Went here on a Saturday a little after 6 pm. It was not too crowded yet, but I second what others have said about Mexico...it definitely will get crowded! (As it did by the time we left) The salsa is absolutely amazing, and the wait staff readily refills the chips and the salsa for you. I ordered the Arroz con Pollo. It was flavorful, excellent, and huge. I couldn't finish all of it, but the part that I did eat was fantastic. It's still remarkable after several visits that this place used to be the Surrey Inn. The owners of Mexico should be proud of what they've accomplished and provided to the Calvert County community.

Standard Americanized Mexican food, heavy and bland. Nice atmosphere, good service.

Very good food, it's time for an upgrade to the restaurant. The ambiance is not very good they need to repainted and get some new seating.

For anyone who's looking for authentic Mexican dinner, this is NOT the place. I looked at reviews and most of them were convincing. But as soon as we walked in there was a very stale odor. They do not have horchata or jarritos or any type of "agua". But that wasn't bad. I ordered al pastor tacos and they only had steak. And that was ok ( even though that was on the menu) then I decided to go with the poblano chile tacos. That was not poblano chiles, it was bell peppers. I politely questioned the waiter and he politely insisted they were... LIE. We also ordered carnitas. They were unbelievably chewy and tasteless as was most of the food. The quesadilla barely had any cheese. The beans delicious... That's it. Non of the food was bad but it definitely wasn't close to good either. The service was on a scale from 1-10... About a 3 or 4. I had to wave the waiter down for napkins and extra plates for our appetizers. The price for this place IS NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!!!!!They are very friendly I will say.

This is a perfect replica of every Mexican/Peruvian/Guatemalan restaurant that we have along a stretch of road in Charlotte that we call "Burrito Way." Classic Americanized Mexican food - tacos, burritos, chimichangas, nachos and the like. Don't get me wrong, though. It's good food. Tasty, filling, fast and inexpensive. I liked it. My burrito was nicely stuffed with chicken, rice and beans and arrived with a small bowl of red chile sauce to pour on top. Yum. I'd come here again.

I thought the Mexico restaurant in North Beach was the best of the best but this place here is just as good if not better I never understood why they were so many cars in the parking lot and figured they had some great margarita deals but after coming here with my family I see that the food is just as delicious and come back for more

This place is good, especially since every other Mexican restaurant within miles (and miles) is part of a large chain. Staff is friendly, food is fresh, and the prices are very reasonable! Guacamole made fresh in front of your table.

My wife and I have been here a couple of times and have enjoyed ourselves immensely. We have always liked Mexican food, both from our times in San Diego, Texas and travels around Mexico. Is this the best Mexican food you will ever have? Probably not, but it is damn good. It is not tex-mex nor cal-mex; think more of traveling around Mexico or a hole-in-the-wall in Texas with the abuelita and mijo in the kitchen. Straightforward menu, good food and great service. I had the carnitas last time, and my wife had a steak dish. We also splurged on the table-side guacamole and had a few beers. All told, the total was $51. Did I mention the great service? But more importantly, the place had a certain atmosphere...people were having a good time! A roadhouse with Mexican food!

Too bad, we've been going here since they came to the county. But they've gotten really overpriced for what you get. Definitely not ordering from the bar again. That's the most overpriced part of the place. To put it differently -- this place has lost its value.

One star, and I never made it inside. Why? Because I spent the evening sitting in the "parking lot", waiting on AAA to pull my car out of the mud. What kind of restaurant doesn't have a paved lot and leaves its customers to discover the trap the hard way? Hope they enjoy the tracks and dirty bathroom I left behind without buying a thing.

went here last night with friends who frequent this place quite often. It definitely lived up to their word. The food was very good. The service was very good. I will definitely be going back next time I'm in town. The one thing I really liked was the wait staff made sure you were well taken care without being all up in your face like they are at so many places. You won't go wrong here.

Very good. A girl comes around and asks if you want fresh guacamole and makes it right in front of you. It was delicious! The chips and salsa were really good and all of the food was very authentic.

Best place I've found in the DMV area. This is thee place. Simple test, try their Jalisco especial with corn tortillas. The pomegranate margarita was delicious. The churros dessert split amongst the family was the heat. I'll probably purchase our home based on this restaurants location.

Great service most of the time. Just your regular Mexican food. Pretty quick and pretty tasty but nothing to die for. Borderline 4 star.

This used to be our favorite restaurant in the area, but the last time we went, my husband found a hair in his enchiladas and I found a shard of glass in mine. Fortunately we were not charged for either entree but due to that double whammy of grossness, we are turned off forever. Really disappointing because we used to love the food and service.

Finally! A "real" Mexican restaurant in the Mid Atlantic! ...and we know our Mexican restaurants. We're from Texas. We appreciate a good salsa, a crispy tortilla chip, and a good margarita. A word about the margarita...it glows. But don't worry - that flush you'll have isn't radioactivity, just the effects of the spicy salsa you'll be drinking straight out of the bowl! It's that good! Generally, we like things a bit hotter/spicier than most, but my husband (the "pepper belly") can season his dish to his own taste with the authentic habanero hot sauce that's on the table. For me, everything is perfectly seasoned and nothing needs to be added. My own favorite is the Pollo Fiesta - a thinly cut chicken breast smothered in grilled vegetables and their yummy white queso. Even the refried beans and rice are tasty and perfectly complement the chicken. Hubby likes the crispy tacos (with seasoned ground beef), and usually samples from my plate, too. Even then, there's enough to take home to reheat for lunch the next day. It's a bit of a drive for us to make it for dinner very often, but a real treat when we drive back from BWI after a trip home to Texas. They always seem to be busy, but we haven't had to wait yet, and as busy as they are the servers are always friendly and efficient.

You get sat. Order your food and drinks, and within 15 TOPS , it's hot and on the table. Great service, fast and tasty food. Courteous bartenders as well, they really like to joke around. Its a real , down-home , Friday night restaurant to hit with friends prior to a movie .

Love this place for a few reasons, frozen margaritas, fresh guacamole and nachos are the BEST here. Staff is friendly and fast. The only downside is the salsa is bland, but add some hot sauce and salt and you are in business.

We went to dinner at Mexico's. - chose it for her Mother's day dinner. - got the mixed fajitas. - and - got the #10s. I got the number four to honor the number of times our dinner plans changed before - finally settled on Mexico. Solid place if you like Mexican.

It's definitely not like the song you learned on the playground when you were younger. You will want to go to Mexico, more, more, more. I'm a little spoiled because I lived in California and had to die for Mexican cuisine on a regular basis. However, this is some of the best Mexican food I've had since I've been back in Maryland. PS their margaritas are knock-you-on-your-ass good. Give 'em a try.

  • Rusty H.

Always good food and good service. If you order a dinner menu item, you will get a lot for the dollar. Typically order a lunch menu item which is also good and filling. They have no problem with substituting items like rice and beans on a meal.

  • Travis C.

The food is better than a regular Mexican restaurant but not to die for Mexican food, but more importantly, the prices are great and the service is quick. This is great for a family that wants to get out to lunch or dinner and not go to fast food, or sit and wait for dinner with impatient kids. We've been back several times and will keep returning. The chips and salsa they serve you when you get in rock; the kids roll through them quick...and my kids don't eat anything. If I cared enough about atmosphere I'd only give this place 4 stars because the place is not that much to look at, but I couldn't care less about that, so five stars it is...

All and all Mexico is decent, they have GREAT chips and salsa - amazing salsa, we love it. The service is friendly, fast and efficient and the food is ok. It's not the best Mexican food I've ever had but it is good and is a go to for a quick lunch if we're out and about.

My default choice for local food. If my wife asks me "Where do you want to go for lunch?" Odds are, nine out of ten that I'll say Mexico. During prime time, it packs up nicely, but turnaround is swift, and there is a bar to lounge at if you choose. Slower times are even better... I tend to gravitate there around 11:30/noontime for a bit of lunch, and the food arrives fast, fresh and in copious amounts. Additionally, the chips and salsa seem even tastier early in the day! A broad selection of beers are available, and there are a wide variety of selections for the seafood and veggie set as well as the usual chicken, beef, or beans sort of entrees. The wait staff is friendly, attentive and swift. Family owned, and folks there remember your name. If you're hungry... go! now!

I did a take out and ofcorse Apollo fiesta is my favorite. It has grilled chicken and vegetables with fresh greens and avocado on the side. Absolutely delicious. I usually go down to the one in the Beach but today I decided to come here since it is closer. What a disappointment. My lettuce is bad had that nasty taste to it and grilled peppers and squash look like they were from 2 days ago. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. I gave this a 4 stars because I enjoyed my salsa. Haha.

On their salsa alone I am sold!! It is the type I could eat straight from the bowl until the heartburn took over! Great flavors and just enough heat to make you glisten with sweat. Nice crisp chips that are not overly salty or greasy. Attentive servers and quick service- the main meal was great, but the sides were nothing special. We had the hard chicken tacos, which were exactly what I expected- delicious! Upon leaving I saw their margarita specials and am looking forward to coming back when we can drink to try them out!

Best Tacos el Pastor I've eaten outside of Texas, near perfect! My husband loves their chicken & chorizo burrito. The service is excellent, the restaurant clean and comfortable. I'll be back, I just wish I lived closer.. (from Leesburg, VA; our boat at Solomons).

This place surprised us because we are from Texas - home to the best Tex-Mex food one can get. Very good Mexican food at an even better price! We will be regulars here!

The food is consistently good and the service is fast and attentive. I like the salsa, but my companions rave about it, as well as their great margaritas. The prices are reasonable.

One of my favorite restaurants. The guacamole is divine. The people are kind and food is delivered very quickly. They are okay with you altering the meal if need be, as well.

Visiting my daughter and son in law in MD is always a crabfest, so when Mexico was suggested, of course, we were a bit skeptical. It was almost 8pm on a Friday and we had to wait. Only about 10 minutes, but a surprise to see a crowd at a place we had driven by on our previous years' visits to Huntingtown. The restaurant is pleasantly decorated and large inside. Not at all what you would expect from the outside. We were unfortunate in our seating location. There were a table of about 8 10 year old girls seated behind us. Their Deserate housewives of Calvert County mothers were at another table downing the delicious and generous Margaritas at another and totally oblivious to the shrieking girls, who proceeded to spill an entire cup of soda on the floor as soon as we arrived, thus delaying what turned out to be terrific service. But, I digress. The food was as good as our Mexican town in Detroit! The fajitas were sizzling and wow, the serving was large enough to share. It was the scallop and shrimp. Tons of each and yummy. Also, the arroz con pollo, was a heaping plate of pollo with a delicate cheese sauce. A bit on the bland side, but easily spiced up with the great salsa, (served in a mini carafe) and habanero sauce. Also, the #F (?) is a chicken enchilada and a burrito. This dish is very popular, as the name came from a misprint on their menu when they first opened and has never changed names due to its popularity. A definite return to place for Mexican while in the Bay area. Oh, yeah the best thing is the price. Dinners in the area are a lot higher than we see in Michigan, and here it's a definite value for your buck.

I have ate at all three Mexico Restaurants in Southern Maryland and the only one I would visit again is the one in Waldorf. This and the now closed Lusby location don't/didn't serve fresh looking food and the flavor is just not there. The tortilla chips are too thick and the salsa too watery. I pass the Huntingtown location every day from work and I am never tempted to stop there. I would rather drive a little further to La Tolteca in Prince Frederick and If I could wait longer I will just make it to Monterey in Lusby. I honestly think the only reason they get packed is because is the closest mexican restaurant to most people north of Rt 4.

I've lived in Ann Arundel county for 2 years and last year I was scouting the area and was on my way to California Md, when I saw MEXICO sitting on the side of the road...on my way back I stopped by and I'm hooked...I go just about every fri...sometimes all three days of the weeke nd! I've always felt welcomed there...the food is absolutely great and the portions to die for! I've taken numerous folk there and each one loved it! The margarita's are NOT to played with, they are the best! Wish they could get a deck but the county won't allow it for whatever reason! Anyway...ITS WORTH THE DRIVE!

I have eaten at this restaurant at least twenty times. We love to come here. The food is fresh and delicious. My two favorite entrees are the chicken fajitas and the chile verde. The service here is usually quick and friendly; however, the last two times I've been in the service has been rather indifferent. I hope this doesn't continue.

I think James Taylor said it best..."Ooooohh Mexico!" The face of Calvert County is changing and what was once the old Surrey Inn, where you could get your omlette with or without the waitresse's dangling cigarette ash as garnish, has been replaced by "Mexico"...our first real Mexican restaurants. Like crowds? Good. Becuse like everything else new in Calvert County, Mexico is packed. All. The. Time. But it's not undeserved. The food is good, the service is fast and the plates are full. There are plenty of choices...although my west coast spouse bemoans the lack of fish tacos. Quite honestly, I can order a side of rice, beans and the ever present full basket of chips and be full. Mexico serves the greenest margarita I have ever seen. It's not the pale lime-like green of a freshly squeezed key-west fruit, but something akin to the blood of an alien and antifreeze. I'm sure that, if we smuggled a black light into the restaurant, the margarita would glow like nuclear waste. Did I mention how crowded it is? If you're from the county and you're trying to avoid someone else from the county...don't come here. Chances are you'll see them. Luckily, the waitstaff handles the influx of Calco's hungry masses well, and the wait has never been a long one. Oh yea. Fried IceCream. Very, very good. Not as entertaining as the chartreuse margarita, but worth ordering to share. If you find yourself in Calvert County and have a hankerin' for an inexpensive, solid Mexican meal in a large, family setting and the possibility of seeing one person sitting in a corner holding a blacklight up to her drink...Mexico is a perfect spot.

I recently moved to the Calvert area so I'm up for checking out all the local establishments. I had passed by this restaurant several times and every time it looks soo packed, which is a good sign for me. My husband and I eat a lot of Mexican food so we were happy to see something close to the house. We have been once and I have to say that I'm a fan. They have a weeknight happy Hour from 3-7 offering food and drinks. We ordered the Shrimp / Chicken Combo and it came sizzling hot with all the sides and warm tortillas. The chips were homemade and salsa had a great kick.. Currently I'm into the Queso dips and am addicted to theirs and can't wait to go back. although they look very packed they looked as though they didn't have any waiting.

Since we live in the SE Maryland suburbs, this place is one of our favorites to go to, and honestly some of the best Mexican food we've found here in the area. Its menu has a great selection, the restaurant is clean, and the service is fast. On top of that, you can practice your Spanish. The mole poblano is to die for.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
