was only $3 cheaper than at a nearby very nice sit-down restaurant, and that meal included appetizers. We like the food, but I won't rush back.

Just so-so. Ribs were tender, but didn't have a strong smokey taste. Baked beans tasted dressed up off the shelf, as did green beans. Pleasant service and ambience was fine.

PS. I got heartburn just looking at their food eating competition...

i have never put better brisket in my mouth!!!

I'm a pretty big fan of this hidden gem. It's rare you can get good meat along with good sides ... and this joint has it all. Folks complaining that it's a take out joint need to either a) eat there or b) take it home and enjoy it!

Very moist baby back ribs with very little fat, great sauce with smoky flavor. Excellent baked beans, good standard fare coleslaw and potato salad. Tough to go wrong when ordering takeout with a very friendly and helpful staff..

It was ok. BBQ sauce was very sweet heavy brown sugar molasses taste. Probably won't go back.

We really like it. i always say, if you are in Deep Creek, you might as well give it a try. If you like it, it's a fun thing to look forward to when going back to the lake. I see some people complaining about the sauce but im not sure how that could ruin the whole experience. I personally think its awesome, BUT maybe it would be nice to have a few options, like carolina sauce, hot, etc. for people who dont care for that kind of sauce. Also, besides all the great pork and chicken, etc, be sure to get those sides and corn bread. Nice portions and staff too.

Okay beer selection, but only bottled. (Was it my imagination, or was that a drug transaction that went on in the dining room?) We won't be back.
