We had Eggplant parm and manicotti. The Fallston location is better. Eggplant did not taste the same as Fallston. Manager asked how our meal was and we told him. He shrugged his shoulders, told us the recipes were the same and walked away. Arrogant not worth the time to go therr.!

(03/30/2012) Pretty good local spot for what you would usually find in a take-out/delivery spot, but it's sit down and a step above. As you walk in, the entire place is filled with the aroma of sauteed garlic. There were large pasta portions being served all around us that looked pretty appetizing, full of fresh ingredients. The gratis country-style Italian bread had a nice resilient chew, crusty exterior, sour (in a good way); served with balsamic/olive oil dipping mix with a few scattered dried rosemary leaves. We started with the Arancini (deep-fried rice balls filled with ground beef, peas and mozzarella). They were golden, not exactly crisp on the outside, inside dense and chewy, rice grains a little al dente, savory, filling; served with a tart, garlicky marinara. The Bruschetta Napoletana was three 1/2-inch, toasted slices of the country-style Italian bread (toasted hard, difficult to cut) topped with diced hothouse tomatoes tossed in olive oil, a vampire-repelling amount of garlic, and some shreds of basil (somewhat bruised). The Mediterraneo Salad was a fairly plain bed of spring mix, handful of pine nuts, walnuts, one halved grape tomato, three kalamata olives, and smear of goat cheese; house dressing was an unbalanced overly tart balsamic vinaigrette. Ordered a New York style pizza that was fairly thin, had a crunchy bread dough like crust, also had a little chew; had sufficient amount of meat topping, meatballs were shaved thin (looked to be a frozen product). Place was packed when we walked in, it was like a teen/tween mecca; with their parents, in packs, waiting tables. Hope you don't really need to have a conversation, it was crazy noisy. Food was all right, prices reasonable.

This is a rare find, an excellent Italian restaurant tucked away in the strip mall. Great Italian wedding soup, pasta dishes, salad and crunchy bread, although I could do without the vinegar in the bread dip. Stick to just olive oil. They also serve whole wheat pasta which I really love even though one time I had it, it was a bit undercooked. The service I have to give mixed reviews. The Italian waiters are charming and attentive. The last time we went we had an American waiter who obviously did not like his job as he was surly and inattentive, and we found a worker cleaning the walls with cleaning spray at 7 in the evening- a bit unnerving. But these are minor complaints because the food is just so damn good. Unlike the horrendous Basta Pasta around the corner that serves Olive Garden food, this place is authentic!

I went to Il Basilico with two friends. Our dinner was delicious. We enjoyed every bite. I do agree about the bread in the brown bag. It seemed stale.

Bait and switch during restaurant week - no mention on restaurant week site menu that lunch is not available on weekends. Waiter attentive and apologetic.

Our favorite Italian restaurant for casual dining. There is nothing fancy or glamorous about the place (typical of a shopping mall restaurant) but who cares since the food is excellent and less than half the price of any restaurant in Little Italy.. There bread is fresh and crunchy on the outside. The Calamari is never overcooked the veal is always tender. The waiters are superb.

So My Hubby and I were out and about last night to REI. We have been there a few times over the last few weeks and kept seeing things NOW OPEn sign above this little place called Pasta Blitz. So we drove by and peered in and figured lets try it. The place is very cute. It reminds me a of a Pizzeria but with a bit more class. The decor is very nice and warm with a wonderful orange color and red accents. THey say they are brining their customers authentic Italian dishes just like the ones their mom used to prepare back in Naples, Italy with both the decor and authentic Italian cuisine. The website is very friendly and has a complete list of daily lunch specials (which there are at least 4 every day), their menu and much more. The food... They start you with bread and an olive oil/balsamic vinegar mix with seasoning We started with the MOZZARELLA STICKS 7) Served with a side of tomato sauce 5.95. They were the best I have ever had (not sure if they were but they tasted homemade) I had PENNE ALLA CARBORANA Penne pasta sauteed with olive oil, pancetta and egg yolk in a light cream wine sauce, finished with romano cheese & fresh blck pepper 10.95- It was yummy. The sauce was different from any carborana that I have ever had (not as think and some different tastes) but was very good. My Hubby had CHICKEN PARMIGIANA Tender chicken breast, lightybreaded & pain fried. Topped with melted mozzarella cheese. Served with spaghetti in our tomato sauce 10.95 It was HUGE! Everybody was very friendly and plenty of people check in on us. There were about 5 other tables while we were there but they set up 2 different tables for 9 and placed reserved markers on them. So I figure it gets good business. The place is also BYOB. They do take out like any regular pizza place- I noticed the take out menu said something about special catering and had different discounts for different size catering amounts from 8 ppl to 20 ppl (each number had a higher discount) I will be going back!!!!!

Seriously fantastic southern Italian that you would not normally expect from a chain in a strip mall. A well kept secret.

good food....not too crowded the nite we were there. waitress was decent...at least as good as (if not better) a place like Macaroni Grill.

Excellent reasonably priced food served by friendly, competent people. What more can you say? Oh, and BYOB which keeps it cheap. The owner Anna is a sweetie.

Never never never again will I step foot into this place. I walked in and it wasn't busy besides the people sitting at tables already eating their food. I ordered 2 slices of pepperoni pizza. I walked next store to give them some time to heat it up. When I came back there was a couple ordering and the guy at the register took their money and after that wiped the counter down with a rag. The same guy looked at me and grabbed 2 slices of cheese pizza asked the guys in the back to hand him some pepperonis. He starts to put them on the cheese pizza NEVER washing his hands. There was another guy at the register so I walked up and told him what I was waiting on. He also grabbed 2 slices of cheese and told the guy in the back to hand him pepperonis and did the same thing then put them in a box and gave it to me. I said I would like it heated up in the oven please. He said "It's hot u take" I said no I want it heated up. He proceeds to yell at me telling me its hot u take now u take now. So I started to yell and tell him how I didn't like that fact that him and the other guy were handling money and wiping off counters then touching the food without washing their hands. He starts going "Shhhhhh Shut your mouth". I told him to give me my money back and he did but through it at me. After that I was shaking so bad because I wanted to reach across the counter and yank off his bad hair piece but I started praying so I wouldn't be arrested. This place gets 4 thumbs down and 1 middle finger up!!!!

The bread is good. Cute that they bring it in bags. I guess this means it is a popular item. The food is okay/good. GIven the limited local Italian family owned restaurants I suppose this is okay/good. I use have a rule to help me determine good Italian restaurants. I order Lasagna, other items are usually better, but this item usually tells me if the food is fresh and/or they know how to prepare it. This was a slight disappointment to me. Not sure what is was exactly, but it was not great- even when they recommended it to me. My sons food was good as was my wife's. The service was not great. I hope our waitress was new, because she did not know much. our plates kept piling up and no one wanted to take them away. Even when we finished our appetizers (and the plates were empty) they brought the entrees and would not take away the appetizer plates even when we piled them up on the edge of the table. It was humorous. While we were there we saw tons of people coming in to do take out. I think this must be what they are good at, because the service was not great. Even the owner came by, looked at our bottle of wine, but never spoke with us or asked us how our meal was, or talked with us. All he wanted to do was look at our wine. We'll try you again, but we will try take out next time. Strike 1.

Nice restaurant tucked into a strip mall with a good variety of authentic and updated dishes. Good emphasis on seafood dishes. Salads are great, with a perfect balsamic vinaigrette. My fettucine was fresh and light. Yum!

Excellent Italian fare! Caprese style pizza and gnocchi is tasty. BYOB. Great service and good crowd (I don't like empty restaurants). I do think it is a bit on the pricey side - entrees between $11 and $25.

Great place for Pasta. BYOB from the liquor store two doors down. You will hear Italian being spoken in the open kitchen if you sit near the back. I will go back there often.

Stopped in for a quick lunch here today and I was pleasantly pleased. We were greeted when we walked in and and told to sit anywhere we liked. We ordered the lunch special with the chicken and broccoli and a slice of cheese pizza. They brought the pizza just a few moments later and we shared that while waiting for our pasta. The pasta was cooked perfect and was very creamy. The server was very polite and kind. I will definitely stop by this spot again to try something different.

They are so nice here I ordered the gnocchi Toscano and asked them to add sun dried tomatoes and shrimp and they did it. Lindsay was great and got our order in fast because Dylan was starving and close to melting down. Hard day of school and football with only pizza for lunch

Food is amazing! Been coming here for a few years now every now and then. Table service could be better but overall it's hard not to love this family oriented business. Liquor store is only 50 ft away so BYOB is never particularly an issue.

Fantastic food, and wonderful staff. We had the garlic cheese bread and calamari appetizers. Both were amazing, the breading on the calamari was just right. Everything on the menu looked so good it was hard to choose! We will certainly be coming back!

We went for the restaurant week meal of a 7 fishes meal. The first course had a tuna tartare which was tasty along with a slice of another fish that was delicious. We had another dish with mussels which was very good. For another dish, shrimp which everyone liked they substituted scallops for me since I am allergic to shrimp. The breads were excellent and all the pasta is made at the restaurant. The waiter was very attentive and had a good personality. I believe it used to be called Basta Pasta, but they changed the name because they thought it was too generic. Also a plus is that is BYOB. If I could choose it, I would put 3.5 stars.

Best pizza in the area!! I've been trying to find a great gourmet pizza place and this cozy casual spot has it all. Their plain cheese is what I've been missing from New York but they also have white veggie, buffalo chicken, and other delicious different options. Pasta is decent but seriously go for the pizza- you can order a whole or try several single slices of the ones they have on display!

Update: While I stand by my original review, I will commend their owner Anna for contacting me and asking for another chance to be tasted. I respect that commitment to their product and service. I've upped my review from 2 stars to 3. I think that good customer service should count for something. Ordered 2 slices of pizza. They just really weren't that good. Maybe I'm spoiled because I grew up on New Haven and New York pizzas. But this had mediocre flavor and too think of a crust for my liking.

We stopped in here after originally heading for the sushi spot next door; the Love of My Life decided that Italian would be a better bet. The place is huge, a lot bigger than its location in a strip mall would indicate. We were seated right away and our waitress, Sara, was very helpful with giving us time to order. So, I decided on spaghetti alla carbonara while the boyfriend decided on rigatoni alla Siciliana (basically, rigatoni with black olives and baby eggplant). The meal started out with bread and an olive oil/vinegar dipping sauce. The bread was a bit too hard for the boyfriend, but I loved it. We would have maybe liked a bit more vinegar in the dressing, but it wasn't bad at all as it was. My carbonara was rich, fattening, creamy and intensely satisfying. Lots of pancetta bits; they sure didn't skimp on the meat portion. The rigatoni dish was tasty, but had a bit too much tomato sauce for my boyfriend's liking; still, overall it was delish. We were too full to have dessert, which is always a good sign. The bill came to about 25 dollars, with drinks; pretty reasonable, considering the size of the portions (I can't even imagine what the dinner portions are like here - probably the size of a small island). Generously sized, it was more than enough for a good lunch and we probably could have taken some home if we'd really wanted to. The service was really good; Sara worked hard and earned her money, for sure. We'd come back.

We made reservations for 7 people on a Saturday night, and only ended up with 4 people. It was not a problem for them. While we were there, the dining room filled up, then emptied out about half way, and then filled up again. Our stay there was at least 90 minutes. This is a BYOB restaurant, and we brought 4 bottles of wine (OK, we only drank 2 1/2..) The bus boy was extremely friendly and offered to open our wine (one had a cork). He gave us our water promptly. A while later, he asked if we had gotten our bread - we said no, but he never returned with any. It seemed like a half hour before we were waited on. (In fact, we had to ask to be waited on.) Ultimately, our order taking went fine. And we got our bread and olive oil-balsamic vinegar dip - the bread has an awesome crunchy crust, and is dense and delicious. Two of us had the Anna's Veggie Lasagna. It was not what I expected, but it was very tasty, green with spinach. One had the gnocchi - can't say what preparation, but the taste of it I had was good. One had the Rigatoni "al frutti del mare" - bits of seafood mixed in to the marinara sauce. There were a couple of scallops and shrimp in that dish, but mostly chopped clams. None of us had any complaints about our meals. Their desserts (at least what we had: tiramisu and the chocolate tartufo) were excellent. Our bill came to a bit over $120, including the meals, salads, and desserts. When the dining room is full, it can be very noisy - I wish they had a little more sound insulation. On both of my visits, the staff seemed friendly, some even convivial. The food is good, if a bit pricey. My only complaint that night was that our meal order was neglected until we grabbed a waiter cleaning another table. They did not charge a corking or glass fee for the wine. It's a nice casual place to go, for food that I feel is a good bit better than ordinary,

This place is called something else now, but it's essentially the same place. Got gnocchi with tomatoes and it was good. Nothing spectacular, but it hit the spot and it was yummy. The tiramisu I got was good too, but again nothing worth writing home about. Between myself and Pat we spent around $40, which is surprisingly expensive for a place that's in a strip mall. Timonium is loaded with Italian places, so I think you can do much better. But, it's worth a shot if you've never been here.

I went to Pasta Blitz for lunch today. (First time.) I wasn't sure what to get (foccacia vs a cheese steak sub... I asked the girl at the cash register and she said either one was good... but she raved about the cheese steak so I went with that.) The sub tasted good, but was kind of small for the price I paid. Mostly bread and lettuce, very light on the meat. Overall, I would've given it 3 stars based on the sub, but . . . The FRENCH FRIES were a completely diffent story. Out of the 5 people at our table, 4 of us got fries. Only one of us could eat them, however, because they were simply AWFUL. Bone dry and hard as rocks, obviously reheated and reheated and reheated... I swear they tasted like old fries that they had left over from yesterday. They were so bad that most of our lunch conversation was about how utterly disgusting the fries were. This is the reason for the 1 star. With so many other food choices in the area, I don't think I'll be going back there again.

The food and ambiance gets a high rating from me. Unlike other Pasta Blitz locations this place pulls itself off than more than just a walk in joint. There is great waiter service, lots of seating, and really sets the mood a restaurant should. Prices are slightly steep, but for the serving sizes well worth it. My friend got a huge calzone, It was the size of a football. I got the Gamberi pasta. GIANT Gulf shrimp, lots and lots of amazing tasting pasta with a white wine sauce. I was full on this dish alone plus the free bread with olive oil they give you. (which they refill) The menu is vast, lots to choose from, something for everyone. This is a great place for the family, a date, or friends. I am coming back without a doubt and soon. Finally good Italian food near my home.

Came to Pasta Blitz with the family for dinner on a Sunday evening around 6PM. I ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs and it was good, but I wasn't completely WOWED by it either. I have definitely had better elsewhere. What really turned me off from this place and probably sealed the deal for me never going back was the customer service and treatment we received when we were there. It was about mid 50 degrees outside and windy and they had the door to the restaurant propped open. We started getting cold sitting in there, and asked if front door could be closed. They told us it was open because the people (I am assuming the employees and cooks) in the back were roasting because it was so hot. So, the waitress closed the door to where it was slightly propped open which made it more bearable and we weren't sitting there with our teeth chattering. Fair enough! Well, eventually the door was propped all the way back open by someone else working there and it began to get cold again where we were sitting. So, then we had to ask again to close the door since the cold air was blowing right in on us. Long story short we spent most of the evening here freezing because the employees there were hot. That's not my problem, and they could open up a door in the back or get a fan. I guess what most people like about this place is the BYOB aspect it has, which we definitely did. Unfortunately, I was almost about to order a hot chocolate to stay warm. I think there are better Italian restaurants out there in the Baltimore area to go to.

I was in the area for work around lunchtime, and since it was close by I thought I'd give this place a try. First of all, I was surprised by how nice it is inside, considering that it's wedged into a strip mall in a section of town that's not exactly known to be aesthetically pleasing. But the interior is very clean, colorful, nicely decorated, with lots of tables that are spaced out very well. Thumbs up for that! I got there before the lunch rush hit, so there was only one other occupied table in the place, and I was told to seat myself. A server was with me very quickly, brought my drink and took my order with little wait, and the food came out pretty fast as well. Of course, I only ordered a panini and fries, so it didn't take THAT long to fix, and with no other people in the place, I would have been really disappointed if it HAD taken long. But....moving on. The staff were friendly, and there was an older gentleman who came in while I was there who is apparently a regular, and it was kind of enjoyable listening to him cut up with the employees. So with the quick service, nice interior, and friendly staff, why only 3 stars you ask? Well......... The food itself was a bit on the bland side. I ordered a caprese panini, because I do LOVE me some fresh mozzarella! But typically, caprese is served with a balsamic dressing......this really had almost no flavor at all. It had a pesto spread that was also flavorless, and I'm pretty sure they just splashed a little olive oil on the sandwich and thought that would pass for balsamic......it didn't. The fries were OK, but it's kind of hard to screw up fried potatoes (although some places have managed to do it). The second reason I only gave them three stars was that when it was time for me to get the check, it seemed as if service stopped. Which seemed odd.....you'd think they'd WANT to clear the table for another guest, wouldn't you? But I placed my credit card on the table, and the host walked past at least 3 times without acknowledging it. The server then came by (with my card laying on the table) and said "I'll be right back with your check". Before I could say "Please just go ahead and take my card now", he had disappeared. Now......this STILL wouldn't have been that bad, but when he came back with the check, and with my card lying on the table for several minutes, you'd think that he would know that I was ready to go....but instead, he drops the check on the table and bolts away, saying "I'll be back for that when you're ready." EXCUSE ME??????? What about my credit card lying on the table gives you the impression that I'm NOT ready NOW? It took several more minutes before he came back to get my card, and I barely made it to my afternoon meeting on time. Word of advice to anyone in the restaurant industry: When the customer is ready to leave, this is your REAL moment of truth. There is nothing more frustrating than wanting to leave and having to wait for the server to take your payment. Pay attention to your customers and be attentive all the way through until they're out the door.

This is the worst dining experiance I've had in a looong time. First we purchased the all you can eat pasta for 2 groupon. When we got there I advised the waitress we wanted to know the specifics of the promotion so we could decide if we wanted to use the groupon or not. She handed us a peice of paper with very limited choices but never the less we decided go with the groupon deal. The waitress was delayed in coming over to the table to get our drink order. We were with a 4 year old child and although we noticed crayons and coloring pages she never offered. Then when we inquired she stated she would bring them over. One set was given out to a table with another child. 10 minutes later my husband got up to grab another set of crayons to find out the second basket was empty. 5 minutes later our waitress came over to tell us there wer no more crayons. Finally our food arrived. Our daughers food would not arrive for another 5 minutes. When her food came it was so hot she couldn't eat it. So she had to wait. When she was finally able to eat ... her comes the waitress with crayons and a coloring page. When the basket of crayons arrived there were at least 10 crayons in there. I'm wondering why our waitress could not ask for a few crayons out of the other basket. So now that my daugher can eat all she wants to do is color. So, one pasta dish down. My husband and I wanted to try another pasta dish for the all you can eat pasta for 2 groupon deal. When we placed our next order we were then informed "You can only order the same dish" Really, its pasta. It cost you next to nothing. If I was told this in the beginning I would have never used the Groupon deal for this meal. How much baked ziti can one eat. Over all bad experiance topped off by bad service. The deal misleading and the waitress did nothing to clarify making it even worse.

The food was alright. What really got to me is that the servers where so busy standing around and gossiping with each other, that they couldn't be bothered to bring out the food, or refill drinks. When I got up and interrupted them to ask for a refill of milk for my child, I was treated rudely and told that they would get to it. We will not be back because of the service.

I came here for lunch with some old coworkers, expecting something similar to Pasta Mista. The inside was definitely much nicer (and with employees who talk to your face, not to your chest!), and they brought out some good bread and olive oil, but I thought the pizza was a lot better at Pasta Mista (here, it definitely had that reheated taste which I don't really care for, but I bet if you buy a whole pizza it tastes better). It's cute and inexpensive so I'll probably be back at some point, and then I'll try some of the pasta dishes, instead of the pizza, which looked really, really good.

We ate at Il Bassilico on restaurant week but we will definitely be back!. We got the feast of the seven fishes. Actually you get more than seven types of seafood. It was authentic Italian food, not American Italian--however they had pizza and other items that American would want. We started with bread with a basaltic vinaigrette dipping sauce. This was followed by clams and mussels in a mild seafood broth. The shellfish had no grit and tasted fresh. This was followed by fried callamari and octopus salad sauté. the callamari was tender and lightly breaded. The octopus was also tender and had a taste that contrasted with the callamari which was on the same plate. The lobster ravioli with pumpkin was excellent. The pasta was pearly homemade and had texture without being overly chewy. The shrimp pasta was also very pasty. They served 2 or three small items on each plate. The items tended to compliment each other with different textures and flavors. The cuttlefish with peas featured sweet tasting peas with mild and tender small pieces of cuttle fish. The cauliflower and anchovy salad had an intense vinegar taste with unique Italian olives. The one item I did not like was the small piece of fried salt cod. Salt cod is quite salty and is traditional in the fest of seven fishes, but I would have preferred it if they had soaked the cod to make it a little less salty. The final course was stuffolino and a small glass of homemade limoncella. The limoncella was icy and had a strong sour, bitter bite which was refreshing and made a great contrast to the sweet stuffolino. (My husband thought that the waiter had said "lemon jello." Since he does not like jello, I saw him prodding it with his fork several times. I had to explain to him that it was not jello and that you drank it.)

We used to frequent and love this restaurant, but it has just become a frustrating experience. Last night was probably the last straw for us. We arrived around 6:40pm. The place was maybe 60% full. There was one booth left, that we couldn't have b/c it was reserved even though nobody every sat in it. We were seated at a very wobbly table. We ordered wings as an app and they took around 25 mins to receive. Waitress was attentive but not friendly at all. I ordered a salad that comes with Parm Cheese. I asked for goat cheese instead of parm - was told no problem. Salad came out and I took a bite - bleh! It was not goat cheese, but instead I thought it was blue cheese - gross. Flagged down the waitress and told her the issue. She replied with a shocked look and said, "Let me go ask them what they put on it". She came back a few mins later and said, "It's not blue cheese, it's gorgonzola". She had a small cup with her, with a tablespoon amount of goat cheese in it. As if she expected me to eat the salad covered in gorgonzola and I guess if I wanted to, I could mix in the miniscule amount of goat cheese. I explained to her that I could not eat the salad with gorgonzola as it was making me gag and definitely was not what I ordered. She seemed annoyed by this and said, "Ok, I'll have them make you a new one". Around 8 mins later a new salad is brought to me. With NO cheese on it. I guess they figured since I was already brought a tablespoon of goat cheese, that was good enough. I felt as though I was being punished for their mistakes. She didn't apologize about the issue until she handed us our check - like, "Oh crap. I probably should have apologized earlier b/c it might affect my tip, so I'll apologize now". No thanks. We have had issues like this the past 3 or 4 times we have eaten there. I'm not sure what happened to their service and kitchen in the past year, but we're finished with them.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
