I love to come here for their Burritos!!!! I've tried chicken, shrimp, and beef --- and Beef is my favorite. Gosh it's just so full of flavor! As a regular "Chipotle" eater, I must say that since discovering this place, the ONLY reason I still eat at "Chipotle" is because "Tacos Cinco De Mayo" is not close enough at the time to go and get a burrito from there instead. They bring you free chips and salsa when you first sit.... and if you order the burrito it comes with a free fountain drink!!! Also, this place makes it super easy to pay separately, since you go up at the end of your meal to pay at the cash register.

The best Mexican food I've found (so far) in the DC area. Major extra points for the delicious Verde salsa and the homemade tortilla chips which were fresh and hot when I got them. Next time I come back, I will have to get the burritos. The only things I can complain about are the lack of parking and how out of the way this place is but aside from that, it's well worth a short trip outside of DC. You must try the Verde salsa!

Dont be fooled by the local divyness of this place. It is about as legit as it gets in this area. They even have escabeche (very spicy carrots and peppers). Simple but its a Taco shop and the food is great. Make sure to check your salsa for spice it could be rough if you can't handle it.

OMG!!!! this was soooo good. I had the shredded beef tacos with everything on it! I want to go back and get more.

Don't let this place fool you. It is a hidden gem. I have had a share of dishes & I must say the creamed shrimps (camarones encremado) are on point! I am pleased to know they clean their shrimps appropriately!!! The tacos are never a fail. The horchata & fruit salad juice (jugo ensalada de fruta) are on point! I highly recommend you to be the judge yourself.

This is an excellent find. I agree with other reviews that its easy to pass by and not notice it, and there isn't a lot of parking. However, the food is amazing. There is a fresh salsa bar that caters to everyone's taste and the chips are homemade. The tacos are authentic Mexican tacos (I had al pastor, lengua, and barbacoa). The pupusas are very good (I had revueltas). I used to live in El Salvador, so I've had plenty of pupusas here and there and these are some of the best. The service was great and the price was very reasonable. If you like authentic latin food, do yourself a favor and check this place out! I can't wait to go back and try the chilaquiles-not an easy thing to find around here.

Great food at this cute little hole in the wall place. Tacos were delicious, especially the Carne Asada. Lots of fresh salsa options. Yummy homemade Horchata! Friendly service made us feel at home. Will definitely be back!

Let me start off by saying I'm from Chicago so I do have high standards for Mexican food. My boyfriend and I have been looking for a good Mexican joint and have been trying out different places. This joint had some good reviews so I figured, why not? We ordered burritos and my boyfriend ordered one taco de carne asada. We got the taco first and both tried. Let me just say I hadn't realized I was at an Asian restaurant. The steak tasted like meat that has been season Asian style. It wasn't good at all either. As for our burritos, they were made with white rice which isn't authentic at all and the burrito was just all around bad. It tasted like disgusting and it didn't settle well. I feel bad for writing a bad review but I was very disappointed.

I was introduced to this by my best friend and was surprised to find out that I drive pass this place all the time! It's located in a corner but if you know avout, you won't miss it. The price was decent and the food was pretty good. I like that I can see how my food is put together. The flavor is pretty authentic in my opinion. I wouldn't go on a date or sit in for a special occasion because it's not set up for that kind of atmosphere.

We drove by this joint a few times before we stopped in and it was absolutely worth it. Reminded me a lot of the little taco shacks in southern California. Quick, cheap, and massive portions. Enjoy the TV in the dinning area en Español! Come hungry and leave happy.

An excellent discovery. While the restaurant is completely unglamorous, the food is great with choices I haven't seen elsewhere. The salsa bar was fresh and with an assortment of salsas ranging from mild to mouth-melting hot. I enjoyed their ultra hot habanero salsa and their relatively mild cilantro based green salsa. For lunch we had the mole poblano, the beef tongue tacos, the ceviche, and the carne asada. The beef tongue I was suspicious of on account of how common it is to find badly prepared tongue, but it turned out to be flavorful, well seasoned and juicy. The mole was great and the ceviche was flavorful without being too acid. By the end of the meal we found ourselves planning what we'd try when we returned. Minor downsides; the waitress did not speak very good English and seemed a bit confused by us. A little waving and pointing helps sometimes. Also, if they served liquor here it would be the bomb. Beer or margaritas would have been nice. All in all, though, it was an overwhelmingly positive experience, with wonderful and very reasonably priced things coming out of their tiny little unpretentious kitchen. Mexican food the way it's supposed to be.

The carnitas and al pastor tacos are the best I've had in the DC metro! They also have a nice horchata.

Delicious authentic Mexican with huge portions. I ordered the burrito with shrimp. It was HUGE with tons of veggies and every burrito filling you'd want. They did go a little overboard with the rice... I had to scoop most of it out to get to the good stuff. And a few more shrimp would've been nice. Overall, very good food. Loved the chips and fresh salsa bar.

This place is non de script from the outside but don't let that deter you from a great meal. We had the carnitas and carne asada tacos and they were delicious. They also have a really nice salsa bar with a variety of heat levels. Beware the habanero peppers!

  • Delmar H.

Nice little authentic Mexican spot. I had the chicken burrito and a carne asada taco. The chicken burrito was very flavorful. The vegetables were fresh, chicken well seasoned, and the rice had great texture. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a good burrito for about 6 bucks. The carne asada taco was a bit of a letdown because the meat was a little rubbery. They also have a good variety of sauces.

Delicious homemade tacos and tasty, sweet Jamaica. Our group was hungry and thirsty after a long bike ride and we were all happy with our orders. We had tacos ranging from the carnitas to lengua, and all were good. The fresh salsa bar was a bonus. We were a little disappointed to find they don't serve beer, but the horchata and Jamaica hit the spot. One note, at least right now, the take only cash. That said my two tacos, drink, plus chips and salsa was under $10. Well within the range of "bike ride cash" I usually carry. :-)

Terrific! My husband's family is from Texas, and we're originally from Chicago, so we've both had our fair share of very good Mexican and Tex-Mex of all varieties--gourmet, food truck, family joints, hole-in-the-wall gems--and this place is right up there with the best! It's always open, the food is always fresh and very tasty. During my pregnancy I have only ever wanted their super terrific shrimp burritos, but my husband has gotten a series of different dishes--burritos, carne asada, and more. We both love their chips and all the different salsas, too. We don't go in THAT frequently (maybe once a month?), but I swear after we went the first time, they always bring us the salsas we prefer when the chips and salsa come out. They will also sell a big bag of their chips and tub of salsa to take home if you want. Such a great find, and we're so lucky it's just a stone's throw from home.

I'm mad that I forgot to check in yesterday, but oh well... My first time there I had a chicken burrito which put chipotle and any of those other franchised Mexican places to shame. SMH the flavors of the chicken melding with the beans rice and other ingredients it was heaven in a tortilla. Yesterday I had the Threes DE Tacos which a combination platter with three of there different tacos. All were amazing and the rice OMG. I don't know what they put in it but it gives the rice a pink hue but you can put it in or on anything! My favorite part about this place is the salsa bar, I likes my food spicy and the way they have it set up is you can choose 2 to 3 sauces with you order there are about 6 for flavorful to burn ya mouth hot and you can try them before you choose which i think is cool so you know what your getting. All in all its a very good spot to get some authentic Mexican food. The women there are friendly and the location is perfect... meaning you can't miss it!

Small place, good food. We got tacos, enchiladas de mole, and a chorizo burrito. The taco meat was quite salty. However, the enchiladas and burrito were amazing - perfect blend of seasoning, not overdoing the cheese. Definitely will return!

  • Ugo O.

I wish I could write more about it. I don't really consider myself a connoisseur of Mexican food, so I can't discern if the food is good. I ordered a burrito and it was very different from what I always get from Chipotle, so yeah. Try it out yourself.

  • Linda L.

The food was ok. I had the carne asada and felt that the meat was a little tough to chew and hard to cut. Service is slow, if your in a large group. However, the lady seemed overwhelmed with a group of 10 people coming in at once. One of my coworkers never got his food. We kept asking the waitress where is his food, and she never came back to tell us a reason. By the time everyone else was finished with lunch, and we were paying, she tells us the chef left because of an emergency and they were waiting for her to come back to cook his dish. She could have told us of this incident and my coworker could have ordered something else. Instead she makes him wait there with nothing to eat for 2 hours. He ended up picking up McD's on the way back to work.

Wut fools, or in this case, wut up holmes, this yo homeboy, el padre, AKA, Mr. Papi. Anyhow, I drive by this place a few times before. Noticed the building but didnt think too much of it. My homies wanted something to munch on & wanted something different. From the outside, it looked like a small place. Parking lot is limited to a few cars. Nice place inside. I uploaded the menus & other pictures for you to see the physical characteristics on the inside. Anyhow, it's kinda like Baja Fresh, with an area with different sauces and the food is definitely authentic, & that's what I enjoy. There's a slight increase of price in some of their items, but it's been "written" over if u look at the picture of the menu. Their tacos were delicious at $3 a piece, came with chips too. Also had their ceviche at $12. My homeboys got a few of their items too. Their ever fresh juice was $1.50 & Pepsi was $2. Good place to get away & change up the diet, especially if its authentic. It's worth recommending & I'll definitely be repeating. Play on, playa. Holla at yo homeboy.

Full disclosure: I'm a vegetarian, so I haven't tried the meaty items, but the quesadillas, made with thick, homemade corn tortillas (you can opt for flour tortillas if you prefer), are delicious, and the salsas alone make this a destination spot. They are firely, fresh, flavorful and varied. My mother always gets the chicken tacos and raves about them. I highly recommend this unassuming, but truly yummy, taco joint.

I've lived right down the street from this place for the past 5 years and have never stopped in until today. I had 3 tacos and the yuca con chicharron and it was excellent. I tasted a piece of the quesadilla and it was the best quesadilla I've ever tasted. How did I miss this place? Some of the best, most authentic, Mexican food in the DMV.

I go here about once a week because it's really close to my job. The food is flavorful and very fresh and reasonably priced. The staff are nice and really try to accomodate any extra requestes of course for a fee. But the salsa's are so tasty and fresh and seasoned so well. The rice is great especially the pink rice. My two favorite dishes are the Chicken Burrito for $6, and the Flautas de Pollo. The salad with grileld marinated chicken on top is good too but I don't like iceberg lettuce. The chips are fresh and delicious. Honestly $6 for a chicken burrito plus chips and salsa is not bad at all. FYI It's in a small yellow and red building with a very small parking lot. If you're pass through the intersection of 410 and and 450, drive all the way to the bottom of the hill and make a U-turn at the 3rd light. This is the light immediately after the light for the shopping center BEWARE There are SPEEDING CAMERAS ON BOTH SIDES and the limit is 35 MPH. Look out for gray boxes on the right side of the road. Price example: Fajitas Chicken ($10), Beef ($12) Chicken& Beef ($15) and Grande w/ Chick, Beef, and shrimp ($16) comes with salad, chips, beans and rice on side Flautas de Pollo: ($10) comes with salad, chips, beans and rice on side Mole Poblano ($12)comes with salad, chips, beans and rice on side Plantanos Fritos ($2.50) side item Quesadilla ($3.00) Kids menu Especial 5 de Mayo ($11.00) Three tacos with beef, carnitas, and chicken--comes with salad, beans, chips, and rice on side Burritos------ Shrimp and Beef Burritos are ($7) Chicken ($6) Alpastor ($5)

The only thing that was good was the guacamole the chicken tacos was super dry ..the burritos barely had any chicken..... The stale nachos were a messy salty cheese sauce like out of a jar..... This was some of the worst food I have ever had.... After all these great reviews I read I thought that I was going to get great true authentic Mexican.. They must've paid these people

Amazing food. The Queso is to die for! My boyfriend had the carne asada which was very flavorful. I had the flautas de pollo and they were very tasty. Huge portions, we came hungry and could hardly finish.

Really good - surprisingly good. I just ordered (with 4 grub they deliver, which is awesome) the enchiladas verde, a bean and cheese pupusa, and a carnitas taco. The taco was the highlight, definitely - really love the seasoning and it was just stuffed with meat given the price was so cheap. The meat was juicy, tender - good quality. The enchiladas were spicy (yay- why do so many restaurants serve bland enchiladas?) and tangy - the tomatillos really came through such that I believe it was freshly made sauce. Only odd thing was that the chicken wasn't inside them - it was cut up and placed next to them. Just odd - not bad; gave me a chance to evaluate the chicken on its own and again, juicy all white meat (again - at that price???) in bite size cubes. The pupusa was pretty good - a bit on the thick side for my tastes (plus it had fallen apart by the time it got to me). Just ok. There are so many excellent pupusas to be had in the Hyattsville area; my bar has just gotten pretty high at this point. Refried beans - meh. Pretty bland - especially compared to everything else. But who cares about those anyways? They're just filler. :) Now, what is up with the pink rice? I've never had pink rice before - I have no idea what's in it, but it is GOOD. I was totally full by the time I'd finished half the enchiladas and the taco (only could take a bit of the pupusa - you really get a lot of food); but figured I wanted to try one bite. One bite turned into ten. :) I can't place the flavor - whatever it is - it's delicious. Love that they gave me several different salsas and chips even though I didn't ask, not to mention a side salad. (the salsa is really good, too!) Not to mention that I paid $21 for all of this food, and have enough left over for another meal. Only reason it doesn't get five stars, is because I reserve five stars for mexican joints that also have excellent guacamole - and that was the only thing missing here. No guacamole. Otherwise- I'll definitely be ordering food from this place again, highly recommend it.

Definitely worth a visit. Great tacos and other Mexican specialties. They also seem to have Salvadoran items, though we didn't try those this time. The carnitas tacos were the business - two soft corn tortillas filled with plenty of juicy pork with crunchy edges, and served with the requisite accoutrements. We'll definitely be back.

Love love love this place. I went with the basic steak and chicken tacos and the meat was delicious and the additional toppings were fresh and tasty. My bf, whose not a fan of Mexican food (which is pretty much a sin in my book) loves the steak, and fajita peppers. They have a free salsa bar, which gives it brownie points in my book. Since moving out of DC, this has been my go-to spot for taqueria food. I would definitely recommend if your in the area.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
